20 Best Purple Hair Dye For Brown Hair (2023 Updated)

Ive been using Punky Colour Purple for years, and it was my absolutely favorite color. I’ve never felt more like myself than when I have freshly dyed hair in this shade. I’ve read a lot of reviews of this dye that complain it doesn’t quite turn out a true purple, which isn’t wrong, but it was my go-to product to get the particular intense vibrant pinkish-purple I was looking for.

I’ve tried a lot of other purple and pink dyes (and combos thereof), but Punky Colour Purple was the only one that delivered the sort of electric fuchsia shade I loved so much. I took a break from this product recently to use up some odds and ends of old dye, and when I finally reordered my beloved Purple, I was excited to get back to my perfect shade.

I noticed that the packaging was different, and the dye looked a little darker than I was used to, but I trusted that the product I’d relied on for so long wouldn’t let me down. I applied this dye over somewhat faded pink hair, as I usually do, and left it on for several hours, as I usually do.

But when I rinsed it out, instead of my favorite shade of bright purple-pink, what I have now is a gross burgundy color that’s so dark it’s almost black at the ends. It’s staining purple on my hands, so I know there’s some purple in there somewhere, but what I’ve got on my head is not at all what I’m used to from this product.

Maybe it’s a reaction with the other dye that I used previously, but I’ve applied Punky Colour on top of a lot of other products and it’s never looked like this. My best guess is that this dye was reformulated, but if so, the new product is much worse than the old one.

Not only am I deeply disappointed with how my hair turned out, I’m really heartbroken that I’ve apparently lost my favorite dye. I don’t like the results I got this time around, but they’ll fade soon enough.

Unfortunately, now I have to go on the hunt for another dye that will look half as nice as Punky Color Purple used.

I am a natural brunette, growing out bleach since the pandemic. I like the ‘ashy brown with highlights’ look. I was a big Wella T18 (grey toner) fan. but the 20 volume developer required to make it stick, was turning my roots & ends ORANGE! Ugggh.

So, I tried Alien Grey semi at first, but it was subtle & only affected my lighter ends. this Amplified Dark Star worked much better to tone down the brassy warmth. My natural greys were not affected much, but they and the last of my light bits were a nice lavender grey.

And they blend in with the brown hair which is much cooler in tone now. The roots look much better and orange has been tamed! I will add some more later next week and see if I can’t get my brown back to its original neutral tone in a maintenance routine.

But this really helps, if you have ‘orange problems’ or your goal is ashy-purple-brown. Some things, you should leave to a pro, but it was a great quick fix. If I had really saturated it more, it would probably be more dark and cool toned.

If you have light hair it will def show as a lovely silvery lavender grey. I left one bottle on for maybe an hour with plastic cap, no heat, and rinsed with tepid water, no shampoo. Air dry, and give yourself a little conditioning on the ends, not too oily.

I would warn that generally MP colors do rough hair up a little bit – it may be ‘vegan’ product but it is not necessarily a conditioning product. I used a Hask purple conditioner & will use their purple shampoo later.

I purchased silver stiletto. I already have blonde hair but bleached it awhile back. Grew my roots out and recently rebleached those and then cleansed my hair with shampoo and no conditioner. After fully drying I used the whole bottle on my hair and it was thoroughly saturated, even rubbed it in to make sure.

Covered it as instructed for thirty minutes and NOTHING! Two big light blue blotches near the ends of my hair and nothing else. Vast Majority of my hair didn’t take the color. At minimum usually my hair will pick up color and keep it going for a few washes.

This product is Not even worth a dollar. Don’t buy this.

I had put my hair light-medium blonde hair through three days of hell trying to remove a permanent toner that turned my hair a dull gray. Soap cap, baking soda, dandruff shampoo, dishwashing liquid, color remover—you name it.

By the time I was done, my hair was orange. I tried to correct it by putting a dark blonde color over it, but it was still brassy with plenty of red/orange tones. In despair, I drove to the local Walgreen’s and purchased a box of Garnier Extra Light-Ash Blonde 111 (White Chocolate,) hoping that the ash color would take care of the brass.

I applied it, left it on for 30 minutes and prayed. After rinsing and applying the after-color mask, I was ecstatic to see that my hair was a light beige blonde with slightly darker and lighter tones.

I will most likely have to use a purple shampoo to keep the cooler tone of my hair, but I am totally ok with that. I know that there are a lot of negative reviews on here comparing the older formulation to the new, but this was perfect for me.

I can’t believe how soft and shiny my hair is, because it literally looked and felt like straw before using this hair color. A total winner and a total lifesaver. Best box hair color I’ve ever used.

I tried out the Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Color Crème in a light brown shade. I have naturally dark brown hair with auburn tint in my hair, so I wanted to go a little lighter brown for the summertime.

The kit has everything you need and is super easy to use/apply, which I appreciate as other dyes can be quite difficult to use. It also wasn’t messy at all, which is a huge plus for dying hair in an apartment.

I loved how healthy it made my hair feel after dying, like so smooth and silky. It’s now been three weeks since and my hair is still feeling really healthy. However, the dye color didn’t work on me at all.

You can not even tell I dyed my hair unless I am in the sun, then you can see some highlights that look kind of light !but barely. If anything, it made my hair a little more red tinted than it naturally is, which is kind of strange.

I probably should have used bleach before using this, but the box had a picture of what my hair color would look like after using the dye and it was close enough to the color I wanted. Either this dye isn’t very pigmented or my hair just didn’t take to it at all.

Either way, I have used this dye in the past and had positive results, so it might just be the color I chose this time around.

For years I’m using L’Oreal Superior Preference 9G Light Golden Blond hair color creme. Always excellent, true golden color-tone that lasts me 8 weeks. It was time to color my hair but I couldn’t find this product, so I decided to try Garnier Nutrisse color cream in the shade 93 Honey Butter which described as Light Golden Blond on the box.

Omg! The color turned out ashy (which I hate bc it reminds me of my grey hair) with some weird pink undertone. Whatever grey hair I had – they came out same grey without getting any coverage. The instructions are identical to my favorite L’Oreal color creme, so I couldn’t do anything wrong while using Garnier product.

Appled and waited for 25 minutes, then rinsed it. Eveen remaining true golden color on my hair from last coloring session disappeared and turned into ashy ugly color. I can’t wait now to get rid of it ASAP! I can’t belive this product works for other people.

Waste of time, waist of money, awful results.

I have being dying my hair bright, vibrant red for just over five years now, and Arctic Fox has been part of my color maintenance routine since day one. Vibrant red hair is not easy to maintain and keep from fading quickly, which can very quickly do serious damage to your hair if your only using ammonia-based chemical dyes every time you need to refresh your color.

Arctic Fox doesn’t damage hair at all. In fact, it helps undue the damage caused by permanent dyes because it doesn’t have any harsh chemicals that strip hair. Arctic Fox is actually GOOD for your hair and works just like a conditioner, not like a hair dye.

I add Arctic Fox to my regular conditioner (sulfate free of course) so that every time I wash my hair I’m also keeping my red looking vibrant and even healthier every time. I always wash my hair using the coolest water I can tolerate and after I shampoo I apply my premixed bottle of 3/4 sulfate free conditioner, 1/4 Arctic Fox Wrath + a dollop of Violet Dream and let it sit on my hair secured on top of my with a claw clip while I finish the rest of my shower routine, just like I would do with a nourishing hair mask.

Once my routine is done, I rinse out my hair thuroughly in cool water and towel dry it only so I get the most out of conditioning my hair, and viola! My looks, feels softer and healthier than before I washed it, plus my red still looks like it did the day I first day I dyed it.

It’s a win win. Not only does Artic Fox keep my red looking great, but it leaves my hair healthier every time also. Plus the custom colors you can create by mixing different different Arctic Fox colors together are endless! I was amazed at the color i got by mixing Purple AF + a touch of Aquamarine! It sounds crazy to mix aquamarine and deep purple together, but the color came out a multidimensional dark blue/purple-ish color that changes color depending on how the light hits it.

It’s my new favorite color! It does come out very dark, so I apply it (no conditioner added) to the bottom 1/3 of my hair and lightly pull the color upwards into my red to get a perfect blended fade from bright red to deep blue/purple.

I get compliments on my hair every day and people always ask me how I keep my color looking so bright all the time. Arctic Fox, that’s how! =).

I have been using arctic fox for almost a year now. I have used to it maintain my hair in various shades of blue, purple, pink, and turquoise. I switched over from overtone because it was staining my hair, esp the dark blue.

Arctic fox does not do this, but it also needs to be refreshed a bit more often. If you have bleached hair and want to switch colors somewhat frequently, this is the best I’ve found. My hair stylist can get my base back to blonde for when I want a change, while this was not achievable with other brands.

Blue in particular tends to be really stubborn to get out, but so far my hair stylist has no complaints about Poseidon or Blue Jean Baby. The color holds on WAY better to the bleached part of my hair (I have my stylist fade the bleach out so I don’t get abrupt looking roots, but I still get good longevity on all my hair by using this process: -Wash my hair with clarifying shampoo (do this a couple of days in a row leading up if you use dry shampoo a lot like I do) and DON’T condition -let it dry completely, the dryer the better.

-apply arctic fox color to dry hair -leave it on for 2 HOURS (the bottle will say 30 min – this is not enough time) -rinse the color out with the coldest temp you can tolerate (I have nerve damage so I use lukewarm water) – you should be good for 3-4 weeks as long as you do use your normal shampoo in your hair, especially not with a non-color safe shampoo.

Dry shampoo is your new best friend (I love Batiste’s products for this). Shower with a shower cap on if you take daily showers, and when you don’t, rinse your hair out and just use conditioner. I only use actual shampoo in the shower once a week or so.

This is what causes the most fading. If the idea of not shampooing/washing your hair in the shower frequently appauls you, maintainable fashion shades are not for you.

Wow. Just blown away!! I’ve been coloring my hair for well over 30 yrs, but have been different shades of Purples/Pinks for about 3 yrs now; The only 3 brands I ever use/trust are Arctic Fox, IroIro & Punky.

For those saying it dyes everything but their hair, I doubt that seriously, unless you do it wrong: If going LIGHTER, you MUST bleach it first, or yes, it won’t do much of anything. If you already have a naturally lighter color, it will show up, but if you want the EXACT color on the box/label, you’ve got to start w/basically ABSENCE of color, which is basically bleach blonde, & I always use Manic Panic’s AMPLIFIED Flash Lightening (Different than just Flash Lightening, it pulls a bit more color off, especially good for medium/darker browns, etc).

Kind of a no-brainer, actually. As far as ppl saying it gets everywhere: Use your head & PREPARE properly first, & that won’t happen. Use Vaseline around your face, & have PLENTY of old rags/towels laid out (in case of cast-off).

Remove all carpets from bathroom, etc. DON’T rush, & once it’s in your hair, cover it w/a shower cap or even a grocery bag; It helps it work better & also provides protection for anything you may rub against.

And always keep handy some rubbing alcohol (or ashes work, too) for quick clean up of hands, forehead, etc. Invest in some GOOD color refreshing shampoo in your desired color to keep it vibrant!! Really hope this helps.

All I know is that for a LONG time, I’ve somehow been able to do intricate things w/this brand among others, & in VERY bright, vibrant colors, such as ombre going purple, magenta to dark pink. I just don’t understand all the ppl having such issues.

This hair color is and does exactly what it says- even for purple! I applied it to my 6 year old’s hair because she SOOOO wanted to be like mommy! Mind you, she was in the first grade and they weren’t allowed to do any of that stuff! However, I applied to her light brown, wavy hair in chunked sections and turned out perfect! You could see a beautiful prismatic purple in the sunlight but just her lovely brown indoors.

I showed her and she flipped out and fell in love! Best of all, it was gone within around 8 washes! We were fans for life!.

My hair is going gray, but I did not want to go back to my natural color, I wanted something more me. This teal comes out beautiful. It’s vibrant, my white hairs look like sapphires and it lasts for much longer than the non natural splat version of the same colors.

The smell is similar to melted crayons, and doesn’t sting my nose. The best part is that even as it fades it’s still a lovely green teal color, and other than touching up the roots, needs very little dye to bring it back to a stronger blue teal.

This is a great product. I got a silver weave in my hair because I was tired of coloring my roots every 4 weeks. I decided to embrace my natural sparkle. My stylist did not tell me she was using a temporary silver color so my first washing, I was blonde.

I used this product it helped, but I was still blonde. I went and got a toning done by the same stylist, now I use this combo when I shampoo, and the silver seems to be staying. The shampoo lathers nicely and the comfy leaves my fine, curly, tangly hair soft and manageable.

These products are amazing. My hair stylist added some rich purple. This is helping to keep it vibrant. It is also adding flavor to my natural highlights which has added a lovely extra touch.

I bought this a few months ago after using the pastels and wanting a little more color saturation- the vivid purple did not disappoint! My hair was back to its former glory after only one wash! And the color holds for weeks.

I get so many compliments on my hair. Will be buying again.

this stuff is AMAZING!! So I have been on the grey silver hair trend (well trying to get there at least) lol and the stuff is a lifesaver! I couldn’t get the darn brass out of my hair and it was driving me crazy! tried almost everything! My last option was toning but after all the bleaching I didn’t want to use chemicals.

this saved my life and turned my pale yellow to a beautiful silver after one wash with a little bit in my shampoo! then I shadow tried with it full strength! no brass slightly profile like I wanted (only in the sun and thats because I left it on as little longer to achieve the purple silver look).

I also used it on my son because w bleached his mohawk twice but was still orange like really orange! one freaking wash with a purple shampoo I made with this (a little stronger than the one I made for my hair since his was so orange) and we got a beautiful silver!! I’m 1 wash!! no more expensive purple shampoo for me baby! I got one bottle and have made 3 batches of purple shampoo, shadow ripped my hair fill strength 4 times and still have over half a bottle left! My go to and will always keep it stocked in my house!! totally recommend if having title getting brass out or arrived orange after bleaching and don’t want to bleach again!.

I absolutely love this! It’s the first time I’ve ever tried this brand. I’m actually pretty impressed. First of all the color is beautiful, bright red. It’s easy to use as you don’t need developer. I have damaged, over processed hair from bleaching and dying my hair purple constantly.

It covered my faded purple very nicely and is lasting a long time. Also it wasn’t strong chemically smelling like others and made my hair really soft. I’m definitely buying this again!.

Oh wow this colour is intense and so beautiful! I am growing out my grey, I have waist length hair, there was a stark root line of my natural dark brown to black growing down so I needed something along the lines of grey to blend in the blonde.

This colour worked perfectly! So easy to use and leaves the hair shiny and luxurious colour, blended perfectly. I totally recommend this product and this colour, but there are many beautiful colours to try in the range! This works fine for me! So happy in so glad I found you online.

I was really excited to get purple hair again. Right now it’s a buzzcut and I put this color on top and the results made it look indigo blue. In some lighting it does look purple but this was way darker and way more blue then the photos show.

I bleached it between what looks like the bottom two photos on the image but it looks darker than both of those images and way bluer.

I don’t consider myself a professional or a know it all. I have no degree of education in hairstyle or cosmetics. But I have dyed my hair a ton over the past few years and experimented with formulas and shades and all that.

I read and watched amazing reviews on Manic Panic overall and was very excited to try it. So I saved some money (they’re not college student friendly, these are meant to be high quiality), and bough myself Ultra Violet.

I come home, prep everything, and read the directions. Applied it, left it on, watched tv, waited the recommended time and checked, took a strand out and it looked like it had not taken any color at all, it was still light blond.

So I left it for a couple of hours like some people on YouTube recommended and came back to wash it all out. It was a huge disappointment when the dye just came right off my hair. Now, everybody has different hair types, and different processes done to their hair.

I even contacted the company to ask if I did something wrong or if I was missing something. I never got a reply (no shamming here, just saying) so I tried again with what was ñeft over but this time following their YouTube tutorial instead of the packaging instructions.

Again, nothing. So that’s a no for me. But it looks amazing on other people!.

I have been WAITING to review this hair dye brand. I’m sorry for the rant you’re about to witness. SO. I have naturally blonde hair, and it’s reallllllly blonde (like almost white) at the ends due to sun exposure, etc.

I love doing different things to my hair and experimenting with colors I wanted to try pink. I had previously used another brand but was looking for something more natural only temporary and Manic Panic had great reviews.

I got Cotton Candy Pink alllll the extra stuff, and I used heat to get the brightest results (I was looking for a big change obviously). When I rinsed my hair and dried it I was shook to my CORE because my super light blonde hair was only slightly a very pale pink.

I’m pretty sure if I had rinsed any earlier you would have never known I tried to do anything to it. I contacted Manic Panic nobody ever got back to me. I used a different brand and looked amazing with pink hair I plan on using that same brand when I do my next fun color.

Its possible the Cotton Candy Pink is just a dud color, so I cant say anything about the brand as a whole but. DO NOT GET THE PINK you will be wasting your time money.

I have never been so impressed with a dark hair dye in my life. I bought the juniper green and used it to dye a chunk of my hair. The texture of the dye itself is very thick, and therefore less likely to drip and splatter.

It smells fantastic, almost like something you would find in an apothecary. I had previously made the mistake of using splat and completely ruining the bathtub, but this dye took maybe a minute before the water ran clear, and what few stains were left behind came out effortlessly with a magic eraser.

Despite the lack of sticking or transferring of dye to skin, this looks FANTASTIC. The color is vibrant and absolutely gorgeous (photos of the dye itself on the website are very accurate), and while I’ve only just done it I’m eager to see how long this lasts.

Not only that, but I used this on freshly-bleached hair and the dye itself made it feel softer and look less damaged. Stunning, impressive, I can’t even begin to dream of going back. Absolutely stellar product.

This is probably one of the worst hair dyes I’ve ever used. I mixed it with the Blue Velvet because I wanted a slightly more blue shade. It came out a little dark and more purple, but that would have been fine if it didn’t get absolutely everywhere.

I dyed my hair back in August and the dye still stains everything. If anything touches my hair, it will stain. And whenever I wash my hair, which is only every couple of weeks because I have naturally coily and damaged hair, more dye comes out.

I rinse until the water becomes clear and it will still stain something later. Up until like a week ago, my fingers still turned blue when I scratched my head. And the worst part is that when I straighted the front of my hair, some of the dye must have come off because some strands turned blonde again.

I still have a full container left because I did a 1:1 ratio with the blue velvet, and I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. The only reason I gave two stars was because the color was pretty.

Dude this is the best and most coverage hair dye I’ve ever used! Even for its size, when I had shoulder length hair hardly even used a full container, now I use 1/3 for my short hair. I tried Arctic Fox before I learned about this and the color would wash out first wash! I have used Lunar Tides over a year now and I’m AMAZED at how long the color holds.

I have naturally thick dark brown hair so to use a product I can put right over without bleaching first is a key thing. Plus it softens my hair and smells good. I’ve used black, blue, green, pink, orange from them so far and I love the way my hair looks and feels and the fading of colors doesn’t look ew either.

Ive always used LaRiche ever since I discovered them over 10 years ago so I can wholeheartedly recommend the brand. But each colour has its own pigment problems. Unfortunately yellow dyes dont stick well and Sunflower is no exception.

Luckily I have very short hair so the tub lasts me for months (you dont have to use it all in one go you can save it for up to 3 months after you open it). But I will have to keep topping up the colour every week or so.

But the colour is glorious! And the quality is the usual LaRiche standard so buy with confidence.

I bought the colour Ebony and never has any other hair dye, black or another colour. stainer so much as this did. The floor of my shower is completely blue, and so is my back. So be aware of that. My hair is black, so it did work.

The undertone is not the best and some spots look a bit greenish. I had light pink hair before applying Ebony. However, I have used pinks and oranges from Directions before, and those were good for the price and fade nicely.

But again, there are better options.

I tried a lot of La Riche shades while I was bleaching. They are well pigmented, cheap, have a great selection and would be a good choice if you want more than one colour in your hair. White toner: I didn’t think this really did anything unfortunately and I would have always gone for silver toner Silver toner: was amazinb to lighten to white or beyond to silver etc.

Even though it always looked a bit scary as a bog tub of navy blue. Daffodil: a great bright yellow shade that lasted about 2 weeks before it just looked like brassy blond. This was the colour I always found washed out quickest.

Flamimgo: a lovely pink colour that I usually watered down with conditioner to get a pastel shade which would usually last a month before needing topping up. Carnation pink: this one was a good shade too, though I found it lasted longer than flamingo.

Neon Blue: this was a very dark blue, I didn’t like this as it gave my hair a shiny/cheap wig look unfortunately. It took about 3 months to fade into a nice pastel that i did like- and that was without using any colour protection.

It also wouldn’t fade completely as a semi permanent so I ended up having to grow and cut it out.

Well I definitely didn’t plan to be a red haired lady again. 😆 Wish color would have turned out to be more purple plum than red but I’m not complaining, after all is just hair dye. As you can see from photos, the back is always the hardest for me to perfectly dye.

I have a lot of hair and even though I did trim it recently one box is just never enough for my whole head of thick hair. Now let’s talk about the pros and cons of this product: PROs ✅ – Available in four shades.

– Vegan and cruelty-free, gluten-free formula – Contains Aloe Vera and Soy Protein for soothing, shine, and to soften hair. – No staining during rinsing – Affordable ($12. 99 for one box) CONs ❌ – The color cream and color concentrate both come in pouches too.

Makes it harder to get everything into the small opening of developer bottle without spilling. Very inconvenient. – Strong scent. I tend to dye my hair in the bathroom but this one smelled so strongly that I had to do it in a more open area which made it messier.

– The gloves and processing cap sucked. Gloves broke half way through the process and my nails and between fingers got all colored. Overall, not thrilled about this one. I can get on board with the color although it’s more bright red than purple.

I just didn’t appreciate how messy the whole application process was. For box dyes I prefer the color creams, developers, and color concentrates to all come in bottles. If not possible, than a disposable mixing bowl with brush would make it easier to mix.

If brand can change those items and add better gloves and cap than I can see myself purchasing in the near future.

So to preface, I have VERY dark hair, that has historically been resistant to lifting, even with bleach 🤷‍♀️ So, my hopes weren’t high to begin with. During the pandemic, I decided to shave my head, and have not dyed it since, so the product was applied to “virgin” hair.

It’s pretty close to chin length now in most sections of my head. The box did contain absolutely everything one would need, including, to my surprise, a disposable cap to assist in processing. I enjoyed that touch.

There was lots more product than I needed, but those with long hair may need 2 boxes. I found that it burned a little bit on my scalp, and the smell was very strong. As for the results, the color was even, though it was not quite as “violet” as I’d hoped.

It was more red than I’d hoped, and much more subtle than I anticipated/what was advertised. Overall, not a bad product. It’s been almost 2 weeks since I dyed it, and the fading is minimal and the color is holding up, which is probably my biggest surprise.

I intentionally held off on my review so that I could include this in my opinion. Overall I’d say that for the money, this is not a bad product. Especially if you’re looking to avoid bleach. I had high hopes for this dye!!! my hair is dark brown almost black with grays, so I knew that the color wouldn’t be too bright but after looking at the packaging I was hoping it would look as pictured.

so after applying, 45min setting time and rinsing out and applying conditioner per the hair dye instructions, my hair had Violet vibes. my hair was a dark Violet while my gray hair was lavender. I couldn’t really notice it in the nighttime so I waited till the morning to take some pictures and evaluate the results.

the first day was nice and bright. day 2 my hair looked more burgundy than violet and dye kept washing out which is understandable. By day 7 my hair was a lighter shade of dark brown. Now a month later my hair is light brown.

I don’t like the color! Its almost like I bleached my hair and now my hair just feels dry and damaged and there is no trace of violet or purple at all!! so the reason why I gave this 3 stars is because for the first week hair color actually looked pretty decent and you don’t have to bleach your hair before purple coloring, its all in one which makes it simply but a month later my hair is more brown than violet or purple and my hair is damaged.

don’t get me wrong I know that when you dye your hair your hair gets damaged but now it’s damaged and it’s a color I do not like! I would not buy this product again, and I’m not too sure if I would recommend it maybe if you were able to upkeep the maintenance so that the violet color would stay as purple as it should or could but I don’t know!!.

I had wanted to dye my hair a bright color for years, and never had until now. But I could not be happier with the results! Manic Panic Hot Hot Pink is so vibrant and absolutely gorgeous! Now, I honestly don’t know why it took me so many years to attempt coloring my hair, and I have a feeling that using Manic Panic is going to be a new addiction! I definitely recommend this dye to anyone who wants would love their hair to be a vibrant, bright, and powerful hot pink hue.

I did have best results on the top of my head where I achieved a lighter shade of yellow with bleach before adding the color. The rest of my hair revealed a slightly redder pink tint, where my yellow bleached hair came out slightly darker.

However, it was still a beautiful color all around!.

I love manic panic so much honestly, so i’ve never dyed my hair before and I was able to choose between manic panic or arctic fox and I’m so glad I chose manic panic. First off it was really easy to apply, we had a little bit of trouble at first because the brush didn’t really fit in the jar and we didn’t really want to use the dye bowl so we just kinda used the glove that was included in the bleach kit and slapped it on and it was really creamy and nice.

After I fully saturated the parts I was dying I still had more than half the container left which is amazing but keep in mind I only did the underside of my hair and my bangs. I slept overnight with it which, yes, it is safe to do that but I had to read up on it so I did that and I put the cap on from the bleach kit and a plastic bag and slept.

When I woke up my hair felt so nice honestly and the dye was still wet, probably because my head sweat or something (gross) but I showered and I noticed that it was a little bit hard to get all the dye out and i wasn’t sure whether i should have shampooed or not but I know when I got I still had color in.

My hair is wavy and I wasn’t sure what it would do so I didn’t put in any products and I just left my hair to dry. My hair didn’t even get frizzy while air drying, It kind of just felt very soft and conditioned and it had lots of volume and I was pleasantly surprised.

Its been around 1 and a half months and It is just starting to fade which is crazy to me and its almost turning into a peachy pink almost. So here are some things i’d like to include, I thought it would be a more purpley-pink color but It turned out to be hot pink which I am not even mad about and I kind of love it more, I wash my hair every other day which I was skeptical about and I thought it would make the color fade fast but it really hasn’t faded fast and if you go longer without shampooing it will probably last you even longer.

Overall I will not be using any other dyes other than manic panic.

Splat is the hair dye you buy when you’re 16 years old and really hate your parents. When your goal isn’t to make them clutch their pearls at the vibrant and loud colors streaking through your hair, but to force them to take out a second mortgage to renovate whatever room you happened to use for this experiment in rainbow heck.

I’m no stranger to this brand, which came out in ’91, and had used it occasionally in high school myself. I thought that would prepare me for this, but its been a long time and I obviously forgot why I always steered clear back then.

The pros for Splat Melt are numerous. It comes in a kit with everything you’d need to dye your hair at home. Bleach kit, gloves, both color dyes and easy to understand instructions. It’s an affordable dye kit that won’t break your wallet and doesn’t make you buy everything piecemeal.

It can be done in one day if you’re really in a hurry for results. It is formulated with both Baobab Seed Oil, that moisturizes and provides for a nice glossy shine, and Quinoa Extract, which is packed with vitamins and minerals to help prevent breakage.

It is vegan and free from soy, parabens and sulfates. The color itself is highly pigmented, vibrant and very beautiful when it works. You’ll absolutely standout with this product running through your hair.

Now the cons. oh the cons. I’m just going to get ahead of the curve here and say yes, I slathered myself in Vaseline from shoulders to the tips of my ears, I washed with cold water, and vinegar and used a color protecting conditioner annnd absolutely made sure I dried my hair completely.

Saying all that, IT RUNS SO BAD. I’m on day 4 and I cannot stop the color from bleeding on everything, my neck, my hands, the hair I didn’t dye, all my clothing, my husband made the mistake of rubbing his face on my head and now has a purple beard.

I’m one more shower away from being banned from the bathroom. I’m going to have to wash outside with the hose and the dog, of course then he’ll probably end up purple as well. My hair is constantly greasy feeling and fried at the same time and my scalp is irritated.

All in all I don’t recommend this product, unless of course you’re that 16 year old looking for revenge on your divorced parents. Spend the extra cash, get Manic Panic or Pulp Riot or even Shrine drop it.

Are you like me and looking for a fun change in hair style/look for the summer months?!! If that’s you than look no further because Splat Melts has you covered or in this case ‘colored’ This combination has summer vibes all over it! As with any hair coloring always do a skin irritation test 48 hours before using the product and while using protect tops of ears and hair line with Vaseline to help prevent staining and use caution with clothing you are wearing because of staining.

Best to wear something old when using hair dyes. The color lasts 30 washes and possibly longer depending on your hair type. The kit includes a semi permanent medium brown shade, semi permanent bold shade and a lightening bleach for stay put pigment power and intensity.

With ingredients such as Baobab seed oil and quinoa extracts that help nourish your hair and gives it a strong healthy appearance. It’s also cruelty, gluten, ammonia and parabens free and made here in the USA.

Overall I’m very pleased with the results and have had lots of compliments and conversations about this product. So with that being said it’s definitely a wonderful product that is ‘fun-tastic’ for summer or any time you want a change!.

I am a big fan of Splat products and have used them countless times over the past few years. I rate all of them 5 stars and really wanted to do the same for this one because I think it’s about time they thought of a natural+bright combo, but I couldn’t for 3 reasons.

1. ) My product arrived in the mail with 2/3 of the bottles leaking through the box. It’s even possible that all 3 had leaked, but one is clear so I couldn’t tell. This could be because of the warm weather so it didn’t count towards my review.

2. ) The instructions that were provided were generic and didn’t give clear steps to create the look you wanted. I wasn’t sure if I could or should overlap the colors, time the two colors differently, bleach only the parts that were to be covered by the bright dye, etc.

3. ) The brown that was provided didn’t saturate my hair because I bleached my whole head and I regret doing that, refer to #2. I’m curious to know if others bleached their entire head and how the brown covered the prelightened hair.

On the positive side, like I said, I do really love Splat because they don’t damage my hair, but allow me to express myself through vibrantly colored hair. I may be an older Mama now, but I still feel like a teenage punk rock princess.

Splat is so fun and I love the vast amount of choices. This is a product fans of Splat have been waiting for. Now we can mellow our hair’s hues. Fantastic idea. I would give 5 stars if I would have known not to bleach my whole head first lol.

I’ve dyed my hair at least a dozen times, but it’s been a while. I used Féria’s Coral Pink in March without issue, so I thought blue hair sounded fun and picked up Féria’s M10 Cosmic Azure.

I’m not going to knock off any stars for the dye being more dark blueberry on my hair, rather than the more purple blue on the box, because I had previous dye on my hair. But I will dock it all the points for the terrible formula.

It came with a scent ampoule, but that didn’t help. The dye made my eyes water profusely and my husband even commented on it. The dye dripped everywhere in my shower. I was able to clean the tile with bleach and CLR Mold and Mildew, but some of the grout is still blue.

While it was incredibly drippy, it didn’t penetrate hair well at all. I used almost the entire bottle of dye, rubbing it into my hair for 10-15 minutes, then waited another 10-15 while I cleaned blue hair dye out of the shower, and I still have areas where my hair is still brown/coral pink.

I would repeatedly work the dye into my hair and could see it wasn’t penetrating like you’d expect the dye formula to do. I do NOT recommend this dye and am now thinking about a nice, boring dark brown next, maybe not from Féria’s line.

I love Manic Panic. I’ve been using this color line for well over 20 years. They have the most shades of color and the names are really cool! The application is simple and easy to apply. (Make sure you use gloves so you don’t stain your hands.

) This product works best on light/medium colored blonde hair. You can apply it over darker shades of hair but it is much less noticeable than if it is applied over blonde hair. The best way to use this product is to lighten your hair (bleach) then apply your Manic Panic color.

Leave on for the suggested amount of time. Wash and style. If you wash your hair with cold/cool water and use color safe shampoos and conditioners (this product is not permanent, it washes out) with every wash.

this color will last longer and won’t fade as fast!.

Great colour BUT it ends up everywhere! Pillows, towels, clothing round the neck. I sleep with either hand under my head, when I get up my hands are stained, my neck & ears also stained. Not easy to wash off (including my bath).

Easy to apply used it for several years. I am 72 with spikey Stargazer Plume. Compliments from all ages. Often saying I love your hair colour but I would not dare to do mine. I thank them for the compliment and under my breath think GET A LIFE.

This product is easy to use, reasonably priced and results in beautiful, bright, vibrant coloured hair. Unfortunately, as is the case with most brightly coloured dyes, it needs to be used regularly to maintain richness of colour.

I have had several compliments from strangers since using this particular shade, tropical green! I LOVE this colour!.

For some reason it won’t let me select the color I used. I have this in magenta. When I tested the color I was pleased that it had more of a purple than red tint. It says to leave it in your hair for 20 to 40 minutes but I’ve worked with fantasy colors for decades and usually leave them in for 3 to 4 hours.

My first run through I left it in for 40 minutes and my hair is a level 11 to 12. The color that came out I was too embarrassed to even take a picture of. It was splotchy and a beautiful dark magenta in places and then a pukey pink color everywhere else.

Even if I had you to protein filler it still would not have applied the color correctly. It’s a super thick formula that is hard to spread but it does look beautiful in the balls shiny and bright. I actually ended up using another tube which is insane because my hair is not that long.

It also smells like a wet dog and it’s hard to get that smell out of your hair. Bottom line there was nothing I liked about this formula or the color. I immediately start doing olive oil soaps and Dawn dish soap to pull as much color as I could out.

It fades super bright. I’ve already managed to get it to at least a bright bubblegum pink color. I am however planning to remove it with a bleach bath. I’ve never really been a big fan of ion colors to begin with but I got this for free from a friend so I decided to try it.

I will stick with punky colors as is my favorite.

Alright, Summer Hair Hair, and she was a Beaute! Couldn’t have asked for prettier summer hair. So what did we work with? Well, alot, let’s run down the list: -Iroiro: Seafoam, Aqua, Neon Yellow (not pictured) -Ion: Cyan (mixed with Aqua) -L’OREAL Effasol Color Remover -Select Care 10 Clear Developer First, Iroiro is everything, it’s about 2x better than Artic Fox at a slightly cheaper price.

Ion is so-so, but man, do they have some AMAZING colors, just wish they would fix the crappy formulas. But they’re cheap, so, you get what you pay for. The color remover, TOP TIER the ONLY color remover I will EVER use.

I almost find it better and safer for at home use than bleach. Non-pros have to order it on Amazon, but it’s worth it ladies and gentlemen. The the developer is developer. As for how long this lasted.

Iroiro last the longest out of all of them. I do little to maintain longevity in my hair because I love changing it (as you can see) but so far it’s been 8 weeks(?). so try and guess which picture is the 3 week one (lol, it’s not a hard guess, lol, and little secret, I have done nothing to extend it, literally nothing).

The only good things I have to say about this product is that is smelled good, and seemed like it was a great conditioner. I would say it’s easy to use because it’s all ready to go in the jar, and can apply to dry hair, but the coverage is not even at all.

Plus you should take extra care to prep the area and make sure you don’t get the dye on anything because it stains everything it touches instantly. Everything except my hair, that is. I ended up applying it twice in 24 hours, using almost the entire jar, and there was barely a slight tint of purple; it just looked black (sometimes with a greenish hint for some reason).

My scalp, and skin were the only things that ended up purple (on my body at least. my countertop, sink, and tub also ended up purple). Every time I washed my hair, the water ran purple the entire time and stained my tub all over again.

I ended up using a color remover after a week to remove this product. My hair wasn’t even that dark to start with, and based on the photo examples on the website for medium to dark brown hair, I expected a much better result.

I was very disappointed, and would not recommend this product. It was a total waste of money and time in my experience. Maybe you’d get a better result if you have very light hair, but it’s still not worth all the staining and scrubbing to remove stains in my opinion.

When I went to target to buy the color remover, they had several very similar products for a fraction of the price, so I’d suggest that route first. Maybe overtone should switch to making conditioner because it seemed to do that well.

I’m glad I waited until I’d washed my hair before reviewing. The initial colour over my brown hair was *gorgeous* – it turned out much richer than expected, especially as my roots have grown out to my ears (no joke) during quarantine, leaving lots of plain brown to work with.

Post-wash several days later with sulfate-free shampoo and no additional products, it’s severely diminished – almost non-existent on my roots, and the bulk of the remaining purple is on my old highlights.

I’d hoped that the fade would be much more gradual, even acknowledging that something so bold and pigmented would be bound to fade. This will require a lot of maintenance, but it’s still lovely colouring.

For those with naturally curly or wavy hair, do know that it’s going to take a *long* time to apply if you apply to air-dried hair. Positives: The conditioned texture after is amazingly soft, and it does smell lovely.

The initial rich colour is gorgeous. Negatives: Washes out/fades too quickly. If I could give 3. 5 stars, I would; this may be too cost-prohibitive for how much hair I have and how fast the colour fades.

Took a couple weeks over the holidays to get the products. I purchased both rich black and purple for brown hair. Came in a simple box. I have naturally salt/gray/black hair, wavy. I mixed the two colors, about 60% black, 40% purple before applying to my dry hair.

Result: love it but wish the white/gray areas are darker purple! My white hair did not take the black at all! so I have a very purple color right in front. My black hair did take the purple with bright purple sheen, and in the sunlight it’s “wow!”, but inside, it’s subtle.

How: Watched all the videos (including Youtube) to know to have the following ready: newspaper spread across work surface (so I don’t hurt my countertop), wet paper towel for oops, brushed hair with no tangles, wide-tooth comb for combing the color evenly, disposable gloves to apply color and rinse it out (I save the pair and use in shower too while rinsing the color), and finally, carefully applied vaseline along face boundary with hair so I have minimal skin cleanup to do.

Now that it has been two weeks: my whites are looking pastel purple light lavender, my gray looks lavender, and my black has a purple sheen.
