20 Best Protein For Dogs With Sensitive Stomach (2023 Updated)

We may the transition to PPP brand food recently after hearing some online reviews about the quality of the food. One of our Boston Terrier mixes is very athletic and active and we wanted to make sure we were fuelling her correctly.

Little did we know that the reviews we were reading were from before the formula change in 2021. Over the following months, our dogs got progressively itchier, rubbed their snouts raw, developed ear infections, had their paw pads slough off, broke toenails requiring surgery, and saw severe hair thinning.

We ran all sorts of tests, put them on antibiotics and antifungals and anti-inflammatories, but nothing came back as a solid cause. It was only after the vet suggested it might be allergies (he thought seasonal – but neither had seasonal allergies last year) that we clued in that the new food was the likely culprit.

One internet search later and we have read countless other stories on sites like Reddit indicating the same issues as we have had. We will have to throw out the rest of our large bag, can’t risk exposing a rescue to this product.

I am incredibly disappointed in what was supposed to be a stellar pet food product. While owners may be tempted to try a sample size to see if it sits right with their pets, I would caution those owners and say we didn’t see the worst of effects of the food change until the 3-4 week mark.

My first order with Chewy. com arrived in excellent condition and on time. However, I discovered that the Purina Proplan shredded chicken and rice +7 for large breeds in the 34 lb. size bag was not what I expected.

The kibble was/is much smaller than what my dog is accustomed to. Attempting to transition, I served it to him on more than five consecutive occasions. And, with each of those meals, he consumed only half of his normal amount.

I was throwing away expensive dog food. Therefore, I contacted Chewy. com customer service. The representative and I researched alternative products. It turns out that, in all likelihood, I should have ordered item #67519, instead of the product that is the subject of this review.

In my opinion, what created confusion in selecting products is that Purina changed the dog images on the subject bags. The respective contents share the same word-for-word description, except one product (the one my dog doesn’t like) indicates a +7.

The Purina product consisting of small kibble now comes in a bag featuring a Golden Retriever, the same image that appeared on the bag containing the larger kibble for years. In any event, Chewy. com customer service was extremely courteous, helpful, and exemplary.

The representative did not hesitate to issue me a refund. I highly recommend Chewy. com. Buy with confidence.

I have 4 large breed dogs 2 Rottweiler/St. Bernard 1 husky. 1 AmStaff. They are all over one year old and my bigger two weigh 120+lbs with appetites to match and the smaller two the husky is 60+ lbs and AmStaff Terrier is 50+ lbs.

All four of my dog’s are VERY particular about their food. Before this food they would only eat Purina Salmon and Tuna. They would all require a full bowl per feeding 3 times a day of that food. Once it was discontinued I had to switch and it took several options before finding one they liked that was also healthy for them.

This food is expensive but my dogs only require 2 feedings a day now instead of three and I only have to feed two of them half of the bowl per serving instead of a full bowl. So not only is the expense pretty evened out with what I typically expect to pay for healthy dog food but my dogs get full and have plenty of energy.

My one larger dog also has bad stomach issues and this food sits right with him. I have switched to solely purchasing this Purina Pro Plan food with my dogs good health and vet approval in the forefront of my mind.

Purina Sensitive Skin & Stomach for seniors is fantastic! I have 2 black labs, 1 senior (15 years) and 1 puppy (1 year, lab mix) and have switched them both to the sensitive formula for their respective ages.

My puppy was first, when he started regurgitating his food periodically then progressed to full blown vomiting and diarrhea but otherwise was healthy and a check by the vet yielded no obvious issue. After research pointed to a possible food intolerance, I read extensively and decided the Purina sensitive formula (for puppies) fit the bill.

It did indeed solve all of the GI issues my pup was having!! Fast forward 6 months and my senior dog was having serious issues with bowel movements being sparse, yellow and having to strain along with one episode of vomiting with partially digested food.

Again, otherwise happy and still had an appetite but it then turned to diarrhea. So, onto homemade chicken and rice he went with psyllium to see if that calmed his issues. It did, so I determined he was probably having a hard time processing his food.

Having had so much luck with my puppy and the sensitive stomach formula and the same exact set of symptoms, I ordered the senior version for my old man. Again, IT WORKED!!!! I could not have been happier when his GI issues resolved, his bowel movements are better than they have been in years and he’s a happy boy again!!! I will say I am still adding psyllium and organic pumpkin powder to his food, but not because the kibble is falling short, but because he needs a little more help staying regular and needs extra ease with going, because he has severe hip dysplasia.

Long story long, I am very thankful that I found Purina Pro plan for both my puppy and my senior. Footnote: I also sing high praises for Purina’s probiotic powder that I throw in the mix for both of them periodically or when they seem to have minor GI disturbances.

My rescued senior Boxer/APBT has a multitude of health issues, allergies (food & environmental), sensitive stomach, missing teeth and so on. We have tried a number of foods with no success. That is until our Vet recommended we try this.

I was excited that it was a Senior formula AND grain inclusive but most importantly it was poultry FREE! Those combinations are hard to find except in the “boutique brands” that I don’t necessarily trust, nor can afford.

I love that he is eager to eat and thoroughly enjoys his meals now. The kibble is easy for him to chew and the smell is not overwhelming as other fish based foods are. At this time, he has had no negative reactions to this product and we are thrilled.

His shedding seems to have gotten better, his coat sheen is back, he isn’t feeling greasy anymore and he doesn’t smell like fish. My biggest concern is that this specific formula being discontinued. I hope it is not; even though there is an Adult formula, I prefer the analysis on the Senior formula.

Fingers crossed this product is always available. I have reached out to Purina Pro Plan regarding my concerns and am awaiting a reply.

My 12 year old dog has been having a lot of stomach issues and has recently started turning up his nose to most foods (even eggs/chicken/plain rice). We usually fed him BB “Life Protection” and switched to “Blissful Belly” which he ate a dry/canned mixture probably twice and then wouldn’t touch the mixture again he would only eat the canned.

So I bit the bullet and decided to test PPP. Was a little nervous to try what with him being so picky since it was so expensive. but we need him to eat. It seems like he LOVES it. I assumed last night since it was an abrupt change he would have the gurgle belly and horrible gas (I know you are supposed to transition but when your dog’s poop is soupy to begin with its pretty much YOLO at that point).

But none of that happened. Then this morning he ENTHUSIASTICALLY enjoyed his breakfast. He’s never eaten a fish based food (always chicken/turkey) so maybe the change is just what he needed. I think we have FINALLY found our food.

Last month was horrible. and stressful. and to be able to find a food that he is this excited about is such a relief!.

I have 4 rescue wolf dogs and 2 rescue labs. Lots of appetites! I balance out their diet with this food, they eat quite a bit of raw meat, veggies and fruits- but still need the vitamins and minerals for a healthy diet.

To them this bag has treats inside. After picking out all the chicken chunks they think I specially gave with dry dog food, they eat the rest of the remaining kibble. I am cautious of treats for dogs because of where they are manufactured and ingredients, they get raw cow bones, deer bones , chicken feet and occasionally a treat bone maybe once every 6 Mos.

My pack is healthy , happy and full of energy along with beautiful double coats of fur that float by me. Ordering was easy, cheaper than @ a regular store. The only problem that happened was their 6 mo treat bones didn’t come with their order after I told them they got treats on the way.

I contacted Chewy and they were shipped out that day. I’m trying the regular once a month delivery and will see how much it stays within my budget, rescuing dogs, I never know when another forgotten soul will need a place to feel safe and join my pack until they find their forever home.

I have fed this exact dog food except for it was chicken and rice for the last 5 years or so my 6-year-old dog was having some gut issues and when I went to get her up today on her shots for boarding I brought up some of the issues and he said you need to put her on Purina One I told him she already is on Purina One chicken and rice.

He proceeded to tell me to switch her to the lamb and rice formula. So I did this is the third bag (not of this size) it took her quite a few weeks actually quite a few months to fully get back to eating normal in fact she’s not there yet at first she would just nibble and then she started eating a little more and then got to where she was eating about half of her normal feast.

I know this is a long review my point is I can tell that it’s treating her better by the look of her poop and she doesn’t seem to do her stretching issues when she’s eating. Her shedding has got better and I will continue to feed it to her and I hope I continue to see improvements.

Please keep this product in stock that is one of the hard issues with this product. It’s very hard to find! I would definitely recommend this product to my friends and family!.

We added a 5th member to our pack for a Christmas present 🙂 He’s a beautiful german shepherd boy. The breeder had him on a $95 a bag puppy food. Yeah, just no. We bought another brand of puppy food and the purina canned food, which he ate.

We noticed after we bought the 2nd bag that he seemed disinterested in the food. Our pet store let us exchange the unopened bag of the previous food for this. We bought the biggest bag they had, not knowing if he would even like it.

He loves it and is devouring every meal with a little canned as a topper. We also give this to our 2 year old Golden who seems to love it, which is a bonus because he has been a picky eater from the day we brought him home.

They both love it. With 5 dogs, feeding time can be hectic, but it’s a team effort and every one of them is eating a Purina brand of dog food!! These two boys on the Large Breed Puppy and my three small ones are on the Purina Beneful with the matching wet food as a topper.

Geez it’s nice not having 4 or 5 different foods. Wonderful food!.

My dog is fed a raw diet. But with the increase in price of raw meat I decided to feed 25% kibble. I struggled with which brand because her hair falls out with nearly all kibble. I bought a 16lb bag to try out.

It’s been a few weeks now and her coat is beautiful. And when I feed kibble she gets tummy troubles. None absolutely no issues at all. And she loves the taste. She actually picks around her raw food to eat the kibbles first.

I did not hesitate to put this on autoship. Look how shiny!.

I used this dog food for 5 years. Suddenly my dogs stools that used to be solid were runny. I looked at the kibble size of my old bag versus my new and complete difference in the size, shape and smell of the old kibble versus this new, small, hard dark kibble.

The older was twice the size and actually much lighter in color. I contacted the company directly 2 times via email, zero response, then I actually had a sales person on line, asked her about it, zero response again.

If I am spending $75 on a bag and order 2-3 large bags a month I expect the common courtesy of an answer. Then I started having my females reabsorping litters so I am not sure what they have done but considering I have recommended this brand to every one of my friends and new puppy owners, I will no longer be doing that.

If your dog presents with digestive issues and you are considering a non-prescription food I do suggest giving Forza10 a try. My testimony is no indication as to whether your dogs will take to this food, or any food for that matter, as all dogs are not the same.

I do however, believe that the Forza brand is worth investigating. We also use the Forza Intestinal dry food and my dogs do eat it with relish.

My 15 yrs old corgi’s digestive system has always been decent, but in her senior days the consistency was getting on a softer side (not quite diarrhea-soft). She was on Nulo Freestyle Senior, then tried Honest Kitchen Grain Free Beef, to Honest Kitchen Small Breed, thinking smaller kibbles might be better–all given with enzyme supplement.

They are all quality food but didn’t worsen nor improve the consistency. So upon researching I came across this Blissful Belly and tried with a small bag first, slowly switching over. And hooray, I felt there was an improvement.

Now fully on Blissful Belly, her business is definitely firmer, healthier. I didn’t detect any increase on gas either. Other little things I did to help her tummy : Give a little less amount for her lower activity level.

Pour very small amount of warm water to the food and wait for a few minutes before serving. Use low-fat treat (I use freeze dried beef/lamb liver, broken up in small bits) I appreciate Petco for the great discount for the repeat delivery!.

I have been ordering Purina ProPlan FOCUS Classic Adult Sensitive Skin and Stomach Salmon&Rice Entree as it is the only food that does not cause skin rash and stomach upset in my mini labradoodle. I spoke to the folks at 1-800-PROPLAN who report there was an “Ingredient Realignment”.

It took quite a bit of research with the retailer and Purina, speaking with several layers of customer service, to learn that the order of the ingredients is changed from prior water, salmon, fish to new formula change of water, fish, salmon.

It is reportedly nutritionally the same, but the exact percentages of those ingredients is “proprietary information”. Nutrition is important of course, but with allergy issues, the specific ingredient amounts is also important.

In my opinion if the changes were favorable, the information would be available and even advertised as “new and improved” instead slipping in the change almost undetected. Because this is a special diet, it is not just a matter of pet like/dislike, but of a valid health concern.

My experience with Purina over this matter has not only disappointed me, but placed doubt in my trust in the standard of Purina products.

As a general rule, I find that Purina brand tends to be on the lower end of medium quality pet food. Most purina products I have purchased for my fur babies haven’t been the ideal formulations of ingredients that I would like to feed them (e.

g. , no corn, wheat, or soy, with a real meat – not by-product – preferably poultry or fish, as the first ingredient). That being said, for the most part, Purina foods aren’t HORRIBLE like some other brands out there that fail ALL of the aforementioned pet food guidelines.

That, and the fact that Purina tends to be MUCH more affordable than the high quality pet foods, comparatively. Thus, I tend to purchase Purina brands quite often, especially when funds are tight. What lead me to this particular variety of Purina, the ProPlan Focus for sensitive skin stomach, was actually the end result of extensive research.

One of my pets, Romeo, has congestive heart failure, amung other heart related issues, and thus is on a restricted sodium diet. Prescription pet food diets are extremely expensive, and countless hours of searching lead me to this variety, at only.

05% sodium content (which is MUCH lower than most brands coming in at well over. 2% sodium content). Low sodium + low price = too good to be true, or so I thought. Before purchasing, I evaluated the ingredients, and they seemed to be pretty good.

While water was the first ingredient, being a wet food, I was okay with that. With salmon, rice, and fish coming in as the next three ingredients, it kind of passed my next few tests. Loved that salmon was the main protein source.

Rice, while I wasn’t thrilled with a grain being the main protein source, still much better than say, corn, so again, I was okay with that. Fish coming in as the next ingredient I am iffy on. “Fish” seems more ambiguous than I would like, but its still a portion source and not a by-product, so again, okay with it.

The only thing I didn’t like, was the lack of vitamins and supplements, but I decided to purchase those separately as supplements, and give those to Romeo separately. In summation of this research, I purchased this 12 can pack.

The case arrived, and when I opened the first can, my first impression was “wow this is some stinky food!” But I am a human, and what the heck to I know about what dogs find appetizing. Well, Romeo must have agreed, because he did not like it, at all.

This is coming from a dog who LOVES food, especially wet food. He typically licks his bowl for several minutes after he finishes eat ANY brand I have given him in the past (he is 15 years old by the way!) He has been protesting this food for several days, eating a few bites and then begging for food next to the full bowl of this Purina Pro Plan, and stealing food from the other pets in the house whenever he can get away with it.

In addition to not liking this food at all, I find it ironic that this is labeled for sensitive skin and stomach, because he’s been butt scooting and has even thrown-up a few times since I began feeding this to him.

Granted, this could be to the stolen other foods he’s been sneaking, but I usually catch him and stop him promptly. He’s also been shaking a lot lately, and it is late may in Nevada, so its definitely not because of the weather.

Again, I can’t say for sure that the shaking is due to this food, but it did start right around the time of the switch. Its been several days, and I am read to give in and buy him another brand. Take away here, it doesn’t matter what ingredients are in the food, or how affordable it is, if the pet just won’t eat it.

My dog hated this food and he would eat anything! He went through a bout of stomach issues while also having some dental problems so I wanted to get him soft, wet food that would be easy on his tummy.

He literally would not eat this at all. He would run to the bowl at meal time so I know he was hungry! I put this down and he smelled it and literally walked away. This happened for 3 days and so I gave up and tossed it.

It’s not gonna help his stomach if he won’t even eat it. Would not recommend this dog food.

I have two cats who were on P. Naturals for almost five years, both were doing well on it until the brand made a change to their formula causing one of my babies to throw up all of the contents of his stomach.

After experimenting and testing to ensure thay he wasn’t gorging the food it was evident that it was a reaction to the formula change. I compared the ingredients and I’d noticed several changes to it.

The most prominent ingredient was Canola Oil, since he’s shown sensitivities to this oil I chose P. Naturals as it didn’t have it for years. After sniffing their food it also lacked lush brown color that it once had, showing more yellow as well as smelling incredibly stale.

I just fed the rest to strays wandering my home while doing researching on different foods for them. I finally settled on this one and bought a small bag for them to share. My sweetheart absolutely adored it, devoured it right away.

I’ve never seem him so excited to eat before. The first thing thay I noticed within a week was how silky soft his fur was. It had rough patches, but a majority of it was silky soft. He kept this brand down as well as stayed fuller longer.

He’s always been a great boy for me and would slowly eat his food prior to this, but it seems like he handles just as well with small portions. This food was a great decision to me and lasts about two weeks for two cats.

I feed my boys once a day, at least two and a half cups in total for them in a slow feeder. My other boy gorges food as if he’s never eaten in his life. I would absolutely recommend this food to anyone who’s cat has a sensitivity to certain foods or needs to feel full longer.

This really was a life changer.

I was pretty impressed with this food. For background, I have a Chorkie that is allergic to everything edible AND on top of that she trusts to have high-end (read, finicky) taste. Because of this she is on a homemade diet, but she does have kibble as a midnight snack.

Acana has been our go-to, but since they’ve changed their recipe to include sweet potato in the limited ingredient line, we’re now down to one flavor with them and I wanted to introduce a 2nd protein into the kibble rotation.

When I brought the bag in the house, her nose was all over it, which is usually a good indication. She quickly finished her servings and looked for more. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize this was a high protein food, so I had to return it.

We’re going to try the limited ingredient line and see if that gets the same results.

I thought LONG and hard on what I wanted to feed my puppy when I first got him. I actually wanted to feed raw but he had no interest in the Primal chicken i bought him. I decided on Instinct rawboost because of the great ingredients and high protein and calorie count.

He loves it now and actually won’t eat instinct’s other lines that aren’t raw coated. I bought him a bag of Be Natural once and we had to add the Instinct freeze dried toppers crumbled on top to get him to eat it.

He got used to the good, tasty stuff! We switch through different flavors of the rawboost now and he’s never had a problem with it. His poops are healthy and he always eats as long as we add some water to the food.

Definitely love this brand!.

We have been taking in older rescue dogs looking for a safe and happy permanent home to live out their lives with people who will really care about them. We found that older dogs had a harder time with their digestive systems and since most of the ones we adopted had little or no history we would try different foods which didn’t always go well for them, or the person who had to clean up what wasn’t digested well.

We read an article on Go dog food and after a little investigating found that they had a “Sensitivities” product with a salmon protein base. We offered it to them, they ate it all and seemed to like it.

Our chubbier little girl lost some weight but not too much, was more energetic and kept at a good weight. We fed them less and noticed their droppings weren’t as “stinky and/or gross” as they had been and now we didn’t have to have 3 different brands of food on hand.

Sorry to rattle on but we have been more than impressed up to this point. Thanks Petcurean for helping us take better care of our dogs and for helping them feel and look better.

This food has been great for my senior pit bull! I can’t say if it has helped her allergies, because I am doing several others things to help manage her skin problems (regular medicated baths, supplements, etc.

). But it has definitely made a difference in her energy level. I noticed she had started to slow down and was reluctant to go up and down stairs, and switching to this food has changed that. She also plays more with the other dogs without getting sore after.

And she’s had no digestive issues on this food whatsoever. I do, however, wish they had a grain-inclusive senior formula or at least something without potatoes and peas. It’s good for dogs to have variety, so I like to regularly rotate between foods to give my dogs a break from some ingredients and introduce new ones.

(And potatoes and/or peas seem to be in almost every grain-free food. ).

My 10 year old German Shepherd had a terrible skin condition. Her hair was falling out, she was almost bald in places, itching all the time, scratching all the time and covered with scabs and raw skin.

We took her to our vet, who recommended she go to a dermatologist vet. $1000 and many tests later, the specialist said that it her sebaceous glands were gone, and there was nothing we could do. Went to another vet, who recommended vitamin A and special shampoo.

Did I mention that she smelled bad on top of everything else? We tried everything for more than 6 months – Dietary changes, baths, topical treatments, nothing was helping. Finally, a friend mentioned that her vet had recommended Purina Pro Plan for sensitive skin & stomach.

Greta has been on it for almost a month now, and her fur is growing back in! Her coat feels soft and healthy, the scabs are disappearing, and I not longer have a sad looking smelly dog. Her energy has picked back up, and she’s starting to bring me her ball to play again.

I have to chalk up this change to her diet. I am thrilled with the product, and the relief it has given to my good old dog. It’s made a believer out of me.

I wanted to try this grain free dog food from science diet after my dog was tired of their no corn, wheat, or soy recipe. The ingredients and appearance of the food seem fine, but she doesn’t care for it at all! I have to mix wet food in it, or otherwise, she waits until she is starving to eat it.

I wish the grain free recipe came in small bags to try because now I have a 24lb. bag to doctor up just to get rid of it. I won’t be buying this again.

My dogs have grass allergies. We had them on grain free in another brand, but they started having digestion issues. Our vet suggested we try this. Our dogs love the flavor. They try to burrow in it when we open a new bag.

Their coats are now glossy, scratching and biting has stopped, and they are no longer having upset stomachs. Hooray!.

My rottie is 19 months old- a couple of months ago, he lost 18 pounds. He was vomiting, diarrhea. He was tested for worms, found a parasite, he was treated, but continued not keeping any thing in. I’m writing a detailed long review in hopes that it helps another dog owner. I’ll start out with quick notes on the info I personally look for in reviews. ~Am I a professional?: No- These are just my experiences over the last 2+ yrs.

~Did this food fix their poop issues: YES! ~Did this food fix constant scratching: YES! ~What foods DIDN’T work for us: Grain free, limited ingredient, other foods with chicken or beef as the protein.

~How long before I saw an improvement on new food: 2 weeks ~Most helpful piece of info I came across: I read on a forum that if nothing is working switching foods, to try changing the protein completely.

(example: If you have been doing chicken/beef, try salmon or duck instead. ) ~Dog info & their previous issues: Goldendoodle- (50lb) 3. 5 yr old healthy neutered male. Free fed. Could hold it/no accidents, but had very soft poop/diarrhea multiple times a day.

Bad separation anxiety. Issue since day 1. Cockapoo- (13lb) 2 yr old healthy spayed female: Free fed. Didn’t strain, but poop was hard despite drinking tons of water. She would scratch her ears & bite at her paws and stomach, but nothing major.

Issue since day 1. ~Here’s more detailed info below for those that want it~ Goldendoodle: I got him at 8 months old neglected from a breeder. He had horrible separation anxiety, & was terrified of everything.

He never had accidents in the house, but if I took him outside 8x a day, he’d poop at least a squirt every single time. Sometimes it was diarrhea, other times, it was just very soft. With his anxiety, & being 50lbs, going to the vet was a challenge.

I chose not to put him through any additional testing for this reason. This is why we never tried prescription food. We tried several other otc foods, but when nothing worked, the vet said it was possible it was due to how nervous of a dog he was.

Once his anxiety was controlled with me being home all the time, and his poop still didn’t change, I went on the hunt again to see if I could find a food that worked better for him. On a forum, I came across someone talking about trying to switch up the dogs protein completely if nothing else worked in the past.

We had done chicken and beef in the past, but never salmon. This food even smells like fish. I started mixing it in with their current food over a 1 week timeframe. The didn’t like it at first, but now they are fine with it.

After 2 weeks, his poop was starting to get a little more formed. After 3 weeks, even though I still let him out 7-8x a day, he’s only pooping 3x a day and it’s completely formed!! Cockapoo: I got her from a breeder as puppy as a companion for my anxiety-ridden Goldendoodle.

She would scratch here and there, and bite at her paws and stomach, but nothing major. Her poop was always hard, but I figured it was normal since she acted fine and didn’t have diarrhea. After about 2.

5 weeks on the new food, I started noticing that she’s not scratching at all. She’ll still bite at her paws and stomach, but no where close to like she used to. Her poop isn’t as hard anymore. It is the normal consistency you’d expect dog poop to be.

I couldn’t say enough good things about this dog food! If you’re struggling with any of the same issues that my dogs did, it may be worth a try!!.

We love this product so very much! One of our husky mutts has a severely sensitive stomache. When we rescued him he had constant diarreha, stomache gurgling, gagging, soft stools etc. It was frustrating.

The vet put him on pro plan and it didn’t make a difference. Then we came across Wholesomes sensitive stomache and had to give it a try. Glad we did. It has made such a huge difference. No more belly issues.

So I compared the ingredients to see how different this is to other companies to carry sensitive stomache products. Wholesomes is one of the only ones who doesn’t use peas, lentils, flax, etc in their sensitive stomache products.

prefacing this with I suspect my dog has allergies and we haven’t figured it them out yet- I researched a lot and was really hopeful that this would be a good fit for my dog (55lb catahoula/boxer mix that struggles with skin rashes and gland issues).

We switched from another chicken based food that while he did ok with that one he still had those issues so a sensitive skin and stomach recipe sounded like a great fit. He would eat it but didn’t really seem to care for it, would let it sit for hours (he is picky so this isn’t necessarily this food having an issue), but the reason why I’m switching him again to something else is his poops got super soft while on this food further aggerating his gland issues.

I’ll say the food looks good/uniform/fresh and a good value for the amount you’re getting. Just didn’t work for us.

I sound like a salesperson for 4Health when I talk to other dog owners. We rotate it with Purina Pro Plan Focus for sensitive stomachs. We’ve been feeding our little guys the Pro Plan for about two years.

We’ve tried other top end brands in regards to rotating, but the dogs didn’t seem to care for any of them. But once we feed the 4Health, they took a liking to it immediately. We have two rescues. One was 3 or four years old when he joined our household.

He was emaciated when he was rescued, coming away from that with a very sensitive digestive system. The other guy joined us at twelve weeks and has a cast iron stomach. The Pro Plan had helped the digestive issues to a great degree, but the 4Health put the finishing touches, on what appears to be a very happy digestive system.

It is priced comparably to the other foods of this quality. I highly recommend giving this a try with your animals. Whether they have digestive problems or not. There are a few choices for other conditions dogs experience as well.

Our boxer has had stomach issues for over almost 2 years. He would throw up his meals with a few hours, atleast 5-6 times a month, didn’t haopen super consistently. but obviously not right either. All vets tests show nothing physically wrong.

Have went through many brands of foods, including all the highest priced ones. Seen this sensitive stomach while in the store & thought, well can’t be any worse than we are already dealing with. After spending hundreds of dollars on vet bills and special veterinary specific dog food, for my less than 1 year old American Bulldog pup with monthly bouts of diarrhea, I switched him to this sensitive stomach blend.

ALL his problems stopped almost immediately. I recommended it to my neighbor who’s dog has pancreatic issues and is on enzymes for that, and her stool changed over night. This food doesn’t take the place of medical intervention, but it changed both of our dogs quality of life for the better.

This food is a miracle.

Long story short I decided to purchase this food as my miniature schnauzer gave up on dry food + water, no longer pooping it could not go on. This specific food helped her appetite tremendously!! Her water intake has come to normal and most importantly no longer constipated!! Who knew dog poops could be so alarming.

Saved me $$$ on a vet visits. I’ve always avoided standard brand store bought dog foods due to horrible stories I’ve read. Therefore I always provided quality dog food from local shops. My mini schnauzer gave up on the dry food stopped eating and drinking water suddenly, and was very constipated wouldn’t poop for days.

I did not want pay $1k vet visit. I was lucky to get in contact with the chair person for AMSC (American Miniature Schnauzer Club) and was recommend this specific food for my mini schnauzer. I was hesitant as it’s big name brand and may be endorsed by them but I was desperate as my schnauzers stubbornness to eat and drink water couldn’t continue any longer I decided to purchase.

I’m glad I put my faith in the advise it maybe saved my fur babies life.

We have 2 GSB. We have always used a very high quality dog food. They were on FROMM then we changed as our one girl has horrid skin allergies, lost her hair, stunk, red, her ears were a mess etc. Numerous vet appts, allergy shots, script shampoos, you name it we tried it.

We even changed vets. We tried everything under the sun and it was costly for way over a year. Now we are down to this PPP food and Apoquil once a day and its been a great solution and no more issues.

We noticed first the girls had the runs a long time, then my vets suggested to from a local pet store that stock their shelved daily and all of a sudden it went away. So we are buying it local, but the only thing bad is the large breed 35lb bag is so hard to find, let alone the large breed kind and our local pet store is always sold out.

Our dogs do smell like fish, however, having their anal glands expressed by a groomer or our vet has helped that tremendously. I just wish more of our local pet stores carried this kind for large breed.

GSB need the large breed.

I‘ve spent a lot of time trying different foods for a German Shepherd with a very sensitive stomach. He lives on acreage and sticks his nose and everything and so I can’t blame it all on the food, but he needs food to kind of balance all of that out.

I thought some of the boutique brands would be the best. My last GSD, who lived 15 years, ate Orijin Six Fish, which is excellent but too much pea protein for me and this boy didn’t take to it. For some reason, he LOVES this pro plan food.

And I’m very happy with the ingredients. I’ve been building up his digestive system a bit by cycling wet foods with him mixed with his pro plan (controversial yes but it works sometimes) and his stomach issues are few and far between now- mostly if I throw in some real high fat salmon I’ll see that reaction.

This dry food is well worth trying. It’s his go to base food now and we are both very happy.

I started getting Blackwood 3000 and 5000 because it was rated highly by an independent dog food review company online, the quality was high, the price was great at just under $1/lb, and my dogs were having some stomach + allergy problems so I thought the switch would be good for them.

They liked both the 3000 lamb+rice and the 5000 sensitive stomach catfish+barley. Since they liked it and it was not bad for the skin or tummy I kept buying one or the other on autoship for about 1. 5 years.

3 large bags went went from being about $80 to being over $180 in that time frame. As such we are trying other brands. I can’t keep paying for those kinds of price hikes. I know COVID has made supply issues and caused price increases, but it’s over double the price it was less than 2 years ago for the same foods.

It’s nearly the price of Royal Canin now so if I decide to stay with a more expensive food I might as well pay just a couple of dollars more (or the same when on sale) for a better one and get it.

Since our dog turned 1 (she’s 3 now), she has had horrible reactions to all the dog food we’ve given her. I started keeping track of how bad of a reaction she had with each dog food and started eliminating certain foods that kept popping up.

Before I resorted to doing a dog food allergy test, I narrowed it down to peas and carbohydrates, so I looked for pea free and low carb foods (she always smelled yeasty and her skin reacted in the form of seborrheac dermatitis despite us giving her probiotics).

The dog food allergy test confirmed our suspicions so I scoured the entirety of chewy for dog foods that did not contain anything her test flagged her with. This is the first bag I bought, and her skin is beginning to clear up and even her coat is starting to feel nice, as she was constantly shedding because of the dermatitis and scratching.

She’s been on this food for two months as of this review.

The day my pup turned 1 he became allergic to a lot of foods. I’ve tried so many expensive foods and luckily came across a site that allows you to list all allergies and then gives you a list of approved foods.

Well I was given 2 choices this and something that costs twice as much for only 20 lbs of food. I know this is only his first time having this food but he loves it! I’m happy to say no more rash and no more itching.

I’m one happy mama now.

My boy has been eating Hill’s Diet food products for most of his life. He was eating Prescription Diet Metabolic and Mobility for a few years, but feeding time was always a chore. He wouldn’t want to eat it unless topped with boiled chicken breast pieces or canned prescription diet food.

It was expensive enough that I hated wasting food (because he’d eat around it), but as it was prescribed, I didn’t want to not follow his vet’s orders UNTIL there were “supply-chain problems” and that food became extremely expensive and unavailable.

I took advantage of that inability to acquire the more expensive prescription diet food and switched almost very abruptly to this slightly-less-expensive food. It’s the only time that I’ve seen him eat dry food voraciously just for the taste of it since he was an actual puppy and ate to please me.

He’s five now and knows what he wants and has no problems expressing himself when he’s not happy. This food makes meal time less stressful. I love hearing him crunching on his dry food, but I also know that I can trust the brand for healthful and nutritious meals.

At first, I worried about abandoning the prescription diet because it has the added supplements for his arthritic joints. But these newly-formulated options also have the Glucosamine and Chondroitin that the vet recommends and, just in case this formula has less than what is recommended for therapeutic levels, he is still taking the supplements with MSM as well.

That, he does to make me happy; he eats this food out of pure joy. Is it the Lamb and brown rice? I don’t know. All I know is that I am not throwing away food anymore.

My senior dog gained weight and was having constipation issues. Even senior formulas have too many calories for her. My vet recommended I put her on a diet food of my choice. Not only would this help her loose weight, and keep it off, but the extra fiber would help her constipation troubles.

For me, it was a choice between this and Purina Pro Plan. I choose this food as it has about 300 cals per cup as well as having a good fiber content. Simply cutting her portions down more wasn’t helpful as she would simply be consuming too little nutrients and feel hungry.

My dog loves the taste of this food. It seems to smell ok to me (for dog food). This food will make your dog have massive poops, but that is great for my dog who needed the extra fiber. Her issues were beyond pumpkin.

After a transition to this food she is very regular. My dog has lost weight after one bag. She is currently almost 3lb down. She wasn’t massively overweight, but her ideal weight is probably about 62-65 and she was a hefty 70! Weight loss in animals can be slow, but even a few pounds makes a massive difference.

She already looks leaner and has more desire to excersize. I’ll probably keep her on this food long term once she is healthy and bump up the serving size to maintenance.

My geriatric miniature dachshund was having such problems with on-and-off diarrhea. By veterinarian’s direction, I had her on chicken and rice, yet again. I knew I couldn’t do that forever, and I felt desperate.

I had actually tried going completely homemade in the past. The cooking, the portioning, the storage. Ugh. It’s also very hard to get accurate nutrition (vitamins/minerals/macros) and my lifestyle was too busy to maintain it.

They are dancing and spinning and marching at me while I make their bowls. There is absolutely no hesitation, it’s delight all the way. As an aside; it doesn’t really matter, but a nice perk is this food doesn’t smell bad at all! It almost smells like deli meat – kind of smoky.

I think the aroma entices them so much. They’re excited, and I’m not picking up poop off my carpet. They seem happier and I’m looking forward to seeing how this benefits their overall health and coat.

This has literally saved my 15 yr old sheltie mix. She always had tummy troubles so we fed her high end dry dog food. As she aged, she had a harder and harder time. Following a surgery last Nov. she stopped eating dry food.

We tried high end canned food, but she had an upset stomach several days a week. We tried a few brands with the same result. I started making food with unseasoned bone broth and bland meat. that helped, some but she wasn’t thriving, she was sleeping a lot, inactive, and disinterested.

I saw this at the grocery store and thought I’d try it without high expectations. Fast forward it’s been about 6-7 weeks since she started on this. She is thriving. and active for a 15 year old. I’ve been able to slowly mix in the chicken and brown rice roll to now about half and half.

I use the mixed protein chunks for treats. I portion it out and freeze it. Thank you for saving my dog’s life. Definitely worth trying if your dog has a sensitive stomach.

I really wanted to like this because it geared towards sensitive tummy, in which my pup had! However, this seemed to have made it worse. My pup had a runny poo so I wanted to give him wet food to ease his tummy.

Well, this made it worse. He would eat it and had the appetite for it but minutes later, would throw up EVERYTHING he just ate. Which never happened with the regular fresh pet wet food I had him on. Ended up wasting a pack and returning the other.

Not sure what contents are in here but seemed to be an issue with my pup appropriately digesting it.

Long story short: If you’ve tried other “sensitive stomach” dog foods and had no luck, this is the one to get. Dogs love the taste and it helps TREMENDOUSLY with keeping consistent regular bowel movements.

I have a 75 lbs German Shepard mix that my family adopted about three years ago. The rescue knew nothing about her history including food sensitivities. While she is an incredible dog, after a couple of months we discovered that she would stop eating her food, have horrible diarrhea, or both.

We went to the vet, we tried all different types of commercial dog food, and we even started making food for her. No matter what food we tried, she would do great for one or two months, and we’d start all over again.

I’ve had several dogs over the years that developed kidney disease, requiring each to go on prescription diets. My now 15 year old dog has had kidney disease for several years and had been on Hill’s Prescription K/D dry food, until he stopped eating it.

To begin with, it’s ridiculously expensive and each of my 3 dogs that were on it, stopped eating it after some time. I then began giving him the canned variety which is even more expensive than the dry.

Ultimately, I searched for an alternative and discovered Diamond Care RX Renal Formula dry food. Not only does he eat it with gusto, but it’s significantly less expensive than Hill’s. I’ll never go back to Hill’s.
