20 Best Propane Boiler For Radiant Floor Heat (2023 Updated)

This heater works better than I thought. I only ever use in on the low setting, as that puts out a good amount of heat. I love having it! Using it on low keeps our furnace off (which in my situation, the furnace costs way more) so we’re saving a good deal of money!.

I bought this to heat a 7 x 14 cargo trailer. It does so very well at 30 degrees outside temp. the trailer is not insulated but this heater still makes it nice and warm. I didn’t know about the 2. 5 psi pressure regulator that is needed when using a propane bottle.

I couldn’t get it to work right away since the emergency pressure switch was activated but once I figured it out I was able to get the heater on and working.

The heater heats beautifully but when we need only ONE burner we can only get two! Sometimes we don’t need that much heat!

5 starts for 2 reasons. The first is it has lasted more than 1 hunting season (this is it’s 4th season) unlike allllllll the other mr heaters I’ve had. It seems this is the only one the mice don’t destroy.

The other reason is because I’ve never had it passed it’s lowest setting. I mean this thing will heat you out of your deer stand or ice shack. It takes about 30 seconds to get to the same temp as the surface of the sun.

My ONLY bad opinion about this unit is it really is not quiet at all. You think it is while it’s running but when you shut it off you realize it is not.

My husband purchased this heater to warm up the chicken coop when the weather was extremely cold. The first time he used it he did not have any issues and it worked great. He does not leave it in the chicken coop.

He takes it out there and leaves it on for a short time( 15 or 20 minutes) then leaves it inside our enclosed porch. After that he would have to spend 30 minutes or more to get it to light at all. When the weather is cold it will not even attempt to light.

It is very disappointing.

I bought originally to heat up my Pop Up 6 x 6 Ice Shelter. Tested in my back yard on a 9 degree day. Heated up to 79 degrees in a little less than 3. 5 minutes. LOL then Bought the 3800 BYU Little Buddy which is sized for my shelter.

Use the Mr Heater for cooking lunch in a cast iron skillet outside the shelter. Worked great in 13 degress. Set up with my ice slead as little wind block to prevent blowout which can happen in strong winds.

Also used to rapidlt heat up my kids frozen feet because they wore the wrong socks ice fishing. I stayed of on the shelter, too hot but they loved it. Aldo used it when chopping wood, working on my lawn tractor/snowblower outside.

Even used to thaw a frozen carburator throttle but would not recommend if you do not know what you are doing. Very well made and very powerful. Could eaisily heat up a house room in an emergency but you need to have adequete venting (open window).

Again not a recommendation for inexperienced users.

It is eazy to put the feat on or wall mount. It warms the entire space well on low settings. The fan helps move warm throughout the area. The burner comes off and on at good temperature & the fan turns off & on by its self if you set the switch to do so.

It’s a great price. The burner cover hasn’t come in handy yet but I’m sure it will.

Works as described, heats the room very quickly, easy to set up. I do like that the thermastat is as stated and will turn off and on to regulate room temperature. Not pretty, but works well in our small cabin.

Replaced the Mr. Heater Blue Flame 30,000 BTU Heater, with this unit. This unit seems to be more efficient at distributing the heat than the Blue Flame was. Had electric heaters running all through the house and was still cold.

Within minutes of getting this unit installed and operating, the house is warm. Am very happy with this heater and intend to get another one to have on hand to replace this one when it becomes non-functional.

Bought this heater to warm the garage during my group workout classes. I tried different electric infrared heaters but they all failed to even take the bite off the chilly early morning temps in the garage during the Fall and Winter in WA.

The Mr. Heater 18K BTU propane cabinet heater does a nice job of providing heat for our 3 car garage when it’s 45 degrees outside. The wheels on the unit make it very easy to move around and they can be locked so that the unit doesn’t accidentally get bumped or pushed into something or someone.

It uses a standard propane take like the “Blue Rhino” ones that can be switched out at a grocery store. So you don’t have to keep switching out the tank like the ones in the Mr. Buddy heaters. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get the starter to ignite so that would be my only complaint.

Overall I am very happy with the unit and would highly recommend. I haven’t tried it when the temps drop below 40 degrees, but I feel like it will be able to sufficiently heat the garage so it’s not bitterly cold.

Was excited to get this connected ya know with the fan and all, being a free add on. After unboxing the unit I popped off the spot welded opening on the back of the heater to install the “free fan” only to find there is no heat sensor to install on the heater.

There’s a mounting hole, where it should go, to connect the fan to the unit. No wonder the fan was free, it’s absolutely useless! Moving on, there was no problem getting the heater assembled and fired up with a double check on the propane connections with soapy water.

This unit generates a good amount of heat. It will be useful in my 750 Sq Ft shop as soon as the insulation is finished up. Right now I’m testing it out on an enclosed porch seeing how quickly it heats a 150 Sq Ft area, it went from 19 degrees F to 46 in about 20 minutes.

I put the feet on it and placed it on on a couple of patio blocks to keep it off the carpet. Placed a 12″ fan behind it on a shelf to to circulate the heat. I’m curious to see how quick I will go through a 20 lb tank.

Keeping it at around 50 degrees. Overall I’m confident I’ll be happy with this unit. The fan option would have been nice but obviously that wasn’t a deal breaker.

We live on a ranch in N. E. Arizona & while we have grid power, it’s not as reliable as I’d like. So I bought this as a backup heat source. Of course I had to try it when it got down to the low 40s at night.

The heat settings range from 1-5, 1 being the lowest. I set it on #2 (so the flame was out when it felt comfortable) then had the ceiling fans set on low. The next morning, it was 72 throughout the entire house! I’m sure it cycled on & off during the night but nobody saw it.

My wife mentioned that it worked really well. So I replied. “Yeah, it’s amazing that just the little flame from the pilot light kept the entire house warm all night. ” It really sucks that I’m the only one here with such a great sense of humor.

I didn’t get the optional fan kit. 1. The store didn’t have any and 2. if we are using it because we don’t have power, the fan is useless anyway. 3. It works great without it. Besides what I bought it for, this would be perfect for off-grid use, or even a workshop.

It performs much better than expected, so of course I’d buy it again.

Like the heater so far. Easy to set up as a free standing heater and it really throws some heat. Only use it as a supplemental heat source a few hours a day and have only set it on level 2. This setting is plenty hot and kicks the heater on for about 10 minutes with about a 20 minute off cycle.

At this setting the heater does not seem to be using a lot of fuel and is keeping our living room cozy. Too bad a fan is not included which means they want to make more money off of you. The heater does seem to give off some fumes, so it is good to have a way to circulate air.

We reverse our ceiling fan in the room the heater is located in and run an air purifier at the same time. The unit really gets hot, so user must really be very careful to follow instructions and I would never run it unless someone is monitoring it pretty much all the time.

Would be very apprehensive using it with small children around.

I have a shop in the garage. Obviously, it can get cold out there so a decent heater seemed to be in order. Dewalt is a name I’ve grown to trust. Most of the time their products work superb. Assembly was easy, instructions were alright and didn’t take very long to get set up.

It puts out a good amount of heat, my garage gets warm fairly quickly and if I leave on for 40-50 minutes or so I can get comfortable on a 32 degree day for an extra hour +\- after that. After connecting to a 20lb tank, held in the button to feed the LP to the unit, takes a little longer than I would like to get enough to operate (about 10 seconds).

Makes a loud scream-like noise on start, but I can live with it. Heat output was more than sufficient, but there are two major drawbacks. First, no air to push the heat makes this unit need to run longer than I would care for.

It can take a while to heat up a space. Second, no variable temperature control, and despite the “12 hour” run time, I constantly find this thing running out of juice. I purchased on sale for 139. 99, and though it works I would have rather spent the money on a comparable unit.

I will attempt to mount a thermoelectric fan on top in hopes that helps. Make sure to check for dust and debris and clean when needed, keep away from flammable objects.

Had issues with the propane igniting right off the head of the orifice before making into the burner area. Would happen intermittently and not to be operated without supervision as you should immediately turn it off when it happens.

This was on a standard propane cylinder from the hardware store nothing out of the ordinary. Happened inside an enclosed space and outside so wind was not a factor.

This heater heats up my 2. 5 car uninsulated garage from 25F to 70F in about 30min. Not as fast as my 150,000 BTU Dewalt forced air unit, but after 15min it’s warm enough to work in the garage. The advantage with this unit is it’s quiet and you can leave it on the whole time (won’t get too hot).

My 150k unit has to be turned off at times, too hot, even on low setting. I teach classes in my garage at times and needed a quiet heater, which is why I bought this unit. It’s built well and looks great.

Product performs as described Easy installation, you can hear the blower but it is expected and not to loud just make sure you follow the safety indications for proper fresh air supply and will have a nice warm space, choose your heater btu accordingly to the space you need to heat.

So far, I’m very happy with this heater. Love the thermostat, fan, and electric start. Much better than my previous heater. Thanks.

We use the Heatstar in our Patio room. First heater in over 20 years that actually comfortably heats the room on a consistent basis. We love it!!

In early January 2021 we wanted to schedule a camping trip for our kids spring break to relieve ourselves from our COVID-19 isolation. So, we scheduled a trip to a popular Texas Hill Country state park, not knowing ahead of our trip towards the end of February would be a cold spell the likes of not seen in the area for many prior decades.

The fact that we were even more isolated for a whole week 2/14-2/20 keeping warm burning logs in our fireplace due to the lack of electricity, we were even more determined to finally get out of the house.

After the storm we knew we would be needing a heater of some type and began shopping online. Due to the cold snap all the available Mr. Buddy portable heaters were bought yet after speaking to the very helpful Acme Tool representative on the phone in the store, then the on-line representative she was able to locate this DeWalt heater made by Mr.

Heater which used a V20amp DeWalt battery (we already owned) to power the fan as well as support other USB features the unit offered. Although we researched the item concerned of carbon dioxide emissions which were non-existent with this item, my wife still had concerns about using it in an enclosed tent.

But, feeling we needed something in case another cold wave should surprise us during the trip, we bought the DeWalt heater. When we called the on-line representative, she made sure to take advantage of every perk to get our heater at the best possible price and ultimately with the needed add-on accessories the purchase qualified for free shipping.

Time was running out as we only had a short time before our March 6th trip and I don’t know if the representative did anything special to expedite the shipment but it was at our doorstep in two days even though standard shipping indicated it would be at least four.

March 5 was upon us before we knew it and we were out enjoying nature of the Hill Country. The heater performed better than we expected, heating our tent and keeping everyone very cozy. After suffering through the coldest spell Texas has seen in some time, we are confident we will not suffer from frost bite or need to burn a cord of wood to keep warm if we should ever experience unimaginable cold the likes of what we did February 2021.

I haven’t gotten to use this at length but I did fire it up on the one propane bottle I had laying around here just to make sure it worked and it does! Seems to work well. I got this for about 40 bucks less than I see it listed for right now during the pre-holiday sales.

It arrived in good shape and I hope to get lots of use out of it when I get my garage set up better for working out there. I read a lot of review complaints from people about it blowing out easily but that doesn’t concern me as I only plan to use this in my garage where there will be no breeze.

DeWalt built upon the Buddy/Mr. Heater/whatever platform and gave this some additional bells & whistles compared to the standard heater. The ignition source comes from two small AAA batteries and not any Dewalt tool batteries so anyone can make use of this heater, Regardless of what tools and batteries you may or may not have.

I know it’s made to be very portable, but I plan on pretty much using it in my garage. I’m happy with it.

Heater works great, and the power fan helps heat circulation. Takes no time to heat a large ice fishing shack. Some of the extra features are handy but not necessary. If you have a choice between this and the Mr.

Heater I would tell you to save your money and purchase the Mr. Heater. The extra cost on this heater doesn’t really get you much. Zero complaints about performance, it is just a bit pricey. If you really want the extra features this one has than I would not hesitate.

It is the little things that can make a good product, unfortunately this heater falls short. The regulator worked at first, but it has stopped working. I have ordered a good regulator instead of the cheap one I was sent.

The lighter is temperamental, I had to nudge it into place to get it to work. Once it is lit, it puts out a lot of heat. A lot!!! But in the mean time, I can’t use it because of little things. One other thing, some of the piping is made of plastic, Plastic??? Really? Here is this heat producing machine and plastic pipe is used.

The plastic pipe is located under the burner, there is a sheet of metal between the burner and the plastic pipe. I doubt this meets any kind of code.

Purchased this to heat my shop and it does a fine job. The gas valve is awkward to use. Sometimes I can get it to light like it should and sometimes it ignites in a burst of flames. The instructions were no help.

Best price I could find online. Have this to heat a 2,000 sq ft garage. So far, very satisfied with heat output. Best option to spending $2k on a furnace for garage.

I am a basic do-it-yourselfer. I needed this specific unit to replace a legacy unit that had served its purpose. Putting this in was a little bit of carpentry on the floor to match the openings, a crawl under the house to position the unit.

An hour or two to replace and hook up new gas lines, vent and thermostat wire and presto it worked like a champ. And is still working flawlessly to keep the tenants warm and happy. Simple, dependable and just what the Doctor ordered on this side.

Wish I could find more in other sizes. In our community these things are a staple in older homes. And it seems to put out a lot more heat than my geothermal and heat pump units.

I have been to crawfish boils in the past and was thrilled with the opportunity to have my own. The LoCo Crawfish Boiler 150 quart is a beast and I am looking forward to years of gatherings with friends and family.

I live a couple hours from the Louisiana coast and have a local gentleman that is now supplying me with my crawfish. Set-up is easy and the directions are thorough. To successfully operate the boiler, you will need a filled propane tank, gloves to handle the hot metal handles and a long paddle or spoon.

I find a 4’ spoon to be more of a 2-in-1. I have never paid attention to the in and outs of using one of these boilers, so I was surprised at how easy it was to operate the first time: simply press the battery-operated ignitor switch to get things going.

My favorite feature is that the once the crawfish have finished their soak, you flip the sturdy lid and then lift the strainer basket, emptying your bounty into the lid. I also like that the boiler can be used for numerous foods and is not limited to seafood.

I have boiled crawfish once and it was mouthwatering and next I am going to try tamales and then some boiled peanuts. To do it all over again, I would go with the 90 quart for size alone. Its footprint is quite a bit smaller and I am not sure we will ever max to the 150 quart (up to 30 people).

I am immensely satisfied with the quality of this boiler and recommend it for anyone who enjoys hosting parties or boiling foods in bulk.

I got this thing with one thing in mind: tailgates. This, for me, is the Taylor made boiler for a host. I ran the boil time and came in at 20 minutes with tepid water. It’s very very easy to assemble.

The key features are the wheels, the size of the basket, and it’s functionality. The way the basket unloads really makes the transfer so much better. Also underrated for function is the cleanup. I boiled water and wiped down with a natural lemon cleaner.

10 minutes. It takes your boil to the next level and it looks good while doing it.

I love this boiler. It was so easy to set up a few little minor parts to attach but pretty much ready to go as soon as you receive it. The few family members I invited over to help me try it out were in Ahh of the boiler they were kinda jealous to say the least, This is going to be a must have for our future crawfish boils plenty of room for all the other stuff you throw in to the potatoes,corn and shrimp.

The basket lifts up with ease and the lid of the boiler has a slide lid that allows you to dump the crawfish onto the lid and direct into a cooler without losing any. Clean up was easy. I can’t wait to use it again and again.

Very easy to move with the wheels. I bought a tarp to keep it clean when not in use,.

I’m so happy with this boiler. I installed it to replace my 40 year old oil boiler that sounded like a bomb was igniting every time it fired up. The Weil-McLain is as close to silent as you can imagine.

It cranks our way more heat than my old oil boiler and costs way less to fuel. I especially like how the Weil-McLain modulates its burner based on incoming water temperature. I installed it about three months ago and it’s meeting or exceeding all of my hopes and expectations.

I also purchased the easy-up kit to make installation easier and I think it was worth the extra $500.

Triangle tube challenger replacement due to constant ticky tack part failures throughout that machine. Ordered this unit to replace – very easy install – unit fired right up and hasn’t missed a beat since.

It seems to be more efficient than prior unit as gas pressure drop is pretty much non-existent leading me to believe that the gas usage is much better being a 10 stage vs 6 stage. Haven’t checked propane tank since install – hoping for surprise there.

Very nice unit. Requires a recirculator in order to get hot water quickly. Otherwise works wonderfully, keeps the house warm and the water hot. Pressure regulator however does overflow often over 30 PSI.

Because of this it Requires attachment to a drain.

Nice product but can’t get it to work for me. No one in my area will work on it. Very poor instructions and tech support is of little help. Domestic water side is great but Can’t get the heat side to work properly.

We have been building restaurants for over 25 years and on our last install the plumber in question installed one of these units. 3-1/2 years later the unit sprung a leak and AOSmith would not stand by it, saying they only warranty them for 3 years.

We have used many heaters in other locations (not AO Smith) which have always lasted for more than 10 years. We will never buy AOSmith products again and wanted to spread the word. Check out other reviews on other sites to get the story!.

Keeps up with hot water demand. I replace my old water heater. It arrived within a few days, unfortunately, no weekend delivery available. Need some strong people to move it. It’s heavy. Even though it was pricey, it was still cheaper than buying through a local plumbing company.

Owner of hotel purchased this heater thru supply house. I removed old heater and installed one of these 100 gallon cyclones. Installation was a breeze ! I wish I would have timed how long it took to heat first tank of water to 120.

I don’t think it took more than 10 minutes !! This heater is a BEAST ! ! LOVE IT.

Great purchase experience with Total Home Supply and a really good functioning heater. Good quality heater that has worked flawlessly so far far.

I worked with my local propane company to have this installed. I’m very glad that I did. I received a substantial rebate form the NC Ptopane Association safe installation program. I bought the 65,000 btu closed front floor model with the blower.

Install went quickly and my wife “says it looks nice” in the corner of our very large dining room. When the blower kicked on for the first time my wife happened to be standing in front of it. ” Oh nice, this has a foot warmer” she said.

I knew at that point the heater was staying for the long term. I have a 2000 sq ft bungalow built in 1925; you know the rest – nine foot ceilings, very little insulation. The “heat generator” as I call it kicks on for roughly five minutes per hour (tested at 30 degree outdoor temperature) there is no other heat source in the front half, one thousand square feet, of the house.

The current indoor temperature is 72 degrees. With propane at 2. 26 a gallon, six munutes per hour works out to about 25 cents – remember this is at an outdoor temperature of 30 degrees. My ” looks nice” heat generator “with a foot warmer” turns out to be more economical thean my forced air natural gas system or the six electric heaters I just turned off for good.

If you are looking for real heat at an affordable price – don’t come knocking on my door because my wife will never give this one up. Call your local propane company and ask for this big Empire ” heat generator” At 2 a.

m I’ve been warm and cozy while writing this review. P. S. I had a ceiling heat duct installed that moves heat to the back of the house, still only runs a few minutes per hour and now the bedrooms are cozy warm.

When delivered was packaged well and wrapped with significant plastic wrap, none of which was damaged or even torn. When opened, noticed a large dent on the right side of the furnace, this had to have been damaged prior to packaging because the box was pristine.

Really disappointed, but it does do the job of heating great.

Excellent. It’s keeping my 1250 sq. Ft. Garage nice and warm. It replaced a wood burning stove (no more cutting wood). I’ve got the 35000 BTU warming the pool room upstairs for the last 20 years, great products!.

The Weil-McLain Indirect Fired Water Heaters are extremely well made and durable. They easily out produce direct fired heaters of the same size. Installation is easy and the connections are well made and all located on the back of the heater.

A new digital thermostat did require new wiring, four wires instead of two. My only disappointment is Weil-McLain eliminated the inspection port and the magnesium anode for the Aqua-Plus Series 2 model.

Every five years, I replaced the anode and opened the inspection port. The interior of the tank was clean with no sign of corrosion. However, sand like debris did accumulate in the bottom of the tank and I simply vacuumed it out!.

I am not able to do so with the Series 2 model. I wonder why Weil-McLain eliminate serviceability in their new Aqua-Plus Series 2 model? Is it to limit their life span by eliminating the ability to inspect and clean the tank?.

My old indirect water heater rotted out. Contractors were so busy they said they couldn’t get to me for 6 weeks and they quoted me amounts from 5500 to 6000 for a new in-direct water heater. I really didn’t want to work on a boiler/water heater in Dec but 6 weeks was no good.

So I went on-line and checked supply house like I have done many times. I ordered a new Weil-McClain indirect water heater, mixing valve and all kinds of other fittings while I ripped out the old one.

Installed the new one without any difficulties just a lot of time down I would rather have spent on something else. When I got to the point of wiring up the thermostat control module, when calling for heat, the thermostat control unit was not closing the switch to enable power to flow to the zone valve motor.

I got help from Charlie C with Supply House And Justin with Weil-McClain Weil-McClain issued a warranty replacement and supply house shipped it right out. They took care of the issue, got me a new module so I could get everything working.

Now the important issue. This saved me about 4000 dollars, if you figure income tax a person has to earn 6000 to pay that 4000 so I only had to take 2000 out of my IRA. Don’t let contractors fool you, boilers are not space shuttles.

There are items we must be willing learn to install them safely but if they can learn it so can the rest of us. I will admit that it may be a bit easier for me being an engineer. A water heater and a zone valve, anyone can learn to handle it.

Over the years, supply house has saved me many thousands of dollars. Great company to work with.

This Weil-McLain unit is a replacement for a Dunkirk H2O unit that started leaking after only 5 years. Obviously I didn’t want another Dunkirk. The Weil-McLain’s pipe connections are all in different locations so this homeowner installation was more complicated than a like-unit replacement would have been.

Can’t fault the Weil-McLain for this, and the price for this stainless steel tank was attractive. The Weil-McLain control unit is more involved to install than the Dunkirk’s Honeywell Aquastat, and requires a separate 24VAC source.

This wasn’t difficult but required obtaining a transformer and wiring it up. The Aqua-Plus unit works fine and delivers all the hot water we need. Recommended.

Can’t give a review when I have not been able to use the heater. No legs. They are on back order till February. 🙁
