20 Best Primer For Pores And Oily Skin (2023 Updated)

The primer is basically the colour of the tube, (nude / flesh toned) although it applies to your skin clear. It has the consistency of a gel and reminds me of (a tinted version of) Benefit’s Pore-ffesional Primer – with the silicone-y feel to it.

It glides on & spreads easily & has nice “slip”. There is no discernible scent. I have sensitive skin & this primer doesn’t cause me to break out. Most importantly, it blurs pores and also mattifies skin.

I have absolute crater pores on my chin, and if this primer can blur my pores, I am sure it can handle whatever you have 🙂 I have tried so many primers at a range of price points and I keep coming back to this one.

I am so scared that it will get discontinued or Shoppers will stop carrying it (you can’t buy it in Canada anywhere else) that I stock up & always have 3 extras for every tube I am using!.

I can’t say enough good things about Makeup Revolution. The products are within a reasonable price range, and they all deliver the same results as pricier brands. I wish I’d found this brand hundreds of dollars ago! This Pore Blur Primer goes on smoothly and makes my skin look flawless.

The consistency is super-silky. I can even wear it without any powder or foundation. My skin can still breathe, and it helps my makeup last for hours instead of minutes. Remember: a little goes a long way, so be careful when squeezing the bottle.

The best little trick I discovered: use a bit of this primer on your eyebrows before filling in with a pencil, gel, etc. The primer helps the brow makeup stay in place. My brow makeup lasts all day, with only minor touch-ups needed (if any at all) late into the evening.

I’ll definitely buy this again when I run out!.

I got this product and Mabeline Fit Me Matte Poreless primer. I liked the soft texture of the Pore Blur and it definitely helped with pores! I did one on each half of my face and Pore Blur performed far better.

Haven’t used it under make-up yet, but I was planning to use this alone, so very happy!.

This is the second product I have tried from Elizabeth Mott and I can’t tell you how in love I am! I knew after i tried the mascara that this product would be good. Just to clarify I bought this primer in the illuminating style and not matte.

I have combination but I do get redness and it helped tone some of that down before I even put on my foundation. It helped smooth out my makeup pretty well and a little goes a long way with this primer.

Made my makeup last longer and look even better! Don’t over do it. please. lol.

PLEASE, PLEASE!! Do not discontinue this product! I have been using Shine Stopper for a long time, and I cannot imagine going without it! The generously sized tube lasts forever! At age 60, I still have mostly oily skin (except the skin around my eyes and cheekbone area).

This product stops the oil-slick breakthrough in my T-zone all day until I remove my makeup at night. I don’t need a primer, setting powder, or blotting papers! This product does it all with no fuss or touch-ups needed! My large pores almost disappear as soon as I apply it.

I have never found anything else like it! The trick for me is to lightly dab/press tiny amounts of the product ON TOP of my foundation, on the oily-prone areas with a small dry beauty blender. It dries very quickly to a soft matte finish, and doesn’t disturb the underlying foundation.

This is the first skincare product I ever felt compelled to write a review for. I’ve been using a mostly Paula’s Choice routine for a few years now and decided to buy this kind of on a whim. I have always had oily skin, but this year I was diagnosed with PCOS and my skin has gotten WAY more oily.

Felt like I was in high school again and I was always wiping at my brow bones and forehead throughout the day. I have been using this product for a little over a week and the results are incredible. I’m almost scared at how good it works.

Goes on incredibly well over my morning routine products (even super goop sunscreen) and does what it advertises to do. Even on very long days I end the day with a healthy looking dewiness, not a perfect matte but with no residual oil if I were to touch.

I also think it makes my pores look a little smaller on my forehead, but that could be confirmation bias. This is a new staple in my skincare!!.

Overall, I’m pleased. For the first 4 months, I was thrilled – no shine all day long. It was amazing! But now, perhaps with the change of seasons into summer, it’s less effective. After 3 hours, I’m starting to look oily again, so I’m back to using blotting papers with this product, but I’m blotting just a few times per day now instead of hourly.

Background: I have very sensitive, reactive, acne-prone skin with Type II Rosacea. My t-zone is always very oily and shiny, and so for years I’ve been using blotting papers to absorb the oil. Even then, within an hour my skin was visibly oil again.

I started using this Shine Stopper back in late-January (it’s now July), and so I’ve got 6 months of experience with it. Most importantly, it doesn’t irritate my skin or cause breakouts. This is HUGE for me.

Most products don’t meet this requirement.

This is the best primer I’ve come across so far! I recently started wearing less makeup on my skin so just concealer, powder, blush, bronzer. I wanted something to help me stay less shiny as I have very oily skin and didn’t want to use a foundation to mattify my skin.

This product is perfect! I still get the 5pm glow but it’s not an oily mess glow it’s like a light highlight peeking through. I’m scent/fragrance sensitive and this does not bother me, it’s just a light clean scent.

It’s also not so “silicone” and feels more like a serum. I love this!.

This is one of those products that I had just sitting in the bottom of all my samples and I just kept pushing it to the side. However the one day I took a look at it and gave it a shot and it immediately became my absolute favorite primer.

I typically have more oily skin and I work very long days so I need something that helps keep my shine intact and helps clear up some of the imperfections on my face to make a nice palette for the powder foundations that I typically use.

This primer goes above and beyond.

I wasn’t sure which primer to buy and decided on this one because I wanted the Matt effect. I used to use the Pure Focus Moisturizer and was looking for something that would also have that mattifying effect.

This primer has been great, I wear it every day. It is very light, soft and smooth when it goes on, but you really don’t even notice it is there, allows you to layer the primer with your foundation and even powder or concealers without feeling like you have anything on your face at all.

Very fresh feel and the mattifying effect is perfect. Makeup stays fresh and natural looking all day. It is a good moisturizer keeps your skin feeling good all day. This was the original purpose that I purchased it.

Only note is if you use a highlighter, you may get that dewy look (from the added highlighter) – at first, I thought it was that the matte primer wasn’t working, but then I realized my highlighter was countering the effect.

Still beautiful, but obviously if you put something on top of it that gives a dewy look, the other non-matte primer is probably a better fit for you.

This started pilling as soon as I began putting it on. I thought it was just my sunscreen because that happens a lot with primers and sunscreen. But then it started to burn a bit like it had menthol in it and it felt really gritty like there was sand in it.

I thought ok it says it has powder in it, no big deal and the burning sensation quickly dissipated. Dusted off all the pilled up bits and began putting my concealer on (I usually only wear concealer and a little powder).

My skin looked like the Sahara sooo flaky and crusty and just gross. I’ve kept it on all day just to see if it helped with oil control but it doesn’t even have that redeeming quality. I’ll be returning this.

Most expensive primer I’ve ever purchased and also the worst.

I first purchased this product a few years ago and fell in love with it. I was looking for something that was comfortable, slightly grippy and that would smooth and blur the pores in my T-Zone, and for a long time this did the job.

However, the last time I repurchased and used this product it felt scratchy and extremely unpleasant on the skin. It made my skin look red, and felt very uncomfortable under my foundation (almost as if there were small filings in the formula?).

I’m not sure if Nars changed the formula or if I got a bad batch, but everything else in my skincare and makeup routine had stayed constant aside from using a new tube of this primer, so that’s what I’m pinning the discomfort on.

I still had 3/4 of a tube left but ended up chucking it out to try something else instead.

Ok you guys, seriously this is super moisturizing and it has spf already in it. If you know me then you know I love products that can do multiple things. I used this primer and then put the makeup forever powder Y235 over it and it was amazing.

It looked airbrushed. The glow still showed through and the powder did not look drying at all. I would say this is pricey and some people will not like how moisturizing it is if they like matte primers.

This is a great option for any matte foundation or matte powder.

Best primer ever. Expensive but works amazing. Blurring and really helps makeup stay out and minimizes pores and lines. Aldo waterproof, combined with the waterproof foundation and the waterproof setting spray, you can go to the beach or the water park.

Amazing! The best if you have oily type skin. Very matteifying but without drying. Texture is amazing and silicone like too.

I’ve always used Clinique’s Pore Refining Solutions Instant Perfector in Invisible Light and it’s been my holy grail of pore miimizing primers. I’ll wait until Clinique has a good GWP and buy a couple.

When I visited my local CCO last week they were having a 50% off sale so I decided to give the Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer a go because they were out of stock on my Clinique Instant Perfector.

I’d always heard good things about the Smashbox primer but was always hesitant because of the price tag. Now, it’s interesting to note in case anyone is interested in comparing the prices, technically when looking at full retail price the Smashbox is cheaper! The Clinique Instant Perfector is $22 for only 0.

5 oz but the Smashbox is $39 for 1. 0 oz. So I suppose the incentive for me to keep purchasing the Clinique is for the GWP?! At this point it doesn’t really matter WHICH primer I buy because. I compared the ingredients between the two primers.

they are almost EXACTLY the same, with only 1 or two slight differences. So not only is the price comparable so are the ingredients. And another interesting tidbit, NYX’s Pore Filler has most of the same ingredients as well so that might be worth trying as well especially since it’s a LOT less expensive than the Clinique or Smashbox pore minimizers.

I also researched a few other primers. it’s very interesting how so many of the same kind of products from different companies have so many of the same ingredients! Overall, I really do love the Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer, and if you like the Clinique Instant Perfector you’ll definitely like this Smashbox primer as well.

It wears well, stays matte for the day and doesn’t have an offensive smell at all which is a plus for me. It does blur my pores a bit like the Clinique Instant Perfector and hasn’t broken me out at all.

I used to love it back in the day but the formula feels outdated. It was very thick like somone in reviews compared it to ‘dry cream’ and I think it’s very accurate. It did help hide pores but it made my skin dull and dry and ithy.

I don’t now maybe formula has changed? I had used like two of this but the third tube I just threw out because it broke me out like never before and it also gone bad quickly. I would choose benefit pore filling primer over this!.

I really wanted try this primer after reading all rave reviews. Do like how easy it is to apply and the product leaves a nice dewy surface on my skin. My issue is when applying it over my Elemis moisturizer it flakes off.

I’ve attempted to apply it right afterwards moisturizing or beginning my makeup routine then applying it. Doesn’t seem to matter still have flakes all over my face! I really wanted to try this product but it’s waste of money for me.

I love this primer! Firstly, I don’t really wear makeup often, most days I’ll wear none, and others just a bit of a base and mascara, unless I’m going out or have an event. Even if I’m not wearing makeup I sometimes like to put a primer on just to even out my skin and make it’s appearance slightly more smooth.

This primer works wonders. It actually creates an airbrush effect, without looking like a filter or heavy makeup on its own. It helps even out my skin tone, and I have lots of redness, as well as making my pores appear smaller.

In addition to wearing on its own, under makeup this is great, it provides a firm base to apply your makeup on, ready for all foundation and concealer, which then won’t budge until your ready to remove.

It’s light on your skin so it can still breath and doesn’t feel heavy or as if it’s clogging up your pores. I would recommend this product to others based on my own personal experience.

I have received a couple trial size tubes of No7 Airbrush Away Primer in No7 beauty kits that I have purchased. No7 Airbrush Away Primer has a nice velvety feel and absorbs and blends into my skin nicely.

It works well under makeup. Unfortunately, like most anti-aging products I’ve used, No7 Airbrush Away Primer did not blur away my fine lines and wrinkles. Maybe I’m expecting too much from anti-aging products at age 49.

If you like a thick, heavy, cream primer, then this is the primer for you! It is white in color but doesn’t appear white on the face when applied. I thought a little would go a long way but it seems to take a bit of elbow grease to blend it in so I found myself using more than I thought I would.

It acted as any other primer I’ve ever used and created an even base for my makeup to sit on. I enjoyed this product and would recommend it to family and friends. I moreso enjoyed the price as I got a TON of Rimmel makeup (I believe it was 7 items, including the primer, for under $4.

okay, so. i have oily skin and pores big enough to park a car in. what i like about this is, it tightens pores BEAUTIFULLY. as long as you moisturize well beforehand, it’ll give you a smooth, silky, kinda ‘matte’ finish without that weird, tight, over dry feeling.

i don’t really like wearing a lot of makeup, and with this, i can just use a little concealer on any blemishes and go. no foundation, no nothin! it coulda been sold for twice the price. i really, really like it.

I really didn’t notice any difference with this primer at all. It didn’t help my makeup stay on, it didn’t feel like it moisturized, blurred pores, make things more matte, anything. It also almost seemed like it didn’t want to sink into my skin but more like sit on top which I don’t usually like because my makeup seems to slide around or come off more easily that way and it just makes things looks worse.

I would of returned it had I not lost my receipt. Luckily all rimmel at my local store was on sale so I only ended up paying about $2 for it. I tried it about 3 times and everytime it just seemed to do nothing or make things look more worse then usual.

So far I have been pleasantly surprised by how well the primer works. It blends into my skin really well, “mattifies” my oil zones, & smoothed my skin overall. I was not expecting such a silky look to come over my skin but this primer definitely delivered it! 💜 Under make up I applied this primer, & let’s it set while I did my brows and then put on my foundation concealer setting powder etc.

like normal. I felt as if it absorbed into my skin, like it didn’t sit on top or give me an awkward finish. I also thought the primer was long lasting and gave me a very matte look which is something I love.

My make up didn’t budge (I did use setting spray) & I knew it was because of this primer because the rest of the products and tools I used are my normal every day wear. 💜 As for the benefits of salicylic acid in this primer I honestly don’t know what it’s suppose to do nor have I noticed a change to my skin💜 Overall I love the primer & enjoyed using it! I will continue using it until it empties & will repurchase it in the future 💜.

This stuff is amazing! I have combination skin and get VERY oily in my t-zone. I usually wear matte foundations but sometimes I want a more natural finish. This allows me to wear a natural finish foundation (like Nars Sheer Glow) without getting oily.

I will say a few tips. First off you might have to experiment to figure out if this works for you. Oily skin is usually the result of skin that lacks moisture, so start with a good moisturizer. Use a setting powder to set your foundation.

If you really want your makeup to last on oily skin, use a good setting/finishing spray that also controls oil too. I love Urban Decay’s oil-deslick and there are some other good ones on the market. I say you have to experiment because sometimes it’s not your primer making you oily, it’s your moisturizer (or lack thereof), makeup, or setting/finishing spray.

I bought the sample size and tested it out with my foundation and altered different steps over a couple of days to make sure it really worked for me. In the end this was what really made my makeup flawless!.

I typically don’t use primers, because they make me breakout. I’ve had this issue with the regular smash box photo finish primer as well as a slew of other name brand primers. Unfortunately I suffer with adult acne.

I would say it’s usually 1-5 blemishes and not more severe. However after using a primer or foundation for a night I instantly break out the next day. I try to use face makeup with acne fighting medications.

However it can be difficult to find quality makeup containing such ingredients. I saw this product while browsing at my local Sephora store. I noticed it had salicylic acid in it. However I cannot find the percentage of this ingredient on the package.

A Google search said it has 2% salicylic acid, but I can’t confirm that. I can confirm that this product does not cause me to break out and appears to be helping improve my acne versus making it worse.

So while this product is advertised as a shine control primer I’d say it’s also an acne control primer. I definitely recommend especially for acne prone skin.

I was really hoping this primer would be “the one” for my oily skin. I can’t seem to find a primer that keeps my makeup looking good for more than a few hours, even with touch-ups. I will say that this primer does offer me much longer lasting oil control than any other primer I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a ton of them).

BUT, the problem is that this primer dries down so fast that I can’t get my foundation to apply evenly. I use a damp BeautyBlender sponge to apply my foundation, and the foundation I’m currently using (Dior Forever in the matte formulation) is a thinner consistency than some I’ve used in the past.

The primer just grips the foundation and won’t allow me to move it around and blend it evenly. So I end up looking patchy where the primers grips more in some places than others. I’m not sure why this is happening, because I moisturize before applying the primer.

I have also tried this primer with thicker foundations (Estee Lauder Double Wear), and that was even more of a disaster than when I used it with the Dior foundation. This primer offers excellent oil control, so it does live up to the hype in that department.

But it’s no good to me if it’s going to make my foundation patchy. The only way I can see myself being able to use this primer is if I decide not to wear foundation one day. The search for a great oil control primer continues.

YOU. GUYS. This primer is fantastic. I’ve always had extremely oily skin, and have always been doubtful that primers did much. This primer, however, has been game-changing. I’ve read some of the other reviews, and have to say that there was a learning curve with this primer for me–so I see why many people have had difficulty with it.

First, you need so so so little–I mean start with just a pinhead amount (truly), and apply it only to areas you get oiliest in a thin layer. I assumed I was oily everywhere, but this primer helped me see that I really only get oily in the center of my forehead and down my nose (I use maybe 2-3 tiny dollops total).

When I apply across my T-zone I’m truly shine free for 8+ hours. Like I said, it’s incredible. This primer, however, is NOT really for the whole face–especially if, like me, you have dry patches (which this will definitely accentuate).

That said, where I’m oiliest I don’t have that issue. It’s amazing not worrying about the state of my makeup just a few short hours after applying it. Try this primer–seriously–it will leave your skin so comfortable, refreshed, and dry (in a good way) ;).

I realized this product has a scent and I immediately knew I was gonna have trouble with it. I have developed a lot of acne. I have extremely sensitive skin and fragrance irrites me.

I purchased the mini because I wanted to try it out without committing to a full sized product. I’m so glad I didn’t waste a bunch of money on this because it just was not for me. I have dry skin and matte products are the worst for me.

This dried me out, made my makeup flake, and exaggerated my fine lines. I tried it with three different liquid (non-matte) foundations, I tried it with and without powder, and I always used my hydrating serum and moisturizer underneath.

Same result. It was awful. I wanted to try this because I LOVE the original primer and absolutely ADORE the hydrating primer from Benefit. I was hoping this would give me a nice dewy glow while smoothing out my pores.

Yes, my pores were gone and I had a nice glow. But my makeup didn’t go on nicely at all. Overall, it may not work well for those with dry skin.

The Porefessional has a cult following for a reason. This stuff really works. The only other product that I have used that is hyper similar is Dr. Brandt Pores No More. The Porefessional Pearl is truly just like the original except has a soft pink tint.

Just adds a soft, backlit quality to the skin. I even tap some into my under eyes for a brightening effect. It’s soft and doesn’t show through foundation in any crazy way but looks like healthy skin.

Skin surface looks and feels smoother, softer , and pores are smaller after applying. This is going to work for many skin types. Mine is combination and the oil in my T Zone begins to break my makeup down after a few hours and it doesn’t look cute.

The first time I used this primer I looked at the mirror forever admiring my boss makeup. It was so together after hours of wear. I am completely in love 😍 It’s not cheap, but you won’t have to sell your smart watch for it either.

The full size has lasted me nearly six months. I have repurchased both versions but prefer the Pearl one for the soft pink glow. If you are going to try a primer, this would be the one I would recommend.

This is the best primer I have ever used. It is very light weight and a little goes a very long way. My makeup is waaaaay more smooth and way more even since I started using this primer. You would think I have started using a new foundation with the difference it has made.

It also has incredibly long lasting wear. For reasons y’all don’t need to know about (LOL) I unwillingly slept in my makeup and woke up thinking there would be foundation all over my pillowcase. To my surprise there wasn’t a drop of it anywhere on my sheets.

My face still looked fresh the next morning. I’ll obviously be washing it off and reapplying but I am impressed that it didn’t budge throughout the night! Love love love it. Would highly recommend.

This primer really helps absorb the excess oil in my T-zone. I think it does a good job of making sure I don’t get too shiny, which has caused my makeup to smear, crease, and get cakey in the past (all in my T-zone of course).

I have huge pores on my nose and cheeks, and this primer helps blur them. I like the light, smooth texture and the smell, too. You also don’t even need to use a whole lot of it for it to be effective (especially if you also use the Pro Filt’r foundation like me).

This is definitely one of the best mattifying primers I’ve ever used. I like it better than Smashbox’s oil control primer. Not only is this one less expensive, it works better! Spending less money for a superior product? Yes, please!.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about this primer! After I put on my moisturizer, I apply this before doing my makeup. It only takes two pumps and my entire face is done. (Including my under eyes and eyelids.

) I don’t need an eye primer when I wear this! I blend it in with my fingers. It has a very light, faint fragrance to it and it is super smooth. It’s not too thick or watery! It blends in really nicely and dries amazingly matte.

It doesn’t dry my face out and it hold my makeup beautifully. After doing my makeup I have a nice matte finish with the look of smooth and polished. I use this daily.

I bought the mini to see if this would work, and honestly I didn’t expect to love it, after many primers I’ve tried over the years. The look I’m going for is me, but *much better. * Less red, less texture/pores, smooth balanced skin.

But still where if you look at me closely, you ideally can’t tell I’m wearing makeup. This starts with skincare (Ordinary + its sibling brand). I’ve changed two things lately, and I don’t know which is making such an extraordinary difference (maybe both)? But I’m inclined to think this is the main reason, and the other is just icing on the cake.

I get shiny *no matter what* after some number of hours, especially easy to see in unflattering lighting and outdoors. If I wear only skincare plus this, I look like a healthy human however late in the day, not a shiny mess.

And if I wear it with makeup (a little concealer, some light serum foundation just across my cheeks, a light dusting of foundation powder over everything, maybe some light contouring, plus that one other new thing that I changed, adding Westman Atelier’s setting powder in pink).

it’s just totally next level, what I always wanted, even at age 45 now. Today for example I tried starting up my old car, and instead a light in the passenger side door burst into flame/smoke. In the hot CA heat! And when I was done dealing with that craziness, I was stunned to see I looked exactly as I had before it all happened.

i love that i got to try this primer before it launched! i had never tried anything from milk makeup and i got a very good first impression of the brand after trying this. this primer is absolutely amazing, i’m very impressed.

the primer is super lightweight, almost feels as if i’m not putting anything on my face. doesn’t feel heavy, greasy or sticky. most primers have a very silicone-y feel to them but this did not. it has a nice, smooth consistency that feels almost like a moisturizer, the texture feels nice and is very different from most primers i’ve used.

this is the most lightweight water cream formula matte primer i have ever tried. this applies on super nicely and feels soft and refreshing on my skin. it is a great base before applying my makeup. my foundation applied smoothly with no lines and wore nicely throughout the day.

i have very oily skin and this was perfect for a longer lasting makeup wear that didn’t make my skin get as oily, this is definitely great for controlling shine! this blurs and minimizes the appearance of my pores which i love! it has a nice matte finish that doesn’t look overly matte.

this has a nice, subtle, fresh and soothing scent to it that i really enjoyed! love that this primer is silicone-free, made with amazing ingredients and most importantly that didn’t break me out!.

I have extremely oily skin and the oil penetrated through everything. But this product makes my face look matte and oil free. There is some oil I won’t lie. But almost 90% of oil I have is not seen. Face feels smoother and I love this product! I would recommend this to everyone struggling with oily skin.

This is my second week using it and I absolutely would not recommend! Has a strong smell of chemicals/rubber and it doesn’t do anything to the skin. Doesn’t make it dewy or blurry like it says in the description and it doesn’t make your makeup last.
