20 Best Pre Shave Oil For Electric Shavers (2023 Updated)

I decided to try Speick because I had been using Williams Lektrik Shave for years and wanted something with a better smell, and maybe a bit less oily. Research showed that Speick and Lab Series were just about the only 2 pre-electric lotions in contention.

I’d tried Afta and really disliked it. Speick lives up to its press and others’ reviews. It is light and the fragrance is mild and pleasing. I feel no need to rinse my face after using it; the fragrance lingers for a hour or two and then fades away.

It seems to work as well as the Williams product, I have no complaints there. I like the fact that it is all (or mostly) natural. I also like the heavy glass bottle. Pricy, like the Lab stuff, but Walmart has a good price with free shipping, and I won’t be going through it very fast.

This is one of my two favourite pre-electric shave lotions. By favourite I really mean that they actually work and make shaving pleasant and easy, Others I have tried over the years are fine for about 20 seconds and then the shaver no longer glides over my skin and feels like it is stuck in mud.

I use this or my other one – Lab Series which I’ve used for over 20 years.

Used this years ago, so glad to find it at Walmart . It does a excellent job helping with my electric razor. Thanks for having it . It makes my razor shave like brand new ,

I like Lectric Shave. I have tried the store brands and they don’t measure up to Lectric Shave.

I’m satisfied with what it’s worth but I still get some razor burn so I have to combine it with cremo shave cream

I had run out of pre-shave oil months ago and just kept forgetting to order more. I had 2 of the smaller bottles and they lasted a long time. Finally last month I remembered to buy more oil and I saw the oil in the Large Pump.

2 things – 1) the pump makes this so much easier to use and you don’t need very much 2) after NOT using oil for about 5 months, after the first shave using the oil again, I wondered why I had gone so long without it.

When you rub it on your face, you really don’t feel anything, but as soon as you start shaving you notice a subtle difference. Sounds silly, but it is like magic. After shaving, I had no redness or that feeling that I might have just shaved off a layer of skin.

The difference between using the pre shave oil and not using it is subtle but a noticeable, positive difference.

I’ve been using Shave Secret for years but decided to give The Art of Shaving Sandalwood Shaving Oil a try as reviews were good and the cost per oz was less expensive than Shave Secret. The oil is much thicker than Shave Secret and I found that I need to apply with wet hands to dilute it a bit to get good coverage on my my face without using a ton.

To dispense the oil, you have to pour it from the glass bottle and have to be careful not to dispense too much. I think I’ll try transferring some of the Sandalwood oil to the Shave Secret (or other squeeze bottle) to dispense it how I prefer.

Other than the dispensing issue, I really like the oil. In my opinion, the Sandalwood scent is much better than Shave Secret and applies nicely if diluted with wet hands. I would definitely buy again.

I was never a “razor” kind of guy (whether electric or manual) as using them would wreak havoc on my face. In the past, I would suffer a plethora of unsightly ingrown hairs and razor burn by the morning following a shave, so I was reduced to using hair trimmers to keep facial hair at bay.

Being a military member and spending many days and nights in places with no or inconsistent electricity available, I became determined to figure out how to make razors work. After a year or so of research, consults, trials-and-error experiments, hours in front of mirrors, purchase/use of a variety of tweezers, etc.

, I finally found a system and products that produced decent results, caused manageable suffering, and required bearable effort without the need for electricity. After recent discover of popular, marketed shaving system that boasts of great results, I decided to implement some of its techniques and incorporate a priming (or pre-shave) oil into my regimen.

My previous regimen consisted of a shave oil (alternative to shave cream), 2 skin conditioners and a moisturizer designed to reduce/eliminate ingrown hairs, and a mixture of organic oils as a daily skin conditioner/restorer.

Normally I will have a few ingrown hairs by day 2 of shaving and they continue to increase until I remove themall and stop shaving for at least 2 days. After incorporating this pre-shave oil into my regimen, I have yet to see an ingrown hair after 5 days of use.

I’ll provide an update if anything changes, but for now. I am VERY PLEASED with this product!!!.

This is the review of the full kit. — I’ve always wanted to shave like a real man. Safety razors, straight edges, and cartridge razors are always in my shaving kit. Weather I’m trimming a beard that I have been growing for a few months, or shaving clean for that special occasion, I used the right razor for the right hairs and thought I had it figured out.

Oh how wrong I was. For starters, I used an aerosol shaving gel which foamed into a “lather” after expelling from the can. While it felt slippery enough to the touch, it always left my face feeling a little dry and irritated.

The Art of Shaving kit came to the rescue, with it’s wonderfully lubricating and conveniently whipped shaving cream. A dab of that, spread by the premium badger hair brush, left my face lubricated, moisturized, and ready to take on that blade.

Speaking of the brush, that was my second mistake. Making that foamy gel into a lather and spreading it across my beard was a task for my hands and fingers. By spreading the resulting lather by hand, like spreading butter on a toast with a butter-knife, I was unintentionally flattening all my hairs and pushing them towards my skin.

The brush gave me a whole new perspective when it comes to applying a shaving lubricant. First, it gives my face what I would describe as a mini-massage, which leaves it feeling healthier and softer; and second, it lifts those hairs off the skin, giving me a closer shave with fewer strokes.

And the perfect shaving experience is, in my opinion, dependent on the pre-shave oil. The oil softens the hairs prior to shaving, and provides additional lubrication in the act of shaving. The after shave balm is a very cool and soothing cream that finishes off the whole experience with a touch of elegance.

It leaves the skin soft and refreshed, and the sandalwood aroma is unmistakably amazing. My fiance can’t get enough of it, and to be honest, neither can I. I look forward to shaving with my Art of Shaving kit, just so I can smell that heavily sandalwood aroma.

I have very thick, curly facial hair. If not prepared well for the shave, I get lots of ingrown hairs. The Art of Shaving kit has reduced those ingrown hairs noticeably, and the occasional ingrown hair I still get is not as painful.

This result alone is worth learning to shave properly. The kit is lacking in one area, however: Directions! While it describes the basic steps and the order in which to execute them, there is no clear direction on how much of each product to use, or the proper techniques of applying each one is.

And while the kit does not include a razor, it would have been refreshing to see a simply set of directions on how to properly shave after preparing with the kit. Beyond the basic “here’s the product, it does this, apply it now,” the user is left to do further research and/or experimentation to find the perfect product volume and application techniques on their own.

Which might be a painful (and potentially expensive) journey for someone with no clear starting point. Besides that issue however, I could not find much to complain about. This kit delivers the ultimate shaving experience, and it smells amazing to boot.

I give it five smoother than a baby’s bottom faces, out of five.

I have been using Art of Shaving for over 20 years and enjoy the products. I just bought a new heated Razor and it is terrific. Nice smooth shave and very comfortable. Highly recommend. In fact bought one as a gift for a friend’s birthday.

This oil smells great and works great. The oils soften your skin, pull the hair up so you get a closer shave, and after your done shaving your skin feels great. When I used to shave with just shaving cream, my skin would feel dry, but not anymore.

I can’t recommend this product high enough! It is the best, and you will not be disappointed if you buy it! A couple notes: 1. Be sparing. For most men a dollup the size of a dime in your cupped hand should be plenty.

There should be enough to coat your whiskers but not so much that your face looks shiny. If you use no oil at all then you run the risk of irritation during shaving, if you use too much then your razor will glide over at least some of your whiskers with no friction and not cut as well.

2. There will be oily residue on your razor after you shave. You will probably want to invest in a small spray container with rubbing alcohol in it to spritz down your razor after rinsing. You should really do this anyway, it makes your razor last longer.

3. Don’t invest in this unless you are going to invest in the full wet shave experience. You’ll need a good brush (badger hair is the best), soap you can lather, and a nice after shave lotion. While you can use a traditional disposable/multi-bladed razor, I highly recommend getting a quality safety razor or a straight razor (if you’re daring).

You don’t wet shave for convenience, it’s a gourmet experience.

Lectric Shave is a very effective pre-electric lotion that gives a smooth clean shave, also saving a bit of time as it helps to give a closer and faster shave with less effort. It is non-greasy and non-messy unlike shaving oils and theres no need to wash and clean off again after shaving.

Apply and wait 15 seconds before shaving. Its one of the best that Ive used and is a fraction of the price of some others that in my opinion dont work as well. Its distinctive fragrance could be called classic or fresh and I dont mind it at all, but others might do.

The tea-tree additive works well to overcome razor rash. The clean fresh fragrance lingers a bit afterwards, but if you dont bother with aftershave then this might be a good or a bad thing. Unfortunately the labels on the bottle eventually unpeel due to the solvents used which is a bit messy, a packaging faux-pas that needs sorting out.

Other than that Im happy to recommend it, it makes a nice change and is better value than many. If in doubt try the smaller 3oz bottle first to see what you think. It works a treat, but if youre the kind who’s super-picky about fragrances this might not work for you.

The best pre electric shaving lotion. Imagine having to go to the US to buy! Why is no one stocking in the UK – missing an opening. Product excellent and delivered pretty quickly. This is the second time Ive used this Californian stockist.

Gives a smoother and quicker shave. Just a few drops is enough so it is very economical. Unfortunately not available in shops in Australia but you can get it on Ebay. I have been using it more than 30 years.

I wish they sold this in a larger bottle because I’ve really fallen in love with this prodcut. It’s helps keep my head hydrated over the winter months and has completely eliminated reshed I used to get from other brands.

My shaving experience is so much easier when I put this on compared to when. when I don’t. My head always comes out smoother when I put it on.

This has compeltely changed my shaving game. This helps the blade glide over my head and create a much closer shave.

I was forced to go online in order to purchase this as every Drug store in my area stopped stocking it due to what they say were poor sales. Anyone who still uses an electric shaver uses Williams Shave products or should.

I have been a Williams user since I turned 18 and I am 70 now. I have two electric shavers. One a regular face & beard trimmer and the other is a “Bald Head” shaver. If you shave your head,like I do,you need to use Williams before you shave as head hair is softer then facial hair and needs that extra “Williams” boost in order for the shaver to cut it.

On a 10 scale Williams products got a 12 in my book.

Afta Pre-Electric is a very effective pretreatment prior to electric shaver use. Shaving is so much quicker after use of this product The strong aroma of this product however is very strong and may not appeal to everyone.

When you enter a room after applying the product and shaving, the aroma of the product is noticeable to others. This is why I gave it 4 stars. I find the aroma very positive but strong but others may find it overpowering.

I typically wash my face with soap and water after use and there is almost no residual aroma.

My husband has used this product for years as it provides moisture to his face prior to shaving.

I first received my razor and absolutely loved it. Shortly after 30 days, the razor began to switch “on” without pressing the button (sometimes in the middle of the night). It became so common, I had to reach out for a replacement.

The FG guys sent me a new one, but a week in, this razor did the identical thing of switching on without human intervention. I had already purchased the replacement blades thinking I’d keep buying, but had to stop my subscription.

Customer service has been unresponsive to my emails, so I’m out a decent chunk of change. I wish that this product was reliable, and the customer service got me taken care of with the two ghost razors.

No so good. I received a new groomer due to my 1st groomer no able to charge. You guys sent me another groomer and now it will not charge. No I’m without a groomer once again. I’ve used the new groomer about 4 times.

Now I’m back to a razor. SMH. Should I not use it in the shower?.

I wanted to find an alternative to preshaves and shaving creams on the market as the common ones often irritated my face. The use of this Beard Oil with my electric shaver gave me a pleasant surprise.

The shave was the closest I’ve ever had with an electric. Using the Beard Oil with a blade gave the same results. It was difficult at first not having a foam to use as a guide, but being able to see where I’d been was a real plus, no multiple passes to burn my skin.

The aroma of the Beard Oil as a leave on was also a pleasant surprise. This might end up being my signature cologne! The main reason that I purchased this product is a medical one. All of my life I have had milia (“milk bumps”) on both of my cheecks under my eyes (I’m 66).

It made me very self-conscious, but my Dermatologist said that she could remove them by stripping the top layer of my skin off. So far, I’ve been using retin-A on my face for 2 months in preparation for the procedure.

Shaving with Williams Lectric Shave always burned my skin and using a foam made it difficult to shave my face without making multiple passes. I want to determine if I can shave my face right after the procedure with Beard Oil without irritation as my skin would be very sensitive.

There doesn’t seem to be any alcohol ingredients in this product to dry out and irritate my skin and that’s what I’m looking for. The skin lube and healing lotions in The Beard Oil is already making a difference.

The main thing is that my shave has improved with use of this – closer, smoother, with fewer nicks and such. The instructions on the bottle say to work in “a few drops” but for me it takes more like 5 or 6 to really be effective.

Maybe that’s just because of my Charlie Brown heard, who knows. My only negative is that the scent could be better. It’s not a “bad” scent exactly but it’s. odd and slightly off-putting. However following the shave and application of after-shave oil, there isn’t really any trace left of this pre-shave oil.

That’s a good thing because while I can put up with the smell for pre-shave purposes, if it lingered after my shave I would flat-out not use it.

I like the oil itself, it smells nice and makes the shaving process feel nicer. However, the bottle has a wide opening, which makes it hard to get out in an appropriate amount. Pouring some on a cotton pad is the best I’ve been able to do so far, but it doesn’t spread on the skin great that way.

Trying to pour a little bit right into my hand has led to big spills, and this stuff is very hard to clean up in large quantities. Would be great if it had some kind of nozzle that let it drip out in smaller quantities!.

My husband hates to shave as many men with sensitive skin do. Even with a very good German electric shaver or a new triple blade razor and good soap or shave cream, he would get razor burn virtually every time.

But since adding this pre shave oil to his routine, his break outs are half as often. He says it helps calm the painful process down quite a bit and specifically asked me to order him more when he ran out.

It is mildly and naturally scented. We highly recommend this product for various skin types.

Great product. Great smell. EZ to use! I have found most shaving creams and gels left me with razor burn and ingrowns. My wife recommended that I use a good quality hair conditioner (it works GREAT), but can be a little messy.

Enter the oils, and this product smells less “industrial” than my previous brand.

Used this with a straight razor. Applied 5 drops to beard and neck. then lathered up with shaving cream and shaved in three passes (rinsing with hot water in-between). Shave felt very comfortable. The closest shave i got with the straight razor and no irritation.

I’m giving pre-shave oil a try because pre-shave cream didn’t work for me. I wouldn’t say that I “regret” the purchase, but so far it’s not living up well to what I’d hoped. The label says that 2 pumps should give you enough oil.

That’s not proving to be accurate in my case & it’s not proving to be any easier to slide the razor through either. Like I said, I’m new to pre-shave oil, I could be doing something wrong without realizing it too.

Greatly improves my shave’s closeness and reduces burn. Does not conflict with the other scents in my soap rotation. I really like the consistency of the oil. 2 maybe 3 pumps and it’s safe gliding ahead!.

I got tired of this product not being on the shelves on my past few trips to Walmart, so I finally came home and bought it online. I’ve been using this product for many years, and I highly recommend it.

I have never had any burning, stinging or irritation on my skin when using it — and you can’t beat the price. You can’t find too many “pre-electric” shave products on the market, but I’ve never really wanted to try another brand since I’m extremely pleased with this pre-electric shave lotion.

I don’t like how I have to wait for my skin to be dry to apply this oil (as per the instructions) it makes shaving on dry, oily skin too rough. Perhaps I am not applying enough oil? I would prefer to stick with the shaving cream instead which is applied on wet skin.

I’ve been thru a couple premier pre-shave oils (including the art of shaving) and this one by far is the winner. It gives me a super close shave and my skin feels hydrated even the next morning. I will continue to buy this in the future.

Brickell makes amazing products all around.

I don’t have a lot of experience with pre-shave oils and cream but have tried about 3-4 others. This is my favourite. The viscosity of this oils is a little thinner than a previous oil I tried and I prefer this.

A smaller amount can spread further on your skin. For me it has been the best at making my shave easier and thus less irritation on my sensitive skin. I really like the scent too.

I like using this oil. There is no fragrance, which is how I like it. it’s much easier on my sensitive eyes. I only use five drops, and that is sufficient to create a smooth glide over the skin. I get a closer shave when I use this oil before I apply the shave foam, versus just the foam on its own.

I’m happy.

So I bought this and was pleasantly surprised by how much is in the bottle. Has a medicinal type of scent, and you really only require two or three small drops. I do like a pre-shave oil when using a hard soap.

If you are using a high quality cream you will learn that they can stand alone. Hard soap lather used with this product will give a nice glide for the first pass, it is not as slick for the second as the soap and blade will have removed the majority of the oil from the skin.

Wet your face again and soap up, the remaining oil should be enough to offer some lubrication, but keep in mind this is good for your skin on the initial application. Also do not use too much as I have been advised it can harm a brush, this has not been the case from my experience, but again use only two or three drops and massage it into your skin prior to loading up your brush with a hard soap.

I have used this product for several weeks now, it lasts a good long time and gives a very smooth, comfortable shave. A little goes a long way and it lathers up really well.

I bought Black Beards Revenge shaving cream. after sitting on the shelf for 2 weeks it started to leak lot of clear fluid the stained the shelf. This didn’t happen when I bought it several times direct from the company.

Incredibly effective and only requires ‘one pump’ of oil before lathering. Beautiful in that it enables me to even feel all bristle being severed in one stroke. Skin is so comfortable on completion as there is no oily residue which is really appreciated on sensitive skin.

Great product and quality. Only a small amount required to ensure a smooth shave so it will last a long time. Soothe into the skin and then go about your regal shave routine.
