20 Best Point And Shoot Camera Under $500 (2023 Updated)

I already have one of these which has and is giving great service for approaching 5 years. I bought it as an easy point and shoot for walking and travel trips but dig a bit deeper and the potential of this camera is just amazing and will suit more experienced photographers just as well.

So I bought another as a back up because into the future this camera is that good and so flexible that it just suits my needs when my Canon 5D Mk ii is simply impractical. The Leica lens along with the very good image stabilising ensures sharp results when hand holding.

The low light performance is managed excellently and there are a vast range of options to be creative should the user want to experiment. The optical zoom range along with the digital zoom is more than enough and the full range sensor is amazing at this price point which allows JPEG and RAW shots for full processing.

I would recommend the Alexander S White guide “Getting The Most From Panasonic’s Advanced Compact Camera” but if you just want quality results allowing the camera to do all the work this little unit will perform and delight.

The only down side is perhaps that the camera is not weatherproof so a good case should be considered essential kit. It fits your pocket easily and I can’t recommend it highly enough, it is an excellent camera and well worth a 5 star rating.

Im using this camera to capture special images at this time. The images are clear, especially when using the zoom facility. My mobile phone captures images well but when needing to use the zoom the image is blurred.

This camera is easy to carry around as it can be slipped into a jacket pocket. A case to protect it is a good idea, there isnt one provided. The camera is heavier than I was expecting, but not very heavy, and I have attached a neck strap for ease to use and to carry in the summer.

It has the added benefit of helping to keep the camera safe. There are many settings Ive yet to use but its good to know theyre there when the occasion arises.

Love this TZ95. I bought this mainly for the larger processor than my TZ70. It is quite sophisticated and a bit difficult to get your head round all the various functions but once there it is quite intuitive.

As always the Leica lens quality is superb. It is a bit bulkier than the TZ 70. and a new case was required. It took some time and a couple of tries to get a good easy access fit with a separate front storage compartment for 2 spare batteries which are quite chunky.

I particularly like the 180 degree tilt and touch screen and the display for choosing programmes in Scene mode A full manual would have been a bonus as the download is 341 pages therefore too expensive to print.

I would have paid an extra £10 for a full manual.

The ZS60 is an awesome camera. It is suitable for the user who wants just point and shoot, and for a user like me who wants more control over exposure and focus conditions. While the camera itself is fantastic and produces excellent image quality in both still and movie modes, the instruction manual is one of the poorest I’ve ever encountered.

It is virtually impossible to follow instructions on how to do something with this camera. Luckily, Panasonic customer support is very good. They pick up quickly and the support people are generally very good.

I’ve called them endless times when the instructions in the manual were unintelligible, and they patiently led me through the procedures. One of the most impressive features of this camera is its ability to zoom and do macro photography.

It provides optical zoom up to 600 mm and then a digital zoom increase up to about 720 mm. With 18 Pixels to play with you don’t lose much quality! The macro setting lets you take stills or videos as close as 5 cm from your subject.

Amazing!.

This is a decent camera. One of the features I liked was the 10 second timer. It helped out a lot for some group pictures which was the main reason for getting the camera. My only complaints are: -This camera is very small which makes it harder to hold.

I have pretty small hands so if you are not a petite person, you may have difficulty holding it. -The screen on the back makes it look like the picture quality is terrible. I ended up taking way more pictures than needed.

Once you pull the pictures up on your computer, you see that the quality is as you would expect from a 20mp camera.

I bought this Canon camera because I’ve had a lot of trouble with the previous 3 Sony Cybershots I’ve owned and Sony has failed to repair them; luckily, I bought Wal-Mart’s extended warranty and they were fast and great about immediately refunding me.

So, I decided to go a different route and buy a Canon. I’ve owned the Canon EOS DSLR cameras before, as I am an amateur photographer. I had this camera shipped to my local store and picked it up the next day.

The first thing I noticed upon removing the camera from the box is that it had been used before. The battery was in the camera instead of in its separate packaging and there were fingerprints completely covering the LCD screen.

It was either refurbished (it was listed online as NEW) or it had been used as a display model. So, getting past that, I tested all the settings and was impressed with the quality of night/dark photos I took (using a tripod).

I like the different options like fisheye and miniature, which I’ve never seen on a camera before. I really tried to like this camera, I really did. But what made me return it was that after each picture is taken, the camera is “busy” for 30 seconds of so.

You can still take photos during this time, but if you turn the camera off (which I do to save battery life), the picture will not record onto the SD card and when you go to upload it onto your computer, it won’t be there.

However, if you take a video, the camera is “busy” for several MINUTES and completely unusable – the zoom won’t work, you cannot take other videos or photos while the camera is “busy” recording the video onto the memory card.

This is unacceptable to me, as we are a very active family and I need full use of my camera at all times. I don’t want to miss moments because my camera is “busy” recording the video I took 2 minutes prior and I can’t take any other pictures.

Canon needs to figure this out!.

Good camera, Meets amateurs needs. My wife shoots professionally and she says its a good camera for a person that wants to upgrade to a camera that has a lot to offer. She shoots with $1000. 00 lenses.

I brought my granddaughter and wife to shoots pictures of homes decorated with Christmas light. In my opinion I was surprised how the two camera’s diid against each other. Buy one, you won’t be sorry.

Forget adding a high power long telephoto to your DSLR. I have two Canon DSLRs that I love and wanted a high power tele for wildlife photos. Having owned a half dozen Canon point and shoot digitals, I decided that a 50x optical tele point and shoot was way more useable than a 2 foot long 1.

5 pound tele and tripod on my DSLRs, and at 1/2 the cost. I wasn’t wrong. Fabulous birding camera; astounding images at full tele. Price was great.

As well as this camera I have a Canon EOS 350D which is a very good camera. I also have four heavy interchangeable lenses for this camera which range from 18mm to 200mm. This camera with its small weight goes from 25mm to 625mm without the need (or possibility) to change lenses.

The image quality at 20 MP is of course outstanding. There are things that you can do with an EOS that you can’t do with this camera like manual control of aperture and exposure time, exposure bracketing and the fitting of filters etc at the front of the lens but for a point-and-shoot camera with limited control over the results, this little fit-into-a-shirt-pocket camera is outstanding.

The seller was helpful. The Cannon SX620 came in Japanese. I did have some trouble changing it to English, I was lucky I had a power USB cord to fit the camera. The pictures from the camera are sharp and clear and I will be able to use this camera.

I would like the instruction manual in English! I will be able to use this camera. It is compact, and easy to carry around. The price was very good.

Very pleased with this camera which takes good photos. It is very compact and light so ideal for carrying around when hiking. The ‘free’ case is poor but it fits very nicely in the Lowepro Tahoe CS10 camera case which is worth buying separately for more protection.

The the lack of written instructions contrasts with the over-long 157 page online manual which is excessive for a ‘simple’ camera. That said, most controls are easy to use if you have had a similar compact camera before – even a different make – although some of the functions are a bit of a gimmick.

Such as the ‘wink mode’ where it takes a photo 2 seconds after you wink. But this only works fairly close up – and then not reliably. The similar ‘smile’ mode is also not very useful in practice – you end up with artificial grins.

But the adjustable shutter delay of up to 30 seconds is genuinely useful if you find the standard 10 seconds not enough. The camera menus take a bit of getting used to – they are initially rather confusing.

A common issue with many cameras is difficulty in connecting them wirelessly to a computer. This seems to be either very easy or impossible. I have not even bothered to try – it is easier to take the SDHC card out and put it in the slot on the computer.

Or use a USB lead – note that one is not supplied and you need the right type – I needed a different one to my old Panasonic. I can transfer all photos to my computer in less than a minute so why use wireless, which will probably take longer? OK, you may want to use wireless functionality to transfer to other devices or be ‘terribly modern’ but it is not essential and may well be slower than good old-fashioned wires.

Only had camera a month so cannot comment on durability.

Pros: I like the shape of it, it fits easily in the pocket, it’s not as square-edged as other cameras I’ve had. I like the way it focusses and picks up on faces. It’s easy and quick to use to take a photograph which is what it’s all about.

It was easy to set up the date and time. Cons: I find that it’s reactions to requests is slower than other cameras I’ve had and it comes up with a ‘busy’ icon as if it’s having a hissy fit about being asked to do something such as show me my pictures.

I was disappointed that I have to take out the battery and put it in a charger – this seemed like a backward step to me, my previous camera could be charged via 3 pin plug or USB port without taking out the battery and this one didn’t come with a USB lead so that it could also be charged from a USB port without having to take out the battery.

I didn’t know this when I bought it because they didn’t have any in the shop, the shop had to order it for me and I had it delivered to my home address.

I got this camera in advance of a family trip out of the country. In the past, I’d simply whip out the cell and snap away as it was conveniently always with me anyway; plus I had the added benefit of the pics being immediately backed up in the cloud.

But the phone’s getting older and I’m not getting the battery life (or storage) I once got out of it, so this camera was meant to lightened the load. Shutter response is slow. from what I’ve read it’s not a design flaw, that’s just the way it focuses.

but nonetheless a bit of an annoyance when trying to take quick shots. Also, consistent with other reviews I read BEFORE purchasing, it doesn’t do the greatest in low-light conditions. this is really where my cell out shined this camera.

At this price point, I would have expected better low-light photos. Even playing around with the scenes, etc didn’t seem to make much difference. Works well in outdoor/sunlight environments, but if you take most of your shots indoors you may want to consider another option.

Getting to some of the options like flash on/off, scene settings, and toggling between views was a bit cumbersome also compared to even similar cameras I’ve owned in this class. I should point out that I’m a recreational photographer with two high-end Nikon DSLR’s so I’m accustom to a certain level of performance.

This camera might be okay for the average person to take on the weekend trip, but definitely not going to be my go-to camera for any event that I’m serious about preserving. Again, sad, because I was hoping it would also be an alternative to lugging the DSLR to my kid’s soccer game or a family birthday party.

Amazing camera, solid rugged and compact with GPS/compass/altimeter. Easy to use! literally pointed and shot. I liked the latitude of ISO which allows decent low light shots. And video worked well too.

These are not cheap, but they come the closest to a big SLR that you will ever find, plus they are water-resistant to quite a depth. This is my favorite vacation, take-anywhere camera.

This is our second time purchasing this camera, we mostly use it scuba diving as it goes to 100 feet deep. Our first one flooded after 5 years of abusing it. Likely would last longer if we didn’t throw it around.

This model feels a lot lighter then the original one we had. Takes great photos, the ability to send images via WIFI to my smart phone is so convenient. Video looks good too. So easy to use. I can also use it to determine my depth underwater.

Its like owning a smart phone that is actually waterproof. We have fun taking pictures at the beach and in the pool. Pricing is cheaper now then 5 years ago. After we bash this one around we will probably buy the same camera again.

Although this camera is aimed at divers and underwater use, that is not my intent with this camera. I am a kayaker who wants to be able to take high quality photos from my boat and not worry about the camera getting wet.

This camera allows me to do that with ease. I am not afraid to let it sit in the bottom of my kayak with water splashing on it all day. I sometimes do submerge it to take an underwater photo too. Overall, I am very happy with this camera.

Plus, now that I use this instead of my iPhone, I wouldnt panic as much if I accidentally drop it in deep water.

I,m a pro photographer and spend most of my time lugging heavy equipment about, I bought a fuji xpro1 also, but I wanted a camera you can just shove in your pocket and take any where. After doing a lot of research I opted for the canon s120, its small but has full manual control, without having to go into the menu to access the options, every thing you need can be customised to the outside dials and buttons.

One of the main reasons I picked the s120 was noise control which is excellent on a camera with such a small sensor, picture quality and sharpness very good. However there are a few negatives, one of which is battery life, very poor, for this reason I bought 2extra non canon ones, much cheaper.

Also there is a fault with the camera that many people are experiencing, and this is when using video on a full battery the battery may show no power and the camera switches off, this has happened to me a few times.

When video is working correctly it runs very smoothly with the optional 60 fps. There is a dial around the lens that you can allocare to many functions, I have mine set to aperture, then use a dial at the back for shutter, another button for iso and the record button for white balance, so it is a nice camera to use for speed of use if you like manual mode as I do.

My only wish is that I would like a viewfinder, as it steadies the camera causing less blurr. As for the price, well I bought mine second hand ex display, but a full priced model is way overpriced considering you can buy a low end dslr for the same money.

This is an excellent little camera but if you use a lot of the video mode I would waite for the next model which I beleive is coming soon and maybe the battery problem is rectified. Each s series canon has had a problem the main one being a lens error, causing a whole load being sent back to canon.

Superb little compact, the S120 is a worthy evolutionary product in the PowerShot Sxxx family. The Digic6 sensor is sensational, providing reasonably sharp pictures with superior color interpretation.

The one drawback, and in my personal situation, it’s a biggie, is that there is no CHDK for the new Digic6 sensor in any Canon. Specifically, I needed the ability to do time-lapse photos, and it’s not in the feature set, and many times only available through the CHDK.

If you don’t know what CHDK means, or don’t need that still time-lapse ability then this little Canon is brilliant. If you find a deal of any kind, snatch it up.

This is my 3rd S120. Lost the previous 1st and 2nd to not checking for grit on the o-ring of the underwater case. I use this camera ALMOST exclusively for photos while scuba diving. It takes great pictures! You.

It allows me to take pictures in RAW format. “Land” pictures are also of good quality. Video is good but the battery depletes quickly.

I purchased this camera to film my workouts for my clients who train virtually with me, and to take photos for my fitness pages (I’m a personal trainer). I had been using my iPhone camera but I needed an alternative to free up storage on my phone and synced devices, and I also just wanted a decent camera for travel purposes.

After reading the reviews (which were mostly positive), I decided to go with the Coolpix B600. The max video recording time is only 29 minutes which is plenty, but the quality is absolutely horrible.

I have tried different settings, adjustments, lighting, etc. , and the videos are blurry, dark and hard to capture stills from. The only decent quality PICTURE I can take is when the flash is on and the camera is in a specific mode (don’t know which one exactly).

Taking a picture with AUTO setting? Forget it. I’m going to keep it just to have a camera around and to avoid the hassle of returning it, but I regret buying this model. I don’t need anything fancy for what I’m trying to do, but for a Nikon product, the quality is completely unimpressive.

Additionally, the feature to connect the camera to your mobile device via the SnapBridge app is useless. I have no problem syncing the camera to my phone, but I cannot download ANY videos once the media has been transferred into the app’s library for you to download onto your phone.

I ended up purchasing a card reader for the SD card (bought separately) to hook into my MacBook so I can view my videos that way. Since purchasing this camera I have not been able to use ANY footage for my fitness training business.

I have plenty of editing applications and even that doesn’t help. I’m sure the first flip phone with a camera would take better photo and video than this camera. Do yourself a favor and spend a little extra on a quality camera.

This one isn’t it.

I’m still learning the settings on this camera but haven’t been too impressed with the color quality or the crispness of the details. Some photos look very blurry when the focus was set. It doesn’t appear to be a great low light camera.

The battery life doesn’t seem to last too long and a few times, after turning off the camera, the power button remains lit. I’ve had to take the batteries out to make sure they don’t get drained. Action shots many times appear blurry and there is no manual setting on the camera.

I’ve also had syncing issues with connecting the camera to my Smart device. I’ve only been able to sync a few times. For the cost, I wish I would’ve spent more on a different camera. I do like the zoom capability and have been able to take a few good pictures of things in the distance but I’m struggling with the camera not always focusing on what I am zoomed in on.

I bought a black A1000 online, just a few days before a holiday trip abroad. There was no stock in my local stores. I chose this Nikon model based on its spec and peer reviews. Once I’d charged the battery I tested the camera and within a few minutes one of the fan blades over the shutter had become disengaged and jammed, leaving the lens half covered and the camera useless.

It would have been a disaster if this had happened on day 1 of my trip to Costa Rica. I was able to return the camera the next day. I also noted that the pop up flash attachment was on a thin plastic arm that would be very easy to break, and in addition the friction switch holding the flap covering the battery and SD card at the bottom of the camera was loose – the flap just fell open (downwards) at the slightest touch.

It needed sticky tape to hold it closed. Hence I have to conclude that this Nikon model was astonishingly flimsy and not at all what I expected from a top brand. The box that the camera arrived in looked as if it might have been re-sealed, leaving me wondering if JL had sent me an ex-display model, as I can’t believe that Nikon would have shipped a camera with so many obvious defects.

I have owned several of these that I traveled with. The camera has fairly sturdy and is easy to pack. I like the focal length, the wide ISO range and ring functions. I traveled by motorcycle so small size and durability are important.

I also would visit churches and museums that were poorly lit so ISO range became important. A very good all-round camera.

The Canon S110 is a great pocket camera that takes outstanding pictures (with caveats) for the form factor that it is. It is not a Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera but what it does, it does pretty well.

Within the point n shoot class of cameras it does a great many thing very well. In order to maintain the relative small size the designers have had to remove some features in order to design in new ones.

S90 – CCD sensor, etc. S95 – f1:2. 0 lens, zoom lens 3. 8, Digic 4 processor, 10 megapixel CCD sensor S100 – GPS, ridge on the front & rear of camera, Digic 5 processor, 12. 1 megaixel CMOS sensor, S110 – WiFi, touch screen, 12.

1 megaixel CMOS sensor, a better ridge on the rear, ridge absent in the front, f1:2. 0 lens, zoom lens 5x S120 – f1:1. 8 lens, touch screen, Digic 6 processor (newer/faster image processor) Pro – Small size – Light weight – solid build – photo quality is good not superb.

– Feature rich – can control exposure a great more than with other similar cameras in the same class. – front surface is rough/not smooth in order to maintain better hold of camera. – Rear of camera – there is a ridge for one thumb to rest against (right handed person) previous camera do not have this and if you are holding the camera for any length of time ones thumb can really cramp up.

– Will create RAW files – Recognizing finger activity/motion on the touch screen is very good. Con – The one thing that I would mention up front: If you are a DSLR or a former FSLR user do not expect to get the same response w/r/t the camera taking the picture when you the operator press the shutter button.

There will be a (shutter lag) delay of approx. 0. 5sec so if you are looking to take sports pictures I would not consider these types of cameras. – Battery life can be rather short depending what options the user has activated.

ex. flash, rear display for long periods of time, display brightness, etc. – If you have big hands/fingers this camera might not be for you. Reason is that you might be prone to touching the buttons on the rear of the camera & activate processes/functions that you the user did not intend to.

– The WiFi connection is poorly implemented. Not easy for a user to connect to another device, for me a disappointment. Notes: – I have a Canon S95 which I find to be a slightly better low light camera w/r/t picture quality.

I am not sure if it is because it has a CCD in the S95 as opposed to the CMOS device in the S110, or the image processor/processing, (hardware/software). – Autofocus performance has improved over the previous models, – Photographers whoenlarge or heavily crop their photos will likely want to pay more for something like the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 which has a much larger sensor which results in superior quality photos.

– small on/off button smaller than S95 & S100 – buy spare batteries.

This is one of only a few small point and shoots that are fast enough to keep up with a 2 year old. I usually use my Nikon D7000 with various fast lenses to do the shoots but this does video much better and is unobtrusive.

It is not as fast as a DSLR but it is much faster than your typical $200 camera. It looks good at ISO 1600 and great at 400 and lower. Very few small cameras do as well at ISO above 400 due to the tiny sensor and tiny sensors don’t get much light compared to larger sensor DSLRs.

I bought one for my Mother new at x-mas and got one used for myself as a second camera when my big DSLR is too much. I take this out to restaurants and get great baby pics while she is interacting with others around her.

My DSLR is too big to take along and my 8mp phone camera is so much noisier at even ISO 100 than this is at ISO 1600 plus the Cannon is great with the color rendition and fill flash when needed. I don’t need the flash with this in restaurants but do with my phone camera.

It does not have a super zoom like others but for every day shots, F2. 0 at wide angle is great for low light shoots. The newer S120 is 1/2 stop better at F1. 8 but is way more money. This is a great all around camera if you can afford it.

I use a 64gb sd card and can record several hours at 720P 30fps plus takes 1000 pics. The video keeps the brightness pretty consistent with changing light and the stereo mic works pretty well. It is slightly lower than I would like but enough for all the audio to be heard.

Unbelievable photos! The camera is a very small package for aps-c stabilized hardware with a decent in camera raw editor. The f2. 8 seems unimpressive on paper but these optics are amazing. I had reservations about not having a flash but the low light performance is bonkers.

The (P)rogram mode comes set up for automatic shooting that takes near perfect pictures in anybody’s hand. The (M)anual mode can be set up to give full control. There are 3 (U)ser modes that can be set up with blended features and operating modes.

This thing takes the fastest pictures out of the pocket. It’s very quiet. It can be used discretely. The pictures are beautiful. The camera can be used to take professional quality photos. It feels sturdy, and the ergonomics are very good, the controls are simple and minimal.

The wireless connectivity is OK and offers some useful features like live view and some controls. The camera is not cheap, and neither are accessories. The camera is on the larger side of what I would consider pocketable.

Not having a viewfinder is something you have to adjust to. The battery is tiny and expensive and it’s life can be pretty disappointing when shooting a lot, this can be counteracted by disabling ibis and shooting with the display off when in P mode in brighter situations, otherwise carrying an extra battery on longer days can be a lifesaver.

Using any wireless features will drain the battery quite a bit. Overall this camera is not perfect, however it is really the only camera that is in this category, if you want big camera hardware in your pocket, this is the closest that I can find.

Ricoh put great tech into this camera.

I bought this from JL and have used it for a week before returning it. Firstly, the photographs it takes are very good – great colour rendition, they are ‘punchy’ with more detail. However, It’s a 20 Mpixel 1″ sensor so for all those pixels you’d expect clarity, which you get but not ‘that’ much better.

The pictures are let down by the lens, which should be fast at 1. 7 but the results are not so hot. There is quite a lot of blurring around the peripheral areas of the the lens at wide open, several photos at some focal length showed fringing from the barrel – cutting off the corners of the picture.

For me though, the worst was the abysmal RAW shooting which can barely do 1 frame without stopping. That is not acceptable under any circumstances, and Canon were wrong to put this camera out with this defect.

Jpeg work fine but I felt that there was a little to much extra processing by the camera. The focusing was also frustrating. It is only contrast detection – not phase detection and was definitely slow and confused – you did not feel in control of the camera i.

e. , you could not be sure whether your pics were going to be any good. This made using the camera a cross your fingers exercise, which should not be the case. The remote control point on the camera is the basic cord release (why?) but you can use a remote connection via your Android device – I think that is still a bit limiting.

The battery is just plain pathetically small, luckily you can use your phone charger but that’s not really the point is it? Other than that, the camera is beautifully built and I wish all cameras used the fully articulated viewing screen.

So for the money – nearly £600 I think Canon should have done a lot better job. You don’t push a half finished product out to the market if you’re a market leader.

This may not be the most current version, but frankly it’s pretty amazing. The picture quality is outstanding — great resolution, easy and accurate focusing, and all all of the manual AND automatic controls you could ever want in a semi-pro camera.

I have this and the later version (the G5X ii) and truthfully there are things about the older one, the G5X, that I like better. Like the hot-shoe on the top, the always present viewfinder, and additional wheels for various adjustments.

Sure, there are things that are better in the ii version, such as 4K video, burst mode and the relative level of maturity of some of the on-screen presentations. For me it’s pretty minor, and I’d be happy with either one.

Canon– NICE JOB!.

I have owned the Canon G5X for about a month now. It is a great camera and takes great shots. But it is heavier than I thought and due to the viewfinder sticking out a lot it is hard to find a decent reasonably sized pouch and doesn’t easily fit in the pants or jacket pocket.

The viewfinder which was the main reason I bought the G5X and not the G7x. However my main complaint now is that after only a month the shutter cover has jammed. Obviously I must have damaged it when it was in my coat pocket on Friday night after I took some photos.

I realise this is a simple fix and affects most digital cameras, but it is under warranty, so a bit of a hassle getting it fixed properly. Surely a camera designed to be put in your pocket or a handbag should have a decent lens protection system.

It the lens cover is that fragile, then they should provide an old fashioned lens cap or make the cover more robust. Very annoying and for a camera with a RRP of nearly $1k this is not good enough.

As I advanced into Senior Citizen status, my daily carry camera of a Canon 5D/70-200L combo became more and more burdensome. , until I stopped carrying altogether for some years. Missing photography, I rented the G5X2 to see if it could fill the void.

Short answer is: Yes. and. No. What Canon has done with this unit is truly remarkable, To have this much power and capability in this form factor is definitely 5 stars! The letdown is not the camera but me.

The size of the lettering on the controls straddles the border of unusable for my eyes and my fingers are too large for easy manipulation of the touchscreen controls. I truly marveled at this much power/quality literally in the palm of my hand,, but I have begun shouldering around my 5D/70-200 again.

because I, personally, struggled a touch in using it. Certainly not Canon”s fault. I blame Father Time. If you’re a Canon user, you’ll feel right at home in the menus. If not, do yourself a favor and RTFM.

Pros: Much more intuitive controls than previous compacts. F1. 8 -f2. 8 lense on a compact: wow! Viewfinder option is brilliant for bright light and contra-jour and diopter adjustment is great. On screen touch display is good and not too intrusive.

Menus are easy to navigate. Only had the camera for 2 weeks but I’m very pleased with my choice so far. I rarely shoot videos, but the brief ones I’ve done look good. Cons: Shutter speed dial is a little fiddly (especially with gloves).

Pop up viewfinder feels a little vulnerable. These should not be dealbreakers. Possibly improve sound on video, but I use it mostly for stills.

Great straightforward point and shoot, for vacations and anyone interested in good photos without much fuss this is a great option. The connectivity to smart devices is complicated, but this is true of all Nikon products and there are lots of helpful YouTube videos out there.

There is very little functionality if you’re used to using manual settings on something like a DSLR, but it’s a point and shoot so that’s the point! Lightweight, comfortable buttons and grip, tripod/gimbal compatible.

This camera was bought as a replacement for the Nikon COOLPIX P510. As such, the camera works just as reliably as the old one, but it does have a few differences that I appreciate as newer technology.

The newer tech, however, just doesn’t perform as good as the old, and, doesn’t have the “feel” of quality (weight, lens movement, etc. ) as the old one. The older P510 has held up under extreme conditions on many vacations, work related environments, and general hobby type photography for about 10yrs.

While I have high hopes that this new COOLPIX B500 will perform at the same level, for as many years, I do have doubts (just based on my early experience with it on vacation and hobby photography). Time will tell.

Beyond my early concerns regarding quality issues (“feels” cheap, lens movement is slower, auto focus has a hard time locking on subject, optical zoom is lower/not as clear and image stabilizer seems less able than the older one), the camera does have many positive reviews and is consider by many hobbyist type photographers, like myself, to be a good quality/bang for your buck “choice” for replacing an older, nearly worn out version of the COOLPIX line.

Camera was returned as it had no view finder to look through. Therefore no mirror system. Missed that when buying this camera for my kid. Not Best Buy’s fault. This camera only has a view screen to frame an image before taking the picture.

For that kind of photography we can use our smart phones. Don’t need this kind of camera! Returned the camera unused and in original package. Got my full refund. Shame on Nikon! Got another brand Digital SLR camera, which was not available at the same price at Best Buy, at another store.

View finder, mirror, quality camera. A real digital, professional SLR. Not like the bad joke this Nikon camera was. Always used to like Nike, but….

If you want great, photos, don’t fool around; go NIKON! As a retired pro photographer, I am quite familiar with NIKON products. Nothing beats them. So when my very well loved point-and-shoot mini Nikon camera died of battery corrosion, I had to find another travel camera.

I travel a lot and must have a camera that runs on AA batteries, which available worldwide. The Coolpix B500 is the last of the AA cameras available. It is very versatile and fits the hand nicely. Performance is superb and the zoom range is impressive.

Due to the chip shortage, you may have trouble finding a new one in a store. Get a “refurbished” one if you can. You can trust Nikon to provide you with a good-as-new camera at a discounted price. I was at the Los Angles Zoo recently and counted three other B500 cameras in use on a very hot and low attendance day.

I just want to say I LOVE this camera. It takes nice pictures or at least to my liking. I have noticed some people prefer HD and very detailed pictures but I think that’s really asking for way too much.

I’m 19 and I was a little embarrassed to get the camera at first because a lot of other reviews said “it’s great for children” LOLL but I just needed something to take pictures when I’m with a friend or family events.

I have a DSLR Canon Rebel EOS T5 and it’s too much for me with all the different modes. This camera right here though, I didn’t have to do too much to the settings and It takes the pictures. The quality is so pleasing to me especially after I get them printed.

It gives me early 2000’s vibes. On a downside I’m not sure if it’s just with my camera but It makes a weird clicking noise when I take videos. Its a tolerable subtle noise all through out the video but you can hear or at least for me.

I also love the design it’s interface isn’t weirdly designed like some other digital cameras. It’s very tiny and fits in my hand (I’m 5’5) and I have medium sized hands. I’m going to continue using this for vlogs, my hair journey, and as I said before family events.

The only thing I wished they added to this was array of other QUALITY colors. I chose black because Its the perfect choice when you have to decide on silver or white. The price is pretty worth it although I saw some other off brand digital cameras with higher optic.

zoom , other specs etc. etc. for around $50-60 but I’m very content with this purchase and if this utterly breaks I’m getting the same exact one if they don’t discontinue it or anything. So if your looking to shoot pictures with the quality being almost identical to real life then expect to spend around $700-1000 on a professional camera.

I did a lot of research on camera’s (not to be that kind of bragger loll) but just know if you’re buying a canon camera for $500 they are just taking your money at that point. You can use this camera and maybe do some editing and you got a professional shot already.

Also I would add pictures but I don’t take nature pictures its usually just pictures of me and friends and I’m not comfortable sharing them to the outside world but if i snap some shots of flowers i will add them if the review section lets me update my review after I had posted it.

Bought this for our 10yo daughter for our first family vacation since Covid started. Camera was defective. If you turned it on WITH an SD Card inserted, the lens would extend halfway, the screen would flash for a second, and then the camera would shut off.

After removing the SD card and the battery, reinserting the battery, and turning the camera on WITHOUT the SD Card, it would turn on fine. If I inserted the SD Card then, after the camera was on, it functioned normally.

However, every time I tried turning it on with an SD Card inside, the camera would freeze again. I tried it with two different SD Cards. Same result. No SD Card? Starts fine. With SD Card? Freezes. It was a completely repeatable error.

Clearly, this is unacceptable, and back to the store it went. Our daughter had no camera for our trip, as there were none available locally and we were leaving two days later. Terrible. Sucks, because the photos and features were otherwise acceptable.

Ok so I don’t know where I would be without this camera. I use this camera every single day without fail and have done for the last year and a bit that I’ve had it. I do YouTube videos so I really do get hell of a lot of use out of this camera.

It’s perfect! I really wanted the g7x as that seemed to be the most popular ‘vlogging’ camera and I really wanted a camera with a flip screen but the g7x is way out of my price range so I decided to go with this one as it’s about half the price and I’m glad I did.

This camera does absolutely everything I want and more, I regularly get comments asking about my camera and people telling me how much they love the quality of my videos. It’s fantastic and I couldn’t recommended it enough.

It’s easy to use, good quality and it’s just all round perfect. When this one eventually breaks I will without a shadow of a doubt be purchasing another one, but we are a year and a bit down the line and no signs of it breaking yet which I’m amazed about considering how much I use it.

If you’re looking for a budget friendly vlogging camera then you will be so happy with this one, I promise you that!.

I do really like this camera, it takes great pictures in good lighting and I’m trying to learn how to take pictures of moving objects with the manual and semi manual settings and that works well. in good light.

I am just learning how to use manual settings so it could definitely be user error but low light pictures come out very blurry. Not always with the auto settings though. And if I do use the flash in low light it takes great pictures but I don’t always feel like it’s dark enough that I should need the flash.

The optical zoom is great, by far the best I’ve had in a camera. I wanted a point and shoot camera but I also wanted more optical zoom and some useful manual settings. I feel like this camera is a good option for someone who doesn’t want a bigger dslr camera but still wants some of the useful manual settings.

Fed up with carting around a big SLR and several lenses I wanted a camera I could put in my pocket with greater ability to shoot a range of options than my iPhone10. This camera has more than fulfilled my expectations.

Resolution and performance in low light are as good or better than the phone but the stunning feature is the optical zoom which is as good as my long telephoto for the SLR. Now I can get bird shots without carrying all the kit.

It has all the features you might expect on a phone camera but allows you to shoot in RAW in case you want to play with the pictures later and it has wireless connectivity to upload pictures. A recent weekend in Lisbon confirmed its range of ability with low light shots in dark churches coming out very well.

There’s an excellent manual online (much more accessible than previous Canon manuals). I’m very pleased with it. Brilliant.

What a shame the only other reviewer on this site received a faulty unit. I have had a GRii for a few years and whilst I loved the small size, portability, ease of use and of course the snap focus I never warmed to it.

The 28mm focal length is not my favourite, however I am prepared to overlook this and learn for the right camera, and the image quality failed to work for me. I had seen awesome images captured with the GRii but I just couldn’t make it work.

When the GRiiiX was announced I immediately knew I wanted one. The 40mm FOV suits me more, the increase in sensor size (and I hoped image quality) was IMHO definitely needed and the small size, great portability and looking more like a toy camera than a serious bit of photography equipment made me part with my hard earned money.

The GRiiiX is everything I hoped it would be and more. It is smaller (only just but smaller nonetheless) than the GRii, the lens is super sharp with awesome image quality, the close up and macro ability is fantastic, it is fully customisable and easy to use, the touch screen focus and shoot options increase the versatility, and that snap focus.

The GRiiiX is head and shoulders above the GRii in all respects. I can’t deny that the battery life is poor but the batteries are so small and cheap it really doesn’t matter. Just buy a few, charge them up and chuck them in a pocket until needed.

The lens cover appears fragile to me, just like it is on the GRii, but I have purchased a metal cap to put over the lens for the times when I am not shooting with it. The lens cap was £15, which is quite expensive for what it is but then the GRiiiX is not a cheap camera so it is worth buying.

For a small, stealthy and pocketable snap shooter you can have on you all the time there really is no alternative. The GRiiiX isn’t cheap but then it is a serious photography tool.

his is a good little camera for the family. It fits easily in a pocket, light for kids to handle, it’s simple enough for them to use (on auto) and get them to enjoy taking pictures during our outings, yet it has many featues we, adults, can use to have a little more control.

I am in no way expert, but I did appreciate the zoom and the option to keep the camera either on auto, or on any mode it offers, which offers more freedom. The zoom is powerful, but seems to give less than sharp images when used to its fullest.

The camera comes with a menu that displays on the camera’s screen, which allows you to play with all the different settings, and there are quiet a few. You can take selfies, which my kids discovered first.

We don’t have a need to transfer the pictures to our phone, but it is an option if needed, and easy to set up from the camera. I was surprised to realize, only after a few weeks, that this camera has no viewfinder, which I obviously didn’t miss.

It did not come with a cable to connect to a laptop or comptuer, nor did it come with a card. Just things to know.

This is a good camera. I have a lumix fz80 and bought this as necessary backup. It does the job right. It’s a point and shoot and the pictures do look great. Pros: Great autofocus 40x zoom is actually good Daylight pictures look sharp, vivid and have no noise Has continuous shooting 8fps and works really well with sports, I bought it mainly for that and it fits the bill.

Tilting screen for selfies is good. On daylight you can forget your dslr and pick this up to shoot pics. Full manual control which is awesome for such a compact camera Cons: Low light performance sucks, my fz80 does a much better job obv No Raw support No jpeg compression Pictures can be a tiny bit soft for some people’s tastes Optical zoom up to 40x zoom is amazing, I don’t recommend using the digital zoom, even though it can go up to 160x on digital, but I don’t recommend and you can get grainy pics.

Make sure to register your product on the website or else you won’t get firmware updates. I didn’t notice I had to until I had already thrown my paper away that had my registration info. Don’t be me.

Excellent option for someone wanting to get into the later years of CCD cameras. 10 megapixels is plenty for sharing online if you don’t rely on cropping your images. A lot of the other choices have similar or less features while fetching a higher price.

With the batteries still being readily available for this camera at a fair price I would say it’s a great option for someone wanting to get into learning the basics of photography and still a solid camera in general.

There are limitations, but with some creativity you can get great shots out of this digicam. There’s a reason professional photographers loved the S90/S95 when it released and for years after. Now with digicams becoming the “new film” as a trend across parts of the world, the S95 is probably the best option in terms of price, build quality, features, and image quality.

Excellent condition! Came quickly and all original accessories. Thank you!! This S90 camera takes great photos and seems durable (more durable than the later S110 that we also own). We find it a little clumsy to switch into video mode, and the video resolution is low so when zooming in while taking a video it does get blurry.

But it’s totally fine for my young teenager, but as an adult I would choose a camera with better quality video resolution.

This compact camera is a favourite of mine as it has manual settings, a bright lens and is capable of taking very sharp images. The compact size enables it to fit in most pockets. I prefer this model as the later ones are too wide for my style of photography.

Therefore, I would highly recommend it.
