I have had my Samsung Galaxy A20 for almost 2 years and it still has the same glass protector and Otterbox that Metro PCS gave with it. My buddy paid $150 for it and I’d say it’s worth every penny. 1.

It holds battery for well over 8hrs. 2. The storage space is absolutely amazing. 3. The fingerprint lock button on the back lets you scroll up and down. 4. It’s virtually just a computer/laptop for me because I have Xfinity Wi-Fi and downloaded an app to make phone calls and receive texts.

WITHOUT having to buy a minutes/data phone card!(Now that it is unlocked I could use it with any carrier of my choice. )5. I love the “palm swipe” feature for screenshots. All around an excellent phone/computer.

Battery life is unbelievable. Charges fast too. Strength of the phone is amazing, waterproofing, all that good stuff 🙂 Phone doesn’t lag or anything. Camera is really nice quality. Only downfall IMO is size.

It’s not stupid big like “mobile” phones are now days but it is still bigger than I like. And if I submerge in water or just leave it in my pocket at work and it gets soaked, the speaker fills with water and is real quiet.

But that is all good cos it doesn’t take long to drain. 10/10 would recommend.

The unit arrived as promised, with an extended battery pack. The price was excellent given that the device was only a few months old and had only some very minor cosmetic damage to the case, none to the phone itself.

I am using it as a handheld navigation device on my boat for which it is ideally suited. I have not answered the ‘does it have a small form factor’ question because that is not relevant. It can be held easily in one hand but has a much larger screen, and runs Navionics HD, which is much better than my current Garmin GPSmap 78sc, which has a tiny screen and requires expensive map updates!!.

Cheap,rugged, fantastic battery life. Wanted a phone I could use as a gps and a Eeader in the wilderness. Works well for this. Great battery life, and seems conserve it better than than my regular phone.

The gps works really well and doesn’t suck down the battery like my regular phone. It weighs about the same too. Didn’t rate it 5, because it didn’t have service in some rural areas where my other phone was picking up ATT.

This particular phone seems to have come from Asia and may not have all the US bands.

I chose this to replace a five year old phone no longer receiving security updates. I use a banking app so to get these updates seems advisable. Samsung will apparently offer 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates for this phone.

This phone has a macro camera, compass, runs the latest version of Android and has more features than my previous phone including sharper screeen, 5G and dual band WIFI. I like having the macro camera to photograph plants and insects but this only works within 3 to 5cm of the subject.

Some reviews criticise response time but I have found it fine to use and there seems to be no problem making calls even when coverage is poor. The battery is about 50% after 23 hours typical use and takes 1 hour to fully charge on a normal charger.

I do not make a lot of calls though I use apps like Whatsapp and Slack a lot. I use Nova Launcher as the home application not the Samsung One UI Home as Nova has more configuration options and may be faster than the default, though on-screen notifications require the paid-for version which is £3.

99. It is annoying that Samsung load the phone with their apps which the user cannot uninstall. With the trade in offer, this is a good value but maybe suits light users.

I’ve always had flagship phones in the past. I had a good think about what I need from a phone and decided that the A53 would do everything I want. I’m in my 50s and so enjoy a bit of gaming but if I want to play Call of Duty or other graphics card taxing titles, I’ll use the PC.

So the A53 is fine for the type of mobile games I play. I watched and read a lot of reviews and quite a few reckon it is laggy. I have to say after just over a week of use, I’ve not noticed any lag at all.

The battery life is immense, and the speakers are really good. I don’t use earphones so the lack of a jack does not bother me. Having SD card support is really useful too. Camera is really good. Videos are a little jittery and that’s an area where a flagship would probably excel.

As with the majority of Samsung phones, the display is just beautiful. The A53 is just short of being flagship slick but it really doesn’t bother me. Before you spend ridiculous money on an S series or equivalent, just have a think what you need from a phone.

I reckon the A53 will have you covered.

I am very pleased with my new phone. My old phone was old (Samsung Galaxy S7) so this one is obviously a huge improvement on that. Faster processor and a much better battery life are the prime examples.

I initially considered an Samsung Galaxy S22, but the price was above what I was prepared to pay. I also wanted a phone that had extendable storage on an SD card, which the S22 does not have. I read various comparison reviews between the two phones and the overall the A53 came out top in terms of bang for your buck.

I’ve had the s61 for over a year a year and have intentionally waited to review it. Let’s face it everyone loves their new phone straight out of the box. Fast forward a year later. cracked screen? Water damage? Functions any different than it did on day one? Not this tank! It’s been dropped, kicked , stepped on, thrown , droppedd in a salt water boat slip for over and hour until the diver showed up with the charging port cover left open.

And still after a year of abuse everything worked fine. I say worked because I became concerned about the case/housing being bent(that’s right the factory casing is metal) and was worried about water getting inside so I contacted customer service for an out of warranty repair who transferred me to Bullittgroup and was given a brand new phone at less than a third of the original price! Try that with the phone you have.

I’ve found water leaks, heating and cooling leaks,exhaust leaks , uneven brake wear, poachers and the list goes on. The laser measure tool makes bidding jobs easier once you figure how to use it. Andh its hard to find a little red dot in broad daylight.

It also doubles as a cat toy. Air quality meter it kind of sensitive, it goes off every time I fire up a cigarette. lol I turned it off until I’m in the shop and might need it. Long story long, any contractor ,fisherman , construction worker or anyone else who is as hard on phones as life is on us should have this tool in their phone pouch.

I’ll never buy another phone unless it’s this one!!.

The CAT S60 and CAT S61 both feature FLIR two lens hybrid thermal cameras in rugged waterproof, shock resistant, “gorilla glass” platforms. Most rugged phones have older operating systems which are antiquated by 2020 standards.

CAT S60 and S61 feature 13 and 17 megapixel rear cameras. Both have various performance advantages but the S61 is slightly bigger, lighter weight and more simplified. The S60 was my choice for its lower price point.

Their purpose as business machines are enhanced with industrial apps for farming, construction, military and scientific use. They’re also the first smartphones to have “underwater camera” capability but with fair wear and tear can not reasonably be expected to perform repeatedly over time.

Watching movies or high stream games would be better served with more advanced androids or i-Phones. Their batteries are good but FLIR camera use will drain more quickly and neither phone appears to replace batteries without special tools.

Thermal camera phones are a unique niche which IMO could trend downward unless more advanced FLIR rugged phones are developed. They started out expensive. Then became affordable. Then in time may be unattainable.

I’ve never owned a smartphone so I might not be the best person to rate this item. Let the AT&T techs install the sims and set it upt. The APN never could connect with the tower so no pics or graphics would download.

Took it back to AT&T and they played with it for over an hour finally telling me the phone wasn’t set up to download pics. Of course I didn’t believe them. Took it to Walmart where their Tech (female) worked with it for ten minutes.

Sure enough it wouldn’t handshake with the AT&T cell tower. She switched it over to Cingular and it works fine. Who messed up? One of the largest companies Google running Android OS never made sure their OS would work with one of the largest cell phone companies???? Google’s Android assumes too much and auto loads tons of tracking, apps, and messaging.

What I liked : Fit and finish of the iPhone 13 Pro Max has to be the best on the market as of March 2022. It’s not light, and it just feels perfect in my hand. I like the flat edges of this phone, and honestly it just looks really nice compared to some of the iPhones of yore and was enough to convince me to dump my usual choice of going with a Galaxy in favor of something different than the usual.

Plus Sierra Blue is really pretty and it reminds me of the Zephyr Blue Metallic paint on the 03-05 Toyota Celica. Kinda wish it came in Midnight Green, that color was so cool. Everything about this phone feels function forward on the outside.

The A15 is a really snappy mobile processor, for everything that I do it doesn’t even seem to stress the thing, much less clog the ram up be it 6gb or 8gb depending on what source you ask. For most of us, myself included, it’ll take age to slow down this iPhone.

The display is nice, 120hz so playing a few mobile games look great on this as well as watching a youtube video or two. Also the battery life on this phone is insane, I am on day two of not having it on the charger and it’s hit around 36% and I use this phone for some critical functions of my job (calls, task management, ect) so there has been a consistent load on it outside of when I sleep.

AirPlay is awesome by the way, hands down one of my favorite features is being able to quickly and seamlessly slip between my car’s stereo and a pair of head phones. Also the speaker quality is pretty dang nice too! The camera might be the next best thing next to the design for the 13 Pro Max.

Low light looks pretty good when I take pictures or use it for videos. There are neat short cuts like tap back which I use to turn on the flashlight on the phone, it’s not the brightest thing but it does a good enough job.

The screen responds nicely and taking videos of my dogs running in slow mo has never been so entertaining, plus the camera taking a mix of photo and video has earned some giggles too. What I hated : So the first thing I am going to get out of the way is that I came from a Galaxy S10+, everyone that I have talked about iOS to has claimed that it is either a different beast altogether (Not really) and that it is more functional than Android by far (I wouldn’t agree or disagree with this).

Organization is NOT something I would say iOS does well, with Android you have the App drawer, with iOS I have made different folders and prayed that my goldfish like memory wouldn’t end with me trying to find one of the many apps I use.

Stacks/Widgets aren’t bad, but I feel like Android does this better as well. This isn’t exactly something I would call bad, but it was enough for me to second guess this phone after a couple of days because my organization of all the apps I use was driving me nuts.

For a company that focuses on the idea of things “Just working” I think Apple needs to take a look outside and make some minor tweaks to perfect iOS. I also kind of miss my custom roms for Android as well but anyone with two functioning brain cells knows why Apple doesn’t allow that sort of thing.

Also 3rd party apps don’t always work even if you approve them and for crying out loud allow us to emulate or VM older versions of iOS for older apps that can be found on the App Store! I was looking forward to trying Doom II RPG on this phone but iOS 15 isn’t compatible and I am too lazy to find a work around at this time.

I really like the way this phone feels in my hand though, and if I had to buy another phone again (please no) I’d stick with the 13 Pro Max cause I like it THAT much.

After upgrading from the 11 Pro Max, I immediately notice an increased responsiveness and color vibrance—attributes in themselves that would be worth considering an upgrade. Apple says it correctly on their site, “A display so responsive, every interaction feels new again.

†Additionally, somehow the phone itself is even more beautiful with the square edge stainless steel, taller frame, and smooth ceramic glass. This time around I chose silver, being traditionally a graphite / black subscriber—I’m glad I did.

My only drawback here is that the frame is of such a quality that it almost feels buttery, making it nearly impossible to hold with one hand…a case is necessary for grip. While I’m still testing the camera, so far I’m pleased with the upgrade from the 11.

The tri-camera 2019 model never failed to underperform when compared to Samsung, Google phone, or Blackberry images. The 13 has a noticeable upgrade in richness to what I would consider ‘acceptable’, though Apple is still far from the capabilities I’ve seen on the aforementioned models.

Low light photo has improved, but video still looks 5 years behind, pixelated and grainy like an entry-level DSLR. The photographic styles prior to shooting are a game-changer for me. The attribute I disliked most about the iPhone 11 Pro Max camera was the yellowed appearance of shots right off the device; I would forever be decreasing the warmth and filtering important moments.

On the 13 you can set a pre-filter, more or less, that eliminates the yellowed look with multiple options. The portrait and cinematic modes can be rewarding, but ultimately the device is using an algorithm to edge detect and I’m not into the fake blurs around people, which is what you would mostly be capturing with the high aperture…lots more work to be done there.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the call quality bump as well. Perhaps that was an update from the 12, but I just exited a loud car and when the other end of my call could not hear me with my Sony XM4s (yes call quality is still trash on their flagship headphone model), switching to the phone directly eliminated all surrounding sound other than my voice—the 11 wasn’t quite that notable in loud environments.

As far as pricing is concerned $1099 is the standard these days, so without a price increase I don’t have anything negative to say. To me, the value I get over 2 years from a device worth that pays for itself 20 times over.

With Verizon’s trade-in discount my upgrade cost $99 and tax—the decision was clear. FYI: Def don’t need another wall charger after receiving the 20v with the 11. the 30v usb bricks also work…so no worries on the footprint reduction.

At this point I have too many white cords as it is and the mag safe adaptation is only $39, which naturally I purchased to maximize the new phone high. I did, however, find it odd that they did not include the upgraded rope wire that came with a new keyboard I purchased…hmm.

I purchased the Samsung A157 as a backup phone in case my regular phone should fail when traveling, installed my SIM card, and charged the battery. After the battery was fully charged, I turned the phone on, and everything worked well, except the wrong time was displayed; it was one hour off.

I live in the Eastern Time Zone, but the phone displayed Central Time. It was verified that the time setting was set to “auto. ” In addition, it had a built-in world clock which displayed New York’s time as an hour off as well.

I proceeded to return it and buy a second one, but this one also displayed the time incorrectly. When I went to an AT&T store, they were as puzzled as I was and could not solve the problem. I then returned that phone as well.

I had a Pantech flip phone with display on the outer cover. The lens was cracked and was difficult to see the numbers that were calling. This Samsung unit is a great replacement. Just slip in my ATT sim card and replace a few numbers not already on the sim card and it works great.

When the calls come in I flip it open and decide then if I take the call or not. My Pantech automatically answered when I opened it(didn’t like that). The Samsung functions in much the same way as my old phone.

I don’t text or do internet so cannot report on those features. Have had no problems with calls dropping or poor reception except in areas already known as ‘dead zones’. Great value for the $’s.

My smart phone broke about a month before my contract ended. I didn’t want to get a new phone and have to re-new my contract, so I decided to go the inexpensive route. I just chose the cheapest ATT phone they had.

I was kind of bummed out at first. My smart phone was very advanced and helpful, and getting a flip phone felt like I was back in 2005. It is not high tech or anything fancy. However, the battery life is long, for the kind of phone it is the functions are good, easy to talk on.

I recommend this for someone who doesn’t need all the advancements of smart phones or something to use temporarily. I was quite pleased.

If you buy any android device it is critically important that you carefully record and retain all passwords, pass codes (unfortunately there is a difference) account numbers, serial number of the phone, software versions, build number, and retain proof of purchase.

The phone has passwords for Koycera as well as Google. There is an IMEC number. All this data needs to be recorded and a hard copy saved. Android devices do not have a hard reset. A major flaw. Be Advised.

Kyocera DuraForce – 16GB – E6560 Black AT&T ONLY Rugged Waterproof GPS B This phone is complete awesomeness!!! My husband is a mechanical engineer and in his work environment he needed a phone that would withstand anything! This phone does just that.

It’s completely indestructable. It’s completely sealed, it’s a really meaty phone. Meaning it is completely waterproof, dust proof, shatter proof etc. it’s made tough! Made for anyone who is really hard on phones.

The volume is really loud on the Kyocera DuraForce – 16GB – E6560 Black AT&T ONLY Rugged Waterproof GPS B. It’s actually louder then a lot of other phones are. Has really good sound. You can actually hear very well on voice calls.

I totally recommend this phone to anyone who works in a tough environment, and who is out in the weather a lot. Great for mechanics, military, construction workers, etc. This phone has 16 gig internal memory, has a SD card slot to add another 32 gig.

It has a lot of neat features added to the phone. Eco mode, battery saver, compass, etc. The usage manager is most helpful. The battery on the phone stays up a lot longer than most other phones as well.

I totally recommend this phone for anyone who works in a tough environment, or to anyone who just wants a phone that will last for a long time. The phone is made with all gorilla ware.

As a contractor I seem to be dropping my phone more often than I care to admit. I also get it dirty and wet as the environment in which I conduct business seems to have an abundance of unfriendly elements which have killed previous devices.

I like the size of this phone as it slips easily into my pocket and does not seem phased by me sitting on it when I get in and out of my truck. I think the screen is big enough even for my older eyes and I really enjoy the beefed up volume output.

Though there are better cameras out there, I am perfectly fine with the image quality as it is used for site specific photos which do not require the crispness of an art exhibition piece of art. This is my second Duraforce as the I crack the glass when I stepped on it and there was a chunk of gravel dead center of the screen.

It cracked but is still fully functional. I was not able to find anyone to replace the screen so I opted to get a replacement instead. I’ll just remember to not step on it next time! If you want an honest and tough little device, this phone is a winner!.

In the 10+ years of being exclusively an Android user, every Android phone I’ve ever owned has been plagued with issues. Data loss was a frequent occurrence. Data migration always missed files when moving to a new device.

Support was always a painful experience. My experience with my most recent Google device, the Pixel 3a, was no different than any other Android phone I’ve ever owned: Spectacularly frustrating. So after 10+ years of being an Android user, I’m done.

The Pixel 3a is the last Android phone I’ll ever own. I bought an iPhone 13 as a replacement, and it’s spectacularly good. I’m very happy to have made the switch.

Today was the last straw. My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S10. We were both sent group texts from my son announcing his newborn baby’s name with a photo. She received her text. I did not receive mine. This has happened before, too.

On our 2020 Forester, the phone’s navigation app occasionally stops working. Imagine on a busy freeway the difficulty this creates. Luckily if my wife is in the car, she then navigates on her Galaxy S10 always without problems.

I frequently find that its sound for receiving texts fails even after repeatedly checking notification settings.

Have had my Pixel 3A for less than 1-1/2 years–had problems by 5 months. Biggest problems are (1) constant dropped audio (can’t hear other person after 5-10 minutes or less) and (2) call dropping altogether and inability to then call out.

Also have some freezing and loss of connection to Wifi. Reported issues to Google 6 months in, but Google simply provided the resetting Network troubleshooting suggestion that didn’t work. It was hard to follow up during the pandemic because customer service was maxed out, and it was impossible to get through.

So when I finally followed up again and got a response, Google said it was past warranty. After much time and effort on my part documenting how I had contacted them without results during the warranty period, Google told me to send in my phone to be replaced by a refurbished model.

(Note: Google wouldn’t send the refurb before receiving my defective phone. They simply expect customers to have a backup phone to use or be without a phone–despite the fact that the problem is with their product.

) The refurbished phone had the exact same issues from Day 1. The Pixel 3a is so unreliable and so stressful that I have now ordered an iPhone to replace this horrendous phone. Such a waste of money and a complete disappointment!.

I bought this A53 in early April, and already it has come out with several software updates. I am extremely pleased with Samsung adopting a longevity policy for continued updates, which will make this phone very practical well into 2026.

The A53 is only around three inches across, so very comfortable in smaller hands like mine. I bought the A53, my first Samsung mid-range device, instead of flagships, and will never go back to a Samsung flagship, after eight years of having used them, unless they reincorporate the SD card slot.

This is a must-have for all my media. The dual speakers on this smaller and cheaper device are better than those on the flagship. You get a resonance that is wonderful to hear when streaming. It is very handy on this device, as with later Samsung devices, to have all the hard buttons on the right side of the device.

This prevents one from accidentally invoking another feature, such as Bixby, when grasping the phone. You will see lots of reviews discussing the camera features, which I use, but I am going to talk about accessibility features, since hardly any review features these.

I use the TalkBack screen reader with the device, and Samsung’s TalkBack has come a long way since its troubling debut early last year. They have already come out with an updated TalkBack version on the heels of Google’s latest iteration, and now, I find no difference in performance, although Google’s version 12.

2 has a couple extra features, such as an image recognition feature and eliminating volume buttons slider control, substituting with an up or down scroll finger swipe. As of a couple days ago, the Samsung TTS version is on a parr with the flagships, a request I first put in when I got my A53.

I learned that these updates come sllightly later to mid-range phones, such as the A53. The only other change I would make to the phone is to increase the haptic intensity, but certainly not a deal breaker, just a preference.

To a sighted person, tactile haptic feedback is like visual screen intensity. The phone functions quickly and efficiently, and is a great work horse. I like a phone to do what I want it to do, when I want it to.

I have over 100 apps on my phone and operate out of the apps tray, as I have it organized alphabetically, and don’t allow app additions to my home screen. I use the home screen as a landing page for my time and weather widget, and let the phone do the organizing for me which has saved me countless hours deciding about and organizing home screens.

In summary, unless you have to have a flagship, or prefer the bigger screen, you will be pleasantly surprised with the A53 and glad of the purchase. Should Samsung take away any more features, other than the SD card slot from their mid-ranger or budget phones, Samsung and I will part company after eight years.

But for now, I am a “happy camper. “.

I bought the A53 5G knowing it had the Samsung Exynos processor and it is good. Samsung’s battery optimization software helps protect, prolong and improve the endurance of the battery. With battery saver, the battery capped at 85% charge, and other optimizations made by the phone, I am getting a full day’s use without a problem.

By capping the battery to 85%, it reduces the degradation of the battery’s capacity and sometimes (in one study) improves the capacity over time. Performance is great, the screen is beautiful with 120hz and 60hz, I rarely use 120hz because Youtube video(s) are capped at 60hz and gaming doesnt go beyond 60fps, so the 120hz only helps when scrolling or reading the news, so I turn it off most of the time.

If you are not gaming, Battery Saver caps the CPU speed of the phone to 70% and it works great even during gaming, and it prolongs the phone’s battery even longer. If you are just reading the news, watching videos, or shopping online there is no need to use 100% of the CPU speed, and it increases the battery life even longer.

Fast charging works with a Samsung Fast charger, I am getting less than 40mins from 20% to 85%, and that is enough for the entire day for me. I try to keep the battery between 20% and 85%. It would probably go to 100% if I turned off the battery protect feature as the charging slows down as it hits the cap that is set (85% or 100%).

In terms of performance, Samsung has made numerous updates to the phone and the performance has improved, it is best to give Samsung more time to improve the Exynos processors and software to make it great over-time.

The camera is excellent, with the NPU (Neutral Processing Unit/AI-Machine Learning), it is able to capture photos with great quality, colour and edit them to make imperfections better. For the price, the A53 5G gives you the 5G features most people need, the camera, the performance, and the battery life for a price that is reasonable.

You buy this phone because of the above features and the long-term support of 5 years of security updates and 4 years of major OS updates.

First, this is a mid-range phone. Samsung made a name for itself by building awesome phones at reasonable prices. Now you can easily spend over $1,000 for one of their more premium phones. I’m not sure any mobile phone deserves that high a price tag.

Theree was a period Samsung swung to knock it out of the park every time they introduced a new phone. Here they hit about a double. They have created the perfect mid-range cell phone for Purgatory. Everything is just ok here.

and there is the problem. Nothing about it stands out, is groundbreaking, or memorable. People’s phones are very personal items and there’s just no look, feature, feeling, or theme with this phone. The specs on paper indicate it should be a beast.

I got the 128 GB version with 6 GB RAM. Storage is expandable up to 1 TB by adding an SD card. You can also add an additional 6GB of virtual RAM on the memory card you add. and yet, I can still tell no difference.

It is powered by Samsung’s own 1280 Exynos octa-core processor, which isn’t going to break any speed records but gets the job done. It is a little laggy at times, and one wonders how much better this phone would be if something, ANYTHING, stood out about it.

Only the heavy gamer need avoid this phone. It has NFC, comes with Android 12, and Samsung guarantees 4 operating system upgrades and 5 years of security patches. I wanted to give this phone 5 stars, but I just can’t for the following reasons: 1.

) It feels cheap and I’m not just talking about the plastic case all around it. Even with a Super AMOLED 120 Hz screen, nothing seems zippy or fluid. Pictures are adequate, but nothing on the screen is vivid, even when I have the vivid setting on.

Some of this was improved by working with the settings and putting it in a less bulky case and a screen protector on it. I suggest you do the same, because if you want all those years of updates and security patches you gotta protect the phone.

2. ) There is no wireless charging. 3. ) Samsung includes so much bloatware and some of its own things like the Galaxy Store that just wants to copy the Google Play store. Some of it you can remove, and some you can’t.

I’d have less of a problem with them doing this if it produced something more like Material You as featured on the Pixel phone, but instead these things just come off looking like a cheap imitation of all things Google.

Which again brings me back to nothing standing out about this phone. Samsung doesn’t seem to get that people don’t want to flock to their other services and products, because they are just as tepid as this phone.

That being said, it comes with a lot of other great specs and features such as ip67 dust and water resistance, Gorilla Glass 5, and decent cameras. Overall, I’d recommend it as a buy. but read all the detailed specs first to make sure this is the phone for you.

It can take a rather long time to get into all its settings and adjust them to make the phone more to your liking. I’m also hoping when Android 13 and Samsung’s UI 5 update it puts a little more pep in the step of the A53 5g.

Having owned the 1st gen SE for five years the battery was shot and I was contemplating replacing it for a while, but I’m glad I waited for the 3rd gen SE to come out – with the same A15 chip as the current flagship iPhone 13, and even the upcoming iPhone 14, it has performance to spare and is future proofed as far as any phone can be.

Apps launch instantly, mobile 4g and 5g speeds match wifi performance (depending on the signal of course). I find battery life to be excellent – after a full day of use (for me that’s at least 3 hours screen time using web, navigation, email, texting, photos/video, a few 10 min calls) I often still have 60% battery left the next morning.

Whilst the LCD screen is small and unfashionable with its bezels, it is adequate for all my daily needs including email, etc. if you know you need a large screen for work or gaming, you’re unlikely to be considering this phone anyway.

For those who prefer a pocket sized phone, the screen is sharp and works well in all lighting conditions except direct bright sunlight where high contrast text is legible, but subtle tones and details in photos are hard to see (I’ve yet to see a screen that works well in such conditions).

It also retains the home button and Touch ID which I appreciate and prefer to Face ID, especially when using banking apps and Apple Pay. The main camera is adequate for most situations and has Apple’s latest image processing so the quality of photos and video is high.

The front camera is of a lower resolution so selfies are not to the same standard. John Lewis sell at the same price as other retailers, but include a 2 year warranty which no one else does so represent excellent value for money.

By today’s standards this is old, but old doesn’t necessarily mean bad as the SE is lightweight, comfortable to use and easy to carry on your person. The Camera The camera lenses/sensors are the same as the previous SE from 2020.

There is a 12 megapixel lens on the back and a 7 megapixel lens on the front. However, although these are the same as the previous model the images this phone takes are fantastic, thanks (in part) to the SE’s new image processing.

5G 5G is another big plus for this phone, but it’s only useful if: a) You are in a 5G enabled area b) Have a good data (SIM) plan For the price the iPhone SE (2022) this is the most powerful phone you can get, a phone which will last many years to come.

iPhone SE 2022 Review I felt compelled to write this review after I had read so many other reviews before making this purchase. And I think this little powerhouse of a phone deserves it. I have just spent a year with the IPhone 13.

But moved to this phone. The iPhone SE 2022 is quite literally punching above its weight. With the same A15 Bionic CPU that is found in Apple’s flagship model (13 Pro), extended battery life, 5G network capabilities and the option of larger memory size.

This mobile really stands up for itself. One thing I’ve read so much about from trusted reviews and other comments is the criticism of the form factor / screen size. For me, the size of this was one of the MAIN reasons to get this phone.

I don’t want a huge, heavy phone in my pocket. The 4. 7″ is in my opinion just perfect, and with the iPhone SE you hardly notice it at all. Its easy to hold and use and very light. It also uses Touch ID which I actually prefer than FaceID as it’s quicker and more convenient.

It was a shame to hear that this could be the last time Apple support this smaller size and are moving the next SE to a larger screen, another reason why I wanted to get this version before they do. This phone for me is perfect in every way, and if you are able to, I would go for the larger 256GB memory size to really future proof this device.

This cell phone has a 3. 5mm input for headphones and USB port type C. Also, slot for an external micro SD memory and for a nano SIM chip. On the upper front has a LED for notifications and on the back the NFC module, which helps to transfer information in a faster way.

The screen is 5. 5 inches with HD resolution with IPS technology, which, as we know, shows more real colors, has greater sharpness and better viewing angle, and so I checked because I was running several games in 2D and 3D, and both were very well appreciated, as were YouTube and Netflix content.

if you are the one that really takes advantage of your cell phone, I confess that you could look for a better option for Sony. In general and with a recurring use, the performance of the phone is regular because when you have several applications open, the phone becomes slow, for example, when opening the camera modes, gallery, messages or when you return to the menu principal.

Its internal storage is 16 GB, which is little compared to some mid-range phones that are coming out for sale. As a reference, I take Antutu Benchmark tests where the Sony Xperia L1 took 37,095 points, which is a bit low for its price and range; also does not compare with the Xiaomi Redmi 4X that obtained more than 42,000 points or the Moto G5 with more than 45,000 points, noting that both teams are cheaper than the Xperia L1.

During the time I was testing the cell phone, I used only internal memory, in which I downloaded heavy apps and games in 3D. In about two weeks, this Xperia L1 already had 85% of storage occupied, so I recommend that if you buy this cell phone, use some external memory for better performance.

Sony’s bewildering range of Xperia smartphone designations continues with the Sony Xperia L1. You can think of it as a successor to the Xperia E family, but more relevant to the average shopper is the kind of company it keeps within its price range.

I’ll say this for Sony – you know one of its phones when you see one. For years now, the Japanese manufacturer has stuck with a blocky design language all its own. If you had to name a phone you’d least like dropped on your head from an upstairs window, it would probably be a Sony Xperia.

Pushed to be a bit more specific, the Sony Xperia L1 might well be the phone you’d select. This is a seriously hefty bit of kit at 151mm tall and 8. 7mm thick, while it weighs a pocket-sagging 180g. It’s all-plastic, but unlike other such phones it doesn’t attempt to hide that fact, which is a laudable design decision.

There’s something reassuringly sturdy about the Xperia L1’s undisguised matte plastic rear panel and plain, gently curved sides. It also has the kind of sharp corners that would serve you well in the impending zombie apocalypse.

This is the third L1 in the family. All the other phone make we have had including Apple just do not match up. Has a big screen enough apps and runs quickly and smoothly with no lag. Games, media are crisp and clarity is seen.

Sound is great and build quality is evident. Touch screen is not oversensitive or on the other hand do you have to stab at it for a response. Battery life is very good though if you are not using Bluetooth, switch it off and battery life will be even more lengthened.

Bought is last year in June from Target, and a year later I’m still very happy with my purchase. I found the phone very easy to use, the battery life about as good as advertised, with the camera in low light settings the only small drawback.

The fingerprint reader is quite responsive and reliable. The screen is excellent for my purposes, emails, web browsing, reading ebooks and watching Netflix and HBO Max. I’ve never had any problems making or receiving calls, or sending or receiving texts, nor with setting up voicemail in both Google Voice and Mint, a T-Mobile reseller.

Although the phone doesn’t have Wi-Fi 6 or G5, connectivity is plenty fast for my purposes. One thing I particularly like is the gestures and shortcuts Motorola puts in their phones, one of my favorites being – even with the phone off – simply shaking it turns on the flashlight, very helpful!One thing to remember is that this is a budget phone, though a very good one, with a relatively slow processor – compared to higher priced phones – with 4 GB RAM and up to 64 GB internal storage.

It is plenty-fast for everyday use, but if you are into a lot of gaming, extensive video editing or anything like that you’ll probably want to consider something with better specifications. As a tech geek I help friends with their phones and computers, and those friends who’ve bought Motorola phones generally have been quite happy, including one who reluctantly switched from iPhone to a Motorola phone and is now a happy Android convert.

The Moto G Power has excellent battery life, excellent CPU performance and plenty of storage. Battery typically lasts 4 days or more. Downsides: Older version of Android, mediocre camera performance (especially at night), disappointing 4GLTE mobile data performance and only average screen.

The biggest disappointment was the camera. Daytime photography is good, however the AI is weak – especially at night. The camera appears to have a problem with white balance – especially at night and in the presence of strong blue-tinged lights (daylight bulbs, IPS screens etc).

The white balance suddenly shifts to lurid yellows which is very unpleasant. Tried photographing Halloween decorations and the results were very poor compared. Although the camera has 3 lenses, the performance overall is no better than my old Moto G7.

Mobile data (4GLTE) was also a disappointment – again, inferior to my older Moto G7. This could be a problem specific to my camera rather than a systematic issue with the model. Fortunately I primarily use wifi for data and making phone calls – here the Moto G Power works fine.

I will probably spend some time researching phones with 5G, FHD displays, the latest version of android and superior camera performance. Then retire the Moto G Power to backup phone status. The older Moto G7 was at the forefront of economy phones in features and value, but that was 3 years ago and the market has moved on.

Motorola has also moved on – I should’ve done more research but I was in a hurry to replace my dead phone. That said, the Moto G Power is a solid last-generation phone and the battery is excellent.

I upgraded from an iPhone 6, to this phone around a month ago, and I’m so happy I did. I’m not supposed to say how much I paid for it, but I got it on a really good black Friday deal, if it had been the original price, I do not think I would have bought it.

The camera app is glitchy sometimes, it’s a little bit slow occasionally, but those are really the only two gripes I have. The screen is gigantic, if you have small pockets, I’d recommend a smaller phone.

It’s really tall vertically, which makes for an odd contrast ratio, and at times awkward looking pictures and selfies, when you’re looking at them from other devices. Pictures are pretty good, not phenomenal such as an *ahem* goggle piksul *ahem* (I’m not allowed to mention competitors) but I’ve been satisfied with almost all the pictures I’ve gotten.

The shutter speed is quite slow sometimes, which is SUPER annoying when it happens. The audio it picks up though is great, unless you’re recording voice notes in the messages app. The battery life is absolutely phenomenal.

Sometimes I have ended the day with 2 1/2 hours of screen on time, and 80% battery. It’s RARE that I will end the day with less than 50%, and I have an app installed that tracks my location at all times, so that drains more battery than normal as well.

The fingerprint sensor is also very fast, and reliable. Speakers are super loud, which comes in handy. If you have only $250-$300 to spend on a phone, this would be one to consider, but if you can get this on a deal that puts it at $200 or lower, it is amazing value for the money.

Another amazing thing I’ve loved about this phone is just how much I can change about it. With my iPhone 6 there was none of it, but with this phone, I can change almost anything I want. Oh also, haptic feedback (vibrations when you touch a key) are good, not great, but not horrible, in my opinion.

Let me start by saying that the Xperia Pro-I doesn’t have a 1 inch sensor, it has a 1 inch type sensor. Basically this means that it has been cropped to fit in a mobile handset. But it still has the worlds best imaging sensor in a phone.

This doesn’t mean it will give better photos than other lesser mobiles but it has the potential if you know photography and you’re willing to learn how to get the results you want – just how you would with a digital camera.

So apart from the camera how does this handset perform? – Superbly, phone call clarity is as good as you can get anywhere. It feels smaller in the hand than you would expect a phone with a 6. 5 inch screen.

As for the screen – this is the other worlds best – it’s vibrant and has a 1st class colour balance. It makes the screen on the latest ‘fruit’ company’s display look downright washed out. I haven’t noticed any issues with a lack of brightness.

Construction of the handset looks and feels top notch but the vote on durability will obviously have to wait. I’m not too impressed with the tool less SIM card tray, I prefer the security of the pin tool type but it works and hasn’t fallen out yet.

Brilliant to see and use a 3. 5mm headphone jack – YES! Battery life? This handset is a power hungry monster so if you use it a lot the battery will drain rather quickly. Sony hasn’t yet found a way to change the laws of physics.

If you want a phone with these specs to last a day or more it would likely have to be at least twice as thick. Highly recommended, if you’re in to photography and you want a absolutely superb handset just go for it! The price is expensive but not when you factor in the fact that you are getting a fully functioning digital camera in a body with a brilliant mobile phone with an out of the world screen – it’s worth every penny.

I got this Camera/Phone after careful thought as I already had the Sony Xperia 1III, what attracted me was the camera set up and the specs were exactly the same as the Mark. I absolutely want to watch and listen to my media in absolute quality, which this device provides, yes I’ve tried the camera out and like the MarkIII it’s not a point and shoot camera (although you can choose basic mode for this) so a fair bit of thought process has to go into photographing subjects, for novices like myself I would advice to purchase the one of many books you can buy to get some knowledge how a camera works and basic photography as the set up is very similar to a Sony alpha set up, the shutter button is slightly bigger and the half press function is slightly more pronounced than MarkIII, this device pairs beautifully with my Sony WH-1000XM4’s google play HD films will appear almost 4K if you set up the visuals as Creator Mode, and the music is pristine, loud and clear.

The frame has a ribbed bezel design so feels less slippery to grip, a note here: on images it appears the bezel is a 2 tone grey and black, it’s in fact all black and just lighting that makes it appear 2 tone, there’s been many a review of this phone on YouTube all positive, don’t let the price deter your decision, you get what you pay for.

I also got the official leather case for it and a glass screen protector for better protection, I also used the Sony wrist strap from my portable digital radio for the wrist strap attachment which is very useful if your taking pictures on a windy day.

Although 512GB capacity was enough for my needs I also inserted a 128GB memory card to bump up the internal storage. I would recommend any one who doesn’t want the bulk of even a compact camera but want everything in one device easily accessible to opt for this slick device.

With phones like the MarkII/III & Pro I think Sony will always appeal to professionals and enthusiasts alike.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best, I rate this phone a “6”. Well packed with easy-to-follow instructions. Hard to beat the price for a brand new phone. Simple to activate, call quality excellent, nice size, light weight, feels good in the hand, good ear and speaker audio and good battery capacity.

Makes and receives phone calls as a feature phone should. It served the purpose for which I bought it. However, this phone tries to do too much without a QWERTY keyboard or large display. Since all user control is through the keypad and menus, I found it a pain to perform ‘regular’ functions.

T-Mobile currently charges a minimum of $3. 00 per month for “prepaid” accounts. This amount is debited monthly from the funds used to purchase minutes. The minimum increment that can be purchased is $10.

This is not cleasly explained anywhere I could find; in the instructions, on-line or in the advertisements.

This cell phone is pretty small and fairly easy to use. I go this phone for my 70 year old grandmother for emergencies. She has no problems with it and uses it a lot. The battery life is great, no internet, just all the basics of talking and texting (but she doesn’t text).

For 12 bucks this was a steal to me and I added her to my plan with T-Mobile only for $10 bucks extra a month. My grandma loves it and it gives me piece of mind I have a way of reaching her in case of emergencies.

Pros: Small, Long battery life, simple, easy to use & cheap Cons: Doesn’t have outer volume controls for ringer, can’t set contacts to a speed dial & buttons are a tad small.

My hearing is getting worse and I’m glad to say I can understand ‘most every body with this phone. I send about three texts per year so that is of no importance. The battery life is good and the phone is easy to use.

Of course there was no problem since I have T-Mobile. I’m also hoping to swap in another SIM and use the phone in Asia instead of travelling with two phones. Should work. So far , so good and glad I ordered this phone.

Yes, the camera is nice. It is an overall decent phone. Bring back the Finger Print ID on the back of the phone! It feels so comfortable and natural for people with larger hands. The thumb scanner/finger scanner on the front is often uncomfortable to use to get it to register correctly, since most people hold the phone at an angle slightly.

After trying this phone I will be going back to my Pixel 5. It is comparably the same, you barely notice the difference in specifications unless you are using your phone explicitly for the camera. I would not waste my money to get this or to upgrade to this.

Initial impression is this is an improved device over the 6 series. Seems smoother, faster, and haven’t witnessed the thermal throttling as the 6 pro would do as of day one (not saying it doesn’t, just not noticeable so far).

Cameras and features in the app have improved enough to deserve saying there’s a definite feeling of upgrade there with the new zoom feeling like a world apart from the zoom experience on every other camera in a phone I’ve experienced (this is many also).

The feeling when holding and the appearance of the device is just more “premium” I believe is the term being used. To me it’s simply nicer in every way but screen and battery appear unchanged.

Wiell I pre ordered the Pixel 7 Pro on 10. 6. 22. I use my phone on Google Fi and got $100 off when I link my new phone to my Fi account. Security & the camera are the reasons for my upgrade. At 77 I get so many fake calls,SMS spam etc that Call Screen has saved me from a lot of grief.

Voice typing will help me communicate easier in this upgrade. I ordered the Hazel 7 Pro with 512 gigs of storage. Can’t wait!!!.

The worst cheap phone I have ever used, by far. The delay between each key press makes text messaging absolutely excruciating. Text messages that used to take ten seconds to send, take a couple minutes.

It’s that bad. Sometimes there are delays of 5-10 seconds between each keystroke! If you EVER send text messages, you CANNOT get this phone. I used it for about two days before buying a different cheap phone.

Literally every other phone in the world is better than this phone. Alcatel, just, stop making this phone. Please. Just stop.

My mother has dementia and using the fancy new cellphones are out of the questions. We tried and it was a terrible experience. This simple flip phone is just what she needed. It works great and has a good sound for those hard to hear.

It can be used with the government funded phone services or pay as you go. Its affordable and durable (drop it and it still works). I certainly suggest this phone for whomever wants a simple phone. No flashy, just a way to make a call and text.

This phone is perfect. My grandpa has difficulty with the smarter phones. this one is just right and the buttons are more readable. I recommend it!

The Galaxy A03s is a solid budget phone for the money. Comes installed with Android 11 though you can update it to 12. It’s also on the update list for Android 13 so we will probably get that at some point in the future.

The display is solid though it won’t blow you away. Standard USB-C charging, standard 12MP camera. The real strength of this phone is probably its 5000Mah battery. Which is insane for a phone in this price range and bigger than a lot of companies put in their flagships.

You will get insanely good battery life on this phone and it’s probably by far it’s greatest strength. It’s relatively snappy opening, closing and managing apps. If you compare it to a modern flagship it may seem a little slow though I doubt you will find better at this price point.

It’s probably on par with flagships from 4 or 5 years ago in that sense. Which is still pretty good if you consider what you’re paying for this phone. The fingerprint sensor was probably by far the biggest and most welcome surprise as it works quite well allowing you to easily turn the phone on and off without much delay.

The camera is your standard ho-hum 1080p 30fps fare. It will do the job but you’re probably not going to impress anyone with it. Still it’s far better than most other phones in this price category. And I think that is a good summary for this phone.

It’s not the best but it is by far the best in it’s price range. Which is what this phone is all about. It’s not fancy but it does the job of being a smartphone pretty well. A cheap workhorse designed for the masses.

Maybe not the best phone for someone who is glued to them 24/7 but I think it would be a perfect fit for anyone else.

Bought for use as a wifi device, had to return. Boost mobile “Annoyware” will shut down wifi and pop up constantly. Useless without activation, and if not active on a plan, will shut the device down to almost useless.

Avoid unless you always plan to be on an active plan.

An absolute steal for $60. I could not believe that a phone at such a cheap price could be so fast and powerful. The clarity of the display matched with the sleekness of the design creates a beautiful product.

Definitely look into buying this one.

I really wanted to like this phone but I can’t, I just can’t. The build quality and look of this phone is just so good, but thats all there is to it. This is my second iphone since the iPhone 7 plus which I loved and had for years, first major problem is no charger in the box, fu** you apple! Environment my a** you are just trying to cut corners and save money by selling us a $1,000 plus phone and no charger or headphones in the box? Like who in this world unbox their phone and throws the charger away? Nobody, and what’s really sick about this is that they tell you oh well you have a charger at home, but the cable that’s in the box does not fit my old charger so in order to get the proper charging speed, you have to buy another charger! I mean how are people okay with this? How does this not insult you, by spending you’re hard earned $1000 and now you have to spend another $30-50 to get a charger to fit the dumb cable if you want the proper charging speed for this phone, plus another $40 on wired headphones that are also not included.

That’s like if you buy a house and lets say its $400,000, once you are inside there is no central air conditioning or heating, does not matter how much money you have, now you have to jump through all the hoops and spend $8,000 to get a unit installed and thats just unacceptable.

Second major issue is the lighting cable, now I had my iPhone 7 plus for a while then moved to android for about 2 years and decided to try the iphone again since they finally added 120hz display, but I had no idea this thing still had a lighting cable before I unboxed it.

Yo apple what’s with you and the lighting cable? The lighting cable in a nutshell killed this experience entirely for me because everything in my house is usb type c, even my cheap gadgets are usb type c, now I need a bunch of adapters, and did i mention that data transfer on the lighting cable is so slow its about as painful to watch as an old man with a hemorrhoid sit on a cactus?? And now I need to take 2 separate cords like bro just stop apple, let the lighting cable go already.

But yea that right there killed it for me, I can’t have this phone simply because of the lighting cable, it is just a huge inconvenience for me. But if the lighting cable does not bother you for some odd reason, here are a couple more problems.

Third major issue is overheating issue, boy o boy does this phone have alot of horsepower under the hood, but as soon as you even think about pushing the horsepower, this baby gets HOOOOOOOT especially if you use navigation then forget about it.

This thing gets so hot it lags and then dims the screen so much to the point where you can’t see the display, even with simple task the screen just keeps diming and its hugely annoying, obviously there is no proper cooling for all of this horsepower in this phone so it’s pretty much a gimic at this point, I mean if you are a person who just calls, then you will have no overheating issues, but if you use navigation alot, STAY FAR FAAAAAAAAR AWAY FROM THIS PHONE.

Fourth problem is no always on display so you have to keep tapping the screen to see your time and notifications, im not even gonna get into this, $1000 and no always on display? Thats a major L. Fifth major problem is I can’t see my battery percentage on the top right corner like I could with my 7 plus or android phone, so I have to swipe the screen down to see it, why apple? And the last problem is no fingerprint sensor, now I don’t understand why they force you to have one or the other, why not both face unlock and fingerprint sensor? Ever heard of options apple? Anyways I can talk about this phone forever and I really did want to like this phone but I’m gonna have to stick with android until they at least add usb type c for God sake.

Stay away from this phone.

I personally didn’t really think this phone was going to be worth it, I had my previous 11 pro for about 2 1/2 years and still thought it was a solid phone however the past couple weeks I started having issues with my 11 pro lagging so I decided it was time to upgrade.

I have only been using this phone for a few hours and can already tell a MAJOR difference between 13 pro and 11 pro. The smaller notch is definitely nice, the bezels around the phone are slightly smaller, it’s ever so slightly bigger than the 11 pro but not major, closer to the size of the regular 11 which combined with the smaller bezels definitely give it a bigger screen.

The colors on the screen are incredibly bright that’s one of the first things i noticed when I got it. I personally don’t see a huge difference with the faster refresh rate but it is nice to have. I wouldn’t upgrade just for that reason.

The speakers are significantly louder, the power button is ever so slightly lower so it’s easier to press, 5G is SUPER FAST that’s one of the biggest improvements I’ve noticed internet speed over data is much faster than my 11 pro.

And the cameras god I could write a whole paragraph about them but the biggest improvement I notice is the zoom. You can zoom much further & much clearer than the 11 pro. I picked up a MagSafe charger & a MagSafe compatible otter box and I already like that new feature a lot.

I’m sure I am forgetting some things. I’ve only had this phone 3 hours and already can tell SOOO MUCH IMPROVEMENT. I can’t speak for the iPhone 12 users I’ve never had a 12 but if you have an 11 or below definitely consider this iPhone! Also the sierra blue color is beautiful I had the midnight green 11 pro which I liked but the blue color is much nicer! Probably the only complaint I can think of is it doesn’t have usbc I really wish Apple would make the switch to usb c.

It also does not come with a charger block in the box so if you don’t have a 12 or 20w usbc block You will probably want one of those too especially if you’re planning on using MagSafe.

I upgraded to this from an 11 pro max and read many reviews before deciding on this or another max pro. I decided to just go for the pro size because of how much heavier the 13 pro Max is compared to the 11 & I don’t really notice that big a difference in screen size.

It is thicker than my previous phone & is very reminiscent of the 5s in looks, which almost seems like the company are going backwards. I have also moved from 256gb to the 512gb as I like to download a lot of music.

The colour is a lovely dark grey. I was going to go for the sierra blue but it was never in stock, but on reflection I prefer this as it goes with any colour phone case. It was easy to set up as you just sit your previous phone beside it, if it is an iPhone and it guides you through & transfers all the things from your previous phone.

I find it easy to use and can see the difference in screen from my 11 pro, it seems brighter & crisper. It is also much quicker when using the internet & apps. Be aware the cost is the same, but you no longer get a charger plug, in the box it is just the phone, the simm tool and a usb-c lightening cable.

I have purchased MagSafe chargers which are really clever and use a clear Apple case with MagSafe, which means I don’t have to remove case to charge phone. I also had to purchase plugs for these as they didn’t come with them, so if you are buying and want to use MagSafe for charging, bear in mind the extra costs involved in buying all these extra things if you don’t have them.

The camera lenses really stick out, much more than my 11 did, but the quality of the photos and videos is incredible. I took a video last night and then air played it onto our tv and was so impressed with the clarify.

The zoom seems much better than the 11 on taking photos. I have used iPhones since the original for home and have to use android at work, so can compare. Honestly, I tend to avoid my android work phone at all costs as for me I find it much more complex to use than an iPhone.

Obviously iPhones are never cheap and I buy outright, as don’t want to be locked into a phone contract. But with very you do get the good options of buy now pay later etc, so it means I can buy then save each month to pay it off in full when it is due.

The Wildfire S has a sleeker design than the original Wildfire, with 4 virtual buttons below the screen and no physical buttons. This has allowed it to be smaller and lighter than the original Wildfire, which is no bad thing.

With its metallic body it looks and feels very smart and not like a budget phone at all. Although not strictly in the “ultraslim” category, with a thickness of 12. 4mm it feels slim and fits well in the hand, making single-handed operation a possibility if you have a dextrous thumb.

The screen size is the same as the original Wildfire, at 3. 2 inches, but the resolution has been doubled to 320 x 480 pixels and that makes all the difference. Web pages are sharper, images and videos are more detailed and apps run better.

The user interface is improved too. The Android operating system has been updated to the latest version 2. 3 (Gingerbread) and the terribly refined latest release of the HTC Sense user interface is the icing on the cake.

The camera is unchanged compared with the Wildfire. But at 5 megapixels with autofocus and flash plus video recording in 3GP format it holds its own against the competition. Media is well catered for, with excellent music/media playback and a built-in FM radio too.

Audio quality via the 3. 5mm headphone jack or wireless Bluetooth headset is good. The 2GB memory card included in the sales package has room for hundreds of MP3 tracks. Web browsing on the Wildfire S is a pretty good experience, with the higher resolution screen making a big difference.

The Wildfire S is equipped with HSPA 3G, enabling download speeds of up to 7. 2Mbps, and it’s Wi-Fi enabled too, so data access is very fast. The responsive capacitive touchscreen with pinch-to-zoom combined with the fast and well-designed Android web browser makes the experience pleasurable.

Facebook and Twitter are here of course, and HTC Sense integrates them nicely with your contacts. Assisted GPS works well, with Google Maps making good use of the increased screen resolution. The processor speed has been uprated to 600 MHz, which isn’t fast compared with the 1GHz or faster speeds of high-end Android phones, but remember that the Wildfire S costs half as much as those kinds of phones and some kind of compromises have to be made.

Remember that the screen resolution is lower too, with less graphics processing needed, and in practice there’s hardly any lag when using the user interface. The difference is noticeable when running intensive apps like Google Maps and some games, and ideally we’d have liked a bit more power.

The memory has been upgraded too, to 512MB RAM and this also helps when multitasking or running those power-hungry apps. The battery isn’t so impressive. The 1230mAh capacity lithium-ion battery is actually smaller than the battery used in the first Wildfire.

That makes no sense to us, and even HTC’s official battery figures show a marked decrease in battery life for the Wildfire S compared with the Wildfire. The Wildfire S isn’t the perfect smartphone. Although it’s a step up from the original Wildfire, there are inevitable compromises here.

The display is a huge improvement on the original, but it’s still small for an Android phone. The processor is still a bit underpowered, although it’s not noticeable all the time. The battery life is distinctly on the low side.

We’ve noted that some other review sites have marked the phone down harshly for these reasons.

I bought this after struggling to find a local reseller who had any available to demo. I’m on O2 PAYG so I was looking for an unlocked model as they’re normally on the other networks and O2 typically only offer the higher-end HTC Desire or the ultra-budget HTC Smart.

This falls neatly between the Desire and the Smart for price, but doesn’t let you down in terms of features. The model I bought was running Android 2. 1, but a quick software update to 2. 2 the other day went smoothly.

I’ve already downloaded a stack of decent apps from the easy-to-use Android Market, plus a few others from third party Android app stores. If you’re looking for something to match the feature set of an iPhone, but at a much more reasonable price point then this is the phone for you.

Even second hand iPhone 3GS models are more expensive than this phone new, and with second hand Wildfires ranging in price from 120 to 180 quid, there’s plenty to choose from. The ability to use my 10 year old PAYG SIM was another bonus (the iPhone’s micro-SIM slot wouldn’t have worked for me either) and the standard Micro-SD slot for storage is great as I just plugged in the 2Gb card from my old Nokia XPressMusic.

If, like me, you’re not afraid to dig into the depths of manually setting up your APNs for 3G (or with my old SIM, EDGE 2G) and can configure all your wifi access points it’s a breeze to get running.

If your’e a plug-n-go type of person you’d probably be best looking at one on your own network (rather than an unlocked model) so that everything’s pre-configured for you. The Android navigation took a little while (a couple of hours) to pick up thoroughly, learning the contextual nature of the Menu button etc, but once you have it becomes fairly intuitive.

Not quite iOs dumbed-down-ness, but not at all difficult once it clicks. I’ve not used a vanilla Android install, so I can’t compare the HTC Sense interface to that, but Sense does make, er, sense overall.

Battery life could be better, but if you turn off the mobile data network in the background (in Settings>Wireless and Networks>Mobile Network) and your WiFi when not in use you’ll see standby times triple.

Charging using the provided mains plug>USB lead is very fast, however charging over USB from a mains-connected laptop (even from a full-powered USB port) took a good 6 hours. Not good if you’re in a hurry, but your mileage may vary depending on your laptop and the output of its power supply and a useful feature to have all the same.

Signal strength and call quality have been excellent – much better than all the iPhones I’ve seen used by friends and colleagues (it seems to be their number one complaint). Overall, I’d give the Wildfire 9/10.

Not perfect, but far from cheap-feeling. Great hardware for a reasonable price tag with all the features you could ask of a modern smartphone thanks to Android, but without the lock-in to a single vendor app store.

If you want a smartphone and you can’t justify the silly prices, particularly if you’re on PAYG and don’t want huge data contracts, then the Wildfire is definitely the way to go.

“5 MegaPixel camera with LED flash and autofocus” I’m not a photographer or an expert but I’ve taken a few photos with the HTC Wildfire’s snapper and its pretty good at taking pictures. The software is easy to use and its quite fast as well.

Slick looking HTC widgets and apps such as a choice of twelve beautifully crafted live clocks to put on the home screen as you see fit, info sharing widgets such as the stocks, news, animated weather, web bookmarks, email, SMS messaging, twitter and facebook offerings to mention just a few.

“Android Market app store” Universally slammed for not having as many apps as the iPhone offering it’s still the fastest growing app store outside Apple – here’s a few essential apps that I can’t do without; 3 cubed music player – (available free from the market) taking the “cover flow” concept to a whole new level – listen to and navigate your music collection via a rotating 3D album art cube.

Also has the ability to find missing album art via the web and check the concert schedule of the artistes in your music folder. Amazon Kindle app – (available free) The famous e-book reader is now available on Android and it works brilliantly.

Amazon MP3 – (available free) Works exactly like the iTunes music store on the iPhone, I’ve bought many an album this way. DoubleTwist – (available free for Mac, PC and Android) Basically does what iTunes does for the iPhone, provides seamless media synching options between your phone and computer.

Spotify – (free to download, need subscription to work) The ever popular music database, access thousands of tracks for a flat subscription rate LEGALLY! You can even download music for off line listening.

Google search by voice – (free to download) Does exactly what it says on the tin, with the added bonus of working quite well. You can even ask for directions to landmarks or maps and will even bring up contacts in you phone book.

Google Maps with street view and navigation – (free to download) Simply awesome, enough said!.

Though I’m an iPhone user since the iPhone 5 (until most recently an iPhone 13 pro max), this is my first android phone and it’s not bad! It has all the functions I need it to have, a really good camera and a nice big, clear screen.

It’s not laggy at all. Really happy with this phone for the price. 10/10.
