At less than £100 the Raspberry Pi400 provides a meaningful solution for the notorious ‘three body problem’ that confronts computer buyers – to balance the conflicting requirements of functionality, performance and price.

The Pi400 is quite astonishing and it is fantastic value. The basic keyboard unit at £67 has no mouse, SD card or micro-HDMI to HDMI for a monitor but for just a bit extra at £93 you can get all that in one bundle plus a handy user guide (with the Raspberry Pi OS pre-installed to the SD card).

On reflection that might have been a better deal because I had no spare SD card or HDMI lead but these are cheap enough to buy separately. The pre-installed software included with the Raspberry Pi OS is more than enough to provide anyone with an accessible computer environment and because it is free and/or open source it is readily maintained.

The Pi400 surely hits the mark for the everyday user. It is a compact PC and with the included software it provides more than sufficient performance for writing, emailing, web browsing or common data management tasks.

This small but punchy device will meet all your needs. But also for me, a lifetime Windows user who is always interested to explore further ‘under the hood’, this is a great way to dive into the Linux OS with minimal hassle.

Novice or advanced programmers too will be satisfied by the inclusion of Python and Scratch while tinkerers will enjoy the GPIO interface allowing the Pi400 to interact with the physical world using many widely available, and cheap, connectables.

Thus, for a relatively small outlay you can have a high end PC sitting modestly on your desk and, if you don’t already have one, a reasonable monitor can be bought for as little as £80 (or, if your TV has an HDMI port, use that instead unless you have to argue with your housemates for TV time!).

The Pi400 could readily support most home working needs, or it could be a tool of choice for students following a computer science curriculum, and a small start-up business might comfortably fulfil its basic IT requirements (along with a reputable cloud storage provider) without consuming significant capital resources.

What’s not to like?.

I’ve been working with computers for over 50 years. the Pi 400 is very, very nearly the PC replacement I’ve been seeking for the last 20 years. Small, low power consumption, huge computing power. If only this came with a 3.

5mm jack for sound output and a slot for an internal M. 2 solid state “hard disk” it would be _almost_ perfect. The keyboard, yeah, well, it has that “dead flesh” feel typical of cheap membrane devices.

Functional but nowhere near as nice to type on as my 1980s vintage genuine IBM PS/2 mechanical switch “clackey” keyboard (which, I believe, cost more in 1985 money than the Pi 400 does today! Mine cost nothing, I “liberated” it from a skip about 30 years ago) I bought mine as the kit version.

everything needed to get you going apart from the monitor, it’s really great value for money – again, one irritating failing, easily solved if you happen to have a standard USB mouse lying around somewhere – the cable on the “official” mouse is far too short & if you use it for any length of time you ARE going to get postural problems, especially if, like me, you prefer to use the mouse in your right hand.

(But still preferable to wireless / Bluetooth mice which never work well in my experience!) I’ve had a couple of Pis for some time now – a Pi 2 and a Pi 3B – and have to say that the 4 is a huge improvement, what makes it for me is the big step up in computing power and much faster USB 3 ports – still these have been doing sterling service as “headless” Pi Hole servers, running continuously for well over a year without any issues.

Love the Pi 4, the 400 solves most of the cable mess & makes it look like a “proper” computer for the first time. Wish I could give 4. 5 stars – 0. 5 withheld for the creepy keyboard & lack of an M. 2 socket – and that is very high praise from me.

I’m actually starting to wonder if I need my Intel-powered tower PC any more. The service I got from Pi Hut was excellent, unexpectedly fast delivery by Royal Mail with full tracking. Well done.

While under the cover the PI400 is not a PI 4 but with a different form factor. This keyboard rocks. On the back it provides easy access to the GPZIO for all your STEM projects. While the PI 4’s are scarce.

These are your best drop in replacements. Great Linux desktop that will teach new users skills but without the learning curve. Running Raspian will get you started quick and easy with easy seamless network connectivity to get you started fast.

I am currently running a rocket chat server on mine. Installed my SSL certificates and have built a perfect open source chat server for our organization. The HDMI connection made it a snap to connect to Large Vizio monitor that allows me to monitor Internet traffic.

Unlike some of the underpowered models, I can run a browser without issue.

All in one form factor is stylish and useful. Powered up straight away into OS setup. HDMI cable is a little too stiff and heavy compared to the Raspberry pi 400 keyboard unit’s weight. It’s certainly fast enough computer.

The manual packaged with the computer is excellent. There are call out sections in light blue color specifically for pi 400 notes and special instructions. One very helpful note was for connecting GPIO.

Tested Physical Computing section using Scratch 3, Python, and Node-Red during on and off an LED. Comes preloaded with Node-Red version 1. 10, I believe. To upgrade to Node-Red version 2 takes a lot of manual 3rd party steps but works great.

I am surprised how well Node-Re runs on this unit. Maybe a nice little home IoT station. I have an old Sense Hat version 1 which worked after manually enabling it as autodetect did not work for me. It’s perfect for what I wanted it for, teaching kids how to program.

I bought this to use as a server for my Ender 3V2 printer which was also purchased at Microcenter. I also wanted to learn about Linux which is what the little Pi uses as an operating system. Very impressed with the actual computing capability of this little machine especially for what it cost me.

Included with the kit is a USB C power supply, a micro HDMI cable and a corded mouse, oh well you can’t have everything ;>). The operating system and all the apps run off the included 16G SD card, I upgraded it to a 32G card for more space.

There is a full suite of productivity apps included as well as an internet browser. Lots of free apps for it, as easy to install as windows. I was surprised how well YouTube video’s played also, no stutter, the processor is surprisingly fast.

The audio is via the HDMI or built-in Bluetooth, no direct audio output. There are two 4K micro HDMI outputs, two 3. 0 USB ports, a standard 2. 0 USB port as well as gigabit ethernet. The installed OS is 32 bit, but it is easy to upgrade to the latest 64 bit version.

I tried this but had to revert to the original since Octoprint wouldn’t run on it. This would be a great little machine for a student since it can run web based content and has the Libre productivity suite already installed.

I was bit skeptical of the Pi 400 at first, as I had used an 8GB Pi 4 which has twice the memory of the 400, but the all-in-one keyboard form factor and the more powerful processor were too hard to pass up.

The keyboard is quite satisfying to use, very reminiscent of early 2010s iMac keyboards. Setting it up is a breeze; it includes an sd card with already installed Raspberry Pi OS and many utilities pre-installed.

The downloadable Raspberry Pi image software makes it easy to install other operating systems with ease, free of charge. As far as performance goes, this won’t be able to run modern games or applications that require a powerhouse graphics card, but it works really well for the basic tasks of web browsing, email etc.

Additionally, there are tons of ports of older games as well as emulators for older game consoles and computers that make this an endlessly entertaining machine for users of a certain age who are looking for their nostalgic kick.

The added power of the CPU compared to other Raspberry Pi models does make a noticeable difference, especially if overclocked, for some of the newer console emulators available. All-in-all, it’s a wonderful little device, and by far my favorite Raspberry Pi.

Every time I went in to Micro Center over the last couple of years, I would check the price of these, if $ = 5, I would buy one. I use them for home automation running Home Assistant. The 0w is not recommended for HA but I found that by using DietPi, faith and patience during install this works fine.

With HA I run mosquitto for MQTT and control more than 20 ESP8266 based wifi switches and sensors and still have processing/memory headroom. I also use one to amazingly simplify my 3d printing workflow by running Octoprint on a 0w.

Although the Octoprint developer specifically points out that the 0w has insufficient horsepower to run it, it works fine with the lightweight Dietpi menu driven OS. Just don’t try to slice with it. I use a separate 0w with a camera to monitor my 3d prints.

These things make great secure web servers for specific tasks, support PKI and DDNS.

The long-term customers who need 1 RPI for a project are getting ripped off by commercial operations that are buying and reselling at a 500% markup. MicroCenter, you can do better than this.

Having the built-in wifi makes the Zero-W a nearly stand-alone solution for many tasks, with more than enough local intelligence. And the price is reasonable. (In fact it may be overkill for home automation, but for small quantities that’s not a bad way to go.

) My only real gripe us that the serial port normally available on the connectors is a minimal implementation, which is sensitive to the clock speed; the better serial hardware is connected to the Bluetooth transponder.

It’s reportedly possible to reconfigure things to expose the good port if you are willing to give up bluetooth, or you can give up the Pi’s adaptive click and lock it to a single speed; which is best depends on your needs, and of course not everyone needs a serial connection.

but I wish they’d given us two full ports or made the issue and solutions a bit better documented. (The port also runs at 3. 5V rather than 5V, but that is expected for modern logic; I’m adding a level-converter chip on a protoboard to solve that.

) So: not perfect for my needs, but pretty darned good for the price.

Extremely easy to get going with this. I tinkered very lighlty with Arduino in the past and wanted an easy way to make REST requests and display data pulled down to external displays. If you are familiar with Linux command line and python this is a must-have.

The Python GPIO module is easy to use and there are so many possibilities with this. I installed Rapsberry OS to get going and will probably stick with it. Very impressed with the pi, such a small device yet so much power.

Will definitely get a four and install retro pi at some point.

I would recommend your company to anyone & hope to call into the shop once the pandemic finishes My application monitoring my Solar panel output, heating & outside temperatures using 868GHZ radio links is required to be running continuously and was installed on a v2B+ but Stowmarket is the UK capital for power cuts (6 since Christmas) and each one has a high probability of corrupting the SD card often requiring the loss of data & a re-installation.

Since v3B+ can natively boot directly from an attached USB port, I paired it with a Micron MX500 SSD doing away with the SD card entirely. This drive has built in capacitors to hold the power long enough to finish any write cycle if the power is cut making for a much more robust system.

Having a few smart devices at home, I thought I’d start look into a way of integrating them and by using Home Assistant. A a starting point, it seemed that a Raspberry Pi was the cheapest and simplest solution.

I bought the cheaper Pi 3 Model B rather than the more expensive Model 4 with some concern that it may not be powerful enough however I’ve been blown away with how it has worked. The Pi arrived earlier than expected in pristine condition.

Works fine out of the box. It’s not as nippy as the 8GB version, which I also have. Slowish if used for Web surfing, but you get what you pay for. However it works just as well as the 8GB version when used with my Picotech Dr Daq and 1020 series ADC data logging systems and handles the real time graphing and computational tasks well.

Buying it has released my 8GB version for more interesting projects. It did have one advantage for me over the 8GB version in that it gave me the opportunity to install the earlier Aduino IDE version 1.

8 which has the Serial plotter option. The version 2. 0 IDE which I have on my 8GB pi doesn’t yet have the plotter option which is a serious omission if you want to plot real time data. If you just want the 4GB version for project work it will be absolutely fine and you will love it.

If you want it for use as a surrogate desktop PC it will be disappointing.

I bought the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 4GB to replace my old Steam Link hardware as it wasn’t capable of streaming 2160p. I nearly have 2160p 30Hz being streamed perfectly. I just have a couple of niggles I can hopefully work out.

I’d much prefer 60Hz if I can get it there. It streams 1080p great but I had the Steam Link hardware for that already. I couldn’t get the Pi to run Raspberry OS at 4K 60Hz. I enabled the option in the Pi Config tool and rebooted but it doesn’t get past the debug colour wheel on boot.

This might be a power issue though as I didn’t buy the official cable. I don’t have many other USB-C cables to try. I may purchase one at some point but the price is a little steep for me right now. A point for Pi Hut to note is that my letter box is vertical and near enough eye level.

I was near the door when the postie decided to drop it through. My heart sank as I knew that was going to be my Pi on the floor. Please can you post in something that won’t fit through a letter box or at least put fragile on the box.

I have no idea if that incident has impacted the life of my Pi. No immediate damage but who knows what that drop has done. If only he’d knocked. :(.

I was very excited to receive my first Raspberry Pi 8GB, amazing. Pretty nice kit I think, well packaged, looks good, and everything in its place. I would have like to see either a Fan Shim or Heatsinks included in the kit, the Pi4 runs pretty hot without cooling.

Once I got all the cables together and put my new system together I popped in the MicroSD card, connected the power and the Pi4 booted up immediately. I am very pleased with my experience ordering from Primoroni, it is a great source for Pi components and they provide excellent service.

I recommend the Pi 4 for anyone requiring an inexpensive home computer, and Primoroni for anyone purchasing computer products online.

I am reviewing the kit in its entirety as I believe some room for improvement. Packaging 4 stars, not 5 stars as the rubber feat for the pi case are inside the pi case with the pi, if I had powered this on without opening the case the rubber feat could have melted inside an potential to damage the PI.

Suggest rubber feat not stored inside the pi case. The PI case 3 stars out of 4. I could not run the Pi in this case without getting overheat warnings. Primary issue is there is no ventilation in this case design.

(Newer firmware my address some heat issues but i feel this case design is not suitable for a pi 4 out of the box without modification) Power supply, manual and cables 5 star everything you need to get started.

Keyboard 5 stars, usb pass through a bonus i was not expecting that, a few extra usb ports always welcome. would be nice if the keyboard used a usb-c connector but not worth marking it down. Mouse 3 stars, marked down the mouse I received has very sharp edges the red casing where it joins the white top not comfortable to hold would not cut you but would leave a mark if you dragged your hand along the edge.

Made my own modifications to correct that (invalidating the warranty I’m sure but is a mouse so not too bothered) To be clear this is a great starter kit and worth the money, just some quality issue that i feel could be improved on.

This is a lovely little kit with everything needed to get you up and running out of the box. Just hook this up to your monitor (or monitors) and your away, the pre-loaded memory card ensures your only a few clicks from basic functionality.

The Pi itself is very impressive and my opinion is that the investment for the 8gb is well worth the money. Whether using for retro gaming, as a server project, a desktop environment or for interfacing with other microcontrollers in electronic projects , the pi4 is a real Swiss-army knife and can have its function changed with a switch over to another memory card.

A great online community ensures there is always something fun to do.

Nice piece of kit, I unfortunately had an issue with the fan controller on the first one but the guys were great in helping. Helped troubleshoot and got me a replacement without too much hassle at all.

Every product line has the odd fault in reality, it’s how those faults are handled. Other than that hiccup functions on this board are great, easy to use and a good range of interface breakout. Fits hats on board nice and neat, locates them away from sources of heat so you get a more realistic reading from things like temperature/ humidity sensors and the like.

For our new development using the CM4 pi modules, we bought a CM4 IO Board, both so we could see the electrical layout for different components for the end solution and so we could configure and test with different IO.

This board has not disappointed us in this regard and we have already managed to move our project away from the standard pi4 devices over to CM4 devices so we can begin moving into the next stage of development.

for many years I bought from raspberry and the products are not bad. This bord arrives but cannot say anything because is missing module c 4 which is available next year.

The new Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera has exceeded all my expectations. It’s on a completely new level with regards to image quality, clarity and definition. For me the winning factor was the new range of professional lenses available from Pimoroni.

For my particular project I ordered the Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera, the Microscope stand with 0. 12-1. 8x lens and a Raspberry Pi Camera Cable 50cm. I inherited some 8mm and super-8 film from the 1960’s and wondered if I could improve on the digital scan of a lab.

The microscope lens was of particular interest as the exposed areas of an 8mm film is only 3. 3mmx4. 5mm. To my excitement the new lens was able to capture that area including the frame. Ideal for single frame frames at 4K resolution.

This CCD requires an external lens (many inexpensive options and adapters are available, or 3D print an adapter for one you might already have) and is powered by the ribbon cable to the Pi. Lens quality affects optical resolution, so be sure to pick something commensurate to your application.

Images and video look pretty good, better than the basic models by far, but isn’t necessarily better than an equivalent cost USB webcam from Logitech or using an old smartphone. If you have the Pis and the need to connect dedicated, quality cameras to them with minimal cordage, this is it.

A versatile camera sensor module, promoting experimentation with C-mount lenses. I have two of these camera sensor modules and I have several C-mount lenses. Some of the “television” lenses (typically these won’t be broadcast television) give good results.

I have a cheap Chinese CCTV zoom which is in general appalling in almost every way (CA, barrel distortion, unsharp) but for seven quid is an adequate tester. My best lens has been a vintage Taylor-Hobson cine lens, which has it’s own faults but produces rather magic results.

The sensor in this Raspberry Pi High Quality camera is about the same as the sensor in the first generation Pentax Q camera (I used to have a couple of those, with a range of lenses for it) and those cams can produce remarkably good results.

A lens for that camera in a certain focal length would give about the same angle of view on this RPHQ sensor.

The power switch is wonderful! All the power supplies should all have one! On the raspberry pi, it certainly cuts down on the wear and tear of plugging in the power cable, and is also much simpler for me.

Nice power supply works fine with my pi 4 and the added bonus of a really handy switch to turn it off and what’s more it also turns it on! Awesome

I bought the Pi 3 for a specific project: building a Pi-hole. In my book Pi 3 is better than Pi 4 for this. Headless, background, low functional demand and low power consumption. great. I don’t even need the full bandwidth of the lower performance ethernet interface as the total traffic bandwidth of a DNS server is not all that much, so that’s not an issue.

Less power, less heat and plenty of bandwidth for its intended function = great! Being a few bucks cheaper than a Pi 4 makes it even better. :).

This single board computer probably has the best variety of operating system choices (variations of Linux) available, and there are probably more forum posts, project instructions, and publications that for any other board of this type.

The only issues I have encountered so far are: 1) The amount of RAM is only 1GB total, so some Linux apps you might consider running on a Raspberry Pi may need to grab too more than that to run properly, and since the OS runs from an SD card, there are not really good options for adding “swap” space.

2) Getting the on-board peripherals to work reliably is a challenge. For instance, the bluetooth firmware and OS-level drivers seem to be perpetually out of synch, meaning you might have to research it and downgrade something to get it working.

One aspect of the way this product is marketed is that the price doesn’t reflect what you really need to get it running. Add about $10 for a power supply, $5 for an enclosure, and another $10 for a microSD card at a minimum.

If you intend to use it like a desktop computer, add another $10 for a cheap USB Keyboard/Mouse combo, and another $10 for an HDMI cable. And don’t forget that you’d also need some kind of HDMI monitor or TV.

If you are using the PI as a mini computer connecting via the main ports USB, Ethernet, HDMI etc. then this is a nice case. the sides and top are solid metal (though the top has a removable clip-on plastic cover).

This metal makes direct contact with the Pi CPU (via a thermal pad) and so it all runs warm but not hot to the touch with CPU temp well controlled. Note: the base is plastic. Main downside is no access to the expansion header or camera, so if you want to use these, you need a different solution.

So happy, I now have 3 of these now, 2 permanently in use and the 3rd is my test unit.

Needed a case for my new Pi 4 and although I usually opt for the official plastic version I decided on this FLIRC case because I wanted a clean simple look and something that could offer some passive cooling if necessary.

Was pleased with how the case looked when it arrived and came with four screws to hold everything together. There was also a thermal pad included that just needs to be applied to the appropriate place before installing the Pi.

Installation was simple, taking less than 5 minutes. The case is a great fit and the Pi is looking very smart.

Absolutely awesome little case. Really solid little piece that holds the pi securely and looks good whilst doing so. Gives it a really professional look and feel. One thing that could make this stand out (this is a personal preference, so not in any way a lacking feature) would be if there was a little bracket to hold a card detailing what the Pi board and OS was.

As it was I’ve used a sticky label, but that would be a great addition. Very pleased, will definitely be buying this case again.

I was extremely happy with the RPi 400. It has remarkably good performance, was fairly straightforward to set up, used very little power, and just worked. Notice the past tense? Yesterday it froze up, and when power-cycled the power LED didn’t light.

Dead as a doornail. I was using it to run the BOINC client, which (if not throttled) will use all CPUs near maximum capacity. Several online sources say (now that I look) that a Pi will overheat if you do that for long periods of time.

Apparently I cooked it, and since I bought it in February, it’s well past warranty. So they’re great, but if you plan to do compute-intensive stuff for a long time, buy a fan or heat sink or both.

I’ve owned the Raspberry Pi B and the Raspberry Pi 2B, both were neat little boards that were fun to tinker with. However, the Pi 400 is in its own league. I can safely call this the first true Pi that can run as a computer.

I personally hooked up a 4TB External Drive and turned my Pi 400 into a Plex Media Server. Runs smoothly with no hiccups, can run around 6 simultaneous streams from it with no problem. If you need a cheap computer for basic internet browsing or if you want to do what I did and need a computer for a media server, look no further.

If you’re looking at different models of Pi’s, you already know about their reliability. This Pi is perfect when you need no-frills computing power in a portable and affordable package. We’re using several of these Pi 400’s to power digital signage – so, the keyboard is nice for initial set up, but in our use case I haven’t needed to touch it since.

Having power over ethernet is nice for a couple of locations, but on a couple of displays I’m powering via the USBC port and relying on the wifi for network connection. I’ve had no issues with any of the 7 units I recently purchased, and I’m looking for more excuses to pick up a few more!.

The version of NOOBS that was provided doesnt work with Raspberry Pi 3 mod B+. However, the card itself is excellent value for money and it was easy to install the latest version of NOOBS on it. The title of this item seems to be truncated and it would help if it could be clarified exactly what version of NOOBS is being provided.

I bought the card in error wanting one specific to the Raspberry Pi Zero. Apart from a short time to adjust the Fat File (it did this automatically) & works well. Noobs saved a lot of time in down loading & writing my own SD Card.

Noobs preloaded was a nice advantage for someone not versed with Linux, I just wish the PI could go larger than 32Gb

Overall, this is a decent display with good viewing angles with the following limitations: 1. By default, the monitor is generally too bright. There is no brightness control. Therefore in darker environments it is challenging to use.

2. There is no input video detection with automatic conversion of aspect ratio. There are no options to manually pick an aspect ratio. This is a 4:3 monitor. If a 16:9 signal is input to the monitor (e.

g. from a camera), the image gets stretched vertically. The use case for this monitor is therefore limited to computers with drivers that handle the aspect ratio differences in software. Therefore this is not useable with HD cameras, camcorders or video switchers which is unfortunate since the size and price are ideal for a small confidence monitor.

Got this a couple days ago and so far it is really great. It’s nice having a decent resolution on such a small screen. No set up, other than plugging it in, is required. Paired with a wireless keyboard, it’s an awesome little setup.

Smaller than your smart phone, powered by a phone charger, and storage via micro sd card, silent and great for various projects. A great way into learning coding, programming, linux and so much more.

What a little beast this is! Small compact! I would recommend using a little heatsink and a fan for the main CPU if you are doing CPU intensive task! It’s not mandatory

This was my first raspberry its a great little computer I recommend it for learners and pros and for small to large computer jobs

It is everything you need it to be, just add an HDMI interfaced TV, a USB computer keyboard and whatever hardware you need e.g. MIDI, RS232, Remote Controls etc etc and write some code!

Arrived promptly, the item when started had no power to USB ports but luckily this was an easy fix for me but perhaps not everyone can do the repair so I suggest checking before posting other than that it works fine.

I got this development set to make a retro game system very much like the ones you see on ebay for 100+. With a bit of work and a few pounds spent on a fan i was able to reach my goal at a fraction of the price.

Very simple to do and if you have the time very worth while.

I gave it to my kid and I’m really glad to see how easy and funny it is to make things with it. Even some complex things are easy to be made due to the amount of information available at the internet!

Fantastic value. Using it to run Raspberry Pi OS as well as Ubuntu and Manjaro. I just have each OS on a separate Micro SD card. All three OSs work well. Ubuntu is a little slow but Manjaro and Raspberry Pi OS run really well.

Can’t fault it for the money and Pimoroni had one in stock which was a bonus given how hard they are to find at the moment. I’ve hooked it up to a Full HD monitor via HDMI. Cracking bit of kit. I had a couple of issues; the OE mouse scroll wheel did not work but I had a spare Logitech which is nicer anyway.

Also, With Raspberry PI OS you must force an update straight away as there are some issues on the stock OS that the update fixes. Out of the box with the stock OS, the Wi-Fi connection is flakey but after the update it is rock solid.

Basically, if you have a monitor, you get a fully functional desktop PC for under £100. It’s perfect for general productivity and browsing but a bit lacking for media and great for starting out learning to code or master Linux.

Amazing bundle; Raspberry Pi finally has a form factor that makes it as approachable as the micro computers that inspired it. The unit itself is small but feels rugged, and boots from the included SD card in a few seconds.

The included mouse matches the design and colour scheme and is perfectly adequate for its needs. The bundled software is, of course, a fully functional Linux distribution, so if you were just after a small, keyboard-sized computer for general office and web-browsing needs it’ll suffice completely, but if you wanted to explore the vast swathes of open source software available, that opportunity is also catered for.

but the real magic comes in the accompanying book, and the bundling of all of this together. It covers, in an accessible and practical way, plenty of basic computer science with practical programming exercises, and goes on to expand on simple electronics projects that can be built out quite cheaply to attach to the GPIO header and see the RPi making ‘real’ things happen.

I’m now seriously considering buying several of these bundles for nephews and nieces this year. I was fortunate to grow up in a time when home computer magazines, rather than trying to sell you the latest graphics card, would e.

I bought this kit, together with a Bluetooth mouse, a USB C power switch, and a sleeve. It was easy to set up – and I now have Thunderbird and Firefox set up the way I like them. The computer is connected to a 4K monitor.

This setup ensures the Pi 400 is always on – and so I’m more likely to experiment with it. Since purchasing I’ve used the built in SD card writer to upgrade to a 128GB Micro-SD card and from Buster to Bullseye.

(I would recommend doing the latter BEFORE you customise the machine – so a fresh install. ) I’ve given this 5 stars as this is all very nice. However, I would love to see a “Deluxe Bundle” – with the Bluetooth mouse, sleeve, and USB-C power switch in.

Such a bundle would include a 32GB Micro SD card with Bullseye preloaded. (I happened to have the spare 128GB Micro-SD card so I’m not recommending 128GB in general. ) I wouldn’t replace what I’ve just bought with such a Deluxe Bundle, of course, as I’m very happy with what I have.

I love my IQaudiO DigiAMP. Great sound. Which explains why Raspberry Pi has adopted the DigiAMP+ as a Raspberry Pi product.

I’ve been experimenting with Pi hats and a newbee to this way of streaming audio. If you don’t have an amp, the IQuadio is an excellent solution.

This is the best microcontroller I have ever tested. It has a very low price, 264KB of RAM, which is a lot if you compare it to other microcontrollers. It is also very beginner-friendly because it has a big community.

It can also be used as a human interface device (HID) which is my favorite feature, You can make a keyboard, mouse, a game controller and much more. I have made an rgb lamp with it and I’m currently making an analog USB handbrake.

Large number of multi-purpose IO pins. Really clever programmable IO rather than specific modules for I2C, SPI, UART, etc. Great price. Cons: No built in wifi or Bluetooth. Doesn’t come with headers.

Built-in LED is single colour.

While not quite an accurate title, this little micro controller is a fantastic wee bargain. It accommodates who are new to microcontrollers but can also be expanded to those people with a bit more experience.

And for the price, these things cannot be beaten if yo need to get hold of one quickly! Side note, make sure you purchase some header pins if you need them as the Pico does not come with any!.
