Best Nonfiction Books For Teens (2026 Updated)

I purchased this book and workbook for my teenage son. He loves it. I use this as a parenting tool. I regularly ask him, does your red book say anything about this situation? He instantly remembers or hl goes to check and updates me.

He referenced it himself when a circumstance occurred. He said, mom this situation shows me why I should keep studying and continue applying while being responsible.

This version of the worldwide bestselling ‘7 Habits’ is by Stephen’s son, and is a cracking read. Puts the 7 habist in a easy to understand format and gives ‘baby steps’ to develop each habit. This is all supported by Sean Covey’s really good website.

I couldn’t recommend this book higher. Everyone should own two or three!.

I have a teenager and we’ll we know how teenagers are. This book has really helped and couldn’t be happier.

I bought several copies of this book to use in the classroom and have been extremely satisfied. I work with at-risk youth who have been expelled from the district for a number of reasons, particularly drug use.

The kids are looking for ways to self-medicate because they lack the skills to cope in healthy ways. This book uses common language and light humor to address the life skills necessary to create a healthy, happy and productive life, and I’ve found that most kids are making the much needed connections between how they’re thinking, feeling and behaving.

I read from it daily and use it to facilitate powerful conversations. I have also found the companion journal extremely valuable and highly recommend both!.

This book is great for Teens. It helps them deal with everyday issues and puts it in terms that they can understand and apply to there lives. Goes great with the workbook.

As a parent of teenage twin boys and 20 -year teaching veteran, I first heard of this book from a high school student. After speaking to the newly inspired reader, I borrowed the book. The same night, I ordered two copies for home that will eventually land in my lending library.

The writing is accessible and easily understandable. The difficult topic of how to motivate teens is effectively addressed. There is a religious message within the text, but it is not overwhelming or alienating for someone who doesn’t feel as strongly or of the same faith.

My teens resisted (imagine that) reading a nonfiction book — at first. Then, they started really reading the content. Fight over. My family of five is all reading the book; with only 2 copies, we have to share.

There is no doubt we will finish and come away stronger: alone and together. Overall, a great read for teens, parents who want to understand and motivate them, and teachers who want to educate them.

Finally a book that tells one of the greatest problems in America and what to do about it. Too many lazy people that are addicted to technology and not willing to do the “hard things” that made this country great.

That’s one reason why this country is going down hill.

I love this author and believe she has done a wonderful job expressing to teens how our minds can lead us into wrong thinking and destroy our future. She lines up scripture with the right and wrong things teens are doing.

Reading the way she lays it out helps teens understand what can and does happen when they live only for the flesh. I would love if our schools could give our children the choice to learn this at a small age, their lives would be so much easier to live and handle.

God bless all who read this and favor them so they will feel the need to buy for the teen in their lives. Try looking at the Battlefield of the Mind for kids, age appropriate to comprehend.

Joyce is the best! Read this book to my kids while our family was driving to vacation. One interrupted me to recite a bible verse! Very compelling content; relevant to younger and older teens. Think about what you are thinking about!.

This is a must read for all teenagers and youth. It is through the doorway of the mind that good or bad behavior is contemplated and planned. The Battlefield is the Mind and Meyer and Hafer present a good Bible based and common sense approach to this most important topic.

The teenagers I have given the book to read have seen improvements in their thought lives.

4. 5 stars. I’m just really stingy with my fives. This review is also available on my blog Read Till Dawn. It’s highly misleading of the synopsis to suggest that the mnemonic is the focus of the entire book.

He doesn’t even mention it until over halfway through! He spends the first half of the book explaining his own humble beginnings and tracing his path to success. Then he turns around and tells the reader how you too can become a famous neurosurgeon by following this one simple trick! Haha no that’s not what he says.

Really I think he just wanted a nice kind of gimmicky mnemonic to help people remember his advice. And let me just say it’s definitely solid. He traces his early life and career in what is for those of us who have read any of his other books partly a review.

To be fair he did mention things I hadn’t read in the other books focusing more on his study habits than on his relationship with God this time around but there was still quite a bit of overlap. I suppose for some this might be kind of annoying but for me it was nice to get a refresher and see exactly what he did in his own life to become successful.

I wasn’t sure if he was going to be one of those people who becomes successful one way then turns around and advises something completely different for those who want to get ahead in life. By showing his own life and what worked and didn’t for him he proved to me (and to anyone else who reads his book) that he’s not just making this stuff up – the ideas presented in T.

H. I. N. K. B. I. G. really were the ones that helped him climb to the top. As a teen I found a lot of practical advice that I am definitely going to work on implementing in my own life. By putting the practical advice in the last few chapters he makes it very easy to go back and reread concise instructions for applying each step in T.

H. I. N. K. B. I. G. I’m in the middle of a book about study techniques entitled Make It Stick that I have to say is probably the most rambling. boring nonfiction I’ve ever read. I’d have quit it long ago if it weren’t for the fact I’m required to finish it for English.

After reading the mess of advice examples and anecdotes running rampant in Make it Stick I really appreciated the way that Carson separates his anecdotes from his advice in a way that actually makes his anecdotes interesting but separate from his advice.

Do you need to read this if you’re an adult who has read his other books? Probably not unless you’ve got a burning desire to read everything the man writes. Should you read it if you’re a student or the parent of a student trying to prepare for academic success? Most definitely.

While Carson’s approach may not work for all of us (I think it’s pretty obvious he’s got a natural advantage in the brain department – pun intended!) there’s still a lot of good info in there about study habits choosing a career and remembering to focus on God before all else.

Autobiographical book tells of Carson’s journey from a troubled childhood to an elite brain surgeon. He shares many helpful insights that have helped him to have such a successful life.

got this for my almost teenage son. he really enjoyed it. We have had discussions together on it too. Dr Carson is one of his favorite roll models. And if Carson played any professional sports, he’d be the #1 role model of all role models LOL.

Bought this for my son. Great book to help them with their prayers, and building their relationship with God. The content is on their level and really speaks to them and addresses issues teens have in the early years of life.

Great book for teens.Understanding at a teen’s level. Bought a few copies for my boy’s to use as a daily devotional reader beside daily Bible reading.

I have read several of her books and shared them with family and friends. I had never gotten the teen one just in time. I needed it. Wow!!!!

These daily devotions are geared for teen boys, written by other teen boys. Every topic is of interest to them or issues they may be dealing with. Bible verses are short enough to keep their attention but long enough to gain insight from the daily reading.

Each day has its own date so they always know where to read. A daily devotion usually takes about 3-4 minutes. Any kid has time for that!.

Got this as an Easter gift for my 14 year old Godson. He has been reading it and says he can understand the devotional messages which is usually difficult for a teen

The young man who received this devotion book for Christmas was really appreciative and said he will let his friends know about it.

I bought this book for a teenager who I know is a ‘cutter’ & has had some rough times in her unstable family. Before I had the chance to give it to her, I read some of the stories. They were awesome !.

I have read the original BOUNDARIES book by Henry Cloud and John Townsend, and I thought this book would be helpful in applying those truths to my relationship with my teenager. I am glad I got this book.

It is good to see things from the perspective of the relationship with my teen and how to give her the boundaries – and the freedoms – she needs in the proper proportions. Sometimes as parents we overcompensate because of guilt in one area with our teens by letting down the barriers (boundaries) in another area because we think they will balance out, but we are not doing justice to our teens when we do this.

They need good, healthy, balanced structure and boundaries, and this book gives practical insight and applications for how to do that successfully. I recommend this book to any parent of a teenager.

I like the way the book is set out in useful chapters. Gives some really good ideas not too sure about the religious references but I have found it an interesting read and very thought provoking. A reassurance that I am not too far off the mark.

I bought this for my daughter who is nearly 13 as she was a bit negative about her achievements at school & she lacked confidence in test situations. She took the book to school to read in reading time & since then she has exceeded in every subject especially maths which she was under achieving in!! She is now either on target or above so she & us as parents are over the moon.

She has also written a wish list & they are achievable goals so I am sure they will come to fruition. I highly recommend this book & it a nice read for adults too.

This is the second TeenPower book I have purchased – both for my grand-daughter’s. What a difference it has made to their life. It is so simple, yet so empowering. Bought this book for my little sister, who has been through a lot in such a short amount of time. I think reading stories about other people going through rough times and what not might help make her feel better and understand that everyone has hard times and can move on from them.

I decided to buy this book for my little brother who is in jail for some stupid actions. He was extremely happy that someone thought of sending him a book. He must have mentioned 3 or 4 times how good the book was and kept on going about some story and poem ect.

Well worth the money for this kind of response.

I’ve read all of Mr. Gladwell’s books and if you’re only going to read one, IMO, this is his most important, and at the risk of hyperbole, I’ll call it brilliant. He argues, and supports with substantial evidence, the idea that sheer luck plays an enormous role in how our lives turn out.

He stops short of taking the extreme deterministic position agreed upon by, oh, Einstein, Freud, and BF Skinner, to name a few of the 20th centuries most influential thinkers, but many readers will have their minds opened to consider that possibility more seriously.

The book is also the story of failure. I guess if that had been incorporated into the title it would have been less appealing. And although examples of failure due to bad luck are no doubt far more common than The Beatles or Steve Jobs, thus who experience failure, also because of (bad) luck, don’t stick out to be studies and included.

If there’s a weakness it’s that examples that con’t support his thesis are ignored. On the other hand. if his thesis is correct, and I think it is, there are no contradictory example. Outliers is, IMO, a truly great book.

I can’t thin of a book I’d recommend more highly.

A book that challenges the stereo type thinking of who is an exceptional person or group of people. The author has demonstrated that outliers are products of history and community, of opportunity and legacy.

Their success is not exceptional or mysterious. It is grounded in a web of advantages and inheritances, some deserved, some not, some earned, some just plain lucky, but all critical to making them who they are.

The book has so many examples of circumstances but the wonderful example of the Jewish emigre family to New York, the Borgenichts’ showed how Louis and Regina may have been tired and poor and overwhelmed.

For Louis being his own boss and making his own decisions, engaging his mind and imagination resulted in a relationship between effort and reward. The three things – autonomy, complexity and connection between effort and reward are, most people agree, the three qualities that work has to have if it has to be satisfying.

Meaningfulness is very important in one’s job or task for us to excel in it. Hard work is a prison sentence only if it does not have meaning. Once it does, it becomes the kind of thing that makes you grab your wife around the waist and dance a jig.

For me, a crucial lesson to those who want to tackle the upper reaches of a profession is if you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desire.

Working hard is what successful people do. Even for subjects like mathematics, it’s not ability as attitude. Success is a function of persistence and doggedness and the willingness to work. As the Chinese say “No one who can rise before dawn three hundred city days a year fails to make his family rich”.

In summary, outliers are those who have been given opportunities and who have had the strength and presence of mind to seize them. As the author summarises, “The outlier, in the end, is not an outlier at all.

A classic book which looks at success through a different lense. Lots of books out there look at success via meritocracy etc. whereas looking at success through Gladwell’s lense we see things a lot more clearly.

He is unique and a great author and writer. An influential book and Gladwell somewhat a thought leader because of it. Nice printing job, buy the hardcover and keep it for life. Very happy I bought this again as a hard cover.

4. 5★s “There are clues to making sense of a stranger. But attending to them requires care and attention. We should accept the limits of our ability to decipher strangers. ” Talking To Strangers is the sixth book by British author, Malcolm Gladwell.

Is it a book about social interaction? Yes, certainly, but not so much a “how to” as a “why do we get it wrong”. Gladwell explores the reasons that we seem to be so bad at telling when strangers are lying to us.

He does this with reference to a myriad of psychological experiments, research, case studies and examples. Gladwell holds that we are successfully deceived by strangers through a combination of three main reasons: the fundamentally human tendency to default to believing we are being told the truth; that facial expression and demeanour are much less reliable than we believe; and context matters a great deal.

“We fall out of truth-default mode only when the case against our initial assumption becomes definitive. We do not behave, in other words, like sober-minded scientists, slowly gathering evidence of the truth or falsity of something before reaching a conclusion.

We do the opposite. We start by believing. And we stop believing only when our doubts and misgivings rise to the point where we can no longer explain them away. ” Gladwell cites examples of Cuban spies and the CIA, Hitler and Chamberlain, Bernie Madoff and the SEC, the Penn State Paedophile Case, a murder in Perugia, and more “If every coach is assumed to be a p3dophile, then no parent would let their child leave the house, and no sane person would ever volunteer to be a coach.

We default to truth-even when that decision carries terrible risks-because we have no choice. Society cannot function otherwise. And in those rare instances where trust ends in betrayal, those victimized by default to truth deserve our sympathy, not our censure.

” Gladwell talks about whistle blowers, bail judges, alcoholic blackout and sexual assault, the effects of torture on.

Super book Talking to Strangers I love all author Malcolm Gladwells books. His unique perspective helps the reader to see things in different ways. He opens your mind to accepting new ideas! This book allows you to unlearn ways of making assumptions about people you dont know.

Maybe I missed something but I failed to recognise anything useful in this book. His style is annoying. His use of confected mystery disguised as some form of wisdom and analyses simply confuses his message and his message is never really clear.

If the best that can be said is that his commentary is thought provoking, that is a poor excuse for this writing. I can’t understand the acclaim he receives.

Author Connie Albers has written a well thought out manual for successfully navigating the teen years! With 30 years of parenting 5 children and working with teens for 20 years, Connie does a wonderful job giving support and advice to parents.

I was immediately encouraged upon beginning the book, as Connie relates some of her family’s struggles during the teen years. She provides thoughtful, balanced approaches that take into considerations not only the physical, hormonal and societal challenges teens face, but also the way parents respond to those challenges.

Often it is the negative reactions teens get from well meaning parents that cause isolation, anger or withdrawal, in many cases. In order to parent well, we also must look internally at our own hearts.

Communication is essential to reaching teens, and Connie does an effortless job of carefully explaining how the attitudes we bring into our parenting journey can affect our children. We either vow to be nothing like our parents (some with good reason) or to be just like the parents we admire.

Both choices require the loss of our own identity and parenting skills that perhaps those other parents did not have. Connie urges us to take stock of what skills, benefits and experiences we have from our childhoods to craft and create our own version of the best family for our teens to flourish in.

Often in parenting books, you find there are easy answers for tough questions. “Change this, do that and your kids will ______ better because of those things. ” However, Connie takes that notion and spins it–how much responsibility and accountability do you have for yourself and the choices you make–in order to shift our focus from our teen’s issues to those we carry into parenting.

You don’t have to look to the family next door, your perfect sister or the parenting gurus. God gave you your teens for a reason. He knew it would be an uphill climb, but not one you can’t do.

You don’t have to be a parent of a teen to improve your parenting skills. This book should be on the reading list for anyone that has influence with children. I learned a long time ago that the relationship and heart condition is much more important vs than simple obedience from our children.

Connie digs deep into understanding the heart and attitude of your teens in order to develop life changing relationships. My favorite quote from the book is: “Boundaries and rules are important and healthy, but they function best in the context of relationship.

Creating this type of healthy relationship with your teen looks like establishing trust, allowing freedom, communicating well and staying consistent. ” It does take a mind shift from traditional parenting but once you start to focus on the “heart reasons” behind the behaviors, you will see such a change in your teen that will also better prepare them for making decisions once they are no longer in your home.

It is up to us to prepare our children to handle the struggles in life. This book provides you the tools to do just that!.
