20 Best No Pull Harness For Large Dogs (2023 Updated)

Our 7 month-old Lab/Boxer mix does well not pulling on walks, until she sees a squirrel/bird/person/bicycle, and then it’s chaos. She’s not aggressive, just very, very enthusiastic. One day she lunged at a little boy and his grandmother out on a morning walk, and they RAN AWAY.

I was so mortified, I decided right then and there that something needed to be done. After a neighbor told me about her harness she used for her dogs, I looked up this harness. I thought it was surely too good to be true.

Chewy not only replaced it with the right size and took care of shipping, but left the wrong-sized harness with me to donate to my local shelter.

This harness has definitely reduced my anxious little dog’s pulling on walks. If we walk alone, he even acts like he’s been to a trainer– walks right next to me the whole time. The way the harness is designed works best if your dog is walking next to you, or just a few feet in front.

If they’re farther away than that, the harness is against their side. My dog does a neat little dance move where he either walks completely sideways like a little tap dancer, or just tries to walk with his butt out to one side.

Any excess strap at the front of the harness pulls out to the side as well. The asymmetrical nature of the harness is so horrifying to my FIL that he puts the harness on upside down, with the lead coming from behind the shoulders.

This works in a pinch. Overall, this harness has improved our walks.

I have two large silver labradors who get at least one walk daily–Bruiser is almost 5 years old, 90lbs, and has been an angel on leash since he was a puppy. My Rambo is 3 years old, 78 lbs, and I’ve been consistently working with him on leash walking since he was a puppy.

He is atrocious on leash despite trying obedience classes, clicker training, various styles of harnesses, and various training methods. He is a little leash reactive, highly prey driven, and likes to move very fast.

He has begun pulling away from dog walkers which was the last straw, and at their recommendation I tried the Gentle Leader as a last ditch attempt. I followed the guidelines for introducing the Gentle Leader very closely as I needed this transition to go smoothly.

He accepted it quickly once he realized it meant treats, and from the first walk with it I was sold. He still tries to pull with it on, but the difference now is he isn’t getting away from walkers, pulling arms out of sockets, or pulling people behind him like Marmaduke.

The combination of the Gentle Leader and constant reinforcement of good walking behavior has made him a pleasure to walk. To be honest, he hates the Gentle Leader–it takes patience and a treat to get it on him–but I actually think he is also enjoying walks more now that we’re not both frustrated.

Before you use, make sure the fit is exactly right so your dog isn’t uncomfortable or able to get out of it. As a backup, I also put his collar on him. I had some doubts and reservations about this product but it was life changing for us, and I’m even about to buy him a second one because I use it to take him to the off-leash lake and it’s getting muddy and gross.

Hopefully as we continue to work on his leash manners, one day we’ll be able to transition away from it.

We have a slender, silky coated hound who is wiggly, at just a year. She appears to be a mix of greyhound and Rhodesian ridgeback, very muscular. She can slip out of many harnesses that are not covering enough of her torso.

We put on the tactical vest, and not only did it fit well and give ud more control and confidence on the leash, but it relieved my fears of Penny breaking out in a dead run to who-knows-where. ) she does have a chip).

We are happy with the tactical vest! Yes, Penny has a long neck, barrel chest, and narrow abdomen. I’m so glad she has a safe and humane way to guide her.

This is probably the best harness I came across. I liked it so much that I have four for my two GSD dogs which undergo continuous training. I was impressed with the quality altogether. The lining is from a soft fabric which is kind for the dogs during their intense training periods.

The under chest part embraces the dog very well without restricting the movements of their front legs. Important advice is to check the table and measure the dogs dimensions in order to get the correct size.

Very good price, very good quality, my dog a pittbull that use to get loose all the time from his other collars that he simply would break off cause he is very strong. Would highly recommend this. plus he seems to love it it looks very comfortable in it.

We’ve been looking for the perfect harness for our 16lb dachshund for ages. We’ve been through a few but they never seem to be right. This one is. Although I think we got one size too large for her, it still works well for her cinched to the tightest setting.

They have this really well thought out ‘locking’ slider thing that holds the straps into place when the leash isn’t pulled taut. Really smart. My one criticism is that the plastic clasps and rings on it feels a little cheap.

Like, I expect the clasp will be the first thing to break on this. Those little plastic slider clasps always seem to break eventually but this one makes me feel like it will not last a year. That is unfortunate as the overall design is very impressive and works very well.

If it does break, I’ll likely buy another but will probably shop for a different manufacturer to see if this weakpoint is addressed better. Just a slightly more robust plastic would have made this thing absolutely perfect.

Overall, really good harness at a decent price.

I spent years trying to find a harness to fit my Shih Tzu. It doesn’t matter the brand, the X-small is always too small and the small is too big. But the medium of this harness fits perfectly. We ended up going back to the store and getting another one for a friend who had the same sizing issues.

The fact this is also an escape free harness (I have had issues with my boy getting out) is a bonus. It seems to work but I’ve only had it for about a a week now. The only downside is the rings are plastic instead of metal like other harnesses.

They’re also big so it’s chunky at times getting a leash attached. But I find that’s a minor drawback for a harness that actually fits.

This was the third time I had visited your store for a harness for my puppy. The first two purchases did not fit her correctly, I live by a very busy road, and wanted Sadie (my puppy) to be more than extra safe when I took her outside.

So, on my third visit, I brought Sadie with me. Dave helped us find the right harness, right fit, and Sadie was very comfortable with Dave while he fitted her in the right harness. I was treated well the other two times I visited your store.

The harness helps with the pulling problem, but doesn’t work to correct the problem. The ones that go across the snout of the dog and pull his/her nose down are much more effective, but this is for a French bulldog with no nose! In addition, the harness is difficult to get on and off his head.

I don’t believe it is worth the cost.

Well made, although my dog is strong & he can rip threw stitching. But for him it last longer than most.

This is not a Joyride harness. I thought it would work like a Joyride but the front adjustable chest strap does not stay adjusted if he starts to pull so thusly shortly into our walk I have to stop retighten around his chest and proceed on.

this happens several times on a 2 mile walk, ugh. I kept it though for future use once he stops pulling. It is a nice harness, though, I like the fit on him and he doesn’t seem to mind it, either. I would not recommend this harness for pullers, though, your pet will not be safe and can easily come out of the harness if they pull hard enough nor did nothing with pulling.

I used a different training method to stop his pulling. This harness will work well with dogs who do not pull. I choose the bright red color to match his outdoor jacket which is appealing against his tri-colored coat.

The fabric is sturdy and easily cleaned.

I bought this for my 3 1/2-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix. She is very stout and strong as heck and gets way too excited for every outing. We have been using the easy walk but as she has bulked up over the years it was irritating her in the “armpit” area.

This is a very well-made harness. It appears extremely sturdy, easy to put on and seems to be comfortable. My only concern is that it does absolutely nothing to reduce the pulling. Because the leash attachment is on the back between my dog shoulder blades it does nothing to deter her.

After we’ve been walking for about 20 to 30 minutes she mellows out and we have a very nice time but until then it’s a bit of a battle. So I’m torn between my comfort and hers. Right now her comfort is winning and I am still on the hunt for a harness that is both comfortable and effective.

I volunteer at my local shelter where this is their main harness. Through working at my local shelter I handle many different dogs with different levels of energy. With the calm dogs just about any harness would be easy to put on them, however, with the hard to handle dogs that’s where I really see this harness shine.

With other harnesses they can be hard to put on, especially those step-in harnesses. As much as those step-in harnesses try to make it seem so easy because all your dog has to do is step in, it’s a lot harder than you’d think with a dog that won’t stand still.

With this harness I almost never have an issue putting it on and with the “clasp” on the back it makes for tightening it a breeze. Also, when you tighten the harness it creates some extra “length” that you can hold on to in case of an emergency.

[whether you need the dog super close to your or the leash isn’t on the dog for some reason] With other harnesses you’d have to totally bend down to hold the harness, with this, unless your dog is micro, you can use it like a “leash” if you need to.

Also, with some dogs at the shelter they do not like being touched around their stomach so tightening this is super easy since it’s on the dog’s back. All in all I love this harness having used many different kinds on various types of dogs.

As I stated above, with calm dogs any type of harness will be easy, it’s with the hard dogs you really see which harness is actually easy or not, this one is so easy!.

They dont even have to step into it (translation: we don’t have to lift their legs for them when they’re tired) 2. The main issue that have with this one is the leash excess (~ 1 ft w/ a 70# retriever) that remains after it is tightened.

*Have to clip leash to main metal guide & either wrap excess around center of harness or let dangle: if used as designed as is you’ll have your half pound metal leash hook bounce on their back and knock them in their side the entire time.

The Atlas harness is very easy to put on my very excitable 43lb 7mo standard poodle. I appreciate that there is not fumbling around with finding the right direction and connecting multiple latches. It is sturdy and thus far the uniquely designed magnetic latch has held up well.

Midnight has chewed through three other “no pull” type harnesses and has yet to make a dent in this one. Her frame is a little small for the medium and adjusting has been a bit of a challenge. I find the loop area where the leash is connected to be too loose.

Clearly a owner operating issue but a con for me if I had to note. Overall, it does job and I’m satisfied. I am secure in the lifetime guarantee as well.

Chinese junk ! Size specs are inaccurate. First one hasp broke 2 months dean and Tyler replaced. Second one weak springs in hasp. This one I bought used because medium is almost to large for my dog this one is way too small! They are supposed to cross fit.

Durable and dependable. Easy to clean and long lasting. Has held up well for a few years now. Good investment

I was super glad to find this harness for our pup. She’s an 85 lb German Shepherd who is still working on training and walking etiquette. We previously had an easy-walk harness with the front clip and I LOVED it for training as it helps dogs turn around and look at you when the leash is pulled on.

I love that this harness has options for easy-walk adjacent leash clip as well as a back leash clip, which we use to clip her car seat belt into. I also love the durability of the harness; like I said, she’s still learning and is SUPER strong but this harness holds up and just from looking at it you can tell the stitching and make is solid.

Haven’t had a chance to try it during beach trips to see how it handles water but I’m sure it’ll be fine based on our experience so far. It’s also very cute on her and the color isn’t too loud like other harnesses you see on the market.

Have bought Blueberry products before and always pleased with quality. This harness surpasses any harness I have purchased before. A little tricky to fit but when adjusted right it fits well, and that is a hard to do with my overweight wiggly pug mix who resists any harness and squims out of everything.

Bought her a medium because of weight issue. so far so good Will purchase another for my other small mix , now that I know I can fit it to him.

I love this product. I have 5 dogs. From toy poodle to labrador. Ranging from Puppy to adult. Each one has this harness. This harness is the Best. It is made up of soft fabric, but sturdy. The part by the neck to around the legs has extra cushioning to stop rubbing, and sores.

It also has a handle on top, which is very handy. The only thing that is wrong with this harness is that it has a velcro patch that states service dog. The solution is simple just take off the patch.

My dog is medium size. I would say is she can escape and wriggle out of it quick easy ! So not safe at all ! also it’s should sit on her chest but sits near her neck ! I wouldn’t recommend this as it’s not secure enough.

I rec’d this pet harness for my cats for free for my honest review. This harness is just average. There were a few things I liked. The leash was very long, so it would have given my cats a chance to roam “freely” and not have me right on top of them while they explored.

The harness was very intuitive and easy to get on the cats as well as adjust. But I rec’d a size Medium which said it would fit the size of my cats in chest and weight. It did not. My male cat is slim, tall and muscular and I could not even get the harness that went around his arms to reach on either side, even at the biggest setting.

And my female is a British tabby, short, round; she is much smaller overall. Even on her, I got one side to latch, but the other side was way too tight. I feel like the sizing on this brand is all off – I even questioned myself and weighed my cats to see if they had bulked up and I didn’t notice, but no.

If I had been sent the correct size, my kitties might have ventured outside, but no-go. I might recommend, but cannot fully because I didn’t get to 100% test it out.

I’m loving this harness! It’s larger and thicker than what I have used in the past, so at first I was afraid it wouldn’t be comfortable, but it’s actually wonderful! It is easily adjustable to fit your dog, so you get a nice fit around the body and at the chest! It’s easy to use and the snaps are not difficult to unsnap! My dog is almost a year old, and she’s a bigger dog. I have been looking for something like this to use as I walk her because she tends to try and pull away when she sees another puppy she wants to play with.

This harness is perfect for keeping her put, and now I don’t have to worry about putting strain on her neck when she pulls. The material is pretty thick, which is great as I was looking for something that was heavy duty for her.

I was able to slip it on her fairly easy which is important with such a heavy dog. I remove hers after her walks to try and let her get used to it little by little, and I have no trouble taking it off and on.

I really like the harnesses due to their ease of use, reflective coloring, and the soft and moisture wicking material. The buckles for both straps instead of just one were a life saver getting my picky pups into the harnesses without struggling.

It’s been easiest to unbuckle the body strap and slip the other one over their heads. We took them (I have 3, all under 20lbs) to the vet in the harnesses today and even though they were a bit loose the harnesses were incredibly helpful keeping the dogs still for their appointment – and the little handle on top made it super easy to get the pups up into the car and on the examination table.

They’re small but put up a big fight every time. The only part I would change about this is the placement of the clips – I haven’t had an issue with this yet but it may rub on their “armpits” with longer exposures.

I’d also like to mention that their outreach team is amazing – I mentioned the harnesses were too big and they reached out to get a different size sent, and said to donate the larger ones to an animal shelter.

I’ve used this harness for a couple of months now on my medium-size (30lbs) beagle-terrier mix pooch. When I began fostering her in November 2020, she came with another harness that was designed for much larger dogs.

It was heavy/bulky and a bit too large for her, even at its tightest setting, which caused it to slip from side to side. Once I officially adopted her in January 2021, I decided to check out other harness options.

This fits well (once properly adjusted at first use), and is really light, but durable. The “light” aspect is important due to the approaching Summer months where it’s unbearably hot and humid in our region.

The mesh material will keep it “breathable” for those many sticky months. The “durable” aspect is important as this kiddo instinctively and suddenly lunges at the sight of a squirrel, rabbit, etc. She is also “dog reactive”, resulting in lunging and pulling when other dogs get too close.

Her strength is extraordinary, and I’m happy to report that this harness manages to keep her restrained in such situations, even as I am holding on with both hands and leveraging my legs to stablize myself.

(I’m 5’10” and relatively fit. and she still tests my stability with her surprise “bolts”!) Glad to have found this harness!.

I am very pleased with the adjustment capability of this harness to get a good fit on my dog. He’s much happier in it than in a no pull nose harness. We’ve walked several times but not yet experienced another excited dog to truly test out how well it controls his pulling (which would definitely get it 5 stars).

I’m also happy with how comfortable he seems to be in it for long periods. Kept him in the harness all weekend for fast leash hookup in the car and at the house we were visiting. 3 days, no tugging or pulling trying to get out of it.
