Best Nintendo Switch Baseball Game (2024 Updated)

In some ways, video game culture looks totally different today than it did when Wii Sports became a cultural phenomenon in the mid-2000s. I figured that, with a huge gap between entries, Nintendo would need to rethink the series to serve a general public that’s far more literate in video games.

It’s stranger now if someone hasn’t played Fortnite or Among Us or even Dungeons & Dragons. I assumed a game like this would need more meat, more oomph, more, well, to be frank, marketing. I was wrong.

For all the change in the world of games, hucking an imaginary ball at imaginary bowling pins is and always will be awesome. Wii Sports didn’t need more minigames or the infinite to-do list of a “living game” or the depth of an RPG.

All it needed was a little more polish, some liberal trimming of the weak bits, and a swift boot into the world. Nintendo Switch Sports feels so delightful in 2023 because the joy of Wii Sports never really went away — nor did the dream of motion controls and games that invited in even the most cynical non-gamers.

You can still find dusty Wiis and Microsoft Kinects in retirement homes, hospitals, and even some school A/V closets across the country. Throughout the pandemic, my father dug out a Kinect for neighborhood backyard get-togethers.

When I took him to a retro game shop this winter, the clerk crushed his spirit, informing him that not even original Xbox One games would connect with Kinect. Nor were his Kinect classics backward compatible with the latest Xbox hardware.

I’m ecstatic that I can push this game into his life, because reader, I promise that it’s better than literally every Kinect game … and nearly every Wii game, too. Nintendo Switch Sports targets this audience, from the retired to the new parents, nostalgic for a type of gaming experience that hasn’t quite been recreated since.

These are the final generations widely unfamiliar with modern video game controllers. And for Nintendo, that audience may be more than enough. That said, I do hope younger folks give this game a shot.

I think they might once the game’s online mode is available, a place where people under the age of 35 are far more likely to play games. Until I can try those features, though, I’m happy to think of this as Nintendo’s love letter to the old and the old at heart.

The company took over a decade to make the game, but maybe they were waiting for folks like me to age into it.

An impulse buy for both nostalgia and to get my little preteen gamer moving. Love the new designs, very colorful and alive. The characters give me Splatoon x Animal Crossing vibes with just a dash of anime inspo.

(And the option to still select Miis is a nice throwback!) The motions are a good combination of realistic simulation and simplified movements to accommodate a larger player base. Chambara (swordplay) and volleyball are my favorite, I’m very impressed by those ones.

Even with the just two Joy-Cons (1 pair), you can still enjoy ~90% of the game with another person. As for the price to content ratio. it’s not the best but not the worst. For $50, there’s essentially only 6 sports, some of which do have options that provide varied gameplay.

And the idea of competing against others globally to accumulate points for prizes/accessories is great, but even that is limited to 2 prizes a week (with CPU competitors, which is whatever) without the $100 Nintendo Online subscription.

Compare that to Zelda BotW is about the same price and has a *ton* of content (albeit one save file and no motion control wizardry). But it’s still FUN! When will the novelty wear off? I don’t know. I feel like there’s still a lot I can get out of the game.

But even then, it’s easy to pick up, great to pull others into, and a fun light workout.

This game was great fun! It does have it troubles here and there but it’s honestly a great game. The only problem I have with this game is the lack of content. Sure there is a pro league and some Unlockable customization options, but it’s all locked behind Online play.

The trial mode with it though, only lets you unlock two items per week, and your not playing against real people. Luckily, I have online and feel bad for the people who don’t cause they are missing out on a huge chunk of the experience.

I only know about this trial mode because my brother tried playing online even though he doesn’t have the online membership, so it granted him trial mode which sucked by the way. At the end of the day though, Just like playing and Wii sports game in the series, Competing against friends and family is where a Wii sports game is really gonna shine.

It’s not the best game in the series but it’s a step up from Wii sports Club, that’s for sure! This game is still a fun time and I Highly recommend this for people who want to compete with their friends and family.

But personally, I’d use the Miis as my avatar. I’d also like to add that Tennis, Badminton, and Volleyball do not feel the same, so don’t listen to those people who haven’t even played the game yet. But anyway, Thanks for reading this review.

Fun game. I only wish I’d bought the digital version to save me from having to get up and physically change the cartridge.

I wanted games that were similar to the Wii and this is exactly that! It’s great for groups to play and fun for kids.

Excellent value with 6 games included. Great for getting all the family involved. Great family fun.

Nintendo on their website listed for each sport how many people could play. The reality is it’s less than mentioned. They said bowling was 1-16 players – except it’s 1-4 offline, or 1-2 online (against 14 other players around the world).

They said football had 1v1 or 4v4 modes – it’s 1-2 players on/offline. Tennis is 1-4 offline, but only 1-2 online. Badminton is 1-2 offline but only 1 player online (Badminton has doubles irl, why is doubles not a mode in this game?) Volleyball is 1-4 offline, only 1-2 online.

Chanbara 1-2 off, 1 player only online. Some of these modes could easily have had more players allowed. Football could have up to 4 players as the Switch can connect 8 joy-cons (you need 2 each) Badminton could have a doubles mode.

Chanbara you could take turns as a team, winner stays on etc. Bowling could easily have up to 16 players offline with people passing a joy-con around (although it would take a long time for the game to finish) But no, everything feels more limited than it should.

There’s also golf to be added in as a free update later on, so the game feels unfinished. There’s also no reason they couldn’t have had boxing and baseball from the old Wii Sports. The gameplay itself is OK, but flitters between sometimes feeling like it’s rewarding your accurate, realistic movements and sometimes unexpectedly sending your shot off somewhere else even though you didn’t do much different from your previous movement.

There are also nuanced/hidden moves that it doesn’t show you in tutorials which gives the play some depth, but is also unbalanced if there’s match ups between someone that knows all the secrets and some one who doesn’t.

There’s also the lacking rewards for playing online – you just unlock more clothes and accessories for your avatar. My kids like this and it will keep some people going, but why not also have some leaderboards or weekly competitions, or badges that show things you’ve achieved such as 5 strikes in a row, or win/loss ratio or something else? So for my family of 5, at best 4 of us can play at once, but then once we go online, it’s down to 2 of us, and then within 2 out of 5 of the games it’s one person by themselves.

consider that before buying, if you had a different expectations of multiplayer as I did.

got this day one for my family to play. (4 kids 11,9,7,4) the graphics are not 15 years better. The cartoon figures are fun looking but the whole visual experience is not inline with graphical improvements since 2005 the 6 games seem like hours and hours of fun but badminton and volleyball is very limited in moves.

The sword play is glitchy as the movements arent exactly precise. The football doesnt seem to require the leg strap (atm) but its reasonable fun. The tennis is much the same as original and imo the bowling is worse as the controller doesnt react the same as the original.

We all like the bowling anyway and the split screen is an improvement but,. ,. overall it is not a better game than WII Sports. I admit that expectation is high because of the 15 years gap but its just a poor revamp.

Nintendo Switch Sports is a blast form the the past when it was call Wii Sports. Basically the same game with a couple of new sports added. But rose tinted glasses time. it’s a bare bones game and all the sports except Bowling are basic and ultra short, blink and they are over before you know it.

Still fun though, but Warning the items to create a sports star are locked behind online mode only and with out a subscription you will not have much to customise. Online mode seems pointless unless your playing with a friend.

For those put off by the cartoonish nature of another tennis game on the platform, AO Tennis 2 steps in to fill the void of being a good sim. While not quite as polished as some games from prior generations, tennis fans are truly given an enjoyable experience.

Well worth a volley for sports fans and true fans of this specific sport.

Its better than the other big tennis game on switch, but thats not a high bar to clear. Ropey unresponsive gameplay and a bizarre difficulty curve that has 8 grades of difficulty but gets fairly tricky from level 2 onwards.

The timing of shots is nowhere near as intuitive as Top Spin 4 from nearly a decade ago.

The game concept is very good, however the controls and graphics leave much to be desired. The graphics are of relatively low quality and the controls are very difficult to learn.

The Positives: + Contains all of the content from both Overcooked! and Overcooked! 2, including all of the DLCs + Runs solidly while looking very nice + Provides both local and online multiplayer + Catchy soundtrack + Wide variety of chefs to play as + Provides a wide variety of accessibility options + By and large controls very well.

The Drawbacks: -. though I do find it hard to grab what I need from the counters on occasion, as it can be a bit fussy – It did crash on me once – Those who have bought Overcooked! and/or Overcooked! 2 before may feel a bit put out by this release – May cause arguments with others in the heat of kitchen battle, even if you’re playing single player.

Overview: If you’ve ever been interested in playing the Overcooked! games, this is THE way to do it. You get all of the content from both the first two Overcooked! games, while getting a spiffy graphical upgrade and smoother performance! I found the soundtrack catchy, and the accessibility options deserve a special mention, as well.

Those who have bought any Overcooked! games before may very well feel a bit hard done, though, as they don’t get the graphic/performance updates nor the new free DLC this game got. Also, going for the top ratings on the levels can be pretty tense, so someone may end up unleashing their inner Gordon Ramsay in the heat of battle! All in all, this is the king of the co-operative multiplayer genre and highly recommended!.

I played both Overcooked games during the last generation and had an absolute blast. The gameplay is best experienced with your friends and family while yelling at each other to “get out of the way. ” This series is one of the best party/couch co-op games available anywhere.

Unfortunately, there’s a bug that makes the couch co-op completely unplayable on the Xbox Series X/S – which is the whole point of these games. You cannot use multiple controllers with multiple XBox profiles – the game just simply won’t let you add multiple players with correct controller assignments.

If you somehow get lucky enough to get your entire party in (we’ve experienced problems with both 2 and 3 players), the game will crash back to the main menu anytime an achievement pops. Judging by the posts on Reddit, Twitter and a few other gaming sites – I’m not the only one with these issues.

Judging by the support articles I’ve seen, they’ve known about this issue since launch and have done nothing to fix it. I love this series, but I can’t recommend anyone buy this compilation (for Series X) until the developers fix these issues.

If you’re planning on just playing yourself. everything seems to function as intended. But all of the joy of couch co-op is completely missing.

If you own the previous 2 games and the DLCs, it’s really not worth buying this game for just the extra content (Ever Peckish Rising), which is only 7 stages. I don’t really care for updated graphics, because let’s be real, the game is too chaotic for anyone to notice ooooh the tomatoes look prettier that before.

It doesn’t really add to the gameplay experience. The loading times are still horrendous compared to Steam/Xbox. There are some levels that are very glitchy. (Ex: In Ever Peckish Rising 2-2, after falling off the stage, the cooking progress bar would sometimes disappear and you can’t pick up stuff.

This continued to happen even after restarting the level. and restarting the Switch). AYCE might be worth getting if you don’t already own the previous 2 games. If you have a Steam account, buy and play it there instead.

Or have your phone or a book handy for the long load times.

When the worst thing I can say about a game is that “it’s over too soon,” you know It’s something special. Step into the feathers of a menacing, mean-spirited goose (or geese in the two-player split-screen mode) and infuriate the citizens of an otherwise peaceful town by flapping your wings, honking and grabbing the belongings of the townsfolk with your beak and dragging them away.

Each area of the town serves as a sort of puzzle where you have to complete a checklist of objectives to move on. These can be anything from “make the farmer hammer his thumb” to “make the boy trip and fall into the puddle.

” Simply put, if the concept of a goose bullying an entire town makes you smile, odds are you’ll like this. And it’s even better with friends or family around to laugh at the madness. The only major shortcoming Untitled Goose Game has is its length.

I managed to beat the main game in about 3-4 hours. Fortunately, there are plenty of extra objectives to complete once the main story is done. Aside from that, my gripes are minimal. The controls are relatively simple and straightforward—easy enough for even a more casual player in my household to pick it up within a few minutes of play.

Overall, it’s an enjoyable experience that managed to live up to the hype and exceed my expectations. I do hope a future sequel will be longer, though. The physical edition includes the game on a cartridge, a “No Goose” sticker, a booklet done in the style of a promotional brochure, as well as a town map poster.

I’m here 9 months after purchase to leave this review because my kids are yet again playing the goose game right now. Despite our formidable library of switch games, my 10 and 6 year old children always circle back to this.

It’s relaxing, challenging and hilarious. An absolute winner in our house.

I really love this game. I am not a big gamer and bought a switch for my kids one Christmas. Needless to say I got this game for myself out of a recommendation from a friend. It is a lot of fun and my kids like to play it too.

Not violent or anything, just mischief which is what makes it entertaining and special.

If you’re like me, you want something like Wii Sports, but for the Nintendo Switch. This. Ain’t. It. Not even close. By comparison, this is grotesquely disappointing. Nintendo Switch Sports has just been announced.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this pretender to the throne.

It’s an okay game. It’s one of those shovelware type titles where you don’t get it if you actually have expectations for the game. The sporting events in the game are all kind of clunky, and doesn’t really give a great experience for any of them.

While not terrible or anything, just nothing special.

Really fun games for kids and adults alike! I love that Sports Party provides choices for game level options from easy to hard. This option allows everyone to play and enjoy themselves with vibrant games and competitions in Tennis, Golf, Skateboard, Basketball, Jet Skiing or my favorite Frisbee.

Ok if your into games like the track and field stuff that has been a thing going all the way back toe the C64, of the epic Sega Track and field on PlayStation and Sega Saturn. You will enjoy and get a kick out of this game.

The best part of this game from the lost olympic games is the wacky costumes you can earn and unlock. Want to see a guy in a sonic costume running the 100 meter dash. This is the game for you. Other then that its an average game.

But it has its moments.

As long as you keep your expectations in check, this title can be very fun – particularly in short bursts. There is a good selection of events from basketball to baseball to track and field. Of course, you should not expect any of these events to be full-fledged and deeply developed games (this is no NBA 2K or The Show), but it offers a solid presentation and plays well.

I think this is a fun game. The way they came up with how to do each event is good to me. What I really wish is that we can get the old olympic games, that’s not arcade style, simulation style. And compete completely in a full olympics.

But I do think if you are interested in olympic play it is fun, and the gameplay is good to me. Thank you for making an olympic game.

I like the transition of the Just Dance games to the switch. This introduced a big game changer for me, the subscription feature. Although it’s not ideal to lay extra the 2 dollars is worth the unlocked feature of all the previous game songs.

My older games have been lost, scratched and borrowed to not be returned so this feature saves me lots time, money, and effort that came with keeping the older versions. Plus they upload the remastered versions of the older songs.

I have all the Just Dance’s that WII has put out. They are so much fun to play. I love dancing and they music is top hits from today and the past. Their are many times of dance like country, hiphop, reggae, pop and more.

I love to play with my daughter and sister we take turns and its a great way to burn some calories too. My dad who doesn’t play the game with us still has fun watching all of us play. Not as much fun as the Wii or xbox but still good.

I use this with the Nintendo Switch. I’m single, an adult, live alone with no kids and I love this game as exercise! It’s not just for little kids or for playing with other people, you can play alone and have lots of fun doing it! It gives you a workout that is so fun you dont even notice how long you’ve been exercising.

Unlike with the treadmill, where every second is torture for me lol, this is fun, easy exercise and you burn so many calories. Everyday I just put this on, choose songs I like, and before I even notice I’ve been exercising for an hour and have burned hundreds of calories! My watch tracks my exercise/calories and it considers every minute I’m dancing as an exercise minute.

The extra add on, Just Dance Unlimited, is a decent price for a year and it’s totally worth it because it gives you a whole catalogue of songs instead of just the 40 in your game. It costs companies a lot of money to have the rights to use songs in their games which is why you have to pay for the service of unlimited songs.

The add on price (around $25 for Switch users I think?) is way better cheaper than a gym membership.

Anybody who remembers bowling or playing tennis on the Wii will love this. The classic games we all loved updated and tweaked slightly but without losing its old charm and family competitiveness. My only complaint is that their is just the 6 sports.

You would have thought the way technology etc has moved on their would have been a lot more sports to choose from. Perhaps that will come with online patches or upgrades. I hope so.

Game is good. Kids love it. Bought online but there was a delay so I went to the store. They advised to buy another copy and return the download when it arrived. So I did. Now they won’t accept the return of the unused download.

I have 2 copies now and they got paid twice. Double check what the I store experts tell you but cost you not to.

Fun games for group party. It takes collaboration and team work. Well lots of restaurant voices will come out. The game almost portray what happened behind the restaurant. So enjoy.

Love this game!!!!! However it is the European version, doesn’t change anything just letting you know. The only difference is the game name label on the side of the game case is centered on European vs American being at the top.

So if youre OCD this may bother you. I dont have mine displayed so Im okay with it.

Great family friendly game thats good for kids and adults alike. Mainly good for playing in pairs or groups. Even serious gamers can enjoy this for a bit of a change.

A very fun, cartoony, and usually very easy to control baseball game. It was the early 90s, so the best teams are the Braves, Phillies, and Blue Jays, in my opinion, but your favorite teams are all here.

As long as you’re not a fan of the Rays or Diamondbacks, who did not exist when this game was developed or programmed. I think Baseball Simulator 1. 000 is a little more fun and easy to play, but this is probably the second best baseball game for the SNES.

I’m not a big fan of baseball the sport itself, but I enjoy this game. Probably the best baseball game on all consoles up to and including the SNES. Solid, fun, pick-up-and-play game. 4 Stars. Star rating is based on game and gameplay.

I purchased my copy from DK Oldies. Cosmetically clean copy and starts right up.

I remember playing baseball games with friends on the SNES growing up such as Roger Clemens MVP Baseball. But Ken Griffey Jr Presents MLB was by far the most fun. Sure it didn’t feature real players because it didn’t have the MLB license that year, but it did feature real teams and real fun.

The music was great, the character animations and temperament were amazing too. I remember players breaking bats and yelling “AHHH COME ON!!”. Ahh, good times.

Good concept and plot. As a slime rancher you need to expand your farm and advance by selling the products the slime make, sounds dumb but really fun. Lots of different areas on the map to explore. Be careful not to get too many slimes in one area or the graphics start to lag.

After playing the game at someone’s home with my son, I found he enjoyed watching me play and I with him, so we ordered it only for the game to be switched from PS4 to Xbox one mid delivery. I even got an email about it so confused thinking there may have been a typo but I have an email from Walmart for Slime Rancher as a PS4 game and the the delivery company messaging me for an Xbox one game.

That sucks so we now have to return it. What a shame.

My son is really enjoying playing his Slime rancher game and is progressing through it without much effort.
