20 Best Night Time Eye Ointment (2023 Updated)

If I didn’t use this ointment nightly at bed time, I would not be able to open my eyes in the morning. I would be ripping my eyes open. I lost the use of the moisture producing glands for my eyes, this ointment is the best i have found and it stays lubricating my eyes all night.

I hold the tube in my closed had while watching a bit of evening TV and it becomes a liquid from the heat. Then I can actually do drops into my eyes. If I didn’t warm it up, then it is a thick gel and hard to get into my eyes myself.

I put in the drops when I am in bed because I do not want to blink it away trying to see through it. I the morning it washes away easily. Great stuff. It is saving my sight.

ok during the day for me. When i go to bed using genteal ointment or gel it causes post nasal drip discomfort. If i use the cheaper generic thicker petroleum-based eye ointments my post nasal drip is not affected.

these are good though for when my eye is even too dry during the day for eyedrops so i keep some on hand. minor corneal tears and abraisons that heal in a day or two without anitbiotic ointment (perscribed) seem to respond well with this equally to other brands and types.

I have had allergies all of my life. When I was a young teenager I took Bee 🐝 Pollen injections and the pollen injections was formulated from the trees, grass, sage brush and other plants inside my living environment, but the one thing that I wasn’t able to get relief from was my red, weepy, burning, itchy eyes, until now.

I would recommend this to anyone who suffers with serious allergy eyes. You will be surprised by how well and how quick you will be back to living life with clear, focused and allergy free eyes.

This ointment is wonderful. Eye doctor said I had to start using an ointment ( not gel or drops as they are not effective for all dry eye problems). My eyes dry so much at night, they cause my right eye to have monthly retinal tears.

The ointment he recommended was 97% petroleum jelly and just too uncomfortable for me. THANK goodness I stumbled on this nighttime ointment which is only half petroleum and half mineral oil and SO much more comfortable, otherwise I was looking at getting plugs in my eyes.

I have been using this for 4 years so wholeheartedly recommend. Also in disagreement with a one star review, you only use ONE drop per night as again, it’s a thick ointment. For me, I only need this for one eye, so the “ tiny” tube lasts me 8-10 weeks.

With two eyes at nite I’d suspect one tube would EASILY last a 4-5 weeks. I believe the bad review here is because the person had no idea what they were purchasing or how to properly use it. I say this because MOST people who buy night ointment actually prefer the more heavy products.

And filled with air? Of course there is some air, otherwise the ointment would ooze out as soon as you squeeze it. I keep my tube upside down so I don’t have to wait for the ointment to come out ( kind of like ketchup, it’s thick and takes time).

I really like this product for I had a major surgery n the Dr had to cut my facial nerve and that left me with no blink in my left eye and I have been Thur the mill trying to find something to sooth the eye and keep it moisturize and not get a dry eye.

This product feels really good to me it doesn’t burn the eye,or make a big mess of it when u put it in the eye. And Thur the day I use this and a prescription from my doctor of the Xiidra and it’s good stuff to but need your insurance to cover that it’s expensive.

Good luck to all that’s trying to cure the dry eye problem we don’t know know what’s it like not to blink or to have dry eye till we have it. We are Bless with so much of small things n don’t know it till it happens to ud.

I have one eyelid that doesn’t close properly. Before I found this P. M. lubricant, I used Celluvisc. Celluvisc is great and I use it for my other eye, but sometimes you need something with more staying power.

So I use P. M. for my worst eye. Less is better with this product or you just end up with a mess on your face in the morning. Tube lasts a long time if you use it sparingly.

I can’t say enough good things about Refresh Lacri lube. This very reasonably priced dry eye treatment product has truly changed my life. I used to wake up with very badly irritated eyes every single morning, but since I discovered the Refresh? No more! I would recommend it to anyone who suffers from dry eyes, including those who suffer because it’s a side effect of a medications they are required to take.

I have issues with having dry eyes especially after few procedures done in my left eye starting with Lasik in 2001 followed by correction procedures. Lookin back, I should not have had the follow-up procedures done.

That eye gets very uncomfortable at times, and hurts. My ophthalmologist thinks that my eyes remain slightly open at night while I am sleeping. So he recommended Refresh Lacri-Lube Ointment to use at night.

This product moisturizes and soothes my eyes instantly. I also like that one application lasts a long time so I don’t have to keep reapplying it. This is well priced, available in a multi-pack, and is easy to find in store or online.

I selected this in the two pack and like the convenience of having an extra bottle for my purse. Overall, I am glad I tried this and this product does work well for me.

I’ve had severe dry eyes for years! I’ve been on multiple prescription and non-prescription eye drops. Recently ones I’ve been using having been just causing more irritation and burning. Nothing was soothing! Nothing would stop them from having tears run down may face pretty consistently.

In short, it’s The One – we are matched perfectly. The relief as soon as it touches my dry eyes is great. I get stinging from thin daytime drops, so I cannot use them. This product is so hydrating at night that my eyes remain hydrated in the day.

The shop where I used to buy this stopped selling it ages back and I was overjoyed to find it here on eBay. Please note! This product is designed for use while you sleep only. It causes severe vision blurring, so you put it on as you go to bed for a few hours sleep.

If you get up / wake soon after going to bed you will find your vision is still blurry , so I wouldn’t recommend this for people demand feeding a baby.

I was suffering for years of the dry eye syndrome, no eyedrops, even the most expensive one, were helping, for many years I was forced to use waterproof make up, but it was lasting for a few hours only anyway.

I was having enough constantly wet eyelids, packs of tissues in my bag and forget smokey eye for the evening out, I had watery eye literally non stop. Then I went for a free spec-savers eye check and I was advised that my eyes are super dry and instructed to use the hycosan night ointment.

Is very think and slightly awkward to apply, but manageable. I have noticed the difference in about a week, my eyes were slightly less itchy and I was also using a tiny bit in the morning, just to provide longer-lasting moisture.

Now, after 3 months of use (the little tube lasts for about that long), my eyes are nearly perfect! I am still using the ointment at night, but less quantity than at the beginning and still tiny amount in the morning.

Not for me! After applying to my eyes I have noticed I need to use eye drops after few hours of using them anyway. Coming out and doesn’t do the job. Great prices with this seller but I’m not buying anymore.

I developed dry eye after PRK surgery. It progressively got worse year over year. This combination has approved my dry eye 100%. I use one drop of the gel at night and two drops of the ultra liquid in the AM.

Now this is a product I really can’t do without. If I didn’t have this product my eyes would have such problems. More than I do now with them. My doctor has told me hes never seen dry eyes as bad as mine and I can believe that because if I don’t use this product I cannot even open my eyes during the night.

You can imagine that the distress that has on my eyes. I have actually injured my eyes just trying to open them up during the night if I don’t use this. So this product does do what it’s supposed to do for me and it makes my eyes not get too dried up during the night.

It’s a God send for me.

I bought the expired Systane Night Time ointment. It barely worked if it worked at all. My eyes were agitated for two days. I have used Systane for several years due to eye surgery. I was unaware of the issue with expired ointment not working.

Do not buy Systane Night Time expired if you have dry eyes. The ingredients deteriorate and will agitate your eye. There will be no relief. I had to go to Walgreens to buy a new tube within 48 hours.

As someone who wears contacts, and takes meds that give me chronic dry eye, especially in the evening, this is the best overnight eye gel I have found to protect my eyes from getting too dry and keep them healthy.

It was recommended to me by my eye doctor. I use this nightly and highly recommend it. It is a gel, so it does give you blurry vision, but that doesn’t matter since it is used at night before bedtime.

After getting Lasik surgery my eyes were extremely dry. To the point that I will wake up in the middle of the night because my eyes felt so uncomfortable. While I was putting eye drops frequently, these weren’t enough.

I bought this and started using it at night, and it made a HUGE difference. After two nights of using it, I was able to get a full 8 hrs of sleep and my eyes didn’t get as dry during the day. I will still apply drops before my makeup but I didn’t have to constantly apply eye drops throughout the day.

The product feels quite weird in the eye, it is like you are putting a bit of Vaseline, as soon as you put it on and blink, your sight will go blurry – this goes away after a few blinks. Preferably you should use this product at night before going to bed to get the best results.

The product is quite messy and it may make your entire eye area feel a bit oily. I think that this is a great product for very dry eyes, this is like your skin moisture treatment that you use at night but for your eyes.

My only issue is that the tube is small, and I think it is a bit high up there in price for just and over the counter eye treatment. Also, the line has another product that’s in a gel form which is more comfortable to apply to the eye.

I currently use the gel treatment almost everyday and during the weekends or days that I had a long day at work I will use this. They are both good products, it just depends on your preference of consistency and eye sensitivity.

As someone with severe RCS (recurring corneal erosion syndrome) this was the one thing my eye dr recommended for me to use at night to keep my eye completely lubricated. This is a little life saver in a bottle.

I have been using this product religiously for over a year and a half now and its definitely doing a good job. I never go to bed without it in my eye! Also works really well if you suffer from dry eyes in general.

I usually buy these in bulk due to how small it is and how often I need to use it but its super affordable, less than $8 at Walmart!.

My left eye does not make tears due to nerve damage from brain surgery. I rely on gel drops during the day and nighttime lubricants to keep my cornea protected and lubricated. Systane is great. It doesn’t “melt” as much as those ointments with more mineral oil and doesn’t irritate.

It may cost a bit more, but my eyes are worth it.

If you’re having issues with blurred vision during the day due to dry eyes, this ointment may be highly beneficial for you. A lot of my issues resolved after beginning to use this eye ointment every night before bedtime.

I also didn’t need to apply more than a fingertip’s width to each eye for it to last throughout the night. It is a slightly more viscous ointment due to the higher petrolatum concentration — and I much prefer that to thinner ointments which have a larger proportion of mineral oil.

The petrolatum is what really keeps my eyes moisturized, non-irritated, and this ointment thankfully does not travel around the eye area outside of my eyes often which means it won’t make a mess on my pillow cases/eye mask.

My only complaint would be the metal tube, but it’s one that I’m not too bothered by since the product itself works well.

I’ve just recently started using these eye drops. Although I will say they certainly don’t burn like most. I have Dry Eye Syndrome along with Bell’s palsy that has effected my eyes severely therefore it doesn’t take much to cause pain.

This product has saved my life. I suffer from MGD and Dry Eye Disease. Before I used this, I would have recurring corneal abrasions weekly. I read some reviews on this gel and thought I’d give it a try.

A week later, I immediately ordered 3 more tubes. I was able to sleep at night without putting drops in my eyes 6 plus times a night. With this, I only reapply once per night. It really is a lifesaver.

The tube has a alot in it, and is easy to apply.

I suffer from severe dry eye issues and I was born with an eye deformity that my eyes don’t completely closed when I’m sleeping and it’s very painful when they dry out or if anything gets in my eyes when I am asleep.

Using the genteel nighttime gel makes the mornings much easier on me. It is not sick at all like petroleum jelly. It is very sheer and melts right into your eyes. I’ve tried other products where I couldn’t see anyting and I’m not comfortable with that.

My dry eye condition had gotten so bad I thought it was an infection. The flesh in the lower eyelid had gotten so puffy it almost covered half the eyeball area. I had it confirmed that it was dry eye so when deciding to go with GenTeal I saw the other comments by users and gave it a try.

This stuff is absolutely awesome. The condition has completely cleared up and when used every night there are no dry eye symptoms that a drop of GenTeal eyedrops will not easily handle. I’m ordering 2 more tubes just to be sure I never run out.

The ointment is awesome, isn’t too thick and spreads easily in the eye. My problem is the packaging. The cap is hard to remove and I really don’t like the metal container. Whose bright idea was it for this med to have a metal tip when applying so close to the eye?? Also, I think the nozzle could be thinner, it’s hard to get a thin strip out.

Usually just a big blob will come out so I’ve started applying it with a clean finger.

For someone with a dry eye problem this is the best. Use at bedtime just before you’re ready to shut your eyes for the night. After a week or two of u;sing you will notice the difference. I have used about every over the counter dry eye products available including those recommended by my doctor and none of them work as well as this overnight gel.

Drops help during the day (a little) but wear off very soon.

I have severe dry eye and like the thicker consistency of this product, but it needs to be in an aluminum tube as it’s so hard to squeeze it out of the plastic one and you have little control over how much comes out.

It’s also pricey, even in the economy size, if you use a tube a week like I do. I only went back to it because the same product (different brand) has been recalled and I could buy that one in bulk for a few bucks a tube.

So, hopefully my regular product will be back soon or they’ll lower the price on this one and fix the packaging.

I buy this for my min. Poodle who has dry eyes. I also had some dry eye problems after cataract surgery and the ophthalmologist suggested it. I cant read a book after using, but Maddie doesnt read at bedtime.

So vision is a bit smeary, which youd expect from a petrolatum jelly. For humans and dogs. Far cheaper than veterinarian rx. Whats good enough for me.

At first I didn’t use it that much because it made your sight blurry and it was so thick. Then my eyes got more itchy , dry, hurt, etc so I decided to use it nightly and Wow what a difference. I couldn’t believe how much better my eyes felt after just a few days.

So now I don’t miss a night.

I love this product. The packaging was redesigned in the last 2 years. It was red and blue. Even though it says NIGHT GEL, I use it in the day and in the evening. Since using this Gel, I dont use it every day (I forget) but that shows how this product works.

These drops provide temporary relief and cause slight stinging upon application. They make my eyes feel lubricated for maybe 10 mins and then they feel even more dry after. I would not recommend this formula, personally.

Especially if you have sjogrens. This does little to nothing and is a waste of money.

I only bought this because my eyes were so dry I wanted to scratch them out of my head. I would not use it otherwise. Must be used before bed because one cannot see clearly enough to do anything requiring functional eyesight after applying this.

One gets very little for ones money. Not worth the price.

Make sure you use it as you are going to sleep and not before you’re completely ready for bed because it makes your vision incredibly blurry. Since using this, along with eyedrops daily, I have not had infections or blurred vision and my eyes do not feel dry and tired.

Does a really good job of keeping your eyes moist! This is the only brand of eye drops I’ve used in recent years. I wear contact lenses daily, and my eyes are often dry. I was looking for some affordable eye drops that could help me keep my contacts in longer and more comfortably.
