20 Best Net For Kayak Fishing (2023 Updated)

I have owned a number of Frabill nets and other products over the years, and have always found them to be of excellent overall quality. Once in a while, something really unique pops up on a type of product that most everyone takes for granted, and never thought about the need to build a better mousetrap! Such is the case with this net, which I ordered site to store, after purchasing it’s smaller brother in the Marine/Kayak section of my local store’s sporting goods dept.

The design allows them to fold up and collapse the handle in order to store in virtually any rod box and most center storage boat compartments. Let’s face it, it is nice to have a really large and rugged net at times, but they are often underfoot, get bent up, and occasionally blow out of the boat if left sitting on the back deck.

Having both sizes of nets with me all the time allows us to have panfish, white bass, walleye’s, and black bass species all covered depending upon time of year and what we are targeting. This particular net size can handle thrashing spotted bass and smallmouths up to five pounds with ease.

The nylon folding yoke is much stronger than you may think, so I would not hesitate to use in attempting to land any species up to twice that size. Big catfish in the teens and up are NOT likely to be a good match for this net, and that is one very popular species where a solid aluminum frame net makes the most sense and gets the job done right.

It is BIG. This Frabill net is the least expensive of quality nets in this category. Bought for musky encounters in Canada and stripers in Arkansas. Designed to lkeep fish in water while unhooking preventing damage to the fish.

I can’t help but make my way to the fishing department every time I shop at Walmart. I had no intentions on buying this net; but the moment I saw it, the craftsmanship and color of it caught my attention.

I picked it up, was playing with it, and it didn’t take me long to make a decision on buying it. I had no idea the net folded, until I picked up what I thought was a similar net that was already folded.

Turns out it was the same exact net. When it’s folded, it’s 21″ long by 5″ wide. Opened up an extended, it’s exactly 4′ long by 16. 5″ wide with the inside of the net being exactly 15″ wide. The handle is super sturdy and has no slack in it.

It feels like a one piece handle. The locking mechanism on the pole is similar to the locking mechanism on a tripod. Easy to flip it up or down to extend the handle. I’ve already used it to net a couple of catfish at Legg Lake in Whittier Narrows, CA.

I’m not sure why other reviewers are complaining about the net coming off or getting caught up in their hooks. Isn’t the hook in the fishes mouth? When netting the fish, I kept tension on my line to avoid any issues with the net getting tangled.

YakAttack knocked it out the park with their design of a landing net. Great ergonomics, heavy duty construction! Padded foam material on the extension which makes it comfortable and gives you that extra leverage to land the big fish.

Rubber netting keep treble hooks from getting snagged, which gives you more time to fish. Awesome net, every angler needs one.

Firstly, being a yakattack product you would expect it to fit into a yakattack rotogrip, it doesn’t, not even close. Secondly, it seems like it’s susposta lock in place when extended, it doesn’t. There’s a latch mechanism there, but it misses the latch point by several millimeters.

I like the idea of this net, but the actual product is pretty disappointing. Moosejaw, however is awesome, will shop here again.

I gave this 5 stars however I have not landed a fish with it yet. The telelescoping mechanism works great at this point. Handle seems to be good quality but the plastic grip points are on the large size in diameter.

Needs to be a bit smaller, comfortable. I have never used the Ego brand. I have a telescoping other brand I used for years, maybe ranger,black octagon. Has been good. Ist try with rubber coating net on Ego.

It is nice but hope quality matches the price as it is too much for a net. I believe this will be great off piers, bank, jetty or anywhere an extension is needed. I believe & hope it was a good choice.

Well, I tried. I really did. I bought this net on 06/07 and received it about a week later. I bought this to use on my boat for Kokanee. Right out of the gate I had issues. The first time out I almost lost the head of the net.

No matter how much I tightened the head of the net to the extendable pole, the thing wanted to come loose. It just does not want to stay on. The thread is plastic of course, so any tighter and I’m sure it would break.

Also, the slider is junk. Sometimes it wants to slide out, sometimes it doesn’t. At one point I just left the slider in and did the ol’ ‘reach as far as you can and hope you don’t fall out of the boat’ method.

I try to be fair in my reviews, so before I posted this I contacted customer service to give them a chance to fix the issues (assume positive intent). Who knows, maybe I got a lemon. They told me they would send me a new male end to the pole which could improve how it tightens to the net head.

Yeah, that never happened. It’s been a month and half and still haven’t received anything. Also, I emailed them numerous times about the pole not extending properly. They just ignore my emails. So for me, EGO products are a HARD pass.

Quality is not there, customer service is abysmal. For the money you can get a much nicer quality net than this. Sucks because I really wanted to like this net, but the company clearly has no interest in its customer base nor does it stand behind its products.

I know the title doesn’t make much sense, but it is very true. I love how compact and convenient the net is, especially when I have my 4 little kids in the boat. Being able to extend is a true savior.

The net material, however, fall victim to the hooks easily. I was told to go with PVC mesh and I listened. I spent the prime time of the walleye bite untangling the hooks. They really get into the net and very hard to get back out at very inconvenient times.

It is a true shame that I spent over $100 for this net and I ended up leaving it the dock. My kids got some great GoPro action of me trying to take the hooks out. There has to be something better.

I have one already and really like it over anything I have had. This is the second one I have ordered and only thing I can say bad is it is still backordered from June 1st and is suppose to ship on June 30, Must mean lots of other people like them too.

I had an older version and the padding on the handle starting coming off so I taped it. I lost it going across the lake and it sank, so much for floating. I like the coloring and love how the handle slides.

I also like the clear rubber net, it seems to spook the fish less and easier to get lures out. I do like having the choice of changing net sizes easily although the medium is a little lighter than the large and works for 90 percent of the fish I catch (walleye, northern, bass and small muskies (35 inch or less).

Bought net 4 weeks ago. Haven’t had a chance to test it out yet because had to put boat in the shop as well as get trailer worked on. Net feels strong and should be plenty large enough. Lost what I believed to be a legal cobia with my old net because it wasn’t large or strong enough.

Wasn’t sure if it was legal so I didn’t want to gaff it. Paid the price. Been buying cheap nets for years so I figured I would spend the money on a good net that would last. Salt water eats everything you know.

This net is very strong and light weight for the size.

Purchased this off web site after using the Bubba Cordless Knife, along with the the 8. 5″ pliers and 6″ Ultra Flex. All the items are top quality. Used the Net for the first time today, worked great.

The Net Material is great, never has an issue pulling crank baits out of the web. Deep enough to to handle larger fish. The Grip is Fantastic! Weights a bit more then other brands I have used in the past, but I can tell already it’s going to last longer.

Improvements. Wishing the handle was just a bit longer for the Med size net! Otherwise I would have given this a 5 rating. Bad timing on my part, purchased four Bubba products in two week period and of course a week later they go on sale.

This net is very useful by far my favorite tool to use. Holds the weight, while being really light and compact. I forget I have it sometimes because it fits darn near any where. Definitely recommend this one.

Perfect from shore or on the boat heck even from the fishing bridge.

I bought this net to use while fishing from my kayak. I like that the handle folds in half making it more compact, however the hinge when latched comes undone a little easier then i would like. It doesn’t effect landing fish but it is annoying when you set the net down it wants to close.

Also the net does not float so I had to add pipe insulation around the handle. Over all it’s a great net, those are my only 2 complaints.

This thing is solid. Very well built, works perfectly for kayak fishing. Love everything I’ve ever ordered from YakAttack. Very good company. Eco was very quick with delivery and were very helpful as always.

The design of this net is a little bit unusual because the hoop does not form a complete loop. Actually this is a good design because it keeps you from headbanging the fish when you push the net towards the fish.

It packs up small , it is easy to store and the telescoping handle feels strong and operates smoothly. I bought the medium and large size and I am happy with my purchase.

Large is a relative term. We could not find measurements, but ordered it anyway hoping it would be bigger than the other nets that were being sold. However, it is too big. It would have been so simple just to include the measurements.

Also the cross piece is not supported by metal, it’s just net. Would like to return it.

A net is just a net. You have a frame and you have a flexible seine. This net is just pretty sweet. Love the grip, the net itself is pretty sweet (mine is black with a gun metal frame-looks super slick) the size is pretty perfect…net and frame.

I extended the handle because…ok just because… pretty dope I like it A lot.

The net is extremely sturdy. Its not cheaply made at all. Would recommend! It was fast delivery as well. I would definitely buy this product again.

I like the long handle on this net for fishing solo on my boat. I changed the net to an all rubber one for ease of hook removal to get my baits back in the water faster. Once I took the net out of the box the hoop was bent and I had to straighten it to use the store closest to me did not have one in stock to return it.

After the first use I had to sand out the net where the handle slides through it to make it easier to lock the net at the end of the handle so I did not have to stand on the end of the hoop to pull the handle out.

All in all would I buy this net again yes I would just wish they would put an all rubber net on it.

I had a Beckman with a 6′ handle for years but wanted to upgrade to the 6′-9′ telescoping handle for netting fish while pulling crankbaits. I ordered it with the only net hoop that Bass Pro offered. The net hoop is cumbersome and easily catches crankbaits in the twine and loose strings from the stitching.

I have put my old net hoop on the telescoping handle from the new net. Also, the new handle/connection to the hoop isn’t as sturdy as the old one. There is more play/slop in the connection. I had tried a telescoping Ego net but that was crap.

This is a well built product. Very solid construction. The handle is great for trolling but a little long to handle on your own. The bag has a tendency to really get twisted up by fish making hook removal time consuming.

I bought this one after having the other EGO Reach with rubber coated nylon because my jig eyes & hooks kept getting tangled whenever landing a fish. It’s the perfect crappie net

First time using this net this weekend while crabbing, and it snapped in half. While it is not listed as a “crabbing net” it had a telescoping handle and rubber net, which was what I was looking for.

Will be returning and trying another brand this week.

Rubber fishing nets are the best I don’t have this particular one but I do have one that work great so now you don’t have to deal with a fish getting tangled in a regular net.

Although I knew about the issue before I bought the net, I did not give it much thought as the PRO’s outweigh the CON’s great size, light and strong enough for me. Still, i nearly lost it a few times not having the locating button clicked in and the net coming off the handle.

I have since improvised by fixing an Oring to the end to act as a bump stop in case of another misalignment of the button.

Works awesome! I clip it onto a Carabiner that’s attached to the top of my fishing backpack and because of the stretchy cord i can land fish with it whilst my backpack is still on my back. Perfect for a land based fisherman.

Was lucky enough to net a solid Yella within the first hour of using it.

Great Net, Good quality. However I think if your on a kayak it might be better to get something with a longer handle. I’ll be upgrading this too, as i caught a rather large fish and could only fit 1/3 of its body in the net.

But for bream / bass etc its pretty neat.

Landing net arrived broken. Was not suitably packaged for the item. Contacted seller by email and did not receive a response. Contacted seller by phone and was advised they would take the matter up with the courier.

That was two week ago. Nothing since. Was considering purchasing other items but not after this experience.

Very good quality product and one that will last. It is perfect for my 18ft boat with the ability to extend. It is easy to wash so if you want a top quality landing net without the big cost you can’t go no further than the Jarvis Walker landing net.

Well it landed my 475cm flathead with no trouble and I’m heading to Bjelkie Peterson dam soon and I’ll give my Feelfree 11.5 kayak a good run and then get back to you

Quality net, very sturdy. It feels like it will definitely hold up over time. I was apprehensive to spend this much money on a landing net. But I’m glad I did. It’s definitely worth the money! If you’re needing a big net, with a very long handle.

You can’t beat this one for the price. I would suggest picking it up at your local store. It will ship freight. Mine got lost with the freight company. So BP shipped out another. It came FedEx and was here within a few days.

I love it extension handle, rubber netting to keep hooks from snagging up plus easier on the fish and nice size. Wanted to replace my old 30 year old netting opted not to this is just as nice only difference is the rubber not hassling with snagged hooks.

This net really extends. I drilled and extra intermediate hole to make it easier for me when fishing alone for king salmon. I didn’t get any big ones yet with this net so im not sure if it’s deep enough.

I love the wide net frame though.
