Best Nest Schedule For Summer (2025 Updated)

It is very modern looking, ergonomic and besides that it is a smart thermostat. Senses when people are away including by scanning the WiFi network and included sensors, which allows for the thermostat to adjust automatically to eco mode and save money.

This product is easy to install and has all of the modern thermostat capabilities, including WiFi. The proximity sensor turns on the display when you pass by, so monitoring the status of your HVAC is almost effortless.

The other feature of this product is, at the end of each day and at the end of each month, you can monitor your system usage in hours of operation and graphically see what effects weather and thermostat adjustments have on total use.

Total usage translates into power bill charges. I’m very satisfied with the operation of NEST thermostats, that I just bought another one for use at my rental house.

Nest thermostat is a beautiful unit and easy to use though I will recommend having professional installation. Love it so much we changed all our smoke detector alarms to the corresponding carbon monoxide/fire alarm units in our home.

Total overhaul was pricey but worth it and they look great.

I bought one from JL to replace a Drayton wireless thermostat which had controlled the boiler for 30 years. Why replace? Because I wanted to be able to programme the thermostat to control my new heat pump.

It looked the part but it didn’t work. I couldn’t get a satisfactory wireless connection to the heat link which controls the heat pump (or boiler). That seemed poor since the Drayton had never had a problem over that distance – it was 11m and the Nest is supposed to work up to 30m.

The Nest helpline instructed me that I had to mount the heat link at least 30cm from any structure including the junction box controlling the heat pump and the shelves on the wall as in the instructions.

The instructions only said 30cm of space from the boiler. Nevertheless another costly elctrician visit and the heat link was resited. But the wireless connection was still unsatisfactory. I had the choice of sending the Nest back or accepting that it wouldn’t work with the thermostat 11m away.

I decided to resite the thermostat into the room next door to the heat link and given that the distance now was less than a metre, it has worked perfectly. It controls the heat pump and is programmable.

Nest may say the 30m distance doesn’t take into account the number or thickness of the intervening walls, but having said that the much cheaper and reliable Drayton Digistat coped.

So this is what I experience with this device support. My head unit was not holding the charge, so I manually had to charge the head unit and run my thermostat. Then I contact this Google store Nest Thermostat support team and we did all kind of long hour technical troubleshooting, then they convinced that the head unit is defectives.

It was under warranty, so they agreed to replace it. they sent me the return label end of August 2022. but the weather and temperature at that time was not in favor for me to sent the head unit back, cause till I get my replacement head unit I will have no COLD or Hot air in my house, so I decide to wait till the weather condition is bit favorable and sent my head unit back to the store by September 20th.

Till today, it is September 27th 2022 did not receive my replacement head unit back. I am in contact with the team and they said another 5 business days to get some response from them. they also said they are escalating this issue and this 5 business days is there escalated SLA.

now my question to the community, which organization in the world rather than Google Nest had this 5 business days for Escalation SLA ? I did not experience this kind of SLA in my entire life so far.

Today I give up with my afford and decide to move on with another product, I guess I will learn something new form that company as well 🙂 just letting you people know, so that you guys can take the right decision before purchasing this product.

We bought one for our first home because the electric company was offering a rebate and we wanted to make our home a little smarter. We did like it, but beware that your local HVAC person hates these things.

It was easy enough to install that we did it ourselves with no issues. However, these do not use/require your “c” (common) wire. What does that mean? Instead of providing continual, low voltage power, without the common your system takes a big gulp of power when starting up your heating/cooling.

The ease of controls were nice and I liked that I could monitor and control the temperature from my phone (for my pets) while away at work. What I did NOT like was the “away” setting itself. Basing on your phones location, it goes into either eco or the minimum/maximum temperatures that you set but their is not a lot of leeway to choose those.

For example, we went on vacation so no one’s phone was near the house but we had the pets there and a sitter coming 3x a day to check on them. Our setting was 68 at all times. Because of “away” mode, the sitter informed us our thermostat was reading 80 now – no good, especially in Louisiana because of the heat and humidity! The system was working fine, it just sensed that we were away and wasnt running (trying to save energy?) to maintain temperature settings.

It would also start these “energy saving campaigns” on its own and ignore its settings and just stay at eco all the time at some times. It ended up adding a small bit value to our home when we sold the house, so thats a plus but we don’t necessarily miss it.

We didn’t see a significant amount of savings on our electricity. I would like to try another smart style thermostat in our new home but maybe not the smartest one that is programmed to outsmart you and thinks it knows best.

I bought this unit to upgrade from Gen 2 because it can both make use of the sensors and it has dual-band WiFi for a stronger signal. It was very easy to install, it looks great, and it’s very intuitive to use, either on the wall, with your phone, or via a voice assistant.

I’ll ding it a little bit because the sensor schedule—that is, when the device can be told to use which sensor—can’t be customized. You have 4 pre-set blocks to choose from, and that’s it. But then the trouble started.

First I got a dreaded W5 error, meaning it’s WiFi radio was no longer working. I contacted Google for a replacement, which arrived promptly… but it kept getting caught in a boot loop and I couldn’t set it up.

A second replacement arrived and wouldn’t correctly read my (very straightforward!) wiring, despite the fact that the one with the W5 error still could. The third replacement had the same issue, at which point I was advised to spend $130 to have a technician inspect my system to verify it was in fact the thermostat that wasn’t working.

So after 6 total hours on the phone with customer support and HVAC technicians, and 3 replacement thermostats, I finally got my fourth one: an ecobee. I had it on and functioning in 20 minutes. My experience is probably very far outside the norm.

I most likely just had a run of bad luck; I know when I see reviews like this for something I have maybe already talked myself into, I think, “ah but that’s just one guy; he’s unlucky or he did something wrong; that won’t happen to me.

” And it probably won’t! But given the sheer number of issues I encountered—from failing components to annoying limitations to inept and sometimes contradictory customer support (who, at the end of the day, are call-center employees and decidedly *not* HVAC technicians)—I’d urge you to strongly consider other smart thermostats.

This one is just not worth the risk or the headaches.

This thermostat looks nice, better than any other thermostat. The installation and general setup is OK, it takes about about 30 minutes if all wiring is there. It also easily integrates with Samsung SmartThings v2.

But the functionality is not as advanced as for instance Ecobee’s. The occupancy sensor in Nest thermostat is pretty much useless. I was home moving around, and the Nest thermostat would switch to Away state thinking that there is noone home.

The remote sensor that came with it does not have an occupancy detection, so all you can count on for occupancy detection is really the smartphones of the people that live in the house, which is not a really nice way of detecting home occupancy.

If you have multiple sensors in the house you only can pick one at the time to regulate on its measure temperature, there is no possibility of averaging in this thermostat. Also, the history view is really poor for Nest, Ecobee did a much better job on this.

And if you download the history data from the website, the status data is in JSON format and it is impossible to interpret. Also, the deadbands are not adjustable for Nest, at least I could not find it.

I did not try its learning feature myself since it already had a lot of negative comments. So, I think if one wants to buy a nice stylish looking thermostat for a very basic use, Nest Learning Thermostat is a very good choice.

But if one wants a highly customizable thermostat which one can also regularly monitor and adjust, then there are better choices , like Ecobee.

I bought 2 Honeywell Thermostats and the first one I bought was able to function my A/C when it was installed it but, when winter came, my heating wasn’t kicking in. I bought another Honeywell thermostat and the same problem occurred.

My home didn’t have the C wire that caused the issue for both thermostats not to work. Had to put the original thermostat back on. My furnace was working fine for winter and when I switched to A/C mode, it wasn’t kicking in.

My HVAC guy didn’t rewire the thermostat correctly and I was losing it!!! The summer has been brutally hot over the last 2 weeks. I saw the Google Nest Thermostat on sale and before I decided to purchase it, I watched some videos that inspired me to try and install this device on my own.

I also bought the trim kit and performed a DIY. I missed a step when I snapped the the thermostat to the base as I wasn’t seeing any power to the thermostat. I didn’t realize there were 2 batteries that needed my attention where I had to remove a sticker.

Once the thermostat powered up, I followed the instructions and it conducted a test. I heard my A/C compressor kicking in and my furnace fan going on. The Wi-Fi connection was also a success and I was jumping for joy!!! It’s amazing that I’m also able to control the temperature anywhere from my mobile device and that it goes into eco mode when nobody is home with presence sensing.

I regret not buying this thermostat a few years back. It’s pure brilliance and I’m loving it!!!.

Very happy with the performance of the device and the interaction with my smart home ecosystem. Price is high, but with the rebates from my town and state, it isn’t much more than a typical thermostat.

The main downside for us was two issues: 1 – we don’t have a common wire in the locations our thermostats are located and can’t use the adapter sold separately, so we had to pay an electrician to run new wire.

The only reason for a common wire is to power the more hungry Nest. Not sure why they couldn’t just include a rechargable battery or even have one as an add-on. 2- We have radiant hydronic floor heating in one room and this Nest is not compatible with the Tekmar control system which regulates that room.

While I realize these are different brands and compatibility is not required, it would be nice if they could work a software patch that would allow the Nest to interact. The patch could be sold for a reasonable price with the proceeds getting split between the manufacturers.

One other annoyance is we wish we could set each thermostat to respond to individuals not being home. Currently if everyone isn’t home, it will go into ECO mode and stop heating/cooling according to the temperature range you set.

However, my teenage daughter has her own thermostat and it would be great if that one thermostat would shutoff the system when she left for work or school.

I installed the Nest about a year ago and it worked fine, up until three weeks ago when it would short cycle my AC. My AC unit would click on and off constantly, sometimes it would turn on and be fine other times it would continue the short starting pattern.

When my AC repair person came out, he told me Nest are only good for about a year – two years, then something like the issue I am having will happen. I thought he had an axe to grind with Nest so I shrugged off his comment and stuck with the Nest after he did his routine maintenance.

It worked or about two weeks and then the issue came back. I decided to put my old thermostat back on and it worked, no problems. For anyone wondering, I had all the proper wires, it was running 27 volts, no coolant leaks, and the coils weren’t frozen.

The issue was the Nest. I contacted customer service and they told me that I wasn’t eligible for a refund but they would send me a base replacement unit. Maybe that would solve the problem, but should a thermostat really only be good for two years? What if this happened during a snow storm? What a liability this could be for them.

I’m disappointed in Nest as I had hoped for a better outcome but just another example of a bigger company getting away with a poorly made product. I know Nest’s are trendy but please save the 200 dollars and go with another system.

Using a couple discount coupons I received a great value for this third generation NEST thermostat. The installation was straightforward using the tools provided with the thermostat. Only the wire hook up required that I carefully watch a video at the NEST website and another users video.

The thermostat has been working for two weeks now. I very much enjoy the web access to control the settings whether Im at home or across the country. My only regret is not investing in this tool sooner.

ITS BEEN A WEEK SINCE THERMOSTAT INSTALLED. EVERYTHING RUNNING FINE. THERMOSTAT IS AMAZING. IF THERES NO NEED TO USE ANY TYPE OF FUEL. THERMOSTAT GOES ON STANDBY. THERMOSTAT CALLS FOR HEAT OR AC ONLY WHEN NEEDED.

The thermostats started out great. We have a large house so we have 5 and plenty of experience with them. At first they worked great with our radiant heat system, predicting the time to heat the thermal mass (concrete floors) and not making it so hot that it over shot the temp.

At some point last year it stopped pulling accurate outside temperatures in our area from google weather. It was often showing 10 degrees colder outside than what the google weather showed. This caused it to heat far beyond the anticipated temperature.

We verified the correct zip code and also reset up a couple to see if it could be fixed. Searched the internet and tried all solutions and nothing worked. Ended up just using another zip that is somewhat close and it works somewhat better.

The next issue is that some have stopped connecting WiFi. We tried connecting them to another separate router. Failed. After some research the problem is the batteries are failing. Low voltage = No WiFi.

First off, we LOVE our nest thermostat. It’s our second one. When we moved into our new house it’s about the first thing we did. upgrade the “factory” thermostat with a Nest thermostat. This time, we bought the one with the extra temp sensor.

Thought it would be useful for keeping us comfortable in our bedroom. It took several tries to get it hooked up to the the main nest thermostat but finally it worked. For a day. Then it lost connection.

We have tried disconnecting it, removing it from the account and re-adding, it, even holding it next to the Nest thermostat with no luck. We have been completely unable to get the additional sensor working.

Really disappointed. And just FYI, we have one at my wife’s office and it took probably 20 tries to get the temp sensor added there, too, so I’m VERY familiar with the process. It constantly timed out and said unable to find the sensor until it finally worked.

This one for our house is just a dud, I’m guessing. Pretty dissapointed.

DON’T BUY THIS!!! Definely not even worth one star based on my experience! The product was so bad out of the gate. It didn’t work upon arrival. After countless hours with their India support team, still couldn’t get it to work.

Finally after hours of frustration, we determined the replacement base was defective. So I got a replacement. Problem still not over. The replacement had a defective faceplate. in order to make it work, I had to use one working base and a faceplate from the first device.

So then, after properly installing it, I realized product’s wifi doesn’t work. The app will not connect. After year the faceplate is now not charging anymore. I called support so any times I’ve stopped trying.

I have reset this product at least 50 times since I’ve owned it. Otherwise I’m left without an AC and I live in hot weather. Just a complete failure of a product. I had a Honeywell $30 thermostat in here for 12 years that worked like clockwork before this garbage Google product.

I’m not surprised to see so many one star reviews. I imagine they’d all be ZERO stars if Google allowed it. The product absolutely sucks.

Called today to try and get support or help for this. After an update, it just stopped working. It only has a white screen. Support determined that it is “broken”. Support suggested I try to contact the store I bought it from to obtain a purchase date.

I am not sure exactly when I bought it. If it is over 2 years ago I was basically told I wasted my money. SO if this is 3 years old— Google says “oh well it’s broken and by the way, you can’t just buy the screen you have to replace the whole thermostat.

“The expected lifetime of this unit was at least 10 years, but 2 to 3 years in it can fail and Google has no support or help for a customer. I know the company doesn’t care. But if you are considering trying the nest thermostat because you believed, like me, it would be easy or save you money then look at other devices.

This has been the biggest letdown.

I absolutely hate Google thermostat!!!! It was installed in the apartment units where I live and I know it is only there to spy on people, hence “GOOGLE”, but not only that-it CONTROLS when it shuts off and comes on!!! I DON’T appreciate that!!!!! Who are you to turn the heater on when I don’t want it on??!!! I have ASTHMA and HEAT exacerbates my condition!!!! And when I turn the thermostat to a certain temperature for the A/C, GOOGLE turns it up or off!!!!! So then it gets HOT in my apartment!!! Then Google will turn it on early in the morning when I don’t want it on because it’s NOT hot enough, now I’m TOO cold -when I NEEDED it on at night to sleep BETTER!!! I had to reset it a couple of times, but Google STILL HAS CONTROL and I WISH I CAN SUE THEM for making my ASTHMA WORSE and making me UNCOMFORTABLE in my living space!!!! Who are you to turn the A/C off a few minutes later after I turn it on??!!! UGH!!!!😡 I want the thermostat that I CAN CONTROL !!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY HATE GOOGLE THERMOSTAT!!!!!!!! This skill works well with the exception of it lacking explanation for setup (not easy). The Nest device you wish to control has to be verbally referred to as it is set up in your Nest account. For example, my Nest thermostat was in my hallway and during setup with the Nest app, it asked where the device would be located so it was named “Hallway.

” After Alexa wouldn’t successfully follow through with commands I became frustrated and wondered why it wouldn’t work by simply saying the suggestion from the skill description. After several tries, I wondered if I needed to say, “Alexa turn the ‘hallway’ to 72 degrees”instead of temperature.

Thankfully Nest allows you to change the name of the thermostat in settings. Go to Nest app >> Settings >> Thermostat >> Where >> Label (and name it what you prefer to say to Alexa). It seems odd to say “hallway” because I don’t just want the hallway temperature changed, so I labeled mine “thermostat.

” I’m happy to confirm I can now ask, “Alexa. change the thermostat to 72 degrees” and she’ll reply, “Setting Hallway, Thermostat AC to 72 degrees. ” The most rewarding part is after the low tone, I almost instantaneously hear the AC come on!.

I purchased two Nest Thermostats for my home. I would have appreciated the plastic trim kit in the box, as the thermostats are so small they barely cover up the hole / old paint color. I was able to proceed after I purchased the extra trim kits (more $$) for just the plastic part (there was another metal bracket included but that got tossed).

The software setup on the first one was okay, but the 2nd installation just would not work and would not find the 2nd thermostat. I retried the same process a few times to get stuck in the same place – a huge time waster.

It took some time of on-line research and forums to see that a large # of other people also had this problem, and Google just had not fixed it for several months. I finally had to uninstall the original thermostat (after it was upgraded) and then was able to reinstall both of them successfully.

I was disappointed at how difficult it was to find help and support on this issue, when it was already known. Do better Google.

I purchased this thermostat after buying a new home. I had one previously in a condo and it worked well enough for what I needed then in a tiny home. I enjoy the features of being able to change the temperature from my phone.

It’s been useful when coming home from a long trip and being able to have my house cooled before arriving or even changing the temperature from another part of the house. However, I honestly have come to HATE these Nest thermostats.

I have owned the original Nest as well as three of these models. I purchased two of these in October of 2020 to replace our upstairs and downstairs thermostats. By January 2021, the upstairs thermostat would not connect to hardwired power and could only be charged with a micro USB.

It then dropped all WiFi communication which is the main reason I wanted the thermostat. I had to call Google and replace it under warranty. The downstairs unit was even more of a nightmare. I learned a long time ago that the “learning” feature is garbage for me and my family.

I had a simple schedule set up in the app. The thermostat stopped using the schedule and kept switching itself to eco mode even though I was always home and had all learning/eco settings switched off.

It constantly had a mind of its own and tried to change the temperature. It didn’t even recognize me as being home even though I had the location services settings enabled. I reset it, ensured the schedule was how I wanted it, etc.

but it did not respond. Now, the nest will only run the air conditioner at night and will not control the unit during the day. I got so frustrated with it, I ripped it out of the wall and re-installed the junky 20 year old thermostat that came with the house.

The only reason I give this unit 2 stars is for the WiFi/app features. I loved that. Other than those two things, Nest can pound sand and enjoy sitting in the landfill. Worthless and a waste of money.

The Google Nest Thermostat was easy to physically install; understand; and operate. It can help you in becoming more energy efficient and save you money! Before buying. 1. Make sure you do the online automated compatibility test to see if you can use the Google Nest Thermostat with your system.

2. Also, go to your electric company’s website. You may be able to GET THE Google Nest Thermostat FOR FREE or a greatly reduced price! It physically installs, well, just like your traditional thermostat.

If you’re not color blind and can use a screwdriver, you can do it. For daily, at home operation, you can set a schedule for the different seasons. Or, you can just walk up to it and make any changes and tweaks.

Away – operate it from your phone. Easy! One surprising thing I really liked about it is that it shows the humidity level in your home! People don’t always relate the house humidity with their comfort and health, but it is a huge factor! In fact, my ongoing humidity level in my new home was way outside of the range of the EPA recommended 30% to 50%, so I bought a dehumidifier and the effects have been a game changer! As someone who travels, sometimes with a variable schedule as to when I’ll return, the Google Nest Thermostat has a temperature (vacation) hold but can be controlled remotely to make the adjustments so that the temperature is comfortable whenever I do get home.

I did encounter 1 issue during set-up. You connect it to your Wi-Fi just like a cell phone, easy. But at 1 point it searched for updates and updated itself. That’s when it got a little confused and glitchy.

So I did a factory reset and started the technology set-up over again. Thereafter things went smoothly and it worked great! I highly recommend the Google Nest Thermostat!!!.

This is my first nest product. I chose it because it was a lot cheaper than the latest version but provides the same functionality. I needed it for heating and connected it to existing old commercial heaters.

Once you get past the connection to the heater(suggest having it done by someone who knows about heater), the software setup is easy. If you are getting a used product, make sure you do a reset before the new setup and you should be up and running in 15min.

It integrates nicely with Google home and the interface is very easy to use including setting up schedules.

After many years as a nest owner (2 in a large home) One if them finally quit working. Actually the base went bed and apparently the base contains some sensors. I’ll get a new base right? Wrong. Base for my model no longer available.

So I buy this new Nest and get it hooked. I just to say after Google bought Nest they have really screwed it up. Now I have to use google home to control the new one and the old nest app to control the old one.

WTF? It took way longer to configure the new one than I ever spent on the old ones. I wish I could just get a base for my old one. AND, I don’t want Google to be collecting data on my thermostat settings.

I will now replace both of them with a WIFI thermostat that isn’t connected to Google.

I have a heating system with “microvolt” two-wire thermostats and Google was not able to provide a way yo use a Nest on the this simple system. So I bought a used 1st-gen Nest to experiment. First, I don’t have 24V power at the thermostat (runs for over a year on two AAAs), so I had to buy a simple 24VAC adapter (could be a $5 option from Google, nut noooooo.

) Then I needed an $8 24V relay so the Nest can switch the heater control without pumping 24V into the system. Trying to find an actual wiring schematic for the Nest was maddening – a million useless YouTubes though.

But in the end, I have a heating control I can run remotely. I left the regular thermostat hooked up in parallel, because Google don’t know winter.

It is not a nest device. Google should face a class action lawsuit against the lie on the box that it is a nest device. If Google’s business model was like apple they would be twice the size they are now.

If Apple had Google’s business model they would be out of business. Make something good not just new.

I bought this speaker so I could listen to podcasts and music on two Google devices simultaneously. The speaker does this according to the Google marketing materials. In fact, this is one of its main selling points.

I configured the speaker to be in a group with my Nest Hub and when I used the voice command “OK Google volume down”, it said “I’m sorry, I can’t change the volume on this device. ” It turns out this lack of function was due to the fact that Google recently lost a US court case for infringing on patents owned by Sonos.

Instead of paying Sonos a licensing fee, Google chose to stealthily rip out voice control features for controlling a group of speakers. It does this by pushing updates from Google servers with no notification to or permission from the end user.

So much for caring about your customers! Every morning something is changed, and usually broken. As of this morning, I cannot even play a podcast to a speaker group let alone change the volume. Google tells me “Something went wrong.

“. What went wrong was my buying the product in the first place. It you are looking to add frustration to your life and to spend countless hours trying to get a device to work as advertised, then buy a Google Nest Speaker.

I have several original google homes in my house and saw these on sale for $60. 00. I ended up buying 3 of them to replace my original google homes and couldn’t be happier. Although these are called Google (NEST) audio, these are basically google homes on steroids, they are not just speakers.

anything the google home can do this can do as well or better. The sound quality is far superior to the google homes, google mini and google hubs. another great feature is the command execution is almost instantaneous! when you give it a command it responds and does the command very quicky.

If I ask it to turn on my lights, with in a second the lights are on very quick! another pro to the google audio is its looks. it just fits in very well with any decor. And finally, it gets pretty loud versus the other google home products.

If you have an original google home, or mini this google audio is worth buying and replacing the originals with especially if you play music on your google homes! Pros: looks good, sounds really good, is loud and has a very quick command execution.

Cons: none found as of yet.

This is certainly a really great product, it provides quite a good balance of base and sound quality. For a small room to medium sized rooms you definitely can feel that base even with just having one speaker.

I can only imagine what it might feel like if I had two of them paired up in a group. As far as talking to it, at first I did notice it was sometimes not responsive as quickly, but I retrained my voice and I turned up to sensitivity a little bit since the base and my distance was quite far away from the speaker.

It has definitely improved and I think just the simple retraining of my voice has helped it. The quality does fill my whole bedroom up where I have the speaker, and even compared to the mini and the hub this is by far the loudest with bass and full sound.

It might not be the home Max speaker, but two of these I think do equate to a homemax speaker so for the price it’s pretty good. Keep looking out for sales that do occur where you could get the unit for $20 off.

Overall it is definitely worth the time and efforts to buy great for music podcasts and much more. The unit does have a little bit of weight so that does feel good and sturdy on a bookshelf or table.

The colors are kind of strange in the way that you might think sand is sand, but it is more of a pinkish hue of sand, and the sage is I guess you could call it a greenish color whereas the blue which is a thing called sky blue or something and the other two white and black are as they would be.

The main controls are basically on the top half so if you tap on the top middle you either play pause the track and then the left and right shoulders of the speakers will pretty much feel like the area you would touch for volume up or down towards the front and then you have the lights that signify the volume rate at which it set on.

It is definitely easy to set up through the Google home app and you can customize the settings under the device settings once you have added it to a room or such. Left parentheses if you want to add it with another speaker remember to add it to the group right parentheses that will basically let you pair the two together and act like one big speaker.
