Best Nes Emulator For Pc (2024 Updated)

I bought this and got the Retron 5 instead thinking I got lucky with something that now takes 5 systems. It lasts a month or so and then completely stopped working. I mean the power would not even work, and slowly each system stopped working one at a time.

It was like doomsday or something. It takes forever to load your games, which defeats the purpose of cartridges, and the save option is pointless, as well as sound track feature, some may like it because you can hook it up to a computer and record I can imagine.

however, it is impossible to rip out your games at times, and will ruin the teeth. You can only use the cordless controller because if you try yours, it will lag even more than the game does itself at times.

You will click to jump on a platform and it wont, or will delay, so playing platform games like mega man and castlevania, becomes a feat. I pretty much bought it to use during the holidays because I had tons of games and no consoles anymore that worked.

After I got consoles later, I noticed my games never worked, and needed rubbing alcohol rub down first , but I cold be mistaken as used consoles are no better sometimes, but still far more reliable than this.

thing that impresses you at first with enhanced graphics and sound to all your games So buy this for a festivity or temporay use. The graphics are definatly enhanced but if you try using your original controllers, they do not respond well and you end up ruining the bottons pushing them too hard to try to get them to comply.

It was an interesting experience to say the least. I will never buy one again though. It self destructs on it’s own much like a lot of cheap boom boxes you buy now that suddenly stop working, and eat your tapes or wont play cd’s anymore.

The fact that the entire thing slowly stopped working is insane. So it was an effort on there part, but they need to fix all these glitches. but. if you are desperate for your old school game fix for a low price, you can consider this a rental that you do not return and expires after a month lol.

I can’t answer any questions about which games work on it beyond those three. I might consider adding more to a list as I try them out, although I imagine others have already done that, so it’s probably unnecessary.

But at this point, I would say it’s absolutely worth the price and beats trying to find original consoles. If there is a con, the biggest fault that keeps me from giving it five stars, it’s the fit of the cartridges.

It is as you have likely read before if you’re looking into these–NES cartridges are hard to get out. The SNES slot has an Eject button, which solves that issue for SNES games. But if you love your NES cartridges, take a lot of care and precision in putting them in and taking them out of the slot.

Too much pressure either way will likely end badly. Just hold down the console and gently pull the cartridge out. This is probably the single most important thing for them to get right, and they simply don’t.

I haven’t had a chance to test a lot of games, but I tried one NES game (Bad Dudes) and two SNES games (Super Street Fighter II and Super Star Wars). All three worked perfectly. Well, not Bad Dudes, but that one had to be cleaned, and then it worked just fine.

Inserting the cartridge is a little different–you can’t quite be sure if you’ve done it right until you power it on. Try not to press down too hard on the games–the way the slot is designed makes it hard to tell if you did it right, so test it out carefully.

The console itself definitely looks and feels like an SNES–I would say it is almost as heavy as an SNES. I thought it would feel cheaper. The plastic it was packaged in certainly did, but the console seems sturdy to me.

(Obviously I would not recommend dropping it, I’m just saying it didn’t feel like it would fall apart in my hands or anything. ) The controllers that came with it worked great. I have yet to try my own SNES controllers on it.

Honestly, I’m impressed. Bottom line is, it played the games with no issues as far as sound or picture (apart from just not translating well onto newer TVs–I’ve played the Retron 5 once, and that one doesn’t seem to have that problem; the SNES games I played looked just fine, but I had to adjust settings on my TV to get a decent picture for NES).

That’s really all that matters to me: does it play the games without any problems? The answer so far is yes. I have read a lot of reviews on Retrons of different numbers, and it made me wary of the product, but since I have some NES and SNES games and my actual SNES died of thus far unknown causes, it put me in the market for something new.

Plus I don’t have an NES, yet I had a few NES games that I couldn’t play without some kind of special adapter. After looking at my options and the games I actually own, I decided the safe bet was to try the Retron 2.

I’m a little confused with most of the 5/5 star reviews for this product; they either give some cons that should certainly warrant a lower score, or they only indicate that it allows them to “relive their past”.

Those types of reviews really aren’t useful and certainly don’t help the consumer make a intelligent decision about this product. People should know what they are getting into, so if you’re a potential buyer, please be careful when looking at the other 5/5 scores people give this and make sure you get all the facts.

That being said, the RetroN DOES work, as in it plays all my NES and SNES games without too much hassle. But it has a bunch of design flaws that are very annoying and some that will undoubtedly lead to trouble during long-term use.

I’ll break it down with the pros and cons: PROS – Picture is pretty good. (though, compared to a ROM it isn’t) – You can use original controllers if you have them. – It works. for now CONS – Very cheaply made.

Sure, it weighs a lot less than an original NES and SNES for easy transport, but that also means it is more fragile too. – The controllers are garbage and feel NOTHING like the original controllers (e.

g. the buttons stick out too far); Precision games like Mario are unplayable. I would definitely pick up the originalNintendo controllers if you can; I did and the difference is night and day. – The controller ports are located on the sides of the console, which is a super weird design choice and thus makes for awkward console setup in your TV stand.

It has a short cord length as well, so chances are you’re going to have to move it to the floor, which sucks because. – Any real impact to the RetroN will ruin your current play and you will need to reset the game.

– The eject button only works for the SNES and it REALLY launches it. – Putting the cartridges in the game slots is very weird; you can never be sure if it’s connected securely or not. Games connected in so tightly (especially NES) that I’m pretty sure it damages the connectors every time you take it out.

Definitely invest in some “dry lube” spay. – For my RetroN, the SNES connector was laid out a bit off center (installed slightly diagonal on the internal board), so it took awhile to figure out why I couldn’t get the cartridge to connect.

– I noticed that the audio is a bit weird in some cases; for example, the Super Mario Bros. 1 “coin grab” is definitely distorted. The SNES audio seems fine so far though. BOTTOM LINE I’m a bit torn about recommending this product, so I’ll give two scenarios: If you don’t care about quality andjust want something to play your old games (likely just for the short term), I might recommend this.

It does work after all. However, if you care in any way about quality and stability, then no, this isn’t for you. Mainly because I have doubts about the long-term use of the RetroN 2 based on its connectors and flimsy build.

Also, those controllers man. they are so bad. I would definitely recommend buying the original consoles, which you can get at a slightly more expensive bottom line.

It functions great, there no problems reading any of the cartridges, & never freezes. I bought this to replace my original snes & sega genesis consoles so I could sell them. Unfortunately the genesis attribute of this system has a fatal flaw, the reset button.

Example, in the X-Men game for genesis you need the reset button to proceed in the danger room levels. Pressing reset on the original genesis console will allow you to proceed but on the hyperkin retron 3 it does a complete reset.

Another example, entering cheat codes on Sonic 2 such as level select, you can reset on original keeping whatever cheat codes already entered but pressing reset on retron 3 completely wipes it & reboots.

At least it replaces my snes but my sega genesis is still useful. I hope I can find a solution to reset function other wise I wont be able to beat x-men on the hyperkin retron 3. & because of this reset flaw, this product is valued too high.

This is a good console for what it does. What it does is play cartridges from NES, Genesis/Mega Drive and SNES/Super Famicom. The only one I haven’t been able to test is Mega Drive, because I don’t have any.

With adapters, you can also play Famicom, Master System and Game Boy. Unfortunately, they didn’t fix the issue that the Mega Retron HD has, where playing NTSC Master System games with an adapter (or flash cart) won’t display correctly, forcing you to switch the console over to PAL to fix the error.

This can cause some NTSC games to not run at the correct speed. While this isn’t a documented feature, Master System compatibility has always been part of the Genesis hardware and it would have been nice if they had fixed the other.

There are HD Genesis clones that run NTSC Master System games flawlessly. Playing games that it’s meant to run works well. I’ve tested many NES, Famicom, Genesis, SNES and Super Famicom games without many errors.

There are some NES and Famicom games that won’t work due to them using special hardware, such as Afterburner. That game won’t work on any clone console I’ve tried it on. However, I have found that this clone seems to be more compatible than others.

I have some newer NeS cartridges that I got as Kickstarter rewards that other HD clones won’t play or won’t play well. They run great on this console. I’ve found no compatibility issues with the SNES (wasn’t expecting any) and none with the Genesis.

This console will even play some hard to play games, like Virtua Racer. Video and audio are what you expect from an inexpensive clone. Video is only 720p and some of the characters can kind of look blurry.

However, it’s still way more resolution than you can get from the original hardware without serious and expensive mods. The colors are a bit off, especially on the NES portion. But, this is what you expect from inexpensive clones.

The sound is also slightly off. But, both video and audio will be close enough for most people. The biggest issue this console has is that it doesn’t come with enough controllers. All of the controller ports are wired to their respective boards and there’s no way to use the SNES or Genesis controllers to control the other portions of the console.

This means the included Scout and Squire controllers won’t work for the NES portion. If you have NES controllers already, you’re set. If not, you need to get a controller for the NES portion separately.

This could leave some people with no way to play NES games out of the box. This is inexcusable, since Hyperkin makes a really nice NES controller called the Cadet. All said and done, this console accomplishes a lot for $85.

It does what it needs to and does it well enough for most people. Those who live and breathe these old games won’t like the sound and video. But, those people shouldn’t be looking at cheap clones anyway.

For people like me who just have a bunch of old cartridges from back in the day and want to play them without the hassle of multiple consoles, it’s perfect. However, not including a NES controller to keep costs down is inexcusable, and I’ve docked them a star for that.

Even if including one made the console cost a bit more, I think a lot of people would think it was worth it. After all, if you don’t have a controller already, you have to spend the money anyway.

My main concern when buying this was I was going to get some extremely cheap product that didnt feel or play well. I was pleasantly surprised to find the packaging that it came in and instructions were high quality.

The console itself looked great and the controllers felt great as well. Nothing about the unit felt cheap or poorly made. I was even surprised that the company (Retron) included a retron sticker and thank you for supporting the brand note.

Wow – I think I found my original Nintendo! No seriously …. It came complete with the random piece of tape that always seemed to make its way onto the machine and some pen marks on the bottom where I could have sworn is the same exact place and attempt I made when I was 8 and tried to write my name on it! Now for the game cartridges- do they work?? Of course it does … when it wants and after you know the trick.

Good thing I remembered exactly what I had to do when I owned this 35 years ago. After a lot of blowing on the cartridge end then a smooth glide into the machine and that perfect little wiggle … viola! Best game night ever! Seriously … it’s EXACTLY how I remember playing it.

Does it rarely freeze while in the middle of playing but only after you’ve gotten further than ever before. yep! But that’s the love of Nintendo. Do the graphics sometimes wig out and switch their colors …yep and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Bottom line …. If you’re looking for the Nintendo your parents hid from you after you came home with an F on your report card and you never saw it again … DK Oldies has it. When you buy from them, put in the comments or send them an email with a feature you can remember on your old machine (Cheeto pieces in the slot or a heart drawn in blue sharpie on the side) and they might have it!!.

Since I can’t seem to get above my “130 points needed to level 9” no matter what I do and have been answering these questions etc I only get one per day and it is telling me to review something that several of you all have been tremendously polite by clicking on the like for the photo of me and my roommate cleaning and putting two original NES (Classic on here) systems.

Mine has been used since I got it around 1987/8 aside from keeping it clean and once checking and straightening a few pins, it still works. I don’t have to say how old I am as the math is there whether I was just born or 6 years old when I got it- haha! But I’ll still accept a challenge to the Dr.

This is a quality buy. An original creative art piece that will keep this console relative for another 30/40 years easy. Everyone whos seen it has all been stunned with its beautifully done artwork. Whats even more exciting about this purchase is the fact that you can watch it from TheDirtyGameRoom channel on YouTube to watch it being made with a quick well edited video highlighting the fine details that has brought life to this console once more!! Dont hesitate to support individuals like this one they deserve a much needed staple in this world to keep the old new.

This is obviously cheaply made, but that being said. it is compatible with some, not all NES games. If you want to be able to play some of the games that you played on NES, it’s great. If you want to play ALL of your NES games, then go ahead and hook up your NES again and play them.

For the games it plays. it’s perfect, easy to use nostalgia. However, if you have a combo like Mario/Duck Hunt, it won’t play it, or a cross over like Qbert, it won’t play. However, the straight up NES games like Mario 2 or Dr.

Mario etc. they play perfectly and it’s much less stress than trying to get the exact spot that the cartridge needs to go down to in the NES to play games and then have someone bump it and you lose your game anyway.

This will play your games without the worry of the cartridge being bumped out of place, but it won’t play every game. It plays some games beautifully, but hang on to your NES to play the rest of your games.

If you have a two or three game cartridge, use your NES to play it. Also, use your NES controllers. They are made better than these controllers and are easier to use. If you use the controllers that come with the system, be careful with them.

We broke one within two hours because someone dropped one. We glued it back together and it works fine, but go ahead and dig out those NES controllers for better quality and less buttons. 🙂 Overall, a good buy if you want to play some retro games, or show kids what games used to be like.

It’s easier to use than the NES and plays some of the games. Great value for what you get. Take good care of it and it will last well. :-).

This unit works great! Well worth the under $20 price tag. Due to the NES Classic Mini being impossible to get, I attempted to fix my 30 year old original NES by replacing the 72-Pin connector to enjoy 8-bit gaming.

I was unable to get the original NES to work so, I took a gamble and tried out this unit and have been thoroughly pleased. All my games work great and I’ve logged some serious hours already. Best part about this system is you can plug your original controllers into it.

The unit itself is super light and to some people could feel cheap, however, I think it’s fine, I mean, it’s under $20 so you shouldn’t expect the same thick plastic from the original NES. The classic 8-bit sound is a tad off, but I really only noticed it while playing Megaman.

To me, it’s a very small negative aspect. In summation, great product, great price.

I love this game console and wish I had known about it sooner! I was about to get rid of all my old NES games and began feeling all sad and nostalgic about it. I began searching for old NES consoles on ebay, wondering how much they would cost.

I happened upon this product by accident, and am so glad I did! Now we can play all our old games and our son can play, too. You can even hook your old controllers up if you have them. The ones that come with it work fine, just different buttons.

The only thing I can complain about is that I thought it was broken when we first got it. Turns out, you have to REALLY push down hard on the game cartridge to snap it into place. I thought I would break it, but hubby tried it and it worked perfectly.

So, press down hard if it doesn’t work at first! I would also recommend reading the other reviews about cleaning the cartridges properly and making sure all the dust is gone out of your games before inserting them into the console.

product only lasted for about 3 months before became un useable. sound- from what is called NES on a chip is what U would expect controller- works good system- outer shell is built well but pin connector is VERY CHEAP is PLASTIC and held in machine with 2 screws that’s it I clean my games before inserting into machine.

Pin connector was tight at first was because new when bought back in May 2021 and WIGGLED left to right to to games out. problem I have with clones is build quality on pin connector for 40 dollars I expected to last longer than 3 months.

mainly I bought this as testing unit but NOT buying clones anymore. Do not have pic to show was thrown out long time ago. I tested mario duck hunt on official NES and booted up fine so I knew then system was DONE BROKEN.

Even though still powered on was pretty much USELESS because of pin connector Yes I tried cleaning pin connector did not help at all.

Since my new gaming TV did not do well with analog composite video signals from old gaming systems, I felt the need to at least experiment with one of these new HD console clones. I kept my expectations in check, since this is far cheaper than the top-of-the-line Retro AVS or NT Mini.

It has to be said, I was genuinely blown away! The picture over HDMI is super sharp, and there is no significant input lag that I can measure (do remember to set your TV for 4:3 display though -it automatically outputs a widescreen picture).

I will be putting my original NES back on the shelf, because this has now become my main way to play NES games on my main TV. This is almost certainly the best clone console I’ve ever bought, and I really look forward to HD clone versions of the SNES and Genesis now too.

I really enjoy my tea plus I just got it today and it plays nice the controller isnt the best possible BUT its more than just ok it plays classic nes cartridges and they look good on my 32 inch 1080p Samsung smart tv.

It controls responsive and is compact and convenient. I would recommend this to anyone not wanting to throw the big money on a analog nt or other high end nes systems but if you want a good value and decent performance this is your box.

This small console plays Gameboy games, Gameboy Color games and (beta) Gameboy Advanced Games. It has played my Gameboy games and Color games beautifully. I have no issues with the controller I actually really appreciate it.

The GBA games that can be played are absolutely gorgeous on the TV. For example: Metroid Fusion is very impressive to look at and plays flawlessly. Colors and screen ratio are perfect. Because of the ability to play Gameboy games on the TV with the SQ, we have purchased more classic games and falling in love with the classics all over again.

Again, the beta for the GBA is just that so not all GBA games can be played but some will you just have to test them out.

The System Works; but it doesnt save High Scores like Nintendo Brand Systems do. So if having a High Score is important to you, then this system isnt for you. However? For the Price? Its still worth getting if you enjoy old school Nintendo games from the 1980s.

I was looking for something to play SNES games on and did not want to get a used 25-year-old SNES. After some research, I found out about Hyperkin SupaRetroN HD. I do not have the money to pay for an Analogue Super NT, so I opted for this clone console.

I was happy to find out it plays the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges. If you are dabbling into retro gaming, this is a great place to start.

I have an old original NES, but it’s getting long in the tooth and a bit temperamental, so I ordered a ‘Hyperkin Retron 1 HD’ despite some perhaps questionable reviews. I’ve tried a number of games, and I have to say I think the Retron is performing better than I was lead to believe.

Most folks complain about the sound, but where I notice the difference is that some of the colours in a few games are off. An example is Dr. Mario; the Mario on the side of the screen has a pale green hue to his skin.

I also noticed while playing 1942 that the letter ‘E’ is missing from all the onscreen text (ie. R_ADY PLAY_R ON_ ) Other than that, it’s played every game I’ve thrown at it without any noticeable issues.

I have also tried this with the Super Games 150 and Super Games 143 multi-carts, and it works great with both. I have only used it with A/V composite (red/white/yellow) so far, but the video quality was on a par with my original NES (other than the colour being off in a few games).

Sound is not bad; I do notice it sound a bit fuzzy and tinny with certain sounds, like the coins in Super Mario. The unit comes with only one Hyperkin controller. The controller seems decent and on a part with an original controller.

I’ve also used it with my original NES controller and a Cirka knock-off controller, and both were fine. Is it perfect? No. Is it good enough for a casual gamer who wants to play an occasional hour or two of old NES games.

Yes. I recommend it despite a couple of minor flaws.

My unit didn’t work with the first few games I tried with it. I decided to hit it with a few blasts of air, which helped a bit but then used electronics cleaner. The cleaner made a huge difference, and now my unit works without issue.

If yours doesn’t work right away, try cleaning out the contacts, as it seems some of these might have been sitting around for a while. All in all, a great value for anyone who can no longer use their original NES but still wants to play the games without buying another NES.

Pros: it’s under $20, plays most games, is lightgun-compatible, it’s small, the controllers are good, sound for most games works fine. Lots of games work as intended and without a lot of a difference.

Cons: It grips cartridges very heavily (common issue with Famiclones), cartridges tend to have some wiggle and can require fussing with them or blowing cart to run fine, cartridge connector is not very good and pins lift a little after repeated use, sound is not perfect on every game (Super Mario Bros, for instance, seems to almost be missing a sound channel or something), plastic housing on console and controllers is cheap plastic, a rare video image jump to left and right, PCB looks cheaply put together inside and components are not very good quality.

Missed opportunities: no branding on the controllers which makes them look bare in the top-middle, no coax out (RCA only, mono audio/yellow and white plugs only), voltage is 6V which throws off being able to use USB for power input, could’ve used ABS plastic and they didn’t, could’ve used better components but didn’t.

Things I love: the controllers are actually pretty good and feature turbo and slow, aside from no branding and cheap outer housing. Most games work just fine with little difference. It’s compact, about the size of 2NES cartridges.

It’s simple and easy to set up, aside from some catridge frustrations. Thoughts: You know, Hyperkin, if you just made your console with quality parts, you could charge more money, build brand loyalty, and I would totally buy it.

I would drop $50 on the same device but with sturdier plastic, professionally made PCB with quality components, and a better cartridge connector. Your concept is phenomenal but you’re held back by how cheap it was made.

The original Famicom is a calming piece of technology. Each cartridge fits snugly and securely in its safe space. The controllers have a place to rest after a blistering game of Super Mario Bros. The NES was designed to resemble a VCR, whereas the Famicom is form, function, and art.

Gold, pure gold. Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom Shnen Weekly Jump 50th Commemorative Edition is as good and fancy as it’s name suggests. It’s, gorgeous, it’s cute, it’s awesome and it is the Famicom Mini Classic to have.

It’s collectible and any Shnen Weekly Jump and or Nintendo fan should have one. It is more a collector’s item then an everyday videogame, even more if you can’t read Japanese, but a must have no matter what.

It’s awesomely bwell put together, the build quality and materials used are superb, and the box mimick perfectly a Shnen Weekly Jump magazine issue (well, a pack, actually) and for collectors, I think it could be store and displayed together with the magazines.

A must have.

I had a hard time getting the NES classic and had given up. I found this Japanese version which carries 22 of the same games on the NES classic, with 8 popular Japanese titles. I feel this version is even more authentic since Nintendo is originally a Japanese company and the games were originally programmed in Japanese.

It’s been my dream to own an nes and finally I have a chance to thanks to dkoldies. I got my nes and plugged it up and popped in a game and white screen. I was confused cause it’s supposed to be refurbished and I thought everything would be fine.

I thought it was the game itself but it’s clean as a whistle. After putting the game in different positions it would come on. Sometimes. Other games I had to keep pressing reset for it to come on. I don’t know if it’s the 72- pin connector or what but it’s kinda annoying.

But when it works oh baby it works. I’m having fun playing dr mario.

I have wanted to purchase a NES for the longest time to introduce my kids to the games I grew up with, but wasn’t sure where to find a quality system. I found DKoldies and decided to give them a shot, my system and game arrived quickly, and the condition was excellent, I popped the game in and it fired up no problem.

The buttons on my original NES controller felt as responsive as they did years ago and I was off to the races. I look forward to furthering my collection using DKoldies, because it is clear they care about the quality of products they are putting out.

I picked up the RP2+ to ease the wait for a Steam Deck. It’s been a long time since I’ve tried a dedicated emulator handheld (since GP2X, Dingoo A320, OpenPandora and more recently the Revo K101), and I’m not totally convinced by the use of Android but it gets the job done and makes some standard things easy and familiar.

Plus the Google Play software library is available. The RP2+ builds upon the Android OS with a custom launcher and onboarding Wizard. These mostly handle installing and configuring the emulators you might want to use, though the emulator landscape changes often and some default choices are suboptimal.

Videos show the RP2+ running Wind Waker (Gamecube) which it. almost. manages, but the real ceiling is Nintendo DS, N64, PS1 and Dreamcast (which ReDream does exceptionally well). For DS the recommended (paid) DraStic emulator hasn’t been updated for a couple of years and seems abandoned (by last accounts the authors were working on an open-source Retroarch core to replace it) but melonDS in RetroArch works brilliantly once you get through the rigamarole of configuration.

It hurts to say it, since DraStic takes me back to the OpenPandora days, but it’s not worth your money. You can configure melonDS to use the right stick and buttons in portrait mode and have the two DS screens occupy almost the full RP2+ screen.

It’s a little awkward, but works well once it’s set up. I could not rebind the controls in DraStic. For the most part all “retro” games just work, and a few PS2 games (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 for example) are playable.

Why four stars? As someone who’s long lost the inclination to spend too much time tinkering with emulator config, it still has some friction to shed. Particular issues included having to manually copy BIOS files (since the auto copy available in the launcher did not seem to work), manually replace or set cover art for many games (particularly anything suffixed with (Europe) which breaks the title match), a weirdly high minimum screen brightness.

obnoxiously bright in fact. and myriad other minor software issues. Additionally the use of non-RetroArch standalone emulators means that shortcuts such as menu access, quicksave and so on are different between systems and can be tedious to remember.

I’d recommend using a RetroArch core where possible. I don’t know what the limitations might be, but it feels like the system is crying out for a dedicated hardware shortcut button. The hardware is excellent.

WiFi has been fine for the very limited things I’ve done over it. Copying even multi-gigabyte files over USB to the SD card worked well, though, so the trial and error of setting up wasn’t too painful.

I’ve even installed SmartTube Next and while it’s awkward on a 640×480 pixel screen it works well. I’m probably preaching to the choir, but be prepared to put in some effort to get things how you want and use in-game saves and save states liberally.

Once you’ve got it set up it’s mostly plain sailing and a truly fantastic little device.

Wanted to use my Retroid Pocket 2 a bit before leaving a review. Comes with a number of games available under the Retroid OS – most of these are fighting games, but couple of gems in there. Wasn’t what I had got it for as wanted to re-play some of my older games.

The Android OS is a little difficult to navigate at first, and saving progress in game or changes to settings didn’t work. Looked online for some FAQs and found out that need to save and close the emulator in the correct manner.

Since then not had any problems and not lost a game save, and after using for a few days the menu screens become easier to navigate and can quickly jump into playing a game. Runs games smoothly up to PS1 and the battery seems to last for a long period of time between charges.

You may need to charge at same time if playing for long periods of time with more graphic intense games. Would recommend getting the screen protector and HDMI link cable at same time with this.

A surprisingly effective handheld gaming device. Good build quality, feels solid but not heavy when in use. Screen is clear and bright. Buttons feel nice and responsive. Sound quality is good on the in-built speakers but you can use a Bluetooth headset as well.

As an Android device it comes with all the app and customisation options you’d expect so there’s plenty to tinker with. Comes with a number of preinstalled apps but I’d say it’s best to look online to see how to get the best setup.

Minimal setup out of the box however if you want to get right into it. Overall very pleased with this as a retro gaming enthusiast and really it can’t be beat at this price point with the sheer amount of functionality it gives you.

I was 13. The SNES came to me as a gift and I was in awe from the moment I saw the crackling CRT picture and heard that amazing Koji Kondo music of Super Mario World. I played it so much I got blisters on my thumbs.

I put band-aids on and just kept playing. Regrettably, as I became an adult, and headed to college, I left the SNES in the past and haven’t owned one until very recently with this one from DKOldies. The moment I loaded Super Mario World again, I time traveled to that overachieving 13 year old gamer and played for hours before I sadly had to get back to adulting.

As I consider what I ordered and received from DKOldies, it was clear just how much care they put into maintaining the quality of these systems and games. Everything just worked. And the support has been incredible.

For what DKOldies provides, for the exemplary support, for the quality, and for the great bundle pricing such as with this SNES Star Pack, I thank them for being a part of fulfilling my nostalgia and keeping that gaming spark alive.

Wow, where to start? The SNES is my most favorite gaming system. Born in the early 80s, I grew with each and every Nintendo system and some of eachs most popular games. Now almost 40, I still go back to SNES when I really want a fun, reminiscent video game experience.

I’ve played and beaten all 3 Donkey Kong Country games. The opening music and game play of Donkey Kong Country brings me back to being a child in my bed room. Diddy’s Kongs Quest in my opinion is one of the best games on the SNES and only a handful of games can come close to comparing to its soundtrack.

Donkey Kong Country 3 I acquired and beat later in life. I enjoyed it thoroughly as it seemed to have more to do and secrets to uncover. You can not go wrong with this gaming package.

Not an authentic unit from Nintendo. Darn close. You wouldn’t know it but for a few minor details: – Generic AC adapter and HDMI cable – Color of controller connector is black, not gray – Serial number is printed on the box and starts with the wrong characters In retrospect, the labels covering up all trademarked material should’ve tipped me off, but I didn’t think anything of it at the time Nothing against knock-offs, especially one this close to the real deal.

The problem is that: – The item is listed as a Nintendo product, without any indication to it being a knock-off (stickers on trademarked material aside) – Cheap knock-offs and other 3rd party systems with even more games are available for a lot less – OS seemed less responsive than the one in the authentic unit I’ve since replaced this one with, which raises concerns about the quality and stability of the system’s software If it was openly listed as an unofficial replica or whatever and cost half as much I’d probably give it 4 stars.

Very good system! It plays SNES games perfectly. with a few minor issues. The gameplay and graphics are totally faithful & correct. If you love SNES and your system is lagging, don’t hesitate to get this system.

If you’ve tried replacement controllers, you know the controllers are very important. These are great – no complaints there. The power supply is simpler than I remember from the SNES, a simple DC adapter, that thankfully plugs in more firmly than the original SNES power supplies.

For A/V, the system only plugs in with RCA – no coax splitter or (regrettably) HDMI. Minor issues: – The reset button is faulty – don’t use it! It can cause power to flicker and wipe a saved game. If you want to restart on a game with save data, use the main power switch.

– The controller cables are just a tad short, so you may need to place the system on the coffee table to play comfortably. So there are a few small issues, but really, this is a great a value and a no-brainer if you want to play your old SNES games.

The girls love it because it has both snes and nes Slots, That way they can play both games. It has fun games to play with since its got both slots, They don’t have to play oneor the the other, They can play either game snes or nes games.

above all this is a great game system to play.

My younger kids like this game, but the older kid was not impressed. The game is worth the money if you are just introducing them to gaming systems. All parts included, very easy to set up and my kids lived it.

The system arrived much earlier than expected ( huge bonus as this was the holiday season). The care that went into the packaging was meticulous! The system, the games, controllers, and Duck Hunt gun, arrived exactly as described! Initially, we only tried Mario Bros.

in the system so the kids could play and it worked perfectly. A few weeks later I switched the game and couldn’t get Mario 2 or Mario 3 to work. Being that it has been many moons since I was a child, I only remembered the tip about blowing into the cartridge to clear out any dust.

I simply called DKOldies and was greeted by Brittany who patiently listened as I explained the problem. She addressed me by name, went over a few tips and tricks regarding how to get the games to play, and followed up immediately with an email that carefully and simply detailed all the steps I should take to clean the game cartridges and how to properly place them in the system.

While they do clean and test them at DKOldies, they do get dusty and dirty pretty easily and it’s only feasible that after shipping, they may need to be cleaned. I did as Brittany instructed and each and every game works perfectly.

I have since ordered 2 original NES controllers and 2 more games from this company that arrived equally as quickly and packaged as my original order. My first time ordering a product from this company. Yes the system was incredible they do a good job with the refurbishing process. If you want a vintage console this it the place. That being said if you don’t pay extra for a pair of original controllers you might have the same problem I had.

The controllers that come with your console are a brand called Old Skool controllers you can look them up at other sites that review products. The problem I had was when plugging in the controllers to your console they might be so loose they just fall out, to the point you would need someone physically holding the controller plug in place, no good.

After shooting multiple emails to service no response. OK, after a couple days I contacted sales I got a “closed due to a snowstorm” that’s fine no problem. Finally I got a friendly email telling me that sometimes the controllers are tight and need persuasion.

Um no not the problem I explained in the email. Fine! I took it upon myself to just order a ORIGINAL controller and guess what?? It fit how it is intended to. I would have returned the 2 controllers but I need a pair for a retron 2 I purchased and they work fine nice and snug so they do have a purpose just not for my vintage machine.

I like this company but I feel like I needed to do most of the leg work to remedy the problem I was having. please take this as constructive criticism not a bashing. I will continue to do business with DKoldies and hope they strive for excellence in the future.

I just purchased this NES Fan Favorite pack, it came in the mail yesterday and I was so excited!! I hooked it up immediately and started playing! Everything is in perfect condition and works amazingly!! I grew up on the original NES/Super Mario Bros.

1,2,&3! Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite! I got an original controller with my package and I also purchased a new replica one, they both work great! I also got the converter kit. So happy with my purchase and so happy with the quality and company of DKOldies! Definitely am a life long customer now!.

Glad I got it. The controllers are stiff but useable. Select Down shortcut to exit a game doesn’t work most of the time, but the reset switch on the mini works just fine. Can save games that didn’t have a save feature before.

Not sure if there is exactly 3k games but I’d believe it. All the games run just fine no problems. Best version of the snes mini on the market in my opinion. I got it because I tried turning on my old consoles for my niece when she came to visit so she’d have something to play with.

They didn’t run well so I’m glad I got this.

I had the original version of this game system in the early 90s and loved it!!! Im not a huge gamer like my kids are, because systems like the PS4 are too complicated to play for me. Too many buttons and joysticks for this old guy in his early 50s!!! Once I get back into the groove with this system I may try my hand at the newer game systems again.

Its all coming back very quickly for me, and I love it!!! Good little splurge for me. Fair price. I highly recommend it for the nostalgia alone!!!.

The size of the pad was a bit of a surprise, much smaller than I anticipated. The player was well packaged and was delivered earlier than expected, so that’s a bonus point. Set up was very easy, just plug in and go.

Quality of the games were quite poor and the controller was a bit iffy at times too. Sometimes the games shut off without warning half way through gaming, which was annoying. Suitable age group for this player would be 5+ or even earlier.

Wow this little gadget is amazing, I could not believe how simple it was to set up and then I was shocked that it had over two hundred games on it. My Autistic daughter struggles with x box etc but these retro games was slow enough for her to play and the more challenging ones for another day.

This super gadget can be taken in my handbag for visiting friends or to take on a holiday and as long as there is a TV then I can have a coffee break in peace while she plays. Well worth getting and it’s a super bargain.

Great value for money, bought as a birthday present for a friend’s son. I had a sneaky play on it before wrapping it up, I had a lot of fun playing it. Might have to buy on for myself!

This is a great console for someone who doesn’t want to fuss with raspberry pi’s or emulation. It’s plug and play and offers a portal to simpler time in gaming history. When gaming was about the fun and the experience, not the realism.

The interface is bright, user friendly and has a classic 16 bit style theme song. It offers a few different visual options to make it more like the original, or more modern. The technical aspects of the options exceed my ability to describe.

The only con I have identified is the length of the controller cord. 5 ft. just isn’t long enough. in this day and age when everyone is accustomed to wireless controllers reverting back to a wired controller system can be annoying.

I have to move a seat closer to the tv just to play as it doesn’t reach to my couch. but this is a minimal issue. if you’re playing at a desk with a monitor, you’re golden. The game selection is fantastic.

21 classic games covering just a bout every game genre that SNES was famous for. Especially RPGs and Action RPGs. I would have loved to see Chrono Trigger included, but the selection offers plenty for fans of all kinds.

The scarcity of the console drives the price up unfortunately, but I still think it’s worth the cost for any fan of the SNES. I paid $145 plus tax. All in all,i’m very happy with my purchase and look forward to playing through every 1 of these classic games.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This is not an authentic Nintendo product. It is a cheap glitchy knock off with poor resolution. Though the box, packaging and device look identical. you wont notice a difference until you start playing, which is the main point of purchasing this in the first place! If you want a chaep knock off, there are plently of other options that out perform this pice of garbage.

Otherwise if you want to feel robbed go ahead.

Pros Nice Retro Aesthetic Controllers are good (User experiences may vary. Should be able to use other wii style controllers with it) Comes stock with a dozen or so of the greatest SNES Games. Modable (!!!) Cons These things are getting kinda expensive; Maybe the Retro look or controllers aren’t for you.

Isn’t this just a raspberry pi? (shush you) Needs a special adapter for extra space and perhaps different controllers (or controller extenders) to really get the most out of this.

Growing up, Tecmo Bowl and RBI on the original 8bit NES were my favorites. Ordered the console and 2 games a month or so ago to show, play with my 10 y. o. Received them, and the controllers would not work.

The refurbished NES console was “sensitive” and would just flash about half the time i tried to get the game going. This is not necessarily DKoldies fault. I remember this being an issue in the late 80’s early 90’s when i used the same console, games.

However, the controllers,though they looked brand new, would not work at all. Buttons did nothing. Tried the “jam it in further” option on the hookup for the chargers which was common for the same equipment in the late 80’s, 90’s.

Again, an issue long before DK Oldies was a company, however, never could get them to work, so there was an additional issue with the controller hookups, or with the receiving end on the console. Ended up sending everything back to Pennsylvania/DKoldies headquarters.

I was excited to use this controller and it looks perfect. Feels great in the hand. And, I must admit, I only tried one specific unit, so it’s possible this item will be fine for other people, but the unit I received had problems from the beginning 10 minutes.

It worked sporadically. The controller just didn’t perform 100% of the time properly. It worked fine most of the time, and then for many attempts, it wouldn’t respond well. I liked the fact that it looks authentic like the old-school NES controllers.

But looks are not the most important thing. (If it is, then yes this model is what you’ll want, such as to make a belt buckle or something like that. ) Spend a couple dollars to get a better quality performing controller like the INNEX one which my vendor also carried.

That one works great even though it doesn’t look like the old NES ones.

If you want a controller that feels like the original SNES controller, this is NOT that controller. It’s very stiff and half of the time when you hit right or left, it registers up and down as well, which makes most gams impossible to play.

Also, with Steam and other programs, since this controller is recognized as a 2 axis controller(NOT one axis with buttons), Steam won’t recognize some features and causes a lot of trouble. I actually have video evidence of me playing with this controller on my Twitch account and the Start button causing random issues! The first time I played, the Start button caused the emulator to resize from 3x to 4x and back.

After reconfiguring the controller, the start button turned on and off the sound. So these have a mind of their own and are totally not good for anything. Don’t waste your money on these.

I received this controller in the mail, and much like the n64 controller that I bought previously from the same seller, created by the same company (retrobit), it works great. The buttons are very responsive, the D-pad has a lot of roll, the start and select buttons are rubber, and when comparing it to the real snes controller, it honestly feels better in a few ways.

The colors are accurate, other than some of the grays being a bit lighter or darker than the original, however, this does not matter at all and does not affect the performance of this item. The L and R buttons are better than the original in my opinion, and the start and select buttons seem to be a bit more responsive and feel more satisfying to press than the original controller.

There are no cons to this controller, I have played through Yoshi’s island, part of final fantasy 6, and earthbound with it, and have not had even a minor problem.

Most of the times when I connect this to my Windows 10 PC, the system recognizes it, but it won’t detect any button presses or dpad movements. Then I have to reconnect the cable and connect again, and keep trying until it works.

I also tried this on a MiSTER FPGA, with similar results. Sometimes it won’t work initially but it suddenly works if I leave the adapter plugged for a few minutes. If the above trial-and-error method is acceptable to you, then the product should otherwise work well.

This thing works great when its working. It has good reaction time even for fast paced games. The only issue I have is my computer will say “unrecognized USB device” when I plug it in so I have to unplug and plug it right back in 5 or 10 times and Windows will finally recognize it.

I am using it on Windows 10 so maybe that is the issue or maybe its something else with my computer. Sometimes Windows will decide to no longer recognize it in the middle of playing games and I will have to unplug and plug it in again.

I have used many other USB items in the same port I am using this adapter and they all worked fine with no issues. It works really well when it is working and I would give it 5 stars if not for the plug/unplug issue but, again, it could be my setup or Windows 10 or the adapter its self.

From most of the other reviews I have read, most people are not having this issue.

After getting the NES adapter for Christmas and being thrilled with its performance, I decided to try the SNES adapter too. I own four (4) controllers I wasn’t even sure would work, but after plugging the adapter in and mapping my controls, it works just as well as the NES.

If there is any lag, I can’t tell and any other problems I have I attribute to the controller rather than the adapter. I would definitely recommend this for those that have SNES controllers they want to use for PC/MAC games.

Ohkay, Any cartridge system is going to have flaws. Original or emulated. And those flaws carry over. The turbo cards work perfectly though, surprisingly. But for an emulated software system: games play at the correct speed.

No more 2x speed Sega! No more wtf Nintendo fast slow fast huh?. This works. Even better than base applications alone on a PC or Mac. My only complaint is the cartridge sockets are a bit tight. But thats an issue in every modern cartridge system.

Once you get a cartridge in and seated correctly you could literally use it as a handle for the system. So be careful with your carts. Make sure the contacts are clean. Theres no extra give in the sockets.

The Retro freak dose a number of things exceptionally well. The system outputs in 720p on modern TV’s giving a very clear picture, the system also allows you to control aspect ratio and pixel smoothing allowing for a full customisable experience.

the system offers the ability to save and store back ups of your games so unlike the retron 5 and other emulation based systems games down have to be reinserted and downloaded each time. The number of systems of exceptional making this the gold standard for retro gaming offering support for the illusive for the turbo grax 16 from the get go and Sega sg1000 and game gear games down the road.

If you feel like taking the leap grab the premium version the included controller is great but using your own classic controllers is cool too also if your like me your going to want the adapter to play NES games that look great and load almost instantly.

the power adapter is a little of but once its assembled its fine. you will need your own mini Sd mind you if you want to back up more than a few roms. it is a same that the console only comes in blank white which is a little disappointing but.

you get what you pay for and the games look amazing on this system that supports more games than any other aftermarket console. you wont regret grabbing this system!.

First of all, item showed up several days earlier than projected, so that was cool. Product is exactly as advertised. I have found no issues with it. The graphics look great on my HD TV and I have not noticed any lag.

I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking to play their retro cartridges on a newer TV.
