20 Best Navy Exterior Paint Colors (2023 Updated)

I purchased this product because I was looking for FLAT BLACK paint. I search other Rustoleum products but no ” Flat Black “. When I first started it was watery, but after stirring for several minutes it finally thickened up.

Yes, it started out blueish but then the black showed thru but it wasn’t ” Flat Black “. Why doesn’t it say it will dry a satin finish on front of can. Now I will have to go out and try to find FLAT BLACK paint.

This was a waste of time and money !! Not recommended.

TERRIBLE PAINT : I bought RustOleum Painter’s Touch Flat Black Water Based Paint to paint a wooden table for patio use. In the can and upon first applying, the paint appeared blue but later turned black.

It was like brushing on Elmer’s glue. uneven, runny coverage. Advertised as “Ultra Coverage”, it took three to four coats to achieve decent coverage. The appearance is definitely not Flat Black being more like Satin.

I’ve just finished the project so it remains to be seen how well it holds up over time. If you desire ease of application, satisfactory results and a flat black appearance, avoid this product.

I’m extremely disappointed in this paint, Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover Premium Latex Paint. Some of the worst paint I’ve ever used. In accordance with instructions from Rustoleum Customer Service, I applied it to a surface that had been primed with Zinsser 1-2-3 primer.

I used a high-quality one-inch brush. It was very difficult to get this paint to cover uniformly. And then after I applied the paint, it dripped and sagged. Terrible!.

Brand new can. Shaked loads as instructed. Only trying to paint white over white, and yet achieving 100% coverage was nearly impossible at 40cm (as specified on can). almost all the paint ended up blowing away onto nearby objects (no wind), and that which reached the object was so irregular in its pressure that it resulted in runs, drips, and visible chunks of paint.

Absolute rubbish. Never buying again, especially considering that I know its price, like the price of everything else at Canadian Tire, has skyrocketed in the last few years.

Vibrant color with depth and richness. Covers very well! Used on an old plastic flower pot that would’ve gone in the trash had I not thought to pop into Michaels to grab spray paint. The cost was a fraction of what a new pot would cost, the prep and cleanup was minimal.

Very happy with the product as well as the customer service. My only gripe, for lack of better word, is the lack of spray paint choices at the store but I’m not mad about that. actually, it’s probably better the pickings were slim as I had less to choose between (lol).

The color is nice. That is it. I was using it on an old metal cabinet that had been thoroughly cleaned and dried. The paint went on and seemed to repel as I sprayed and even though I was going lightly the first time around it still dripped horribly.

I didnt know what to do so I was dabbing at these drips hoping next pass would be different. It was getting worse. I called my husband in to help and he couldn’t believe how bad the product was behaving.

Now there are some dried lumps I have to scrape off and I ran out of the paint so I have to invest more money into this junk to finish my project. While that was drying I painted the inside of the shelf with a White for contrast by Rustoleum and it came out perfect.

So it is definitely this product.

What can’t Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear do? “Clearly,” it makes painted surfaces shine brighter than most other spray protectants on the market. I know this to be true as I have tried all of them, I believe.

Crystal Clear makes them able to withstand outside weather elements especially well. There is an art and skill to spray painting, and it wasn’t until recently I even bothered reading the can label. The can tells you everything to get great results! That being said, a guy can still make mistakes (spray unevenly, get the can too close to the surface and cause a run, or even miss a spot and run out of paint).

Crystal Clear makes your mistakes look intentional, I have discovered. The literal shiny glare makes mistakes look less noticeable as the light reflects the covered object in ever-changing patterns depending on the angle of reflection and your eyes.

Sorry for the explanation, but I teach science. Two words of caution: ALWAYS paint in a well-ventilated area, preferably outside. Also, purchase a painter’s mask so you do not inhale the enamel mist in the air.

The masks are surprisingly inexpensive and really work well. After all, you get one set of lungs, so keep them healthy. Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear is the best product for clear-coating, especially if the object, 1.

will possibly get wet, and 2. had or has rust you do not want to spread.

Bought 2 cans of this quite a bit ago for around $5 and just got to use it. A few years ago i spray painted a stainless steel 13 gallon waste bin and it had started to look worn. So i used this which was darker than what was on there.

wow it went on so easy and the finish was so smooth and i only used a little more than half a can. I had no blockages, the nozzle made the perfect spray pattern, the coverage was amazing and the hide was great even though i was doing red on red.

The pressure in the can was such i was spraying from about 15 inches so not to apply too much paint. for some reason they want $17 now. which is a joke. buy it somewhere else for about $5 to $6. Spray cans can be a bit hit and miss this can i used was brilliant so i believe i may have got lucky.

I had used topside paint for my metal front door and some wood trim on my kitchen counters. The finish is great if you do the prep work. I used it on some wood trim around my tiled kitchen counters. This paint held up to daily use for over ten years and remained glossy the whole time.

The only thing is the stron chemical smell while drying so be careful when using in enclosed spaces. My front door was super nice and glossy for years. Even with a soft brush you get a very smooth surface.

I will use this product when I paint my RV.

This is great paint. Easy to apply and looks great. I used Rust-Oleum red, white and blue to paint a mini pontoon boat I refurbished a couple years ago and loved the way it turned out so decided to use the same paint on 3 flagpoles I needed to paint before setting them up.

I used brushes on the boat and I rolled the flagpoles with a 3 inch roller. Both methods gave me good coverage and a great finish. Prior to applying the paint I used Rust-Oleum Marine Metal Primer.

I used this paint on a shower stall in our house. It is an old, maybe 50 year old, fiberglass shower. I spent a lot of time removing decades of soap buildup, and who knows what else. The product “Scrubbing Bubbles” worked well, but be sure and rinse it off.

I also used a steel wool pad. The final step was using a palm sander to scruff up the surface, and a shop vac to remove the dust. The paint is thick and gooey, kind of smelly. But the short nap roller worked well.

For corners and odd shaped surfacesI used a brush. The paint kind of smoothed itself out, even though it had brush stokes when applied. The result is very nice. Smooth, glossy. One coat worked for me, but the original surface was light in color.

So, it worked out. The shower looks like new. OK, maybe not new, but nice enough.

I normally do not do reviews on line but, this sparked me to give one. I do not know what Glidden is doing to their paint. I have never had a problem until I used this particular paint. This has got to be the worst paint I have purchased from Glidden , EVER !! I have read other reviews on other web sites with the same problem.

I figured must have been bad preparation or have never painted before. Well , I was wrong I purchased the High endurance with primer custom color. Does not hide on first coat. Do not re- roll once you put it on.

The walls were light pale blue eggshell , and spot pre primed after repairs made, and it will sporadically pull off of the existing paint and primer re-rolling over it. You can not even roll in different directions spreading out the paint and roller lines without it pulling off after it sits about a minute while rolling out the wall.

I know what Glidden will say bad preparation, bad roller cover , or something on the wall to cause the pulling. Well Glidden PVA drywall primer latex was used as a primer over drywall repairs , walls sanded scratch coat to remove dust and dirt previously painted over , washed down with warm soapy water , dried 24 hrs and painted.

Used a Wooster 3/8 nap roller cover. I have spent the last 40 years as a home improvement contractor painting with many products. From the very expensive to the bottom line paints. I was stuck because I ran out of Behr , so I purchased this paint.

Behr was definitely a one coat no pulling off the wall paint no matter how may times you rolled over it. My camera is broken on my phone or I would have given pictures. Sorry ! I am very dissatisfied with Glidden now.

Almost $ 60. 00 dollars wasted on 2 Gallons of paint and a trip to Home Depot now an hour away.

I had great, even, saturated color from Lakeside Green in two coats on interior double doors. It has a nice low shine to it. Summerhouse Yellow went on like pudding, then melted into drips. I have a lot of sanding to do before a second coat on a primed front door, which is a distinctly suboptimal result.

I’ll buy a different, more consistent, exterior paint for other projects.

I have many colors in this particular paint. One coat application is all you need, but it’s entirely up to you. This paint is wonderful and I will continue to purchase more colors in this brand of paint.

I had bought this same color from another seller before because it was on sale and a beautiful color. Found it here for about the same price.

The GOOD: I have used Krylon spray paints for 30 years and always found them to be fast-drying, no runs, drips or errors, as their old ads use to say, so I trusted this for use on plastic auto trim. The BAD: HORRIBLE paint! I would swear it was Rust-Oleum with the associated bad attributes, easily runs, causing drips and laps.

Super light coating, still has drips and runs. Wait more than 30 minutes to add more coats, and the previous coat will wrinkle! Old Krylon never did this, but this all-surface Krylon paint is nothing like that.

The UGLY: That would be the finish you end up with! I have sprayed all kinds of surfaces using Krylon conventional paints for decades, including painting outdoor lighting fixtures in direct sun by day, and heated by the lamp at night, lasting for years with an excellent enduring finish.

Not this all-surface paint! Couldn’t get a good first light coat, and additional coats wrinkled the base coat. Very disappointed, and tossing out the rest of the can! Will never buy this again!.

I have used the Rustoleum Industrial Acrylic Enamel before and it is great stuff. Easy to apply, dries quickly and is amazingly durable. Holds its gloss much longer than any other product I have used.

Hard to beat for exterior applications.

easy to apply not involving sophisticated equipment conventional spray gun will do the trick apply direct to metal no problems

I’ve always found Rustoleum to be top notch. My favorite paint in their line is the primer for rusty metal.

Bought this for a chimney breast wall that was not in great condition. Had previously been daubed in a dark pink/red and not done well. Had plenty of The Hague Blue for the job in hand, so just got on with it.

Covered instantly and brilliantly, no need for a second coat. Looks amazing in any light, from any angle. Would highly recommend !.

I’ve seen that a previous reviewer gave the product 1 * however my experience of this paint is quite different. Bought on 3 for 2 and did a large feature wall behind my bed along with 2 large alcoves.

I still have 1/3 of a tin left and returned 2 that didn’t get opened. I can honestly say this is the best paint I’ve ever used. The pigmentation is amazing, the coverage amazing, it’s too early to comment on colour fading but I can say that I marked the wall when putting the furniture back together and it wiped clean off.

It has a lovely chalky Matt finish and I’m so so pleased with the result that I’d consider swapping permanently to this paint. I’ve always used Dulux but fell in love with Farrow and Ball Hague blue.

So deviated but Dulux may never get me back now. other than Dulux Pure brilliant white. Although I dont reccomend the kitchen clean easy white it was like trying to paint with jelly. Farrow and Ball paint also goes a long long way.

Incredible colour, it took me a while to find that perfect colour for my feature wall and this fits the bill beyond all expectations. It paints very evenly, two coats and the wall is perfect. It’s very “Matt” no sheen, almost chalkboard texture, but such depth of colour I’ve paired this with Dulux Pebble Shore and it is a great combination.

It’s an expensive paint, but it shines through. Probably the nicest paint I’ve ever bought and used.

I bought this as have used farrow and ball before and their paint is so good for cleaning. However, although this is advertised as washable and wipeable, it really isn’t. Before purchasing and paying for a painter, do a bit of research in to F&B paint finishes to see if this is for you.

It isn’t recommended from F&B for any high use areas. It isn’t shiny either, like a previous description says, more a chalky finish that is very porous and not wipeable. I will be re purchasing the same colour elsewhere, in modern emulsion – which is a paint that can be wiped over and does have a slight sheen to it.

So unfortunately it’s a redecorate for us, just a few months after finishing.

Have used this paint quite a few times and contacted F&B when I’d a problem the first time and discovered that if it’s too warm when you use it then it dries too fast and you can thin it down with some water.

The secret is you must use the F&B primer. Any other primer doesn’t get the same effect nice tried other primers and the paint peels. If you use the matching primer it locks together and the paint lasts years with no chips at all.

You can get marks off with a magic eraser and it doesn’t damage the finish. I’ve painted my front door and the surround was painted in a different paint and a yr later the other paint has a chip and the F&B paint is still pristine.

Only negative is it’s a bit more expensive but it’s def worth the money.

I am really impressed with this paint. It goes on easily and dries very quickly. I used it as an experiment to paint over a latte colour (I needed a quick fix) the result was a beautiful light sage green colour.

I am so happy with it. It only needed two light coats. I have now bought loads of F&B paints to do the rest of my house as I was so impressed. Cleans easily, no odours too which is always a bonus. It costs more than many other paints but in my opinion the results are so much nicer.

I have used Valspar (which I like) Dulux which I think is terrible. I would now rather pay a little more for the better qualilty.

I think this is a good company so i do feel bad saying something negative. But i feel like i have to. I was very excited to try something lower toxic for my kids furniture. I mixed up the plum color and the strong ammonia smell was to intense to deal with.

I thought it was supposed to be low odor, by wow burn your eyeballs strong! (Im really not being dramatic) The consistency also was weird, like smearing uneven mud on the dresser. I powered through hoping it would be alright, but it did not look good.

After it dried i figured i would just sand it down to try something else, but sanding it the ammonia smell was now in a dust cloud everywhere! Even dry the stink is wild. The dresser is pretty much ruined as i can not sand it all off.

I didn’t even attempt to use the mocha color i also bought. I did however use the clear topcoat sealer on a pine wall which i liked. It did not have the ammonia smell. This milkpaint was a disappointment.

Using this type of paint for the first time was rather interesting. Getting the thickness (viscosity) proper required a bit of “fettling”. This is a positive in that I could see situations where adjusting viscosity would be needed.

The paint itself covered well and I am very impressed with the finish. I will be ordering more for other projects. I love the fact it is low/non toxic and cleans up with plain water. I look forward to trying a number of your other products too.

I’m presently painting a wooden toy cut from a piece of dried maple. It’s the first time I’ve used Real Milk Paint and it fully meets my expectations. Covereage is good. Most colours work well with just one coat.

The paint flows nicely and allows for fine detail when using the correct size brush. I’m particularly impressed with vibrancy of the colours. The colour finish seems very durable and seems to withstand scuffing.

The service and delivery (to Canada) was prompt and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this product. John Bolton.

I’ve worked as a professional painter in the past as well as painted multiple home projects recently. This paint is so bad that I bought a second gallon assuming the first must have been defective. Maybe both were.

Applied in temperatures from 58f-90f. Like an oil based paint, in application it’s prone running 5-30 minutes after the project is done being painted, and similarly any attempt to fix these just makes a bigger mess.

Unlike oil based you can’t sand it down. The paint skins over after ~20-30 seconds, on larger objects such as doors it’s impossible to avoid horrific lap marks. Multiple coats eventually cover this as far as color, yet the paint doesn’t self level so the brush strokes are obvious and ugly.

Speaking of doors, the dry time to use in two weeks, so plan accordingly if you mistakenly buy this paint. Repainting over a prior white paint which was cleaned with TSP (and rinsed of course), with primer or not (tried both out of curiosity), it took three coats to get complete coverage.

If there was a zero star rating this would get it. I’ve been happy enough with other paints purchased from Ace, which all have their pros and cons like any normal paint. The only pro I’d give this paint is after a month of dry time, it does wash well.
