20 Best Natural Shampoo For Psoriasis (2023 Updated)

I have full body dryness, and haven’t had luck with anything to treat the scalp except for overnight soaks in lotion and temporary relief from coloring/bleaching (no idea why). Some shampoos/conditioners are great on my hair but leave me with itchy scalp.

I’ve been using SAL shampoo for a couple months, and my dry patches have definitely reduced. It’s not perfection, there are still flakes. Though it does leave the hair shiny, and so far I’ve had minimal itching.

The price isn’t great for a tiny bottle, so I’m going to try their SEL version next to compare before possibly repurchasing.

I have super fine and thinning hair that gets oily within a few hours of washing. I think some of my issues come from years of overusing dry shampoo without realizing how it builds up and suffocates my scalp.

I have tried so many shampoos that do not help. After a week of using this, I’ve noticed a decrease in oil production as well as eliminating a few bumps I got on my scalp. Actually, I woke up the morning after shampooing without my hair being slicked to my head.

The only three negatives: one, my hair seems less receptive to heat styling, which I fix with Oribe Thick. Two, I love the fresh scent delivered from shampoo – there is nothing with this one. The second isn’t bad – I just use a little Oribe or Kristen Ess or Colab product and it smells great (or add body spray to my hair.

) Really might be a ‘pro’ because I don’t have to worry about clashing scents. Really hoping that, in the long run, this will help with regrowth. That brings me to my third negative – PLEASE make this in a larger size.

I’d buy salon size pump bottles of it if I could. The 4. 5 ounce size is kind of wasteful.

I stopped using coconut oil on my hair because it made my hair weighed down and I was also losing so much hair. The whole purpose of using coconut oil was to prevent dandruff. Unfortunately, with stopping coconut oil usage, my scalp developed more and more dandruff.

Then came this amazing Neutrogena T/SAL Therapeutic Shampoo. This shampoo is the best for removing dandruff and deeply cleansing the scalp. I noticed a huge difference in dandruff on my scalp right after a single use.

Now my hair and scalp are cleaner than ever. I like that this shampoo is fragrance free and it’s mild yet powerful. Thanks to this shampoo, my hair is also silky smooth. The only downside is that it can be slightly hard to comb my hair since it is already very dry and this shampoo dries it a little bit more when thoroughly cleaning my scalp and hair.

I still rather use this product than the comedogenic coconut oil since my dandruff is completely gone and I am not losing too many hair either.

From the moment I started using this shampoo, I could feel the effectiveness upon my scalp. I tend to deal with itchy scalp on a regular basis and no matter what brand of shampoos I use, nothing seem to help relieve it for very long.

I could tell the difference from the beginning, when I started using the Neutrogena T/Sal Therapeutic shampoo. I could feel it working immediately and the itchiness seem to go away instantly. I can see and feel the difference with my scalp, since I have started using this shampoo.

It doesn’t have that constant red blotchiness that It often did. My only small gripe is that the relief doesn’t lasted long if you don’t use it on a regular basis. As long as I use it on a every other day consistency, my scalp is fine.

If not, the itch seems to aggravate somewhat until my next wash. However, this shampoo has helped out my scalp tremendously and is something that I will purchase and use on a regular basis. So long other shampoo brands!.

Okay. So I really don’t know if this stuff is “curly girl” approved (probably not), but. It’s amazing. I tend to use really mild shampoos that are free of sulfate and harmful chemicals and I notice that I get a build up on my scalp over time because I’m probably babying my hair and scalp a bit too much lol.

I was worried that using this might strip my hair and leave it dry, but it didn’t! If anything, my hair was SUPER soft after using this. Even while my hair was wet as I was rinsing this out, I could feel that my hair was really soft and that it hadn’t overstripped the natural oils or caused a lot of tangling.

No itchy scalp, no frizz, no straw-like hair, no buildup. It does what it claims! Cleans away buildup WITHOUT frying my scalp or hair in the process. I’m impressed! I will continue to buy and use this product.

The only downside I can think of is the cost. It’s a little on the expensive side considering the tiny bottle imo.

I suffer from dermatitis and have been struggling to find shower products that help my skin and scalp. While I do like my current products, I noticed that after a year of using them, they aren’t as effective anymore, so I have been trying to find other products to alternate between.

I came across Wild Naturals on my search and am really glad I decided to give them a try. I purchased the shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I LOVE the body wash and conditioner. The shampoo is good, but as someone who itches a lot, I prefer a product that foams a bit more (just makes me feel cleaner), so I have to use quite a bit to get that effect.

As a result, I will likely go through the bottle pretty quickly. The body wash is great and I definitely feel clean after using it. The conditioner is amazing! A very small amount goes a long way! I did notice that if I leave it in for 2-3 minutes as directed on the bottle, my hair is greasy the next day, so now I only leave it in for about 1 minute and that has made a big difference.

I am going to continue using their products and hopefully my dermatitis will improve.

I have been using this shampoo for years. I do not use the average drug store shampoos and conditioners anymore as to lessen the chemicals my family uses on our body and hair. This Theraneem shampoo is scented with pure essential oils such as rosemary and peppermint.

It is very invigorating and you can feel the clean you get after shampooing. But, it’s an all natural clean which I feel comfortable with using on myself and rest of family. It does not have a thick consistency and may even seem watery compared to the average shampoos out there.

But, do not think that has anything to do with its cleaning power. The essential oils in this alone clean dirt and kill bacteria so it is very potent at doing its job. Then, of course, there is neem oil in this which is known for medicinal properties for the skin and hair.

Neem also is used to rid parasites, head and body lice, acne, fungal and bacterial issues, etc. You can google ‘neem medicinal’ if you’re interested in learning all about that. It gives you a pick me up as well because of the peppermint and rosemary oil in it.

I even use it on my back when I get occasional acne there. Highly recommended to anyone that wants to use a safer, natural, yet effective shampoo.

I bought this as a convenient replacement when I ran out of my beloved Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo, but it really doesn’t stand up to that comparison. First and foremost, I don’t smell or feel the tea tree! The Paul Mitchell even feels cooling on the skin, a sensation that tracks with my experience using straight tea tree essential oil as an acne spot treatment.

It’s my favorite part of using tea tree products, I find it wonderfully refreshing. Unfortunately, this shampoo doesn’t have that, and the smell weirdly reminds me of a can of Diet Coke—sharply metallic and vaguely artificial.

I feel like I’m going crazy every time I use it, because I feel like it *shouldn’t* smell like that, but it really really does. However, it is an effective shampoo, lathers well and leaves my hair clean, so it still gets a couple stars.

The shampoo product is not working for me to control my scalp dandruff. An 8/10 condition. It may need a couple of months to work effectively. Also, I find the bottle difficult to squeeze to release the shampoo, esp when hands are wet.

I understand the need for thick and rich shampoo but very hard to get it from bottle. I like the fragrance.

I originally purchased 6 bottles of the hand sanitizer and then 6 pouch refills. I had been looking for months and buying everything possible. DS Sanitizer smells amazing and for the first time ever my hands are actually soft and not cracking.

I will search no further. I then purchased a volumizing shampoo for me, and the Dandrene for my severely disabled son who gets sores on his scalp. Within a week the sores were half gone. He is also severely immunocompromised with respiratory issues which makes Covid very frightening and the need for sanitizers a must.

The hair product was just a guess after using new hair products for me and in the end ALL of the products I have tried are excellent!! I highly recommend this hair product Dandrene and the volumizing shampoo and the sanitizer.

The fragrance of all three products are wonderful and functionality is even better. Truly Amazing. THANK YOU!.

I have moderate plaque psoriasis on my foot (a strange area to have it, but the same symptoms as everyone else). I have tried every “over-the-counter” treatments without having to resort to doctors. This has been my NUMBER 1 game changer!! I’ve tried the cream and that did help on my worst days when it was a bad build up 😖, but once that’s tamed and I started using this product, it kept the area hydrated and less itchy! It still hasn’t made it less noticeable, but that’s my fault for forgetting to re-apply a few more times throughout the day.

My Target stores in my area can never seem to keep it stocked, or just don’t care to stock it, but Walmart has been known to have it too. But most likely I would recommend getting it online and re-stocking that way.

But I do HIGHLY recommend this product if your psoriasis is just unbearable. It definitely helped me out when I needed it and I know it will help you, too!.

US FDA allows 5-percent solution coal-tar in medicated shampoo. This is 3-percent solution so while it works well enough, it could be stronger. Due to the worldwide coal-tar shortage and due to coal-tar considered to be a caner causing agent, coal-tar shampoos are a more difficult item to be found.

When found with sufficient strength to be beneficial, expect to pay a premium price. And expect the price to go even higher as beneficial strengths disappear all together off the market.

This is one of the only ointment/cream that does anything for my psoriasis. It makes the scales less and helps reduce the redness by a lot. Downside is it smells and the color of it is pretty gross looking.

But it’s a small price to pay for comfort and relief.

Developed itchy scalp this winter, was going to get Seldun Blue Naturals but it was sold out. Saw the TGel finally back in stock so decided to try it given the high rating. Warning, the smell is STRONG! You are going to smell like freshly paved street because of the tar content.

It did leave my hair feeling clean. However, it didn’t do too much for my itchy scalp. Be sure to use conditioner as far up the hair strand as possible to mask the smell. Your bathroom will smell like car shop for awhile.

If you struggle with scalp psoriasis and dandruff you must try this shampoo. My partner loves it! Nothing else has help relieve his itchy, flaky scalp symptoms that usually follow after a psoriasis flare up.

The smell isn’t very pleasant as it does have 1% coal extract, but it gets the job done. The texture is thick unless you mix is with some water first. It does foam up a little bit depending on the amount you use.

My partner tends to leave it on for 5 min max and gently massages the scalp with his massage brush to focus on the trouble areas. On the other hand, I suffered from excessive dandruff last year. I tried Head Shoulders along with Selsun Blue, but no shampoo was helping with that intense burning of my scalp and dandruff until I tried this.

While my boyfriend uses it more often, I use it every other 5 days when I need a deep cleanse as it helps detox the scalp. I leave it on for 2 min max, but definitely follow the instructions on the bottle to see what works best for you.

Both of my kids get dermatitis, and if anything at all irritate their skin, it gets really inflamed. One of my kids got ringworm and using OTC clotrimazole was not only working, but it was getting worse, to the point I was concerned and said if it didn’t improve within a week we were going to see the doctor for a prescription.

We switched to another anti fungal cream which worked better but it was still slow to improve. I got some t/gel and had him wash his body with it in the shower then put the antifungal on after. This combo helped a lot.

He still has ringworm for about a week, but the shampoo helped with the inflamed skin. Eventually the whole infection was cleared. I tried it as a shampoo when someone took my regular fancy shampoo to their bathroom.

I don’t have any scalp troubles. The shampoo does have a strong smell that’s not entirely pleasant, but I wouldn’t expect a medicated product to smell good and I don’t think it makes sense to add fragrance to cover it up.

Wouldn’t perfumes and scents be irritating to people who have sensitive or easily inflamed skin? Also, I only experienced the smell while I was using it in the shower. When I was dry, it didn’t seem to leave a lasting smell on me.

Don’t be deterred by comments on the smell. It’s designed to do a job for the skin and it does it’s job exceptionally well! I bought a double size bottle to see if washing my dog’s paws will give him relief.

He’s been prescribed a dozen things for his itchy skin and paws and none of them have ever made a difference. Will be keeping a bottle of this around from now on for my kids’ [and maybe the dog’s?] skin issues in the future.

This soap smells so bad, like moth balls and rubber! BUT it really works. My dandruff was getting so bad, my scalp was very dry, red, and ALWAYS itchy. My hairline and where I part my hair were especially bad.

Anytime I touched my hair I’d have constant flakes coming out. One use made a huge difference. My hair wasn’t as itchy and I had less flakes. I really didn’t want to use it a second time because of how bad it smelt.

But I decided to give this product the benefit of the doubt. After the second use I didn’t have any dandruff on my hairline or my part. I had some on the top part kind of in the middle but it was VERY minimal.

I decided to use it all over and the result is, no redness no raised patches and no flakyness, even my uvb psoriasis lamp could not cope with this last flare up (due too Astra Zeneca) but this product has done the trick.

Will have no problem purchasing again.

I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I RECEIVED THE MG217 THAT THERE WAS NO PROTECTION SEAL ON THE OINTMENT. PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE HEAT IT WAS ALL OVER THE BOX AND A MESS. I CALLED THE ACTUAL COMPANY AND THEY HAVE SENT ME ANOTHER BOTTLE.

So I have a very oily and potentially ry scalp(weird combination I know lol). My hair is thick but very fine, hence the oilyness, and is very difficult to manage some days, especially if humid. My dad used Neutrogena T-Gel for years when I was a kid due to his dandruff and I started using it as an adult to help manage my dry and itchy scalp and it worked fairly well for a few years until I met my wife and found the extra strength version.

WOW! I gotta say its far more effective for me than the original. If I go more than one day, one and a half at most, without washing my hair then my scalp starts itching with a ferocity to drive any man bonkers.

But the Neutrogena T-Gel Extra Strength works amazingly well for my scalp. It doesn’t matter how itchy my scalp is, as soon as I use the Extra Strength it immediately goes away (most likely the coal tar in it) and my scalp feels amazing.

Now it can dry my hair out really bad if I have to use it frequently certain weeks so I have to combat that with alternating the T-Gel extra strength with a moisturizing Tea Tree shampoo afterwards to get some manageability back.

Overall I do not foresee my shower not having a bottle at all times lol.

I’ve suffered with seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp for absolute years and have always been able to manage flare ups until recently. I’ve had a lot of stress and it made my condition the worst it’s ever been, thick white patches that would only scrape off my scalp after I washed my hair and the scalp was damp, only to return the next day, I also had itching and scaly scabs that looked awful.

I tried everything I could buy , Selsun 2%, nizoral 2% , head & shoulders clinical, even prescription scalp application, none worked, not until I tried T Gel, after 6 weeks using it 3 times a week my scalp is clear, it took the full 6 weeks.

I will now only use this once a week to maintain a healthy scalp, I can’t praise this shampoo enough.

This is an old school dandruff shampoo. Started using it in high school and I buy it every so often when the choices are limited. It has a pungent smell to it due to the tar, not unpleasant in my opinion, just noticeable.

This formula has never been very effective for my particular psoriatic scalp issue. Very little improvement. Nizoral and nioxin for dandruff however, worked wonders for me so I very rarely turn to this particular product anymore.

I have been through so many shampoos for about 6 years, I developed psoriasis in my scalp having something to do wtih hormones after having my son. The only thing that came close to helping over the years has been Paul Mitchell tea tree so now I am switching between this and that and I like this one better.

I do think after a while you have to change things up and not use the same shampoo all the time. Vitacost does not carry this conditioner but i ordered the dandruff one until I can find the conditioner that matches it will be fine.

I recommend this. I have tried everything on my scalp (coconut oil, tamanu oil, apple cider vinegar, several different natural shampoos) and this one along with fish oil and milk thistle daily seem to be doing something.

The skin issues & liver are related. do some research. :).

Feels so nice and rich. Leaves my hair feeling healthy and silky which is great compared to most tea tree oil or medicinal shampoos that often leave my hair so dry that I can barely comb through it.

I use this champoo twice a week and it really help to keep flake away for a couple of days. i do wash my hair first and then rinse and then i use it after i have dried it. let it stay for some minutes and rinse well.

at last use a good hair mask. then you are ready to go.

Used this product Herbal Glo conditioner and the shampoo for many years. Best one I have found to ease my scalp Psoriasis. It is expensive but I still buy because of my results. Doesn’t take out my hair colour (which is organic and no chemicals).

Leaves hair clean and soft.

I got this due to REALLY itchy scalp. This product did’t fix the problem but its probably me. It is nice thick and conditions well so not a total loss.

its great conditioner; no snarls, and smells like medicine but it works well so you dont mind that, also feels like its working right away; must use daily; it isnt a cure; but its a nice option!

I’ve psoriasis for a long time and have used many products. Some worked for short periods of time, so I I found this products years ago and tried it. It has been the best for my issue that I’ve found.

It’s hard to find in most of the retailers on the shelves. So ordering online is where it seems most available. I lucked up today and found it at CVS. Been searching for a while. It actually works miracles on my scaling scalp.

Clears it up and my hair feel healthy again.

Bought this for my husband’s psoriasis and he’s really impressed with how well it’s working. The lather smells like a burning tire factory, but his hair doesn’t retain that odor at all. He only has to use it two or three times a week for it to be effective.

It is not working very well for me. I am doing the recommended program with this and the tar shampoo. My head still itches and is actually more sensitive than before. I do alternate with baby shampoo as recommended.

My dermatologist had no comment. No suggestions. I do wish it would work better. You should give it a try. Do not leave the acid shampoo on your scalp too long or it will burn your scalp. Actually make it sore!.

This shampoo isn’t good; it’s perfect. It’s the best lifestyle purchase if you are suffering from dandruff, itchy scalp or, in my case: seborrheic dermatitis. Before Balmonds, I used Bioderma shampoo, it’s not a very natural solution, but it is an extremely drying one.

But I’ve stopped purchasing that for Balmond’s shampoo instead. It instantly takes away any irritation and cleans not just your hair but your scalp with its antifungal, anti-bacterial properties. This shampoo paired with Balmond’s scalp oil is just unbelievable; I can’t remember the last time my scalp has felt this great.

I can’t stress it enough; if your scalp is annoying the heck out of you; this will be your best purchase in relation to haircare.

This shampoo is truly amazing, it is the most soothing shampoo I have used on my scalp where I have a bit of psoriasis. I also don’t have to wash my hair very often with this shampoo probably once a week if that and my.

hair is lovely and soft and shiny. I have found that this shampoo not only leaves my scalp really calm and not feeling tight but it also reduces my psoriasis. Couldn’t be without it! Only negative is the plactic bottle.

What about using a biodegradable plastic?.
