24 Best Motherboard For Amd Ryzen 9 3950X (2023 Updated)

For the first 48 hours that I had my pc built, it ran pretty good. The CPU ran a little warmer than expected but not enough to freak out over. Ran everything at the highest settings and it didn’t even struggle.

After 2 days, I powered it on, all the lights came on and fans started right up. But would not display onto my monitor. Changed hdmi ports on both the monitor and the back of the computer. Changed the cable.

Thought it was the GPU but the hdmi port on the motherboard wasn’t working either. After swapping out GPUs, still same thing. It’s like the motherboard wasn’t sending any signal out or even communicating with any of the components.

Also the PCU started running the temp of when I was gaming AT NO LOAD! Have done everything that tech support told me to do and so far it seems like it’s the motherboard. Also doesn’t help that I later found reviews that it’s a very common issue with this particular motherboard.

Bought this motherboard recently ready for the new AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPUs. With PCIe 4 support for an nvme slot and graphics card it’s well future-proofed, and this has some of the best component support of any B550 board, while still being well below the £200 mark.

Construction is incredibly solid and it looks great, the running temperatures are great, and it has an excellent amount of RGB support, especially with the JCORSAIR1 headers included in the Carbon boards.

However it would have been wise to include a connection lead for the Corsair header, as the Corsair RGB Hub that can be connected directly to it doesn’t come with the necessary 3-pin female to female extension cable, and finding the cable itself is incredibly difficult without spending money on the Lightning Node Pro kit.

This is largely a Corsair issue, but should be noted. The wi-fi and bluetooth connectivity is great, especially for the price range of this board, and the usb connectivity is fantastic. If you want a future-proof AM4 board without needing the extra features of an X570 board, which run hotter and cost more, then there aren’t many with a stronger feature set than this board.

Thoroughly recommended.

This isn’t the board I wanted to buy – I was originally going to get the Tomahawk but it was out of stock. and I wasn’t willing to wait, despite the higher cost, which is more than I wanted to spend.

I’m glad though that this is the one I got – in the end I won’t miss the extra £35 but I’ll be glad of the higher spec when I upgrade my CPU in future. It’s got loads of USB ports including the newest gen and both front and rear USB-C, which is rare on B550 at any price, its got 2.

5G ethernet, wifi and blutooth, the VRMs are way overbuilt and will handle absolutely anything you care to throw at them, and the heatsinks on them are HEAVY. There are no issues at all with VRM temperatures, unlike some last gen products.

I got a shock when I picked the board up out of the box; it’s got some real heft and feels like a premium product, and the integrated I/O shield is nice. Just be careful when you’re holding it that it doesn’t tip out of your hand – almost all of the weight is in the VRM corner.

The design is attractive in all black (besides a tasteful smatter of white and carbon effect for branding) and, being a person who dislikes rainbow puke RGB all over everything, I think the RGB on this board has been done well, with just two small lit areas, on the VRM heatsink cover and under the chipset heatsink.

They could be a little brighter though. It’ll also link up with the RGB in your case and sync via the software provided. The software is good, it does everything you might want it to do I think. The only obvious (to me) oversight is the fan control – while it works ok, it’s not as good as the fan control in the BIOS but overrides it and I can’t see any way to stop it from doing that.

It also stopped adjusting the speed of a fan, but this only happened to me once. MSI, please either allow us to disable software fan control in favour of the BIOS, or add the ability to select the temperature sensor used for controlling each fan, as can be done in the BIOS.

My one picky complaint, or more suggestion for improvement, would be to alter the PCIe layout, for two reasons: 1/ As it stands, there is space on this board for 8 SSDs, which is crazy. On other boards, using up the second m.

2 slot disables 2 SATA ports, leaving a maximum 6 SSDs if 2 of them are m. 2, which I think is plenty. On this board, it disables 2 PCIe slots including the 2nd full length slot (so no 2nd GPU) and leaves just 2 x1 slots available (not counting the PCIe 4 slot).

This completely eliminates a lot of add-in cards from being used if both m. 2 slots are occupied. This might be fine as well, since the board has just about everything I think the average gamer could want built in to it, and you would still have 2 x1 slots available for things like sound cards or 1080p capture cards (but not 4K ones since they seem to need the longer slot).

2/ I think for the top-of-the-stack MPG Gaming board, it would have been nice if the 16 PCIe 4 lanes from the CPU were split between the 2 full length PCIe slots (8x each), and SLI were supported as well as Crossfire, just in case they ever make a comeback.

This would even have freed up chipset lanes for a 3rd m. 2 slot as well for fast storage which is going to become more and more important in the next few years. 2 is used – though if you are a storage junkie this could actually be a pro Overall, I can highly recommend this board and I’m glad I bought it.

Ordered this motherboard along with a 5950x proc, 1000w Phanteks PSU and dd4 4000 ballistics max 32gb (16×2). Out of the box had a ton of issues like usb ports that wouldn’t recognize Windows 10 installer (actual one from Microsoft physical retail box usb), or usb drive with new BIOs as shipped BIOS didn’t recognize 5000 series proc.

Took some McGuyver like monkeying around like using a type-c adapter to get USB devices recognized to get past that problem. Once I got the A7 bios in place the proc was recognized and usb ports started working normally, I could proceed with W10 install.

OS installed but didn’t find network adapters, downloaded from msi site on laptop and installed via usb, finally had internet. It shouldn’t have been this hard, after all that ran ok for 3 weeks then started crashing with XMP on, turned that off, was stable for another week then started crashing again, disabled Game Boost and got another week of stability now keeps crashing even after a OS wipe and reinstall.

MSI techsupport never called me back after leaving a message and never picked up after being on repeat music loop for 3hrs 1st call and 4hrs the next. Do yourself a favor stay away from this product and I would even say MSI in general.

I bought this x570 unify about a week ago, and I am completely in love with it. It’s the perfect match for my 3900x. The construction quality of the board is off the charts! The VRM heatsink is one huge chunk of solid metal.

In fact, the only plastic found on this motherboard, are the connectors and slots. Everything else, is heavy metal. I have yet to see the VRM’s hit above 40c, even when doing some manual overclocking.

So far, it has been extremely stable when I override the voltages. The bios is beautifully laid out. It is straight forward, every parameter is easily found due to its logically laid out fashion. By the way, as of today, November 30th, the EDC exploit is still live and well, within the latest bios.

I did a cinebench R23 with the exploit running (300/300/10) and got a score of 19,836. Without manual EDC, I was getting just under 19k. My current setup consists of x570 Unify 3900x 64 gb 3600 cl16 Crucial Ballistix Power Color Radeon Rx 6800 3x 2tb WD Black NVME ( 2 in RAID 0, 1 for Boot) NZXT X73 360 AIO NZXT C850 PSU Home made open chassis test bench.

The MSI MEG X570 Unify is a fantastic motherboard. It is packed with features like PCI Gen 4, front usb type C connector, power and reset buttons on the board, LED code/temperature display, monsterous power delivery with massive heat sinks, high quality on-board 7 channel sound, 3 m.

2 ssd connectors, addressable RGB with a Corsair connection as well, and a well equipped I/O panel. There is a good deal more but that is all that comes to mind. The RAM compatibility is top notch. I have two 32GB sticks of Corsair RAM and I am able to run them at 3600MHZ with timings of 16-18-18-36 and it easily handles my Ryzen 9 3900XT processor with an aggressive overclock.

It is a very attractive looking board with a black out design and no onboard RGB so it will look great in a professional rig or gaming rig. I can not say good things enough. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this fantastic board.

Don’t think twice about buying it, I’ve had it for 2 1/2 years and it still works great. The bios is easy to work with and updates regularly. I started with R7 3700x and switched to Ryzen 7 5800x gen4 with no issues.

It has really good vrms and stays cool under heavy gaming. I am currently using 850 psu with Corsair 240 mm liquid cooler, 64gb 3600 ddr4 enabled through the bios for full speed, EVGA rtx 3070 ti ftw3 overclocked at 1985 mhz with afterburner and 6 fans on my mid size case from Musetex.

The board itself stays cool at 34cI’ve never encountered any random shut downs. The boards lighting is really nice if that is your thing, purchased on AMAZON 11/2019 and it has plenty of fan headers.

The two M. 2 on this board are 1 gen 3 and 1 gen 4, I regularly use the type C port to connect my 18tb external hdd for backing up my gaming’s and files. I use a 165 Mhz ips panel for gaming and editing videos.

This has been a solid board for me since day one building my pc. The bios is super user friendly and easy to use, happy gaming.

I bought this motherboard out of necessity. I had ordered a Asrock motherboard on Ebay, but it turned out it wasn’t compatible with my new AMD Ryzen 5 5600G CPU. I am not a computer expert, but I have always good things about the MSI brand.

So when I saw this motherboard on the Best Buy website, AND that is was in stock, I bought it ASAP!! I like the styling, the sturdy construction, the great back panel, and the day I bought it, Best Buy had it as a Black Friday special with a $35 discount!! I’ve had it for about two months now, and I really like it.

What is really nice is that MSI provides great support. Their software provides great integration for tweaking the controls, and even has a sound control app. When I checked for a BIOS update, it was quick and easy through the MSI control panel.

I’m sure I will be happy in the long run.

Was going to replace my existing asus motherboard with this one. Got it home was getting ready to pull it out of the box and something just looked off with it. The board thickness just looked skinny.

So i looked up the pcb specs and found its only half the thickness of my asus and most all motherboards. You ask well is it a big deal and yes it is. The thinner the pcb the more cross talk you can get with electrical stuff so like you could get a buzzing sound in you sound while using to play a game and also the board is not as sturdy because its not as thick so the board can bend with heavier video cards so yes you want to steer clear of this board if you ask me.

MSI has some of the best motherboards out there so spend a few more bucks and get a better one. Also found out this little issue with the 550 boards Motherboards based on AMD B550 chipsets are only compatible with AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors So i could not use this board because i had a ryzen 5 one of the first series cpu’s.

I upgraded from an average B350M motherboard it took a while for a good Micro ATX AM4 motherboard to be released, but this motherboard is really special and I am very happy with it. It has a very premium feel and the VRM and the heat sink is really impressive.

It has some useful features for the future like PCI-4 gen 4, 2. 5 Gbe and newer CPU support. I also wanted the BT5. 1 for connecting controllers. It is well designed I had no problems installing it in my small case.

All the connectors were in good locations which made cable management easy enough. I especially like the SATA connectors and front USB connector being side on for easier access. The clear CMOS jumper is in a bad position this could cause issues because the GPU is in the way but the BIOS has an option to recover if RAM settings prevent boot so hopefully it will be okay.

The BIOS has loads of options it can be slightly daunting at first but it has very good overclocking support and I have been able to gain some extra speed from my CPU and RAM. The BCLK overclock function has given me another 100Mhz CPU frequency which is amazing.

Overall I think this is the best AM4 MATX motherboard.

Pros: For perspective, this my first motherboard since 2012. I’m quite impressed with it, it’s one of the few b550’s that has quite a few features compared to others. Especially at Matx size. USB C Gen 2 header, is actually here.

So that’s nice. Along side other headers and features. 2 M. 2 and 6 Sata , is really good. Shame it’s not like my old Hero motherboard, but then again this has M. 2. Metal PCI Express X16 is also a nice touch, it makes it feel premium.

Even the VRMs are quite large with intergrated IO, With decent air cooling you can push the motherboard hard. Can’t wait to get a hold of a 5950x to see how good it can be. Bios works fine and is self explanatory, was able to update and customise it quite easily.

Cons: Few more USB ports Bit of a shame that the 2nd M. 2 deactivates the bottom PCI Express. Then again there are 6 SATA ports and I don’t need the bottom PCI slot, since this version already has integrated WIFI/Bluetooth 5.

My first build project. After much searching and reading product reviews I opted for the B550M chipset as a great option for the Ryzen 7 8 core CPU and I’ve married it up with 32gb RAM (2×16). The build was straight forward with good instructions and plenty of builds using this format on YouTube.

So far, after vigorous testing, its stands up well. CCL offered the best price at the time and their delivery was exactly as they said, on time and securely packaged. I have no hesitation in recommending the seller or the motherboard.

I’m a huge fan of Gigabyte products; they have always been reliable and have a premium feel to their stuff. My only complaint about this mobo is that the onboard sound ports only supports mic, headphones and front speaks.

If it were 5. 1 sound support then it would be perfect.

Got good deal on this board and it’s working great with Ryzen 3600. Very solid and stable, running smoothly with 3200 RAM. Not tried overclocking. Fan controls are passable.

IšverstiShow in original languageI got this board as it was one of the most popular motherboards for the X570 chipset. I originally purchased an MSI X570-A Pro but returned that because of a defect with CPU power, and I wanted more features like the front USB-C header, better thermals, M.

2 heat sync, etc. The installation was easy and it actually came with a paper manual unlike the A Pro. Plenty of fan, A-RGB, RGB headers. The bios is easy to understand like the previous MSI board and setting up PWM controls and XMP were easy, which is essentially all I need for my case as I don’t do any overclocking.

Returning this however, since the coil whine coming from the socket/VRM is ridiculously loud and driving me insane. CPU is a Ryzen 9 5900X. It was originally a beeping at around 40bpm, so I updated the bios and now it’s just a constant whine along with a buzzing like something’s hitting a fan.

I have (7) Arctic 140mm and 120mm fans in my case and the whine is louder than all of those at idle and noticeable at load. It also doesn’t help that I use open-back headphones as well. I couldn’t find any info about this motherboard in particular having bad coil whine on any forum, reviews, etc.

, so I am not sure if I was unlucky again and had an especially bad board, but at this point I am done with MSI after getting 2 “bad” motherboards in a row. Will be trying out Asus again with whom I have had experience in the past.

Other cons, one is nitpicky: The Wifi is horrible. I have to use Wifi instead of ethernet due to room layout. Windows says the latest drivers are installed, and in fact they are properly installed, but the connection drops every few minutes making it pretty much unusable.

the RGB LED’s on the back of the board are just tacky and look bad cuz they’re just dots on the back of the case because they’re right up against it.

0. 3. The memory “try it” feature is great for a starting point to fine tune your ram. 4. 2 usb 3. 2 and 1 usb c front headers are more than most people will need. 5. Bios has integrated memory reader that will tell manufacturing info on ram chips including dies and optimal timings.

The bad: 1. The clear cmos jumpers are in a poor spot if you have a vertically mounted gpu, you have to remove the gpu every time unless you connect to your case reset button (not the best idea, but when you need to reset while troubleshooting it saves disassembly).

2. The game mode in the BIOS is trash, actually hinders performance, worse benchmarks while raising clock speeds and Temps. Userbenchmark cpu scores and Cinebench score dropped significantly over stock clock speeds on Ryzen 9 5900x 3.

The user manual and website are missing some vital information on shared bandwidth between Sata ports and pcie ports. 4. Placement of all system fan headers at the bottom of the board could cause cable routing problems for full size towers without using extensions.

Plan ahead. 5. The integrated vrm fan is loud at speed, doesn’t really do all that much for cooling. The ugly: 1. Dimm slot A1 will no longer post using xmp, board was purchased Oct 31, 2021 2. Dragon center/MSI Center software is buggy, ram leaks, and rgb doesn’t save settings.

I will personally be looking to go back to asus products as my experience with a few msi products has been rather disappointing. See my review of the MPG CoreLiquid k360.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is my first WIFI enabled board which is actually what initially attracted me to it. From scouring the web, its is the lowest tier MSI offers that has full PCI 4 bus on all lanes which is what I want to further future proof for newer cards and SSDs moving forward.

To start, I would mention that the placement of the CPU socket is probably a little higher than usual. I bought a larger than usual cooler (Noctua D-15). This caused some issues when trying to install in a case that left little headroom for my hands to fit in and install cables for fans/cpu power.

Apart from that, installing everything was simple and a breeze. The inclusion of a fixed IO brick(?)/panel made seating the board simple and plugging in easy. The board actually came with a newer version of the BIOS preinstalled that made it compatible with Ryzen 5XXX series CPUs which saved me a big hassle in installing new BIOS.

However it should be mentioned MSI offers a BIOS installation method that allows you to upgrade without a CPU! Which is quite handy. Initially I was upset because the board has RGB and it was something I wanted to avoid.

The back side of the board has a series of lights I totally missed in all photos or vids. It can be turned off with MSI’s custom RGB software (of course) but it was a surprise I don’t remember being mentioned or shown anywhere when I purchased.

This is a great board. I had a lot of fun installing and setting everything up and I would attribute my problems with cabling and seating with the cooler more user error. For what I wanted out of it, WIFI and Bluetooth natively on the board and PCI-E 4.

0, it has been perfect. You can probably get some of the same for less from MSIs other projects, but for a semi future proof (at the moment) board its hard to beat.

chose this board because they had one open box in the store which brought the price down dramatically to the amount i was wanting to spend on a MoBo for a 5900X & a liquid cooled Sapphire Toxic 6900xt build.

didnt wanna go cheap on the mobo or crazy expensive i felt she fit the happy medium i was searching for but this open box saved my booty and gave me the extra cash needed for the 2TB crucial m. 2 ssd that i stuck in this bad boy.

All in all really great and quiet board aesthetically pleasing as well, clear cmos button on the back which i love for overclocking my components, insane amount of m. 2 ports and sata connections. i have never been a fan of MSI and this is my first MSI board ever i dont regret my decision especially for a open box with everything and i mean everythign! still included in the box (RARE) lol but! MSI has some of the worst software and rgb software to date basically bloatware in my eyes i deleted it all after exploring it.

fans can be adjusted in bios or with 3rd party software so none of its needed or helpful in my opinion maybe just changing the rgb on the board if your into all that rainbow stuff but another big selling point of the board is it has a RGB light switch on the bottom of the board which enables you to just turn off all the extra rgb instantly without no software needed (only the rgb on the board nothing else) which i have never encountered before.

the MoBo comes with a LOT of extras in the box as well and some actually cool and usable extras at that, some screwdriver key chains a 16Gb MSI thumb stick with all the drivers and recovery info on it that also can hang from a key chain and this extra dope little two headed brush for cleaning the dust off the electronics that when not being used slide into the frame of the brush.

i know i know lol but its the little things that get me lol. if you can get an open box or find it on sale the board is definitely worth it then.

It’s clear the board has all the bells and whistles a person would want or need but I was really impressed by the power phase design. Independent, powerful phases on a platform using high end components is something to appreciate.

But what does it mean? Exactly what I was hoping for. I am coming from the Asus X570 Dark Hero platform which I have been tuning on for quite some time. It’s held up faithfully during that time and has been a great board.

I was on the fence with testing either this board or the Asus Extreme X570S E-atx board and decided to choose this one first to give a try because of its lower cost. In both power and efficiency this design is nicely improved over my Dark Hero and while I would have liked to play with the Asus Extreme, I can confidently say that this is great performance for the cost.

Delivering clean power is the name of the game for these high-end motherboards with overclocking, and this is no slouch. I have been able to achieve greater ram stability with lower ram timing, lower SOC and lower Vdimm Voltages.

The lower temperatures came with that, and I certainly have no complaints. On top of this I have been able to achieve greater CPU stability including maintaining my manual overclock settings at lower voltages than the Dark Hero and, in turn, lower temperatures by a good margin.

My Benchmarking scores are all improved (both GPU and CPU) and more consistent. In-game frames have improved aswell in their consistency. I’m still fine tuning the system to see how efficient this platform can be and after about a week of tuning I have to say I’m impressed at how much overhead was made available.

I love MSI’s load-line calibration options and coupled with extended switching frequency option, the fine-tuning capability is really impressive! Great to see a quality build and quality components. Just handling the board screams high-end with the sheer weight of it.

I was impressed by how well-built the dark hero was compared to other offerings in the past, but this new Ace Max is something else. I currently hold a hardware record on Timespy with my set-up using only AIO’s (take that custom loops and ln2!) But it won’t take long to finalize tuning on this platform and I expect to push it even higher.

But it’s clear to me that any enthusiast can take advantage of the inherent efficient design of this board since Ryzen’s stock configuration holds core boost relative to temperature and stability. And a nice bonus is it looks good.

The MSI Dragon symbol is slick and looks good with quality and detail. I was thinking it might not look as good as the Dark Hero or the Asus Extreme E-atx board, but I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re on the fence with this board, take the plunge.

I think it’s worth it.

I’ve had a few different makes of motherboards over the last 9 years, ASRock, Gigabyte and Asus. Initially they set up was Intel based until I switched over to AMD with a Gigabyte Aorus Z570 Master. This was fine for approx.

18 months until one morning itg failed to boot up. Try as I might , check connects, remove and re-seat components, nothing. It was retuned under warranty and repaired. This got me thinking, did I want this motherboard now or should I build a new rig.

I decided on a new build. I wanted a motherboard that was an AM4, had support for more than 3 PCIe 4 x 4 M. 2 sockets , had plenty of fan headers, preferably 4 pin PWM. I also required Turbo USB 3. 2 Gen 2 , USB 3.

2 Gen 1. Preferably an integrated I/O back cover and definitely no small cooling fan on the actual motherboard in the lower right-hand corner. Some might say this would be a bit of a tall order. I did my research on the internet and came up with a couple of possibilities.

The Aorus X570S Master and the MSI MEG X570S ACE MAX. I had my doubts about going for an Aorus Master again the MSI MEG X570S ACE MAX offered everything that the Aorus X570S Master did, and then some.

e. g The M. 2 add-in PCIe 4 card namely the M. 2 Xpander-Z Gen 4S supporting an additional 2 M. 2 ssd. That’s a total of 6 M. 2 ssd at Gen 4 speeds. That did have an in-built fan, so I’m not sure if I’ll use it.

(I like my rigs to be ultra quiet). With regard to in-built audio on the motherboard, that was not an issue since I use an external DAC/Headphone amp, namely the iFi Zen DAC V2. So, the winner, the MSI MEG X570S ACE MAX, a superb motherboard, full of features, inputs and outputs, fan headers.

It has an excellent build quality including the back. MSI have not skimped on materials or traded off one or two features in order to keep costs down. The bios is easy enough to work around, I had no problems with it whatsoever.

When I purchased it, the bios did not require an update, it was fine straight out of the box. I’ve had the motherboard some 5 months now, I’m really pleased with it and have had no issues whatsoever with it.

Would I recommend this motherboard to anyone else, most definitely, without hesitation. It’s all you could wish for in a motherboard and then some, furthermore, it is very reasonably priced.

This Motherboard is an absolutely fantastic bit of kit. I’ve built a couple of systems using this board and it’s by far one of the most stable and reliable boards I’ve personally ever used. There were a couple of minor teething issues to begin with (as there usually are when any new platform releases), particularly with the onboard audio and LAN, but these soon got ironed out once the BIOS had time to ‘mature’.

From a technical standpoint the board is absolutely superb as it just oozes quality and comes packed full of awesome features. The Wi-Fi in particular is incredibly good (one of the most reliable I’ve used in fact), and it comes with a whopping 13 rear USB ports (a nice mix of USB 2.

0, 3. 2 Gen 1 and 2, and one Type C). The aesthetic of the board is also very good, one of Gigabyte’s nicer looking boards in my opinion. It’s a nice blend of matte black and gun metal which will suit most builds, and there’s even a teeny bit of RGB thrown into the mix if you’re into that.

The only negative point I can think of about this board is the fact that there’s no RGB Fusion option in the BIOS. It would be good to be able to control the RGB from the BIOS as opposed to Gigabyte’s RGB Fusion software, which can be a bit temperamental sometimes.

Overall, I would highly recommend grabbing one of these if your looking to put a stable and reliable system together that has most, if not all the bells and whistles you will need. A big shout out to Scan as well for their absolutely top notch service as always.

As you can see in the other reviews, the simplicity of this board is what makes this a great product. Easy to build on, plenty of headers, and aesthetically satisfying (minus the RGB). Since I like my PC flashy the RGB on this board is very miniscule.

If you’re looking for something bright this board is not for you. Now the BIOS is where I have to shed one star off this review. The settings where you adjust fan speed is designed for advanced PC users.

For casual users like myself this was a bit tricky. Other boards I dealt with makes this function a lot simpler, and easy to customize. In terms of overclocking, I can’t comment on that since that is something I do not do.

I would still highly recommend this board due to the price and as mentioned above the build simplicity,.

So I have not even got this motherboard working. I have a Ryzen 5600G processor, 32 gb of regulars 3200 g-skill ram, a msi 3070 ti and a MSI nvme drive. All of which is moot, because I can’t update the bios to F13 which includes the 5600G CPUs.

I can’t do a regular qflash in the bios because I can’t load the bios, I can’t use qflash plus because it seems to fail every time. I got this motherboard in a shuffle and I waited till I could afford a GPU and CPU and ram,.

Around Christmas it finally happened. But now the motherboard is basically dead to me. I have been told I need an older CPU to boot with so I can use the regular bios flash tools so my CPU will work.

I don’t have the money or access to old Ryzen CPUs, I’m just frustrated,. This should not be this difficult, and with supply shortages and long waits, shuffle bundle deals makes being able to return stuff nearly impossible.

I’m stuck with a board I basically can’t use. Tired of trying.

I got this as it was a more cost effective competitor to the Evga x570 dark, and I was not disappointed. The passive cooling keeps the chipset in the low to mid 50s under load, and the power delivery and excellent board design and layout has allowed me to boost my CPU (r7 5800x) to reach dynamic OC heights over 5ghz, as well as my Dominator 3600 up to 4000 EASILY at 14-14-14-32, (could go higher, just havent yet) with 1:1 fabric clock, in a stable configuration.

For daily driving I limit my cpu to its recommended high of 4. 85 and run my DIMMs at 3666, 1833 fclk, and this board naturally delivers perfectly with those easy settings. For overclockers, you cant go wrong.

Naturally you get the dependability of MSI and a 3 year no hassle warranty. Ive owned many boards over the years but its quality like this that keep me coming back to MSI. Especially at a very reasonable price point.

Another great point is the space for SIX m. 2 sticks on the board, all PCI 4. 0! It has the (somewhat) standard digital code readout that can be set to output CPU temp after post finishes, as well as the led post monitor.

Die Ausstattung ist üppig und die Verarbeitung ist top, bis auf das alberne RAM-Cover. Hier hatte sich Gigabyte wohl was in Richtung Ramsch fürs RAM oder sowas gedacht, denn im krassen Gegensatz zur restlichen Verarbeitung des Boards ist das fragile Teil aus billigem Plastik und die RGB-Beleuchtung sieht einfach nur bescheiden aus.

Blass, billig und bocklangweilig. Eine Aorus X360 AiO Wasserkühlung auf diesem Brett einzubauen und auf den Prozessor zu positionieren ist mit dem RAM-Cover ebenfalls ein Riesenschmerz im A. Aorus. Zudem ist das Brett hier unfassbar breit.

Es verdeckt prinzipiell immer die Kabelmanagement Slots für den 24Pin Mainboard-Poweranschluss in 3 von mir damit getesteten Cases und macht sämtliche Verkabelungsversuche zur frustrierenden Friemelei.

Ich habe versucht, es in ein Phanteks P500A einzubauen und den halben Tag über das Kabelmanagement geflucht. Dann in ein CoolerMaster TD500 Mesh gepackt und wieder nur geflucht. Am Ende habe ich es in ein Thermaltake Divider 370 Snow White verbaut und auch da geflucht, aber immerhin sieht es jetzt einigermaßen nach was aus.

Generell ist das Board einfach ein viel zu fetter Koloss und auch wenn Cases EATX Format supporten, wird man wohl trotzdem beim Kabelmanagement kreativ werden müssen. Und fluchen. Und friemeln. Aber größtenteils sehr viel fluchen.

Wenn ihr viel RGB verbauen wollt, werdet ihr euch wahrscheinlich ebenfalls über die Ports und Portkompatibilität ärgern und ggf. AdapterSplitterkabel benötigen. A propos RGB Das RGB auf diesem Brett strahlt selbst bei maximaler Helligkeit in etwa so hell, wie das schwarze Loch, das dieser Koloss in euren Geldbeutel hinterlassen hat.

Es ist die mit Abstand erbärmlichste RGB-Beleuchtung die ich gesehen habe! Setzt mal spaßeshalber einen LianLi INF 120mm als Lüfter für die Rückseite ein. Der strahlt selbst bei 25% Helligkeit im Vergleich noch so hell wie die Himmelspforte und euer 1000€ Mainboard geht gegen diesen 30€ Lüfter beleuchtungstechnisch total unter.

Selbst mit einem original-Aorus Lüfter ist es das gleiche Spiel. Die RGB Beleuchtung dieses 1000€ Boards kann wahrscheinlich selbst gegen ein Glühwürmchen einpacken! Mega-enttäuschend! Und dann die Software! Ohne Gigabytes RGB Fusion 2.

0 Software werdet ihr die Beleuchtung nicht nutzen könnendürfen. Ihr müsst sie zwingend installieren und sie ist der absolute Horror, denn sehr sehr oft werden selbst Aorus-Komponenten von der hauseigenen Software nicht erkannt und die RGB Beleuchtung, für die ihr nicht wenig Geld gelöhnt habt funktioniert dann plötzlich nicht, oder nur bedingt, sodass man dann wieder eine halbe Ewigkeit nach dem Problem suchen darf Spoiler Es ist RGB Fusion 2.

0, was mir dann immer wieder ein gefrustetes Wutlachen entlockt, das wohl sämtliche Nachbarn im Umkreis von 100 Metern verstört und unweigerlich nach Knoblauch und Kruzifixen greifen lässt, um den schallenden Dracula zu vertreiben, der sich ins Haus eingeschlichen haben muss.

Mit Abstand meine absolute Lieblingsfunktion dieses Boards. Die Farbeinstellungen selbst sind super-limitiert und die meisten angebotenen Farbfunktionen sind oftmals irgendwelche Varianten von Disko Disko Partizani oder Blitzlichtgewitter, die euch herausfinden lassen, ob ihr Epileptiker seid, oder nicht und somit auch alle ziemlich fürn Aorus.

So schön, wie auf den Bildern wird es niemals aussehen, alleine schon aufgrund der unterirdischen Helligkeit. Bei den angebotenen Einstellungen kann man schon froh sein, wenn man überhaupt EINE Farbe anpassen kann, geschweige denn Farbverläufe! Super enttäuschend.

Für weitere Lacher sorgt auch die Meldung von RGB Fusion Warten Sie mal beim Programmstart, was unweigerlich Erinnerungen an verkorkst übersetzte Speisekarten weckt. Den Release für die Grafikkarte zu erreichen ist mit einer Aorus 3090 Xtreme selbst Kinderhänden nur schwer möglich – mit meinen mächtigen männlichen Pranken kann ich da gleich einpacken.

Ich ploppe die Grafikkarte immer aus Verzweiflung mit nem Essstäbchen raus. Kein Witz! Das Teil ist so bescheiden konzipiert und so schwer zu erreichen dass man sich auch hier wieder nur ärgert. Hier hätte ich mir den auf manchen ASUS Z690er Boards verbauten Releaseknopf gewünscht.

Es hat aber auch gute Seiten. Zum Overclocken macht das Ding echt Spaß. Da kann man einiges anstellen und es supportet Spitzengeschwindigkeiten beim RAM. Bin gespannt, ob und wie Gigabyte das Board mit Raptor Lake unterstützt.

Wäre dieses Board ATX statt Sumoringer-ATX, hätte es einen Grafikkarten-Releaseknopf, ordentliche RGB-Beleuchtung und ein funktionierendes RGB-Programm, wäre es wohl eines der besten Boards aller Zeiten.

Aber das Leben ist halt kein Ponyhof, auch nicht fürs Aorus Z690 Xtreme. FazitTL;DR Das Mainboard ist schön und größtenteils echt wertig bis auf die alberne Badekappe fürs RAM, die technischen Daten sind super, aber der Rest ist leider voll für die Tonne und insbesondere der Einbau, das Kabelmanagement und RGB Fusion 2.

0 garantieren einem, je nach Case, nur Frust ohne Ende. Vielleicht ist es im hauseigenen Aorus C700 Gehäuse nicht so schlimm, aber in Normalo-Cases ist das Ding einfach super frustrierend zu verbauen.

Fand ich zumindest. Insbesondere in Punkto RGB habe ich für den hohen Preis mehr erwartet und bin sehr enttäuscht. Ich würde es ehrlich gesagt nicht noch einmal kaufen und werde wohl in Zukunft aufgrund von RBG Fusion einen großen Bogen um Gigabyteprodukte machen.

IšverstiShow in original languageDas Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master hat mich bei meiner Suche nach einem neuen Mainboard sowohl durch die Optik als auch durch die Anzahl der IO-Ports vor allem 10GBits Ethernet und diverse 4-Pin Lüfter-Pumpenanschlüsse überzeugt.

Im Vergleich zu anderen Boards mit dem Z690 Chipsatz erscheint es mir auch nicht zu teuer, auch wenn die Plattform generell nicht günstig ist. Optik Das Erscheinungsbild gefällt mir in der Realität noch besser als auf den Produktbildern.

Einfach ein komplett schwarzes Board mit zwei RGB-Zonen. Die vorhandenen Kühlkörper haben ein mattes finish. Die verstärkten PCIe- sowie Strom Ports waren mit ein Grund für meinen Kauf, auch optisch sowie haptisch machen sie einen soliden Eindruck.

Inbetriebnahme Hierbei läuft alles wie von anderen Mainboards gewohnt. Die Montage von CPU sowie CPU-Kühler ging reibungslos von Statten und Bedarf keines Blickes in das Handbuch. Ebenso der Einbau des RAMs Pluspunkt Auf der Platine sind die primären Slots angegeben.

Die Montage der M. 2-SSDs stellt ebenso kein Problem dar. BIOS Ich habe mir mit diesem Mainboard einen komplett neuen Rechner aufgebaut, daher stand nach dem Zusammenbau zuerst die Installation von Windows 11 auf dem Plan.

Geliefert wurde das Board mit der BIOS Version F5. Hiermit war es nicht möglich Windows 11 zu installieren, es erschien die Meldung, das System sei nicht dafür bereit. Leicht frustriert, dass es nicht Out-of-the-Box funktionierte habe ich mir die BIOS Version F6b heruntergeladen und per Q-Flash geupdatet.

Nach erfolgreichem Update konnte ich dann auch Windows 11 installieren, weitere Einstellungen mussten dazu nicht vorgenommen werden. Meine 7 Lüfter inkl. der Pumpe für die Wasserkühlung haben an den Ports des Mainboards auch direkt anstandslos funktioniert.

Ein externer Temperatursensor wird auch erkannt und die Lüfterkurven konnten im BIOS eingerichtet werden. Für den Punktabzug gibt es allerdings dann doch noch 2 Gründe 1. Ich wollte einen RAID-Verbund aus zwei Sata SSDs einrichten.

Ohne Handbuch habe ich keine passende Einstellung im BIOS finden können und selbst nach dem Blick ins Handbuch wird man nicht schlauer. Dort existiert lediglich ein Hinweis auf die Anleitung auf der Gigabyte Webseite.

Ein Link ist allerdings nicht angegeben. Hier muss man allerdings sehr genau hinschauen, denn im Handbuch ist ein QR-Code abgedruckt, der auf die Anleitung verweist mit der es auch funktionierte. Ohne die Anleitung ist man meiner Meinung nach aber auch als erfahrener Anwender aufgeschmissen.

Ich hatte in der Zwischenzeit eine Support-Anfrage bei Gigabyte auf Deutsch und Englisch gestellt. Eine Antwort kam nach nicht mal 24 Stunden, allerdings in sehr schlechtem Deutsch und hilfreich war sie auch nicht, im Wesentlichen nur eine Zusammenfassung meines Problems.

2. Der größere Kritikpunkt bezieht sich auf die Gigabyte Software unter Windows. Das Tool RGB-Fusion 2. 0 zum steuern der RGB Elemente auf dem Mainboard sowie an dem RGB Port läuft gut, auch wenn es nicht immer direkt mit Windows startet.

Für die Verwaltung des Boards bzw. Überwachung gibt es das Programm EasyTune. Laut Hersteller ist es auch mit Windows 11 kompatibel und es lässt sich auch installieren. Allerdings passiert nach dem Starten des Programmes nichts, wodurch es nicht nutzbar ist.

Hierbei hoffe ich aktuell noch auf Besserung.

Before I start venting (a lot) about this motherboard, I want to state for the record that I have been building high-end, watercooled, gaming PCs since 2003, I have two degrees in Computer Science–just to let you know that I know what I am doing.

I got lucky day at Micro Center and got this motherboard with Ryzen 5950x. Coming from Intel 9700k and Gigabyte Z390 Master (which has been my go to Motherboard because of its overkill VRMs). After reading positive reviews about the Dark Hero, I went with this motherboard.

The last Asus motherboard I got for a gaming build was in 2007, that one had to do an RMA while I was overseas (it was a nightmare that I still remember). I thought that Asus must have evolved since and they have better QA/QC for their motherboard.

I installed this motherboard with g skill trident z 3600 mem. CPU cooled by Aquacomputer cuplex Next + custom loop with massive radiator space. First thing I did is flashed Bios with latest version (3204), setup my raid, loaded mem settings.

Everything went smoothly and I made it to Windows. No overclock so far (PBO is on auto, which is disabled-don’t know, but in Asus language, Auto = disabled). Downloaded couple games, synthetic tests such as Cine bench, 3d Mark, AIDA64 etc.

and went through the normal stability tests. First thing started acting up is my USB devices, mouse and keyboard stutters, USB sound blaster disconnects. I started research online and found out that it’s a common issue, disabling C-State should take care of it.

It did, but not completely, it happened but less frequently. I was OK to live with it until next Asus/AGESA bios comes to solve it. I enabled PBO to see what I can get with Asus out of the box, all cores under load was at 4.

45, but boy the random restarts, the computer became a Christmas tree. I disabled PBO (which is outrageous especially after spending $$$) just so I can have my zoom meetings. Third issue was DX crashes (this happens randomly even with optimized defaults, no PBO, no mem profiles).

It would happen a lot until disconnect PSU and let all power discharge, then it will be OK for a little while. I then started the troubleshooting journey, tried ever single BIOS version since its release, each for at least two days.

All three issues happened but each bios would make one worse and other better. I tried every single setting on the BIOS to gain a bit of stability but nothing helped. I then called Asus, which BTW I haven’t called Tech Support for hardware since I had the Asus Striker Extreme motherboard back in 2007.

I was hoping that I’d get connected to someone who’s knowledgeable like EVGA team, but of course I got someone who was going through a checklist (is the power cable connected, is the Power Supply working), after 30 minutes, he said that I would need to send for repair it will take 4-8 weeks for the repair to be completed and they will send it back to me, I asked for advanced RMA (where you pay for one and they’ll refund you when you send defective), the only advanced RMA they have is they send you a Board which you have to return when you get yours after repair (with hard tubing watercooling build that takes hours to reinstall, no thank you).

After three weeks of complete pain, I decided to go Gigabyte X570 Master (look it up, most overclockers, including gamers nexus, use). I finally got one through Amazon which arrived today. NO issues whatsoever.

few hours in, PBO with curve optimizer (- 25 on all cores +75 boost) rock stable so far with cores ranging from 4. 75 – 5. 150 (yes, not a typo) under load. No USB issues, no DX crashes or random restarts.

Asus is the typical company that spends a ton of effort and money in marketing and paying reviewers to overhype their products, as they should don’t get me wrong. I just wish they spend comparable amount of resources on customer support and QC/QA.

You may think I am just unlucky, and to an extent, bad luck may have a role in this terrible experience. I have tried many motherboards including Gigabyte, As-Rock, EVGA, MSI and I have had some issues, but nothing I couldn’t solve.

I will stay away from Asus, and yo.

First things first. I havent built a computer since 1999, so Im basically new to this and out of touch with the latest and greatest tech. So take my opinions for what they are worth. I think its a great board.

It would have been been nice if it came with the TPM-M R2. 0 module pre-installed, but I understand why it doesnt. Had issues installing Windows 11 because it tried to access the TPM that wasnt there.

So I had to use Rufus software to make a bootable USB without that security feature. Maybe thats common knowledge, but I had to figure it out the hard way. My only other issue was the antenna for the WiFI 6 has two threaded connectors that go on the back panel, and it appears one of those connectors either are not threaded, or threaded incorrectly and will not screw in.

Anyway, I would recommend this board.

Excellent fit and finish all around. typical of ROG expectations. Well protected in packaging. Well laid out manual for installation but would have appreciated more documentation on BIOS in manual. Good news is ASUS just has one of the most intuitive BIOS menu schemes around, and it was easy to figure things out and get everything up and running on first boot, including the DOCP settings for the 3600 MHz memory I went with.

Pay attention to the QVL, which is available on the ASUS website, and you shouldn’t have any issues. Solid platform for PBO controlled OC using AMD Ryzen Master utility. Great looking board without too much RGB gaudiness.

Great onboard sound as well. Game or create!.

This is the second time I’ve done a build with a version of this Motherboard, I just built a water cooled Gaming PC for a client who wanted a Ryzen 9 5900x and an RTX 3080, and had a £2500 budget, so I used the AMD version of this motherboard.

Then Last month (March 2022) I built a gaming PC for a streamer that could run Elden Ring, and because was streaming the build put a price limit of £500. So I used this Motherboard again and paired it with an intel i5 10400k.

It’s a sold motherboard with space for 2 M. 2 drives and a USB-C front panel header, which is always something to look out for when building a streaming PC if you want a multi camera setup as most decent webcams run USB-C these days.

This motherboard really falls right in the sweet spot between price and quality, it’s reasonably cheap at £100-£120 depending on whether you get the wifi version. I got the wifi version because the last build I did for myself I thought “well it’s connected using ethernet so I don’t need wifi” forgetting of course that this meant I now had no bluetooth either.

I love this motherboard it’s easy to use and it looks bad ass, the RGBs are subtle enough that you can almost forget about them. I would absolutely recommend this motherboard to anyone who’s got their build chosen and has a £100-£120 budget for the motherboard.

I purchased this board as part of a mid range gaming machine for a former classmate’s son back in January 2021. Because of the ridiculous gpu debacle going on, the video card I ordered of course was not in stock when I went to actually pay for the package back in mid January.

Shame on you newegg for not improving your software or notification techniques to accurately show stock you can actually buy. I am sure many, many people agree with me on this. So after finally having to purchase a prebuilt machine just to get a dang video card at what today would be called a decent price (after I sell of the remaining box to help offset the cost), I get the new card installed and boot the machine.

All is working great, Windows is loaded, drivers are loaded, and was downloading Windows updates when it froze. Just randomly locked up. Parts inside were very cool, no pops, no magic smoke anywhere, no error messages.

Only a hard shutdown brought it back. And then it started freezing every time, but at random points. Finally it was freezing before I even got to the welcome screen. Then finally just would not boot at all, not even turn on the monitor.

At first i though maybe the video card I got was borked so I swapped my video card in: nope, nothing, nada. Installed the new gpu in my machine and viola! works just fine. So video card is not the problem.

Tried the other pcie slot too, nothing. Took so long to finally get the machine started because I couldn’t get a video card that now the mobo is out of Newegg warranty and now I have to deal with MSI directly.

I have been a long time user of Newegg’s services but I feel they have neglected to deal with this gpu farce for their customers in a more customer friendly way. This very disappointing as my customer paid a good chunk of cash for this machine, her son has been patiently waiting, but because of human greed and disdain for doing the right thing LOTS of people are probably in my same position: can’t finish a build due to epically out of proportion video card prices and then when the time comes and a part has failed, there isn’t a decent return policy in place because it took to long to find out a part was bad.

Very disappointed. Now lets see what kind of run around I get with MSI. Hopefully I can get a replacement in a reasonable amount of time.

Utilized this motherboard with my build that I put together earlier this year and of the complaints that I have they are minor and partially a factor of the case that I’m using. The one flaw that gave me the most fits was the USB 3.

0 header which is on the right most portion of the board which unfortunately lined up right against a shroud for cable management in my Corsair case. Basically I ended up having to disassemble the case and attach the 3.

0 USB before remounting it. Again though, that’s specific to my case and MSI can only do so much to prevent that. Wifi performance is good with this motherboard and the BIOS is pretty easy to use. XMP can be easily enabled via a button press on the main screen of the BIOS or by digging in deeper.

BIOS offers an ‘easy’ mode and a more indepth mode, something I’m a big proponent of as some minor modifications can really help out your system performance and can definitely be intimidating for someone new to working with computers.

This offers a good amount of header options for things such as LED’s and fans. Pretty good value.

This is the first Asus motherboard that I’ve purchased – and I have used many over the last 10 years – that I would NOT recommend for a system upgrade. This is NOT my first “upgrade rodeo,” either. I have 4 different machines that are at various stages of “obsolescence” – since just about every component is obsolete the moment it’s purchased.

If you are building a brand-new system, the experience might be different. I can’t say, as I have not built a new (as in, all components new and new OS installation) system since Windows 10 launched.

I fully admit that I installed my main micro backwards on the motherboard, and that led to a return to Asus for diagnosis. Buried deep on their website is a troubleshooting guide that would have prevented that return.

It is sad that 2 contacts with their online chat never got to the level of “are the pins on your microprocessor bent?” – the issue that was preventing the board from starting up. If that was the only issue, then I’d give the motherboard more “eggs.

” Issues have not stopped there. I spent two hours trying to figure out why my M. 2 2TB SDD drive was not recognized. I followed Asus’ online documentation with ZERO success. In frustration, I moved the SSD to the second M.

2 slot where no PCIE card is installed, and it worked. Clearly, you CANNOT install a PCIE card AND an M. 2 device at the same location. I spent several hours trying to figure out why I was getting a constant barrage of “read” errors off my older Maxtor 6V200E0 200GB SATA drive.

The drive worked perfectly with the Asus A88XM motherboard that the Crosshair VIII replaced. This Maxtor drive _does_not_ work with the Crosshair motherboard, and it’s _the_motherboard_ that does not like the drive.

The drive works perfectly with another Asus motherboard (in the computer I’m using to write this review). The Crosshair VIII is not terribly stable with Windows 10, _especially_ with old versions. I had a Windows 10 crash after installing the AMD chipset support drivers.

That crash locked the Windows 10 partition. My computer is a dual-boot Windows 10/Linux machine, and a locked partition means trouble. I could not get Windows to repair the drive, I could not get Linux to recognize the Windows 10 partition as bootable, and finally, I decided to re-format the drive as I’d already spent 2 hours trying to find fixes for the issues.

After reformatting the drive, Fedora 36 (current version of the OS) installed quickly, and the motehrboard runs rock-solid with Fedora 36. I had the system running for 3 hours. Unfortunately, Windows 10 has not been so kind.

I cannot install the newer versions of Windows 10 _at_all_ – when installing from a USB stick, the Windows installer complains about a missing driver that I cannot find (yet the USB stick worked without issue on a Toshiba laptop when I installed an SSD several months ago).

I can only use an early Windows 10 DVD. The early version of Windows 10 installs, but Windows crashes seconds to minutes after starting the machine up while trying to pull updates from Windows Update.

(In fact, while writing this review on my other Asus-based machine, the Crosshair system locked up for the 6th time _this_morning_ while trying to install Windows updates) Based on past experiences, I did not expect this level of headaches.

Past motherboard upgrades have typically only required changing out drivers for the motherboard chipset. But a system crash after installing drivers? Re-installing an OS? Fugeddaboutit!.

As many other reviewers have noted, this is board is a solid, nearly top of the line product. It is the best board I’ve used to build a system. So why only four eggs? The power supply you need for this board will need two CPU 8×8 cables and two places to plug those cables into your PSU.

The QVL for this board seems not to know this. It recommends, for example, a Corsair RM 650x, a perfectly fine PSU, which doesn’t work for this main board. It has one 8-pin power connector (along with the 24 pin course).

The bios. even after being flashed with the newest version, complains on bootup, that “The system has only detected a single 4-pin connector connected for the CPU. “It is recommended to connect both the 8-pin and the 4-pin power plugs or dual 8-pin plugs for a system stability and to prevent the motherboard from overheating under heavy usage.

” Until both 8-pin and 4-pin connectors are installed, the bios will complain on each bootup. The rest of my system would not require much power: a Ryzen 5 3600X CPU and a GTX 1660 GPU, but the bios complained (and complained) nonetheless.

The Rog Crosshair VIII Hero manual gives no hint of this, saying “DO NOT connect the 4-pin power plug only, the motherboard may overheat under heavy usage. ” And “Ensure to connect the 8-pin power plug, or connect both the 8-pin and 4-pin power plugs.

” It also recommends, “For a fully configured system, we recommend that you use a power supply unit that complies with ATX 12 Specification 2. 0 (or later version) and provides a minimum power of 350 W.

” It goes on to make recommendations for heavy usage. I read this as saying that, besides the main 24 pin power connection, a single 8-pin connector would be sufficient for my modest build. The QVL which lists the Corsair power supply I purchased to drive my build would seem to agree.

The Corsair RM 650x, however, has only one outlet and one cable for an 8-pin connection. This main board requires two of these CPU power connectors (or one 8-pin and one 4-pin since half of the second 8-pin is not used).

I was able to find an older but more powerful PSU that allowed my build to work correctly. Its two 8-pin cables made the bios’ bootup complaint disappear. But I have a perfectly good, but apparently nonreturnable Corsair PSU which is useless to me.

So, this is a great board, but be careful choosing your power supply.

Has many good features and easy to assemble. Lots of options for setting up your gaming system. Just don’t choose this one if you’re after on-board RAID support. Took me 4 BIOS updates to even get the drives to stay in the array and still having issues with adding a new drive – RAID or non RAID.

If you’re after on-board RAID then def better to look at an Intel based board. Latest BIOS update has support now for TMP so board is compatible with Win 11. But also has many other new options that are poorly documented and seems a mission to find anything like a changelog or explanation of what half the new options mean or how to configure them.

I matched this board with a Coolmaster dual fan CPU cooler tower that tends to block the first RAM slot so can be tricky to use all 4. Works fine with just 2 modules. Spacing for other components tends to be pretty standard if not generous.

I used this product in building my youngest son a gaming computer for Christmas. I initially had trouble getting things running, but ended up flashing the BIOS which solved the problem that I was having.

This board has the ability to flash the BIOS without having the machine running which is a really nice option to have when building computers. I’ve been working with computers since the late 80s and technology like this has come a long way since then.

One thing that is nice to know that I had to stop and research is that flashing the BIOS with the button on the back of the motherboard needs to be completed with the power on, but the computer off. The flash drive with the BIOS on it will need inserted first, and then the button pushed in for about 10 seconds until the light starts flashing and will end when the light stops flashing.

I first purchased the MSI MAG B550M Mortar Wi-Fi board for my build but the USB 3. 2 header interfered with the case I purchased, so I swapped to this board. I was looking at getting the m-ATX board but it lacked an M.

2 SDD heatsink on the upper slot so for the cost of a heatsink I upgraded to this one. The MSI board felt like a better built board with the DRM heatsink being larger and covering all the rear I/O ports, making them not visible through the case window.

The rear shield on the MSI board was also integrated onto the board where the ASUS one isn’t. These aren’t really big deals, especially at this price point, but they are the differences in the boards.

As far as I know the ASUS board should overclock better and the ASUS software is definitely more user friendly in this regard. The ASUS Armoury Crate software used to monitor the hardware and RGB functions also operates more smoothly than the MSI Dragon Center.

As a side, PCCG has been awesome to deal with. They shipped quickly and I ended up with a working PC within a week. The return of the MSI board was also well handled, with my only gripe being that they currently don’t have a landline to talk to support staff.

All in all, I am a very happy customer.

Have been using this a couple weeks, no complaints. On initial install, the alignment was off on the back panel which resulted in the BIOS flashback button being permanently pressed! Did not make for a happy system.

I will probably have to use a drill to open up more space for the flashback button. Initially had some trouble with 1 dimm slot not working – turned out I had 2 pins bent over on the processor! Not sure how this happened, as I was very careful on initial install.

PSA, double check processor pins for anything out of order before installing. Those 3rd gen Ryzen pins are very thin! Would also appreciate a BIOS update on asus. com for this board that’s not marked as beta – the last non-beta release goes back ~5 months, with a 5800x I’m afraid to run something that old.

EIgentlich bin ich der Marke MSI sehr zugewandt und sie waren für mich immer die Go-TO marke wenn man mal wieder für einen Bekannten oder sich selbst einen Rechner bauen wollte. Davon spürt man leider nichts mehr, Rechner hängt sich im Betrieb auf, Startet teils gar nicht erst mit Glück nach CMOS Clear und läuft sehr unstabil insgesamt.

Klassischer weise würde ich bei diesem Bild denken, das ein Board defekt vorliegt Montags Produkt oder vllt. eine zu alte BIOSUEFI Version. Da ich das Board wie gesagt zwei mal Gekauft habe. kann ich sagen, es ist kein Board Defekt ! Beide Boards haben die Gleiche Symptomatik !! Nach einem Update auf die neuste BIOSUEFI Version wurde es nicht besser.

es wurde schlimmer ! Als Server Board ich weiß es ist nie dafür Konzipiert worden zusätzlich nicht zu gebrauchen da PCI-E Passtrough mit diesem Board nicht funktioniert ! Ebenfalls für jegliche LinuxGNU Installation schwer zu gebrauchen da der Realtek Chipsatz nicht Standard Mäßig von Debian erkannt wird ! Mit UbuntuPopOS geht es aber.

Ist für mich aber ein Neutraler Punkt, da man dies bei Board kauf nachvollziehen kann. Ich weiß nicht ob es ein Ausrutscher von MSI war oder ich wirklich zwei Montags Produkte bekommen habe, aber nach einem Tausch beider Boards durch ein GÜNSTIGERES Konkurrenz Produkt sind alle meine Probleme gelöst und alles läuft extrem Stabil.

Das Boards hat keine RGB Beleuchtung, dies war aber für meine Zwecke nicht ausschlaggebend. Einbau Mainboard konnte ohne Probleme eingebaut werden, nur ein kurzer Blick ins Handbuch reichte. Alles ist bebildert und selbsterklärend.

Die im 90-Winkel SATA Ports vom Mainboard, sind optimal. Hier kann man alle Kabel dem Kabelmanagement anpassen. Gleich 2 M. 2-Slots waren für mich nur einer der Kaufkriterien. Dank PCIe 4. 0 nutzen auch SSD ihre optimale Geschwindigkeit.

Auch nicht Standard ist der bereits vormontierten Kühler für SSD. Es sind ausreichend USB Ports vorhanden. BIOS Das bewährte MSI Click BIOS 5 kommt zum Einsatz. Mit einer einfachen und einer Advanced Ansicht für noch mehr Einstellungsmöglichkeiten.

BIOS Updates mittels USB Stick sind auch möglich. Alles in allem bin ich mit der Leistung, Ausstattung und Verarbeitung sehr zufrieden. Ich empfehle dieses Board jedem für ein Ryzen-System.

Ich hoffe ich bekomme schnell ein Ersatzmainboard geliefert. Ich werde es heute per Post zurückschicken sobald ich ein Reklamation-Ausdruck habe für die Retoure. Tatsächlich auch mein erstes MSI Mainboard, vorher hatte ich nur Asrock oder Gigabyte Mainsboards und damit lief es bisher reibungslos.

Maybe some day these boards will come with a new enough bios to support Ryzen 5K CPUs from the start. But that was not the case with the one I got. To fix it I had to find out about the Bios Flashback button on the side panel.

A feature which had minimal mention in the included manual and I was not informed of by the ASUS tech support employees I spoke to online. Luckily I saw the another review on this page that mentioned it and a few google searches later I learned enough to use it.

But that was after several days of frustration where I couldn’t play with the theoretically powerful new computer I had spent a lot of time and money on. So everything is working now and the board and bios interface seem fine.

But I have to dock the board at least one star if not more for that awful first impression. Sure, the feature was there to use. But if it’s not documented or known about by tech support, that’s a problem.

Overall, an average B550 mainboard with a decent amount of features. At this price point, I’d have expected the BIOS to be better, it took me a little while to set up the RAM correctly, it gave me a few failed boots at first as of this, and especially configuration of fan curves is a bit of a nightmare – If you are planning on building a silent PC, maybe check other mainboard manufacturers and save yourself a headache.

The software suite (AI Suite) is not great, especially Fan Xpert4 is very buggy. Even when setting fan spin up / spin down time to maximum, the fans would still change RPM constantly and very quickly (and therefore audibly), so it took me a few hours of adjusting to get the PC completely silent during office tasks.

It would not even detect all case fans at first, it took several attempts until I could even control them in the software, and the sole reason I installed the software to begin with was the lacking fan control features in the BIOS.

If you are not as obsessed with having a silent PC as I am, it might be a great pick, but I can’t give it more than 3 stars simply due to BIOS & software issues.
