24 Best Modem And Router For Gigabit Internet (2023 Updated)

I was overwhelmed by price of other wifi router after having a hardwire with Comcast business internet service. Appearantly Comcast business only supports/compatible with f a few cable modems with no router function.

Yes only modem itself if you chose to use third part cable modem/router instead there rental modem/router. So I had to buy only modem that compatible with Comcast business internet then bought separate router.

What a waste of time, function and energy for what. It would cost me way more then what it could be if I did not find this router. Really good price with things I needed. Just simple wireless router goes with the JUST CABLE MODEM cus unreasonable reasons from comcast.

The hardware is unreliable. I’ve had two of these systems. Neither satellite worked on the first one. They replaced it. Only one satellite works on the new one. Even on that one the ethernet connection port doesn’t work.

The main router is the only piece of hardware that seems to function correctly, but I already had one of those like most people buying this will. The software is even worse. First there is the irritation of having to set up an account and create a username and password just to turn on your expensive new system.

You also have to agree to a 30-day trial of some security crapware, just to use your hardware. Once the app is installed you will get the full extent of its uselessness. It will tell you it “can’t connect to the router” even when you are on the router’s network and able to go online through it.

It will tell you random things about the satellites status that have no connection to their actual status. And from time to time it will lock you out until you re-enter your username and password, or agree to the privacy policy, or click through offers to buy the crapware once it’s trial is ended.

Do yourself a favour and buy something better than this.

IšverstiShow in original languageI will keep it short, because the problem is rather narrowly defined (at least in my case). For basic everyday people, who know nothing about networking, the R8000 Nighthawk router may seem to work well.

However, there are a lot of people like myself, who are neither expert or beginner, that do like to customize the router through the user interface. The problem with the firmware/software that I am referring to is the ability to re-name your connected devices through the “attached devices” tab.

The instructions at the bottom of the attached devices page tell you to highlight the device and click edit. THERE IS NO EDIT BUTTON and you can’t highlight the devices. I did a lot of research online and it turns out that this has been a problem for years, not just with the R8000 router, but with all their routers.

The word on the street (in forums) is that Netgear is fully aware of this problem and will not/can not fix it. I then read on a Netgear forum that you can use the Netgear Nighthawk App on your mobile device to rename devices.

I tried that and it failed too. Quite frankly, the app seems to be rather basic and has limited functionality. Several years ago, I had a Netgear N900 router, and I do remember being able to change the device names, so it did work back then.

I am also reading that if you go backwards many firmware revisions, that you can get the device renaming to work. I am not doing that. I have about 30 connected devices and not being able to re-name them makes it impossible to see what is running on my network and is a security issue, because I can’t determine if I have intruders.

I also run a Netgear R6700 V3 on the same network as an Access Point. I am not able to re-name the devices listed on its attached device tab either. Netgear, why is this issue never fixed?? I am not a software engineer, but one would think that the people who make the device should be able to correct the issue.

I would love to hear from someone on this.

I started getting some Internet speed fluctuations. The internet company said it was most likely the router and said to update the firmware. I updated the firmware and seems to be functioning better now.

So my recommendation is get the nighthawk app and make sure up update the firmware. I don’t rate like a normal person is why it gets 4 stars. A 5 star router we mean I’ve never had a problem with it and the strength is superb where anywhere in my yard I had a signal.

That’s not this. 3 stars would be this is an average router that produced results equivalent to what an average router would. This is a 4 star router which means it produces better than the run of the mill router, but if you are looking for the best or something top notch, this one probably isn’t it.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought this router for the family since there were multiple devices that were going to connect. The three channels seemed to be the best option. For a while it has performed as intended.

Three console gaming systems, five cell phones, two smart tv’s, five Alexa’s, plus my kids friends, no lag no issues, except. Netgear and Android do not like each other. There are many instances in chatroom and forums where this is proven, and it is.

I have had to reset the internet from my modem, which is also a Netgear Nighthawk product, do to not being able to access the internet or really slow speed. About once a month if not more. Fast forward a month, I have moved to a new state with a new ISP.

Two of the three SSID’s disappeared, later to find they were renamed, all three SSID’s now have the same name. Odd, but ok, did a complete erase of all SSID’s and re started the router from scratch, renamed the SSID’s again.

Conducted a WIFI analyzer around the apartment, good signal strength all three channels. Perfect, until a week later. One of two SSID’s are gone, but the router, since I logged into it, says no issues, and broadcasting the SSID’s.

I believe the issue is from a stale IP address so I am going to try to see if fixing that clears the issue. I have just never had any issue with Netgear products until I bought into the Nighthawk line of products.

So be advised, you might have to do more work with this line than you may or may not want to,.

The Nighthawk R6900v2 that I bought a few days ago is quite an upgrade from the ancient ASUS RT-N16, meaning that it’s much faster and had far greater range. I finally have full Wi-Fi coverage throughout my house, as well as my yard.

The only con I have is that in order to opt-out of Netgear’s data aggregation, one must send them an email, rather than simply including an opt-out button within the router’s settings. That is really the only gripe I have with my Nighthawk router.

Well, that plus setting it up the first time revealed some major glitches (not accepting my password after upgrading the firmware via their app – I had to reset the router back to factory defaults) but I got it all sorted out.

eventually. Once the headache of setting up the router has been completed, it is a competent piece of equipment. Even though both the Nighthawk and old ASUS RT-N16 have gigabit LAN ports, I have found that using the Internet is noticeably faster with the Nighthawk; it’s not my imagination either.

🙂 Would I recommend the Nighthawk R6900v2 router in spite of its setup warts? Indeed I would!.

Was a little dubious about getting this, but some of the other reviews convinced me to give it a go, and I’m glad I did. Had tried range extenders in different rooms but it never made much difference.

Easy to set up – download the app on your phone, it walks you through it step by step. Note – there is an option that comes up during the setup – enable IPTV/VLAN – if you have fibre then you must enable this, and then there is a drop down menu from which you can select ‘New Zealand – UFB’ – select this and you will be good to go.

Then just place the other two units where you need them in your house, and the system will automatically find them, connect them and get them up and running. We’ve been able to move the Playstation back to a bedroom instead of having it in the living room on ethernet cable, and have had multiple users on games, streaming services etc at the same time with no lag or buffering.

If this is what you want for your house and you need something that is a breeze to set up (no network skills at all needed) then I fully recommend this product.

I installed 2 Deco X20 units in my house, each in a separate floor. Units are operating as Access Points, directly conncted to a TP Link Archer A9 router (Wifi is disabled) as well as using wired backhaul, so overall connection speed is no issue.

Alas, although having relativly strong 5Ghz WiFi signal in most rooms, devices tend to stick with the slower 2. 4Ghz WiFi band. The Deco App have no option to set signal treshold to decide when to move a device from one band to another, resulting with a way lower WiFi speed.

Occasionally i am able to switch from 2. 4Ghz if i restart devices WiFi (android phone) several times when very near one of the units. This is somewhat disapointing as it is a degragation compared to previously using a non-mesh Wifi solution.

I get great 270mbps WiFi speeds which is now consistent throughout my entire home and is always connected no matter where I move. Lan speeds have greatly improved my and now a solid 900-970mbps where before was under 800mbps.

Even get a decent signal in front and rear gardens. The TP-Link app is also very useful and much better then other top brands I’ve used I can monitor who’s actively connected to my home network and get notifications away from home if something new has been added.

I like that you can monitor Wired/WiFi ports and show up/down speeds for each device. Can rename the devices too. The only negative thing I can think off is that you can’t change the WiFi channels or set it’s speed but this maybe device dependent or future update may fix this.

I bought this the 1st week of April and was excited with my purchase, I replaced a Linksys 32x gaming router with this one, and I assumed that it was an upgrade boy I was wrong. The Net Duma software is glitchy, fails to functions, and struggles to do the advertised functions.

I figured I needed a firmware update and I believe it did a total of 3 but no improvement. I had the router reset itself to factory settings multiple times just for hitting the reboot option, devices lose connectivity and not connect for up to 24 hours later.

All my cameras became unresponsive to view and ironically lags in matches. I hit up customer service via web and they wanted to do the basic troubleshooting usually done with people clueless with tech.

Left me hanging for a few days while they “sent it over” to another department to resolve. Yea no pretty easy to jump in my car and buy a competitor. I’m sorry but check the Netduma forum and look at all the issues and people claiming its an expensive brick.

Its pretty basic netgear sell a product that you plug in and works. I bought a Linksys comparable in value and guess what it works flawlessly. Defective Radio?May be doesn’t make up for the glitchy software.

IšverstiShow in original languageBeing a gamer in a household that always has multiple streaming services running the addition of this router from a high end router that was nearing 5 years old was astronomical.

There are a multitude of positives to say in regard to this new router by Netgear with just one initial negative. Firstly, right out of the box this router is very sleek and stylish. Yes, it may not be the most inconspicuous, but having the fins cover the antennas is much more visually appealing than having a bunch of antennas sticking out of a box.

Getting right into the setup though was by far the most difficult part as being someone that likes to think they are very tech savvy this was much more difficult than it needed to be. Downloading the app for setup is common and I did not having any qualms there, but in order to go this route the app needs to work fluidly.

This was where the issue arose as the app was not functioning as it should which resulted in a call to Netgear`s support line, which after a lenghty hold time someone was able to assist me with this issue and we were able to get the “bug” reported on the app and move forward with setup.

Once up and running the interface on the app is very user friendly and if I hadn`t have ran into a “bug” it seems as though it would have been a fairly seamless process to get everything setup. Once working though I elected to keep my same Wi-Fi name and password to ensure that all my connected devices simply moved over to the new network/router which couldn`t have made the change any easier.

Moving onto the actual useability in regard to the speed and the coverage of the router Netgear was able to provide everything I could have asked for. I have a 1 gig speed plan to which this was able to keep up with that and that is even overkill in my opinion so for the average household I don`t think you`re gonna be able to throw an internet plan at this thing that it can`t max out.

Additionally the range is phenomenal as the 2,500 sq feet is exactly as advertised. Previously I had to use a range extender to strengthen the connection in my basement, but with the addition of this router that is no longer needed.

The new 6 Ghz band was definitely fun to play with as it is extremely fast, but as expected the range is not very far so as long as you don`t venture too far from the router you can definitely benefit from this new major feature that helps sell this router in my opinion.

The other two minor items I wanted to touch on are the parental controls and Netgear Armor as these are both nice features that I utilized with the 30 day trial, but for the additional subscription fee I couldn`t quite bring myself to pull the trigger though for some it may be worth the added cost.

The free parental features allow you to assign devices to different profiles and stop internet access to specific devices, but the paid version allows you to set access schedules, set time limits, along with some other parental oversight features.

Then the Netgear Armor is essentially an antivirus software, but for your entire network so again for some you may find this valuable, but for myself I elected to not renew my subscription. Overall, after my initial struggle getting this router setup I have been extremely impressed with it`s performance and usability.

If you are looking for that router that will allow you to run multiple streaming services or gaming devices at the same time while being able to maintain coverage over your entire house then I would not hesitate to recommend this product!.

Having had some time to try out the Netgear Nighthawk Axe7800 I am prepared to admit there is a real benefit to a good router with good features…so I’ll be packing this router back up and rolling back to my old router.

In the box you get the Nighthawk router, an Ethernet cable, and the power cord/AC Adapter plus the usual setup guide (which is only to tell you to download the app to setup and diagram your router ports).

Setup was simple, in fact it was way easier than I expected/dreaded! Per the app instructions I took down my old router, plugged in the new one, let it run a process while showing me tips on features of my new router, and then it recommended I can keep my existing network name to avoid having everything sign-in on the new router.

I was skeptical about the ease of setup but darn it so far nothing hasn’t logged back in automatically! The router features four LAN ports, a 1G internet/LAN port, a multi-gig internet/LAN port, WPS button on the front, and a USB 3.

0 port to connect a network drive. So mostly what you’d expect but with that multi-gig port to allow for future proofing your router and a USB 3. 0 port instead of the standard Mini-USB which used to be standard.

The size is moderate without being large, instead of having an array of antennae to move around to get a signal this one has two wings that stick up approximately 105 degrees (90 degrees but out away from the router body).

Once it’s set up you get to access all the features of the router via the Nighthawk app: Device Manager, Security, built in Speed Test, Parental Controls, WiFi Analytics, WiFi Settings, Guest WiFi Network on/off, and a Traffic Meter.

As a parent who has battled with apps and programs that supposedly allow for time limits and curfews the Parental Controls was my first stop…and really 75% of my review score. Looking at the manufacturer website they talk about the Parental Smart Controls and all the options to keep kids safe and productive but they don’t talk about the annual fee.

Yes, you have built in controls to turn the network off for certain profiles (say putting kids devices as a group and adult or appliance devices on a seperate always on group) but those smart controls advertised are an extra monthly or annual fee.

Netgear Armor, the security options on the router? Another monthly or annual fee and it’s even higher than the parental controls! By default the Security menu only gives you a score of how safe your network is and a few ideas about making sure your password has a minimum length and special characters.

What is free with your generous purchase of this router? Well the Guest Network is nice so you can set a simple password for when company is over and otherwise turn it off, it’s on other products but feels simpler and more binary here via the app.

Speed test and WiFi Analytics are cool for times when you’re checking if you’re being throttled or just have more traffic on the network (I never felt like the network was overloaded like I have with my old router, so another point for Netgear).

The Analytics even lets you get base readings from each room and compare them so you can see where the internet is having a hard time reaching and where its best (ironically my back bedroom was better than the living room near the router!).

Maybe I’m asking too much but the amount this router costs should cover parental controls at least, if not the network security advertised on the box. We have enough monthly fees with streaming services, video game subscriptions, cell phones, internet providers, satellite radio, online shopping clubs, etc.

For a premium product this feels cheap and scammy! That’s not to say that as a device to connect your home to the single internet modem it fails at its job, far be it. I think as an internet networking device it was easy to set up, the app is simple and easy to understand (although I’m tired of all the apps I have for each appliance I buy, this one is worth keeping), and its providing a better signal than the router I got years ago.

It comes down to what your internet is worth and if you’re OK with bells and whistles listed on the package being an extra charge once you get it hooked up out of the box. For me, that is bad business and I’m marking it down for that.

If you just want internet everywhere in your home with no hassle then I highly recommend it.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe Netgear Nighthawk RAXE300 router featuring WiFi 6E looks like a Star Wars spaceship. The fins are 6 preoptimized antennas for the 2. 4, 5 and 6 GHz bands. At this point the 6GHz band has less traffic but like all of the higher bands – the higher the band the shorter the wavelength so shorter range and the possibility of it being blocked by household objects.

The unit comes with multi-Gig wired connections with a1Gps and a 2. 5G Ethernet port or 2Gps link aggregation plus 2 additional Gigabit Ethernet ports. So in total, you have five LAN ports available, or four if you want to aggregate, which is about on par for the current Wi-Fi 6E router market.

Unfortunately, I only have 1Gps internet at this point but next year I should have 2. 5 with Google fiber coming to town. It also has a USB 3. 0 connector to hook up a shared storage device. With speed up to 7.

6Gps and up to 40 devices for its WiFi this is the middle of the road for Netgear’s new RAX RoutersYou get a limited free subscription to Netgear Armor a security shield from Netgear and if you have kids Netgear’s Smart Parental controls which helps in their management for time and accessibility.

The box also has screw hold on the bottom to allow for wall mount but you will have to put it high up to get the antennas out of the way. Setup is easy and one can accomplish this with Netgear’s App or the traditional web browser access.

Network access is available through the direct wire, traditional WiFi setup or WPS. I have one WiFi 6E device and I was pleasantly surprised at the speed available on the 6GHz band with this device. It is fast enough for HD movie streaming and some non competitive gaming with speeds up to 7.

8 Gbps. The USB 3. 0 storage was simple to set up. Netgear claims the RAXE300 can cover up to a 2,500 square feet home, I didn’t have any coverage problems and it was unphased by local network interference my neighbors generated.

The App is straight forward to use. You will still need the router page for more advanced controls like QoS and port forwarding, the App can do other things the router page can’t. In particular, I found it handy for testing signal strength while optimizing the RAXE300’s placement.

A few of these new features are the addition of WPA3 security, App alerts whenever a new device connects, vulnerability scanning of connected devices, and the ability to disconnect unwanted or unauthorized devices with the swipe of a control on your phone.

The router and two additional satellites were very easy to set up using the Nighthawk App which is available for Android or iPhone. My setup was done using an iPhone, and I was able to get up and running by following the straight forward instructions presented in the App.

In all, it took about 15-20 minutes to set up a basic configuration, and just a little more time for me to move the satellites around to different locations to test signal strength and conduct speed tests.

The Nighthawk App is proactive in keeping the router and satellite firmware up to date and checks to see if a new version is available during setup. This is a good thing, as it is very common for new firmware to be released periodically to add features, or to install security patches as new security vulnerabilities are reported.

My router had an update waiting for it right out of the box, and the process was nearly automatic and took no longer than 5 minutes. It is really nice to know the Nighthawk is focused on security, and is working for you behind the scenes to stay ahead of the “bad” actors on the Internet.

Two of my newer laptops instantly recognized the WiFi 6 upgrade from my older WiFi system, and the location upstairs where we previously had a weak signal and slow speeds, now has a much stronger signal and much quicker downloads.

I have a fiber Internet connection to the house with 500/500Mbps service. The speed test conveniently built into the Nighthawk App tested the connection of my ISP and returned results of 512 down and 505 up.

So, there are definitely no bottlenecks between the router and the ISP. Netgear’s Armor security protection is provided as a 30 day trial, with the option to install Bit Defender on your connected devices if you so desire.

Nice that I can try before I subscribe. For tech savvy folks, the traditional method of setting up the router is still available via a web interface which is accessible through a browser pointing to the router’s internal IP address.

You’ll definitely want to check it out, if you are into configuring the more advanced features. For example, I adhere to the practice of disabling the SSID broadcast on a private network, and that task requires accessing the advanced tab in the web interface of the router.

A second broadcasted guest network is available as an option to turn on for visitors, so you won’t have to disclose your hidden SSID and password for your private WiFi network. Overall: a fast, customizable, whole-home-covering Wifi system at a solid value.

IšverstiShow in original languageAs the title states, the wi-fi coverage I’m getting now is like night and day. I am an experienced tech person, so that is my frame of reference in this review. First, I did my research before coming into the store to purchase.

Most reviews I read, didn’t mention the NETGEAR Mesh Wi-Fi 6 system. However; being a tech person, I have used a myriad of NETGEAR products over the years, so I knew before hand they deliver quality consumer network products.

I like the NETGEAR system for two primary reasons: 1) price point and 2) it doesn’t spy on me like some other products I’ll not mention. Outside of that, the wi-fi coverage and number of devices that can connect simultaneously is comparable to more expensive products.

In addition, I liked the fact that each satellite has a wired gigabit LAN backflow connection. The installation was a little tricky because my ISP service is different than most; nevertheless, I was able to access the router configuration interface in short order to make the necessary adjustments to connect to my ISP.

My last three home routers were all NETGEAR, so I am very familiar with the router interface. The satellites connected automatically, so for overall installation, it was very quick and easy. My biggest concern, was getting a good wi-fi signal to our bonus room above the garage.

Previously, I had a router configured as a access point to the main router via hardwire LAN connection. It worked, but I also had one other router within the house acting as another access point. Again, this worked, but not as well as one would think.

When you move from one place to another within the house, the wireless devices would need to connect to the different access points, but it was never that simple and was not consistent – even if using the same SSID for all access points.

One of the new NETGEAR Mesh satellites is located downstairs below the bonus room, but there is ample signal to provide coverage to the bonus room now. My wife and daughter have complained for years about our wi-fi in our home.

Since I have installed this new Mesh system, zero complaints! I am very pleased and wish I’d have made this switch long ago. I highly recommend this system if you’re looking for a cost effective solution to whole home wi-fi coverage.

IšverstiShow in original languageBoth the hardware and the software are dreadful. First the hardware: I spent hours configuring and reconfiguring and could not get the boxes to talk to each other. Wired, wireless, sitting alongside each other it didn’t work.

The lights on the boxes bear no connection to their real world status. The app sometimes says they are not connected even when they are and says they are connected when they are not even plugged in or powered on.

Eventually I returned the system and was told it was faulty and given a replacement. But the replacement is only slightly better. The router works most of the time, one of the satellites is always working but the other one has never connected even once.

It’s useless. The app is even worse. Firstly you have to download an app and create an account with Netgear and remember username and password. Then you HAVE to agree to a 30 day trial of some netgear crapware and their lack of privacy policy just to use your hardware (this is actually illegal I’m pretty sure) and of course it bugs you to buy the full version.

And the app doesn’t work well. Usually it says it can’t find your network even when you are connected to it and able to get online through it. That’s once you’ve managed to log on and got through the “buy our software” stuff.

I am literally going to throw this away and buy something else. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis item is the easiest to install! I am not tech savvy, that said, the directions included with the product could not have been easier! From the time I removed it from the box to working was perhaps 10 minutes.

I had a Motorola product that was still working well after 8+ years- but with the times, I purchased a newer model- I hope it works as well. I am very happy with my purchase. I previously purchased a Netgear product for more money- was not impressed.

Customer service is NOT based in the USA- I had to call and try to understand the representative with roosters crowing in the background. (Which is why that product was returned. ) Motorola’s customer service is in the USA, another reason I purchased this product.

I have not needed customer service but if I did, that was important to me.

This was my first wifi system ever after moving out of my parent’s house and it was easy to set up. buying it outright means I didn’t have to rent the modem/router from xfinity and it saved me some coin (14$) on my monthly payment.

Make an account with xfinity then set up the router, and you’ll connect the router to your account through the xfinity app if you have iPhone (idk for android) and after it’s on and connected to xfinity, you have to download the app for the router mention in the instruction manual, and enter the details of the router into that app as well.

then, it is ready to work. I struggled with getting the names and passwords assigned to the internets on my account, like I’d have 3 names pop up in my phone’s wifi settings, two being 5g and one being 2.

4g, and I had to be on 2. 4g to make edits to the router settings but when I’d switch from the 5g to 2. 4g (not cellular) it would throw my connection in the trash 30 seconds after I connected. so I had to work fast to delete the guest network and cement a password into the 5g setting of the router’s app.

it gave me more trouble by not having a 5g page in the app to edit at all so I had to make the guest 5g just to edit the regular 5g. it was a little bit of running around and I suggest when you set it up originally, don’t confuse your networks or passwords.

I have them cooking smoothly now and my signal doesn’t drop or fade. It’s great for my small space. big houses might want a wireless access point upgrade but dorms, apartments, small houses and it’s fine by itself but your experience may vary.

using an internet speed test from google will help you see what your signal does behind closed doors or walls and is a great free diagnostic tool. my last bit of information that I had to claw and bite for on the internet is that this WiFi Cable Modem Router is a standalone unit.

You connect it to the wall with a coax cable (xfinity gave me one but you might have to buy one) and after you have an account with your Internet Service Provider (xfinity for my area) then this box will do all the work unless you choose to add extra bits.

It is a modem, router, access point, and has 4 switched connection points onboard. It’s pretty dang space conscious and I am happy with my purchase.

Well, I thought about it for awhile and then I just went ahead and bought it. I took it in to get registered at the cable store mac number registration counter and put in the time hooking and unhooking, typing in passwords, and calling, and in the end it was just incredible.

Oh! The applause we got! We did a two minute unplugged power cycle and subsequently were connected on all levels of the universe! I will save approximately $168 a year and be thankful to the online community (who we should all be thankful for) for my new dual-band connectivity.

And wouldn’t you know it, it was another funny pet video on YouTube, and I was on my way. I don’t upload, though, I’m not that sort of citizen. I like my router flexibility to be quasi-metaverse social.

I need my why-fries sizzling, if you can catch my drift. I don’t do video buffering. No more! I have tasted that cheese and it was moldy (and worst of all, unmelted. Boo!). I am not a mouse running from a hole in the wall to masticate and digest that queso.

I am a bird who now sores. A true de(s)cendant of the dinosaurs. I am a Nighthawk, spare me the wine and crackers, Xfinity! I am my own network: The new-Neo, the Netgear AC1750!!! I am the pathway to all that ever was, and all that will ever be!.

I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible. This product is obsolete in my opinion. They have been manufacturing this model since roughly 2013. No wonder I got it for almost $80 off. I purchased this because my Arris Modem/Router combo was old and failing PER Cox ISP.

Well I bought this and guess what? Everything got worrrrrse. I installed my Arris again and things got better and my device was failing? Guess not. With Netgear my signal drops more and the house WIFI coverage wasn’t any better.

But BAR NONE the biggest complaint is the customer service. I absolutely can’t update my firmware. They set ‘go to routerlogin. net’ but no option. They say ‘download nighthawk app’ but no option (endless loop of nothingness).

They say ‘download genie app’ but it says its up to date when it’s not. Then they say that COX is supposed to! And COX says, “hold up, wait a minute, something ain’t right – there supposed to. ” So back and forth.

I have decided to return after two tech visits from COX and a worsening signal and intermittent disconnects, but mostly cause everyone is pointing fingers are each other and the support is terrible. Do yourself a favor, pay a smidge more, buy a new model gateway or do what I did and get a modem and router separately so you can have a little more control over your setup.

IšverstiShow in original languageI’ve had this router for a year and a half, and I would not recommend it. The signal strength is extremely poor, so poor that 25 feet away from the router, in my bedroom (I live in an apartment), I can’t get webpages or apps to load.

Thankfully, I have unlimited data, so I just shut it off, but its super frustrating for my boyfriend, who doesn’t have unlimited data. Additionally, I pay for high-speed internet through Xfinity. I never realized that the router made a difference in the speeds you’d see at home (not tech saavy), so I just bought this router because it was cheaper.

It didn’t matter to me that it was a bit older, because I don’t care about having the newest thing. What I didn’t realize is that its cheaper for a reason, and really not compatible with higher speeds.

As a result of having to deal with slow speeds, my Roku television has really been struggling to stay connected to the router, especially in recent months. This is strange, because the router sits on the same shelf that the tv is on.

Frequently when I’m watching a show or listening to Spotify for the tv, it buffers for several minutes. Sometimes it just flat-out says it can’t connect to Netflix at all. It also struggles to load videos on my laptop and phone.

I would not recommend this router for the long haul, but would instead recommend that people spend the extra money on something more modern that can support high speeds. Don’t make the mistake I did! Please know that each router supports different speeds, so the router does matter!.

IšverstiShow in original languagePretty much everything you need to know to access and set up the C3000 is printed on labels hidden under the base, including the base IP address and the logon name and password.

It also lists the default WIFI password. And the PW is a combination of a friendly name and short number. So its easy for us humans to remember it. You would want to change this PW for security reasons after your cable Internet is up and working.

With an internal WIFI antenna the range on the C3000 was modest. Making it suitable for an apartment or a small home or office. You would need to use range boosters or access points in a larger building.

I tested two different cable modems while reviewing the C3000 and I was not aware of the hassle in having to call my ISP (WOW) just to have them update their equipment to allow a new cable modem to connect to their network.

I hear that Xfinity has a method where the customer can do this themselves, known as self-activation. The cable companies should be required to allow customers to perform these simple CM-MAC number upgrades themselves without having to involve a technical support agent.

I would think it would be possible for the cable modem industry to come up with a method to clone the existing cable modem settings and save them. Then it would be a simple matter of moving the coax cable from one modem to another.

This would save both parties a lot of time and money. The FCC should open up the cable industry more to help speed up this connectivity process. If you are paying the typical rental fee of $10. 00/month to rent a cable modem from your ISP, the C3000 could easily pay for itself in only nine months.

One caveat to keep in mind is if your present cable modem is also doing double duty as a VoIP device to operate your land line phones, (telephony) then the C3000 will not be able to replace that feature.

I did not realize this when I was offered the C3000 for testing, that phone lines are an expensive upgrade feature on most cable modems. If you do not have any land lines, an increasingly popular trend these days to save money, then the C3000 should work like a charm.

If you have multiple desktop computers or other devices that require a hard wired connection, just buy a Netgear gigabit switch with more than enough ports to handle all of your other wired devices. Connect the switch to one of the two Ethernet ports on the C3000.

Then connect your other devices to the gigabit switch. The DHCP server in the C3000 will take care of issuing IP addresses to all of your connected devices. The other Ethernet port on the C3000 could be used to connect a notebook for trouble shooting purposes, or a nearby desktop PC.

I can recommend the C3000, if you take the C3000’s WIFI-N and other limitations mentioned in the cons area into account.

IšverstiShow in original languageMy house is two stories and 42′ X 24, so it is about 2000 square feet total on 2 floors. The signal reaches everywhere just fine. Setup with Comcast was automatic. When I opened a browser the Xfinity setup page was there.

Very convenient. It is NOT dual band, so I get 2. 4ghz only and not 5. But I don’t get any interference and both my wife and I can stream video on 2 computers plus our Amazon firestick over Wifi without any issues.

It did not work with my old TPLink Range extender. It kept losing the IP address on one of our computers. But that was probably a problem with the computer and not the router. This was a great price on what, so far, has been a good experience.

However, if you live in an apartment or a neighborhood with lots of interference, you should probably pay the extra $30 to get the dual band model.

*Pro – Highly reliable and versatile modem. I have an older one (same brand) on the same network segment and both are doing great. *Con – The Wi-Fi coverage is so-so, with internal antennas. Probably it could output more with external for the same power.

If you need it to cover a wider area, definitely needs extenders / repeaters.

Ive had many and work in tech. Best router by far – helpful and easy interface. A lot of features. Best however is solid performance a lot of home internet issues are probably due to the cheap included router, stark difference implementing this.

Better than even my previous Asus router. Highly recommend Fritz Box.

This is an excellent router but be aware that it is not very easy to set up if you want to make use of the extensive features it includes. This is an excellent however, AVM the manufacturer, provides a good support service if you get stuck.
