My wife and i had a Tempurpedic mattress for about 15 years and loved both of them. The first one came apart and we had a warranty claim done on it with no problems and got a replacement that worked great up until this last year.
So the bed hunting began. We started by looking at Sleep Number, thinking it might be worth looking into a different mattress type as we hear on the radio, see on tv that they were supposed to be the best.
Problem with them is cost and pushy salespeople, for a king size mattress only no base, it starts at $3800 and the bigger turn off was it had moving parts that if they failed it could be a big problem to get replacements.
After looking at the following mattresses (no bases) we landed with Serta for reasons i will explain shortly. Beds we looked at personally in king size; Tempurpedic Hybrid (started at $3800), Sleep Number (mattress only – Started @ $4200), Serta iComfort Series (Started at $1900).
Online research – Personal Comfort (online retailer – Started at $3800), Purple ($2500 and up) and a few other online types. The BIG problem with online bed purchasing is you can’t “touch” it till it shows up, that didn’t work for us.
Those retailers offer free return shipping but from what we read about, it seemed like a big hassle, plus how do you get the mattress back in the box after you remove the vacuum packaging? We had a really hard time justifying a $4000 purchase online without being able to sit on it.
Then we decided to head over to Sleep-N-Aire Mattress gallery in Farmington NM, as our frustration was climbing with all the other options we had looked at so far and we were sure on what to do, we thought had done business with them before, we thought lets go check it out.
We were welcomed in by the own Beatrice and at NO time did we feel any pressure to make a purchase, unlike the Sleep Number and the Tempurpedic people, too pushy. We tried several Serta mattresses from the iComfort plush tops that were non-memory foam to the bluemax 3000.
All were fairly comfy but we needed to make another visit to be sure. We cam back a week later, again no pressure from Beatrice, except this time we took pillows and really tested out all of the mattresses.
We narrowed it down to 3, the Bluemax 3000, Blue max 1000 and another off brand. Everything we looked at had a reasonable price range for the bed type (reasonable meaning $1500 – $3500 – the higher number was the top of the line – notice the top of the line was well under the starting price for the others we were looking at).
After 3 months of looking, calling, online research and store visits we finally landed on the iComfort Blue Max 1000 Plush king and couldn’t be happier. Mostly because i know serta has been around the industry for a long time, so brand name recognition is a big plus along with a couple of other key factors; 1-Cost (2500 for a king size foam hybrid that sleeps cool is a great deal), 2-Physical touch(i know online retailers pitch a big game but for my wife and i being able to actually see it before we buy is huge, especially when you are spending several thousand dollars, free returns or not).
The serta mattress that we got is by far the best mattress we have slept on in a long time. Great job serta, you sold me for sure with your quality product, when my girls graduate and move on, i am highly recommending Serta for their homes and other people that might be looking for a mattress.
Thanks again for building such a great product. Almost forgot to mention, not only did Beatrice at Sleep-N-Aire do a great job, so did her delivery staff, spot on guys good job! For those readers who are hesitant to buy a memory foam mattress that is not a Tempurpedic, take a good long look at Serta and the iComfort series.
The memory foam game has changed A LOT in the last 10 years and the mattress industry has adapted to include all kinds of options from different vendors. I guarantee it is worth your time and money to check out Serta and the iComfort series along with the adjustable bases.
That is a whole other story on the bases. This time around my wife and i didn’t have the flexibility in our budget to get the base (which they were $1500, way better than Sleep Number, Tempurpedic, Personal Comfort((They each wanted $3000, just for the base!))) but we will look at the bases again in july and decide then, and yes it will be from Sleep-N-Aire.
If you have any doubts, take your pillow and head down to your nearest Serta Dealer and check them out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!.
