Type, and color of the marker. However, some tips on choosing markers for black dry erase boards include opting for bold colors that will show up well on the dark surface, and avoiding fine-tip markers as they can be difficult to see.
It is also important to make sure that the markers are specifically designed for use on dry erase boards, as some markers can damage the surface.
20 Best Markers For Black Dry Erase Board
1. Expo Dry Erase Markers, Fine Tip, Black – 4 pack
Create crisp, legible notes on your whiteboard without unpleasant odors in your classroom or conference room. EXPO dry-erase markers help make your presentation a pleasant experience for all. Smooth-flowing Expo markers deliver crisp, consistent lines.
Low-odor design. Specially formulated ink has virtually no odor. Fine point marker is usable on most non-porous surfaces. Wipes off easily. Less harsh chemicals – made with fewer harsh chemicals, or safer chemicals than typical alternatives, helping reduce your use of and exposure to substances that may be more harmful to your health and the environment.
I really liked the fine tip point on these. It make my excessively detailed to-do list fit neatly onto my whiteboard. And because I could write legibly in small print, I have been able to use a whiteboard calendar with my toddler for helping learn about things like “tomorrow” and to show her Mama is accountable for her promises too… (if I say we can’t go swimming today but I’ll take you Friday we put it on our calendar in her color and obviously dry erase marker has never been more truly etching in stone.
Anyway, I bought these in May of this year. It is August now. Actually it’s 3 months to the day since I bought these. I read the packaging thoroughly so that I could store them correctly. Usually dry erase markers don’t last long but I never really cared either- I preferred being able to keep my pens in my cool Minnie Pearl mug rather than care about their sustainability.
But these were all so brand new and such pretty colors and Oh! The things I was going to write! The lists! The honey-dos to my husband! The bathroom mirror reminders! I even made a little box just the perfect length for storing these markers horizontally AND rearranged and shelf in my kitchen so they could be within reach of the whiteboard but not too close to any possible over heating.
I know, I hear y’all, you’re right, this is TOO MUCH for some color sticks that wipe your words away to nothingness. But guys I LOVE me some pens and markers and notebooks and all of it so it’s just kinda my jam please accept me.
This is a quote directly from Expo’s website: “When not in use, EXPO markers stored horizontally with caps installed tightly will last approximately 2-3 years. ” Also this… “Depending on the extent of solvent loss, the markers can often be restored.
Place the cap back on the marker tightly and store tip down for 24 hours. The marker should revive. ” I did all that. Followed my instructions perfectly. Maybe there’s some unwritten but understood rule about expo markers that I don’t know.
Maybe it’s just a weird fluke that of 8 markers of varying colors 4 of them have completely just stopped working. And the other 4 are great. But it really rained on my color-coding parade. So maybe it’s because I can’t handwrite snarky love notes to my husband with red hearts and blue pants and full-color hoagies on our whiteboard that has left me with the time and amount of intention it took to write this review… I’m just saying… it would have been so awesome if I could have used them for more than three months.
Kinda feels like a rip off. And target is so awesome about fixing things like this… I’m sure they would replace it or refund it or whatever but I don’t feel like they should have to; I don’t think this was their fault.
So if you made it all the way this far my review is, “meh. I’d keep looking if i was you.
I got this pack of Expo Pens as a replacement, actually. In a Previous Order I had gotten my Baby Girl some Learning n Lesson Books, one of which was a Wipeable Book that came with a pen. However, the pen that came with that book did not work.
It was completely dried out. Which unfortunately meant that my Lil Girl had to wait even longer to receive one of her Surprises. But, thankfully, Wal-Mart had these Expo Pen Pack n they work excellently !! Nice Dark Bright Colors, Nice Smooth Strokes, Great Variety of Colors, n all for a great price !! They also work perfectly with her book.
One soft swipe with a dry paper towel OR cloth n it wipes completely clean. Which is so amazing, because to look at the Dark Bright Smooth (with no Streaking) Colors, you wouldn’t think that they would be so easy to wipe away, but they are We are thoroughly satisfied with these pens.
I have never had a bad experience with Expo Brand Pens 🙂 Very Grateful.
These Expo Bullet Tip Dry-Erase Markers are perfect to write with on my personal whiteboard (24” x 18”). The marker itself is thick and its weight gives me that nice feeling of control in the hand, while its lines are thick (think Sharpie but a little thicker) enough to read from five feet or more away.
Bought 2 packages: one with red, blue, green and one all black. The red shows up quite well! I had bought the fine tip (skinny markers) but the ink was not bold enough to stand out and those felt too light in the hand.
(Fine tips are better for smaller whiteboards. ) I will be using these bullet tip markers strictly for writing not for graphs or any other sort of artwork. Excellent writing tool!.

Trying different markers on my glassboard and found that most others had a red that smudged pretty badly. These write really well. Vibrant colors. A thinner line that offsets the thicker pens I already have, and none of the colors smudge or smear.
Great option. Note: this is on *glassboard* – can’t comment about usage on a whiteboard.
I haven’t had a chance to use these beautiful looking markers because the gigantic glass dry erase board I purchased about 2 years ago is still in the box for several reasons on the sellers part. I hope by the time I get it mounted, these pens aren’t dried out.
June 26,2021 Well, I finally got my board mounted last week. There were two markers that dried out. I’m also not impressed on how the markers write on the board. They show up very light. I have to use the darker colors for them to show.
For several years the custodial department of our university has researched the best dry erase marker for the classroom setting that pleases the faculty, the custodians, and hopefully the budget. That said, Quartet brand markers are the best.
1. They erase cleanly through out the day. Faculty can easily erase with out a “ghosting” shadow of the previous writing. 2. Color dry erase markers clean easily once each day on whiteboard painted walls.
Other less expensive color dry erase markers had to be erased immediately after use. Otherwise nightly custodial cleaning could not remove the color residue “ghosting” even with whiteboard chemical cleaner.
3. Quartet dry erase markers make a full strike mark and have good ink density. Other markers we tried would not make a full ink mark. It looked like only half the tip was making contact with the board.
Or the tip was ‘dry’ from lying horizontal on the tray, needing to be held vertical for a moment to saturate the tip with ink.
The bold black ink helps your writing stand out and gives your notes a professional look. Besides whiteboard surfaces, these are also suitable for glass and metal The rounded, lightweight barrel fits comfortably in your hand and also has a Snap-on cap that wont roll off of your desk.
It closes tightly to preserve the longevity of the low-odor ink. Once youre ready to wipe off your writing or notes, simply take a damp cloth or dry eraser and wipe it over your surface. You dont have to worry about your markers leaving ghosting marks behind; the ink removes cleanly every time.

I was a little nervous in buying these because of some the negative reviews I saw on others sites but took the chance and I am extremely pleased. The colours are bright and vibrant. I have not come across any dried out ones and I am happy for that.
I must admit though, they are a little short but they worked perfect for what I purchased them for. I will definitely buy again.
These are great! My daughter loves to draw with them on our big dry erase board. Unlike some other markers, they wipe off cleanly without leaving color stain behind. They are not washable, but you can pretty much get it off skin with a little hand sanitizer.
I like that there are multiples of the same color since my daughter frequently leaves the caps off. They don’t really rehydrate very well either. But the ones that have been capped are lasting a long time and she colors with them a lot.
I bought a set for myself and for my sister-in-law; we are both teachers. We call these the Cadillac of dry-erase markers. They write smoothly and appear bright and bold on the board. The variety of colors is great for engagement.
They last a very long time, too! The yellow is a bit useless on a white board though, I wish it could be a slightly darker shade, perhaps gold instead.
Bold, low-odor ink provides high visibility from a distance on whiteboards, glass and other nonporous surfaces. Wipes off easily with a dry cloth or erase. 1/5 inch durable chisel tip marks in a variety of line widths.
ACMI certified to meet Federal standards of nontoxicity; safe for office, school or home. Conforms to ASTM D4236.
Maybe I received a bad or really old batch. These all dried out ridiculously fast even though I always kept them tightly-capped when not in use. I use them on a lap-size write-on-wipe-off board for practicing algebra problems.
My 3 1/2 year old loves her whiteboard, and wanted “thin markers” to replace the big chisel-tip Expo markers she’d destroyed by routinely mashing the tips against the board with all the force in her tiny arms.
These were supposed to be cheap, disposable replacements, but they’ve lasted! That kid writes and write and draws and draws, pounding out polka dots and scribbles. And these don’t leak, don’t stop writing, and don’t break.
Also, they erase nicely, even from a rather cheap white board surface. I’ll be buying them again, if they ever run dry.
These are by far my favorite dry erase marker. The tips hold together much longer than the other brands I’ve tried. HOWEVER. I was disappointed in this particular box. More than half seem to have very little ink in them.
It’s almost as if they’re drying out before I can even use them. Pretty frustrating.
The artline 500a contains dry erase ink – Ideal for use with enamel porcelain or melamine surfaced boards. The alcohol based pigment ink has a non offensive low odour and provides dense bold colours.
Extra large nibs so messages can be easily seen from a distance. Pigment based ink for bold colours. Low odour alcohol based ink ink is xylene free and rohs compliant. Chisel nib with a 10mm line width.
These markers make for carefree storage with their built-in magnetic cap. They can attach anywhere there’s a magnet, like a whiteboard, locker, or fridge. Composed of a low-odor ink, these markers pass the standards set forth by ASTM and EN 71.
Safe and non-toxic, they can be used by both adults and children. The fine tipped point makes for perfect note-taking and precision color coding and highlighting. Efficient and quick drying, your important points will stand out.
The built-in felt eraser allows for the immediate fixing of mistakes without messing up the rest of your work. The ink erases cleanly so nothing will be left behind. Allow students and colleagues to participate in demonstrations without concern of harsh chemicals.
The dry erase markers are non-toxic and have a very low-odor profile. Ink dries quickly without smearing to provide clean and legible information. Don’t worry about black stained whiteboards, the ink also cleans easily with a simple cloth or whiteboard eraser.
Disappointing!. Just opened the packet to use. The colors are pale on the board, with no vibrancy and appear to be nearly dried out. Had to press hard on some just to see the color. And there was NO forest green, instead I received 3 medium browns.
We keep two white boards in the house to keep track of appointments, important days, meals for a week, future events etc. Would have let you know sooner but have been occupied.
I really love these markers! The colors are vibrant and erase nicely. I am a school teacher and they’re great for classroom use. I have purchased these twice and find them to be a great value. I will buy these from now on!.
Perfect for use on whiteboards, glass and most non-porous surfaces. Features: Modern barrel design with a rubberized grip for comfort and control. Smooth ink flow produces bright, vivid colors. Easily erases with a dry cloth, tissue or felt eraser.
Durable fine point is great for detailed writing. Supple clip. Low odor, alcohol-based ink.
This is another great product by Bic that I received to give my opinion on. This whiteboard marker has a textured rubber grip for comfort and control. Smooth, bright ink for whiteboards, glass and most nonporous surfaces.
Easily erases with a dry cloth or felt eraser. Low odor. The pen also comes in assorted colors. I love the slim design. The Bic dry erase whiteboard marker can be used in the classroom for illustrations, highlighting while you proofread, or for any every day use.
The product color should read LIGHT GREEN. It is impossible to read on the whiteboard from a distance. I use the pens on a huge 4′ x 8′ scheduling whiteboard, and STILL can not read the light whisper green pen.
We were looking for markers to use of our employees white boards for thier desks. We have begun using white boards as part of our environmental awareness program. Using the boards lessons the amount of note paper required for our call center.
The boards orginally came with markers, however we need some replacement markers and these one fit the bill perfectly. The order process was smooth and the items arrived quickly. Thank you.

This year has been extremely difficult for not only teachers but parents having to home school their children. We have been using these black dry erase markers at home to help teach our 1st and 3rd graders this year and they have been very helpful.
We have several white boards of different size that we use each day and they work great for writing big or small. The pens are fat which gives makes them easy to grasp for kids and are easy to write with.
Over the last two weeks that we have been using these dry erase markers we have never had a pen dry out and my youngest even forgot to put the cap back on her pen one day and it never dried out. The pens are still writing strong and not fading their color away.
The dry erase marker cleans off off the white boards with any eraser, towel or even a wipe of the hand. I left writing on a white board for over a week and it still wiped right off the board with no problem.
These pens are great quality and very durable for a long school year.
I recently bought these because the black marker from my previous pack dried out. The old pack contained black, red, blue and green. Only the black one dried out in about a year of use. So I ordered another pack from target and all the markers that arrived in the brand new pack were completely dried out.
I can barely see the ink when I write on the whiteboard. I was very bummed about this, because the other markers (red, green, blue) from my old pack, which are about a year old had more ink and darker tone than these markers straight out of the box.
I only give 2 stars because of the previous pack I bought before lasted so long so maybe this was a fluke. Idk. Expo is always good though so I would still recommend these markers to a friend, this review I hope is just an anomaly and not a beginning issue.

The markers feature a strong acrylic tip that will not bend or retract into the barrel, even with heavy use. The fine bullet tip delivers a 1. 4mm line width, perfect for small text and detailed whiteboard work.
Perhaps I received a dud batch, but these are probably the worst white board markers I have ever used. All of the colours are super faint. The black is a light grey, and strangely, the light blue is darker than the dark blue (which is the faintest of them all).
Unfortunately, I am stuck with them until I find something else. It’s a good thing my white board is directly across from my desk, or I’d never be able to see my whiteboard calendar with these as my only option.
When my pens arrived they had been packed so badly half of them had fallen out in the bottom of our postmans bag. Once hed had his entire bag out I was still missing two pens. Complained about the package and got ignored.
not used to being ignored Amazon So I have to make the complaint publicProduct in itself is currently doing well. students love the new pens.

This dry erase marker pack features the 12 black medium point markers. The dry erase markers feature a medium tip for a precise writing experience on any melamine, painted steel, porcelain or glass dry erase surface.
The contoured marker cap design prevents the markers from rolling off any flat surface or tray. The built-in felt eraser into the marker cap enables quick, convenient and precise erasing. For best results, re-cap the marker immediately after use and store horizontally.
I am never again buying the Expo brand markers. The last couple of times I bought them they dried out very soon and the tips frayed. I’ve bought the U Brand model a few times and I am very pleased. I also have a few of their whiteboard products.
I absolutely love this brand! Here is a trick for removing the marker off laminated sheets: Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Works like a charm. Better than alcohol.
These Erase Markers are the best I’ve encountered!!!! For this price, I’m like Thank You God for allowing me to receive these because I was praying for some. Yep. Girl stop playing and buy some for your classroom.
Half of markers are so light you cannot even see on a white or glass whiteboard from a few feet away. I. Wondering if I received a bad batch. It was interesting half of the colours were dark and quality, the others were wimpy and light.
I attempted to return. It was a no go, sorry Charlie.

School time is coming and I will absolutely be purchasing these many times over throughout the year for my child’s classroom. I will also be buying these for myself for my home office use, because of how much I like these! I have several whiteboards in my house, because we like to stay creative, and I also run a few businesses out of my home.
That being said, these are a perfect and bold edition to our marker collection and have become our go to dry erase markers. They have bold pigment and are not streaky like other dry erase markers that I have used in the past.
I have replaced quite a few of my markers with these since the quality is so great. I like that there are 4 markers included, and the basic colors that I always need. Black, green, blue and red, and they all perform very well.
My child has also used these on a school project on a glass window. It looked like stained glass which was really pretty and stayed until wiped off. When you want these to come off, they wipe away effortlessly and do not leave staining behind, which I’ve had that issue with many markers leaving huge deep stains behind.
These are perfect as I do not have to worry about my children staining the white boards through the house. But instead the markers offer a quality means of collaborating and drawing our creative ideas and thoughts.
I have told my mom friends to make the switch to this brand as well, because a few have asked what brand the bold colors are on my walls. If you want dependable fun colors I would definitely purchase these, they do not have the typical strong marker smell either which is nice since I have younger children.
1st impressions… very good! as a high school teacher starting 20th year, I consider myself a dry erase marker specialist. Wrote with 1 briefly yesterday = very dark black, smooth, no streaky blank spaces when drawing a line, (I’ve almost come to expect this from the biggest dry erase brand).
These are nothing like the dry erase markers that I grew up with. I mean that in the best way possible. These are dry erase markers 2. 0 updated with all the bells and whistles. Most notably, the scent is nearly imperceptible.
You can now get the job done without feeling faint by the you’ve reached that stage. They are also a lot less bulky; they’re easy to grip and maneuver comfortably. I appreciate the assortment of colors, they’re fairly standard, but easily discernible when used simultaneously.
Plus, they’re bold. Moreover, they are easy to clean, no streaks left behind resulting in furious erasing efforts. These are the best dry erase markers I have ever encountered and I would buy and use them again ten times over.
14. BIC Low Odor & Bold Writing Dry Erase Marker Chisel Tip Black Dozen
Features liquid ink and offers low odor and bold writing.
Visible ink supply level always lets you know when you’re running low.
For marking boards, glass, and most non-porous surfaces.
Long-lasting ink supply.
Provide smooth, consistent ink flow and bright, vivid colors.
Write out notes on a whiteboard or glass surface with these easily erasable markers. The smooth, consistent flow of ink helps you jot things down quickly. Chisel tips create thin, precise lines and bold marks.
Consistent ink flow lets you write with ease. Low-odor ink helps prevent irritation. Use on dry-erase boards, glass and other nonporous surfaces – jot down notes, sketch out ideas, then wipe it all away and begin again with no mess.
I love the different colors of this set. They are all vibrant and easy to read. Wipes off easily with just a tissue or eraser, but the red does leave behind a hue that you need alcohol to remove. It has a good tip for writing, not too thick.
Wouldn’t be good for a class room where you’d need to be able to read it from the back of the room, the lines aren’t thick enough. But for home use, it’s perfect. I’ve had them for about 6 weeks and I feel that they’ll last quite awhile.
I really like how you can see the ink inside, that’s very cool.
After searching Home Essentials Direct for hours and reading a ton of reviews, I couldn’t decide which dry erase markers to get. I wanted -non staining -no shadow left -won’t dry out quick -variety of colors -magnetic I couldn’t find any that seemed high enough quality with magnets so I gave up on that since I can get a magnetic holder or glue magnets on by myself.
In the end, I couldn’t decide between two brands so I bought both the Quartet https://www. Home Essentials Direct. com/gp/product/B008DQXKZK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the BIC Intensity https://www.
Home Essentials Direct. com/gp/product/B00QNUTNSG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The Quartet can write a thick and thin line The BIC only a thinner line (not super thin but fine) Both were with $2 of each other and had 12 markers in the packs I like them both.
The BIC Intensity markers seem to erase a little more cleanly on the first swipe but both erase fine with a second swipe of the eraser. The Quartet writes just a bit darker. So far neither has stained my two new dry erase boards so I’m happy there.
I like variety of colors and both brands seem to be nice and vibrant and easy to read on my boards. Bottom line – I think you’ll be happy with either of these. They both work great and erase without a problem.
If either brand added magnets or erasers on the ends I’d say they were a clear winner but I’ll have to get out my super glue and do that myself. I’ll update my review if either set dries out before they should.
I’ve only had them a couple weeks, so I can’t speak to the longevity of either brand yet. I’m currently storing the markers on their sides when not in use.
Color is vibrant. Saturated, not like a dry Expo. Totally readable. I think a couple of the lighter tones are too light for a classroom, but that’s the nature of the color. The markers actually even make those light ones look pretty good.
I read a couple reviews about leaking, and since it’s my first time with the brand I decided to keep them in a ziploc just in case. Been almost 2 moths and no hint of leaking. I will update this review if that changes, otherwise I like these over Expo for sure.
By the way the Bullet tip produces lines about as thick as a typical chisel tip. You can find line thickness comparisons online. Bullet is a little thinner but it is appropriate for a classroom. I actually like this better because i was never a big fan of that calligraphic twist in line curves.
Features Whiteboard markers deliver bold writing with a fiber bullet tip. Low-odor, alcohol-based ink is nontoxic and designed for dry-erase use. Cap and grip match ink color. Cap includes a clip for attaching to pockets and notebooks.
It can be little better. The ink is light (except black) and the tip is not firm. Since these are thin pens people are supposed to use them in smaller whiteboards for personal purposes. Giving a soft nib makes the writing undistinguishable.
Bold colors are easy to see from a distance and easy to erase from whiteboards, glass and most non-porous surfaces Low odor dry erase ink is ideal for classrooms, offices and homes Durable bullet tip allows for broad, thick lines Made in the USA.
With a high quality ink that lasts for long- the KleenSlate Concepts Markers add a definition to your sketches and artwork. Each of these markers come with a bullet tip for bold and thick strokes. Its detachable dry eraser caps enable easy erasing.
In case one of the markers dry out- you can simply remove the eraser and attach it to another similar sized marker as it fits on more than 75% markers.
I teach 4th grade math and my students LOVE their Kleen Slate whiteboards and markers with eraser caps! We use them every day and they hold up better than any other marker I’ve ever used! I spent a lot of money in the past on other dry erase markers that would fall apart or not even last 2-3 weeks, until I found Kleen Slate’s markers at a TITLE 1 show.
I was amazed at how little they smelled and how durable they were, so I got a pack for my class. To my surprise, they lasted almost the entire school year. No other marker has lasted so long in my class before, so I am a huge fan of these high quality markers.
I continue to buy them for my class, and you should give them a try in yours. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND these to any teacher who uses whiteboards!.
I LOVE the new KleenSlate Dry erase markers with erasers. The black is dark and the markers are made for both adults and kids. Low odor markers help keep the classroom from smelling like a marker factory, they last a long time and the marker points don’t push in- this saves me having to stop teaching to replace a marker for a student.
I also take them to all our games and appreciate that they have a durable felt eraser on the end! Thanks Office Depot for carrying quality products!.

The pens ink features a long cap-off time so it does not dry out if the cap if left off.
I love working on toned paper, either using black and white ink, or colored markers. So always needing an effective way to do highlights. I’ve tried while gel pens, but they aren’t consistent and always dry out on me.
And I will also use white colored pencil, but they doesn’t always look good with my markers. But this pen has a consistent flow of white ink that’s easy to use. No pressing the nib to try and get ink out like with paint pens.
It does dry a little transparent on the first go, but I have no issues with applying more ink to make it solid. Plus being able to control values is a plus. I do wish the tip was a finer point for finer details, but I can still get away with small areas with this pen.
Bought myself the Jack Russell one and my daughter in law liked the plaque, so I bought her the Gin O,Clock one, 🍸 which she has proudly displayed over the entrance of her new summer house. An affordable keepsake gift.
Win Win. I would recommend purchasing the white reflecting panel with it, if it is going up on a dark background. So easy to put up.
of course bullet tip are the industry standard and the preferred option for most whiteboard users, however a the real tragedy of this whiteboardwashing is the total marginalisation of chisel tip from the marketplace.
I was unable to find chisel in any high street retailers and their place here on Amazon is little assured. In fact, some bullet tip are being erroneously sold as chisel which, along with fake news, represents a genuinely socially damaging problem.
My board handwriting is pretty illegible wiyh bullet tip and this was really impacting progress for many of my learners. With school budgets as they are the procurement department were utterly unsuitable to meet the task of finding chisel tip markers for my classroom.
To this end, the marketplace vendor in this instance may claim to have improved the learning of up to 90 students in my current cohort. Delivery was swift and product was reasonably priced, however only four stars due to the inclusion of yellow, an utterly bemusing choice for the classic white board.
The conclusion of markers for black dry erase board is that they are the perfect way to keep your board looking new and clean. Dry erase boards are prone to smudging and ghosting, but with these markers, you can easily erase any markings with a dry cloth or eraser.
