IšverstiShow in original languageChose this unit for our new home we were building. I liked the foot print size, endless hot water, and cost. I have had zero issues with the unit since it was installed and zero complaints from any guests about temperature.

The only downfall is the length of time to get hot water when the house is dormant. Definitely recommend a circulator pump at the farthest point just to keep the hot water closer to the tap. This was supposed to be done by the plumber during the build but was missed and unfortunately overlooked by myself due to external circumstances.

I would definitely recommend this tankless water heater.

IT WAS HERE 5 DAYS EARLY! I can hardly wait for my new gas bill. Oh and it was so so very nice to return my old water heater to “RELIANCE HOME DISCOMFORT”.

IšverstiShow in original languageI replaced a 35 year old tankless water heater (Aquastar) after I could no longer get replacement parts for it. The prices for new units are very high, but my situation limits my water heating options so I didn’t have much choice.

My Rinnai RU160Pi has been in operation for a few weeks now. It seems to be working reliably. So far so good. I’ve made a couple of submissions to Rinnai’s on-line (e-mail) customer support and have heard NOTHING back from them after 10 days.

That is unacceptable. Below are my queries: 2019-03-25: I recently purchased a Rinnai RU 160Pi tankless hot water heater. I also purchased 2 Rinnai PCD07-SM Pipe Cover Enclosures. I was hoping to cover a large pipe space under my hot water heater using two (2) enclosures.

I need assistance figuring out how to mount the lower (2nd) pipe enclosure. I have successfully installed to first enclosure below the unit. It would seem that the pipe cover enclosure unit was not designed to do this.

The sides are desi.

This is a “Value” series of Rinnai tankless water heaters. Installation is not easy as noted by other reviews of this product. Be prepared to spend considerable effort in installing this product. The most significant issue is venting.

The installation manual only references “local codes and ordances” which is not much help for a DYI install. This product was purchased to replace a Bosch tankless which used a Type B vent however Rinnai requires as special ” Condensing Ventilation” which is completely different.

If you purchase this product you must add cost of the specialized ventilation components which are are more that the Type B ventilation components. The most information for DYI installation is YouTube as the manual constantly references a “certified” Rinnai contractors.

The other major issue is that you must connect this product to a 120 vAC source for the NG model. This requires running a 120 vAC to the tankless water heater connected to a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to provide operation during power outages.

This product will only be used on rare occasions when guests are will be be using Hot Water outlets which is a good application for a Thankless Water Heater. If you are not a DYI installer total installed cost must include the ventilation components, UPS and Hot and Cold water valves.

I like the fact that this heater takes up a small amount of wall space and that there’s no opportunity for it to ever leak hot water on the floor or have mineral buildup inside it. I was surprised its a bit loud when turning on to do its thing (it sounds like a small engine revving up).

So, I’m glad this is in my basement. If one were to install it in the main living area near a location you want to keep quiet, I suggest you reconsider. My salesman told me it may take 2-3 years to pay for itself in savings.

I look forward to that. All-in-all, this is an awesome product.

I have 2 Rinnai tankless heaters in our house, and we have been living in this new-build for 3 months now. The systems perform well once the hot water is delivered to your faucets. It does take quite awhile to get the hot water to the sinks closest to the water tank (close as in 5 feet away from the faucet).

Once the flow of hot water has started, it is quite good! A few quirks in the system that our plumber has said to contact Rinnai about: Sometimes the hot water and cold water will reverse places. This sounds odd, I know.

I didn’t believe my son at first when he told me there was cold water coming out of the faucet when he turned on the hot water, and really hot water coming out of the faucet when the cold water was turned on.

However, we have experienced this “switching” event in the bathroom and kitchen faucets, which are on different tank systems. We plan on contacting Rinnai about it upon the advice of the plumber. He said he has heard of this happening before, and that.

I get the concept of why a tankless system should be better than a traditional tanked heater, however, my Rinnai consistently fails to deliver hot water on demand. I have had several people, installers, sellers, etc.

, tell me that my unit is fine, however, when you turn on a tap to shave, wash dishes, wash the dog, etc. , you may or may not get hot water. I was finally told by my water expert that the problem is insufficient water pressure.

So that when we use the bath or shower enough water goes through the unit to cause the unit to respond, however, the sinks may not call for enough water for the unit to realize that it should produce hot water.

If I have to spend a couple of thousand dollars on a system to increase the water pressure, it defeats the purpose of having the tankless system. We have a well, but I would not have said there was a pressure problem but for this heater.

When you turn on the taps you get a good strong flow. But not enough for this heater. I am extremely angry that no one told me of the possibility of this problem when I was shopping for the heater.

This heater works like a champ for my purpose with a couple exceptions. I’m using it in a combination heating and domestic situation and that is going well. Let me be clear that the heater is working as designed but my situation is extreme in its located at 9700 feet in elevation and the temperature of the water out of the ground is very cold.

Because I am running it in a heating application I have a commercial control and have it set at 170 with a mixing valve on the domestic to bring it back down to 130. This works fine for all fixtures except for a high volume tub that given the ground water temperature and amount of temperature rise to 170 the unit resricts the flow to accomplish this.

This is however what it’s supposed to do as rinnai heaters guarantee the water leaving the unit to be the temperature set and by restricting flow to produce all the water it can or is being asked to by flow of a fixture.

The unit adjusts the fuel usage to burn just enough to heat the amount of water to the temperature set. Like I said it works wonderfully on lower volume fixtures and really OK on the higher volume tub it’s just not what I was used to when I had 40 gallons of water stored hot, but a little patience pays off as I don’t run out of hot at some point.

In conclusion I highly recommend this unit but there is a learning curve from what we’ve become used to.

I previously had a Rinnai c85i-1 (REU-V2532FFUC-US) and was highly satisfied with it but it sprang a massive leak and needed to be replaced. The new unit is an RL94i (REU-VC2837FFUD-US) and is MUCH louder than the previous unit, to the point where I’m hesitant to use hot water because I don’t want to disturb the neighbors.

I called the installer back out, and he said the volume is normal for that unit. I contacted Rinnai support and they said it shouldn’t be obnoxiously loud, and suggested that maybe the fan blade was damage.

However, they didn’t offer to connect me with another authorized installer. I frankly don’t trust the original installer’s assessment (normal volume), and feel that Rinnai could have taken more initiative to dispatch a second authorized installer to verify the original installer’s assessment.

If the new unit really is significantly louder than the previous unit, I’m dissatisfied with the product and would shop around in the future for a unit that is better designed acoustically.

Water heater that takes minimal space. Unfortunately does not have a remote so you must remove box cover to change settings. In addition, water to kitchen takes a long time to get warm; it never gets hot.

Wad told this is because water pipes traveling through cement slab. Kitchen sink water is lukewarm at best in a new construction home.

Works great but you may experience a delay in getting hot water to the faucet compared to old hot water tank. I have copper pipes so they are giant heat sinks that are no longer being kept warm by the old water heater.

As a result they draw heat out of the water when it is first starting to run, which I expected having dealt with copper pipes and soldering. This should be less of an issue if you have PEX or PVC pipes.

To help reduce the heat loss I have placed insulation on all the hot water pipes which has helped reduce the initial hot water time and holds the heat in during the morning so there is very little lag during heavy use periods.

If I was on city water I might be concerned about the extra couple of gallons that must be run to get the initial hot water in the kitchen (furthest run). The bathrooms are near the water heater so they take about half the cold water before hot.

Once the hot water is there it is never ending. No longer any concerns about family taking long showers or baths. Also this will be great for the initial hot tub fill I will be doing this week. Be sure to check your gas meter capacity.

I went with this unit because of the 120K Btu. This plus my gas furnace, gas dryer, gas double range added up to a max Btu that my meter could handle. If I had been over the rating, which would have been the case with a larger unit needing 199K Btu, the utility would require a meter upgrade at a charge of $500.

Water heater cuts off unexpectedly. Did it several times within 8 months. Put a remote panel in February. Went out about once a week for two months then worked fine for two months. Started going out every day for a week and now cuts off about every 10 days.

Have to reset it on the remote panel.

IšverstiShow in original languageI own a hotel and we have 3 Rinnai units, plus a 200 gal hot water tank that serves as a storage tank. The Rinnai units supply water to the tank and the tank supplies hot water throughout the hotel.

I have a circulating pump always moving water throughout the lines in the hotel. This system works great! However, I have gone through many sets of these units due to our city water being very hard. The calcium builds up inside the small copper pipes inside the units and eats the copper.

We flush the units out with vinegar on a regular basis (every 3 months) to help clean out the internal piping. This may help, but it doesn’t seem to extend the life of the units very much. The heat exchanger will burn out in about 3 years, so be prepared to spend about $400 per unit at that time.

These units work great until this happens. Again, I believe that it’s a water type issue. If you have hard water, you might want to just go with the standard water heater. They last about 6 years and then replace it for $600.

00 for another 6 years. Hope this helps someone.

IšverstiShow in original languageI’m writing a point form review because I don’t want to spend any more time on this very average water heater. We have two installed in different areas of our house and both behave identically, so it’s not a “lemon” problem.

1. They both make a loud groaning noise when they fire up. I’ve tried everything – including increasing the gas pipe diameter and changing every setting I can – and still they groan. We may have to move one unit because it is disturbing a neighbor.

2. We wanted to use these as solar water backups. Once the inlet water falls below a certain temperature, they should kick in and maintain hot water. Nope; they don’t fire up unless you increase the flow rate to a ridiculous level, eg full hot in the shower.

Then you have to wait until they start and deliver hot water. Yes, flow rates during normal usage – eg, shower – are well within spec. This is the real deal-breaker. A fundamental design fault. Did anyone at Rinnai ever test these things? 3.

They do NOT come with a controller. We knew this but figured we’d buy one, use it to set each unit up and then disconnect it. Nope; if you disconnect the controller, the unit reverts to non-controller settings.

Dumb. 4. Totally agree that the manual is a joke. It’s as if it was written only so that someone could tick a box and say, “Comes with a manual”. (We also have two Rinnai FC810N vent free wall heaters and they also have inept manuals as well as having some crazy-stupid design faults such as a child proof lock that unlocks if the power goes out!) 5: Rinnai service is non-existent.

They just say to contact a registered installer. There is ZERO support in any way for these things. 6. The mechanical build quality is quite high, very solid and good machine tolerances and finish. It’s just a pity that the things don’t work very well.

In short, I would never buy another Rinnai product ever again. And this is after thinking that they were a good, solid Japanese brand I could depend on. Nope!.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is my third Tankless hot water heater. Even if I replaced it again early, I would buy another one. Love the easy to install, easy to clean and endless hot water it provides.

This unit gets back to the original install as far as ability and flow. I installed myself and found that the previous two installs which were done by professionals excluded the much necessary drain line for the non-condensing model.

This one should last considerably longer. Great tankless hot water heater – I highly recommend.

Pros: This is probably a good outdoor shower propane water heater if used for that purpose. Cons: I bought this propane water heater to replace an existing water heater that supplied hot water to 2 bathrooms in my home.

The ad says that “You can get instant endless hot water easily wherever you are. ” However, there is a 20 minute timer that shuts off the hot water automatically after 20 minutes to avoid overheating, so not really endless hot water.

If you are in the UK, you probably won’t need to purchase the rather expensive pipe adapters to convert the three 1/2″ BSP connections to 1/2″ NPT for connecting the propane and the water supplies if you decide to use this for a permanent house supply instant hot water heater as I did here in Florida.

The unit comes with one brass adapter, but because I did not use the included shower head and portable LP tank connections that were supplied with the unit (because I was replacing my old instant hot water heater) so I had to purchase 2 additional BSP to NPT connectors.

If you are replacing a unit with this one and adapting it to your existing piping, the cold water inlet is on the right, the hot water outlet is in the center and the LP supply is on the left for this unit.

My previous pipe installation was different and I had to reconfigure the piping as needed. My unit was “reconditioned” which made the purchase price attractive. However, when I inspected the unit before installation, two spot welded supports for the venting at the top of the unit were broken off and I had to pop rivet the heat exhaust vent to the back of the unit to give it some support.

It appeared that the unit had been stressed by dropping it as the top of the exhaust vent had a dent. Probably someone lost their grip while handling it out of the box. Reconditioning the unit amounted to putting it back into the box and shipping it out again.

Addendum: My reconditioned hot water heater was delivered with a broken control valve making the unit inoperable.

I dont often review stuff I know I should as I rely on others opinions on things. I bought this for our campervan when we are free camping. I read the reviews, took a punt on it and was pleasantly surprised.

It really is a good piece of kit. I’ve fitted quick release couplings for the water and gas so I get it out, hang it on the back door, couple the water and gas and off we go. I’m really pleased with the flow rate and how warm the water is, after all it is 10kw rated.

Obviously we wont be using it all the time, if we are on a campsite etc, but even my wife thinks it’s good and that must be a good seal of approval. It came next day too I was really impressed. Buy one you wont be disappointed.

If you camp. This is a fabulous way to have a hot shower or hot water for dishes in primitive campgrounds. If you camp with horses like me, then the horses can get a warm bath too. Gets all that sweat and out easily.

I mounted mine on a wheeled hand cart type thing for use on the ranch. Great for outdoor showers near pool. Also for baths for farm dogs and horses of couse. If you have a horse show to go to, washing them with hot water gets them sparkling cleam.

Got an attachment to hose to ad in shampoo or conditioner. And glass cleaner if you’re using for windows on house or camper.

Mounted everything on a 45 cm x 2. 5 m marine ply board put in the 2 D cell batteries. Connected my propane gas cylinder regulator and turned on the water. The heater fired up and very hot water sprayed out of the handset.

Controlling the temperature and quantity of of water delivered is very easy using the appropriate labelled knobs. A couple of niggles are that the very nice regulator included only fits Camping gas bottles, whereas most of the UK uses a small Butane or propane cylinder and I found that the on off handset switch to be very stiff at first.

However all in all the water heater works very well and I have since added a pair or quick snap together gas couplings so as the the tubing stays with the unit and the unit is completely portable.

We chose this particular model for two reasons: First: our gas line is 1/2″ in diameter, and most tankless heaters are 3/4″ in size. the second reason is we wanted to free up more space in our garage so we elected to have the outdoor model.

We have a 2-bath home and haven’t had any issues at all when using both bathrooms at the same time. This was a self-install and was a breeze. The instructions were easy to understand, but if you are not handy, please hire a plumber to install it.

Having said that, there are a number of You Tube videos on how to install a Noritz product for reference.

The electronic control board of our prior unit failed and caused us to look for a replacement. The local water heater specialty strongly suggested the Noritz. As we were without hot water and wanted an installation quickly we agreed.

Replacement was quick. As this is an outdoor unit we had an issue of condensation building up behind the outer panel dripping on pipe insulation below. To mitigate this the installer added a piece of pcp tubing to extend from the hole in the unit bottom to near the concrete, bypassing the insulated piping.

The remote temperature control is very difficult to master. The instructions do not match the steps required to change water temperature. A bit of trial and error was required.

I had my first Noritz model N-069M for 18 years until the gas valve went out. Noritz customer service was great and we determined the gas valve was bad. A new gas valve was more than a new unit so I purchased the NR98-OD-NG on the NORTIZ recommendation.

Mounting is the same as my older unit. The hot water line fits perfectly. I was able to get the cold line to fit after a little bending. The gas line however needed to be replumbed. I loved my first Noritz and I’m sure I will love my new one as much or more.

Received NR50ODLG, when the description was NR50ODNG. I have natural gas. Connecting a water heater designed to use LG = liquid petroleum gas (propane tanks) would be dangerous since wouldn’t burn correctly.

Good that I noticed that (labels on the water heater) before installing. Home Essentials Direct’s system didn’t offer to send the correct part, so I’m back to square one.

Heater is worth every penny. Elevation is an issue with these. I’m at about 1800 feet and have zero issues.

But let me start at the beginning. I ordered a tankless water heater around the first of June, by about the 28th I call customer service to find out what is going on. She tells me that she sent an email to the manufacturer and it will be 2-3 days before I know what is going on.

I was without hot water, so I was not a happy camper. So I called Mr. Marcus’ office to get a better answer, and that’s where the story gets great, the lady I spoke with was wonderful, she called the manufacturer to find out the water heater I had ordered was on backorder until the middle of July.

I was mad cause I had not been notified of this. But she helped me pick another one that was comparable and actually cheaper. I am so happy. It’s great. Now I’m a happy camper.

When I chose to go down the road of switching from tank to tankless water heater, I thought the project would be relatively painless. When you first start the project, you immediately recognize that the heater itself is a bit more expensive, but the long term value should be realized over a fairly short period (say 3-5 years).

What you probably don’t think about is the massive cost to re-plumb your water and gas lines from existing location to new location (mine went from closet under the stairs to an exterior wall). This requires permits and a lot of other potential headache, plus for me, an additional $7000.

Knowing that I would eventually cannibalize that old water heater space for an open concept kitchen in the future, I decided the cost was worth it. The other things you may not know about are the requirements to safely dispose of the condensate from the unit.

Many users can safety put it into a dirt pit a certain distance from their home. Other need to send it thru their sewer system. I needed to send thru the sewer line which meant I needed to drain the condensate to a receptacle and pump it to my washing machine’s drain.

Not a huge deal, but definitely an added expense. But, there was a problem that i didn’t understand until a couple months went by and I had to live with hot/cold water. I was experiencing sudden cold water in my shower after about 6-8 minutes of use.

Turns out a sensor in the unit was shutting down after detecting water in the condensate line (good right?). Reason this happened was the drain line was too far down in the sump pump and when it filled to a certain level, the sensor would go off and shut the heater off.

There was never any backup of condensate water, but the sensor was a bit too sensitive and it took me months of unhappy use to get it figured out. Because there are many factors involved, you’re not sure if its a defective unit, improper installation, or something else.

My issue was something else.

I considered tankless water heaters but because of the distance of our master bath from the water heater it takes about 4 minutes for hot water to flow. We put a recirculating pump on our tanked water heater and that cut the time for decent hot water to 15-20 seconds.

But, when I first looked at tankless, no manufacturer supported recirculating pumps. When Rinnai introduced their tankless model with a recirculating pump our HVAC and water heater provider called me, we priced it and installed a month or two later.

We have been very pleased ever since. We run the recirculating pump for only a scheduled 1-2 hour window of time each day and we turn it on for a few minutes other times of the day to warm up the water line.

When we go on vacation we turn the unit off and don’t waste any gas like a tanked system does keeping 50+ gallons of water hot. Within a couple months during the summer months, we noticed an immediate savings of $10-15 per month on our gas bill! I don’t know exactly how long it will take to pay off the tankless water heater with the gas savings but I don’t really care about that.

I love the fact that the unit is hanging on the outside wall of my house and I will never have to worry again about the mess that comes when a tank springs a leach (which they do!!!).

The product with the recirculating pump had surpassed our expectations. One of the most important points is to get a Rinnai experienced/recommend installer! We had a general contractor install it while he was doing other work on our house and he incorrectly installed the recirculating pump.

It did not function at all. Rinnai customer service technician walk us through the correct steps and it worked flawlessly! We can’t say enough how pleased we are about our Rinnai water heater and the Rinnai customer support!.

The Rinnai delivers limitless hot water to your home at a very affordable price. This is my second unit. We moved and the first thing I installed in my new home was the tank less hot water heater. I would recommend putting the hot water heater indoors (garage), although many installers want to install it outside.

The reason I put mine in the garage was to prevent insects, like wasps, from nesting in the interior of the unit. I also HIGHLY recommend using a water softener in your home to avoid mineral buildup in your tank less hot water heater and home pipes.

Once you get the hot water running through your pipes you have excellent performance. One drawback is the length of pipe that you have to “heat up” before you are getting hot water at your tap. You can waste gallons of water waiting for the hot water to reach the tap.

That length depends on the size of your home. I put in a recirculating pump with a timer so that in early morning and evenings I recirculate hot water during.

The install went on the outside of the house. This eliminated the need to have a water heater take up space in the garage. But for some freakish abnormal weather in late January 2018,, which caused a brass fitting to temporarily freeze up, the unit has been most reliable.

Water temperature is fine but it requires a little time to get hot water in areas of the house further away from the unit. We installed the unit when the house was built in late 2017 thinking in the long run it’s efficiency would save us money.

So far we have not been disappointed. It has met our expectations and we would recommend it to any of our friends.

This is my second Rinnai. My first unit lasted 20 years. I have had regular hot water heaters before my purchase on the Rinnai and I can tell you there is no comparison. The tainkless is by far the superior unit.

You literally never run out of hot water. In contrast, if you own a regular hot water heater, you can count on running out of hot water and also dealing with the inner and outer rust that your heater will incur after 4 or 5 years of use.

In closing, Rinnai is a German made product. You will this product to be superior like no other.

Last month, we replaced our Prestige 84 DV with the same unit. The first one developed an internal leak and shorted something so it failed to work. The first was 2. 5 years old and never had a failure.

I hope to have the first repaired by Rheem to have as an in series unit. I replaced the first with a like unit because it is easy to install and we were plumbed for the unit.

The product was installed a week ago tomorrow so I’ not sure this is a very conclusive review. Might be better to ask for a review six months from now. I trust the name Rheem and thus far I like my new water heater.
