20 Best Looper Pedals For Beginners (2023 Updated)

I purchased this looper pedal to replace an another older pedal from a different manufacture. I like the larger pedal, makes operation easier. Has a built in battery which means unless you unplug the pedal from your system when the amp is off the pedal remains on causing the battery to go bad.

I unplug the output and it will shut it down. The only problem I encountered was Boss Corp. factory support. I went on their web site to register the product, which requires setting up an account. After inputing my information, the site requires that you send them a email and they will send back an activation code, to finish the install.

I did what was requested, but never received the code in any email to me. (Yes I checked my Junk Mail Folder) I tried multiple times with no success. I called Sweetwater for a contact phone number for Boss since the Boss web site gives no contact information.

They gave me a phone number which was an automated line, left a message and never received and response back from them. You would think that a corporation as large as Roland-Boss would have some time of customer service.

Glad I did not buy a high end item. And when I am in the market for another piece of equipment, I would hesitate to purchase a Roland-Boss product.

High value and quality! Maybe not for the touring professional who needs every bell and whistle, but for beginners or intermediates it’s a really solid feature set and great quality at a price point that is just a hair over the price of some much more basic units.

Spend the extra $20 and get a pedal you’ll love! Loopers are super fun, this one is no exception. There is a learning curve but that’s more on the player than the pedal. (If your timing/coordination are not on point, a looper, like any recording method, will really highlight that.

) Would highly recommend to anyone interested in a looper for fun, creativity, practice, comping, improving over your own backing, even for pro use if you don’t need the fanciest bells n’ whistles.

For a compact looper pedal this has, great features. The deal breaker is the circular led panel. While this pedal functions in a basic way the led tells you exactly what is happening and where you are in you loop.

That knowledge makes me far more confident to use it live. You can end the playback and erase the loop silently or pause the playback and use it again – useful if a lead break is later in the song. You record the rhythm part, pause it and start it later on in the song.

There options for adding extra pedal to control things but I found I got on OK without them. Basically a solid looper with a useful display that is, easy to read in a live situation. The trick to silently erase is to double tap and hold the second tap.

Stops instantly and the erases a couple of seconds later – this isn’t clear in the instructions.

Waited three months and it showed up with a broken knob. They’re out of stock again so I assume the exchange process would also take months. Probably just returning it. I can already tell that it has some of the same drawbacks as the rc505 in terms of midi connectivity.

I can get it to sync up and start the first loop on beat, but then subsequent loops (or even that first one if I clear it and try again) lose the downbeat after that. Not sure why that would be but I can’t get it to find the downbeat again until I turn it off and back on.

Even starting fresh on a new memory it won’t lock in again without a total reset. They advertise all these capabilities and different loop modes/behaviors but don’t mention that if you’re trying to sync it with anything then most of the modes are even an option.

As far as I can tell midi sync only starts recording on the downbeat if you have loop sync on, meaning the start of each phrase is lined up. So then if two phrases aren’t the same length and you try to switch between them they start in the wrong spot.

This essentially means that only one setting out of all of them can be used with midi (loops synced/same length or multiples). Far less versatile than what is advertised. I don’t know about you guys but I play lots of songs where sections aren’t all the same length.

I suppose you could program in the specific number or measures for each phrase before recording and maybe that would work but I’m doing bar gigs and taking requests and stuff. I can’t stop and map all that out in advance.

Even when it is synced, the phrases I record still sound glitchy like they’re being quantized even though hypothetically it shouldn’t need to be stretched at all if the start and end points are synced with the metronome.

These kinds of limitations aren’t mentioned anywhere in the documentation. The manual is only like 20 pages and doesn’t go into any detail about any of this. You just have to spend the money and figure out what doesn’t work on your own.

Very frustrating. I like the fact that it has 6 loops per memory. And the idea of being able to “bounce” one track to another is brilliant. I’ve always used two loop stations to recreate that, and would very much appreciate the flexibility of having it built in.

It probably works great if you’re just looping on the fly without a metronome but I specifically bought it for use with a drum machine because they advertised so much more functionality in that area.

Beyond disappointed.

First off, I didn’t have the latest firmware update, and loops were going a bit wonky and astray. With latest firmware and most issues solved, I’m finding this an absolute joy, particularly with the fuller, less ‘in the box’ sound that looper tend to get when you pile lots of loops on top of each other- so much space and headroom.

I came from the RC300, but was still a lot of work to get my head around even setting up as before, but worth it in the end. Particularly useful to the way I loop are the 4banks of 4 effects which I can now preset for each song, and scroll through with a foot pedal with so many fewer clicks than previously.

Okay, slightly weird what floats the boat of a looper, I know. but, less clicks! Also loving that I can assign 3 of the 4 effects to my violin (INST in) and 1 to my MIC in. Didn’t think I’d be bothered by the 3 extra loops, but now I’ve less effect clicking to do I’m finding that loops 4-6 do get used, and arrangements are getting more varied.

It’s also physically smaller, and saved me taking extra pedals – really important and so damn useful for me, when travelling. A fabulous piece of kit. PS: I’m also so enjoying the 6 outputs, too – it’s solved a long-standing mic and inst out of the same output dilemma.

This two track looper is easy to use and the switches click-in on the one beat accurately. Nice choice of rhythms, although the 10R and RC-600 feature more rhythms from the drum machine. I use a Lehle P-split III in front of the unit in the pedal chain to obtain a direct out to my amp to free up output A and output B of the looper (assignable).

I send output A to one dedicated track and output B another dedicated track, with A having rhythm/drum sounds and B having recorded loops. This way I have three independent tracks. I send live guitar from the Lehle direct out to my amp.

Output A and B from the looper I send to a Headrush powered speaker. If you need more outputs, the RC-600 has this and IRs. Naturally, there is no need for the Lehle and sending the tracks in different directions.

Live guitar, recorded loops, and drums can all be sent (default) out of output A into an amp. Powerful unit, great sound quality. It has buffered bypass, but all signals are AD/DA to the outputs. Using the Lehle splitter preserves the analog signal chain.

The sound quality is crystal clear on this unit regardless of how the routing is used. Nice job Boss!.

Im switching from a TC Electronics Delay x4 to the Eccos. The Eccos takes up far less pedalboard space and the tape-flange-modulation is a new color to explore. (I have other dedicated loopers, so its unlikely I will use the looper potion of the Eccos pedal.

). Sound quality is exceptional. I will miss the TCs reverse delay. but maybe Keeley will add it in an update? Love the stereo functionality. Now. what goes in all that pedalboard space Ive opened up?.

The more you play with it the better it gets. Bought it for the flanged delay (can get John McGeoch sounds with it) & going series or parallel but the looper and reverse functions are great. reversing phrases just sounds so much cooler than reversed delay.

For a pretty standard pedal size it does a LOT !.

Great sounding delay, i also have a belle epoch, and it compares favorable to that. I wish the looper had a stop switch without having to bend down to switch out of the delay mode just to push stop. So it is not a live performance pedal.

But great ambient soundscapes to be had. Recommend.

It’s a lot of looper, more than I needed at the time. Big too. Like another wing of your pedalboard big. Really makes you tap dance. Too much for me. Anyway. Because it was a lot of money new and was still in like new condition, it should be worth a bit, right? Not here.

The price was disappointing to even their employees. They suggested selling it somewhere else, repeatedly. They had time because this process took forever. Each time though I insisted we press on. I should have listened.

But I had been there for at least an hour by then. It was like buying a car, and I fell into time/cost sunk thinking and let them have it for less than a new rc3 at the time. At least I could see on their faces that the employees had genuine empathy for the flogging I was taking at their own hands.

Maybe you should shop somewhere else, definitely sell. I will.

As a still semi young bass player of 20 years and live musician of 12 years I’ve only non looping for two years. And knew very little about the format and fun looping could provide. But through some research on a great site American music supply, I found the boss rc300 looping station and fell in love with product.

It’s understandable format setup makes it easy to use right out of the box and with full book included any Q&A is right at your fingertips. It has three separate tracks with their own separate volume control and settings options.

So you can one-shot all or loop all tracks or one-shot them all or set a separate track or two, to just be a one shot track. There are many great features to the boss rc300 I enjoy. I would highly recommend this product to all musicians who had an interest in looping.

Incredibly versatile and full of features. I use this in unison with an RC 505 and the sky is the limit. No looper does what this machine does and my boundaries are beyond my capabilities at this point.

If you’re looking to expand your ability to get ideas out and write music, this looper is it. I’ve had other loopers and although they functioned well they were not even remotely capable of the RC 300.

Out for a few years now and still as relevant as ever, adding this pedal system to your music inventory is a solid move.

When you’re looking at loop devices there are certain considerations you must make that suit what you want to use the device for. I have only had the RC30 a short time but here are my initial impressions; For me, I needed something that could run efficiently on batteries (some of the older ‘sampling/delay’ pedals I had back in the 80’s could destroy a brand new PP3 battery in an hour) I also needed the ability to save loops (catered for here by a USB output) and something that could be used easily in a live situation.

It achieves most of this; the battery life is impressive and the save and load functions have all worked well so far. Ease of use is maybe the one area that it has shortfalls. Now I do not blame Roland/Boss for this, as with other pieces of kit they have crammed so many features in that many of the switches/buttons have different functions according to what everything else is doing.

The fact is that this is not a ‘point and squirt’ type pedal you have to learn how to use it to get the best out of it. I have spent some time and so far have had some good results but I am not yet confident on using this in a live situation as I have to decide whether to add one or two external switches for control and I need to know exactly what is going to happen depending onwhat mode I am in.

As I say, you have to know what everything else is doing to know how the pedal functions are going to work, you have to know what recording mode you are in and you have to know how the external switches are going to do and it’s not always as obvious as I would like.

I am enjoying it and the potential for my solo act is immense and I’m sure that this pedal is going to become an important part of my live sound, but as I say this is not something you can just plug in and use without spending some time with.

Very easy to use and built like a tank. I had to watch a few demo videos to learn how the controls worked and interacted but it didn’t take but a few minutes. Playback quality is very good with tons of storage for created loops.

My only issue is with what Boss calls “Drum Tracks”. There’s only 10 of them and their sound quality is piercing. You can load your own via the usb connection though. Also, it only stores wav files from external sources so converting songs you only have as mp3 etc.

to wav is an extra step I could do without. I might just be nitpicking because otherwise it’s a great looper with more features than most people will ever need. I’d highly recommend it to anyone.

I’m a beginning guitar player and a loop station was recommended by my teacher to use while practicing. I read the reviews of several popular loop stations and all of them had pro’s and con’s. I chose the Boss because of it’s popularity and Boss’ pedal reputation.

I chose the RC-3 since it is more versatile than the RC-1. I read the manual and watched several YouTube videos on how to set it up and use it. So far the only problem I’ve had is that when I import backing tracks from the Boss Tone Central app (Windows PC) the backing tracks play fine but my guitar overdub can’t be heard when I play the loop.

I Google- searched for others that may have had the same problem but no luck. Also, I can’t find any help online or by phone from Boss products. However, it works fine for playing along as the imported track is played.

By the way, I have no problem overdubbing my own guitar-created tracks. Hopefully I’ll be able to solve the issue in the future.

IšverstiShow in original languagePerfect for practicing. Lay down a simple rhythm loop then you can practice over the top – it’s like having an inexhaustible rhythm guitarist jamming with you. Easy overdubs & undos means you can also build up interesting sounds with lots of depth and different sounds.

(tip: play your progression through, then without stopping hit the button on the ‘one’ beat to start recording, then hit it again on another ‘one’ beat to stop recording/start playing the loop. can be as many bars long as you like – 5 min recording time is way more than I’d ever need!) With only one button and one volume knob it’s very simple to use.

Many other loopers are so complicated (boss rc-3 I’m looking at you), they take the fun out of just plugging in and jamming. Of course if you need the complication of a drum machine built in to your looper pedal then this one isn’t for you).

The sound out of this thing is perfect. I use it with many pedals and they all sound great recorded and played back (an analog delay, a few fuzzes, metal zone, overdrive, distortion, phaser, big muffs, small clone, tube screamer) – just be sure to put the looper last in your pedal chain.

I’d highly recommended this to anyone thinking about getting a looper. The build quality is great, the button feels sturdy & it’s very small. The only thing I’d change about it would be to add the ability to export your recorded loop via the usb, but on this model the usb is only for updating it’s firmware.

I think the more expensive ditto loopers have this function. but overall I think it’s the best pedal I’ve ever owned!.

I use one for lead on full (The stereo one) and one to just thicken the sound of chords at 1/3 setting with an electric guitar The Mini).

An immense sounding, feature packed device. This looper will improve your workflow and creativity from day one. I have been using it with my synths, bass guitar and acoustic guitar to make a variety of different genres of music, from synth-pop to classical.

I’m experimenting with vocals, something I have never tried before and even for someone with no vocal training at all you can use the fx on the MKII to add depth and presence to your voice. The creative possibilities are endless and exploring them is so much fun.

I highly recommend the MKII for anyone interested in music production or live performing.

This looper is great for making music right away. Plug in a guitar and a mic and you can be your own band. I also feel like it’s pretty easy to learn. Things I don’t like: flimsy volume faders, plasticity connections on the back and I feel like when you’re live it’s hard to control the volume of each loop.

Also having trouble with the mic picking up everything I’m doing. All about I’m satisfied with my Looper.

Had great fun with this looper! It has so many instrument and mic inputs I was easily able to build a track with a friend where we could record vocals to ukulele to synths with ease. It has a lot of effects built in that just help elevate vocals especially.

If you are on your own I’d recommend getting a trigger pedal to record instruments where you need both hands.

I use this with a mixer output, into a channel for playback and I get perfect volume output with this. If you just plug an instrument into it and then to an amp the volume can be an issue for some. It is an affordable introduction to looping.

So far it has worked pretty good. If I was going to really work with one for a live situation might look for a better one thou. You do not get a power supply with it so you have to consider this when buying cause your gonna need one if you don’t have it.

Standard 9volt pedal supply. Still a good value for now, time will tell if it keeps ticking.

You can’t beat this for the price. I think that a couple of the reviews cut into this too much. It is small, it works and I love it. I can practice putting tunes together, I can layer guitar and bass tracks, add in the vocals and some other effects with a mic and download it directly into a computer or other storage device.

There is some sound degradation issues as you put down multiple overdubs but not enough to be complaining about. (I think one of the reviewers thought this would sound like a recording studio) A little work on your input recording levels and a good sound is obtainable.

It does require a separate power supply, but that’s no problem for a daisy chain or pedalboard user. (“PEDALS FOR IDIOTS” would tell you that If you are looking at mini pedals don’t expect to put a battery in one, they don’t fit) It does everything it is supposed too, I have had mine for over a year and haven’t tired of using it to work on new parts.

Why pay attention to this review? I’ve been playing for over 50 years.

I bought one of these 2 years ago and it works very well, except for the USB connection to PC. Driver needs to be downloaded from their site, but many reviews warn that it will permanently mess up the looper.

Ammoon has never replied to my questions. Instructions are very confusing but if you work with it you can understand how it works. Unit doesn’t add any noise or distortion that I can hear, and the Level knob controls balance between input signal and the loops.

Great for practicing and working scales and harmonies. So easy to quickly record a part and then play along, or add another part. Record what you played for a whole song and then listen to it. Add backing parts to play over live.

Can only “undo” the most recent overdub, very common in under $100 loopers. Needs 100 mA power, I recommend a Snark or 1-Spot. Check reviews from more recent purchasers to see if Ammoon has lowered their quality.

The one I bought in 2018 is good.

I truly love the design of this product, don’t get me wrong. But the dedicated stop switch is lacking. You have to double tap the stop to truly stop the loop, otherwise it plays until the end of the loop phrase and THEN stops.

For a pedal advertised as “the guitarists looper” it seems more geared towards being midi synced with a sequencer, which is great if you overlook the fact most guitarists are unfamiliar with midi and are usually uninterested in using drum machines and sequencers.

As a veteran looper, I realize the biggest problem is making loops on time. I’ve gotten pretty good at looping on time, but the occasional live screw up is still pretty hard to avoid l. With my boss rc20 I would simply record the entire verse, press stop instead of play when I get to the chorus, and solo over the verse after the chorus section, effectively avoiding off time loops altogether by never reaching the actual end of the phrase where the sort of “sound seam” of a loop is, which is always totally noticable if you’re not perfectly on time.

With the Ditto x4 it instead of incorporating a true dedicated stop, Tc electronics assumed everybody has a metronome sequenced to their looper and designed the stop to work such as that of a sequencer.

This is a pretty unbelievablly stupid move in my opinion,considering this pedal is geared towards guitarists, not EDM DJs. I’m not your average guitarist, so I actually am interested in its midi applications.

I’m not saying it isn’t a neat idea to have midi sync on a pedal, but the pedal shouldn’t revolve around that feature. I’ve been working on finding ways around the lack of a true dedicated stop, like getting good at double tapping on time.

Pretty annoying to have to do when the thing has four buttons. Also, they should have made one of the effects simply a dedicated “undo” function. But the design? Perfect. Perhaps they could issue a software update to fix some of the bugs.

I would be really happy with TC Electronics I’d they did.

Bought midi controlled x4 looper with BeatBuddy. Practice will never be a dull metronome again. Beat Buddy keeps things in sync. 2 channel looper has adding rhythm, bass, guitar harmonies, most anything else you can think of easy.

Playback is exactly what was recorded with no coloration / noise. Beats and loops can be uploaded to computer, edited, and downloaded for playback. Number of free on-line loops and beats already available.

Amazing 1 person can sound like a full band all from the convenience of pedal devices. Played in a couple of cover bands when I was young, nothing serious. Now in my 60’s I’m finding time to play again.

Pedal chain: Korg multi-effects, Fender AB switch, Ditto x4, BeatBuddy. I’m a happy camper.

This is a good looper. Two loops that can be chained. Can play back your own tracks, etc. TC Electronic promised some eagerly sought MIDI capabilities but then backpedaled. As the pedal has been out a couple of years and this has still not been fixed, I assume that it has to do with the chip and not with the firmware.

If you want to use this as a standard looper, it will do a great job but it you want to take advantage of all sorts of advanced MIDI capabilities – which this pedal should have been able to handle – look elsewhere.

I really like it. Works as intended and the price is great. I just have to learn the timing on when I step on it to record to when I stop recording for playback so it falls in-time and doesn’t leave gaps.

The three toggle switch to record different parts is a great feature. I just got it a few weeks ago so I need more time to play with it with regards to the other features such as the USB but I really like it.

Will help me when I’m trying to figure out solos and eventually I’d like to use it at a live gig, but the timing process has a learning curve. Construction is solid and the pedal has a small footprint on my pedal board.

Great product!.

Beware, the Volume control on this looper controls not only the loop volume, but also the live guitar volume, so it is impossible to lower the loop volume and easily hear what you play over the top of the loop.

The only work-around I could think of (lowering the guitar volume control while making the loop) was not acceptable. I’ve used other looper pedals; on all of them the volume control is for the loop alone.

So, I can’t recommend this looper as it functions right now, and I returned mine for a refund (handled very promptly by MP). Note that the unit seems solidly built, apparent build quality seemed no different from something you might pay 2x more for, and if this volume control issue was corrected, it would be a great value.

This looper has more capability (recording time) at a better price than other available loopers that I have seen. It is also relatively straight forward to use, as I read the directions when I first plugged it in.

The documentation has a nice table that explains the mode and led status with each button press. I have no prior experience with loopers so following the table and trying it out at the same time got me up to speed.

The only difficulty for me was getting the looper to stop. Stop is a “double-click”. If I release the switch completely trying to get 2 fast presses it usually cycles between record and playback. If I don’t release the switch completely trying to get a double-click the end result would be just a single press when the switch is released.

I finally could get it to stop after playing with it and getting used to it. It is a bit tricky on the timing to get 2 switch presses to stop the looper. Overall, this is a fun pedal to use. You can practice, play along with yourself, record and overdub, save your best stuff, etc.

I highly recommend this looper pedal.

Still new to me, but was very easy to use right out of the box. I wish it came with a printed Owners Manual (instead of an online PDF that is difficult to print at a readable size), but this isn’t a problem with the product—just a general gripe.

Online generic manuals are being used for everything now. I really like the lit wheel in terms of giving a visual depiction of the loop length and where you are within the loop. Again, still very new to me and I still need to spend some time with it to really understand all of its function, but so far am very pleased.

It was worth the purchase.

IšverstiShow in original languageIf you’re toying with the idea of buying one just do it. I wish I had bought one years ago. Surprisingly easy to use and adds another dimension to solo playing. It’s great for just messing around, lay down a rhythm loop, bass loop, add as many layers and improvise over the top.

I also use it a lot for practicing scales to something more interesting than a metronome! Love the multiple track feature and the ability to save loops to the pedal’s memory card for future use. Works great with a microphone at the same time as the guitar, and love the built in drum function.

Not sure why the effects are built in, they seem like a bit of an afterthought and they’re not great quality. The only down side is there is no included power supply. I picked one up for about 10, it works OK with the supplied batteries but I prefer to plug in.

The looper is great fun, but not too easy to synchronise. Hopefully after a lot of practice I’ll get it to work properly. The secret is to not give up and don’t blame the machine.

IšverstiShow in original languageI would recommend buying the DigiTech JML2 JamMan instead of the RC-30. I just purchased an RC-30 and played with it fairly extensively for a couple weeks before deciding to return it and get the JamMan.

This is obviously a review of the RC-30, but I’m going to compare it to the JamMan for features. Places the JamMan has an edge: 1. You are able to switch back and forth between different phrases seamlessly.

The RC-30’s biggest downfall is a 1/4 second or so lag that occurs when you switch between different phrases. The newest firmware updates have not made this go away. Because of the lag, the RC-30 is almost unusable in live applications.

2. When purchased with the Digitech FS3X footswitch (which only cost me $14. 95), the JamMan has 7 different control buttons providing much easier hands free control than the RC-30 which has a max of 4 switches when used in conjunction with the Boss FS-6, which is also much more expensive than the Digitech footswitch.

The Boss forces you to double tap switches or hold them down for two seconds (changes phrases requires a 2 second hold down even if you have an FS-6). 3. The JamMan allows for real time tap tempo changes while the loop is playing.

The RC-30 only allows tempo changes when stopped and the phrase must have been previously saved. 4. The JamMan has an instrument in volume level and the RC-30 does not. This makes mixing instruments, loops, mics, and rhythms easier on the JamMan.

5. Cost is less, even with the additional FS3X. Also the Digitech comes with a power supply (does not run on batteries) while the Boss does not come with a power supply (it does run on batteries though) and is the right power supply that doesn’t cause the unit to buzz is an additional $15-25 depending on where you buy it.

Places the RC-30 has an edge: 1. Two looping channels with each phrase. The user can layer a couple elements on one channel and then switch to the other (while the first is still running) and lay more elements down then stop the first set, etc.

This is actuallly pretty difficult to do with only 4 pedal buttons (and that assumes you have an FS-6). It should also be noted that the two channels must be the same length. 2. Additional recording time on the RC-30 (3hrs vs.

JamMan’s 35min). Both allow transfer to computer via USB though for unlimited storage. The JamMan can have additional storage with bigger memory card though. The RC-30 doesn’t use a memory card. The computer storage for both units is somewhat annoying and time consuming.

3. Loop FX on RC-30. The only effect on the JamMan is reversing the loop (RC-30 doesn’t do this). I actually found the Loop FX to be less than spectacular but others may disagree with me. Personally, I’d much rather have a reverse function.

4. Mic input on RC-30 has phantom power. Overall I much prefer the JamMan over the RC-30 if for no other reason than the fact that it’s usable in a live setting because there’s no phrase switching lag.

Neither unit seems to noticeably alter my tone – and I’m a tone freak so that’s something I listen for and care about a lot. I’ve owned lots of Boss effects and many have been great but you shouldn’t buy this pedal simply because it’s made by Boss.

Compare the features and choose what’s most important for you.

I bought the JamMan Stereo unit about a month ago to store backing tracks to trigger for live performances. I didn’t buy it to do live looping, although I am having a lot of fun with that at home. Makes practicing so much more fun, enjoyable, and way more productive.

So far so good. All functions on the unit work great. Easy to use. Not hard at all. Sound quality is very good. Great tool for any guitarist. BTW – below is how I finally figured out how to import wav files into the JM Stereo.

The JamManager software is dreadful (to be kind). Good luck! 1. You can import stereo wav files into the Jamman (they don’t have to be Mono despite online info) 2. Open up mp3 file in Wavasaur app (or whatever mp3-to-wav file app you like), and save the file as stereo, 16 bit, 44.

1Khz wav file. Name the file whatever name you want with a. wav extension. 3. In JamManager app, do File “Add to Library”, or just drag the wav file into the Library folder 4. In JamManager app, copy/paste the wav file from Library folder to Internal storage folder (using Menu – Edit – Copy/Paste works better than rt clicking on the file.

at least for me). 5. Once you have the wav file imported into the Jamman unit at a specific internal memory Loop # location, you can then use the Jamman unit (NOT the JamManager app) to copy that Loop to a Loop # on your external memory card (then delete the Loop from your internal memory to free up space in the internal storage).

I needed a looper for performing. I am in an acoustic duo and I use the looper to provide either lead or rhythm parts during songs. Some songs require several looped parts during the song and I need to be able to switch between loops as I play the song.

This looper allows me to do that for the most part. The only limitation is when you switch between loops, it is not instantaneous; there will be a lapse of time as the new loop loads. For most songs, if you plan ahead, this is not a problem.

Since this looper comes with the capacity to store 35 minutes of loops, I can cover all of the songs we do during our performance. Some people have commented that the foot switches on the unit are “klunky” and emit a loud mechanical clicking sound when depressed.

I tend to agree with them but the clicking sound is not something your audience will hear while you’re playing. As far as klunky goes, I disagree. The foot switches are mechanical ones, not plunger actuators like the switches you’d find on Ditto loopers, and I find that if you have a heavy foot like me, they work better.

You can hit these foot switches really hard and they don’t fail to actuate. I’ve had many failures with the foot switches on the Ditto brand looper; even to the point where the switch mechanism broke inside the pedaland could not be fixed.

So, all in all, this is the best looper I’ve used so far. If you do have a song where you must have to instantaneously switch loops, you can do as I do and just run another looper. I have an Electro-Harmonix 720 looper that I use in conjunction with my Jam Man and there is not a looping situation that I can’t do.

For what this pedal does, its pretty small and I like how they staggered the height of the 4 buttons. The sound it records for looping is high quality. Its blue so it looks cool too. Its got a nice drum beat that is great for solo stuff if your a guitar or bassist flying alone.

My favorite use for it is to use it to write guitar solos in original material. Is expandable and will hold a remarkable amount of music. Its quick to recall. You can sent the drum/click directly to the drummer if you play live with one.

Then he stays in time with the loop which is always the inherent problem with loop pedals. For impromptu jams its incredible. Its easy to recall programs and you can add more memory by using a larger flash memory card.

Its tough, made of metal and after over a year and a half of use it seems to be pretty durable. The drawbacks are the same typical kind you find with complicated multi effects pedals. The instructions are ridiculous and extremely basic.

The online support is not set up well and all this adds up to an extreme learning curve for actually utilizing all the things this monster looper can do. I would recommend it to people who are tech savvy (not me) but still warn them that they’ll want to spend some time online watching how-to videos and then just messing with the pedal.

It takes a while to figure it all out.

This actually works excellent. BUT, look up specs of 1440 first. as. I am upgrading to the 1440. as the one shot button, and double length recording time. I really need. Sound is excellent. Should be very last pedal in effects loop.

Then, all sound and effects will be recorded, AND, your overdubs can have 100%, its own sound (channel, effects, volume). I have all front end drive effects on EHX silencer looped. My effects loop pedals are also on a EHX silencer, in it’s loop.

Zero background idle noise, with amp master volume at 3 O’clock. and channel volumes at 3 O’clock. I adjust actual volume with an Ernie Ball 25kOhm VPjr, at the end of the effects loop, after the EHX silencer, output.

For the unit I received, I would only hear playback if the volume level was turned up to around 75% or higher on the unit; less than that, nothing. even with any of the amps or speakers I’d plug this into, turned up.

I’ve tried recording it at different levels but still the same result with needing to crank it up for playback. But this may have been a defect on this unit. As for recording, you must be wary of the number of minutes/seconds available to record, because you only have 12 mins and it is divided among the number of banks (out of 10) that you’re going to use (e.

g. if you record a 2min loop in one bank, you will have 10mins left to share among the rest of the 9 free banks; and then if you record, say a 5min loop on another bank, you’ll have 5mins left for the remaining 8 banks).

Overdubbing on any one bank is unlimited though and does not use any additional memory. You can also undo/redo the last overdub if you didn’t like it. Now it’s a bit tricky getting the timing of your “stomp” precise to where it would playback seamlessly.

There is a noticeable gap between the end and beginning of the loop during playback (apparently a common complaint/issue from other online sources). The switch is pretty high and that may contribute to its difficulty of getting a seamless loop.

After several attempts, you can easily go from being excited to get home and practice on a loop to being demotivated and annoyed. Guitar Center is awesome with their return policy, and I had no trouble returning the unit.

Well, I went ahead and got a Jam Man solo XT instead which has more bang for the buck because of features like 10mins of loop time PER bank (it has, i think, 99 banks available), expandable memory with a microSD, can connect to computer via USB.

It has NO GAP between the loops due to the lower profile switch/pedal so no loss in motivation at all, you just wanna keep on playing! I also wanna mention that the XT was $10 cheaper at the time of this review.

Never looked back :).

Absolutely a fantastic all-around looper with great sound. After trying out two budget loopers (Joyo D-Seed II & a Donner triple looper), neither of which sounded near this good, I realized I should have spent the extra money to buy this unit first.

Also simple to use and ten loop memory. Perhaps only two minor drawbacks: 720 max seconds total for all loops in all 10 memory slots (although 12 minutes is more than enough for my uses). Also, stereo jacks are positioned so close to one another, too close for pancake head patch cables (which are needed for my pedalboard, probably b/c I’ve got too many units).

but then again, how many is too many? For the money, this is a fantastic stereo looper all around.

Really good looper. Typically I’m hesitant to use non try bypass pedals but the buffered bypass does not affect the tone too much. Reasons I bought the pedal are the separate stop button (coming from a one button looper) and the Midi sync.

I want to be able to start and stop loops from Cubase to be able to quickly record ideas/tunes. I’m able to get starts/stop commands from my daw to the pedal via Midi however the result is very warbly (midi jitter?).

I contacted EXH and they responded this is a known issue that should be resolved in a future firmware update (no timeframe provided). A feature I really like is “fade” where you can set multiple length fade endings which come into effect after pressing the stop button, a much more musical way then stopping abruptly! The memory slots are handy too.

Overall good sounding pedal with nice useful features. I’m just frustrated that the Midi sync does not work well yet.

I decided to buy this pedal yesterday, and I’m super thrilled with it. I was going to buy the boss rc-1 cause it’s the most popular, but I ended up going with the EH pedal instead. Its functions are simple and intuitive.

The effect itself is straightforward, loops up to 12 individual parts. I believe it’s also analog as far as electrical components go. What more could you ask for? Note: place it at the end of your Effect pedal loop for best results.

There’s not many reviews on this so I thought I’d add mine. The pros of this unit are it’s small, it runs on 9V power like most other pedals, it saves several different loops so you don’t always have to re-record a part you like to practice over (it’s the only looper in this price range that does that), it has 24 bit playback, and it’s super easy to use (I figured it out without instructions).

The cons are small in my opinion, but they include you are limited to a total of 6 minutes of loops (but you can either have 1 X 6 minute loop, or 10 X 36 second loops, or any combination of time and loops that add up to 6 minutes so not much of a con in my opinion), there are no additional features (such as a drum machine, metronome, or speed control), and there is no way to save a million loops and transfer them to a computer.

Some negatives from other reviews I was able to overcome include the volume of the loop being lower than when you first play it is solved by the loop level knob (I was always able to get my loop level as loud or louder than my source signal), the apparent pause as the loop starts over is overcome by working on timing (once I figured out when to hit the foot switch I was able to create seamless loops).

I researched loopers and this one had the features I wanted (small size, low power consumption, ability to save loops, 24 bit play back and easy to use). Other features you may want to consider not on this looper is the drum machine, metronome, ability to play half speed or backwards, and ability to save loops on your computer and transfer onto the looper (all of which are absent from this unit).

Really great to get this so quickly, I love MF service! So this loper has high end EH sound quality, totally transparent. Easy level control makes it easy to get playback (loop) and live signal volumes adjusted.

It is also easy to fit into any board with it’s standard size. There are, however, some issues you should be aware of. On and off functions require single, and multiple taps on the switch. While playing you tap once to start recording a loop.

A second single tap begins an immediate replay of the loop. Very cool! If you want to delay the beginig of the loop (such as you recorded the chorus, and need to play the verse again before using the loop) you must double-tap the switch.

Awkward for me. I never was a dancer. The second issue is common to all loopers, but I did not consider this prior to using it. This concept is perfect for single channel amps with only outboard effects.

With a plexi or bandmaster it is flawless. With a multi channel amp or effects. You record a loop during a rhythm portion of the song on channel scratch with no reverb, punch the button, switch to the overdrive channel with reverb for the lead!!!! NO! Now both signals will be overdrive and reverb.

Common to all loopers, but something to note prior to set-up. As long as this is “last in line” effects wise and you use a single channel during playback, it works perfectly. Other issues to be aware of include it must be powered to pass signal.

No passive operation is available. To switch loops you must bend down to the pedal board, awkward. Six minutes divided into eleven loops means around 32 seconds per loop if you try to use them all. Limited.

I can not say enough about this looper. Once you really study the manual, this thing is a breeze to use. So many options! One time I was doing things in “forward mode”, then I put those layers in reverse to record a solo.

I then played the tracks in forward again, and voila, a trippy backwards Guitar solo. The Drums make it so much more fun to play with this looper than loopers without them. Run this into your mixer into a bus and then bring your loops in as much or little as you want.

The 22500 is just a great looper period. Last year, this pedal was 1/10th less expensive than it is now and with the rising costs of everything, now is the time to get the gear that you want and need.

For the money, this looper reigns supreme!.

This is my first experience with a dedicated looper pedal and I am very pleased with it. EHX has been on my board for a while and this thing will probably be a mainstay for a long time to come. Super useful and fun to use and has a minimal foot print so it doesn’t take up too much space on the board.

Keep in mind that due to the fact that the left and right channels are completely independent from one another, if you record a loop thru the LEFT channel, that loop will only play back if it’s hooked up thru the LEFT channel.

For example when I got this pedal I immediately plugged it in to the practice amp at home and I had it plugged into the left channel and made a few loops. I later brought the pedal onto my main pedal board and hooked it up thru the right channel and those first loops I made would not play back.

I hooked it up thru the left channel and bingo-bango the loops played back! Just something to be aware of. I was confused and emailed ehx and they promptly responded and let me know what the deal was.

There is a minor learning curve but nothing ridiculous. I do believe this pedals functionality will improve with the optional foot switch to cue up presets without kneeling down so I plan to pick one of those up eventually.

The one main knob navigation thru options and settings will take some slight getting used to but it is perfectly useable and intuitive in how it’s organized. Sound quality is great, feature set is excellent for my purposes.

I intend on using it to cue up samples and to use my pedalboard “as an instrument” creating soundscape and ambient sounds which the reverse and octave functions will help that along nicely. Also as a practice/writing tool to play over loops to jam around on.

Overall, this pedal is exceptionally fun to use, useful, well designed and as a long time ehx fan I expected it to be an awesome, high quality pedal and I was not disappointed in the least. Great looper and I definitely recommend it.

Once I start messing with it it’s hard to stop tinkering lol.

After reading the manual before use, I was amazed at the amount of features, including multi-track looping. It took about 15 minutes to learn the menu top cycle through the modes and mode values. -there is a selector dial to access all the functions, and the only annoying issue was that the instructions were a little vague on it.

However, the instructions are fairly clear on the mode features. There is sufficient memory allowing 12 hours of loop time, built-in drum loops and the ability to imbed internal rhythms in loops. Creating my first basic loop with guitar was fairly effortless.

More advanced features simply require more trial and error and time, but the manual is fairly concise in this regard. An interesting feature is the ability to import. wav files into the device which have been modified by audio software such as audacity creating custom loops.

I use the linux operating system and the looper file system was recognized and I could simply drop and drag audio files directly into the loopers memory. The device will take up to a 32GB card giving you 48 hours of recording time.

Another feature is their excellent tech support- before purchasing the product I called the support with some specific questions. Without any wait, an audio engineer got on the phone and answered all my questions which gave me confidence to buy the product.

The quality of support is important to me in deciding whether to purchase. So no oversees support with undecipherable accents- the company is in NYC USA. All in all, a great product with lots of expensive features at an affordable price, excellent techsupport and fairly easy to understand manual.

MXR gear is always good quality. For my first looper pedal it looked like a good choice. Maybe I should have given five stars, but in common with many digital pedals it’s the way one has to operate them by using the few controls in multiple ways that winds me up.

Short taps and long taps of the footswitches – which are fairly close together – and pushing down on the volume knob for additional functions mean you have to read and then re-read the instructions. Actually the manual has to be downloaded from their website.

It’s not about saving paper because there is a generic manual (guitar plugs in at the right side, lead to amp plugs in at the left) in a booklet containing more languages than I can identify. By the way, the pedal itself does exactly what it should and sound quality is great.

It came with a power supply (wall wart) that is so light it must be a switched mode one, but I couldn’t detect the high pitched noise that some of those cause, so I’m not going to moan about that. This may read a bit negatively, but overall I’m impressed.

I haven’t used many looper pedals, but I’ve wanted one for a long time. I have researched a few, but I was always hesitant to purchase for one reason or another- too expensive, too complicated, break easily, or malfunction for no reason.

I am a fan of MXR pedals, so I was intrigued when I saw that MXR was coming out with a looper. So I pulled the trigger without even trying one out first. I’m super happy with the purchase so far. It’s very easy to use and a lot of fun.

I gave it four stars because some players might feel it doesn’t have enough features, but it has plenty to keep me happy without destroying my daughter’s college fund. I haven’t tried the options available if I hook up my tap tempo or an expression pedal, but I’m confident that that will just add to the fun.

For my first looper, I think this one will keep me happy for a long time. I have some other brands of pedals that have been a little disappointing, but that has never been the case with any of my MXR pedals.

Very quiet, did not add any unwanted noise, and comes with a 9v adapter.

I first thought loopers were gimmick when I learned about them but after watching some videos, I thought they would be pretty useful. I purchased a decent single button unit but had a hard time controlling the playback and recording.

The MXR looper has the ability to operate each independently. It has lots of other features as well.
