David Barton has the largest collection of original documents from our great forefathers. His books are about the contents of his documents. Its not a right or left leaning book. It merely presents the facts from his documents (original journals, books, letters, minutes from meetings, etc.

P Wilson took all black history out of his rewritten history books. Wilson also brought the KKK into the White House. Bartons book tells the truth about Americas great black history.

This book tells American History the way it happened and the way it used to be taught. Now history is being taught as Historical Fiction to cover up those who have always been racist and caused the civil war, hoping to perpetuate slavery.

That same faction formed the KKK to punish blacks and keep them from claiming their Constitutional Rights, as given to people of all colors, in 1788.

David Barton is the real deal. He works tirelessly to resesrch the subject matter he is writing on, in this case, the magnificent, often lost history, of African-Americans in this nations history. You will learn about people hidden from view, but we wouldn’t all be here without them.

OK, warning, this is a very hard book to read because it displays the horribleness of humanity. In this book, rich white people are the tyrants, and perhaps whites can be evil in different ways that other races, but I’m quite sure all men in power from whatever races can be horrible.

I used to wonder why the US government broke all 300+ treaties they made with the Indians. The ‘law’ was used just as effectively to take advantage of whites with no land, servants, and poor farmers.

And it goes without saying, black slaves. I can only read a chapter at a time, before putting it down and being disgusted that I am human, then trying to figure how/why people get so bad. I’m retired, taught college & middle school, this book is an essential read for any history buff/teacher.

Also read “1491” by Charles Mann for the history before Columbus. Its much more fun.

It’s a very well-known and informative book on an angle of American history that’s often not taught in American schools. It’s basically a list of battles in the war between the ruling class and the poor throughout the history of America, from Colombus’s genocide of the Arawak people to the protests against George W.

Bush’s War Of, excuse me, On Terror. It’s a whole lot of strikes, protests, slave revolts, and how the ruling class fights back with bullets, spying, and turning the poor against the poor.

If you’re a rah, rah ‘Murica!! type of person, you’ll hate this book, although you need to read it more than most people, to develop some perspective on our country. I had heard about it for years but never had a copy.

I have read through about 1/4 of it so far. Zinn’s perspective is always taken from the the standpoint of the people that are doing the suffering for whatever “progress” or event is being described, (for example: Native Americans, or Black Slaves, or working class people) so is not always particularly positive, or pleasant.

History and mind control propaganda are akin. this book will help you to be aware we get a skewed perspective from the powers that be.

Fascinating. Horrific. Until I read this book I didn’t realize how devastating this storm was. I am thankful the weather service now has instruments that will keep people informed of hurricanes days before they hit land.

Bought this book to read aloud to my husband as is our favorite pastime. Started yesterday and are already halfway through. Thought it would be an easy story but the content is so much more! The characters are far reaching and so many involved.

We will probably finish the book today. Looking forward to reading more from Erik Larson.

I’ve enjoyed reading many of Erik Larson’s books. Each one has given me a deeper, and appreciative look at history through his well researched narratives. And he has done so with “Isaac’s Storm”. I can’t say enough how well he tells a story from more than 100 years ago.

I kept turning the pages. He is an amazing author. This hurricane story is no ordinary story. It is incredible and worth reading.

This book is essential reading for Americans and others who want to have a clear idea of how the U. S. started down the path of colonialism and how the country continues to hold on to worldwide power and influence without necessarily holding on to territory.

Clearly and compellingly written—history buffs will be enthralled—even amused. I never knew guano (bird droppings) was so essential to agriculture (before artificial fertilizers were invented). The search for it led our country to seize many otherwise barren islands in far flung regions of the world.

It’s well written on an interesting aspect of U. S. history often overlooked in this day and age. Read it, and one will understand why the rest of the world doesn’t always agree that American intervention in foreign lands necessarily means we have as an objective the installation of a democratic regime.

On the other hand, the author also describes how the U. S. moved away from its venture into foreign colonialism into a different form of foreign involvement.

One oif the most informative books ever. This is a must-read book for anyone interested in USA- and in world history. It is very well written and the research behind it is impressive. This is a book that you want to recommend to many of your friends.

Second read; so much information organized to understand our nation. It’s a tome but you can’t put it down. History to be proud of. Not perfect but striving.

like a college course on the history of America. If you have any interest, this book is well worth your time. Amazing that a person could write a book this complete.

Johnson has written several outstanding books, including this one. His research and perspective (he is British) are excellent.

This book is OK, but what I do see lacking is no mention of Democrat’s pro-slavery platform. If anything, the writer must be a Democrat because he skirts around the issue and, instead, manages to tell us how the Republican Free-Soil States really had an underlying racial component and rather or not most Americans supported the Radical Restorationist Republicans.

The only place where Democrats are mentioned are on pages 46-47 and he mentions nothing of the pro-slavery Democrats: No one is without sin over the course of history, but the omission of Democrat culpability is blatantly obvious in this book.

I would have thought a Politically Incorrect Guide would have brought at least some of this up, but Democrats are protected in this book just as they are in the mainstream media.

Recorded history is bound to be skewed. If you thought Macarthy was right, or that LBJ was not all that wonderful, then this book is for you. Most history books seem to paint a picture that is so accepted by all as truth that it makes it into our dictionaries like the word Macarthyism.

Maybe it was taken too far. But in the end, the list did exist. Read Ann Coulter’s documented footnotes. I read Joy Hakim’s series on a history of the US to my kids and the chapter on LBJ seemed too good to be true.

So I read this one for balance. Real truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I recommend this book and any other that would make me feel less ‘had’ by the stories I read. How will the next book portray Obama and his policies? They sound wonderful but may work about as good as LBJ’s.

We’ll see.

Yes, I said amazing. To think of all the wrong info in history that a majority of people really believe is true. Some of things I learned in High School were wrong. Big Wrong. Get this book and get it straight.

I googled a book that I’ve found extremely hard to find, ‘The Illustrated Man’ (and with order conditions that suit me),ie. avoiding Amazon’s buy more goods to qualify for free delivery, or the appalling condition of EBay goods.

Having found the book I wanted on The Tank Museum website, I was delighted to have found an alternative to the ‘big’ web stores. Ordering was so easy and I was delighted to donate during the checkout pages.

Delivery is offered on various options, I chose first class tracked. My Illustrated Man book was not, ‘very good’, ‘used acceptable’ etc. etc!! It is as brand new as a book can be and I am truly delighted with my purchase from The Tank Museum and it will be a favoured place to go to browse and buy from a wonderful selection of books with quality of service an absolute given.

I have bought this book at least ten times since I discovered Ray Bradbury in the early 1960’s. The book is way better than the movie. A book allows you your imagination to explore the recesses of your mind.

I end up giving books away to share the compelling stories or helpful information. This copy is for me!.

I wasn’t impressed by the book. That started off with knowing the geography of the area. The author suggests that floods would cause that part of Canada to wash into Vermont, but Vermont is uphill from Canada! Later in the book, it seemd to me that the author couldn’t make up her mind as to where the story was going.

Another riveting novel in the series with Inspector Gamache is my review of the 15th book about the characters in the Quebec village of Three Pines and the Surete du Quebec. The people in the stories are just as lifelike and charismatic as they were in the other novels.

There is a reality here of life as we know it as difficult and challenging, but with the hope of the counterbalance of the love and caring of family and friends healing the wounds. Louise Penny takes you farther into this world of murder and mystery than many of the other writers in this genre.

Loved the series at first but it should have ended 2 books ago. The plots are great. The descriptions are awesome but. It could be that while I love the way Penny writes , I despise her hero Gamache & his wife and Clara the artist.

They are exactly what their detractors in the series say they are so I have no empathy for them. I do love Ruth the poet & Jean Guy. Its time for Gamache to retire and Penny to start a new book or series.

No matter how many books I read by Holocaust survivors, I always manage to encounter horrors I’ve never heard of before and marvel anew at the capacity humans have to survive the unimaginable. In his first sentence Eddie Jaku introduces himself as your new friend and I found that so endearing.

It got me immediately invested in his story and I would have thought it was a clever way to grab you emotionally from the get to if I didn’t believe he meant it wholeheartedly. But I did believe him.

Intermittently addressing you, his friend, throughout the book, Eddie tells you his story. From his school days to his experiences in multiple concentration camps and beyond, you can’t help but feel you’re sitting across from him as he regales you with his stories and the wisdom he’s accumulated along the way.

Despite taking you on a journey through the darkest humanity has to offer, Eddie has managed to hold onto hope. This is a quick read, one that is undeniably heartbreaking at times. I felt like Eddie was probably holding back on describing some of the more difficult aspects of his story, but fair enough.

I can’t even begin to imagine how painful it was for him to write about any of his early life. Ultimately, my experience of this book was one where I felt better after reading it than I felt before I began.

I made a new friend, albeit one I’ll probably never meet. I was reminded that it is possible to be happy and live a fulfilled life, even when you’ve experienced pain that feels insurmountable. I was encouraged to inject some more kindness into the world.

My only quibble, and this is simply because Eddie made me care deeply about them, is that I yearn to know what happened to Henni after she moved to Australia and to Kurt. I adored reading about Eddie and Kurt’s friendship and to leave Kurt’s story in 1946, without any information about their (I hope) continued friendship, hurt a little.

I’d like to introduce you to my friend Eddie, we haven’t ever really met, but he’s had a profound impact on me. You see Eddie wrote a book. His book is about how he became The Happiest Man on Earth (by Eddie Jaku).

You wouldn’t know it from hearing about his life. You’d imagine a man that had survived the Holocaust after facing unimaginable torture and the real possibility of imminent death would be pretty wrecked, that he’d be sad and withdrawn and unable to go on.

But not Eddie, he’s happy, and not only is he happy, he wants to help others find happiness and beauty in their lives too. Eddie’s is a story of hope. It is hard to read about Eddie’s life, his experience throughout the Holocaust and the losses he faced and torture he experienced, but more than ever it is important to educate ourselves about what hate can do.

One of Eddie’s lessons is that weakness can turn to hate. This is how Hitler rose to power, how everyday people turned on their fellow man. This is what we all need to remember and fight against now, what we see prevailing all across the world now.

As Eddie says, if you lose your morals you lose yourself. Eddie’s other lesson is that where there is life there is hope and that we can all share our hope and love with each other. This is why Eddie shares his story, his story is not about him sharing his pain, but of sharing his hope.

This is an important book for all to read, it is a short book, but its impact will be lasting. We all need to remember the atrocities of the Holocaust to ensure that history does not repeat itself. Thank you Eddie Jaku OAM.

I have never wanted to read a book about the holocaust as I thought it would be too heavy. We all remember Schindler’s List right? But this. Wow. You still feel the pain and the heart ache. The sadness for the 6 million lives lost.

So hard to fathom. But you’re given just the right amount of information to not feel so heavy. What a remarkable man. Happiness is the key and Eddie shows us all. RIP my new friend Eddie. Your job is done.

And I agree. Don’t ever forget to tell your mother your love her. When she’s gone, you will feel the pain.

Entertaining reading if you’re into historical Mountain Man yarns, as this one incorporates real characters and their exploits, alongside a few fictitious characters performing their heroic feats of endurance.

I had meant to read this novel for years, because it was one of two works upon which the 1972 film Jeremiah Johnson was based (the other being ‘Crow Killer,’ by Raymond Thorp). Vardis Fisher’s prose is beautiful and dynamic, making it difficult to put the book down.

He was a prolific Western historian, unfortunately quite overlooked today, who was both a brilliant historian as well as a talented writer. Many historians lack the ability to re-tell historical narrative in a lucid, engaging way.

Fisher definitely did not have this problem. I will be re-reading this novel many times, I’m sure.

I read this book as a kid and enjoyed it so much that I had to read it again. It gives you a real sense of the time about Mountain Men during the early to mid 1800’s. I would recomend it to anybody interested in the subject, time, people or the area around Yellowstone durint the 1800’s.

It has rekindeled an intrest in other books about the same subject, area, and time period. Great read!.

This is a gripping story about a secret mission to rescue downed airmen during WWII. My dad was one of those airmen rescued – we never knew about it (participants were sworn to secrecy) until a friend told us his name was listed in Mr.

Freeman’s book. What a revelation about some of those people from the Greatest Generation. Well written; of interest to anyone who enjoys historical information, or just a good book to read. Thank you, Mr.

This book reopens the WWII story of an amazing survival and escape for downed air pilots in Europe. It is a spell binding episode that captures you! While it speaks of the horror of war it also tell us of some humane and unexpected comraderie during rescues! This is a “good read”!.

Never knew about this rescue story. One of the Bravest greatest generation true stories and what they went through. Hard to put the book down.

Excellent book clearly laying our the historical time-line of white men using and abusing so many other nationalities of people for their own economic rising and set the tone for systemic racial injustice.

America wouldn’t be what it is today without the forced human sacrifice of whomever the white men chose. Eye-Opening. Must-Read.

This book is great for those that believe that history books have it all wrong. I loved how Takaki wrote about America’s true history which included other races.

Takaki really illuminates the lesser known series of ever so many ethnic and racial groups in America with great insight. A book I will long remember even though not quite completed. It is a hard read but well worth the effort.

I am someone who often asks deep questions about the meaning of life. This book has paralleled those questions and given them more meaning. Viktor Frankl was not only a Holocaust survivor but a clinical psychiatrist.

He gives his own accounts of his time in a concentration camp, intriguing written from his perspective. Then he merges that in the latter half of the book with his explanations on Logotherapy, a clinical methodology he contributed to.

Humanity, good and bad is covered through the book, but I felt it had an admirable tone of perseverance and prevail of the human spirit. Matched with his contributions as a clinician. I’ve recommend this book to my family and friends.

This book is life-changing, at the very least it’s undoubtedly shifted my perspective on life and suffering. Dr Frankl writes about his time spent in concentration camps and his founding of logotherapy.

Frequently quoting Nietzsche, especially “He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how”, Frankl goes on to suggest the need or search for meaning in our lives is of the most paramount importance, and a crucial part of maintaining good mental health.

Frankly explains suffering is an inevitable part of our lives, and that regardless of the burden placed upon us, we all have the choice to accept our suffering or succumb to it. Whether we’re being a role model for others who experience the same circumstances, or use our suffering as a means to improve ourselves in different aspects of our lives, we can all find a meaning in our suffering and through finding meaning we can overcome anything.

There are quite a few concepts I learned about in this book such as paradoxical intention, the importance of meaning in our lives, as well as enduring and using our suffering for a greater good. I read this at a time when I really needed it, and this book has been a catalyst for positive change in my life.

Man’s Search for Meaning is a 1946 book by psychiatrist Viktor Frankl chronicling his experiences as an Auschwitz concentration camp inmate. Frankl and his fellow prisoners had to endure atrocities that many of us cannot even imagine.

Prisoners had to survive on one small piece of bread a day and maybe some thin soup. They had to work 20 hours each day, digging and laying railroads and so on. If you looked weak, you were beaten. If you stopped working, you were beaten.

And you didnt get much of a second chance after that. You could be killed for any reason. When suffering fills your life, what do you do? Do you take up your cross? Do you remain brave, dignified and unselfish? Or do you become no more than an animal? Most men in a concentration camps believed that the real opportunities of life had passed.

Yet, in reality, there was an opportunity and a challenge. One could make a victory of those experiences, turning life into an inner triumph, or one could ignore the challenge and simply vegetate, as did a majority of the prisoners.

What a wonderful freedom to discover that you can choose your own meaning and that meaning with keep you filled with life.

Simply gobsmacking and revealing on every level. Where are we going as a HomoSapien? What have we achieved? What have we destroyed? So much to ponder. An incredible perspective on life on our planet earth and where we are (most likely) heading.

Essential reading!.

I couldn’t stop reading his previous book Sapiens, and was super keen on both Deus and the 21 Lessons books. Deus is still mostly about the past, and only the last quarter of the book touches on the future.

There’s still some great insights, but more could have been done with the discussion on AI, nanotechnology, and whether humans are upgraded or replaced. Less on the past and more on the future would have scored 5 stars.

Because Harari exemplifies the word “clarity. ” He takes from a plethora of sources to make a coherent world of ever-varying changes. The book’s focus moves from his first, a vast history of our world and all the species.

He is never prejudiced in favor of or in dis-favor of any theory or philosophy. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of his third volume.

Strongly recommend. Easy read. Author presents 4 Maxiums/Principles for men to live by. He also portrays examples of chrarcter traits true men can live out and shows how they were lived out by men in history.

No guilt trip but an encouragement to be a man. Not a book about being a chauvinist but about what it means to be a godly man and living a life of honor that will leave a positive legacy on generations to come.

Women and society would be all the better if more men would take this book to heart.

This is such an enjoyable book! To read a book that speaks so highly of MEN is so refreshing. MEN are powerful and awesome. To raise a real man takes a real man! Dont underestimate the power of a husband to raise your little men.

Right from the get go the atmosphere is created to inspire a man to be his best. Take a journey through time and find in yourself the qualities that make a man…..a Man.

This is the book I’ve been looking for! In an era of bickering and self-flagellation, just who are we? Where did we come from? Where do we want to go? As an Aussie I chuckle at the American pride that comes through in this book.

I don’t have to agree with all the author’s perspectives but the essential tenants of his argument are correct. The beauty of the book is it’s comprehensive and succinct overview of history and it’s influential thinkers.

This book put many famous names in context for me and has given me many rich threads to pursue further. Absolutely brilliant.

Ben Shapiro has produced an easy to understand summary of the basis for our Western Civilization with its Judaeo/Christian moral values being held in tension with the Philosophy of Athens and its introduction of reason and logic.

For those who want to educate themselves on the history of the benefits that we enjoy in the West then this is a great book. It should be compulsory reading in schools and universities as there has been, in recent decades, a lack of understanding of the basis for the success of the West.

The fear is that the foundations of our society are being attacked without the knowledge of why they are in place and like attacking the foundation of a building once they are removed the building will fall.

A very insightful perspective on the basics and formation of the western culture. Ben tells all in an easy to understand narative. While I disagreed with one of his thoughts near the end of the book, I learned a great deal more from this book and enjoyed it.

This novel is another great example of Keyes’ talent for making otherwise serious, weighty issues humorous and engaging. all while still facing tough topics head on. I love her ability to interweave her characters lives, and also giving each character a clear, believable voice.

I have never been disappointed by a Marian Keyes novel, but This Charming Man is on an even higher level of my appreciation. I absolutely loved this book, and it solidified Marian Keyes as one of my most favorite authors.

She leads you on a journey through every emotion possible, and you form a bond with these characters.

Always enjoy her books. This is an especially good one. Cant put it down.

Marian Keys has a knack for writing. In her books, she brings about real life struggles that people go through, adding touch of reality to her novels. “This Charming Man” centers around domestic abuse, depression, true love, alcoholism, and trust.

Its tells the story of 3 woman, all who have been with one charming man ‘Paddy deCorsy’ and how their lives were deeply impacted by him. Now, although I was a bit disappointed in the end (because it didn’t tell us what happened next) I was pleased reading it.

Its a hit, and one that should not be missed!.
