20 Best Locks For Front Door (2023 Updated)

Recently bought a home that had a hornbill smart lock. This lock was missing the battery cover, simple enough right. I contacted customer service, after many emails of back and forth ( Ofcourse there is no human phone customer service) Blair refuses to send me a replacement, but sends a link on Amazon to replacement as they can’t confirm it is their product ( this is after sending photos etc).

Unclear why or how a picture of a hornbill lock doesn’t suffice. Blair sure found that Amazon link quickly however. Thank you for wasting my time, if you refused to replace your product parts you could have just said that in the beginning.

I will not ever purchase this product due to the lack of customer service and now plan to remove the lock from my new house. This was over $29. 99. If you’d like my lock for free please email me.

I love this lock. It was easy to install and customer service was available to help if I had any questions. I did a lot research and this is an excellent price point for a great product. I love the app, and can customize preferences to my liking.

No more locking myself out of the house and having to drive to my parents house for my spare key.

I have had this lock installed for just about a month, and while the lock works well and looks nice, there have been some speedbumps along the way that might deter some purchasers. I appreciate the unit’s solid construction and high-quality parts, and while I have not needed it as of yet, I know eufy has a strong customer service department to provide help to those who may need it.

Installing the product was relatively easy, but I can see how the process would be difficult for someone without a ton of door hardware installation knowledge. All necessary hardware was included in the box, all you need is your own tools.

Once the lock was installed, I immediately experienced some Wi-Fi connectivity issues, with the lock disconnecting and reconnecting frequently even though our router is only 20 unobstructed feet from the front door.

These issues have continued, but not been nearly as frequent. I occasionally get the notificaiton on my phone that the lock has disconnected form the Wi-Fi, only to get a reconnected notification soon therafter.

As for using the lock, the fingerprint reader can be a bit finicky if your finger isn’t clean and dry, but the other opening options have made this not a very noticible issue, as you may unlock the unit viawith your phone through the app or use the keypad entry methods.

I really like the auto-lock feature, however I have noticed that occasionally the unit will auto-lock itself after the set time even while the door is left opened (like when running out to grab mail), which means needing to disengage the lock before you cna shut your door and rengage the lock.

Also, I have been fortunate to not have yet run into any battery charging issues, which a handful of other purchasers have mentioned. I have not yet had to recharge the unit after a month of regular use.

Overall, the lock is a sturdy unit that looks nice (albeit a bit large) when installed. If you can get over the small issues mentioned above, I think this would prove to be a good purchase. Just make sure you are a bit handy wiht tools and tech, and I don’t think you will have any issues wiht this eufy locking system.

Bought this for ease of access to house and its been working great so far bought it 14 days ago, charged the battery same day about 5 hours of charging didnt fully charged it and it says it has full bar of battery still.

The fingerprint is good as long as your finger is clean, keypad works fine, havent used the key yet(comes with 5 keys). Very easy to install. Im happy i didnt have to drill any holes to make room for it.

Cons: -sometimes when you manually unlock and lock the door, the app would think its unlocked but in reality its locked. It makes problems if someone comes in using the fingeprint the sounding alarm “deadbolt might be blocked.

Try again” will alarm and its pretty loud. But if you use the fingerprint again itll unlock normally. You can also fix the showing unlcked problem by manually unlocking and locking again. This usually happens every other day for me.

-auto-lock. The app has a feature for auto unlock where you can set a timer for it to lock when it becames unlocked. I find this pretty useless though since It dosent have a door sensor so itll auto lock even if the door is open.

-i got the one with a rechargeable battery, but i wish you could buy another battery pack so you can just pop one in while the other charges. But the battery seems to last a while so not too big of a problem -no battery percentage, it justs shows bar of battery.

Depsite the cons im happy with my purchase, just heads up make sure you buy a correlating door handle as well if you want it to match colors. I had a bronze door handle and it didnt look good with the black eufy.

So i bought a matching door handle which added $100 more.

This is a really cool product that unfortunately didnt work for our situation. Install is straight forward, but I had to shave off a little bit of the inside of the deadbolt cavity to be able to have this unit sit flush and connect to the locking mechinism securely and plum.

That wasnt a big deal I dealt with a with a box cutter and shaved off a few millimeters to get it to seat properly. Once seated I was able to get everything in and turning without issue. Then I installed the striker plate and that was thicker than the standard one removed from the existing hole.

So I had to shave a little off that side as well to get the plate to seat flush and close right. Again not a huge deal. I was able to get it connected to my wifi and set up through the app without any problems.

I was able to open and close the dead bolt manually. When I tried to use the app to activate the lock, it would get stuck. When I took a close look, on the door frame side, the standard hold is a square shape, while this unit is round and although it fits into that hole barely, if your door is not perfectly aligned it will get stuck so you have to push your door in or pull a little to allow the deadbolt to close.

This is possible manually locking but the lock was not able to align without my intervention. So next step was to look into installing the included plate for the frame side. That plate is much smaller than the standard for the doors so it was leaving a large gap all around it making it look pretty unfinished and exposed.

The way that it fit to expose wood and cavity was unsatisfactory for us. I then tried to connect to my Ring app to have control over this through Ring security. I was unable to do this because the Ring app was under my wife’s name and this account wanted to connect to my Alexa account which was under my name.

So in order to use that function I would have to disconnect all Echo devices from my amazon account, connect her Ring account through the Alexa app, which would make our Echo’s disconnect from our main Amazon account.

This was too much of a hassle and loss of function of our connected and main account and the way it make the plate look unfinished and misfit was the main reason we returned it. If you have a new door install where you can cut to the holes perfect for this unit that would be great.

And if you are starting a new account or only have one amazon / ring account to connect to this that would also make this unit work well for you. We really liked how this preserved the look of our square door hardware and not make the smart lock noticeable but ultimately we had to make too many sacrifices to make it fit to our needs so we decided to forgo using this lock.

The unit itself feels high quality and is well packaged with easy directions. Best of luck on your install experience and hope it works out for you because we really wish we could have kept this and used it.

The design of the Level Bolt smart lock is a great idea for those that don’t want others to know one is using a smart lock. The challenge is whether the Level Bolt is going to work with one’s existing door lock.

We ran into trouble because the double keyed Schlage locks we have on a couple of our doors just did not work with this lock. The internal parts of our double keyed locks did not allow for the Level Bolt tailpiece adapter that one must insert in the motor’s center hole.

We did end up using the Level Bolt on a different outside door than our front, entry door since our other door utilized a Schlage single cylinder deadbolt. The printed instructions that come with the Level Bolt are quite good and illustrations clearly show what is to be done at each step.

The installation of this lock should be doable for most homeowners, but it is important that the door has proper alignment for the lock to engage. Level does partner with HelloTech to provide professional installation starting at $79.

Once the Level Bolt was installed it was easy to download the Level Home app. I created an account and was also able to add additional people and invite them to install the app to allow access to the Level Bolt as a guest or admin.

Another option is to utilize Passes to grant temporary access to the lock. During setup the app will also prompt one to link with Apple HomeKit which will allow users to use voice commands to lock/unlock via Siri.

This functionality worked fine for me once I went into Apple HomeKit to change the lock name to match what I had entered into the Level Home app. Within the app, lock settings can be modified to turn on/off the Auto-Lock feature and the Auto-Unlock feature.

Location services must be turned on always to utilize the Auto-Unlock feature since this utilizes geo-fencing to assess your home boundary. The Level Bolt can give the user notifications if the locking function jams or malfunctions, but there is no feature to indicate that the door is open or ajar.

In summation, I think the Level Bolt lock performs well in terms of the auto-lock/unlock features; in addition to offering Siri voice controls via the Apple HomeKit and is also Alexa compatible. Documentation states that Level locks meet the highest industry standards for residential security, but I lean towards preferring a smart lock that utilizes the original lock hardware bolt versus the Level bolt that contains the CR2 battery.

Obviously, one must be willing to live with the tradeoff of not having the invisible smart lock design, but I’d tend to give our August smart lock preference for their app design and additional functionality.

If one prefers the invisible smart lock design of Level Bolt to maintain the look of one’s original lock then I believe you’ll find the essential smart lock functions covered in the Level Home app.

It feels like the future: a door that can lock and unlock at the touch of a button or the sound of your voice. It’s not too good to be true, either, with a wide range of smart lock systems on the market.

So how does the unique Level Bolt stack up? This smart deadbolt system’s marquee feature is its invisibility. It installs in place of the internals of your existing deadbolt, leaving both the aesthetics and keys of your lock in place.

This was especially appealing to me as a renter; I could install the lock without disrupting access by my landlord or maintenance, which was my chief concern. Even better, I didn’t need to worry about purchasing an expensive lock color-matched to the door hardware, only to move to a different apartment and find my lock no longer matched.

On this front, the Level Bolt is just about unbeatable. The lock arrived with all necessary hardware and adapters, packaged with an Apple-level of attention to detail. Installation was more or less a breeze.

The key here is to have a standard American deadbolt and door setup, which I did; because Level Bolt replaces the internals of your lock but uses the same externals, clearances are pretty tight, and Level clearly designed this to fit within the standards of most modern American homes.

On the door side of things, Level Bolt fit perfectly into the Kwikset deadbolt system on my door. When it came to the door jamb I did need to do a bit of adjusting, but that’s on account of the misalignment caused by the settling of my old apartment.

I hoped to keep the same strike plate but Level Bolt’s bolt is round, rather than the flat sides of the bolt it replaced, so using Level’s included strike plate was necessary. All told, it’s one of the simpler door lock installations I’ve done.

I highly recommend reading through Level’s online compatibility guides, which provide comprehensive details on clearances and installation difficulties you may run into. Setup was a breeze after removing the battery tab and I appreciated the clever integration of the battery compartment into the bolt itself, making battery replacement a breeze.

Level of course requires you to download their app and make an account to complete setup, a simple process that had my lock up and running in no time. The app allows you lock/unlock, change a few settings, monitor battery life, and share door access with others.

You can share access permanently with family, friends and housemates, or send virtual “keys” with controlled access windows to whomever might need to enter your home. Neat! I tested Level Bolt’s integration with Apple’s HomeKit platform.

It does require a HomeKit hub, such as an Apple TV or HomePod, to enable control; this is because Level uses Bluetooth for communication, necessitating a stationary hub of some sort to communicate with the lock and enable control over the internet.

Once integrated with HomeKit, you can control Level using Siri voice commands or the Apple Home app, including adding the lock to Home Automation routines that can run based on time of day, voice commands or device locations.

I found HomeKit control very reliable, with only one or two instances where the Home app was momentarily unable to control Level. The Level app itself was dead-on reliable, a requirement for something as important as access to your home.

While pretty reliable, HomeKit isn’t perfect, and Siri can be persnickety at times. HomeKit requires confirmation when running routines that include smart locks like Level as an added security measure, meaning my leaving home/arriving home routines set to lock or unlock the door based on my phone’s location were not fully hands-free; I had to wait for a notification from the Home app to appear on my phone and confirm I wanted it to run before the door would lock or unlock.

If you’ve used HomeKit’s geofencing before you’ll find it casts a pretty wide net, meaning I had to travel a few blocks away from my apartment before the Home app would ask if I wanted to lock the door.

Not the most secure option, certainly, and I found myself locking the door with my voice or the Home app immediately after closing it, rather than waiting for the routine to run after I exited the geofence.

Coming home was smoother, as I’d just wait until I was heading up the stairs to click “run” on the notification bubble, and the door would be unlocked by the time I got to it. In June of 2021, Level announced their entire range of products is now compatible with Amazon’s Alexa and the Ring/Amazon Sidewalk program.

As a Google Home/Google Assistant user, I was unable to test this functionality, but it is a welcome addition to Level. If Alexa compatibility can be enabled, hopefully Google Assistant won’t be far behind.

That being said, the Level app currently only allows you to connect Level to one smart home system at a time — the app warns me setting up Ring/Alexa will delete the Level Bolt from my HomeKit setup.

This is a frustrating limitation at this time, as I imagine many users have iDevices in addition to Alexa devices and would like to use Level with both concurrently. As a relative newcomer, hopefully Level can figure this out, even if it means purchasing a separate hub device of some sort.

Overall, Level Bolt is unique and well-designed, and has near-flawless reliability in my week of testing. That said, it commands a high price and currently only integrates with Apple HomeKit OR Amazon Alexa/Sidewalk/Ring — not both at the same time — which definitely limits its appeal.

If you’re tied into one of these platforms already or absolutely cannot have an externally visible smart lock, than then Level might be a great solution for you. Otherwise, one of the many other smart locks available may meet your needs more completely.

I am very pleased with this Prime-Line Jimmy-Resistant Deadlock. While it is not a solid brass lock, it is solid and well made from diecast. The lock turns very smoothly and is quiet. Proper tools are required to be able to install this lock.

You need to be able to drill a hole through the door large enough to fit through the lock cylinder. Also, depending on your door and door frame you may need to chisel out wood from the door frame to install the strike plate so that it aligns well with the lock.

I think it is a very decent lock for the price.

The product arrived in an amazon prime packet with an amazon gift receipt – the item was billed for much less than what I paid for through Walmart. Felt cheated. Not only that the lock was full of scratches and really the finish was peeling.

Never shopping on Walmart again.

Installation instructions for drilling the cylinder hole vague. After some measuring and whittling after using the template, I finally got the cylinder to turn. Two holes shown on the template but nothing to tell you which hole location to use or why two are shown.

Pros: Install into door went smoothly. I also ensured that my original dead bolt action was aligned precisely before purchasing this lock. I highly recommend purchasers verify that before buying. SW setup went well.

I have the bridge in my configuration. Finger print recognition works as well as a phone finger print reader. Batteries lasting well so far. I have had this product installed for 8 1/2 months without a battery change.

App is straight forward and not difficult to use. Finish / product look and feel is eye and texture pleasing. Very well made. Cons: App is slow and inconsistently logs me in with the previous saved credentials when I initiate it.

Although I don’t use the app often. I cannot comment on the bluetooth connection to the app since I always connect via wifi through the bridge. So easy to add other users to the account. I was tired of my wife losing her key to the house once every few years.

This product solves this issue.

I absolutely love this lock. I have four of them. Very easy to come in and out using the fingerprint. Also you can assign multiple people different number so you know who’s entering and when. You will never knock yourself out with this device.

Are used to have a bad habit of forgetting to lock the door before I go out, this prevents it as it auto locks at the time you have preset. No fumbling for keys when your hands are full. By all means by the bridge, it allows you to open or close the door remotely.

This is extremely well-made and has great reviews everywhere. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

We are very happy with our new smart lock and have been using it about a week. My wife doesn’t have to dig around in her purse for keys anymore so I know she can get in quickly and safely. You can unlock it from the outside with a smartphone, the fingerprint reader, your own pin number, or a plain old key.

It was a little bit difficult to install only because I needed to trim our wood door and door jam at the lock to allow it to sit in place properly. I just followed the directions and used tools I already had.

(You’ll need a chisel or wood working tools. ) I can’t comment on its durability but so far so good. I’m impressed.

So full disclosure, I had really high expectations for this lock because I owned the original Wyze Lock. For the purposes of this review, that’s what I am comparing this to. I feel when compared the original, there are essentially 3 things you’re giving up simply for the fingerprint scanner.

First off, I love this new lock. I like that I can have multiple users’ fingerprints added as we have family that come over often and giving them all keys kind of asks for them to be lost. They had codes before but now it’s even easier.

While we’re on the topic of the fingerprint reader, its FAST. Faster than most phones which is nice for when you’re out for a walk. It’s gone from fiddling around for a key, to entering a code (original wyze lock), to just tapping my finger.

Overall, this lock is fantastic but there are 2 things missing, one of which almost feels like a deal breaker. The original Wyze lock knew when it was open, so if we left the door open, we could set it up to make a racket if it’s open longer than 30 minutes.

Great for keeping everyone mindful of heating/cooling. This lock, despite being more expensive, does NOT know when it’s open. This causes trouble with the auto lock and honestly makes me wonder why it’s omitted because my assumption would be that they had a compass in the original and I know it would have added to the price, but I mean, I think that’s a pretty important feature.

The other feature missing is more a function of the design and I get why they did this so all I’ll say is that it does suck not having notifications from this thing. Like when someone unlocks the door or what have you.

It’s less of a big deal since we have the doorbell (also from wyze) but just thought I’d point it out. The last thing is what I consider to be a bit of a deal breaker and the reason it’s 3 stars and not 4.

I utilize the “auto lock” feature because I’m forgetful and the people in my house are forgetful. We’ve had the original lock for about a year, and it ALWAYS locks and will ALWAYS alert us if there is a problem with it auto locking.

On this lock I have auto lock on from 8PM until 8AM, it’s nice that you can schedule it but let me ask. What’s the point of being able to schedule it, if it doesn’t lock? It only seems to work if you open the door and close it between those times.

If you go for a walk at 6 and don’t lock the door when you get back, at 8 when the auto lock is supposed to be on it WILL NOT LOCK. This is a security product and if you set the expectation that your door will lock itself and will always be locked, then you need to make sure that you do it.

It’s a matter of safety more so than your other products. I will finish this off by saying, I love Wyze (even though they wont get me in their beta despite owning almost their entire product lineup) but this one was kind of a bummer to me.

I really wanted to have a door that could be opened without a key. The ones I kept finding used your phone to auto unlock or lock. I really did not like that idea and just wanted something that could use a code.

This is a very basic but I love it! It was easy to attach to my door and setup in the app. I was able to share the lock with my partner through the app. We each have our own four digit pin along with finger print ID.

I currently have this on our back patio door as its a covered area and I figured it would be a good spot to have this lock. The great thing is the door does lock after 10 or 15 minutes and the finger print reader works perfectly.

When the door cannot lock (door not fully shut), the lock will try a few times to complete the lock series and when it cannot it will beep a few times. The downside, when the lock cannot lock it only beeps a few times but I really wish it would notify me via my phone.

Second, I wish you could schedule times for when the door would auto lock. During the day we come and go out the patio door and it would be nice to have it just stay unlocked all day, then at 10PM it would go back to the auto lock feature.

This is honestly the only bad thing I really have to say about it, but if I put this on a garage door it really wouldn’t be an issue. You can also schedule four digit codes for guest to use to get into the house.

You do not need to be connected to the lock and you can be anywhere you have internet. This is great for when a friend needs to come over and check on your house or you need to let someone in and you are not around.

I’m debating on getting a second one for our garage door since we really like this one a lot. I would recommend this lock if you just need something basic or you do not want one that auto unlocks like the other wyze lock.

For the price its hard to complain. I bought 4 when they went on sale. They work as advertised. I have one on my front door, one on my rental unit, and one on a shared door for the basement (and one backup just incase).

Its nice that I don’t need multiple keys for all the different doors. My code works on all three doors, and the tenants code only gives access to their door and the shared door. The fingerprint reader sometimes takes a couple tries to unlock, and occasionally wont work at all if there is dust on the lock, dirt on my finger, or if my finger is not quite lined up right.

In these circumstances the keypad is easy to use and has never failed on me. I tried to set up the auto-lock feature so that It would automatically lock later at night but remain unlocked during the day.

It sort of works, but if it is already unlocked it wont automatically lock when you get to the set time for auto-lock to be active. Because of this I just keep it in auto-lock all the time. Lastly, I wish when you give someone access to the lock via the app that they could set up their own fingerprints on the lock, not just passcodes.

I have one on a rental unit and I had to physically be there with my phone to set up my tenants fingerprints on the lock. Some of these issues could be fixed with software/firmware updates so hopefully they roll out some updates at some point.

Overall I am happy with the performance. The real test will be the cold weather performance here in New England.

I have a smart deadbolt I got for my front door and liked the ability to go out with out my keys so much that I decided to upgrade my side door as well. One thing I didn’t like about the other brand I had is that it doesn’t seem to line up perfectly and the door doesn’t always unlock right unless you put pressure on the door as you use the deadbolt.

This setup doesn’t replace your whole lock, so it is better/easier to install. Installation took around an hour, but I also got the keyless pad so that was part of the reason. My install location didn’t really have a good place for the keypad so it took a bit to install.

Operation of the lock is easy and smooth. I only really cared about the keyless entry but I’m liking all the smart features. I especially like the ability to manage everything, including the lock status without going to the door.

Our side door is in the garage and its nice to not have to walk all the way out there to check if it is locked. I do use the auto-lock feature, but my kids don’t always shut the door properly, so it can’t lock itself if the door isn’t fully closed.

This lets me verify everything quickly and easily. I really like how thoughtful the developers were and created things like “trash mode” so that you can set up an autolock feature and still do quick things around the house without worrying about getting locked out accidentally.

The geofencing feature is convenient so I don’t have to pull out my phone or type in a code, but since I do have the keypad, its less necessary. My biggest complaint for the device is the gateway. I understand why they have one and the additional features they can have because of it, but it wasn’t convenient to find an outlet that wasn’t already in use that was close enough to the door to get a clear signal.

I found that the connection was a little week between the door and the gateway so it really had to be pretty close. Since this was on a garage side door, my options were a bit more limited. Overall I like this unit and would recommend it to a friend.

I’ve been looking to get a smart door lock for my place but was a bit leery or not interested in having to switch keys for my locks. I found out that this lock didn’t require changing out any keys and would work with your existing deadbolt so I figured this would be a great alternative.

I now know there are a few other brands that make locks like this where you don’t need to switch out keys so that’s a good thing as well. Installation is pretty simple and straightforward. When you download the companion app, it’ll walk you through installing and configuring the lock.

Once you plug in the gateway, it’s pretty much unscrewing the bolts on your deadbolt and letting the app configure everything else. Simple and all you really need is a screwdriver to complete the installation.

Once setup, there are some settings you’ll want to update. This has an auto-lock feature that can be either setup to lock once the door closes or after a certain period of time. There is also a geofence option where it’ll lock once you leave a certain radius from your home.

I’d suggest updating the notifications first as getting an alert everytime the door is locked/unlocked can get kind of annoying. After setting everything up, I think I got this to where I need it to be.

A couple things I noticed; With this installed, I can’t unlock the deadbolt with my key anymore. Not sure if this is intended but it’s kind of a potential issue should the batteries in the lock die or I misplace my phone or something.

Also, the deadbolt adapters are plastic and fit inside the metal gear that unlocks/locks the bolt. Considering it’s metal against plastic, overtime there may be some wear and tear issues that occur. Would’ve liked to have seen the adapters made of metal or even a plastic adapter with a metal housing just to limit any issues with wear and tear.

Overall though, really nice pickup if you want to smarten up your home.

I purchased two of the Halo models for each of my AIRBNB’s a year ago. I like the concept. PROS: Fingerprint smudge proof security for the touch screen, being able to deny access at any given time through the APP, turning on deny access after guest leave, setting a day and timeframe as to when the guest can check-in, knowing when and who enters the property due to the history log and codes I assign, being able to assign and send codes for maintenance crews or guest with there own personal codes they give me and delete it after they leave, setting automatic lock feature when someone leaves out and leave door unlocked, unlock with Google Assistant, deleting and adding codes when I want even if I’m in China, Belize, or EUROPE, and being able to see the battery on the APP.

HOWEVER, all of that is good until CONS: If the power go out, there’s no internet, and there’s no APP access to let your guest in if they get locked out, if the battery life is 40% or lower it could go dead at any time; I was told my internet carrier SPRINT/T-MOBILE is not compatible and that’s why the batteries drain so quickly, and lord forbid anything happens to the lock, THERE IS NO SUPPORT ON THE WEEKENDS AT ALL, YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE INSTRUCTION FROM THE INTERNET and that’s the DEVIL, and if that doesn’t work, you better have a lockbox nearby with the key to open it.

SMH. It goes offline weekly, you have to login and out of the APP, that sometimes reconnect it, or you have to call customer service so they can walk you through resetting the lock totally. I’ve tried it by myself and I’m pretty good at ready and executing instruction, but after so many times, I gave up and PRAYED, then the lock started working.

Lastly, if the power and internet goes out the lock will be like SEE YAAA, CHECK WITH ME LATER! I read in a review that they had to drive 3 hours just to reset it. Oh and yes, it is not user friendly to AIRBNB guest if you get someone over 60, they get confused when the entire keypad doesn’t light up, after you gave them instruction on how to wake he entire keypad up.

THEY JUST KEEP POKING AT IT, AND HOPING. If you have good internet, cases of batteries, and are extremely techy, it’s for you, if not, buy something else.

Put a kwikset Halo lock in my new home construction in 2021. Batteries would only last 1-3 weeks. Kwikset support sent me a new lock. Same problem. They sent me a 3rd lock…same problem. Finally I got a tech support person that admitted the locks sometimes don’t play well with certain WI-FI implantations.

Told me I should swap out my router for one on Kwikset’s approved list. I have a Comcast Xfinity router and several Wi-Fi products in my house (security cameras, printers, motorized drapes, Alexa, etc).

All work just fine. Only the Kwikset product doesn’t play well. I am not going to rip out my whole house Wi-Fi implementation to try to find one that works with Kwikset. I came from 30 years experience in the high tech industry and have managed both hardware and software engineering teams.

I know exactly what is going on here…buggy software. Kwikset probably farmed this app out to sub contractors and there have been no bug fixes or improvements. It is a poor implementation that bangs away on my Wi-Fi constantly and thereby drains the lock batteries in a matter of days to a couple of weeks.

Bottom line good idea, but awful software engineering implantation. The lock as a Wi-Fi enabled smart lock is useless. I have a Schlage smart lock in another home and it works great and is well behaved on my Wi-Fi network.

Absolutely can not recommend this KwikSet lock until they get a software implementation that works.

I bought this lock for all its functionality on a condo rental property that is three hours from my residence. Love all the functionality and its works as stated. The problem is the battery life is about 2 months.

They advertise 6 months but if you call CS with the issue they tell you 4 months. First was a firmware update to resolve and it help get one months usage. Trouble Shoot the lock three times and they will tell you that battery life only good with a handful of Wi-Fi routers that you will have to buy, that the lock should not be loaded with store brand batteries, trying that one next, and if all else fails you probably installed wrong and the bolt doesn’t fully extend draining the battery.

Really would like them to resolve their problem because it is a cool lock. Also the mobile app battery life went from 50 to x% which made monitoring difficult. Last thing I need is for a renter to get locked out of the house with me 3 hours away.

Maybe should have used rechargeable lithium battery that you could recharge with a usb cable. I would buy that replacement if it could integrate with the current deadbolt mechanism. The hardest part to get right on the install is the deadbolt.

This YRD-256 is my second Yale lock. Previously I owned a YRD–240 with a Z-Wave module for six years. It was sturdy and reliable without any issues (to this very day it works great) and it paired well with SmartThings.

Since then I’ve become a convert to HomeKit for several reasons I won’t go into here. While this one doesn’t use the new Apple HomeKey feature, I’ve come to trust Yale locks and the price point was easy to swallow.

This was a logical upgrade for me as it slides right into HomeKit. For this upgrade, I purchased the iM1 module separately and received my lock from Home Essentials Direct in one day. Installation was easy although it was similar to my last lock.

HomeKit setup was, of course, pleasantly simple and fast, even for a HomeKit appliance. After connecting, HomeKit suggested three scenes and three automations. I turned on all but one. The Yale app tracks my family’s PIN codes and keeps a log of use.

Sadly it does not allow a temporary code or an auto expire feature. Man, this would be a great feature. But otherwise, it is elegant and reliably functional using the Yale app, HomeKit, or Siri. If it holds up as well as my last Yale lock I am going to be very pleased with the value of this purchase.

Fairly easy to install, even if you have no mechanical skills. I had to adjust the strike plate to get the deadbolt to engage correctly (and fully). Not the fault of this lock. Did not come with a Wifi adapter and was disappointed at the cost to add one.

Ended up not buying the adapter. The kids have a code to get in if we are gone so the Wifi adapter is not necessary anyway. Have used the lock for a few months now and not disappointed in its performance.

Batteries (4 AA) are easy to change but will require a small screw driver. Still using the original batteries that came with it. If you’re wondering, should the batteries die, and you are stuck outside, it will take a 9 volt battery to get back in so keep a 9 volt battery somewhere outside or inside you car just incase.

This product performs wonderfully and love the simple functions and it’s even satisfying with the feedback it gives when you lock/unlock your door! The bad things? Well, for starters, after the somewhat lengthy install (which was significantly prolonged only because of the following:), it turned out that no mater what I did, the device struggled closing the latch and gave an error message.

It took me a while to figure this out, but I could tell that my purchase was a returned product due to various evidence, and it turned out that the previous owner damaged the door latch component, which resulted in too much friction.

So I purchased another one, with the intent of returning the other one. Thankfully I did it this way, because this new one, too, was previously opened and used. In the end, I had to pilfer parts from both packages in order to make it work.

Also, battery life seems very poor, as after about 8 days, it said low battery. Please note that I don’t have enough data yet to make that point conclusive at this time.

This is the third of this product I purchased for my home. I had one on my front and back door. Now that I have my tools in my garage, I put one there also. My son has a habit of losing keys so this is the perfect solution.

If there is ever a compromise you can always change the combination rather having to buy another lock. It is a quality product and you have easy access to the battery if it requires a change. You also have a key that can be used if your battery would go out and you had no other access to get in.

I am very pleased with my purchase. It is a high quality item and has a nice appearance. You can also use it’s illumination at night by pressing the keys.

Most keyless entry locks use the battery to activate (slide) the deadbolt. This one uses the battery to engage/disengage the smaller interior mechanism; you slide the deadbolt on this one. Guess which type battery lasts the longest: Surprise, the one that does the LEAST amount of mechanical work.

Most keyless entry locks run out of battery in about 3 months. This one last for two years. Thats a 8x difference. Don’t use the standard keyless deadbolt. Waste of time installing batteries and irritating since you have to bring your keys as a backup making them you not very “keyless”.

On the other hand, I never bring my keys so I am keyless. I change the single 9V battery every 22 months. Only use this type of keyless entry. Check for the rotating handle. The single negative aspect of this “semi-automatic” is the lack of designs.

Its either this one from the era of King Arthur or a slick modern one. This one is the closest match to the century old architecture “look” of North America houses. Good job architects keeping up with the times.

All keyless should go this way.

This Electronic Lock work flawlessly for about 2 years. Having said that it began to fail and would take several tries to get the unit to engage in opening or closing. I took it apart and cleaned it and by adding a drop of machine oil to the glide-slide this seemed to repair it.

I reassembled and reinstalled it. It has now been 2 weeks of the same usage, 10 to 20 open and closings a day, of the lock and it has been perfect. It has not failed 1 time and has operated in the same manner as when it was new.

You must have some Torx tools or you will not get it apart. Sure saved the cost of a new lock and I am more than happy with the lock now.

This is the second Milocks lock I have purchased. The first one is still in service for 4+ years now. Easy to install, easy to reset combinations, this lock is perfect for a rental, but also great for any use.

The battery last only few months. The keyboard doesn’t illuminate. The fluorescent digits don’t either. The deadbolt doesn’t work in freezing conditions. The keyboard malfunctions often (Double triggering or missing).

The confirmation beeps are very weak. Crappy quality.

Works great. Can give kids codes instead of keys but can change codes at will. So easy to operate. Wish I’d bought it sooner.

I recommend this lock, but with a warning. Be aware that the Nest X Yale door lock needs the Nest Connect in order to connect to WiFi and allow control through the app. While the Nest Connect comes with the lock, note that it needs to connect to a 2.

4Ghz network in order to be set up. This becomes difficult if you have a dual band or tri band wireless router and haven’t or can’t separate your network names for your 2. 4Ghz vs 5Ghz networks in order for you to connect the Nest Connect specifically to the former vs.

the latter. I could not, so it took me a very LONG time to figure out a way around this. The solution is to create a WiFi hotspot using your laptop (not mobile phone) and use the hotspot to set up the Connect and then the door lock.

Once setup, you can update the network connection from the hotspot to your regular WiFi network. Wish I had known this before I started and that it was made more clear in the setup instructions. Other than, after many many hours of hunting for the solution, it’s now setup, has been working fine and I am happy with it.

I was very excited to purchase the Nest x Yale Lock thinking it was going to be an upgrade over my existing Schlage Z-wave smart locks. I happily installed the lock imagining how awesome it was going to be to have my house a fully functioning Google smart home.

After an hour, my lock lost connection and I was not able to re-establish the connection with my network. I called Nest support who informed me that these locks are actually NOT compatible with the Google mesh network.

WHAT?! So apparently, because Google wifi will constantly switch from 2. 4 to 5 GHz to establish the best connection, the Nest x Yale smart lock cannot reciprocate. It will need to latch on to a single frequency.

As such, whenever the frequency changes, the lock will drop it’s connection and cannot automatically re-establish the connection. I would have to setup as new. Every. Single. Time. The other alternative was to create a guest network just for the lock as a work-around.

That’s just unacceptable.

I read about connection issues in the reviews before purchasing but it wasn’t until I actually owned it that I realized just how bad the issue is. I have a GOOGLE mesh network and this lock can not stay connected.

After spending quite a while googling for answers I found out why. This lock for some reason does not like dual band networks that use a single SSID. It was very frustrating to not even find this issue through Google itself, but in forums where people were trying to solve the issue themselves.

So DO NOT purchase this lock if you are going to be connecting via a mesh network that is dual band with a single SSID. When it’s functioning this lock is excellent. Remote unlock, temporary codes, a complete log of what codes were used.

It’s the whole reason I bought the lock. Unfortunately, it does not work with my current internet set up. The fact that what I am trying to connect it with is another Google product makes the problem all the more frustrating.

Lock is what I was looking for at an affordable price. Unfortunately, I am unable to get the keypad to work correctly. After installing batteries, I would get a beep, but no other activity when pressing the buttons.

Asked for assistance from company, all they could/would do was resend the instructions. I dont want to go through the hassel of removing the handle, especially since I paid to have it installed. But I will have to search for a “working” deadbolt keypad.

Money wasted.

This deadbolt lock set is amazing. It’s easy to set up and fits perfect on a double lock door holes. There is only on hole you need to do which is the small one from he long handle , other than that it fits perfect.

The set up is easy and it makes your door look a lot better and high end. It got a nice finish and matches with many door colors. The instructions may look difficult to install but are pretty easy.

I just installed this today. And compared to two other brands of similar locks that I’ve owned this one is a lot better than those. First off, the packaging was perfectly laid out in the box, with everything in a secure padded location.

The directions were clear and straight-forward and install was easy. I had trouble pairing at first ONLY because I inadvertently downloaded the wrong Eufy app. Once I downloaded the correct one, pairing with my phone was immediate.

I put this through a number of tests and so far everything has worked smoothly and exacty as it should. It looks good, although the size was a little surprising when I opened the box, but still not too large.

The fingerprint reader read my prints easily on the first try. I though this would be a problem since I do a lot of manual labor and my fingertips are rough and tough. No problem there. The big test for this unit, where the others have failed, is winter.

We have long cold winters here in Michigan, near the Canadian border. I have a heated garage. Between the outside cold and the heated garage, condensation formed on the inside of the similar previous locks I’ve used, corroding the circuit board and rendering them useless in one winter.

I will update on this unit if anything of importance happens with my experience. Other than that, pleased with it so far.

eufy’s Solo Smart Lock D20 is a nice starter smartlock – easy installation, easy app, good integrations, and good hardware make it an easy upgrade to your home security. I wish it worked with Apple HomeKit.

TL;DR: – installation is easy, instructions are well-written, there’s even a video, all the parts are clearly labeled and shown to proper scale in the instructions – the software does what it says it does without much fuss – the lack of Apple HomeKit integration and the curved keys that cannot be duplicated (and therefore other non-eufy locks cannot match – although you could rekey multiple eufy devices) means 4 stars instead of 5.

Longer review: Install process: – Installation is super easy with well-labeled parts, and an almost intuitive step-by-step process that is well-written and also includes a video in the app so you can see exactly what they mean.

– eufy does a very smart thing in setting you up for success when you open the box: the acceptable dimensions for the door and allowances in the components are included in the setup, so you know if your door size/boring dimensions will work or if you should just rebox.

– the video is almost as quick as the installation. – all told, installation on my door took about 20-30 minutes (and that includes disassembly and reassembly of other safety features I had in place).

App/Software: – the App has a pretty standard setup sequence: create an account, set up 2FA (two factor authentication), and add your device via QR code scanning. Once that’s completed, the lock connects with your phone via Bluetooth.

The status of the lock can be checked and changed via the app (locked/unlocked) and there’s even a log including manual events (awesome). – the app has 2FA as part of the initial setup. – the response time from the app to the activation of the lock was very quick (like 2 seconds at most).

The update time was a smidge longer. – the lock updated on connection and took about 5 minutes, which isn’t too terrible Hardware: – the components seem well constructed with a minimum of fuss (probably a good reason they acquired the BMHA grade 2 certification – grade 1 is the best, grade 3 is acceptable.

Grade 2 should mean years of reliability for something that sees daily use and moderate impacts – like a door). – the big concern for most outdoor smart devices is weatherproofing, the IPX3 is a nice touch for Colorado winters, we’ll see if it lives up to the hype.

– the deadbolt mechanism itself is very smooth. There’s no jiggle to the components and the pieces looked pretty standard compared to other deadbolt internals. – the rounded keys are kinda cool, but that they can’t be duplicated is a feature better suited for short-term rentals (and an expensive one, eventually).

To make your entire home lock kit match the keys included, you’d have to replace every lock with eufy lock, which is also expensive. Ultimately, depending on your use-case, the eufy D20 is a (relatively) inexpensive jaunt into the world of smart locks and one that is stout enough to withstand the daily jarring likely to occur on a high-use home door.

Eufy Security Solo Smart D20 2nd generation lock looks like its predecessor with the addition of the inbuilt Wi-Fi that makes this lock to access remotely over web or smartphone. No additional hub/connect is required and this generation lock can be accessed 6 different ways ( Wi-Fi/app, included physical key, Bluetooth, passcode, voice recognition).

What’s in the box: Neat package with clear instructions. In the box – Lock (exterior assembly, interior assembly), deadbolt, strike plate, Strike Reinforcer, screws, 4x AA Batteries, 5 Keys, User Manual.

Before Installation of the lock, please download the eufy security app from iOS or android and create your account if this is the first time installing any eufy products. Installation/Setup: Installation is very straightforward if you have experience installing smart locks before.

Suggest reviewing the included manual or watch the installation video on YouTube for easy and quick installation. Installation for me took around 15 minutes. Lock is solid and is made of drill proof steel, BHMA Grade 2 security certification and is durable, build to last.

Also, this lock stores all in-app data using bank-grade security using AES 128 encryption chip to keep personal data safe and private instead of storing it on cloud. Keypad buttons are very well made.

There is a micro usb port on the exterior assembly below the keyhole for emergency unlocking using a portable power bank or charger when its out of battery power. You can always use the keys to unlock with no issues.

App: App on iOS is very intuitive. Download the app and create a new account by following the instructions and once complete, suggest to enable 2 factor authentication and face id for more security. Once done, click the add product and select the smart lock touch & Wi-Fi option and scan the QR code to start the calibration process.

Lock prompts by voice on the setup with Wi-Fi and calibration process similar to Nest/ring devices. Once completed you can set a passcode, create temporary code, pairing it with Alexa or google skills etc.

Entire setup process is painless. You have the option of viewing the history of lock/unlock operations including the user details (if multiple users with different codes are granted) in the app including timestamp.

Lock does have the option of auto locking in different time intervals that can be set in the app and automatically locks when a strong magnetic field is detected. Lock is weatherproof and rated IPX3 to withstand temperatures (-30 degree C and 70 degree C) or rain.

Wi-Fi connection is very stable and have longer range (approx. 650 feet) from router. Pros: Inbuilt ultra-stable long-range Wi-Fi (no connect required), Bank grade security, build to last, control from anywhere, automatic locking, multiple ways to unlock, Alexa/google voice compatible.

Cons: Price, Proprietary physical key (tough to rekey) Overall, this lock is very well built with drill proof steel, BHMA certified with advanced security options, smart Wi-Fi, Keyless entry, Bluetooth, voice recognition (Alexa/google) for lock/unlock at an affordable pricing for smart home setup.

I love everything about this product. I did not know that Eufy belongs to Anker, knowing that made me feel better and trust this more. I use so many anker products in my home and glad to add this in the list.

It came in nice package and looks exactly like in pics with beautiful color, design and nice finish. Very easy to install without any special skills, my husband just watched few videos and installed it in 10-15 minutes.

It has built in Wi-Fi and can be controlled by Eufy security app from anywhere or from Alexa. Finger print works very well and love the feature that it locks automatically once door is closed. Sensors work really great.

Looking at how great it works, I would definitely recommend this product to everyone and have already recommended to my friends and family.

Very durable lock, I have one installed outside exposed to elements on both sides and it still holds up. Bummer they don’t connect to home kit, they aren’t very sleek or streamlined, and the fingerprint doesn’t work great if you have really clean hands, but overall, much better than my Schlage encode which didn’t last a year, even on my main entry door which is traditional inside and outside.

These locks feel like they can take a beating, have a very unique key wherein the key slot is behind an unassuming cover. The app response time is very fast. I have eufy cameras as well so I’m impressed with their product.

I’m not going to lie, I was and am a little intimidated by my new eufy – Smart Lock Touch. Unboxing was a straightforward affair and the installation was aided through YouTube videos. I have been using my fancy new lock for a couple weeks now and have had to reach out to eufy support a few times.

As other reviews have stated, support wasn’t much help. I think my issues with the unit are due to user error. Will update my review once I have more confidence on the actual issues with the lock. I will say it functions as a deadbolt should so the lock works, lol.

I was told this product is compatible with the Yale door lock I have installed on my back door, after purchase and paying someone to install it did I find out it’s not. I’d have to buy a ring door bell to control this door lock from the app.

If I was given proper information I wouldn’t have purchased this useless door lock. Brand smart should train employees in the respective departments so customers can make knowledgeable decisions not the employee guessing to make a sale.

Sturdy lock with reliable performance. Opens and closes smoothly. Keypad buttons have a great feel to them. No concerns as long as the batteries last as long as advertised. Great set of simple but useful features.

Only feature I wish it had (but doesn’t) is one-time use keys.

I have purchased this type of lock before. But I threw away after multiple times to get the mechanicals to work. I tried everything I could, but the lock won. Since I got the lock off the internet I don’t have time to make these things right.

Consider other brands in your purchase.

I purchased the Vision product from their website. The packaging is good and fancy. The install is however not that great; the front plate that I attached with the provided adhesive didn’t hold well.

I had to get someone to hold it while I installed the inner plate. When I connected the 2 halves with the provided screws, I noticed that as I tightened the screws the upper part of the outer plate developed a gap with the door.

So now I have a gap between the door and the lock which I eventually caulked. The wiring install is fine but connecting the battery compartment to the inner plate needed some work as their instruction on tucking the wire inside the provided plastic notch didn’t work; I had to use black tape.

Finally after I connected all the pieces together the lock would not find the hub although they were within the specified distance. I can’t understand the need for the hub and that why it needed a wired connection with the router in today’s world when everything is wireless.

The lock took some trial and error to establish the connection with the base; however my pain didn’t end there as the Video feature for which I bought the lock failed to work. I spent the next 2 weeks patiently working with someone from customer service to help investigate the product and finally I was told that I would get a replacement and got charged for 1/2 the price of the lock; Lockly didn’t trust that I would send the malfunctioning lock back and so as a security they kept the deposit.

I installed the replacement lock and yes again there developed a gap when I tightened the inner and outer plate and which I have to re-caulk. Positive outcome is that the video works now. However I’ve had a case when someone rang the bell and it only notified me on my phone after a 8 min delay causing me to not receive a critical delivery.

I mailed the malfunctioning lock back and after multiple follow ups just got refunded the deposit that they took because of their mistrust of me. Kind of a heart warming feeling isn’t it that the company with whom you spend premium $$ for their product does not trust you.

Based on the product imperfections and the quality of service I’m considering returning their entire order back but weighing it against the time and effort already sunk into it. I can earnestly never recommend this to any of my friends and family.

Lastly Lockly requested for my review but refused to post the above on their reviews; I guess they want to hide the truth of their operations and their product.

I purchased this lock after phoning to confirm it had the features I wanted. I specifically asked if it had proximity unlock, where it would unlock the door when I approached with my cell phone, and was told it did have that feature.

After installing it, I tried to follow the instructions to set up the fingerprint, but they were so unclear I had to phone in to have them guide me through it. The doorbell video feature is quite useless too.

If I am not home, I won’t know if someone rings the doorbell. Even if I am home and hear it, by the time I unlock my phone, open the app and view the video they will likely have given up and left. I then asked how to set up the proximity feature and was told that the lock did not have that feature! It was one of the main reasons for purchasing such an expensive lock.

Very disappointed! Don’t waste your money. I could have bought a lock and separate video doorbell for less money and had the features I wanted but was misled by one of their customer service reps. Apparently Lockly only allows positive reviews on their site.

They rejected this review.

If you think the camera would work like a doorbell camera out on the market, dont waste your money on this model. I like the lock features, but paying the price tag is not worth it. The camera does not have motion sensor, does not record on its on, visitors have to ring the doorbell so you can open the app and activate the camera to be able to record through it.

So your packages or anyone trying to break in wont be recorded. No night vision either, so unless there is a light on at night, you wont be able to see whos at the door. Youre better off buying one of their locks without the camera.

Theyre about $200 less. The lock on its own with the key pad, finger print, and phone app controlled would make it to a 5 star product, I wish I would of done my research before purchasing this model.

I would of bought one of their other models without a camera and a door bell camera that has, motion detection, night vision, continues recording, for about the same price combined. Dont buy this model, its a waste of money.

This is a great solution to allow multiple people access to my home. It is more secure than my old key lock system and it works with HomeKit. The install was a little trickier than the videos I watched and a little more difficult but nothing that I could not handle with the tools I had.

The bolt is a little thicker that my old lock and I had to widen the round hole to make it fit. I accomplished this by using a wood rasp and going slow so that the new bolt fit snug. I also had to use a chisel to deepen the strike plate in the jam.

Removing the old strike plate resulted in one of the screws breaking and this caused some issues. Removing the old screw was very difficult as it was small in diameter and I did not have an extractor that small.

So I left it in and deepened the plate seat with the chisel and inserted a new long screw in a pre drilled hole at a small angle. All problems solved and the lock worked smoothly. I then programmed the lock using the app which I downloaded and after a firmware upgrade I was able to program 1) residents they have different rights 2) guests less rights and 3) one time access.

This carried over to HomeKit when I added the lock to HomeKit. All in all the lock looks great on my door , the install did not require a locksmith, and it works with the app and HomeKit. I would recommend this lock highly with the caveat that the install may not be as easy as the video shows and may require some adjustments.

As far as purchasing from build. com they were great the price was competitive the order process was easy and delivery was fast and on time. Now that I have found build. com if I have another project I look at their website first they were that good!.

I have four other Schlage Sense locks that I think are just the greatest product ever. You can assign codes remotely with the app, you can unlock the door remotely, you can even use it as a monitor because it can be set to notify you if the door is locked or unlocked by someone electronically using the keypad or with the knob.

I was waiting for this item to be released all spring and when I finally got the notification email, I jumped at the chance to purchase it. I was excited when it arrived and installed it immediately.

I have previous experience and already had the app, so it was a breeze. I was then amazed at how quiet it was when operating. The Schlage Sense is a little loud and you can hear it through most of the house, but the new version is very quiet.

Of course, it makes some noise, but a marked improvement over the previous version. I even used Siri to create some shortcuts. I was looking most forward to using my Iwatch or iphone NFR feature, but unfortunately my iphone X does not support that feature.

I will have to save that for when I upgrade my phone or watch in the future. I plan to buy more.

I bought this lock last year. I love this lock. This is a high quality lock and also offers great convenience. Very easy to operate. The smart feature is great. The App is super friendly and very easy to maneuver.

What I love the most about this lock is I can create passcodes for multiple users and every time the lock is used, I receive notification which user is using the lock. The codes can be easily created and deleted.

I purchased 2 of this lock. One in nickel and one in black. Although the black is nicer and more of nowadays style, but it’s easier to view the numbers on the stain nickel. So if your door is located in a dark spot, the satin nickel is a better choice.
