20 Best Locking Gel For Dreadlocks (2023 Updated)

I have been using Lion Locs products for a month now and I never knew my dreadlocks could be so soft. My dreads are 4years old and I have thick Mexican hair and a dandruff problem. The co wash shampoo is magic.

Not only does it get out my dandruff it makes my dreads so soft! My scalp loves the growth oil, soaks right in. I now realize the products I was using before really dried out my hair and made my dandruff worse! I will be using Lion Locs for the rest of my dreadlocks journey.

A little goes a long way! I use the locking moisturizer just on my roots when I retwist or style my locs. Also good for lightly laying down fly aways along the hairline between washings. I just use a dab of this and then tie down with a scarf for 5-10 minutes.

No build up, lint, or residue since I’ve used it the past year. Excellent!.

Lion loc has terrible customer service. I order $75 wroth of product I never received. When I contacted them to let them know, they said there was nothing they could do due to the fact their delivery company said it was delivered.

When asked for a refund they refused, asked if they can replace my order and send it to a different address they refused. This is truly poor customer service at it best. Their only suggestion was to repurchase more of their product at a discounted rate which basically mean give me more of your money to f*** you over.

I mean why would I feel comfortable ordering anything from this company knowing how bad I was treated the first time.

I’ve been using this product now for a few months. I have type 4b hair so I my hair takes real good to it cause it’s kinda curly. Makes my twists look tight and stretchy and nice looking. Definitely recommend!.

I love Rasta Locks line of products. Although I use Murray’s Iver this I like to mix some of this in when retwisting my man or my sons hair. Thicker jelly like texture and love the mango / lime smell.

Just recently started dreads in one of my sons head and this product does wonders ! No yucky build up ! Great smell ! No sticky fingers when done doing the hair! Very reasonably priced about $6 a jar ! One jar last for about 5 retwist so I would say about $1 of product during each application on the head which is cheap as heck ! Definitely recommend over using bees wax !.

This stuff is AMAZING on locks. My man has very coarse hair and natrual hair! So it will most likely work on both loose and tight curls. We have been using Mango twist. With this one I only have to lock his hair every 2 weeks but with any other one it’s every week.

This stuff is BOSS. If you are having trouble with your locks definitely give this stuff a go! I got ours from Amazon for like 12 or under.

This is pretty much like a huge jar of edge control. It smells nice and will give you a sleek look, but I must stress that this is not a traditional gel. I would only use this to install braids and other protective styles for a sleek finish.

But this isn’t it for the wash n go/twist out/braid out natural. This does give shine and some extra moisture though!.

This was abosultely amazing. I recently learned to braid my own hair and this helped with gripping and making the sections neat. The entire castor oil line is really great for protective styling. You can even use this to do your edges.

The best locking gel i used thus far! I just started my locs yesterday and it’s not greasy, doesn’t flake, not sticky but holds firm! Some people say this loc gel flakes but the trick with any locing gel is to use a spray bottle and have your hair damp/wet and then apply the gel.

I hope they don’t ever change the formula because i will use this for life! It has natural ingredients and not too many ingredients which is a win for me!.

Love it, used it for years! It works better on hair that is difficult to loc. I have soft wavy curls and this hold my hair perfectly. My sister has 4c hair and this does not hold her locs, I noticed for thicker tight curls this is not the product to use.

I honestly don’t like this product. I do my sisters hair every month and I choose “Jamaican mango and lime black wax” I only use this locking gel when I run out. She has really kinky hair and it doesn’t hold 1 bit.

As a hairstylist and curly (2c to 3b mixed irish/italian hair girl). I love the co wash. Its lo poo and moisturizing. The condition/mask is good. Could be a little more softening. The oil is a 10!!! Only use it at the end.

and the shine is amazing!!! The shampoo is great for me for every other wash. My hair is ultra clean after using it. I have yet to try the cream/gel!! And the manuka honey I love the smell and I can tell a difference in my hairs cleanliness.

I do like this product – it definitely holds my curls during the day without leaving them feeling ‘crunchy’. I do feel as though I need to use a lot of product to get the desired result though, and will likely switch to a stronger hold gel next time and just scrunch out the gel cast myself, allowing my curls to still look soft and not crunchy.

It definitely is light hold though so if you have fine, curly hair like me that tends to go a bit flat, something stronger might be better.

I purchased this product hoping for great results with my curls. After reading the reviews I decided to give it a try. This product did not work for me. The smell is great, but it left my hair with that crunchy feel.

I tired it 3 different times adjusting the amount I used and nothing helped. Very disappointed that it didn’t work for me.

I really like this gel to be honest. It’s the first I’ve used that doesn’t give a lot of buildup, doesn’t flake, doesn’t leave your hair feeling like hardened bread (unlike most actually) and most importantly, Leaves your hair looking naturally and effortlessly styled!.

It’s nice. All you have to do is apply it, brush it down and then boom! You’re done. BUT it also does something else. It ITCHES! Terribly. This is the best edge control twist gel by far!!! My bun was smooth for like 3days, it’s so sticky and lays the hair down instantly. Loc N is definitely worth the price.

So far so good, my new growth has stayed together all during the day and at night , little bit of water on the new growth and gel helps and little bit goes a long way but it looks black but it is clear.

Can we get a BOOOOOOO! I used this ONCE while in undergrad and it was terrible. Sticky and gross! Left my locs feeling like there! There really is no drying happening so if feeling like you put lard on your locks.

I randomly went into the hair store one day to do my boyfriend and I hair. This product jumped out at me for some reason. Whether it was the color or the name but I had to try it. Haven’t used anything else since.

I love this product! My hair is raven, but is naturally blonde, very Fine, and dries out and gets oily too fast! Having to wear my hair in a bun for work 5 days a week can do damage. Then add in the wispies that won’t stay down.

My hair type is coily and wavy at the same time! 🙂 which makes for a real challenge but Lock It Up has the ability to truly keep my locs locked! and without any negative aftereffects with my hair or scalp!.

I have 3a/b curls. Been straightening for a few years and now back to staying curly. This product isn’t really a gel, it’s more of a cream and even looks like a cream coconut product. I’m not a fan of heaping product in my hair; after watching a few videos, it seems to be the way to go for defined, non-frizzy curls.

I can apply this generously to my hair and there isn’t a weighty or sticky feel once my hair has dried which is great! Its also packed with fruit, flower and nut oils so I’m not worried about applying this generously (or so I feel its generous but this is considering I only ever used to apply a light oil to my hair before) It doesn’t seem to form a strong cast that I’m expecting yet I have had decent results but I’m still playing around with this product and its most likely that after years of straightening, it’s my hair that’s in need of deep treatments to eradicate the frizz once and for all otherwise I do get nice, defined curls from this product.

I’ve also been able to use this on dry hair and been able to finger-coil hair but at this point, you will feel some residue once it’s dried, although it doesn’t show so perhaps regulate the amount used on dry hair.

Its a generous sized tub at a fair price. I personally don’t like the smell of shea or cocoa butters or coconut oil so was afraid of the after effects but had no need to worry. Plus it doesn’t leave a strong smell in your hair either once it’s dried, it’s subtle if anything.

I currently use it with the Cantu Hair Custard. I apply that first to soaking wet hair, then apply the Twist n Lock Gel. They both seem to do the trick. Curls stay for most of the day.

Package came super quick can’t wait to use the product bigger than what I thought it would be I love the fact sulfur 8 has mad a braiding gel well needed on the fact my daughter has very dry scalp

I actually surprisingly enjoy this 1. ) It smells good. 2. ) The gel feels nice like it feels like you are just touching air(good at exaggeration) 3. ) It is surprisingly good with twist ( I tried dreads it just feels like you are making curls with your hair ( I mean it’s good ).

If I had enough money I honestly would buy this again.

This gel is okay. I don’t get as good of a hold as I do with the black lid (resistance formula). It worked okay but I did have to keep my locs clipped longer under the dryer.

Worked very well for doing spring twists in my hair. It also works well for smoothing my edges and as an edge control. The only thing I found as an issue is that it ruined my nail polish I had on while using the product.

Just be careful if you have on regular nail polish. It contains glycerin and glycerin removes polish.

I have frizzy hair this work great on my locs for loc maintenance or just touching up the front. It does not turn my hair white, does not make my scalp itchy, nor make my hair oily.

It great I dont like the fact that I did not get the size that I ordered I got 8 small sizes but I guess I have to adjust.

I love this product, specifically when braiding. I love to add a little protein gel, or egde control gel to each parted section of my hair, prior to starting my Ghana cornrow braids. So when I stumbled upon this product, I had to give it a try and loved it.

It provided added moisture and sheen and just really helped my braids look really good and tamed. Atfer completing my braids, they looked so neat.

I used to help lock my sons hair. Held up pretty good. It Smells absolutely amazing. It had a nice texture and seemed to have plenty of nutrients in it as well. I have purchased multiple jars and will continue to buy more.

Also its not sticky like so thats a plus for me.

This is a really good twisting cream. It smells so good. Maybe a little too much but it holds my twist nicely and some of my best Bantu knots were done with this. Definitely would buy this again. And 100% recommend for a cheap twisting cream.
