20 Best Liquor For Hot Toddy (2023 Updated)

Fireball is one of my favorite flavored whiskeys! It’s cinnamon spice and everything nice. That has a smooth consistency it’s kind of thick. I wouldn’t serve cold it has an amazing cinnamon flavor almost like big red bubblegum in liquid form.

It also has a little bite to it. You will absolutely know that it is whiskey. I love it with ginger ale,Dr Pepper, cream soda, and also to kick up my Irish coffee.

I was straight edge until about a year and a half ago. Though I’ve done my fair share of partying growing up as a punk and constantly going to gigs and get together, I was almost 23 when I had my first drink.

My whole life I grew up hearing how fireball was disgusting and just a cheap buzz. I agree to disagree. I like the taste and it gets the job done. If you don’t mind “spicy” flavors (think big reds) then seriously consider giving this a try on a night out.

SoCo and Dr Pepper (or mr pibb) is my jam. I dont drink soda and I really only drink wine now, but if I do reach for liquor, its this combo. I like the slightly almond-y flavor it has and its just so smooth.

I am not really a fruity drink kind of person (unless its sangria, lets be real) and used to only drink jameson and ginger. So this is a great option where you can get something that tastes good and is easy to drink.

My dad used to make me white Russians when I’d visit him. I can’t seem to duplicate how he made them. However, When I’m feeling reminiscent I’ll buy Khaluas version. Its the next best thing to my dads.

They’re creamy but not overly sweet. If you like coffee liqueur Kahlua is the best brnd.

Env: development My first time tasting southern comfort was a relaxing night out with my friends. I had enough of the taste of beer and the strong burning sensation of vodka, so I decided to experiment with a different drink.

one of my friends recommended Southern comfort and I soon found out why. I ordered a southern comfort with a dash of lemonade as recommended. straight away I was amazed by the taste and aromas of the fruit and spices of the drink which complemented the flavour of the lemonade.

I also tasted it “on the rocks” (with ice only) and I was astonished by the flavour of whiskey that didnt sting the my throat, just tingled my sences with the rich flavour. The alcohol content is 35% which is strong but the product is can be consumed easily and enjoyably “goes down like water”.

I have been drinking regular Southern Comfort for several years. when the 80 proof was introduced I tried it, but it was harsh and nasty for my liking. Then a friend intrduced me to the 100 proof, wow! It’s a perfect blend with no harsh or biterness.

I wish the dining establishments would offer this (the 100 proof) instead of the regular. This is nice!!!.

Simply add 1.5 shots of jim beam peach over ice and add favorite iced tea. (I ENJOY ARIZONA ARNOLD PALMER LITE HALF AND HALF BRAND) it goes down easy and refreshing.

I’ve been on a fireball kick lately, so when I saw Cinerator at the liquor store last night I decided to give it a try since it’s 91 proof, and only thing I don’t like about fireball is that it isn’t quite strong enough.

Cinerator just does not have that same warm, pleasant cinnamon taste though. It’s actually kind of nasty, and I’m no whiskey connoisseur but I can tell that the bad taste isn’t just because of the higher alcohol content.

I’ll probably be finding something to mix the rest of this bottle with to drown out the weird taste. I don’t really know how to describe the taste any better, I want to say “chemical-y” but that’s probably not the right word.

All I can say is that if you’re a fan of fireball, you’re probably not going to like Cinerator. 2 stars for it at least getting me drunk for cheap.

Hard to beat fireball, but it’s tolerable given the alcohol content. I miss the sweetness and the following burn, which is less. The aftertaste is a bit like cheap watered down whiskey. That’s my impression after sipping on one shot, so it might grow on me (Hope so since I just brought home the big bottle!).

edit. It hits you pretty hard! Buzzing after five minutes!.

While the sweetness is over done, I love the cinnamon heat with the 95 Proof fire that it brings to the the sippin glass! I generally keep the bottle in the chiller and then mix it 1:1 with any of the lower grade Tullamore Dew or Bulleit options for a crude casual, but very enjoyable, sippin mix when you are just trying to take the edge off of a long day in the middle of a long week.

2-3 of these over the course of a good hot shower and a light meal will have your sore muscles relaxing and your body and mind ready for a good night’s sleep.

I recently bought a bottle of Old Oberholt. my favorite rye. at a local liquor store. On the way out of the store, I noticed the label was slightly different. When I got it home, I opened it, and instead of those nice warm rye aromas, there was this highly chemical raw alcohol smell.

make that stink. and later when I tasted it, it was worse than 6 month old skunk urine. I thought. ah ha, someone put a counterfeit bottle on the shelf. I went to. finally. their web site, and discovered to my dismay.

that a)Old Overholt as a company is no more. and b) indeed the new owner has decided to change the formula and the way it is distilled. If the company ever reads this, I would say. NO WAY. go back to what was a winning formulation and don’t mess with it.

Is absolutely the smoothest best tasting, mouth feel and aftertaste pure white moonshine I have ever tasted. I cannot seem to find another bottle of this stuff locally in Colorado. Anyone know how I can get my hands on a case? Seriously the smoothness and pure corn taste is amazing! That is if this is Brewed by Stillhouse Distillery in Cilpeper, VA.

This is a wonderfully smooth flavored whiskey. It’s slightly sweet but not overly. It is great on the rocks or also delicious mixed with gingerale. They also make an apple crisp whiskey and peace tea.

They are all delicious and are usually around $18. 00 in Massachusetts.

Well, I was hoping that this would be delicious on it’s own. In reality this will be a good MIXING whiskey, The flavor is a bit rough on the pallet. Overall, take the advice of the lid and mix with some cranberry juice and soda for a better rounded drink.

Didn’t really enjoy it on it’s own, perhaps they designed them for mixing and I’m just the weirdo who wanted it straight up.

As being a guy who normally goes for Jameson Irish whiskey, I ran across Proper No. Twelve and decided to give it a try. I read a review by some “professional” blow hard saying it was less than expected.

his over the top explanation basically told me that he is not a fan of Connor McGregor and that his whiskey would pay for that slight of prejudice. My personal opinion of the Proper No. Twelve is, smooth, rich, with a spice finish.

It actually reminded me of a Havana made Monte Cristo No. 4 cigar finish. I could taste the honey and very little vanilla but it’s there. Flavor: I actually like the Proper over my normal Jameson. I like the spicy finish.

It may be a sin to say, but I think I like the Proper No. Twelve a bit better. It is smooth with a bite. To me it has flavor, texture, and it’s smooth. I like it quite a bit, but everyone has different tastes.

I am also a fan of the cork topper! Being the non- conformist punk rocker type, I am going to go with the Proper No. Twelve over the Jameson I have been drinking for many years now.

I had seen this bottle on the shelf for a while a decided to give it a try. Gotta say for the price I’m disappointed. A good whiskey is layered and has several levels of taste to sort through. This whiskey is shallow, and while fairly mild in taste, leaves the palette lacking.

No decernible taste profile. The first hint of disappointment comes with with the bouquet, which renders a harsh, alcohol forward fragrance. Not the oaky or sweet notes one hopes to acquire from a good whiskey.

I tried several glasses of this stuff, both on the rocks and neat hoping that my initial opinions would change, unfortunately they grew darker with each glass. This is an average to below average whiskey, marketed as a mid to higher end whiskey.

I’ll save you the $40 and recommend buying something else.

Perhaps this would be better to clean my shower or desk with than to drink. I have NO idea how ANYONE could call this a good whiskey. It’s seriously like the ten dollar bottles you’d buy in college. for thirty bucks.

The only cool thing about this bottle is the bottle which looks like a hipsterized vintage 1920’s bottle. Good looking on the shelf until you open it. Even mixing it with soda or ginger ale leaves a harsh and astringent taste.

You could put sugar in gasoline and have a similar tasting product. Ever since Jay Z became a billionaire selling mediocre champagne and cognac, there’s been a race to see what celebrity could make the most money by endorsing a liquor.

Unfortunately the result is a bunch of gross, nasty junk. Anyone who argues that Tito’s is a luxury vodka would probably enjoy proper 12. Anyone who doesn’t drink jagermeister in shot form on a night out would find this Proper 12 offensive and terrible.

Sorry, just calling it like I taste it. This is a chemical cash grab. Skip this and if you must get Jameson, Tullimore Dew or Glen Moray. Better yet, for around the same price grab some Glennfidich or Langevin.

Just opened a bottle of Hot Damm …terrible stuff no cinnamon flavor at all !!!!! Very disappointed, have been buying it for over 25yrs .!!!!!

Just like the title… this is a great cinnamon liquor that goes down smoothly with a fiery heat in your belly. I recommend this for anyone who loves cinnamon and liquor.

I love this stuff! It is so delicious like aftershock. They both burn, but heck, what alcohol doesn’t!? My brother-in-law layers this with peppermint snapps for a burn them cool affect, delicious!

DISCLAIMER that I am an Islay lover – Ardbeg Uigeadail and Laphroaig Quarter Cask are two of my favorite whiskeys, so keep that in mind when reading the following review: Total Wine’s current High West Prairie Bourbon Barrel Select is finished in a PEATED whiskey cask.

If you don’t like peated whiskeys, STAY AWAY. If you enjoy them, read on. I actually bought this store pick without reading the barrel finish on the side of the bottle. I just saw the black label and figured, “High West, store pick, 100+ proof, what the hell?” So once I get it home I was ecstatic when I checked the bottle and it says it’s been finished in peated whiskey barrels.

I popped open the bottle and, I kid you not, it was like opening a bottle of Laphroiag 10 – the peat is immediately strong and overwhelming – there’s no coming back from it once you’re in. There was a very small hint of bourbon distillate trying to peak through, but the peat was totally overwhelming at first.

I poured it into a glencairn, same deal. Tasted it, same deal. At the time I did not compare it directly to Bruichladdich Port Charlotte, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, or Laphroiag, etc. / but the taste was so overwhelmingly dominated by peat that I couldn’t think of anything but Laphroiag 10.

After this I poured my brother-in-law a dram to get the golden liquid down to the shoulder of the bottle and corked it up again. I didn’t touch it again for 6 weeks. NOW, I poured it into a glencairn and got immediate bourbon notes of cherry, vanilla, brown sugar, but there was also a creeping earthy burn that was starting to develop on the nose.

Memory took me immediately to bourbons with toasted oak finishes, but with a seaside saltiness that I’m not accustomed to with bourbon. At this point, the peat is almost muted, and is providing a beautiful background complexity to familiar bourbon flavors.

Now that the drink has rested in the glass for about 15 minutes, the peat becomes more powerful, but it never overwhelms the sweetness of High West’s original distillate. It matures in the glass to become a gorgeously complex journey from dark brown sugar, vanilla, and spiced oak into a lightly spiced midpalate and a darkly medicinal, smokey finish.

What a whiskey! Not for the faint of heart or those who don’t like the smokey ones. For me, Total Wine knocked it out of the park with this one. I hated it when I first opened it, but after giving it a few weeks to open up in the bottle, it was incredible.

I just reread my two year old review of Double Rye! when I rated it 5 stars. It has been one of my whiskey staples since. I don’t remember when I bought my last bottle, but my son and I immediately noticed a big difference in taste compared to previous bottles.

I read the back label, and instead of describing the blending of 2 and 16 year old ryes, it said that both are a minimum of 2 years old. I feel cheated, as, despite an identical bottle (I think), this is a totally different rye without the sweet, fruity, spicy complexity of the original.

It’s not bad, just pretty one dimensional, and as such, grossly overpriced. I would highly recommend any of the Redemption Ryes over this. Even the cheapest of those is excellent and far less expensive.

All that being said, on the TW website, the description is still 2 & 16 year old rye, so maybe the change was temporary. I would consider trying another bottle if it describes the original 2 & 16 y. o.

Initial taste is very smokey, and charred, almost spicy. Then I realized it was finished 9 months in a peated barrel cask that was used for scotch! that explained the smokiness, and once I knew it the spiciness diminished and the smoke flavor rose.

Scotch drinkers who like the Islay malt style should try this. Would be great with BBQ. Made especially for Total Wine, so not sure you can get this limited edition anywhere else. The High West website didn’t contain any writeup.

I notice that people seem to be having completely different responses to this whiskey, and it makes me wonder if there are large differences from batch to batch. I did get some burn on the back end, which others didn’t seem to experience.

In addition to the notes in the description, I also got a little bit of menthol on the back. That butterscotch is the first thing that hits me when I sip, followed by some woodiness. IMO, this whiskey was much improved with a little dilution, which tamed the burn and brought that menthol back to more of the vanilla note that is advertised.

I would have rated it lower before I tried diluting it. Diluted, I think it is OK, but you can certainly do better for the money.

Excellent a very flavorful, smooth experience. I was turned on by a friend who recommended a bottle. It did not disappoint. The flavors of vanilla and spice and maple compliments each other nicely. You have to be careful this is 100 proof but by the smoothness you wouldn’t think it was.

Been drinking this for years, then they stopped shipping it to stores for awhile. It’s finally back, and I highly recommend picking up a bottle. Great taste and flavor that goes down smoothly. I drink it straight, on the rocks.

But you can enjoy it however you like. Just enjoy it while you can.
