20 Best Liquid Chalk For Lifting (2023 Updated)

My hands sweat a lot, and it is problematic to me when I am doing gardening, wearing gloves, even baking mitts. A friend suggested that I try chalk, I nearly got regular chalk till I realized that they meant the chalk for athletes.

50ml. Well, for my use, a little bit goes a long way and really worked well. I didn’t have my garden gloves irritating my skin with my sweat, it was easier for me in the kitchen for appliances and my oven mitts, and when I had to wear gloves to help a few friends out around their house I didn’t have icky hands.

I also noticed that my grip was so much better while mixing baked goods when I used this, and opening jars, and packing up donations.

I really enjoyed this product. I bought it for deadlift and it’s so much easier to carry and control the mess vs loose chalk. I also like to just apply it to the top half of my palm to save product. Love this stuff! I have really sweaty hands and this allows me to lift way more with it than without.

A lot cleaner than the loose chalk too. Perfect for long weight lifting sessions or long WOD, where constantly chalking your hands may cost you precious time. This liquid chalk last long and doesnt smear, stays on your hand and not on the bar, and doesn’t wear that much off with sweat on your hands.

I highly recommend. I’ve actually bought this product twice now.

Let’s just say, if Ace Ventura had a bottle of this stuff in his chalk bag instead of his monkey companion Spike (who provided literally no help at all), the fury woodland raccoon would have never slipped from his grasp while climbing high in the Himalayas in the opening scene of “Ace Ventura – When Nature Calls”.

Don’t let your weights suffer the same fate as the raccoon, falling to their death.

I have the clammiest hands that I know of. I usually find myself chalking up 3-6 times during any workout. I was skeptical at first using Spider Chalk, but after any and all of my grip-centric workouts/exercises (cleans, arms, pullups), I’m 100% behind this stuff.

One single application has served me well every time I’ve used it–about 3 weeks now. Little to no mess as well.

This product has great grip and lasts a long time! I have used this product as a climber and I would normaly have to chalk up everytime I jump off a route. With Spider Chalk Liquid Chalk I am able to climb for longer amounts of time with minimal chalk breaks.

As an added bonus it smell amazing!.

I bought this a few weeks ago to test it out since my gym doesn’t allow powder chalk. It works well initially however, I am a very sweaty person so I had to keep reapplying to ensure I had a good grip.

I would recommend this to the average person but I think it didn’t work too well because of my dripping sweat.

I’ve used multiple brands of liquid chalk throughout the powerlifting career. Hands down Spider Chalk is the best! It lives up to the hype and one application can last for the span of your training session.

I guarantee you will be satisfied with this purchase.

I purchased several tubes of this product and used it for the first time yesterday, playing golf. The temperature was close to 90 degrees F, with high humidity; perfect weather conditions for hand perspiration relief.

Applied a reasonable amount in the palm of my strong hand and rubbed it around on the back side and palm of both hands. The product didn’t turn my hands white as some competing products do. After it dried, I gloved my one hand proceeded to play golf.

After no more than five minutes after the product drying, my hands were beginning to perspire almost as if there were no product applied. This experience is in contrast to competing products I historically used to mitigate hand sweat.

This product clearly underperformed in comparison to other products I’ve used. Given the product’s disappointing performance, I will not purchase this product again.

I have been using the Power Grip for over a year now. As a power lifter i have found this superior to magnesium chalk in that it leaves no mess and provides almost as good a grip as chalk. Plus as it leaves little residue behind, the gym management doesn’t get all bent when you use it.

However, i have found this produce to be inconsistent in packaging and volumetric quantity and very overpriced. I will explain as these are my opinions. 1ST, on price, if you go by the packaging this product costs $5.

80 per ounce. For those meatheads of you out there that’s the equivalent of a $94. 00 steak. This is compared to their direct competitor at less than half the price. Yes still expensive but they offer a better form factor for their product (by means of a larger thus more economical bottle).

2ND, the packaging, the glue on the paper backing does not completely secure the backing onto the plastic overmolding that encases the actual product tube. On multiple occasions in the retail display rack i have found what appears to be an opened package -which i promptly toss aside.

Why you ask? On some of the tubes (the ones i take home) there is a foil seal over the tube opening, on some there appears to be none. Now i’m not putting this stuff in my mouth or eyes, but i refuse to use products that don’t have a safety seal.

Call me cynical but there are some sick people out there. It seems that in even taking one home that appears to be an unopened still leaves you with the a risk of getting one that appears to have been tampered with.

3RD, lets talk volume or quantity. The packaging states there is 1. 7 fluid ounces in this tube. On two separate occasions i have individually emptied the contents of these tubes into a small measuring beaker (yep, i was really bored and exercising my geeky side) and i found the contents left wanting.

Another words, less than 1. 7 fluid ounces. Yes i did one that had a safety seal and one that did not. Both were short. Finally. , yes I’m about done, i even contacted Mission via their web and offered a few suggestions on how to improve their product and the overall customer experience -of course from the perspective of an athlete and a customer (i have done this with other athletic manufactures and suppliers).

I even offered them specific comparisons to competitive products and why i was finding those products more attractive than theirs. I was and I still am surprised that i have received no comment(s) in return.

Usually at worst when i take the time to provide constructive criticism i get a canned “thank you for your support” handshake via email. I wonder if they will post this being its not a shinny endorsement.

It is touted as a great weight lifting companion. Designed to dry out sweaty hands and keep them dry. As designed, it works tremendously. I purchase it to do the same for me on my tennis racket grip and it works as advertised.

I was hoping that it would also have a little stickem feel for my tennis grip but it doesn’t have any sticky feeling. It does dry the hands out and keeps them dry and that is what it is designed and written about to do.

I’m going to order this solely based on the review left by Chalkreviewer. Plus, this chalk seems to have that attitude of “I’m not gonna give in to the conventional uses on 1980 chalkboards, my life is too precious”.

and I think that’s great. Other chalks need to stand up and fight along side Bisonchalk. The chalks that won’t, should buy and use a trusted brand of human hand skin and get a grip on the reality that is a chalk’s life.

Every gram counts. And if Eco-friendly chalks have negative attitudes towards those whom rise up, say “hey, this is the way I was born, and I’m happy with that”. Furthermore, every blade of grass cooking up Flintstone side characters, turning tricks down on Magnolia, with boots consuming formidable aerospace sock-lords, needs to know this.

Don’t believe the other reviews, the bad ones or the good ones. Just believe the chalk. I’m updating this chalk review because the old Bison Competition Chalk isn’t sold here anymore, though this new chalk is the same as the old chalk.

What’s changed is the digital location of this product, and that means what’s changed isn’t real, or at least it isn’t the kind of real that the R in REI stands for. Now to the chalk review. Bison Chalk is great.

It’s just chalk, yes, but it’s just great chalk. It’s like ground up angels. without having to hurt angels. It’s like fresh whipped cream. but dry. It’s like putting silk gloves on. except it’s really chalk gloves.

When you use this chalk while climbing, it is like a second, far smaller climber you are holding on to, carrying you up the wall. When you use this chalk in front of climbers, they will ask what chalk it is exactly.

I’ve made friends because of this chalk, and enemies, I’m sad to say. I met my husband because of this chalk. When I put this chalk on my hands, my husband says, “this chalk is a metaphor for our love.

” This chalk is like a lover that can’t stand the angle at which you fall. This chalk is like an animal’s beating heart in your hands going quiet. This chalk is like the animal that has forfeited its heart to a mysterious chain of being.

This chalk. could be cheaper. Now to respond to a few of the bad and good reviews: SamGoingWest says, “This isn’t chalk, but rather a chalk powder that soaks up your sweat and becomes slippery. Not only do your hands become slippery; but if you’re sweating, you’re gonna sweater right through it!” SamGoingWest is getting granular here, and I, like anybody reviewing chalk, get excited when things get granular, especially when it comes to figuring out what “chalk” is, exactly.

SamGoingWest claims it’s more of a “powder”, and he’s not wrong. It does feel like powdered sugar, the sweet lusciousness of which I alluded to in my original review in the metaphor of whipped cream.

It doesn’t taste like powdered sugar (nor whipped cream), however, and I have tasted both (this chalk and powdered sugar)(and whipped cream). In a rave review titled “Great chalk!” Nvcoyote7 writes, “I like the way it feels.

Super smooth. I don’t know if its my hands but it seems to stay on my hands better than a few other chalks I’ve had. ” I don’t mean to be rude, nvcoyote7, but it is not your hands in particular. I imagine your hands are special, but I doubt they are the kind of special that retain this chalk better than other hands.

This chalk is special because it is a new set of hands on top of your hands, as I mentioned in my original review. None writes, “Been climbing for thirty years and this is one of the worst chalks I have ever used.

Hard to get out of the container without making a mess and clumps up while using. Literally fell off my hands unless I rubbed it into my hands. Will not buy again. Please go back to selling chalk in block form.

” I have been climbing for 31 years, in fact, and I think that extra year has leant me a bit of perspective, if I may say so. In those 31 years, I have learned that merely putting something onto your hands isn’t a guarantee that that something will not fall off them.

None complains that you have to “rub” the chalk into your hands, as if the chalk should rub itself into your hands. It is my opinion that this chalk already gives so much, so why can’t we give it something in return (for example, a brief rubbing of it into our hands)? And what’s more, None’s formalist critique at the end, delivered via an innuendo that blocks are better, a priori, than velvety formlessness, is unconvincing even as innuendo.

For personal reasons, I am changing my original 4-star review to 5. I am still married to my husband, who also likes this chalk.

Great chalk if you have abnormally sweaty hands. Fine powder consistency that easily coats your hands and sucks up the sweat for the length of an average boulder problem and most of a small 30ft sport climb.

It’s also pure magnesium carbonate, no fillers that may irritate your skin like some of the budget minded chalks. The reviews that state it makes holds and their hands slippery are using too much chalk and gumming up the holds which will happen with any chalk, that’s why they make brushes.

for chalk-o-holics. REI use to stock this in store but I can only find it online now, worth the wait though.

Pretty disappointed with this stuff. I gave it a try every workout for a week and it never lasted more than 2 sets of any exercise, even from the beginning of a workout before I could even get that sweaty.

And that’s a real problem during a workout consisting of 50-60 sets total exercises. I tried using a small amount and a large amount and no matter what this stuff comes off too easily on the parts of my hands that actually contact the bar/dumbbell.

The worst part is you’ll only get a really good “cure” of the product on your hands at the very first application. I tried several times during different workouts to go wash my hands and dry them before re-applying this stuff.

But even after that I continue to sweat and it doesn’t dry as quickly. That’s another problem, this stuff takes at least a minute to dry. I don’t like standing around for that long during my workout waiting for some lotion to dry.

This stuff is a great concept but the technology isn’t there yet. I suggest you instead use regular chalk, or just invest in a very absorbent towel for your hands. At least with regular chalk, you still have to re-apply every few sets but you do not have to wait for it to dry.

If your gym doesn’t allow chalk, find a new gym.

I wanted to use this throughout the summer before reviewing and I am incredibly impressed. I sweat a TON and it always effects my grip. With COVID craziness chalk was nearly impossible to find for a while so I tried out this.

I put it on in the beginning of a workout and there is still some grip left by the end. Dries fast. A little goes a long way. Very pleasant smell. Over I’m quite satisfied.

I have tried other brands of liquid chalk and none are as good as liquid grip. Even tried making some myself. It sounds expensive for chalk but it lasts a long time and you don’t get chalk all over the gym.

Besides in these times of hyper vigilant germ detection it is actually antiseptic.

I bought this as a stocking stuffer for a couple of my pampered, entitled children who climb. They weren’t sure about it, but have seen professional climbers use it at competitions around the world, so were impressed that I saw them as they saw themselves.

Both of them have used it, and have found it especially helpful when bouldering after an already full day of climbing with powdered chalk. They like it, and have stated they want me to buy them more when they run out.

Too bad for them Christmas is over.

I sweat a fair bit while climbing and have regularly been using liquid chalk as a base for years. While I think mammut makes the best quality liquid chalk, this doesn’t seem to be much different. It feels colder for a moment when you put it on which is a nice.

For the quantity you get, it’s nearly double the price of standard mammut liquid chalk. Can’t say I recommend it over the original.

I’m a big guy that loves to climb, my hands also get really sweaty just from me looking at routes/problems/obstacles. From this, I’ve become a chalk connoisseur and have tried nearly every powder chalk I can find in stores or online.

I have found my favorite powder chalk which creates massive amounts of friction, but I needed an equally powerful liquid chalk that will prevent my hands from losing chalk just after a few holds (I know there are plenty of you out there with the same problem).

Mammut is absolutely amazing by itself. I went from having to chalk up every 1-2 minutes to 3-5 minutes. I can even use it by itself as it’s so good, but I like to keep mammut as my base and have a powder chalk as a second layer.

They complement each other, double my movements with before chalking, and improve my grip. $15 is not that much to invest in this, think about all the time and effort you put into your training. Trust me, it’s a world of a difference.

Also, as the grand topping on it all, you now don’t have to worry about the gym employees/owners chewing you out for using loose chalk or making the slightest mess using a chalk ball.

I like that the chalk is easy to apply. when standing on the ground. Cream spreads easy and dries quickly. I can spread on my hands and start climbing a few moments later. It coats my hands nicely, and I am able to get even coverage where I want it.

However, I did find it to be a bit dusty as soon as I start moving my fingers. This isn’t a huge issue for me. Definitely provided pretty good grip and helped me get a few difficult holds. The only real issue for me is that I cannot easily reapply while moving up the wall.

I would buy it again though, and keep it in my bag in case I ever need it.

Without taking price into account, I would probably give it a 4 star review. Compared with dry chalk it is more convenient, cleaner, less wasteful in the gym. One drawback is that it takes time to dry.

Not much, but a non zero amount, which is more time than dry talk takes. So there is a wait period after chalking up. Another is convenience mid route. Not a big deal if you aren’t on the wall too long or are just bouldering.

Compared with other liquid chalks? I have no idea. This is the first I’ve tried. The reason for the low rating is price. Twenty dollars for a 75 ml bottle is very steep. I recommend buying your own squeeze tube, powdered chalk(magnesium carbonate) in bulk, and your own rubbing alcohol.

I saw a recipe online, should have used it myself, check one out for proportions. Use your blender, adjust recipe for desired thickness if needed, pour into the squeeze tube. Store excess in some airtight container.

Ready made is convenient, but the price is outrageous really. The secret is the customer is paying too much.

I haven’t used other liquid chalks so can’t compare. However, only a small amount is needed to cover the hand and once dried it lasts a long time. I’m using it following a tip I saw to help with hook grip by applying liquid chalk before normal chalk.

The liquid chalk removes moisture from the hands and helps the chalk from the chalk block adhere to the hands. This is works great and I’ll definitely be buying this again next time.

This chalk actually dries your hands off completely. Not comparable to any other chalks I used, as it is almost as if your hands have glue on them. Would 100% recommend, especially for hook grippers with small hands 😊.

I’m not usually a fan of liquid chalk but this stuff is better than any I’ve tried before. It gives a good coating of the hands, provided a good amount of grip and is long lasting. I would definitely recommend.

I am not able to use solid chalk in my gym due to good ol’ COVID so we are relegated to liquid chalk. This stuff is great should you need it and in some cases I actually like it better than regular chalk! Only con is that since it isn’t strapped to my harness sometimes I leave it behind at a route.

I have no guidance for outside experiences regarding this chalk.

It tends to leave a greasy layer on your hands. I prefer just chalk and alcohol as this combination does a good job of drying your hands. This product leaves a layer that actually makes your fingers feels a little slippery.

This chalk is great, but the tube’s mouth consistently wiggles open…allowing some chalk leakage before the entire thing dries out. This has happened 3x this year. Major bummer.

Bought the biggest bottle. Easy to carry around in my gym bag. No mess. Dries quick after applying. Love it 🙂

Made the mistake of not removing the plastic cover before squeezing the chalk all over myself. really good stuff, only need a small amount to be covered in chalk.

I have learned to affectionally call this stuff “magic sauce. ” I initially bought liquid chalk because we had planned a climbing trip to Arcadia National park. We were climbing during some soggy, rainy, and muggy conditions but the chalk held out.

Since that trip, I’ve used this for all my climbing/hang board sessions. I put a drop on before I climb and it acts as a wonderful initial chalk layer to the chalk in my bag. Also, my climbing friends and I debate about the smell: we have come to the conclusion that it smells like apples.

Game changer! I have tried a few other brands of liquors chalk and this one has truly made a difference. I have sweaty hands and use loads of chalk. Not only does this stay on better without constant reapplication, but I end up using less loose chalk as well.

Even my climbing partner loves it and now we have a big bottle of another brand that we liked over others that now just sits as backup in her pack as she prefers this. Works well for my sweaty hands.

I’ve used several liquid chalks at this point, and either they’re just white hand sanitizer, or they’re so chalky that they plug up the nozzle and the first time use any day requires over pressurizing the tube to get the dried chalk out.

I’ve had this chalk now for awhile, and have had none of those issues. It’s an amazing base layer, a really good patch system and it hangs in there longer than other liquid chalks do. The bottle also doesn’t clog, and the consistency of the liquid is definitely more liquid than paste.

Really happy with this product and I don’t plan to go back.

This seems to be step 1 of climbing for me. It’s a great way to get a base layer of chalk down quickly, removing any oils, sweat, etc without having to re-chalk several times to get to that point. It’s also a great way to get back to that point after getting your hand wet, be it condensate off of your bottle, or a bit of water runoff in the rock.

Furthermore, in this day and age, it’s a good sanitization step in the gym with it’s alcohol content. The packaging is squeezable like toothpaste, which is similar to the texture and form of the chalk itself, letting you get the small remainder out easier, but it’s also my only complaint.

It always dries in the nozzle, and you spent a bit of time getting that dried chalk out before using it. That’s really the only downside though. It’s a required item in my kit and has been for over two years.

Been using this for the past month at the climbing gym and I seriously love it. It holds up pretty well and is definitely better quality than other liquid chalks I’ve tried. Plus, it has hand sanitizer in the formula which is great for covid times.

Only issue is it does come out pretty fast so having a climbing buddy to give some of my handful too is great.

The Petzl Liquid chalk works exactly how you would expect it to. I always use it as a base layer of chalk at the start of my session on my hands. I also use it on my feet and it helped cut back on the slimyness I would get from having sweaty feet, also helped with odor in my shoes! The tube is probably only half full when new though, so the size can look deceiving.

You will smell the alcohol when applying as that is I believe what sucsk the moisture out of your skin prior to it turning into the chalk. It does not last a whole session but I still like to start off with it as a base layer.

I don’t normally write reviews. 10/10 recommend this product. After the first use, I fell in love. The bar slips everytime I go for a PR (I sweat a lot). The wraps and gloves do not work for me, I have smaller hands and it effects my grip.

I was easily able to go for my PR because of a sweat free firm grip. Love this product!.

I really enjoy DMoose liquid chalk. It is something I use in the gym on a daily basis. It keeps my grip firm when using barbells and dumbbells. Works great for keeping a great grip during hard working sets.

The product is exactly as described. All the blocks came unbroken with just a minimal amount of flaking. Extremely effective for weight lifting and kettlebells ( what I bought this for ) and with eight blocks I will probably have enough for years lol.

Bought this as it was one of the cheapest liquid chalks in the store. It is an essential in some gyms where liquid chalk is required, but as someone with quite sweaty palms I also found it helpful in other gyms as a base layer to then be topped up with my powder chalk.

Only downside is the strong alcohol smell which can also be quite drying to hands.

I love Ocun products, and this liquid chalk is no different. well priced, very nice to apply, quick drying, long lasting.

I have already used DMM liquid chalk, but the DMM container is better than OCUN. However, the quality is satisfactory. Good product.

I ve tested several brands, this liquid chalk is qui te liquid and let a very thin layer of chalk, the feeling is not as grippy as othe rs, and it does not remain very long. I like to put some liquid chalk at the bottom of a route and not add any power after, it is not always enough with this one.

So. Not my favorite.

Yes good to use not to thick, feels good and positive. Hole on bottle gums up after a few uses…but don’t they all.

It was a Christmas present for my son. He was very happy with it. Alas due to Covid times he hasn’t used it yet. Sorry.

I would consider myself a heavy chalk user for sure, and let me tell you, these blocks of chalk LAST. When i first started getting my garage gym set up (thank you rogue) chalk was on my list but at that time they didnt have the rogue chalk so i settled for the chalk ball thing.

So as soon as the rogue chalk became available i purchased two boxes to secure some chalk before they sell out again. Once i finished the chalk ball i totally forgot that i had ordered two boxes of rogues chalk beforehand, so i had ordered another two boxes.

When i realized that i already had two boxes i said oh well, two more boxes couldnt hurt. So i now have 4 boxes of rogue chalk that im sure will last me YEARS because im still on my first block of chalk after using it 4-5 days a week after 2 months now and there is still PLENTY of life left in my first block.

Rogue Chalk has always felt superior to other brands IMO. When supplies ran out for months, we were forced to try other brands and we STRUGGLED to find anything close (never did – to silky and no grip enhancement).

To the bare hand of someone who could care less, they won’t see it. But when chalk is a fairly major factor on big lift and technical gymnastics days, Rogue’s is the expected superior quality you’ve come to know from this brand.

There is a difference. So quit talkin and start chalkin.

I have been using this chalk for the last 3 months now and let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint. From my last pull-up, to my max squat this chalk makes me feel like I got gorilla grip. That bar will not move a millimeter.

I got to say though I have calluses on my hands and after I lift they are quite chalky. But no problem. A little rinse and that stuff is right out. All in all this chalk is amazing and seems to be a higher quality than other chalks I’ve used in the past.

Definetly would recommend to any lifter, climber, gymnast, or to anyone who needs chalk. I heard it’s great sidewalk chalk too. PS this chalk is infinite. I haven’t even gone through 1 if the 8 blocks it comes with.

For the price, it’s a steal!!.

I have used this product for pole dance, especially in summer, when your hands get sweatier. The truth is that after a couple of classes I am quite happy because I have better grip and I avoid the sweat that prevents me from making figures.

At the moment I am happy with the product.

Quite surprised with its effectiveness in the gym and I’m a person with very sweaty hands. I only apply liquid chalk about 3 times per day, with a bit of standard chalking here and there in between. Without the liquid chalk, I’d easily go through a lot more standard chalk.

PROS: very very sticky and durable, quick dry, enough to last you a very long time. CONS: smells like paint, as it’s durable you’ll need to scrub hard to get it off.

I use it to make suspensions at home. It seems to disappear quite fast but its effect lasts. Economically competent with other brands.
