20 Best Lip Liners For Overlining (2023 Updated)

This lip liner is a lovely colour, texture and easy to apply. It adds significant volume to my lips and I use it every day. As with every lip liner I’ve tried, it doesn’t last all day but it’s easy to carry out to reapply if necessary.

It lasts longer than the other brands I’ve used before though! I would recommend using google images to see each colour swatch just to ensure you have the colour you like, as sometimes the packaging can be slightly misleading!.

This pencil is great ! May be dark for some people but I am a North African with Sandy skin tone and this looks amazing ! Looks really good and stayed on my lips for most of the evening ! I didn’t get it on my original order and lookfantastic sent one straight away ! Will purchase many more again.

Beautiful colors for lips, eyes & cheeks! Always get compliments & inquiries for products. The lip liners work exceptionally well for eyes as well, which I have done for years! Please bring back “Cafe au laite”, “Terra Cotta”, & “Coffee Bean”!!!.

This lip liner is soft- no tugging along lip line leaving a clean precise line that prevents color from feathering snd bleeding. No sharpener required. Twist up packaging. You can twist up but not down so twist slowly to dispense a small tip.

Too long at tip it WILL break. Not drying snd lasts a good work day. Stays put as you can see in video as I swipe across with finger. Must be capped tightly or it will dry out fast. A little pricey for a lip liner but not a disappointment.

Fine product I reach for often.

This is my go to for lips, I always have it in my pocket!! I use this as a liner and to fill in my lips before using lipstick. It helps to keep the color on all day and helps to prevent flaking. It is small enough to keep in a pocket discreetly for those quick touch ups after having coffee or something to eat.

I always keep a few extra at home in case I misplace one and to make sure I always have one incase of stock shortages; you know how things are now, you have to think six months out.

Used to use this color years ago because it always went well with my choice of lipstick colors. I’m fair complexion, redhead. It’s lighter color than what is shown online. I also went to some other sites to see the color charts.

Goes well with neutral colors, I don’t care for the darker outline around the lips, works good for me. Stays on and is easy to apply. I got the sale price so it was even better!.

They describe the formula as buttery soft, long wearing, goes on easily and resists bleeding. All I can say is, TRUE! It’s in fact so lovely, I had to give it 5 stars! It is just a nice creamy formula that applies well on the lips, without any tugging or hard pressure.

It will never bleed, because it is thick enough and stays in place. Pigmentation is bellissima and the finish of these liners are a satin matté. They aren’t dry, like some of the other matte formulas, There is a stunning creaminess to it still, but if your lips are dry, this will pretty much look matte on you.

I only wear Mauve. Older face and my lip line is gradually fading into my face. Starting to look like one of those shriveled apple dolls, LOL. You can barely see my lips! This pencil looks natural, not invisible and not loud.

Natural. I fill in the whole lip with the pencil and cover it with every shade of lipstick from Cherry Red to Dusty Pink. If I know that I’ll be covid masked for hours I just do the pencil and some gloss.

I buy in bulk when it’s in stock.

My makeup routine consists of mascara, blush, and highlighter. lol. I thought i’d try something a little different and after trying other lip liners: this is the answer. I use the natural color, and it works amazingly with my everyday look.

It doesn’t smear, but it is easily removable at the end of the day. I don’t find myself having the reapply every time I eat or drink; it lasts pretty much all day – save an occasional time when I feel like I need it.

I just have such a hard time finding this exact one in stores near me!!!.

Pros: Great color selection. Lots of nice muted colors for peeps like me that don’t like overly vibrant shades. Faves are nude beige and nude truffle. I find them really easy to sharpen. They never break off and the wood casing is soft enough to shave down evenly.

Super cheap. Cons: I find them difficult to apply. They’re pretty dry and drag on my lips, and it takes a lot of swipes to get a decent amount of color to even transfer to my lips. I could maybe forgive the dryness if they had good longevity.

Unfortunately these don’t last on me, and they don’t help my lipstick last longer either, which is the reason I’d use them in the first place. Overall I wouldn’t repurchase. I’ll just stick to my painfully expensive charlotte tillbury liner *cries in poor*.

I’ve been using this lip pencil for short time but I already love it so much!! ❤️ It’s perfect for a simple/everyday nude look. It’s matte lip pencil with very creamy formula, that glides on very smoothly on the lips without any tugging or pulling (this is great bonus in my book because I want to avoid future wrinkles around the lips)! It has medium/full coverage and it’s so affordable.

Usually my lips are very dry and lip pencils additionally dry them, but not this one. The formula is THAT creamy. So far, the color lasted until I ate but I’m guessing it would last much longer if I didn’t eat.

Very fair skin: it’s almost impossible to find nude lip colors for fair skin; too dark, too light, too warm etc. But Nude Beige is literal perfection. It’s a “my lips but better” kind of nude. And Nude Truffle is great for that slightly darker shade that can give more definition and a “shadowing” effect (I can fake big lips with this color).

Sometimes I just fill my lips with these and put some gloss on and good to go! Or I’ll dab some Lime Crime Turkish Delight (the only pink I have found that’s just right) and it’s the perfect pinky nude.

Only problem with these liners are if you try to build it too much it’ll get clumpy.

This is the best lip liner I have found on the market so far. I have been using it for years and women always want to know what lipstick I am wearing because I fill in my lips with the lip liner. I’ve tried others that say that they won’t budge, but they always do and then I have red smudges around my lips.

I recently got Invisalign for my teeth and any other lipstick ends up on the invisaliner, so now I am stocking up on these lip liners and I wear the caprice which is very nice color. Four stars because you lose a lot of the pencil when you sharpen it, and none of the sharpeners seem to be perfect.

This is the best lipliner ever! I’ve tried many but this one is the best- you can draw it slightly outside your lip line (natural mauve is the perfect shade to blend with natural lip color) and lips look twice as big.

It is soft and creamy so it doesn’t settle in lip lines. Natural mauve – a neutral nude,slightly pink light shade that resembles natural lip color. Perfect for fair to light-medium skintones or use with pale shades of lipstick.

Bronzelle- soft nude, light-medium peachy brown shade. Perfect for using medium to darker lipstick or for medium skintones.

I wore lip liner in 1980s (coordinated with my lip colors) when it was fashionable, then stopped when my lip liners ran out. Recently, I decided to try them again because no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t quite “color in the lines” 100% of the time.

I absolutely love this liner. It is so easy to use, and it makes the process of applying lipstick so much easier. I feel like my lips are much more defined and lipstick is a lot more evenly distributed.

And since I bought the clear liner, when lipstick fades, the line is not the only thing remaining on my lips. Fantastic product, I would recommend trying it on for size!.

I bought Wild Clover 014 shade for my high school graduation and I’ve never looked back. It works as a perfect nude for my lips and it suits all skin tones I don’t understand why Rimmel discontinued this shade when so many reviewers are asking for it.

Please bring it back we are begging you. What do we need to do to make it happen? I only bought it once (hard to come by in a third world country) and that pencil is still lasting me 7 years later. But its running out and I can’t find anything half as good in Rimmel or other brands.

Please reconsider your decision.

This color is absolutely amazing for lining lips. I use lip balm in the center of my lips. The warmth of the liner and the coolness of my lips is an incredible combination!! Plus, this lip liner makes my eye color pop!! Never thought I would say that about something I put on my lips.

Market it differently. adjust the color on the outside of the pencil to truly reflect what an amazing universal shade this is! Please!!!.

As a former manager and makeup artist for a top brand cosmetic line that has been a Revlon customer for well over 20 years. I found the Colorstay line comparable but cheaper in price and loved it for many years but I have to say that when you changed your formulas that no longer rings true and unfortunately I will move on to another line.

My disappointment lies not only in the new formulas breaking, not lasting and no longer has staying power and the colors are truly just not good any longer. I have used the revlon eyeliner in every shade and loved them all for years but what I found is that when applying the liner the tips of the liner just keep breaking off, doesn’t apply smoothly nor smudge well, (the new angle smudger is awful) product no longer last, instead of my liner lasting well over a month, Im lucky to get 2 weeks.

at first I thought I just got a bad one in which it does happen but it happens to them all and I now have wasted more money for a product that doesn’t last. The lip liner shades no longer good, I’ve used nude a daily neutral and the new formula the shades dont match up and the color is now awful, and the product just breaks off so again in 2 weeks, Im ready to replace, the formulas no longer last and the shades are way off.

The eye shadow well, not pigmented again a waste. I wanted so badly to keep using for Revlon is all I’ve known and loved for so many years but unfortunately color stay no longer lives up to its name.

These days consumers cant waste their money on products they have to replace constantly, time to find another brand. Very disappointed, what happened Revlon? your products were great! Now former customer.

Really good liners for if you want something that will last all day without smudging or transferring. Are super creamy and pigmented. I don’t need to really work it into the skin to get color payoff.

These outlast a lot of the lipsticks I wear lol. I have two shades currently, Red Nude. Red, is the perfect red liner to go with bright red lipsticks or to wear underneath a gloss. Looks stunning with blue toned reds, but will also look good with warmer reds.

Nude, is a pinky brown nude. Is a shade that works well with a lot of different nude lipsticks. I pair it with beige nudes, pink nudes and brown nudes. It literally looks beautiful with every nude lipstick I own.

So many reviews mention that the twist-up function doesn’t work. The only part of this liner designed to twist is the cap. To advance more product, you need to grip the top (liner end) of the pencil between your pointer finger & thumb and push back toward the end of the pencil.

When you release, a small amount of product extends past the tip. I bought the color Sienna, which is no longer available. Good consistency and long-wearing. I bought it at a discount store, so the small amount I paid makes it especially worthwhile.

Not sure I would pay full price.

I used to use and love the smashbox lip liner in pencil form. In fact, when it was discontinued I bought every one I could find. Alas, I’ve used them all up and decided to try this self-sharpening version.

It is not good. First, the cap fits on so tightly that it takes great force to pull it off daily. Several times this force has cause the liner to break off, wasting product!! Second, at a time when most companies are focused on sustainability and reducing product waste,smashbox has elected to place this product in MORE plastic and wasteful packaging.

A pencil gets smaller as you use it up, making it lightweight and compact for travel. This large plastic applicator takes up space no matter how much you use up. with a pencil you can also customize the tip to create the line you like: fat or thin.

This automatic pencil only gives you the option of a thin line. I use the smashbox liner as a grippy base for my lip products so I like a fat tip for faster filling. The liner itself is great but I won’t be buying again in this packaging.

I like the quality of this lip liner. It’s soft enough to make a good line and lip fill-in but dense enough to make a nice defined line without ever smearing or blurring up into fine lines. The sharpening system works great, although it initially took me some time to figure out how to sharpen it, since it came with no instructions.

You have to put the lid on, then twist the pencil inside the lid once or twice, which is different from other self-sharpening liners. The downside is it’s confusing to figure out at first. The upside is, you get a nice sharp point after every sharpening.

The only other downside is that, since the case is solid, you have no idea how much pencil is left. When it’s used up, the tip just falls off while you’re using it. So. surprise! I like this liner so much that I avoid the problem by always having a spare.

When one runs out, I grab the next one and order one for backup.

Why it took me so long to fall in love with Milani retractable lip liner is beyond me. I got this lip liner with one of the amore lip glasses in a holiday set that I got ridiculously discounted after the holidays.

 This is my favorite lip liner at the moment and it works amazing with my skin tone. My favorite way to use this is with the NYX butter gloss in the shade Tres Leches for the perfect pink nude lip!  The shade is perfect enough to give the perfect amount of dimension to your lips while not being so dark that it looks like the lip liner that used to be popular in the early 2000s.

 while I am just now getting into lip liners I find myself still having us in my top collection of a lip liners from the drugstore and probably even from the high-end section also. I would pay the extra money if they turn this into a thicker lip liner similar to the color pop lip liner/lipstick product line it would take this to the next level if that’s even possible! .

this lip liner is the only one i’ll use. i’m so obsessed with it i ordered it directly from the milani website in bulk because i couldn’t find it anywhere. it glides in so well and doesn’t smear!! i find that with most lip liners they move and smudge all over the lip area no matter what you do and if they don’t they’re the driest liner ever that tugs on the skin and crumbles.

this one, if anything, will fade slightly after many hours but won’t move which is a huge deal because i hate coming home to realize i’ve had lip liner all over my face all day. creamy, pigmented, non messy perfection.

A few years ago I bought this to match a specific lipstick I had at the time, and have since repurchased this a few times and plan to in some of the other colors. I loved it so much that I wore it as a senior in high school for my senior portraits.

I haven’t had problems with it lasting any different then the other lipliners I own, but I also don’t tend to reapply lip products. I find this shade in particular to be my perfect everyday nude lipliner, it’s just a great color at-least for me and the quality of the product is amazing.

An excellent lip liner. The consistency is akin to a very creamy (but not greasy) gel lip liner which does not drag or skip along the lips during application. It delivers a clean, precise line and very pigmented matte color.

I’ve used this by itself (with a lip primer underneath for a bit of added moisture), under creme lipstick, matte lipstick, and liquid lipstick and it keeps my lip colour in place. I have not had any problems with lipstick bleeding or feathering, or any excess smudging.

I purchased the shade Rosary – it is a pretty, bright true red which works well as a base underneath a variety of bright red lipsticks with either cool, neutral or warm undertones. I am quite fair with cool undertones in my skin and Rosary adds a lovely pop of colour without appearing garish or harsh.

In summary, this is an excellent choice for cleanly defining the shape of the lips and extending the life of one’s lip colour. It may be worn alone or under a favourite lipstick. As with all lip products, oil is thine enemy, and the lip liner will of course decline in efficacy if one indulges in a greasy meal or snack.

I will gladly purchase this lip liner again as it is one of the nicest I have tried. Brava!.

I was looking for a nude lipliner that would give my lips definition without looking too pale which makes my lips look smaller, or too dark and obvious, to pair with my nude and natural looking pink glosses.

Online I only found photos of Bow n’ Arrow looking way too light on darker skinned women or looking almost rusty brown on extremely fair skinned women. But most photos either had horrible lighting or were using filters so I knew I wasn’t seeing a fair representation.

I’m so glad I took a chance & ordered it! In person it is the most flattering, natural looking, opaque nude! I have extremely white skin in the winter & I get really tan in the summer, and this liner is just dark enough to look good on both! Seriously folks, don’t trust the photos online, swatch it for yourself.

I paired it with Every single one of my pink and nude lipsticks and it looks amazing! And it doesn’t come off when I eat or drink, which is a first for me. If they ever discontinue this color I’d suggest going with Ludwig, which is my second favorite, because it’s more universally flattering if you have tanner skin, or want a more dramatic liner.

I purchased the Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner fell in love at first glide! in Lolita has a velvety texture that doesn’t tug your skin as you apply it, like many other waxier lip liners that I’ve tried.

It glides across the perimeter of my lips, depositing the warm pink shade vividly with just one swipe. My absolute favorite lip liner. For such a versatile and quality product I’m surprised that Kat Von D’s Everlasting lip liner only has a handful of reviews on MUA.

The color is strongly pigmented, super long-lasting (up to 10 hours on me), it glides on smoothly and it stays put. It comes as a retractable cream stick and I can use it exactly as intended or I can use in place of a lipstick, seriously! Also works well for touch-ups throughout the day instead of reaching for my lipstick.

The formula itself is very creamy but despite that it dries down quickly to a matte finish – in literally less than 60 seconds, and if you pair it with a Everlasting liquid lipstick it lasts even longer! Yes this has amazing lasting power and not just when I’m wary and mindful of it being on my lips but anytime, and any day, regardless of what I do, eat or drink.

It doesn’t make my lips feel dried out or chapped in any way, unlike so many other brands I’ve tried in the past (even KVD’s own liquid lipsticks are way more drying than the lip liner). Love their signature black box packaging with its silver lining.

so much so that everytime I purchase this (I’m on round 3 btw) I end up arguing with myself over whether or not to dispose of it (all you fancy brands take note there’s only so much cute packaging your customers can hold onto!).

Pretty similar to Mac’s Prolongwear but even better lasting power and pigment from my experience.

Celebrities and cosmetics gurus use this lip liner as their go to lip liner. I have been using this lip liner for a long time even when it was only a number lip liner “666”. This lip liner is so underrated.

The color is so beautiful with just enough shimmer. Has excellent staying power too and does not bleed into my lip lines. This is a favorite and constant tenant in my makeup bag.

I’ve been looking for a warm nude mlbb lip liner that wouldn’t break the bank. Willow is perfect. Tonally, there isn’t a hint of pink in it that I usually find in nude lipliners, it’s more of a peachy nude.

I also got Chestnut which is a warm medium-deep brown. The texture is what I want from a lip liner: smooth, not too creamy and not too dry. Creamy lip liners like colourpop liners are so creamy they have the thick heavy look of lipsticks by themselves.

These have a smooth but thin application of product that doesn’t alter the texture of my lips. They’re definitely a new staple in my collection. Hope Wet n’ Wild will continue to keep these in their product line up.

I bought this for a lark, I mean, for the price, what did I have to lose? I normally purchase very expensive make-up, so didn’t expect much. WOW. Was I surprised. This is the best lip liner I’ve ever used.

It’s not drying, goes on smooth and stays that way, doesn’t bleed or turn orange or do any of those other bad things. I’m 67 and sold high end cosmetics for most of my life. I’ve tried all the lip liners.

This one is the best, hands down.

I bought this in the shade ‘Just Because’ and I found it to be chalky and very difficult to apply. I had to apply a considerable amount of pressure just to see the colour on the back of my hand. When trying to line my lips, it pulled at my skin and barely showed up at all.

Really disappointed, and just glad I didn’t get this at full price.

Got loads of these lip liners in different colours from Sleek Makeup and all of them are gorgeous! The application applied like butter, so smooth and creamy. Not chalky or hard at all, which some more expensive lip liners are.

I use it everyday and love it- it blends amazingly and I just apply clear lip gloss over it and you can’t even tell i’ve overlined my lips.

I really hesitated buying these, and I wish I’d listened to my gut. These colors are just awful with my very fair skin/blonde hair. I guess if you blended colors or filled in with the pencils, you could make something passable, but I wanted colors I could throw in my bag or pocket, pop on at a moment’s notice and go on with my day! I also HATED the lip primer.

I understood from the presentation that it would get kind of sticky/tacky so that the lip color would then glide on and stay in place (and I did wait a good 10 minutes for the primer to set before using the color!); however, after applying the lip color, it was STILL sticky and tacky, which was a horrible feeling and removed the creaminess I’ve always loved from MAC lipsticks.

Also, can someone explain how it costs $3. 50 for QVC to ship this to me (which I have to eat, by the way) but $6. 95 for the label for me to return it?? I also have a small business where I ship items, and if you can charge that much on the outward, you can charge that much for the return!! $10.

I wear many brands of makeup and I do love MAC lipsticks and lip pencils. I knew I love Whirl and Modesty, and am thrilled to have gotten this Coro pencil! I thought it would be unwearable for me, but lining with Cork and applying some of my other brands “too pale” lipsticks give this gorgeous natural ombré effect that is beautiful on my Light-medium complexion.

I am so glad that I actually listened to the host and MAC artists and gave this a try!! Crème cup is another surprise! Usually pale-pinks have a “white cast” that makes them look bubble-gummy and unwearable for me.

Crème cup has none of that white cast and I’d never have picked this shade in a million years… but with Whirl, it’s exceptional and the pair are already in my purse for every day use. For the TSV price, I was happy with the primer, Whirl pencil, and special edition Modesty alone.

Seeing I love all six products, I’m purchasing another set at the non-TSV price – it’s still a steal!!.

I love this lip liner so much it looks so good! It lasts a decent amount of time and it blending well. I wouldn’t change this product in any way. It met my expectations. Definitely will buy it again when i’m done with this one!.

I wore it to a wedding, the color was great! It lasted long, complimented my skin tone, and made me look like I was ready for the runway. The only problem: it smelled like paint. It wasn’t a very slight, unnoticeable smell.

It was like, dunking a whole entire neighborhood in paint smell- I mean, you could smell this from miles away! I had lots of compliments on my lips, however the people sitting next to me didn’t at all enjoy the smell that much.

It’s a great lip creme that lasts for hours, it would be perfect if it smelled good.

This is my favorite lip liner of all time. I’ve been wearing this exact color for over a decade. It is the perfect nude shade with cool undertones, it makes the lips look fuller, and the staying power is amazing.

The sad thing is that I think they have stopped making it. I can’t find it anywhere anymore, and I can’t find a dupe for it.

I really like prestige lip liners they come in all variety of shades and really nice in pigmentation!!! I always use lip liners so this is great and the cost effective as well!

Wanted to love this but I ended up returning it. The color was beautiful, but the formula was a total miss for me. It’s waxy yet dry, I can’t explain it. Swatched great on my hand but on the lip no. Just no.

I had to really work at it to get it to transfer to my skin, and then the tip of the liner would get crumbly and leave crumbs on my lips. For the amount of work I needed to get it to apply nicely it was just a miss.

Cool concept for a liner but I’m a sharp point kinda girl so it just didn’t work. Go for the Anaheim line instead.

Really loving this lip liner. It is so awesome for many different reasons. I love how the tip is precise, so I am able to control the product and line where I want to. I overline at the center of my top and bottom lip and along the edges of my lips.

Then I am able to easily fill it in and blend it out with the lip brush that’s on the other end. It is seriously a magical product and gives the perfect color payoff. I love putting gloss over it for a glossy look.

I have not found a liner like this in my 34 years. The color is so beautiful and consistency more like a lip crayon than liner. I bought Lip Nude 12. I was able to swatch it in store so I knew it was going to be pretty but sometimes the lights in the store cause products to look so much different and usually for the better, leaving much to be desired in reality.

Well I ordered this during the VIB Rouge Sale, and it is JUST as beautiful in my home and everywhere else as the day I swatched it. I love a nude lip so already own several liner shades along those lines.

Some others that I have I’m positive will last longer underneath another lip product since this one is not as pasty or dry or super matte, therefore probably not as long lasting but it will last long enough to suit me and not cause my lips to look painted and dry.

I feel like no matter what, unless you wear a true matte, you lose your lip look when you eat or drink regardless. This shade is almost a champagne shade-beige, sandy, light eggshell-with a sheen to it that is not frosty, but it’s much more dimensional than your typical pasty lip liner.

I use it to fill in my entire lip and top it with NARS Supervixen gloss and it’s amazing. Probably my favorite combo ever as far as gloss goes. Like I said, I don’t think it will be the longest lasting formula on the market but it IS the prettiest and you can use it alone without it looking super matte or flat.

Not sure how it functions strictly as a liner (not filling lips in) but I bet it gives a blended look to the edge of the lip vs the hard lines you sometimes get with many lip pencils. If you like a gorgeous neutral lip that makes a statement but is very subdue, order this and NARS supervixen gloss! You’re welcome! 🙂 I do think it’s small and expensive for the small amount, so 4 stars instead of 5 bc value is lost a little here especially considering you have to sharpen away product.

You do get a sharper with this pencil though! I will repurchase but will always wait for the VIB sale to do so!.

It’s perfect. It goes on smoothly, accurately and effortlessly. Unlike many other lip liners, this lip pencil is an actual pencil which you can sharpen when needed. The tip does not break off like so many other lip-liner products do these days.

End it lasts for hours; you don’t have to continuously re-do your lips. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it a “60” !!.

The lip liner is not what I expected, I normally use another brand however they didn’t have a pink that I wanted so I decided to try this one and it’s a little hard so doesn’t go on smooth as I would like.

The colour is also a bit too “granny” it has no real depth to the colour I thought it would be a little more pink, it blends into the skin too much and the pink looks almost florescent. like my nana would have worn.

Shame as quite expensive for a lip liner.

This liner has very vibrant color and applies very smooth. It’s lite weight and goes on easily. Works well with lipsticks and glosses. The color last a long time without having to touch it back up. I will be buying more colors.

Love the lip liners So Much! They have lasting color that doesn’t get all “last call” looking after a couple hrs, and are so much fun to play with. My only comment is that i wish there were more colors with semi-mate finish, or even a little shimmer for the cupids bow part of the lip.

I really liked this lipliner, it looks awesome and doesn’t flake off. It isn’t bad but it isn’t out of this world However one lipliner came in 4 different boxes and other packaging, it completely turned me off, which is why I gave it 3 stars.

I will not buy again from this company online until they change their packaging for less waste.

Ok for $10 this thing is amazing!!! It glides on so smoothly and is so pigmented ! I just purchased more colors but this thing is great as is, used only as a liner, or an all over color. Amazing

I loved the lip liner and i love the little brush that comes with it too. The color is beautiful and its long lasting too! I mix this lip liner with a gloss and it makes my lips pop!

The Color is perfect and the applicator allow me to contour my lips precisely. And I was pleasantly surprised that there is a small brush on the other side to blend the contour.
