20 Best Lights For Zoom Meetings (2023 Updated)

Here are my observations after less than 2 weeks of use: – The battery does not last a full day. If you’re in meetings all day, you will have to plug it to charge it. Pluses: you can plug it to you laptop/display & use it at the same time.

The instructions do advise to NOT leave it plugged, so make sure to unplug it when you’re done. – The suction cup works fine. There is a sticky surface on the cup itself to help. I noticed that you have to be gentle when you click on the buttons, otherwise the light will fall at some point.

– I like that you can change the light temperature, though I leave it at 5000K. – I like that you can control how much light it emits. My desk is set up in a sunroom, so it’s perfect as the light changes throughout the day.

– The controls are simple enough that I don’t even have to remove the light from my display to look at the small display on the back to know what I’m doing.

Over the last 10 weeks, I’ve been working from home more and am on video calls all day long, starting early in the morning. The lighting in my home office was too dark in the morning, so I’ve been looking for a compact lighting solution.

I tried 4 different lights from various manufacturers. Everything from ring lights to better overhead LED lighting. There’s nothing that compares to the Lume Cube Panel. Problems I had with others: harsh reflection off of my eyeglasses, overly bright and casting a shiny, white effect on my face, 2 lights were too bright and shined right into my face, no ability to dim or change color subtly for my skin tone, constant recharging.

Two of the best features of the Lume Cube: #1 is the diffuser which softens the light perfectly for video conferencing. I’m using it with the camera on my MacBook Pro and sometimes with the camera on my Apple Cinema Display.

In both cases, it works beautifully to eliminate any shine and harshness. #2 is the white & warm LEDs that allow you to make small incremental changes in both color and brightness. You can adjust perfectly for your individual face, skin tone and to your liking.

People on the other side of my video calls have commented on how beautiful my lighting is and have asked what kind of lights I have in my home office. When I show them the Lume Panel, they can’t believe how something so small can make such a big difference.

If you’re looking for a good VC light, don’t hesitate and give this one a try.

My workspace/desk faces an interior corner of my office, which means the windows on the exterior wall are kitty corner, over my left shoulder and there is one that is almost directly behind me. The desk, which is built into the room/walls, means that I don’t really have any flexibility to move my workspace.

Depending on the time of day, if there is strong light coming through that window, even with a prior LED desk lamp that I had used behind the webcam, I could still show up as quite shadowed on a video feed.

After getting the first one of these, I picked up a second one, being thrilled with the ability to adjust settings in my OS rather than having to do manual adjustments (though you can do that with the buttons on the backs of these).

They sync in the G HUB software(!), which means I don’t need to tweak them separately and those settings can be assigned to the G keys on my Logitech G910 keyboard. I have it set up to turn the lights on and off with a keystroke as well as to adjust the brightness and color tone with four other G keys.

No need to open the G HUB app to make these adjustments. The best part, given my lighting situation, is that I get plenty of light on my face to offset times where I have a lot of sunlight coming through the window behind me.

I had been debating getting another shade installed on that window, which I still might do to be able to dial down the brightness of the Litra lights, but I am able to get perfectly functional lighting for video feeds from my webcam in the meantime.

The only quibble I have is with the G HUB app, which has a black backdrop for it. This can means that if you adjust the brightness and color in the app, if you then leave the app to use a video feed where more of your screen will be creating more light, how you look on camera might be a bit off.

e. g. , I do a good deal of screen capture for educational videos, so I don’t have a black backdrop on screen as might be seen in Zoom meetings. Logitech might be wise to afford a white backdrop for adjusting settings for the lights so that what you see in G HUB is likely to align with what you see if you leave the app and are using a brighter desktop environment while using your webcam.

All in all, I see this as a great product, offering the ability to adjust the settings on your computer desktop (Windows/Mac) without having to do so manually. The use of the Litra becomes even more outstanding and easy to use if you have a Logitech G keyboard with programmable G keys.

After getting a high quality mic and hd webcam, I still found my streaming setup incomplete. I was missing a lighting setup. Rather than going with some bulky and cumbersome ring light setup, I found myself with the Logitech Litra.

The first thing that stood out to me, aside from the shape of the light being a solid square, was the mount. Like the mount on the webcam, this was designed to clip to the back of any monitor (or laptop screen) while still allowing me to adjust the height and angle that the light was shining at.

This is perfect for keeping pesky reflections when I’m using my glasses. What’s more is that the mount is completely removable, and you can install the light on any standard tripod base. This opens up way more options than simply being a light accessory for a monitor webcam.

There are physical controls on the back of the light, allowing you to turn the power on or off, set the intensity, and set the warmth of the light. You can also adjust the settings by installing Logitech’s G Hub software.

Included in the software are some preset lighting settings, but the biggest benefit to using it is the ability to set any of the lighting profiles to a custom keyboard button, provided you also have a compatible Logitech keyboard.

Since there were on-device controls, and it was attached via a USB A to C cable, I tried plugging it straight into an external power source (a USB charging-only hub not connected to any computer) and it worked fine.

It also worked using the portable battery pack I use to charge my phone in emergencies. This plus the tripod mount greatly expands the possible uses, as it does not have to be tied to a computer to use.

The light itself has a nice range from cool blue tones to a warm orange. I find at night, during low light situations, and based on my darker complexion, a warm light and 35% brightness works great to illuminate and highlight my face without overexposure.

The Logitech Litra may just well replace the bulkier LED box that I had been previously using for photography. Not only is it smaller and lighter with more options of powering on, but the nice diffuse light that it casts is better for preventing shadows.

Logitech also claims all day usage without harmful effects, something that I didn’t even know was an issue until I started doing research on blue light and LEDs.

Logitech has made the Litra Glow panel light to help meet this need. It can be controlled by the G hub app on your PC or by simple controls on the back. Color temperature and brightness can be controlled, and Logitech claims a high degree of color accuracy.

Mounting the light is simple, it uses a small grabber foot to hook on to your monitor bezel, similar to most webcams. It can also be detached and mounted on any standard threaded tripod or mount with those threads.

Thankfully, the cable is not attached to the back of the light, so you can position it as needed if you need a longer cable. The light end is USB-C, and a USB-C to A cable is included in the box. The light features a frameless design that helps avoid eye strain and softens the edges of the light.

Additionally, it has been certified as safe by UL for all day use. In my experience it was not harsh or distracting when used. Setting up the light took about 30 seconds, just hooked it on my monitor, plugged it in, and it was ready to go! A couple of adjustments later and I found a color temp and brightness that complemented my webcam well.

Having this front light is great, it removes shadows and provides a “catch light” – that sparkle in your eye without giving you a ring light reflection. With the adjustments and the soft light you can find a flattering color tone and level of brightness that makes your face clear without creating shiny spots.

On a whim, I also plugged this into an iPad Pro’s USB-C port, and it powered right up. This makes it a great compliment for on the go use as it is fairly thin and compact folded up, another advantage over a large ring light.

It can also be powered by a USB power bank if you want to use it for on the go vlogging etc. Overall, this is a well engineered light that separates itself from generic off-brand lights with good, full spectrum color and certified safety for extended use.

It is flexible and compact, making it great for office or travel use. Small investments like this can make worlds of difference in how others see you on webcams, and this one is well worth it.

This is a fantastic, bright light but all the parts are made up of plastic so be careful (as is mentioned in the instructions that you should be reading but no one reads these days) when attaching accessories to this light.

Almost everything is made up of plastic except the metal ball inside the ballhead. This light is meant to be used at a close distance (say 2ft – 6ft for best results). I love the fact that you can control the brightness and color of this light and the fact that this is a complete kit including the carrying and batteries for outdoor use when you do not have access to power outlets.

On top of it all, the kit comes with 2 battery chargers so that you can charge the dual batteries at the same time. A thing to note, if you look at the product pictures, the included stand folds upside rather than every other stand I have which folds down.

It is a neat design to reduce the size of the folded stand. You can notice that the legs of the stand have support arms attaching to the tube above it rather than going under it. This makes it a little difficult to open and close this stand but I would not change the design as I like the compactness of the stand when it is all folded to go into its bag for travel or storage.

Here are few things I wish to see improved: – The phone clamp is spring loaded and is not wide enough to hold wider phones. I tried to use this clamp on iPhone 8 Plus which had a silicon case around it.

It is very difficult to put this clamp around this phone. It feels like the clamp is going to break as it is reaching its max limit. It also puts too much pressure on the phone and I get nervous that it is definitely going to break my phone case and may even damage the phone.

* My solution to solve this problem was to buy JOBY GorillaPod Mobile Rig with B&H # JOJB01533 or MFR # JB01533. * Optionally you can get just the smartphone holder by buying JOBY GripTight Pro 2 Mount (Black/Charcoal) with B&H # JOJB01525 or MFR # JB01525.

* This smartphone mount is expensive but it allows you to adjust the grip tightness plus it gives you options to rotate from Horizontal to Vertical and in between positions. Keep in mind that it is best to use this mount with a ballhead which is provided with this light for complete freedom to adjust the angles and I love this flexibility or I should be saying my teenage daughter for which I bought this light and the smartphone adapter loves the flexibility for her TikTok videos.

The light is really bright and works well for its intended purpose. The phone holder barely opens wide enough to hold the phone in its case. The articulated arm is week and not very adjustable.

As the title says, the light itself is great. I give lower marks to the included rechargeable batteries; although I am still working on it, I haven’t been able to get the light to work on batteries, only AC power.

The batteries themselves are flimsy and both of them want to come apart at about 1/4” from the bottom. Furthermore, they seem to charge fine, but I can’t get them to work with the light. I think the next thing to try will be to measure their output voltage.

I have ordered a different brand of equivalent batteries from Amazon also because of the basic physical workmanship. As far as the actual operation of the light, the mounting of the ring to the tripod is a bit loose, so I need to experiment more with that.

I don’t fear it falling off or anything like that, but I wish the connection was more solid. Lastly, you don’t want to be too bright or too close to the light when trying to do a FaceTime or equivalent video call.

That’s my fault I guess. Even at 25% intensity it made my face too bright and I could not see the other party well in the iPad screen I had mounted inside the ring. So think about your actual application.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not sorry I bought the light. I can use it for normal group photo lighting, etc. But maybe the 12” ring might have been better for my use case. Don’t know. Powerful light.

The light itself exceeds expectation. I ordered one and had it shipped to France. Sadly, it did not come with a European cord. It was shipped with a US plug. It’s not a huge deal since it comes with batteries but I would have preferred to have gotten one I can plug in without having to use a converter.

Secondly, the light sits VERY awkwardly on the stand. The mount on the light and the top of the tripod don’t fit together, at all. I had to balance it on top and just tighten the side screw as much as possible to just make sure it stays put.

Either it’s very poor design or there is a part that was supposed to come with the kit that didn’t make it. It does feel like there is something missing. Overall worth it.

I am a truly devoted fan of Lume Cube. I have been a repeat customer because the products have always been excellent. I’ve ordered the Ring Light off of Amazon after first making the mistake of cutting corners and buying a generic import version of a ring light.

My biggest concern has already been expressed by another customer here – that the stand-to-Ring-Light attachment point seems vulnerable to breaking given its made of plastic as opposed to metal. I also have a suggestion: at some point it would be great if a remote was included.

In the absence of that, a built-in Bluetooth connection for mobile phone apps would be terrific! I’m pretty sure something like a remote or an App will come along someday soon because Lume Cube is motivated to be the best of the best.

Customer Service is A++ I once had some issues with a set Lume Cube lighting mounts (for my drone). They promptly addressed my concern by replacing them. They ended up redesigning those mounts and they happened to think of me at the time – they sent me a set of the new ones out of nowhere.

Incredible! When they came up with a new design, they sent me a set of those.

Purchased this in March 2020 and it broke within months. It was great while it worked, but that was short lived. The electronics failed, so it no longer turns on. Then, the spring in the cell phone holder snapped so it no longer holds a phone.

While the manufacturer Ubeesize claims to have a 1 year warranty, it is ONLY VALID if you purchase directly from them, or through Amazon. Terrible experience all around.

So glad I got this one and not a cheaper one. The tripod works with my nikon camera as well. It is a fully functional tripod (panning, tilting, level, etc) but to get that functionality at this price it feels a bit flimsy.

I was shocked with how well the ring light worked! Really easy to set up and use. The remote worked with my Samsung A51 with no problems. I’m very pleased with my purchase! The smart phone mounts do NOT like pop sockets, so keep that in mind.

I think it is worth the cost without being overpriced.

Currently, during a pandemic, I need something to brighten me during my Zoom meetings, so this Ring Light comes handy for me. This is a very bright and adjustable brightness, it also has three different warmth levels.

The Tripod height is adjustable which helps me a lot. Worth the price and also easier to take bright and clear selfies ;-).

I bought this GVM product in 2020 on sale. Finally got around to breaking it out, setting up and testing it. The “B” I believe stands for “barn doors” which are included in this now $600 kit. The capabilities of this color-blending set is impressive.

You can adjust RGB values and intensity on one knob, color temperature from 32-56K (approximate) on the other, very flexible, from 10% to a very bright 100%. You can run each unit on two batteries, not included, but I just route all three included AC power bricks into a single 3-outlet line to a single 15-amp outlet and none of my home lighting flickered; draw is very low.

Lighting is even and obedient— one light comes set as master, which controls not only its own settings but wirelessly those of the other two, set as slave units. I’’m using this kit to illuminate a 20′ greenscreen, and these three lights spread out will overlap smoothly and cover a 16’ foot stretch before falloff, 8′ high at a distance of 8 feet, and more if pulled back further but will require higher intensity.

But there’s more! The kit comes with a wireless control unit. Easy to program because you have only On-Off, RGB and color temp, and a choice of 12 channels. This is good because its LCD screen is pretty bad.

Its backlight is a joke. I thought “swamp thing” displays like this were ancient history. In fact, other GVM products offer controllers with page-white screens— very readable in the dark. That said, the remote is simple to operate, and you can set all three units to one channel, all as “slave” units.

Adjust the same settings on all three at once, and turn everything on or off with a click. Pretty nice, especially if you’re on batteries. Kit includes two diffusers for each unit: one is an internal slider, the other mounts outside to supplied brackets, doubles the softness, but must replace the barndoors.

I’d like to see a re-design that allows both. One machining issue showed up when sliding an internal diffuser into its slot. I found it difficult to lock both top and bottom into place, to prevent slide-out, without doing some hand filing of the lock indent on the top edge.

Each unit had this problem; I did them all at once. The included stands seem sturdy, and the yokes allow mounting of a unit at 90 degrees or upright, offering a wide variety of lighting positions. I’ll be using it for interview setups as well.

Documentation for setup is lean and English is well, adequate. Based on several affordable products I’ve purchased recently, I’d say China is becoming the new Japan. The design and machining are excellent, with few exceptions.

I’ve become fond of this kit. All told, it lights up my life.

As I expressed in the ratings, the light is great. It is easy for me to balance my lightning for my ZOOM calls in daylight natural light coming in from my windowsor night all artificial light. The battery life on my unit is better than the specs.

The mountings really need some work. The suction mounting is a pain to set up and only seems to work on a flat horizontal surface. On any other surface, it gives up within an hour. The tripod mount works if you dont mind constantly adjusting for anything except straight up and down.

The light is a 5+, the mountings will struggle to make it to a 2.

I really appreciate how easy this light is to use. It’s also INCREDIBLY lightweight. When I first picked it up out of the box I was anticipating that it would be much heavier and was shocked that it wasn’t heavy at all.

It folds to a compact state and it’s not very large–I showed it in my hand for size reference. It works as it should and conveniently plugs into the USB port so that you don’t have to find another power source which is quite handy.

Is this something that I use on an everyday basis? No, but it’s great for times when I’m doing virtual chats with friends/family/coworkers and don’t have enough natural light or background lighting in a given setting.

There are a number of things to like about this ring light. I routinely incubate chickens, and I keep my incubators in a cubby area over which is a bunk type bed, so the area is usually pretty dark. I have a security camera poised over the incubators so that I can see the current status right from my phone.

This lamp has a strong clip and a long flexible reach, so I can position it easily to provide ambient light that gives me a better view through my phone app. The light throws off a bit of heat, which surprised me at first since it is LED light, but the arm is long enough to keep the light from overheating an area of the incubators.

I LOVE the three “temperatures” of light- emulating daylight, incandescent, and an additional softer, warm color. When I was opening the box the first time, my partner commented that the light would even work well as a reading lamp if clipped on the headboard of our bed.

I think he’s right! The fact that one can easily adjust the brightness adds to this functionality. For these reasons, I recommend this ring lamp. I’m even considering buying a couple more, because the price is so reasonable compared to other clip on reading lamps I’ve seen.

…I imagine that if I find real value in these to somewhat specialized and “off label” uses for this lamp, it’s versatility would make it a good choice for many other situations as well!.

The best part of this item is the light. Several degrees of brightness, will be great for recording youtube videos or video conferencing. The phone mount gets the job done. Whether you need your phone off your desk and floating in the air, using your phone to facetime or zoom but your arm gets tired easily, the phone mount will keep your phone floating.

What isn’t all that great is the SHORT phone mount arm. It should have been as long as the light arm. So you will have to get creative to position this unit (and the phone mount arm) in order to record video looking down at your desk for.

whatever video you are trying to record. The WORST part of this product is the hand-clamp. I understand for a handclamp, it can’t be too stiff. But the clamp is 3. 5/5 so the brand/company should have opted for a screw mount clamp.

To be clear: the hand clamp here is passable. It will stay if you don’t move the whole unit too much, meaning be careful when you bend the arms, but it will stay wherever you secure it. But a screw mounted clamp would have been best.

I’ve been using this for almost a year now five days a week and it’s been perfect. It’s very bright, and the three light options of “blue-ish” (don’t what else to call it), warm, and then a combo of the two work well for Zoom meetings.

I also use it as a desk lamp because the brightness is perfect. It’s clamped to the window ledge that my desk is up against (won’t clamp to a laptop or external monitor very easily). It is not a high-end light, but it has been a perfect budget ring light.

And I look much better than all of my colleagues who don’t use any lighting. Money well spent here. I’ve had zero issues with it. I am upgrading to a larger light for more complex video work, but if you just need some simple video meeting light supplement, just buy this.

So I “lost” my fluke t5 meter that I had for almost 15 years. I decided to try this one. Paid $59 for it all in. Almost exact replica of my fluke, but this one adds a flashlight, an EMF reader for quick live wire checks using one of the forks, a capacitance checker, a diode checker, removable cat 3 & IV insulators & comes with a case.

It will also hold both leads on the back. However, I did like that the fluke has the wires permanently attached where this one needs to be attached or won’t fit back in the case. The flukes plastic seems like it would withstand a fall better.

The readings have been accurate.

I have a 2wd stampede and after replacing my stock brushed motor and ESC with this brushless motor and ESC IT IS AMAZING!!! At least 6 or 7 times the power of the stock motor!! NO need for a program card.

This unit will work with stock Traxxas recivers and transmitters!! There is no other way to take your RC to the next level or 3. And it will be one of your cheapest upgrades!!! That being said. the 2wd trucks like my stampede will need some extra weight like a roll cage or somthing to help it stay on the ground! If you have a 2wd I don’t recommend the largest Kv rated motor.

unless you plan on adding weight. This will be the best thing you do besides buy the RC itself.

I bought this radio as part of my move into the more modern 2. 4ghz radio systems. I have a lot invested in the older radios and needed an inexpensive radio to begin transitioning to the newer band. This radio is a great unit for my needs.

It is simple to use, comfortable to hold, and packed with ability. I have already begun using it and I am very pleased with the performance. You can’t do better at this price!.

I am in the process of replacing my old Redhead 800W Tungsten Halogen video lights which have served me well for decades. I selected these Godox SZ200Bi’s as a close replacement, but also noted the ability to operate at the 2800oK colour temperature so that they could be intermixed with the redheads as I transitions.

I also have some Bowens studio flashes and the ability to use the stands, soft box and umbrellas from those was a big factor in my selection. So far I have been extremely impressed with the Godox SZ200Bis; so much so I just acquired my second.

My first impression of this ringlight from the box was that the phone mount located above the ring light seemed off and the legs looked really Top heavy with scrawny legs. Surprisingly the quality of the legs did the best job of holding the phone up when its mounted above the light.

The actual phone mount part is built really well but sometimes its super hard to have it stay tighten so that the phone actually stays in place with the angle you want. The top, left, and right slots are built very flimsy and difficult to use.

Most of the time, the mount only slides halfway onto the slots and you have to use a lot of pressure/force just to get the mount in/out of the slot. Slots are thin and bad quality. I have a iphone 11 and if mounted on the left or right slots, the stand looses balance and can’t stand at all.

What I really like about this light is how there are three light modes and 10 brightness levels. Also like that the light is LED and USB powered.

This On Air Halo Light is awesome! Seriously. First, it is pretty easy to set up. You just screw in the tripod stand, then it has several areas where you can put the phone stand. Then you just slide in the pice and then screw in the phone holder piece.

The cord is pretty long too and plugs into like your phone charger plug. Then there is the remote where you can adjust the lighting level. Plus the remote is on the cord itself so no chance of losing it really.

This Halo light really gives off a lot of light and it is good lighting. So far i have used in my home in my small home office that doesn’t have a lot of lighting for my work Zoom video chats and in my living room where the lighting is not great.

I’ve also used for pictures and they just look better. I love this thing. It will be great for doing more pictures and videos. It really works well. I definitely recommend. I did receive this for free for testing purposes but the opinions here are based on my own experiences.

The Air Halo Light was very easy to set up and is just the right size for travel. The USB power cord is a perfect length for this specific Air Halo which is meant to be used for selfies or for filming up close.

I really liked the LED variations that it included, which were red, blue and white. The brightness can go up really high or be toned down to really dim, allowing for very flexible light and coloring set up.

I appreciate the rotating ball joint and screw hole that allows me to accommodate the phone. I did not like the smartphone holster which felt really rigid and difficult to put my phone in. I feel like I’ll end up accidentally breaking the holster at some point because of the strength I have to put in to open it and place my phone inside.

The tripod stand was perfect for a flat surface and could hold the weight of the Ring and phone without breaking, but it can’t stand up taller than intended. Gravity pulls it down to the table. My overall review on Air Halo Light is a 4 stars.

I received my Spectrum Unicorn Ring Light in a timely fashion. I bought this ring light because it has RGB modes, none of the others I researched had RGB. The USB cable is an added feature with various levels of adjustability for brightness and other modes.

I haven’t had a chance to experiment with all the possibilities. I am using it in my Cymatics experiments. It really helps to show off and enhance the effects. I’m using my professional tripods so I can adjust the lights to whatever height I need.

Definitely worth every penny. You won’t be disappointed, I know I’m not. I hope Spectrum plans to make one 14 inches, that would be great and I’d buy one!.

As a reluctant online teacher, I was dragging and propping up shadeless lights around my dining room classroom making so-so videos for my high school students. I’m excited that I am starting this new school year looking more upbeat and digitally with it.

I test drove my new ring light with some former students and they gave me big thumbs up. The bottom line is when I compare my new “studio” to what I was doing, it is such an easy, inexpensive, and positive improvement.

One more thing, when I get tired of teaching from my dining room table, I can move around the house with my new ring light to refocus my students on a different topic.

I have owned these style lights for 1-2 years now, so get ready for an in-depth review. For the price of these lights, they provide everything that the low-level prosumer photo/video person needs. They have effects, they are dimmable, you can use one to control the others, the app is alright, but if you are looking for a cheap option for a mid-high tier production, these probably aren’t it.

Pros: -Light seems very accurate and plenty bright for the cost -Easy to set up, comes with a carrying case, has standard light stand mounts & can run off of *two Sony LP style batteries -Wireless Master/Slave & Effects modes that let you set one light and the others follow, and TV/Police/Candle/Party modes for special effect lighting -Sturdy enough for most low level uses Cons: -When using an RGB mode with a color, as you dim the lights lower, the color shifts toward a primary (Ex.

if you have a teal color, as you dim the light, it shifts toward blue due to how the LEDs dim) -These lights require TWO batteries to work, they are NOT hot-swappable, and if one battery dies, the light dies -These are certainly not rugged, they are not made to be workhorses.

Don’t get me wrong, they have traveled with me to many a shoot, but they wear rather quickly, and the soft case is no exception. -The app is clunky and sometimes you have to power off/on in master/slave mode for them to auto-connect.

-Barn doors work, but they leave a bit to be desired, as it creates a grid of light, which is not usable in some cases. Overall, for the price, these are great. If these are all you can afford, they will probably do everything you need them to and more.

If you need a workhorse and something you can rely on for years to come, I’d invest in a higher budget item.

Was looking for a cheap RGB lighting solution. Didn’t expect to get an App at this price. Having used some more pro LED light apps, this one isn’t far off. (Controlling film lights on a phone is still kinda whack).

Biggest complaint there is that you can’t group the D800s together and create scenes with multiple lights. Bonus would be if you could do light sequencing and do light patterns of some kind (I. e. , scrolling through colors X,Y,Z at a variable speed).

In general the biggest complaint is that the lights aren’t step-less so there is no real clean fade in and out. So not good for any light cue-ing. The tech is there, I think. It’s a problem with the software.

If you use some of their preset looks you can see that the fading or color changing steps constantly. Not great. Assuming you’re working with one look at a time and you’re not hoping to go from one look to another while recording then you’re golden.

Mine came with a soft box, it, is also fine, though it didn’t come with instructions. I found that you just remove the barn doors and then you attach via Velcro straps. There are additional mounting brackets you can use but couldn’t figure it out and it seemed to work fine without it.

Biggest complaint there is that with the soft box on, it’s harder to angle the light down. I found if you go upside down you have a little more movement ability. The included diffusion panel works great too, would be better if they included additional grades of diffusion.

Or if you could buy them. The mount is there for other options. Ditto with the barn doors. Got the GVM batteries and the lifespan seems better than I’ve seen advertised (approx 45 minutes and I’ve used them for a couple hours and still have 75% remaining.

hmmm but cool). Wish the batteries came with a better charger. A dual plate with a percentage and USB power is what we’re used to these days. You cannot charge the batteries while the light is plugged in, which is too bad.

You have to remove them from the light first. The light stands are fine too, a little better than some other bottom shelf stands I’ve had in the past. Time will tell. The bag, as well, is better than some other bottom shelf bags.

And it fits everything the kit comes with compactly (with a little room to spare). Fits under the bed. Would benefit from more internal organization. Straps snf pockets would be nice. Unfortunately, you can’t pan the lights in their U-bracket / yoke.

You have to loosen the attachment to the light-stand to pan. So you can. Just not the way you’d think. As a semi-professional jack-of-all-trades, I like these lights and would recommend them. Definitely happy after tinkering for a couple of hours, especially considering their price.

Looks good on video and with stills. Looks good at 24fps and at 60fps. Stay on the look out for more from GVM, I certainly will. If they turn out to be terrible, I will update this review.

We are absolutely thrilled with this lighting kit for a number of reasons. The build quality is fantastic; the light stands are not the cheap variety, the barn doors are solid and the hinges will not bend like they have on other lights we own, the knobs and LCD on the lights seem to be well-designed, the bag is also well-made and contains removable velcro dividers.

Everything is included, which is impressive: three magnetic diffusers, a full count of six batteries instead of just two or four, as well as three AC adapters when they could have included only one or two.

Perhaps we most appreciate the light stand toppers which allow the lights to flex and angle (another kit we purchased a while ago required these to be purchased separately, but you guessed it – three of them are included in this kit).

The bi-color capability of the lights is wonderful and the LCD readout ensures we have the correct color temperature and sufficient battery levels so there are no unexpected outages. We were initially concerned that purchasing bi-color lights might come with a caveat as far as brightness is concerned, since the middle color temperature value uses 50% of cool nodes and 50% of warm nodes.

However, these lights are plenty bright, and on our first shoot with this kit we had our lights set between 40%-60% power with little to no ambient light. Having three lights in one bag along with a comprehensive set of accessories is a huge win for us, and as a bonus we had enough room left over in the bag to also include several other LED lights we already owned, making this bag the only thing we need to grab to have nearly every lighting need covered.

I have used this product at work (Corporate Video Production) and liked it so much I purchased this kit for my personal use. The kit is compact enough to carry to location, easy to set up and easy to dial in the right light.

Three lights give a key, fill and backlight to the interviewee. I like the magnetic stick on diffusers. I love the flexibility to set from 3200k to 5600k. The batteries last a long time. I have only used the kit on batteries since they are so long lasting and my interviews are not too long.

I have used them indoors and outdoors, if windy have sandbags. Outdoors they are not going to over power the sun, perhaps a little fill light, but in a shaded area are perfect. The light heads are smaller but proper positioning negated this as an issue for me.

The connectors below the light heads do have a hole for an umbrella if you want a larger light source or want to diffuse it more than the included diffusers. You will need to purchase the umbrellas as they do not come with the kit.

Just filmed in New Orleans with this kit. I did not have a hard case for the airline so packed it into a large suitcase with extra padding around it. It cost $35 to check due to the weight. No problems, but I plan to get a hard case for air travel.

The kit was heavy but easy enough with the shoulder strap to carry with other items to the interview location, which was in the hotel. For perspective: I’m a 160b man. The kit seems very durable for the money.

It’s well built and easy to set up. The case is well organized and designed to protect. I would recommend this kit for anyone who would like quality, ease of use and portability.

I purchased the 120D to serve two purposes: video interviews and “environmental” portraiture with still film on location, often interior. For interviews, for which I use a camera with an old, slow sensor (equivalent to about ISO 100), I have used both Lowel hotlights and CFL lamps.

For the portraits, I had previously used powerful studio strobes, but I’m trying to use mainly natural light now. I have been waiting for something like the 120D to arrive-great price, simple, variable intensity, daylight-balanced, low energy consumption, sufficiently bright.

The 120 can’t match the strobes for output, of course, but for my work, it’s enough, and I gain the advantages of continuous lighting. For the interviews, the light is just bright enough to give me adequate exposure from a wall or reflector bounce for f/2.

8-4. For the still portraits, I rate my (B&W) film typically between 200 and 800. The 120D is bright enough to squeeze by as an “emergency” bounced/diffused key light even with my 4×5 camera (typically used around f/16, the shutter speed will be in the neighborhood or or second), and more than bright enough to use as a fill.

Dialing in the right level, as with my strobes, is great for this. The 120D is simplifying my kit tremendously and will replace my other kits. I have also begun experimenting with small but bright LED flashlights with diffusion for accent lighting for still portraits.

As things look now, I’ll be carrying a few stands and accessories, a pair of flashlights, and the 120D, rather than 40 lbs. of gear. The 120 without the reflector creates an extremely wide illumination field for an extra soft bounce when desired.

The unit does warm up, but it’s not as hot as my halogen lights, and I don’t need to worry about overloading circuits. I haven’t gotten a battery yet, but that will eventually be an additional plus, replacing a long extension cord.

When it comes to budget COB video lights I don’t know that you’ll find a better value than the RC120D. I purchased two of them to add to my kit and I’m quite happy with them. They are as good as lights that are significantly more expensive and have good output.

What stops me from giving it 5 stars is the build quality. While it’s made of heavy duty plastic, I wish the yoke and the mounting pieces were made of metal. These are the two things I could see breaking first, so it’d be nice if they were just more solid.

Otherwise, this is such a great value.

This light actually surprised me. Much brighter than I was expecting for what I paid. Tried it with large and small Bowens mount lantern modifiers and it lit up a large area of the room easily. I bought 2 of these and 2 of the bi-color versions.

I have purchased other GVM items, and have been very satisfied with the quality of their products. I knew that these lights would do the trick for me from a lighting standpoint. They are sturdy, functional, and work like a dream.

The app remote control function is truly amazing, being able to easily control each light individually as well as jointly at the touch of a button. These lights have a great range of color and brightness, and are easy to adjust.

Tested the battery function and it worked as expected.

The brightness of these lights is phenomenal. I think they’re really high-quality, Display, buttons, and light panel are good quality also. The color range is also helpful. The lights also have some effect built-in.

I use these for video meetings several hours a day and they work great. I get complimented on my lighting all the time.

Great light unit. Saw someone talking about these lights on Facebook and wanted to try one out. It works better than I had hoped. You can adjust the brightness and temperature of the light. It reaches really high brightness levels and the color control is a great feature.

Worth the price.

I bought two of these and they just arrived today. Messing about and I can already tell these will be very versatile. The unit is a nice size, easy to understand and operate. No regrets. The only things I would point out is that these lights do not include a protective/carry case (which surprises me).

The other is that the included diffuser screen is semi-clear and the led lights are very visible. I want to use this as a white screen so I will need to acquire separate white diffusion material to suit that purpose.

Neither of these issues is a deal breaker, but if either issue matters to you, you will need to factor that in to your decision.

This is a great improvement of the previous model we purchased. Its better for free standing on the built in stand. Its remote works very well and easy to set up. Its certainly brighter than the previous model too.

Alongside the other 4 we have, it performs well – very quick to start and the fan is quieter too. The rear controls are simpler to use. The 12 volt cable plug is more robust that the old one which I had to replace due to metal failure in the holding screws.

These lights are great! I love the barn doors. I had an older Godox model around this price range, and this was definitely worth the upgrade. Affordable, too! If you’re in need of lights for videos or photos, I recommend these ones.
