20 Best Lick Mat For Dogs (2023 Updated)

Bought these two mats because I have a 16 week old kitten with crazy food aggression and scarfs food so quickly that if he finishes first, he’ll go steal from my other older kitten. Thought I’d use these mats occasionally just to see how he (and my other cat) would react.

It’s been 3 days and I’ve reached for these every single mealtime. These brought down his food aggression so well. He went from continuously growling while eating and finishing in under a minute to having a small growl as the mat hits the floor, then calmly licking it for another 10 minutes.

He’s so calm now, he and my other cat share the mat with no issues whatsoever. He even gets full and walks away while my other cat finishes since she’s much more slow and methodical. This would have been unthinkable a few days ago, and I can’t thank these mats enough! The amount of space to sink the food into is a little bit different with each mat since they have different patterns.

I recommend a pâté-style wet food with the green mat and with any shredded or more chunky food, like with chicken, the orange one. They are super easy to clean. I literally rinse one after breakfast, put it to dry, put the second out for lunch, then the first one is clean and ready for dinner.

I bought another similar slow feeder, but I keep reaching for these because they slow the cats down the most and are easier to clean!.

I love these slow feeder mats. I just ordered two more because they’re that good. They do slow my cat’s eating down, although I think freezing his wet food somewhat, on the mats, may be the best way to do it.

He still eats a little faster than he should otherwise. Before I got these, I had ordered mats from a different brand on here. These are much better. The designs on these are a lot easier to clean. As far as cleaning goes, I’ve found these to be pretty easy to clean in the sink.

There are a few things I do that makes cleaning them a breeze. For anyone having issues with getting these mats completely clean, do yourself a big favor and use a small scrub brush to clean them with.

An old toothbrush would probably work well too. Just sanitize it in rubbing alcohol first. 1. Soak mats in water first for at least 20 mins (if food is dried on). 2. Drain most of the water until there’s a thin layer covering the mats.

3. Squirt some dish soap on the mats 4. Use a small scrub brush to scrub the mats *If there’s anything that won’t come off the mat, hold it right up to the faucet and turn it on high (for those who don’t have a sprayer).

It sort of power washes them. I hope this helps.

I bought these for two reasons: to try with lick treats for both my cats, one of whom has some anxiety and needs more kitty enrichment, and to slow down my other cat who inhales his wet food. We just moved to a new place and they both are more obsessed with food than before, I think because it’s much colder here and they’re still a little unsure of the new home.

Both LOVE licking these with the liquidy lick treats and after just one time learned what it means when I get them out and came running, chirping, and crowding the counter for it. They also licked out the flakes and powdery bits of freeze dried treats I scattered on the mats.

However, they had a really hard time getting their wet food out of the grooves and about half was wasted. And one of my cats is quite small with a tiny tongue! The mats are easy to clean, so it wasn’t the end of the world.

Just won’t use them for meals again.

So my cats are really fussy and weird and things, so getting these I had no idea what would happen. I’m amazed to say that both cats use this. One more than the other, but they love it when I put the beef bone broth on it.

You’d think it’s the best thing ever. They want it every day. Definitely a paws up from the kitties.

I purchased 2 LickiMat Casper 1 for my daughter and the other for our own cat. Both cats clean up their food. They leave very little. We are very happy with this product.

My dog is an Alaskan Klee Kai (mini husky) so I’m always trying to find things to stimulate his brain and reduce his boredom. He’s very playful and full of energy. I bought this to see if it would help and it’s great! I used whipped cream and just spread it on the mat and it worked just as well as using peanut butter or anything of that nature.

The mat itself is made of silicone or something similar (says non toxic)! it doesn’t slide around at all on the floor which is a major plus. Also love that it’s dishwasher safe, microwave safe and freezer safe! I think I’m going to try adding water and freezing it.

My dog loves ice so I’m sure he would love this idea!.

My dog LOVES this lick mat – and I LOVE watching him lick and lick and lick. He truly makes me happy to see him engaged and looking forward to his lick mat. I can honestly say that ‘lick mat’ has joined the ranks of his vocabulary – along with his name, walk, cookie and peanut butter.

Also, thanks to others reviews, I tried out some other things for his lick mat – like cream cheese – which is now a new favorite…. Great purchase and easy to clean. I just rinse and then lay face down in warm soapy water to loosen anything that won’t come out.

This is a game changer! My chihuahua is in love with his new plate. The Boredom Buster Licking Mat is good for your pets anxiety and stress level as well as their mental stimulation. It also allows dogs who have a hard time chewing bones and that have no teeth to enjoy a delicious treat.

My dog goes nuts when he sees me carrying his mat over. Here’s a small list of what I put on his mat. Mashed sweet potatoes, peanut butter, pure pumpkin, mashed peas and carrots. Go get one if you haven’t! Your dog will love you even more :).

I was told about this from another dog-loving friend, and it arrived yesterday and my dog loves it. I find it slows her down on some of her food, and lets me put some crumbs from her liver treat bag into a format she can get to it.

I am going to try peanut butter but want to be sure it’s the kind that’s safe for dogs. Anyway it’s soft silicone and easy to clean, bright colour – so you can see where you’re putting the treat and how much, and is such an ingenious idea.

So yes, something you will definitely not regret purchasing.

I use this to feed my puppy her wet food. She really enjoys using it as it will keep her occupied and entertained for quite awhile. It’s great for mental stimulation. The material isn’t the strongest, so I am definitely considering upgrading to the tough version as I will continue to use Lickimats.

This version is ideal if you have a dog that isn’t such a keen chewer, although if they do chew, then go for the tough version.

Awesome for wet food. Our dog took nearly half an out to finish off his meal, first time tonight. It’s a soft silicone material so easy to wash and not to slippery so stays (mostly) in place. Our boy is a 12kg Spitz, and it’s a perfect size.

Prob would not be good for anything bigger. He did try to nibble but figured our it’s easy to lick.

Great way to keep food motivated dogs entertained. Easy to use for everyday breakfasts and dinners and can be frozen for even longer lasting meals or treats on a hot day. It’s really easy to clean so doggy peanut butter is also a great option for something quick.

I tried the other flat type Lickimat for our puppy when she was under 5 months old. Since her baby teeth were so sharp, the little bumpy things didn’t last for long. However this one is lasting longer probably because it is hard for our puppy to destroy while it’s wobbling.

We bought these for our two Shelties, who gulp down their meals. The Lickimat Wobble bowls have slowed them right down, and they will now spend 5-10 minutes eating their meals and licking the bowls clean.

They are excellent quality, and easy to clean.

I love it ! It the only feeder that slows my Five year old German Shepherd down. Three things, 1. I don’t like that it’s made in China , most things are these days unfortunately. 2. I wish it fit my large raised feeder.

3. The crevices are a little to small in some area for her to get her tongue in so , she’s 86 lbs. so clean up is a bit of a hassle. (I feed her a raw diet) This could be part of what makes her eat slower though 🤷🏼‍♀️ All in all It’s a great product.

I can always tell when my pup gets bored — he starts being naughty, jumping on us, biting our shoes, etc. As a 1 year old, he needs constant attention and stimulation. These lick pads are so helpful to keep him busy and entertained.

Neat Lick has a tray for its lick pads that are a MUST! The tray prevents the goopy mess of dog drool and the yummy treat on the lick pad.

My dogs loved licking their dinner and their rehydrated The Honest Kitchen food off of the Neat-Lik mats. However, the webbing in the middle is tighter in spacing, so food particles got stuck from their rehydrated food and they were unable to get the particles out.

Essentially, I wound up throwing away 1-2 Tbsp of their food. For the peanut butter I spread it on the outside larger webbings, which worked okay. Again, it got stuck in the crevices and was difficult for them to get all of it out.

When I washed them in the dishwasher, they did not lie flat again.

This has completely changed the traumatic experience that was bath time into a treat fest! My dog (small terrier) used to sound like I was murdering him: constant torturous whining and guttural yelps not to mention the look of utter betrayal.

I seriously worried the neighbors were going to call the police, and I’d have to explain that I’d merely poured warm water on him and sudsed him up lol. I’d tried handing him treats and lots of pets, but nothing worked.

It was just awful. After getting this and adding peanut butter to it before bath time, HE WALKED HIMSELF into the shower and started licking the mat. HE DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE HE WAS GETTING A BATH! Toward the end he was like, “Oh, I guess I’m wet,” but he had not MADE A PEEP.

And he has to have the medicated shampoo on his skin for 10 MINUTES. I got the square one bc I wanted more surface area for him to be distracted, but I’m sure the triangle shape works the same. Total game-changer.

This is an absolute game change to bath time! Rosie used to be terrified of baths. She would try to jump out and bath time was just a nightmare, so I avoided them at all costs, unless a bath was desperately necessary (like when she rolled in fox poop).

But now she gets in on her own and doesn’t put up any sort of fight! I will say, it didn’t work immediately – I eased her in. The first time I tried, it didn’t help at all. So I started letting her lick peanut butter from it multiple times before I actually used it in the bath.

Then when using it for the bath, I let her lick for a minute or two before moving it to the tub. Then I move it to the tub and let her lick for a minute before actually turning on the water. I’ve had it for over a year and it’s in just as good condition (and the auctions work just as well) as when I got it! It has also made nail clippings a lot easier as well!.

While I really like this concept. I dont know if I would buy another one. It doesn’t suction cup well to any surface. I even tried wetting it before. It stuck for all of 1min probably and then fell off.

Now my dog is frightened of it and she will only lick it off the floor now. Which is fine since it doesn’t stick anyways. But I was really hoping to use this while I shower her because she has such bad anxiety I thought it’d help calm her.

Obviously the material or something is not good for suctioning and that won’t be happening. 🙁 kinda dissatisfied and disappointed. I guess it’s still good slow enrichment for her to lick out of it off floor so I’m totally mad but still.

Our 70lb goldendoodle is obsessed with licking. He will just sit and lick forever unless we tell him to stop so I thought he would appreciate a lick mat. He was VERY excited when I gave him peanut butter in this.

Unfortunately, the pattern is perhaps too complex because his tongue is too big to fit into the small puzzle pieces. He went at it for at least 30 minutes, licking constantly and even trying to use his teeth to dig into the gaps, but there was still a lot of peanut butter in the mat.

He actually seemed more stressed because he couldn’t get all the PB. He was really worked up so I took it away to give him a break and let him calm down. Maybe if I’d let him lick longer he could’ve gotten more of it out, but if it’s supposed to make him happy and relaxed, I felt like it was having the opposite effect.

I still think a lick mat will be good, but I’ll have to buy one with larger or more shallow spaces. This product would probably be more satisfying for dogs with smaller tongues or maybe just more patience than my guy!.

My first experience with my Boston Terrier and the licking mat was a bust. She sniffed it and walked away. The next time I used it we were having people over and I put tuna salad in it. Usually when people come over, she goes into a barking fit every time the front door opens.

With the tuna salad in the mat, she totally ignored people coming in and entertained herself for a good 30 mins. I tried it again with canned dog food and again she entertained herself for 20-30 mins.

I bought this as an add-on to my Boston Terrier Scout’s nightly ‘dessert’ after dinner. Scout is also having dental surgery soon and I thought this would be an easy way to enjoy something soft. I have tried peanut butter, pumpkin and unsweetened applesauce.

Applesauce works the best! Easy to rinse off! I also freeze the mat for a few hours before giving to Scout. I love this mat! So does Scout!.

The best thing I’ve ever bought for my fur babies. I bought three, one tuff soother and the duo soft packs with buddy and soother. Very versatile in foods that can be used. We sometimes crack an egg and microwave them.

But mostly we pair it with Buddy Butter by Barkbistro and add some dry toppers! Entertains and calms my hyperactive pups.

Got this for both my small Shih-Tzu’s. My female has anxiety and separation anxiety so I’m always looking for ways to keep her occupied and mentally stimulated to help calm her down both for when I’m home and when I’m not.

She took to this almost immediately. I mixed together some pumpkin, lowfat plain yogurt, banana, and honey to slather on and then froze it. It took her about 30 minutes before she got tired of licking at it and then took a nap, and she had only gotten about 3/4 of the way through it.

My male still isn’t too sure he likes it much but it may just be the mixture he isn’t as fond of so I’ll try something different for him. All in all it was a great purchase!.

Our dog has separation anxiety so I put peanut butter on one before we leave the house and it keeps him occupied and calm for quite some time. We also give him one when the grandchildren are here or we have company.

Ive done the banana on it also and that was a huge hit. He does prefer the green one. It has smaller, closer nubs. I highly recommend for nervous or anxious dogs.

We bought the slomo mat to slow our Cavalier x Maltese Barkley down when he eats. Barkley has diabetes, is blind and inhales his food. We have tried a number of methods to slow him down so that he feels fuller for longer and his food can digest better.

The Lickimat Slomo has managed to slow him down more effectively than any other device. I put his dry food and wet on the mat and make sure I smoosh it in a little. Being blind, the mat means that he needs to use his other senses to find the food as well.

A bit of enrichment as well.

I found these lick mats after seeing TikToks about enrichment at mealtime for dogs and my dog loves it! It has been super helpful in crate training my rescue dog. I fill it with his wet food and pop it in the freezer for a couple of hours to firm up and it keeps him occupied for 30-45 minutes and helps drain his mental energy.

It’s very easy to clean and the silicone stays put on the floor of his crate. He loves it so much I ordered another one so I’d have an extra!.

We have a new puppy in our home. I bought the Honeycomb Enrichment Licking Mat for our 11 year old chihuahua thinking it might help with expected anxiety with a new dog in our home. Instead we have found it to be great with the new puppy! We use it with canned puppy food, yoghurt or peanut butter to distract him and calm him down – and it was a great way to administer liquid medicine instead of a syringe in the mouth.

Well, I loved this for 2 days. For once, I found something that keeps my crazy pup distracted for a long time. Then I made the mistake of leaving it in the crate with him unattended and he ate all corners of the mat :(.

he is half pit bull with very sharp teeth though. Lesson learned, I’ll be buying another one because the mat is great, but no more leaving him unattended.

Do I like lick mats in general? Yes, they’re great! I use them for my cat’s wet food to offer him some more enrichment/mental stimulation (by having him “work” a little harder for his food). Do I like *these* lick mats? Eh, you get what you pay for.

These particular mats are durable and the blue one is difficult to clean. One mat easily holds one meal of wet food for my cat. If I freeze the mat, it takes him about 30 min to finish. Because of the silicone material, I can put them on hardwood or tile floor and they don’t slide or move around at all.

My two big issues with these are: 1. They’re pretty flimsy and easy for pets to destroy. After several months of regular use, one of the mats is torn up to the point that it’s no longer usable. 2. For some reason I find the blue hexagon mat harder to clean than the grey square.

It’s impossible for me to get the wet food out of every crevice with a sponge (even after letting it soak).

Our Aussie has been an obsessive licker since day one. That little tongue just wont stay in that mouth. She loooooooves soft food stuffed into Kongs so I thought I would give this a try. It was an immediate hit with her and she is in absolute lick-BLISS with these! The surface area is pretty large and a lot of food/treat can actually go on them so I am careful to measure out her soft food in advance of placement.

I like to put them down on a towel near us while we watch tv in the evenings. They are made of a food grade silicone and the back is very slick/solid so I have had no issues with them sliding around.

Putting a little bit of water on the back seems to make them “stick” to the hardwood floor better. They are fairly non-stick so clean up has been easier then I anticipated though I do recommend using a dish-brush to clean them.

I like that it was a 2 pack so I can rotate them between cleaning. Personally I do not leave my dog unattended with them though she has never been a chewer of toys. The only down side is that the nubs are a little hard/has a right angle and quickly made my fingertips a little sore after cleaning them or putting food on them.

This could potentially leave a dogs tongue sore? I’ve watched carefully and she does not seem to complain about it and seems to have figured out her own way of getting the food out (faster and faster each time).

These lick mats have been a wonderful addition to our rotation of puzzles and treat dispensers to help keep our Aussie engaged and active.

I bought these to freeze “wet” treats for my dog. He always chews through bones so I’ve been trying to find something to entertain him a bit longer. I spread peanut butter, yogurt, wet dog food, pureed fruits (banana, apple), and spray cheese into these and stick them in the freezer and take them out when needed.

They don’t take him super longer to finish (maybe about 15-25 minutes depending) but it seems to soothe him and gives me a short break. I also use them when I am trying to brush my dog who doesn’t like being groomed.

I always give a bedtime snack to my dogs after their last walk of the night and these area a great tool to help them start to settle down for the night. My only complaint is that these slide across the floor when the dogs are licking them.

That might not be such a bad thing because it shows them down extra!.

Dogs love the lick bowls. Unfortunately, I was not in the same room the entire time, and when one of my dogs was done with the peanut butter, she chewed the bowl to pieces. I still have one bowl and 3 lick mats, so all 4 of my dogs can have a treat.

It’s great for anxiety lickers, and takes some time to get all their peanut butter, but now I know: Stay in the same room and remove them when done!.

I would suggest running this snuffle mat through the washer with an unscented detergent and without any scent in the dryer prior to use. Dog noses are powerful! For the flattening issues mentioned, washing it first made mine stand up very well.

I also store it hanging through a clothes hanger, fibers down, between use. Helps to keep it fluffy. I wash mine frequently. This is perfect for a nice forage experience for my 50 lb Golden. She does nosework, but since we are in an apartment, this is one of the better snuffle mats that is not fleece, which have not met our needs.

The size I am not particularly concerned about unless you have a giant breed. Mine is a 50 lb Golden with a nose that can fit in places, so ability to increase level of difficultly was important. Difficulty can be increased dramatically if you take the time to wedge tiny pieces of dried beef lung or jerky into the very base.

Also, ANY breed can use their nose to find food, including sighthounds. I have seen quite a few sighthounds in nosework classes. If a dog is struggling with any snuffle mat or is new to snuffle mats, it’s important to put a few high value treats that can be easily sniffed out on the mat.

Repeat and increase difficulty, don’t be afraid to help your dog by pointing to a piece of jerky they may have missed. Start adding in the kibble until you can feed the whole meal. Some dogs find mats too hard out of the gate, just like kongs, and need some help.

I scatter feed through my apartment, but this mat best simulates grass foraging and is easiest to wash. Wash frequently to keep fluffy! I love the non-plastic backing and that it holds up so well in the wash!.

My poor, rescue, 22-lb terrier is on crate rest as he undergoes heartworm treatment. I’ve been trying to get as many low-key puzzle toys to try to mitigate boredom, and this toy has done wonders! To stretch out mealtime even longer, I’ve been using tiny kibble (for toy breeds) to hide in this mat, but I’ll probably switch to the larger-sized kibble once he’s done with treatment.

He loves snuffling things out in this!! It keeps him engaged and occupied for quite some time (in fact, even when we both think he’s found every bit, he can usually return to it later and root out a few more pieces.

) That said, he loves to shake all his toys, so it didn’t take him long to figure out he could shake this too. It was a fiasco with all that small kibble!! I ended up sewing on adhesive Velcro strips to the corners of the mat (and sticking the other sides of the Velcro to the tray of his crate (they can be covered up when I add a plush crate liner on top ) and so far that’s worked great.

A smarter/more determined dog could probably out-pull the Velcro, though. Perhaps using existing “grass blades” of fabric on the mat to tie each corner of the mat to the sides of the crate mat also work? tldr: great, engaging activity! It’s especially good for stimulating innactive dogs.

Small design modifications are required to prevent dogs from just shaking out all the kibble, though.

I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a mat for under the dog feeder and I needed it to be a certain size so I was limited on what I could get. This mat is a good size, very flimsy and EVERYTHING sticks to it and it’s almost impossible to get it off the mat.

I finally broke down and use the hose attachment on the vacuum cleaner to try and get the dog and cat hair off the mat. It got a lot of it but not all of it. When you wash it be prepared to let it air dry.

If you dry it with a towel or paper towel it sticks to it. I’m going to continue to use it because it’s helping stop water getting on the floor. In the meantime I will continue to find a way to stop things from sticking to it.

Needed a washable mat for feeding our mini poodle. We feed home cooked with puree pumpkin gravy so controlling mess is necessary. This mat is flexible, not heavy, and stays put when placed on floor. It is very easy to wipe or take to sink for scrub.

Completely solved our feeding mess concern. Unobtrusive mat, fairly priced, highly recommend. I bought one for each dog and for under water dish.

We have cats that are really messy eaters and wet food would end up all over the floor. Dried wet food can sometimes be hard to clean off of tile, so we tried this food mat. We purchased the XL mat. It’s perfect for daily cleaning of food bits and now it’s a cinch to take care of that problem.

However, it’s kind of challenging to clean the loose cat fur that ends up on the mat. I use a wet paper towel to wipe it and the food comes up easily but the fur kind of rolls up into little balls. I’ve washed this in the sink as well, but I always want to get the fur off first so it doesn’t clog our sink.

Washing in the dishwasher was okay, but the large size makes it a bit unwieldy. Another thing to note is that the mat came folded in half and the fold mark has not gone away (in about the 6 weeks that we’ve been using it).

Not the end of the world but not the most aesthetically pleasing. All that aside, we really like this very functional mat and would recommend it.

My dog loves this, I smear it with pate and he will spend ages licking it off. He does like to throw it around so the sticky feet come in handy, although it wont stick to my Lino, only the laminate in the hall.

Its a bit of a pain to clean obviously because of all of the ridges but its silicone so i soak it in hot water and it actually cleans really well after a soak. Great buy. He hasnt managed to rip it despite his best efforts.
