I usually use ITX boards but my case also takes M-atx so I tried this board. First thing I notice is post time, Best I could do with this board was 13secs, which for me is quite high, But I did notice that unlike ALL other Intel Z690 boards that I tried, this board powers on right away after a power loss, Unlike the others that have a 2.

5-4sec delay, but even with this attribute, it still posted slower than most, and that is with fast boot and no storage devices attached, attach a usb storage device, regardless of speed and it will add several secs to Asus boards, why they take so long to check a non-boot device is way beyond me.

Board did see my G. Skill 6000 ram perfectly and XMP worked without issues. Using the one button click with the Amory crate software to Oc the system achieved good results with minimal heat increase.

Of course the Amory crate software has around a zillion services running which concerns me. Rgb lights worked well, software worked well, Fan control was good. Unlike the Msi control center the Amory crate software was stable at all times.

My benchmarks on this board were comparable to the Other Intel competitors, If this board would post quicker I would of kept it, but my MSI Meg Unify posts quicker and runs just as well.

The motherboard looks pretty nice and the overall specs are fair for a B560 board. However, the unit started to show problems on day two of running it. In particular, the RGB lights on the board would randomly go off or wouldn’t come on when you turn the computer on.

Even after updating everything and installing Asus’ Armoury Crate, the board still wouldn’t function correctly. One of the USB ports also didn’t work. The bad thing is that I was replacing an Asus Rog Maximus VIII motherboard that just died on me.

When I transferred my Windows license to this motherboard, that used up my license transfer. But then this one didn’t work correctly either! After buying a Gigabyte B560 Aorus Pro AX board (which is wonderful and works perfectly!), I couldn’t transfer the license again.

So, I had to buy another copy of Windows 10 to install on the computer. In the end, I wasted time on the build with this motherboard and had to purchase another Windows 10 license. All in all, not happy with Asus products.

On my next build, I’ll definitely avoid them (I also have light bleed on an Asus Pro monitor. shoddy company I suppose).

Most money I’ve ever spent for a motherboard. Chasis fan 3 header directly next to the CPU socket and hidden under the CPU cooler. With CPU air coolers as large as they are now, the chasis 3 fan header is difficult to access.

Same for the M2 slots. Have an RTX 3080 and both are covered by the GPU as well as the 1x PCI. Any tinkering post install is quite difficult. 4x Power Header located which is nearly impossible to get to especially if there are exhaust fans at the top of the case.

It is a microATX board; but, layout of pins and headers in some very difficult to reach locations. Definitely not a motherboard for easy upgrades in the future. Tinkering requires disassembly. Also, had an M2 drive die after day 1.

Not sure if it’s the socket or the drive. This socket, like those in recent past also extremely fragile, even with caution. Bending pins are extremely easy, even if you’ve built PCs before.

I bought a gaming system from ABS and after 4 months the board died. They sent me a replacement after taking about 3 days of phone calls to reach them. Now the replacement board has died and what appears to be bad RAM too.

Trying to reach out to ABS is a nightmare. Hold times are around 20 minutes where they then either tell you to leave a message (which they never return) or they just say they’re too busy and call back again.

You can do this 10 times a day and never recieve a response. This is my son’s primary PC for school and he’s been without a computer for a week now and ABS is impossible to reach. I did finally get a reply from an email I sent them after several days and they are asking I send back the board and the RAM before a replacement is sent out.

That’s going to add several more days to the downtime on this machine. Bottom line is that my experience with ABS’s hardware and builds is atrocious. I would never waste another penny on one of their systems.

And their support is woefully understaffed or they simply don’t give a #*%! about their customers. Support is a critical component when buying a PC and they fail quite miserably.

I have always been a gigabyte fan since they provided the most compatible support for hackintoshing since the early days of hacking began however lately their quality of product is going downhill. Still better than any ASUS product, their QC and overall build quality has decreased.

I was having a lot of issues with freezing and reboots so upon further inspection, I noticed the glue holding the M. 2 support onto the motherboard has come loose and my m. 2 card was just sitting in there dangling.

I ended up having to use Rapidfuse to glue it back into place and havent has any issues since but for the price you pay these days, you would think their QC team would be on the ball.

This motherboard is great for budget gaming. The chipset is suitable for overclocking K series processors (like my i5 11600k), and it has plenty of I/O features on the board itself. It also has a few NVMe slots for fast storage, including one with a decent heatspreader to keep temps down.

The integrated WiFi/Bluetooth dongle is quite helpful if you don’t have a wired connection. The only gripe I have with this board is that there’s no USB type C port on the rear I/O, but there are plenty of type A ports so I can’t complain too much.

Installing wasn’t too difficult and the instructions were thorough enough. I had two main complaints. First, the proximity of the RAM slots to the processor is very close, thus making it difficult to fit a properly sized cooling apparatus over top of the processor without sacrificing slots.

This is because of the fan (Cooler Master) really; the fan protrudes way out, which is good for cooling but really does eat up space. Have to figure out a clean solution for this. Second, this board DOES support NVMe/PCIe/M2/M-Key (the industry needs to get back to simpler naming if they’re going to go around changing SSD tech again), but the way they do it is a bit confusing.

See, this went into a new PC that I built to basically upgrade/replace my business PC (a pre-built DELL), and DELL uses the tiny M-Key SSD in their towers. Well, this board DOES work with those. but not optimally.

If you look at the image, there’s a plate that says “02”. You need to remove this, and underneath is an M-2 slot. This slot supports M-Key SSDs, even the small ones, but there’s no screw hole to secure it in place (they only have screw holes for the longer SSDs).

Which means the only thing holding it down is the plate itself. This works but isn’t optimal. I don’t know why the board manufacturers are not making their boards compatible with the smallest size SSDs given that it’s where most of the pre-builts are going.

This was a bit of a tight fit into a pretty large tower. It wasn’t too big of a deal except for the power supply frame; two of the wires are basically right up against it plus I needed to add my USB3 expansion card (this already has 6 slots, but I bought it, so.

) and the wiring are right tight against the card, which bothers me slightly.

Overall a perfectly functional motherboard, just a couple minor gripes before I get into the tl;dr about the network drivers below: – Placement of the SATA ports can make them difficult to access with a decently-sized GPU installed in the first PCIe 4.

0 slot – Default memory clock speed is low for some reason; XMP (extreme memory profile) needs to be turned on or it will likely underclock your 2400MHz DDR4 RAM and cause crashes under load – BIOS menu isn’t the most intuitive and some settings take a bit of digging to find (YMMV, obviously) – The big one: doesn’t come with any network drivers installed, and the stock BIOS has some issues with the drivers loaded on the included USB.

MAKE SURE to set up both a USB drive with the latest motherboard drivers and a USB drive to flash the latest version of the BIOS from; both can be downloaded from MSi’s website. This is good practice when installing any new motherboard, but if (like me) you’ve been spoiled by other brands, you may not be used to doing it.

One final note: make sure your Windows 10 installation media is using a recent version of the OS if you’re doing a clean installation; some of the driver installation software won’t run on versions from more than a couple years ago, and obviously you can’t update Windows without an internet connection.

I have recently switched to AMD Ryzen 5 3600x, after some issues with my Intel CPU. The MSI( B450 Tomahawk Max came highly recommended on forums, with experts focusing on the strong VRM for a B450 board and good VRM cooling.

Pros: + Tomahawk “Max” version has a 32Mb BIOS. It will be able to support all the past and future CPUs (Ryzen 4000 is coming out in fall of 2020, some b450 board that have 16MB bios will have to “chose” which older CPUs they will support if switching to the new Ryzens BIOS.

This one most probably will support all of them) + BIOS-flashback function with a button on the IO shield area. This means unbrickable BIOS and possibly flashing back and forth between older and newer BIOSes.

Thus Ryzen 4000 BIOS upgrade will be “unilateral” (non-revertable) as AMD said – well, not on this board, I think. This one has the BIOS-flashback and in my experience that will allow flashing older BIOSes back, if interested.

Since the BIOS on this particular board might support all Ryzen generations, that’s just a precaution. Still = unbrickable bios. + Good 4+2 phase VRM, capable of overclocking even a 3950x (with serious airflow over the VRM) + Large and efficient VRM heatsink covering the IO area + Very good performance with my RAM XPG 3600CL17 – I can easily drop the timings to 15-16.

I have recently tested this memory with one of the latest Intel “K” CPUs on another board and it couldn’t run even at XMP settings properly. This MSI b450 T Max board’s BIOS was ironed out and has no issues with the memory at this point.

In fact it outperformed that intel z490 board. Cons: – SATA ports 5 and 6 do not work even with the most current BIOS – a problem reported by a few users! I moved my two mirrored HDDs to ports 3 and 4 and solved the issue, but two practically dead ports is not ok in my book.

– No Addressable RGB header! I had an AIO with a hub that connects only to an A-RGB header and was out of luck. I cannot control the RGTB via software, but the AIO has a separate remote, so there is that.

Some people report using a 12v to 5v RGB converter (with some complaining of burnt cables) or another hub that can do the conversion. – Board layout could be better – the Front Panel connectors are located in the middle-lower part, a bit of a stretch for some cases.

– RGB software control only available via Dragon Center, which installs other bloatware too. The Dragon Center recognized both the RGB strip on the motherboard (sort of “under” the RAM area) and my XPG RGB ram, but only if there is no XPG software already installed.

It did not recognize my Power Color Red Devil rx5700 (flashed to XT). RGB integration is an issue for all vendors, it’s not an MSI specific issue, but it’s good to know, I think. I ended up with my AIO rgb being controlled by remote, as there is not ARGTB header and had to install another software for my GPU.

– Audio amplification is not as good as one of the main competitors. Neutral: ~ the BIOS takes getting used to. Conclusion: with all its minuses, this is a very solid board in terms of the quality and looks.

I assume it will be able to drive Ryzen 4000 without a problem – the MSI b550 Bazooka has the exact same VRM, so that’s your proof. For $20 discount when you bundle this motherboard with a CPU, I got it for $95.

That’s a killer price from Microcenter! I’d say it’s a must buy.

Choosing a motherboard can be tricky given you have to consider form factor, features, etc. The MSI Tomahawk MAX, however, is one of the most highly reviewed B450 boards, which is what made me interested in it.

It is not hard to see why. It is very affordable (Around $105 for me, since I purchased a Ryzen CPU with it), and it also performs very well. It has a good VRM and good power delivery for a mid-tier build.

It has a single M. 2 slot in the center, and has plenty of fan and rgb headers that are easy to access. The BIOS is very easy to navigate, just click XMP to get your RAM up to its highest frequency (the board supports up to around 4000 mghz RAM).

The top of the board, where it says ‘Arsenal Gaming’ even has a channel to hide your cpu fan cable. As far as looks go, it is an all black and grey board, so it will look good with just about everything.

The only lights it has are a set of about 8 or so LED’s on the back the board that light up red by default, but can be changed to different colors and settings through MSI Mystic Light! You can also turn off the rgb lighting completely through the app if you prefer.

The io shield is not attached, but was not too hard to install on my case. Overall, this was the perfect B450 mobo for my first build, and I am very happy with it.

I usually upgrade my PC every 12 months, and I generally spend a few weeks looking at reviews and feedback or products before I buy them. After reading hundreds of articles, I eventually decided on the MSI Tomahawk Max for my Ryzen 3600X build.

I was originally looking at the more premium MSI X570 Gaming Carbon, however the price difference is big, and the features on the Tomahawk are more than enough for my needs at the moment. I don’t usually cut costs on motherboards, my last couple of boards have been close to the £200 mark, however this time around my budget was a little lower than usual.

First impressions are that this is much more premium board than its £90 price tag would imply. The packaging is solid, the board is well protected inside, there’s a decent manual, a CD with drivers (although I feel a USB key would better these days) and the board itself looks great.

I didn’t want a fancy RGB board as I was looking to keep costs down for this build. There is some LED lighting on the Tomahawk – but not too much, so if that’s what you’re looking for, maybe look at something else in the MSI range.

The board itself is a sleek gunmetal grey colour, with some nice chunky heatsinks. It looks very ‘military’, which is in keeping with the product being named after the Tomahawk missile. Connectivity is good – 6 SATA connections, plenty of system fan points, and M.

2 socket which is important to me as that’s where I’ll be running my games from. My system contains 3 x SSD, 1 x mechanical drive and an M. 2 drive, it’s not in a large case, and yet I found the motherboard very easy to work with – it’s very well-spaced out, and the important connectors are situated in thoughtful places to allow for easy cable management.

I’m using a Corsair H100i for CPU cooling and it fits beautifully on the board – the pre-installed cooler mounts are perfect for it. On the rear I/O panel there’s a Flash BIOS button which is a great addition (it saved the day earlier today!).

The BIOS itself is really good as well – A full-featured GUI with decent overclocking options. For me personally, the product’s strengths are: Decent layout Great connectivity Well priced Good looks If I had to pick one criticism, it’s that the 4 x SATA ports could be moved a bit lower.

My graphics card (Radeon RX 5700 XT) pushes down on them, as a result I had to unplug 2 of them and move them to the 2 sockets at the bottom of the board because the RX 5700 was causing them to drop out.

However, this was only a minor niggle for me. I did have some trouble flashing the BIOS today – it repeatedly froze on a blank screen after flashing. I reset a few times and no joy, however the Flash BIOS button on the board rescued things! Using the button and a USB stick, I was able to roll back to a previous BIOS version and everything was fine.

I would highly recommend this motherboard to anyone looking to build a Ryzen system on a budget. You really won’t be disappointed.

Wasted over 30 days (Newegg’s refund/return policy) for replacements and negotiations with Intel (processor), Samsung (memory) and Asus (video card) misled by Supermicro support that the problem related to proc, memory or video card.

Checked all components on other motherboard (GIGABYTE MD80-TM0) – everything was working faultless. Ordered another Supermicro X10DAL-i-O – got the same issue (defective P1-DIMMA1 memory slot). So, now will waste another month or more returning first mobo to Supermicro not expecting replacement cuz this issue is definitely related to other X10-DAL-i mobos and they will not provide refund due to their smart warranty policy (if the item not bought directly in Supermicro store, there is no refund in that case).

Another mobo will be returned to Newegg (fortunately still have time for refund under their policy).

The X299 chipset is the gaming version of the C612, just like the X99 was the gaming version of the C610. C612 has support for dual procs and less lanes for PCIe. It’s not really meant for gaming, SLI, etc.

; but if you’re like me and need a build server in a mid tower, this is it.

– You’re buying a server board. It assumes you know what you’re doing (i. e: it won’t shut down if a CPU is overheating, only ring an alarm) – The startup beeps are a little startling on first boot – If you plug in a newer GFX card, don’t expect to reach a fan port comfortably – The heatsink next to CPU1 is a bit top-heavy, so don’t push it around too much.

– Barely enough room for aftermarket RAM heatsinks, so plan accordingly.

Tremendous expansion capacity – lots of ECC RDIMM slots, PCIe slots, SATA ports. Able to use inexpensive surplus Xeon E-26xxv3 and v4 processors with tons of cores. IPMI for headless remote access. Builtin video (no need for extra card).

Fits in a standard ATX case, uses regular ATX power supply (w/8-pin CPU power). Just watch out for the fact that the LGA 2011v3 socket requires a cooler with a “Narrow” ILM mounting – not all coolers come with that.

The Supermicro SNK-P0050AP4 works well and is very quiet.

Compatible components (what I have that worked): RAM (Crucial 16GB RDIMM x 8 = 128GB): Model #: CT16G4RFD4213 Item #: N82E16820148855CVF Cooler (expensive but extremely quiet): Model #: NH-U9DXi4 Item #: N82E16835608042 What you need to know: – I was only able to get the remote console going using Java 8u31 (the latest at the time of writing) – If you’re getting “Connection Failed” when trying to connect to the console, disconnect 1080p monitors from the VGA port and cold restart.

You may need to reset IPMI too. Lower resolution monitors don’t seem to be a problem. – Set the IPMI type to “Dedicated”. Google why the default, “Failover” is problematic. – Some useful CPU settings are disabled in the BIOS by default (eg.

AES NI). Spend some time enabling the CPU features that are applicable.

This motherboard is great for Xeon cpus. The Boot is slow(boot process take some minutes, 4 stars). The only issue I had is regarding the Cooler socket. Its a “Narrow ILM LGA 2011” socket and 99. 9% of commercial coolers and water cooler fits only “Square ILM LGA 2011”, so I had to search for very specific cpu coolers (3 stars).

9/19/2015 Truly a workstation motherboard. The physical appearance of this motherboard is all business. In particular I was happy all of the SATA HDD ports were manifold in a single place making connections clear and neat.

A second attribute is the addition of a power connector adjacent to the PCIe buss, I think a very good idea promoting stability. In reference to this connector, there is no documentation comment to this.

I am using the Xeon E5-1650 v3 processor, however, this motherboard is compatible with a wide-array of Xeon and other I7 devices, allowing for continued upgrade. Also, as I have populated the memory with 64GB, I may double this in the future if need be so.

There is ample room and more for the processor thermal solution I employ. Although the foot-print for this motherboard is CEB, it is identical to an ATX foot-print with the exception it is about 0. 9 inch longer (measured from the rear ports to the cabinet front).

With this in mind all fasteners and rear port accommodations are identical therefore if you have an additional inch of clearance within your ATX cabinet, I should think you have no problem fitting this motherboard within, if so desired.

For myself I have an NZXT Adamas Aluminum Mid-tower ATX cabinet, short of 0. 100 inch clearance which I remedied in my machine shop. Concerning BIOS, Drivers and Documentation: The motherboard came with BIOS version 402 installed.

A newer version, 501, is now available. I found no difficulties with locating and downloading all required drivers, applications and documentation updates. All drivers installed with ease and at this time prove to be most stable.

BIOS update is a breeze. I am impressed with the GUI BIOS interface. Quite easy to navigate and very intuitive. I am one not inclined to over-clock, therefore, I cannot comment on this subject. My media applications include Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and the likes.

Engineering is both EDA and CAD with Alibre Design 3D my primary mechanical. With this motherboard, my graphics selection, and memory compliment I receive stellar performance throughout. In closing I compliment the ASUS engineering staff and state; I receive that for which I paid.

Im selling this board because I no longer have a desktop system which supports it. The board itself is very stable and their are no other X99 boards on the market that are as feature rich or as customizable.

I have used the specific board I listed in the sell long enough to know its stability and functionality. The ability to overclock and push this board to its limits knowing that the board is designed that way is a feature lacking in most other rivals.

I have never had any issues being able to update firmware and even changing back to a previous firmware if needed for maximum stability. Lock ups and OS failures related to hardware were rare. Asus set the standard in its design and based on my experience with this particular motherboard any future desktop systems I build for myself will only use Asus workstation motherboards.

I got this board after my Rampage V Extreme had a RAM slot break. I originally wanted this but was out of stock at the time. Compared to the Rampage V Extreme, this board is the way the ROG motherboard should have been.

This system seems to startup smoother and faster. All the PCIe slots are x16 size and look rather aesthetically nice. Some are X8 pinout however. Overall this board has a sleek professional look to it.

Its also interesting this MB has 2x 8 pin power connectors for the CPU and the Asus ROG/Rampage V Extreme only has 8 and 4 pin connectors. Xeon and ECC RAM support is also a bonus whenever I get to that.

Installed is: i7 5930K GTX 980ti 32GB Corsair 8 sticks 4GB each Intel 400GB PCIe SSD 4x HDD.

I was going to use this to upgrade my existing VM environment and possible put in a dedicated video card with an older windows OS to play older games “BUT” supermicro has to be difficult and not make things compatible.

Ex: standoffs not matching (plastic ones for brass), then the water blocks not being compatible therefore having to get “compatible” supermicro heatsinks. LAME!!! P. S. IF YOU SAY ATX, E-ATX then make it FIT and not force server builders to buy a SM case that the builder DOES NOT want.

Be aware of tight fitment on this board in cases. The memory slots on the top sit very close to my radiator making putting a fan on it impossible. I plan on ducting two fans into the radiator from the case door.

I would also suggest buying 8 sticks of memory to utilize quad channel DDR4 unlike my silly mistake of only buying four. The PCI slot options in the BIOS are daunting and have no explanation as far as what they do so that’s something else to be aware of.

Not touching them is probably a good idea. Supermicro gave me no explanation as to what all they options do when asked. Lastly, I have a Intel X540-T2 card which seems to sporadically work. I have another on order which hopefully will work but there might be a compatability issue there.

You *WILL* have to disable onboard LAN if you want your system to boot WITH a 10Gb Intel card. UPDATE: The X540-T2 card I got was defective. I have since replaced it and it works just fine.

I purchased this board for a general professional workstation upgrade; I am upgrading from the Supermicro C7X58. The X10DAi is a wonderful and stable board. I selected this board mainly for CPU-GPU application development, large memory and core counts, and use with common professional applications.

Yes, I dabble with games (it’s fine for that), but this board is by definition for workstations and hardcore gamers might want to look elsewhere. It will take me a few years to fully build-out my implementation because of the memory costs.

If you plan select this board, do realize it is a long-term investment. I would strongly recommend buying “starter” memory until LRDIMM prices stabilize. I installed 32GB of RDIMM (Crucial 4GB modules, CT2K4G4RFS8213) which will hold me over until LRDIMM fall further…which they are doing thank goodness.

I will max out at 512GB (32GB modules).

I have dual Xeon v3 2630 CPUs running with 32GB Crucial ECC RDIMM on this. I bought an NZXT Case only to have to mod it when I found while searching online that this board is an EEATX. a SuperMicro only standard.

Newegg, please let people know this is EEATX. I bought an EATX Case only to find it didn’t fit. Didn’t stop me, I modded the case (Cheaper than SuperMicro’s) but people should know this. I built mine to be an Adobe Premiere Rig.

I have the knowledge to build a system like this (and am posting the review from said rig) but people should know this. Also, SuperMicro via email did confirm, you need not just ECC, You need REGISTERED ECC.

Big difference. I used the Crucial Server Memory kit (which doesn’t say it’s Registered but I found it it is) x2. They work great. no issues. Also, 16-cores/32-threads @2. 4Ghz (Dual Xeons) beat the 12-core 2.

7Ghz Mac Pro full out on geekbench. I hit a score of 33k on GeekBench 3. 0 with 32GB RAM Quad-Channel DDR4. I coupled this with dual GTX 660 2GB for CUDA, and a 1000 Watt Power Supply. The system is rock solid, steady.

No driver issues (other than installing). Saw USB 3. 0 ports in Win 7 SP1 installer as well. Also, the board recognizes SSDs natively in the onboard RAID and will issue TRIM Commands to the SSDs in windows under RAID!! That’s a huge thing for people RAID’ing SSDs (I use 2x 256GB Crucial M4’s in RAID-0 for speed) ! Rocking!.

Bought one of these for machine learning tasks. One of the few Xeon motherboards to provide support for overclocking (all be it limited to turbo multipliers, BLK and RAM) via Supermicro’s Hyper-Speed/Hyper-Turbo modes.

Despite what the description says, these motherboards with bios revision 2. 0+ support E5-2600 v4 series Xeons (mine came with v2. 0 pre-installed). Bios v2. 0a (an upgrade on the Supermicro site) provides enhanced overclocking functionality.

There is also a bios bug the prevents the use of MSI-X interrupts and thus SR-VIO and Receive Side Scaling. Supermicro’s support is amazing though and resolved this issue for me with a beta bios update within 24hours of me contacting them.

Worth nothing that these boards will NOT boot headless or without a keyboard, as they do not have a built-in BMC and are designed for a workstation chassis with a discrete GPU.

My first Velocita, really liking the design for the phantom gaming series in general. The build quality is great, as expected from the ASRock brand. Having a 2. 5G LAN port for the first time, VERY noticeable when accessing my NAS.

Personally, I dont feel any difference with the Lightning Gaming Ports myself for the mouse and keyboard, but hey its there. Also, this Graphics Card Holder needs to be standard on every MB, its very simple and it just works.

I dont know why no one came up with this design until now, but I am not getting another board without this. Anyways, you just cant go wrong with ASRock boards.

I bought the Asrock z590 PG VELOCITA for the new 11th gen i7 11700k cpu and for room to put a crossfire gpu. The boards’ integrated peripherals bay and my Corsair H100i didn’t fit into Cooler Master n400.

The Bios is easy to maneuver and pick settings. Initially I didn’t want LEDs but they look nice Note: This review for ASRock review rebate program. Very happy with my purchase!.

The motherboard has a great aesthetic if you’re into a white build. The vrm and power delivery are adequate for both comet lake and rocket lake. It has an abundance of USB ports. It overclocks rocket lake 11700k to 5.

2 GHz on some cores and 5 GHz on all 8 cores very easily. Ran very stable and cool. But all is not rosy with this motherboard. The early bioses are buggy. It came with an early F2 bios which was bad for my memory kits in xmp mode, so make sure to update to f5.

Skip f3 and f4. The fatal flaw of this motherboard that ultimately led me to return it is broken thunderbolt4 hot plug. If you connect your thunderbolt device at boot time, it will start up. But if you unplug and replug it while the OS is running, it won’t start again until you power off and back on again.

Or if the OS goes to sleep and reawakens, your thunderbolt device will be in a nonfunctional zombie state (until you power off snd on again) because hot plug is broken as of the F5b bios. No combination of settings in the bios enables functional thunderbolt hotplug like how it works seamlessly on a Macintosh or even the z490 Vision D.

Gigabyte markets this as a creator motherboard, but if you’re a creator that relies on thunderbolt hotplug, look elsewhere. I contacted gigabyte tech support about the problem, and they never responded to me within the 15 day window of time that I had to return this to microcenter, even though their website says they will respond in 3-7 days, so their tech support is terrible.

So if you plan on purchasing this, please know that you’re paying full price to receive a motherboard with a broken feature. Having to restart the system for a thunderbolt device to power on and connect to the system is extremely inflexible and defeats the purpose of thunderbolt in the first place.

Maybe gigabyte will fix it with a future bios update, maybe they won’t. But please beware.

I ordered the motherboard from Mindfactory. de and everything went fine, including shipping. The motherboard looks very high quality. On the side where the back panel connectors are, the mainboard was a bit bent, but this is only minimal and I have often seen it on other motherboards.

Optics The motherboard looks very good, the black design is just right for me. When I bought it, I made sure that the design is very simple and that the lighting is kept very subtle. Technical aspects I cant use PCIe 4.

0 because I dont have an 11th generation CPU. If you have chosen the desired M. 2 slot, you also have to be careful which SATA are available and which you are not allowed to use. But everything is well described in the manual.

It offers integrated Wifi 6E which also attracted me to buy. It has sufficient connections. With MSI Click BIOS everything can be controlled very well. Installation An Intel i7-10700K with SSD Samsung 970 Evo Plus is built in, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB RAM, NZXT Kraken X73 RGB cooler, RTX 3060 Ti GPU and plugging in the cables went wonderfully.

The temperatures are very good and the installation was basically problem-free. Everything has been going very well since then. The motherboard has everything I need and a lot more. For me a clear buy recommendation!.

I got this board with an Intel i9 10th Gen processor to upgrade my studio PC since I heard from a PC tech MSI boards were very reliable. It’s my first MSI board, though, and I’ve only had it running for 3 weeks, so I can’t speak if it is more reliable than other boards.

My Gigabyte Ultra Durable lasted a few years before one of the LAN ports failed and after about 6 years, the audio output popped a lot, both failures I had not seen in other motherboards so soon in my decades of computer use.

I’d give another star for this MSI board if the install and documentation were easier. There was no print manual included so I had to find it on MSI’s site, though they did provide drivers and software on a DVD with the motherboard, which were not on their website for this motherboard at the time of install.

There is also no manual on the DVD either. This board was finicky with what memory slots the DRAMs (two 16GB DDR4 sticks) were installed in, unlike my old Gigabyte and other boards, but at least the BIOS warned me about that on boot up.

This MSI behaved strangely when Windows 10 powered off too. The board’s LED lights remained on and I couldn’t find any settings in the BIOS or manual that addressed that. Strangely, the PC and motherboard powered off completely as I wanted after a couple weeks and I didn’t do anything but try switching polarity on the power button and reset switches, using different power connectors from the new power supply, and uninstalled the Intel ME and other drivers, all of which didn’t do anything.

The software and driver install from the DVD worked seamlessly to install everything in one sitting, though, and easily allowed things to be not installed like Google and security stuff I don’t need.

A lot of boards I’ve used needed individual installs for drivers. The BIOS interface was harder to find things than I’m used to, because they separated things into easy and advanced views. The BIOS info had more useful status information, though, like CPU temp and such than other boards I’ve used.

Other than a longer install process and the odd LED lights staying on, the board has worked fine so far.

Solid mobo for a low budget/mid range build. Integrated I/o gives a nice finish – no messing with flimsy I/o shields. WiFi signal strong but have only used this as back-up to ethernet. The bundle price brought this in line with buying separately from other suppliers with added benefit of not having to spend 5 minutes installing the CPU and cooler myself.

Only downside of bundle being the CPU box was not provided (not an issue for me). CPU offers good processing speed. MSI mobo layout easy to read and build with. No second m. 2 screw provided if installing second SSD.

Delivery was prompt and in line with timescale AWD-IT provided. AWD-IT are quickly becoming my go to supplier. A company worth supporting!.

This is my second AsRock board, last build was a z87 Fatality, what a difference this board makes. I debated between buying the newer 11th gen Intel i5 but did not like any of the reviews coming out.

Since I do not overclock my boards the i5 10400f was perfect choice for me. Bios configuration is full featured to say the least. Personally I am only using the XMP profile option for the ram, fan configuration, nvme boot disk and RGB functions.

So, once again I state this board is future proof for 11th and maybe 12th gen Intel CPU’s. I will continue to buy and support AsRock boards for many years to come, price point and options compared to others makes them a clear winning choice.

Nice board for the money, my needs are simple. No TPM? Not a big issue with me, being a Linux user anyway.

I bought this board for use in a small form factor workstation/gaming build for my sister, a graphic designer. My draw to this particular board was driven by its aesthetic, Thunderbolt 4 compatibility, and the general marketing of Gigabyte’s “Vision” line towards digital creators.

It’s obvious on handling the board that not an inch was left to waste. Every available inch seems to be covered in surface-mount components, and it’s understandable that even with this density, a mini-ITX board has to make compromises.

However, I was disappointed to find that one of the compromises was the exclusion of a HD audio header. This means that the front panel audio jacks on this build had to go unused, except in the event we were to swap in a sound card instead of a GPU.

Speaking of GPUs, while the inclusion of Thunderbolt 4 as a video output is a great feature, it’s strange that the motherboard’s only display port serves as an input, leaving the board with Thunderbolt as its only native video output.

This won’t be a problem for most, who will probably install a GPU as the board designers must have intended, given the aforementioned Displayport input. It does further beg the quesiton, however, if installing a GPU is to be taken for granted, where does the sound card go to support front panel audio? The last and most significant issue with this board is the fan controller.

In a Mini-ITX build, cooling is one of the most significant obstacles to overcome. Flexibility and control are essential. In my build, the CPU heatsink fans serve double-duty as rear exhaust (see photo), and so being able to map their operation to both CPU, System, and GPU temperatures is an important feature which this board and its supporting software are missing.

As I have since learned, Gigabyte use a proprietary fan controller chip and do not publish its specs, making it exceedingly difficult (read: impossible) to use third-party software-based fan controllers.

The ultimate solution to this will be buying a third-party fan controller to remove fan control from the motherboard entirely, but at a significant and otherwise technologically unnecessary expense. As much as I otherwise like this board, these design flaws proved a real Achilles’ heal, and I regret this purchase.

Heres how to save your self hair loss and hrs of screaming at the Mobo. 1: If you get the CPU light or Mem Light or any other light on the mobo lit, prob just need to update firmware. I had CPU and Mem light no post no beeps.

D/L latest bios update and flashed, instantly resolved those issues. Be sure to read manual, you will need to rename the update file name, make sure psu has power but do not have power on to update bios.

Make sure when installing windows from USB you do not use the 3. 0usb port. Install will drive you crazy for drivers and you’ll be left stumped. Use 2. 0 ports. (don’t forget from ports are usb) Next headache is raid.

Be sure to set raid in bios but do not install more than one HD unti windows is fully installed. Be sure to use driver ” Version 3. 5. 0. 1092&3. 5. 0. 109 ” from asus website. 3. 6 version has known issue (per asus tech rep) When windows shows no hard drive to install to, click “load driver” and point to 3.

5 driver you copied to your thumb drive. (if installing 64bit OS, 64 bits raid driver may not show drive and you may have to use 32bit) After choosing 64bit driver, wait a few seconds and see if hard drive appears, it does not show up instantly after completing load driver.

If it doesn’t show after 15 seconds then use 32bit driver again wait 15 seconds HD should appear) After windows installs, install additional hard drives and setup raid in bios (ctrl+i). Should be good to go from there.

Don’t forget to format all your drives, especially SSD’s before trying to install windows. Auto Tune feature for me and others I see likes to hang. When you run it it will OC things very stable and restart pc.

At windows login the Autotune will reappear and give you a choice to do further test for more OC’ing. This is where it seems to hang if you do more testing. If this happens and the pc doesn’t restart with-in a mins or so, STOP it.

You HSF guys could fry your cpu. Other than that I think all else is business as normal.

Asus – I have never had a bad Asus board before and have installed several this year. Although this board didn’t really fail it was too erratic to use. Ram sticks were good but “C” bank didn’t want to read them.

This was a problem because the cooling tower covered the ram, making them difficult to get to. The second problem was that the driver disk included with the board kept wanting to install RAID drivers for Win XP even though I was running Win 7.

Hunted on disk and found driver that worked but didn’t work well. Checked Asus website and could not find a driver that would work with this board. (Asus’s website is great for advertisement but is not customer support friendly.

Asus, you need to redo this part of your website. ) Emailed Asus and received prompt response directing me to driver site. Downloaded and system would not accept driver. Went back to disk and found Intel 600/220 Controller that seemed to accept well and worked good for first day.

Then it fell out second day. As to LAN fall-out, not sure but wonder if it was trying to load drivers for Win XP? Newegg – Been buying from Newegg for years but this is the first time I have had to RMA a part.

Had a P6T7 WS Supercomputer board in it that went bad after 4+ years and was performing excellent until it blew. I’m not going to put the ASUS P9X79 LE back in it after this. Decided to go back with a ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition – Unbelievable performance so far (2-days)!.

6 months of 5 days weekly use, audio died, can’t get any audio anywhere on the mobo opticals or the front panel anymore. Just happened out of nowhere, no warning, no nothing. USB bypass works (shure digital microphone with a headphone jack gives me a plug for audio, bypasses Realtek etc.

). I don’t like having to pay extra (shipping costs) to ship a defective motherboard to ASUS. It’s like an equipment failure tax. If it’s defective, why do we as consumers have to pay more for the defective item? If companies had to pay all shipping costs for defective products, maybe that would be an incentive for them to design things better and with less chance of failure.

If I could find a different brand for LGA2011 motherboards with consistently good reviews, I would drop ASUS. This is my first board failure and my first ASUS board. Other boards I own are from gigabyte and MSI, both older (one is about 1.

5 years old, other about 2. 5 years old) and neither of them have failed. However, they’re not LGA2011.

I’m a video editor and was looking to make some upgrades to my system. Due to editing raw video codecs I decided to stick AMD for the blunt power of many cores; but I won’t be jumping to AM5 until the platforms matures a little first to avoid any instability issues.

I needed a motherboard that offered at least two extra PCIe slots each with 4x lanes or greater for my extra cards – which is surprisingly difficult to find. Plus some m. 2 slots for fast storage. Threadripper was beyond what I could afford.

This is one of the few AM4 motherboards that allows you to fully populate all of the M. 2 slots and PCIe slots. Many others that offer 4x M. 2 slots and extra PCIe slots won’t allow you to use them all at once due to the limitations of the chipset; such as populating all m.

2 slots will turn off a PCIe slot and so on, so you have to do some careful research into the what can and cannot be used at the same time. So while this board doesn’t offer 4x M. 2 slots, it does mean that all 3x of them can be used at the same time as all the PCIe slots.

Incase you’re curious the board has been populated with a graphics card, Blackmagic Decklink 4k Monitor Card, a 10Gbe ethernet card, NVMe boot drive, NVMe scratch disk, and SATA SSD file storage. I’m hoping that someday someone will make a motherboard with heaps of bifurcated PCIe expansion to give users like me more expandability without the need to jump up to threadripper; but until then this will fit my requirements perfectly.

USB 2. 0 has been a bit flaky as Sebastian R’s review notes though I only had problems at startup, a newer BIOS may be why we had a different experience. A google did confirm it as an issue but I followed advice I found to disable ErP and this appeared to fix it.

I am not 100% that this is a gigabyte issue. It is pretty rough though that USB should misbehave and my rating has the board down a whole star over it. There have been a lot of recent bios updates (late 2021) including AGESA stuff.

I only have USB issues now with coming out of sleep mode and that is with ERP on (I loaded optimsed defaults at one point). I will turn it off again and expect it will fix the sleep mode USB problem occurring too.

DDR support seems OK, I could not get the rated 3600 out of my kit without angrying up the voltage past XMP (and decided against it) but the RAM is certifed as being for Intel (despite being on the ERP) so no worries there either.

I did notice the USB problem at DDR3600 on startup again too. Weird. Love the optical audio out! Flashing the bios to support the 5700G with a bare (no RAM or CPU) motherboard worked well. Super cool feature.

This Motherboard is an absolutely fantastic bit of kit. I’ve built a couple of systems using this board and it’s by far one of the most stable and reliable boards I’ve personally ever used. There were a couple of minor teething issues to begin with (as there usually are when any new platform releases), particularly with the onboard audio and LAN, but these soon got ironed out once the BIOS had time to ‘mature’.

From a technical standpoint the board is absolutely superb as it just oozes quality and comes packed full of awesome features. The Wi-Fi in particular is incredibly good (one of the most reliable I’ve used in fact), and it comes with a whopping 13 rear USB ports (a nice mix of USB 2.

0, 3. 2 Gen 1 and 2, and one Type C). The aesthetic of the board is also very good, one of Gigabyte’s nicer looking boards in my opinion. It’s a nice blend of matte black and gun metal which will suit most builds, and there’s even a teeny bit of RGB thrown into the mix if you’re into that.

The only negative point I can think of about this board is the fact that there’s no RGB Fusion option in the BIOS. It would be good to be able to control the RGB from the BIOS as opposed to Gigabyte’s RGB Fusion software, which can be a bit temperamental sometimes.

Overall, I would highly recommend grabbing one of these if your looking to put a stable and reliable system together that has most, if not all the bells and whistles you will need. A big shout out to Scan as well for their absolutely top notch service as always.

As you can see in the other reviews, the simplicity of this board is what makes this a great product. Easy to build on, plenty of headers, and aesthetically satisfying (minus the RGB). Since I like my PC flashy the RGB on this board is very miniscule.

If you’re looking for something bright this board is not for you. Now the BIOS is where I have to shed one star off this review. The settings where you adjust fan speed is designed for advanced PC users.

For casual users like myself this was a bit tricky. Other boards I dealt with makes this function a lot simpler, and easy to customize. In terms of overclocking, I can’t comment on that since that is something I do not do.

I would still highly recommend this board due to the price and as mentioned above the build simplicity,.

So I have not even got this motherboard working. I have a Ryzen 5600G processor, 32 gb of regulars 3200 g-skill ram, a msi 3070 ti and a MSI nvme drive. All of which is moot, because I can’t update the bios to F13 which includes the 5600G CPUs.

I can’t do a regular qflash in the bios because I can’t load the bios, I can’t use qflash plus because it seems to fail every time. I got this motherboard in a shuffle and I waited till I could afford a GPU and CPU and ram,.

Around Christmas it finally happened. But now the motherboard is basically dead to me. I have been told I need an older CPU to boot with so I can use the regular bios flash tools so my CPU will work.

I don’t have the money or access to old Ryzen CPUs, I’m just frustrated,. This should not be this difficult, and with supply shortages and long waits, shuffle bundle deals makes being able to return stuff nearly impossible.

I’m stuck with a board I basically can’t use. Tired of trying.
