20 Best Lego Sets Under 50 (2023 Updated)

As a crane enthusiast, I find this model highly outstanding in reproducing the impression of the original: shape, proportions, character. Truly a breakthrough in the City series. Since I built it, I can’t stop looking at it.

Meanwhile, I wish it could have spent just a few more hours in the planning phase, to smoothen a few details: – The lifting capacity is hardly more than symbolic. Under any meaningful load, the thing – through minuscule distortions throughout several components – gives in and just flattens out, while a feeling of imminent breakage threatens.

The main culprit in this regard seems to be a joining element – applied only on one side, asymmetrically – between the boom and its actuator cylinder. – There is no guide to align the lifting cable as it leaves the winch, and as a result, in the crane’s road configuration (while driving between job sites), the cable just awkwardly lays across the top of the boom, eventually ending up deviating to one side.

Adding some simple guide near the winch-end of the boom could have sorted this out. – A single additional pin could have improved the joining of the lifting cable with the hook block. – The outriggers (the extendable side stabilizators), while being brilliantly engineered and are fully capable of holding the weight of the entire structure, could have enjoyed massively increased authenticity if weight spreader plates would have been supplied for them.

– The shape and positioning of the counterweight is quite satisfactory; if only one or two additional stackable counterweight blocks were designed / included, that really could have been the bees’ knees.

Bonus info: when the operators occupy the front cabin, they each need an additional seat cushion, so that their arms have sufficient room to fit in the cabin. These seat cushions are included in the set, but appear to be missing from the building instructions; luckily it’s quite self-evident to figure out from the leftover pieces.

Initially I had chosen the Lego helicopter but was informed by family member that my great nephew already had that one! Fortunately his mother suggested the crane. Although I wondered if the age on box might indicate technical problems: on the contrary it went down very well! Lego is one of his favourite toys and I am always happy to purchase toys from JL because there is always a good selection of ‘old- fashioned’ toys together with the very latest trend.

I remember buying the Lego toy box for one of my granddaughters and it always makes me smile when I see it in their playroom. Satisfaction all round!.

Our 4 year old saw this and fell in love. We bought it as a special surprise and build it with him. He is obsessed with it. The crane actually works and allows him to hook up and pull things around and lift them with the boom.

It’s not a build it and put it on the shelf LEGO, it’s a play non-stop LEGO.

It is great for ages 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10. Any kid younger than 6 might need some assistance. This is so organized (when you finish it of course). I love how detailed LEGO sets are. There are so many accessories like popsicles, cones, and 3 ice cream flavors(vanilla, strawberry and, chocolate).

It was just like the real thing. For a con I’d say (this doesn’t apply to this set), but all the LEGO sets, the prices have gone too high up. Like $75 for a 100 piece set. Overall this is a great product.

I bought this on black friday sale for $10–a steal. it was a gift for my 8 year old neighbor and it was just the right mix of challenge and success. It was a very good level of lego for him and i enjoyed watching him put it together.

It has two people, skate board and a dog. The detail on the truck is excellent and is fun to play with after it is built. Solid design, nothing flimsy. And it has lots of ice cream to go on the two cones.

I think the cone shape has been used before as a light in another kit, so it should not be a huge challenge to replace lost ones. It could easily be changed up to be a food truck or a many other mobile services.

The little lego dollar bill was a fun touch. Highly recommend.

Wow when my son saw this he was so excited what do kids love better than lego ICE CREAM! The two combined together was the quietest time I have experienced in the last 8 years! The concentration that went into making his truck which he did all buy himself! Very easy good instructions.

They love acting out trips to the grocery store, and role playing with the characters. There are so many great pieces in this set. I love that there is a child in a wheelchair too. My son has connected this set to his other Lego City town sets with the street and road plates.

It was fun and easy to put together. It is a fun way to teach the kids how to grocery shop, from picking groceries to paying for them.

The bulk brick boxes are a great place to being a Lego collection and they encourage imaginative builds since they are typically “theme” independent and have limited instructions (think more idea-book style rather than blueprint).

We use the bulk boxes in our homeschool coop Lego classes and give the kids “challenges” to strengthen their problem-solving skills as well as their creativity. We incorporate language arts/story telling and active listening by having a show-and-tell style wrap up at the end of the period.

We haven’t had any complaints yet. ;).

I got the girl set of these for my daughter on black Friday one year. One of the best things I’ve bought for her. She still plays with them almost everyday. She had fun following the instructions to create what the set was then took them apart and loves to create new things.

She’s received other sets since then but the only one that came in this neat tub is this set. She now builds new sets then adds them all to her “collection” in the big tub. Nice way to store them.

This is by far one of the best value sets Lego has ever created. If someone asked what the price was I would assume £24. 99-£29. 99, not the bargain price of £14. 99. In the box you will find 3 bags, 3 instruction manuals and a sticker sheet.

Bag 1 is the red tow truck which I was pleasantly surprised by the cool features and size plus the cool black police motorcycle. Bag 2 and 3 includes the police transporter with its simple but effective mechanism which allows the jail cell to pop off.

It also includes an exhaust pipe pointing upwards which isn’t very clear in the photos. Back to the tow truck, it has a clip to attach on the jail cell so after it explodes it can be towed. The wheel axles are extremely rare due to the red colour ( usually grey or black.

) This set is a great add-on to any city police set, especially 60241-46. I bought it with 60244 ( helicopter transport) which was also better that expected. I am really pleased with the 4 minifigures, of them being from the TV series, Lego City Adventures.

The Clara The Criminal figure is really interesting because she has a very rare helmet. The Duke Detain minifigure is great but I don’t really have much to say as he is very common. The Snake Rattler minifigure is a great copy of the TV character.

The police lady is perfect for the driver as she is a double expression character, ( one being happy and the other being scared. ) Both the head and hair\ hat are extremely rare. This is a great set and I strongly recommend as a gift for an aspiring police officer and or Lego lover, Happy building!.

I am validating the poor experience of others who have bought/built this product as well as other Lego sets that use similarly designed helicopters. I bought it for my 6 yr old grandson who expected to see the helicopter fly/hover at least a short distance.

While overall product build quality is excellent, it became clear the helicopter was unable to even lift off of its own accord, let alone fly, from the launch device. On further investigation, it was evident that the downdraught/lift force provided by the rotating rotor was inadequate to overcome the weight of the helicopter.

The rotor, when not fitted to the helicopter, was easily able to lift off and stay airborne for several seconds after launching with the launch device. The poor experience of this product has now reduced my expectations for similar products like #60260 which have now been removed from my wish list.

It is disappointing the Lego designers did not pay more careful attention to this functional aspect the product to give a positive play experience. The rotor lift force and total helicopter weight must be readjusted/redesigned to give a net positive lift force.

Only then can Lego live up to customer expectations for producing innovative functional products for a positive play experience.

My nephew was really happy with this gift. I bought it for him to build whilst on a long flight. He really enjoys all Lego and loved building this. It is very small but very compact and, as usual, easy to follow instructions.

this product is good for child that respond to challenges, my six year old grandson loves it. it did’nt take him long to concord it. my two year old grandson likes it also, but ofcourse he needs so assistance and help due to the small part.

the toy is very good for age appropriate children.

My daughter loves Lego and this kit did not disappoint. At first glance the box is quite big with nice bright colours that catch the eye, we were very excited to open it and start building. The kit comes with clear, easy step by step instructions that me and my daughter could follow.

Each pack is clearly labelled making the building process easier. It took us a weekend to complete and it was lovely spending quality time together on a project. The bricks are so well made, they slot together effortlessly and the bright bold colours are great.

When built it stands quite high, we were impressed how big the Ferris wheel is, my daughter enjoyed the smaller add on models too and it made the set more enjoyable for her creative mind to play. My daughter loves to display her Lego and this sits beautifully with the rest, it’s sturdy enough to be played with over and over and she’s had hours of fun so far.

Overall I’m extremely happy with this and would highly recommend.

This set is fantastic, the ferris wheel being its main attraction, with working crank parts which was great surprise to have the wheel completely turn. The instructions as always from the lego brand are easy to follow and clear all the way.

Building this was exciting at each step seeing it come to life. Lego people fit too! And can take them on a wheel experience! If you want to expand your builds then this set also changes into a couple other attractions but as well enjoy the wheel so much we did not swap it up.

So happy with this and great fun had by all.

My son is a big fan of ferris wheels so i felt that this would be ideal. We had previously tried to build a different ferris wheel and it didnt end successfully so was really happy yo be able to try this, The instructions were clear and big enough to read, it still took a while to build but the pieces were managable and easy to put together.

Once built my son had fun playing with it and then took apart to try out the other builds. On the surface this seemed quite expensive but the quality of the pieces, instructions and builds makes this superior to anything else.

The new City sets, unfortunately, follow the same failings that the recent Town Square set had — not enough substance for the value. This set has no buildings — just narrow facades (that seem to get narrower and narrower each year).

There is little play value with something this superficial. The shops here don’t even add up to a small building we might pay $49. 94 CDN for (thinking #31105). It’s at best half of that. bringing the value in at about $25.

Then we have two $12-$15 vehicles included. Each vehicle on its own would come with one Minifigure, and a $49. 95 building would likely come with two Minifigures. That leaves us with two extra Minifigures valued at $4-$5 each sold on their own.

Add it all together and it’s about $65 in value. So there is $34. 99 in excess value which I guess are going towards the new street baseplates which are getting mixed reactions.

We received the Lego City shopping street complimentary for testing purposes. This was a perfect for my two daughters ages 6 and 10 to share and have some bonding time. They don’t enjoy the same things due to the gap in age but this was great for them to do together.

The booklet is easy for both to follow in order to make the build. My 6 year old enjoyed making the vehicles the most and loves all the lego people. The 10 year old liked putting together the shops. Her favorite is the pretzel cafe.

There is also a bike shop and outdoor fitness area. We all think the glow in the dark pieces for the street lamps is supper cool. So many little attentions to detail in all the pieces! I love that this connects to other sets.

We look forward to finding other cities to build and attach.

My son(and myself) always enjoy building lego sets together. This set added to the sets we’ve built together. It came with a lot of pieces, and many small ones. The directions are straightforward and easy to follow along with.

For an adult, this set is mildly challenging. It was a bit more of a challenge for my 9 year old son to put together, but overall he had a blast doing it. This set comes with multiple minifigures and two vehicles to build.

There are a couple small buildings that populate the street. The street panel is good quality and even includes a crosswalk design. I do wish the buildings were bigger, but other than that, the set is great.

As always, lego puts out good quality products and this one didn’t disappoint. I look forward to getting more sets to add the the collection.

A great product which my son enjoyed building. A challenge for young minds which stokes their scientific interest. Highly recommend.

I got suckered by Lego this year into their whole “City Space” sets. They are below average at best. I’m just glad I got them before the price increase. Buy on sale

TL;DR review part: hey, it’s Lego, you can NEVER go wrong with that ! Normal review part : it’s a Creator set, where imagination and CREATIVITY play a big role. With this kit you can build a great looking toy store, a flower shop with a bird nest on top or a nice cupcake shop with terrasse and satellite internet access, great when you want to update your Facebook status.

Extremely fun to build with lots of cool little designs. Infinite replay value, and most important infinite RE-build value ! Brick clutch is the legendary Lego-style, and there is no pieces missing. Buy this set, along with it’s bigger brother, the Pet Shop and Cafe (#31097) for a great city landscape.

This is absolutely my favourite build I’ve done in a long time and the set is made even better considering the price. For $40 USD, you get a very dense building that has plenty of detail, the cute little ride and two minifigs.

The build is a nice one to relax with, nothing extremely difficult but satisfying to build. There are a few fiddly pieces such as above the second story windows that can be knocked off easily, but otherwise I think its a pretty solid build once assembled.

If you want a good looking dense building but aren’t ready to spend the money on a modular, this is a really fun set. I only built the toy shop, however the other options for the build look very intriguing.

However, I don’t know if I’ll build them as the toy shop is just too cute. I think it is once that looks better in person once built than in the picture on the box.

My grandson was super excited when he opened the present. He loves the little eggs. Everyone at Mastermind toys is really helpful and wrap the gifts free of charge

Purchased for my 5 year old grandson. He’s had Lego from an early age and loves making up the various cars boats planes etc. This adds to his growing collection.

My kid has almost every lego set ever made but this one stands out to the rest. My son has been playing with this toy for 3 hours

I’m writing on behalf of my son who built this set. He’s received a bunch of Lego sets lately and said this one is his favorite. The suspension is cool and can make it up pretty uneven surfaces, the burger on top is super cool because it’s so big and the retracting stairs are very innovative.

Thanks so much Lego for coming out with something fun AND functional. The only small thing is that it was a touch expensive based on the total number of pieces. Anyways, tons of entertainment value. Hoping more of these will be available in the Creator family so they can be played and displayed as a set.

This is my first Lego set I’ve bought in years and wanted to start my collection with. I like the choice of colours and design. For its price, it isn’t as practical as other sets I’ve seen for the same price.

You can have the driver enter and exit the truck through the roof, push the vehicle, and that’s it. With its lack of props, it’s more suitable for display than playing with. It’s also more suitable for a Lego beginner than a more experienced fan.

If you want to introduce someone to lego, I suggest looking for a more functional set to leave a better impression.

Who has ever heard of a monster burger truck? I haven’t, but now I kind of wish the real thing existed! This set is unique, creative, detailed, and had a couple of clever features. It has a really slick hide-away staircase and inventive suspension.

The interior is detailed and I like that it comes with table, chairs, a burger, dog, and two minifigs to complete the scene. The monster burger truck is the main and best build, but alternate builds are also enjoyable, especially the tractor pull.

Again, unique and not likely to be seen again, so get yours!.

Lego was such a big part of my childhood and now it is a big part of my son’s play time. Upon receiving then in the mail he opened them up with happiness and proceeded to build his town. The plates are a great addition to any Lego set and allow children to bring together other Lego products into a larger play set.

This is a must have for any child.

I bought this for my great grand son for his 7th birthday. He absolutely loved it and immediately took it to his room and commenced following the instructions and constructing it. His granddad and I were impressed – naturally!.

Wow, what a great wee set. Good base build with plenty of little trinkets and bits and pieces to allow for a goo addition or centre piece to a scene. Enjoy the fact that they put a regular trailer hitch on the red truck so it can tow other trailers, that I thought was a good plus.

I usually collect larger sets (~500-1500 pcs. , mostly vehicles) but once in a while I stumble upon a smaller one that simply cannot be ignored. This happens to be one such case with the strong ’80s vibe that’s radiating from the cover of its box.

A very nice sports car indeed, accentuated by the choice of color: azure blue which is a relatively uncommon shade. It’s the perfect size for any LEGO city and uses quite a few interesting elements despite being so tiny.

It also has really nice proportions and displays quite well. My only minor gripe is with the small gaps behind the rear wheel arches but other than that it’s nearly perfect. I especially like the adjustable rear spoiler and the way it still looks great as a convertible by removing the roof piece.

This is a slick toy car, one suited for any Lego city. I was also grateful that the driver has a smug look on his face. This way I can have a speeding driver for my police patrol to chase. Still, be careful when you try to play with it.

Only two studs hold the roof, so it can pop off easily. It is fun to play with, but do not be surprised if a child will constantly turn it into a convertible.

Bought two different lego sets as Christmas gifts and then decided to get one for myself. This set is my second one. It looks like fun and hoping my 5 year old will get into Legos too. He loves Rocket League and this looks like a car he would have on that game.

I bought this for me to build and maybe display, still debating on maybe letting my son play with it.

The caravan and pick-up is easy to put together and has some fun features inside. I added lights, which look really effective.

The LEGO was packed really well, there was no damage to the box what so ever. It came in reasonable time taking inconsideration covid-19. I have one happy little boy here. Thank you

I collect and enjoy the Lego modular buildings. The Corner Garage set is very nice and comes with a well designed tow truck. However, there is no car to tow, and no car to work on in the garage. The Blue Fury Hot Rod is a cool car and comes with two minifigures.

Best of all, the bumper on the front of the Blue Fury makes a perfect hook point for towing behind the Corner Garage tow truck. As a stand-alone model the Blue Fury is a lot of fun. And making the Blue Fury a permanent addition to your Lego Corner Garage is a winning combination.

Although not officially a speed champions set, that is where it belongs. A nice build and great looking car.

Can not go wrong with Legos – a fun family activity.

I received this brand new and sealed in it’s original box. It was processed and arrived quickly. We get these for my four year old son who loves to follow the instructions and build. He could build a lot of what comes in the box, but still needs some help from dad.

I love that play time isn’t over when they’re done building.

I’ve been looking forward to this set ever since the 2022 sets were announced in early December 2021 and this is amazing!!!! Simple but fun build, really love the ice cream minifigures, the ice cream truck looks incredible, the police car has a slick design with the cool play feature of dropping the road spikes.

The launcher on the truck fires surprisingly good. Has 9 stickers but not terrible to place, maybe the license plates will be a bit tricky. Back of the truck fits accessories and one ice cream minifigure, you can place the second one neatly in the front.

Pulling the money tank from the ATM with the chain is very easy. Over an amazing set for display or to add along to your city!.

The Lego ice cream police chase set is a firm hit for my 5 year old. He loves Lego and assembling things and then with this kit it’s hours of fun playing cops and robbers with the vehicles – highly recommend.

I got it for my son’s birthday. He saw it online and begged me for it. You can’t go wrong with Legos. It keeps them busy for hours and it’s better than being on video games.
