Best Learn To Read Books (2024 Updated)

I have an early reader, getting stuck on phonetic exceptions and I was hoping this would help (at least help me to guide them). This is a systematic guide using early childhood principles of repetition, and repetition doesn’t work for many neurodiverse learners, and no gifted learners.

It’d be great for tiger parents wanting their kids with zero phonemic awareness to start school ahead of the pack, or kids with special learning needs who need to take a step back with lots of simple repetition.

I fell asleep on the first page, and if my child had seen it they would have looked at me like I had 2 heads and wouldn’t have finish half of the first lesson.

My dad taught my sister and I with this book (college math and highschool math proff. ) and we were reading above a college level by 7th grade. My dad is your typical boomer, so electronics was never part of our childhood, and they were used as an incentive.

He swears by this book and would until the day he died. He taught in an underprivileged school district, and had a 12th grade student who could not read. My dad used this book and at the end of the student’s 12th grade year, they could read.

We gift this at every baby shower, he recommends this to strangers on the streets, and family.

Over the past 25 years we have been teaching our kids to read using this book. The eldest learned quickly in K before we moved. First grade, and a poor teacher/district set her back to not being able to read.

We concluded it was our fault for allowing others to control our children’s education. We decided to homeschool. When we founds this reading book, it was almost instantly helpful. She took to it rapidly sometimes taking 2-3 lessons a day.

By the end of that summer after 1st grade she had regained all her lost reading skills and was now easily surpassing children in the neighborhood in 2nd, 3rd and even 4th grade. Fast forward 20 years and we are still using the same, ragged book, and it is still effective.

Four other children have learned to read using it. Each retained and grew in reading skills well beyond equivalent public school peer grade level all their childhood and even the 12year old reads above college grad level.

We are now using this same book to teach our two youngest children. The 7 year old reads better than public school kids 2 years older than he is and the 5 year old is becoming very impressed with his ability to read words where he once just saw random letters.

Every day is a new discovery for him and his brother now just sits and reads actual books, without pictures, as often as he reads those with. To those advocating that this is not “advanced” and suggesting other programs for older children.

I say they are wrong. Each child will be ready to read and to learn to read at a different time. But, think about it, if the child has trouble reading “advanced” is NOT what you want to throw at him or her.

This set of lessons teaches the child to use one of the greatest advantages the human brain has, pattern recognition. The child learns to recognize distinct patterns in the highly variable English language.

It uses a slightly modified written symbolic representation of those sound patterns to make them easier to recognize and learn. It then moves the child, once the patterns are learned through a logically simplified process of normalizing those new pattern recognition skills so that they can then read unmodified text with the same confidence and accuracy as they could the symbolic text.

It’s a really ingenious method that has worked for and continues to work for all seven of our children, each with distinctly differing personalities and learning types. The older (now adult) children are already fighting over who gets the book for their kids.

We plan to buy a copy of this same book for each of them.

Started with my 3 1/2 year old son – he loved it and picked it up very fast. It’s really easy to follow as a parent and the dvd is such a fun learning aid. Now at 4 he’s already reading and we’re only on level 1.

We have a 3 year old who’s been asking to read. Started him on HOP and it’s working great. Thanks HOP! You changed our lives for generations! (Or it might. We will find out in a few generations )

So far, so good; we just received it and started on it. I am uncertain if our son is dyslexic but since local school district kicked him out because they determined “he is autistic”, I am totally on my own to determine how to educate our disabled child.

So I’ll give this a chance.

I have used this series of books to improve our kids reading. The books use the rote method of teaching with some phonics. They are staged very well and as the kids move through the levels you can see their reading ability improving dramatically.

Also the stories are simple and the kids really like them.

I love it cuz my son is five years older and has disability. But he loves to read and look at pictures. It’s great way start get your kids to read and sound out words. ❤️ wish it was cheaper cuz there more other too buy too I love to  encourage my son to read.

No matter what if he heard of hearing and try so hard to say words he still will sign language it too.

Our youngest who has been struggling a little with reading loves them. The pictures are clear, the words sequential and although the stories are a great length. They are long enough for learning but short enough to keep her interested.

She shares her reading with all the grown ups around her, brings them in the car, reads them to us in bed early in the morning and even wanted to read them in the bath!! It has had an impact on her reading in school too and she is getting on much better now.

I have a copy of this children’s Bible at home, which I have been using in my 4 and 5 year old Sunday School class for several years. It’s easy for the little ones to understand, and the pictures hold their attention.

Our 6 year old granddaughter LOVES to have me read her bedtime stories from it when she comes over to visit on the weekends. She told me she wanted one just like it to have at her house, so that is why I ordered this one for her.

The pictures capture her interest, and although she already knows many of the Bible stories, she enjoys hearing them again and again. She’s learning to read now, and it won’t be long until she’s reading the stories herself! We’re all so blessed!.

I bought as the first Bible for my 5 yr old daughter and she can’t get enough of it. She begs to read it everyday before bed, and often through out the day. Beautiful stories from the Bible written for the little ones to understand.

Just be ready to answer tons of questions from them :).

My 4-year-old and 2-year-old girls love this. The pictures are great and engaging. The stories are easy to understand, and the right content is left out (e.g. Joseph and Potiphar’s wife).

I highly recommend reading the book instructions entirely before starting the lessons. I will give you a better understanding on how to instruct as it take you through the lessons with the pupil. I am not a teacher, reading this book and following the lesson plans really worked for me with my grand daughter who just turned three in May.

The English language is complicated, but this book breaks it down so you may help your new reader.

We used Alpha-Phonics to teach all 11 of our children to read. If you follow the program laid out in the book, you can have fluent readers by the age of five.

I am familiar with developing early reading skills and this product was very average. The books were very small and quite dull looking and for the money, poor value. The reading books did not have enough structure nor development of skills and therefore were not as engaging for the little ones as I had hoped.

I am surprised that booktopia could offer me so little insight into what I was buying for educational purposes. I am reluctant to choose such content from this source going forward. I did read the reviews available.

the books are fantastic and very easy for little hands, the pictures are helpful for my 5-year-old to pick up cues, guess what the story is about and spell out the letters sounds to try and read. absolutely love these and couldn’t recommend them enough.

the books are interesting which adds to the love of learning. Have also purchased level B, C, and D. Vey happy, highly recommend.

I purchased this set because my 6 year had trouble with her reading. So I did some research about what should I do to help her. Then I came across this book set on google and immediately I purchased it.

This set is awesome! It has 25 books in it with pictures to encourage my daughter to read and it also has a guide for parents to help their kids to improve their kids reading. My daughter loves this set and her reading has been improved and she’s now more confident in her reading.

We have a ton of different books for my 5 year old daughter. Of all the books she has, she has learned to read these little readers so quickly and them with so much confidence. Will be purchasing other levels soon.

I have a four year old and we started the Littke a Reader series and glad we did. He’s never been thrilled About reader despite how interesting or fun I try and make it. These books are great for beginners.

A lot of sight words, rhyming, pictures go along with stories/words so they can put two And two together to fill in the word they may not know or sound out AND THEY ARE SHORT reads. Saves pre-schooler from crying and moms sanity.

I ordered these to use as reading books for my twins (age 5) whilst the schools are closed. A good range. They cover different abilities and the kids are loving them. My daughter especially likes the earlier books which are shared reading for parent and child.

The later ones are ideal for my son who is a more confident reader.

Perfect condition, very useful for helping our little one get to grips with reading. Engaging little stories, just long enough and just short enough, building a good progression of difficulty for the parts the child reads themselves from the starting books upwards.

Very happy with the investment, and at over 160quid less than the supposed retail price, really can’t complain!.

My First Reading Library is a super collection of engaging stories with bright and colourful illustrations which appeal to children. There is a logical progression of phonics and sight words through the books helping children to improve their reading skills.

This book is great! Teaches kids about mixing colours with no mess and the way it’s written is perfect for an interactive reading experience. Cant recommend this highly enough. I’ve recently bought this for baby shower gifts and my 2 year old nephew.

This author is great for kids aged 2-5. This particular title is fun for littles learning about colors or for those who already know the combinations but want to take it to the level of actually mixing.

If that’s the case, I like to give finger paints along with the book as a gift so that they can actually try things out for themselves. If you prefer the no-mess route, the book on its own gives the reader the opportunity to “mix” colors and see the result.

I bought this as my three year olds loved ‘Press Here’ by the same author. They responded just as excitedly and told me it was ‘magic’. It’s very entertaining and a fun way to teach secondary colours and colour mixing.

Perfect present for 3-5 year olds.

My son love theese books. He was struggling to read, but because the pictures are relatable to the words he is able to figure out the difficult words or atleast try. It helps with his sight words as well and because her feels like he is doing well he now wants to read them all the time and attempt to read other books.

This is 25 books with roughly 7 pages in each. The words are very repetitive which helps them to memorize words. I would recommend along with a few eight words flash cards.

Excellent! My 4 year old loves doing these books and activity book with me. Buy them when target does a B2G1 free promo and the value is well worth it.

With the world in quarantine because of corona virus I ordered these for my daughter. She’s doing great with them. Her teachers ended up posting videos of similar books for class work but these are nice to have in person to sit and read to get off the computer.

Students spend one week on each set of words and concepts. Probably a better second half of Kindergarten book unless your child is already reading somewhat independently. Would be great for summer review.

I bought this for my 6 year old to add to his reading curriculum for Kindergarten. He loves it and is excited to do the worksheets every day. I really like how easy it is to use.

I purchased this book to help my grandson get ahead of the game. It’s definitely working!! He hadn’t been excited about reading prior to receiving this workbook. That attitude has flipped 180 degrees and he’s now anxious to get to the “next page” to see what fun he can have learning new words.

His parents or I initially worked with him on one page a day. He’s still limited to one page per day, but he’s now to the point where he can do most of the pages on his own with minimal help from an adult.

This book was really well done. Cute and colorful pictures. The pages are thick and easy to turn. The book is easy to wipe off if the kiddos have a spill. Also it’s a good size for little ones to carry around.

The book does well to explain to younger kids just starting out on learning bible stories but I do wish that it were a little longer. My kids have asked me to read it over and over. In fact, we loved it so much that I bought it again for my second daughter and she loves having her very own.

My baby’s favorite Bible. She picks this one up a lot and knows where baby Jesus is, animals are, etc. We’ve read through it countless times. Has some of the main stories like creation, Noah, David, Daniel, and then Jesus.

Ends with Jesus loving all the little children- no death on the cross, but we can talk about that when she gets a little older. 🙂 She has another more comprehensive Bible anyway that covers that. Very worth the value.

Good size, great board book pages, and nice outside cover.

This is a great little book. I started telling story’s to my 4 year old about 6 months ago. The story’s in this book are short but very helpful and accurate. The person that pull the story’s out of the bible for this book, they were able to help his little mind the grasp the true story of our creation,major events from the bible as well as Jesus, the love of the Father, and the sacrifice he made for all of us.

My son loves it and that makes my heart very happy.

Good variety of short stories with clear text and colour pictures. Not the highest quality of stories ever but perfect for young readers developing confidence and fluency. And for £25 for 30 books, can’t go wrong!.

Books are great quality. My little girl loves them! You won’t be disappointed by them. Inspires confidence in my young reader.

I bought these for my 5 year old. She loved the stories and great bedtime reading. Most are funny stories which engaged her and allowed her to join in. Would recommend.

A wonderful book allowing the readers to have fun while teaching young children to follow directions. I purchased this book from a school book fair one year not realizing how much enjoyment my family would have reading this book.

I have never seen my grand children laugh so hard as we sat around the table and enjoyed following the directions inside this book. I can still “see” the reactions the younger ones had when they turned the pages to find out what the result of following the directions given to them revealed.

I recommend this book for pure fun and for teaching younger children how to follow directions without teaching them to follow directions. We love to read books and learn something new. This book provided a fun and interactive way to learn the concept of following directions every child needs to learn to follow for everyday life to ready them for their school journey.

It has been loaned to others to enjoy as well. We still read this book today after five years receiving the same teary eyes laughs we had from the first reading adventure.

This book is enchanting. When I read it, I was delighted by the clever device of the book, and enjoyed the interactive nature of it. But this was nothing compared to the reward of reading it with my grandson.

He had so much surprise and joy when we turned each page! (The book asks the reader, for example to shake the book. Then, when you turn the page, the colored dots that had been neatly in a row are “all shook up” on the next page.

) For me this was clever, for my grandson, it was MAGIC. He’s a rambunctious child, Santa had brought transformers and trains. But he asked to read the book with me more than once, and then requested it from his dad at bedtime.

It was a HIT!.

This book is absolutely perfect for early learners. It is great for receptive language skills and learning simple directions (as well as counting, colors, etc). It also is good for teaching cause and effect.

For example, tap the dot 5 times, and then when you flip the page there is 5 times the number of dots. Really just a great interactive teaching book.

This set is the natural progression from the Bob Books Set 1, and a great one at that. My son loves that he can read a “whole book” (each set comes with 12 small books inside). And we both enjoy discussing the questions/topics from the back cover of each book – his answers let me know that he was not only reading the words on the page but comprehending what the characters have accomplished within the realm of each book.

I have never seen my son beam with such pride over an accomplishment before – saying “The End” at the end of each book elicits a broad smile and an assured look. Mostly, I love that each book builds from the last with similar, but different, sounds and a few new “site” words that must be memorized for each – so he uses a combination of phonics (sounding the words out) and just plain word memory (for words like “the” and “was” that don’t sound like they are spelled).

These books have been the best investment yet. Great value for all that you get.

Payment and transaction could not have been easier. The books arived quicker than expected. I love all of the Bob Books collections. My 5 year old son was struggling with beginner reading books and these have made all of the difference in the world.

They are repeative with subtle introductions to new words and letter sounds. Most of the words are 3-4 letters so they are easy to sound out. After gaining confidence with this series he’s now moved on to the next set.

Our child had no interest in learning how to read until we discovered BOB Books. He flew through set 1 and couldn’t wait until set 2 arrived. In just 2 weeks time, he’s reading better than I ever imagined.

We couldn’t be more pleased. What a great way to build your child’s confidence with reading! WalMart had the best price. We ordered all sets available at WalMart (all except set 3). All of the boxes have come a little crushed, but the books are fine.

Our little granddaughter started Kindergarten and was doing really well with learning to read. Then the virus struck and it was the end of school for months, at a vital time in her education. The school was providing work but she needed more.

She was flying through it and we didn’t want to slow her progress. We bought another series of beginner readers, up to level three and then discovered these beautiful little books at just the right level.

So, as she returns to school, her reading has improved dramatically. We will keep supplementing her school books with additional little readers, until she is happily picking up whatever she wants to, and reading.

I’m going on to purchase the whole set! If your little one knows the alphabet and is working on letter sounds they will be able to read these books!.

Fast forward to our first week with this set and we are already onto the second book! These books are great for building confidence in early readers and helping them to sound out words.

IšverstiShow in original languageFor the most-beginner reader, this is a great set of books. A child who has learned the basic sounds of the alphabet, he/she can jump right in and have success with reading.

My 5-year-old grandson was so proud of himself when he was able to pick up the first book and read it without a lot of coaching. A child who is more advanced probably needs a different set. The pictures are super simple, but entertaining for a child, and the characters are easily recognizable.

Forget about the reviewers that slam them for being “KKK. ” Totally ridiculous. They are based on shapes — Mat is round, Sam is a triangle. Come on people –do we have to look for something that isn’t there?!.

I should have bought an easier series for a new 5 year old.

These books do it and now the new edition of ‘Sight Words’ are great since in Kindergarten these words are being introduced at the same time.

The characters stay the same from Book 1 Beginner Reader to the end of the series. I am definitely saving these books for my 11 month son from my 5 year old son.
