20 Best Lawn Seed For Dogs (2023 Updated)

I have three dogs ranging in sizes from small to extra large. One can imagine how my backyard looks with dogs leaving their business behind and tearing up the grass. Needless to say, my poor yard needed some loving tlc.

I came across Scotts® EZ Seed® Dog Spot Repair Sun and Shade. I have noticed a dramatic change in the landscape of said backyard. Scotts® EZ Seed® Dog Spot Repair Sun and Shade was easy to use. The seed mixture is more like granules with a hard material mixed in.

The mixture come in an easy to use sprinkle style container. Seeding the yard was easy as all I had to do was push open the lid where it says lift. This turns the lid into a hand held spreader and allows for ease when sprinkling the seed mixture onto the “affected” areas.

I did notice towards the end, I was getting a lot of dust while shaking. After spreading the mixture, I did water the seeds like the instructions recommend on the label. It took a few weeks before I noticed much of an improvement.

The biggest difference I noticed is that my backyard is coming back to its normal and lush self. I do have a few patches where I have no grass, but I could easily apply another application with this product.

Our dog has completely destroyed our backyard. There were so many brown spots and we have tried many products to regrow the grass in those areas but it either takes too long for it to grow back or we just haven’t had any luck.

After using this product we were already seeing amazing results in a week. It has been almost a month now and the grass has grown back very thick and green. I am beyond surprised at how fast this product works.

Our customers are very picky about their lawns so we looked for something to repair female dog spots on their lawns. We are very happy to have found Scotts® EZ Seed® Dog Spot Repair Sun and Shade. Worked well on lawns that were in full sun as well as in shady spots under trees.

It was very easy to use but the birds eating the seeds were the main problem. It did take a little extra water to get the seeds to take and growth came within a week to 2 weeks. My only challenge is that it isn’t the same grass as we have in my area so be aware you may notice spots where the new grass is coming in rather than it all being conformed and consistent.

That, I’m hoping will change in time but for now it isn’t a huge problem. Overall, Scotts® EZ Seed® Dog Spot Repair Sun and Shade was effective and much easier than having a bald, blonde spot in areas of the lawn.

I spread some of this product out, according to the instructions, and waited, and waited, and waited. It has rained, and rained, and the sun has shined, and shined, and it has rained again. But there is no grass at all.

Don’t buy this product, if you want my opinion.

I usually try to overseed our yard each fall. Since we have a fairly good size yard, I try to get a reasonably priced grass seed. For the past several years I have been using seed from TSC. I have used the DLF KY-31 Tall Fescue several times now and have been pleased with the results.

The most important things to me are the germination rate, the germination time, and the durability. I am very pleased with the results in these three areas. Even though Middle TN tends to get quite hot and often dry in the summer, the DLF KY-31 tends to do quite well, even though fescue is a cool season grass.

This brand my die back a little during the hottest times, it tends to come back nicely when it starts to cool off and the autumn rain begins to fall. I am well pleased.

I have bought quite a bit of this grass seed over the years, typically 2 bags per year(100lbs total), and it seems every year i get less satisfactory results. This past spring i overseeded and planted some new areas only to have patches of this grass die after a couple weeks.

I came up great but went downhill from there. I tried more water and less water in hopes to figure out what was happening but it didnt help. I just overseeded the current lawn and planted a new patch with fresh loam and while it came up great, after a couple weeks large, brown patches of dead grass started appearing.

This might be my last year buying seed from TSC since i’d rather spend twice as much and end up with green grass instead of brown patches of dead grass.

Bought this seed in spring of 2019. Did not apply the seed to my lawn until late September early October here in the upstate of South Carolina Greenville. I bought a dethatcher for my riding mower. Dethatche the lawn then applied seed.

I watered the lawn every day with my irrigation system at 4am, 10am, 12pm, 3pm, and 7pm. I set the sprinkler system to only water my lawn for 5 minutes at each time programmed, except for the 3pm time.

It was set to water for 10 minute duration at 3pm. I stopped that watering schedule by late October and then let mother nature take over at that point. I applied Scott’s starter for new seed when I seeded the lawn and did a follow up feeding early November.

Within 8 days I had growth. And by the middle of October I had to cut the lawn. Then cut the lawn again in November. I also made sure I kept the leaves off the lawn all winter long. On March 10th 2020 I put down Scott’s triple action fertilizer with crab grass preventer.

Reactivated my irrigation system on March 20th and it now waters the lawn on Saturday Tuesday and Thursday at 4am for 15 minutes and again at 5pm for 15 minutes. And I have to say my yard looks AWESOME! Very good seed.

We, Opal and Puck, love their cat grass! It is very easy to grow and is ready before you know it. Our little Opal was abandoned and taken in as a very young little kitten. She is the sweetest cat you’ll ever have.

Anyway, since her paws have never touched the grass she has found the next best instinctive behavior. She lays in the cat grass and nibbles while she relaxes. So cute. I tried to attach the picture but your technology won’t permit me to share it.

Sprouted quickly. Follow the instructions and you’re set! The second time i sprouted some for my cat i covered it with some dirt so the roots were deeper so she couldn’t tear it out so easy (and bring a clump in the house to spread dirt everywhere) it still sprouted, it just took a little longer to come in fully.

If you want quick grass, just cover with a piece of cardboard and make sure there isn’t any light seeping in from the edges. However, my roots were not very robust that method. I soaked my seed for for 4-6 hours.

One 12 oz bag does a LOT of grass.

Not only am I very happy with the quality of these seeds, the cats are also. The order arrived within a few days and I set to soaking the seeds and prepping the containers immediately. A week later, the cats are in heaven.

It’s a hearty variety with thick blades. I put them ins 12 x12 inch container and they obviously look delicious to the cats. I’ll be back for more.

I turn over my soil and raked it before adding the seeds and adding new black soil over the seeds but not too much. I watered it twice a day once at 7am and again at 7pm for more then two weeks. Its growth was at best spotty so I added more seeds and raked the seeds into the soil and continued to water it twice a day.

What a waste of water and time. I’m not looking forward to seeing my water bill.

When I ordered this product I though it was a fescue. I was surprised when it wasn’t. It would have been better if it had been labelled annual or perennial as well.

Did the trick as i can seed all the little sprouts popping up across the bare spots . Awesome!

The seed began to sprout after a week. The grass has a fine, soft blade that is a deep green. It’s a little clumpy, but probably that is due to imperfect watering. I still like the look. WOULD HAVE LOVED TO KNOW that I could improve growth and stop the weed growth with Scott’s new seed fertilizer and weed stopper.

I have spent countless hours pulling what has to be many thousands of weeds, and wondering why most of the grass was not growing very well. I learned about the fertilizer and then the grass came in quickly, thickly and it is quite lush.

I still have massive weeds. Ugh. I mowed it and after a few weeks, I’ll put a weed killer down, but I’m hoping it won’t kill this type of grass, too. This is all on me, though. The seed is great.

At first I was really skeptical about this grass. I filled a glass with water ,none of the seeds sank. I thought it would not grow. I did overseeding of the front lawn. What a pleasant surprise! It took only a week for the new grass to start growing.

It is noticebly shorter!.

This grass is appearing to be what it is claimed to be. Low grow-no mow. It is nice and green, has fine blades, and is covering the area nicely. I bought two 10 pound bags and have about half of a bag left for fill in as needed.

We have the irrigation sprinklers set to go off three times daily to get it established.

I am impressed with this grass. I live in a semi hot part of the country, with temperatures in the upper eighties to mid nineties. My house is a new build with contractor grade soil brought in. The soil is a clay base soil with sand, so I raked some lines into the “soil” and gave the seed a try.

The seed germinated and took root in the clay. I was impressed that this grass can survive this type of soil condition. I am now in the process of breaking the ground and mixing top soil in to provide the seeds with a little more friendly soil.

So far the seed has germinated and is taking root, I would buy again.

Ordered 5 lbs of Cody seed. Sowed it in Knoxville (East TN). Germination has been very good so far. Probably sowed it late in the year (early to mid August) so we’ll see how it does over the winter. Using for a large area with no irrigation.

Hoping it will choke out the sedges and weeds. As always, Hancock delivered fresh seed, on time, at a competitive price. I’m a multiple times repeat customer of Hancock. Thanks.

Over half of the bag was seed casings and stems. I won’t bay seed from hancock again. I won’t recommend hancock to anyone I know or advise. I bought seeds from two other companies and got seeds only.

I got ripped off by hancock!.

Patch and Adding Grass Seed, this is not the best to use, actually used this product as additional; grass seed being added with fertilizer etc. Even though everything was done correctly – the results was not good.

This grass seed was used to grow grass around a mailbox post. The new grass grew quickly and looks great. I recommend this grass seed for your landscaping needs.

I recently had paving work done in my garden and the workman was so messy he managed to get cement, concrete all over my lawn. He also dug up too much grass when laying the path. I saw this lawn seed in Robert Dyas and thought ‘what the heck’ it will either work or grass will remain wrecked.

To my greatest surprise and delight, my lawn is looking very lovely with very thick lush green grass.

I have a small lawn which needs annual repair to damage caused by overuse. The grass seed needs to grow quickly, as I haven’t got sufficient room to section off parts of the lawn for long. It also needs to not be attractive to pigeons in particular.

I live in Central London and we have a lot of pigeons. Doff Fast Grow Lawn Seed solves both of these issues so I am a repeat buyer. Highly recommended.

I bought 4 boxes , Put it down the day I got the seeds. It has been just over a week and nothing has grown !! Nothing at all!! This is not a truthful, grass doesnt quick grow or grow at all !! I am so upset as now need to buy more seeds elsewhere in order to grow grass !! Waste of money !!.

The product is very expensive you can buy from B&M for 2.99 same size box and dog patch resistant.just feel like Ive been ripped off.

The grass is amazing! It grows within 7 days! Super fast just make sure you keep raking it after you’ve wet it.

27 September 2021. Thoroughly watered and aerated the lawn; then raked it and spread a layer of Wickes multi-uirpose topsoil over it before attempting to scatter this grass seed evenly over it using the ‘built-in side applicator’ which is a series of holes and a flap on the side of the box.

Trouble is, the instructions tell you to use 30g per sq metre for revitalising your lawn or 40g per sq metre for new lawn or patch repairs – but how are you supposed to weigh out the correct amount if you are going to utilise the ‘built-in side applicator’? 18 October 2021.

Most of the seed has grown. The instructions say ‘First cut at 5-8cm (2-3″)’. Gradually lower the cutting height to about 2. 5cm (1 inch). Do not remove more than 1/3 of the grass leaf at any one time.

I’m not sure whether this means that the first time you cut should be when the new grass has grown to 5-8cm long or whether the first time you cut it should leave the new grass 5-8cm long? The new grass does seem to be about 3″ long now – but the ground still feels too wet to mow it :-/ In fact, I am still resisting even walking on the new grass!.

I bought this product to rejuvenate half my rear lawn, the other half needed complete reseeding as did my front lawn. I originally bought two 1. 6kg that stated 40m2 coverage. The rear lawn area that needed reseeding was approx 28m2.

I used a whole box and a bit. The coverage look good and even and I was impressed when it started to germinate within 4 days. The front garden area was approx 35m2. I used the remainder of the second box for this.

After a week all areas seem to have some growth but some a lot more than other but I could see plenty of “seed” in the areas that were more bare, so thought they just needed more time to germinate. I bought a 3rd pack a week after the first sowing which I used on the area that had grass but needed a top up.

Total 3 boxes should have enough to cover 120m2 for a actual area of approx 70m2 should have given lush thick even growth but what seemed at first to be seed was in fact husk! This was noticed when seeding the last box as it was a little breezy when sowing.

To sum up – What was seed germinated quickly and has grown well but much of the box was husk and gave a false coverage reading and now I have large bare patches and patches of minimum growth along side nice thick coverage.

If you are going to use, allow for twice the coverage you need to ensure a got coverage. In my opinion this is expensive and you could probably get better cheaper.

I have a couple of areas of lawn that in partially shaded so I bought some of this stuff as its apparently guaranteed to grow. 8 weeks ago I spent a lot of time preparing the ground and fencing it off to keep the dogs of it.

I then followed the instructions, including regular watering and waited for the grass to appear. When there was no sign after a couple of weeks I contacted the manufacturer who checked the seed wasn’t out of date using the batch number on the box and told me to call back after 2 more weeks and if it still wasn’t growing they would “sort me out”.

2 weeks later I called and they said it was because of the weather, they assured me it could not be the seed and referred me to an independent website for confirmation. They did however send me some vouchers to cover the cost of some of the seed.

This website also had a method to test your grass seed by planting it indoors. I followed this method and 2 weeks on, with no grass growing in the lawn or the test sample I called Westland again. This time they said they would have to do their own test and asked me send in a sample of the seed I had left.

They said the test would take 5 “working days”, as far as I know grass still grows at the weekend?. 10 days later I called, the guy I spoke to had not check the result and said he would call me back.

2 days later I had heard nothing so called and he had gone on holiday. I spoke to another guy who confirmed that the seed tested in their lab had failed. He then told me that I could replace the 4 boxes with the vouchers they had sent, however, the vouchers were for £30 and the boxes £9 each.

After lengthy discussions he agree to send me another voucher. So, I’ve spent 8 weeks unable to use half of my garden, (only God know how much water I’ve wasted) and chasing these people because their “guaranteed to grow” seed didn’t.

don’t waste your money on this stuff.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is a really good Turf Builder as they say. The bags small but covers so much grounds. I actually had left over which shocked me. It easily went through my spreader and my spreader had no issue dispensing the product so it was Jam free which was nice.

After a little bit I was actually very impressed with the results of the product and have very beautiful grass blades all over my yard. I will definitely be purchasing this several times a year to get this beautiful yard.

Having a green and healthy looking yard is important to me! I take alot of time and effort into my yard looking great. This Turf builder is very easy to use and help tremendously making my grass thicker and beautiful in the sun or shade.

I was seeing results as little as 2 weeks and within a month to a month and half were the best results! With the seasons changing fast I’m already noticing my grass still green and starting to look more fuller each day.

With this bag I was able to stretch it out to cover a full acer with no problem.

With a lot of trees shading certain parts of the yard completely and other areas getting constant sun, the combination of shade & brutal Texas heat just makes keeping a good looking yard a tall order.

I like to throw seed on it a few times a year and have learned consistency is key. Throwing seed out and hoping it grows quick really only works in ideal conditions. I used this bag of ProMix seed early last week and used my walking seed spreader to distribute.

Made sure to get a fairly even coverage, but definitely focused on the trouble areas. We got some rain last week which was good timing for the seed. I do see new grass growing and the entire back yard looks greener and fuller.

This 5 in 1 formula looks to be working quite well!.

J’ai arroser tous les soirs quand il n’avait pas eu de pluie de jour. Les premieres poussent ont apparu seulement a la journée 16 ou 17. Il a fallu encore un bon 2 semaines avant que ça épaississe assez pour caché le fond et pouvoir tondre une premiere fois.

J’ai du resemer ce weekend pour combler les espaces claisemées. A cette vitesse, ça va prendre tout le reste de la saison avant de pourvoir avoir un gazon uniforme et satisfaisant.

Mega Dicht und das Unkraut wird wirklich verdrngt, auch wenn mal Lwenzahn auftaucht, kann man mega leicht entfernen, ohne groe Lcher zu frchten.

Farbe mega grn, erst recht nach Dngung. War die einzige im Haus, die im Sommer noch grnen Rasen hatte nach der Hitzeperiode. Super Qualitt, werde ich immer wieder gebrauchen, wenn nicht mehr im Baumarkt bei uns erhltlich, dann halt bers Netz.

Lsst sich super mit dem Rasenmher bearbeiten und fhlt sich super an. Muss leider meinen Garten im Haus tauschen, also werde ich abermals den Rasen ausshen.

TranslateShow in original languageDies ist bereits meine 2. Gropackung des Wolf Rasens, eben weil ich mit dem Versuch (1. Packung) doch recht zufrieden war. Der Rasen keimt schnell (im Sommer ist bereits nach 1 Woche das erste Grn zu sehen), hat eine feine Blattstruktur und ein schnes Grn.

Nach der Aussaat ist drauf zu achten den Boden stndig feucht zu halten (d. h. im Sommer mehrmals tglich zu wsssern. ). Ebenso ist es wichtig da der Boden ein paar Nhrstoffe aufweist (Humus beimischen).

Auf alten nhstoffarmen Bden ist die Keimung schlecht. Wenn das Grn mal steht ist der Rasen strapazierfhig und pflegeleicht. Bei mir sieht der Rasen auf der Nordseite besser aus als auf der Sdseite, kommt aber dennoch mit Sonne gut klar.

Alles in Allem ein guter Rasen der leider auch ziemlich hochpreisig ist.
