24 Best Lawn Insecticide For Mosquitoes (2023 Updated)

I have used this product for years and liked it. However, this year I bought 6 early on in the year, and so far every one has spit out the little white insert out of the sprayer that creates the fine mist.

The cans still spray, but it is much coarser without the insert and less effective as it doesn’t stay in the air. Plus much of it just drips down the front of the automatic sprayer.

My barn is never without this automatic fly spray. The regular fly spray canister is not effective, but this one with the additional mosquito protection works very well. My barn and surrounding area has virtually no flies or mosquitos.

The best mosquito control I know of, used professionally, by local and county mosquito control, and by many good folks who are aware of its effectiveness. Spread the word! If use of BT becomes more widespread, it could knock down greater concentrations of mosquitos without harm to wildlife and beneficial insects like praying mantis, ladybugs, and honeybees.

Tractor Supply is the first place I found to have a reliable supply of BT Bits.

This produce has been helping us live with less mosquitoes and some other bugs/flies for years. With half the pastures being wet in the Spring/Summer many puddles are hoof prints. Just spreading a handful of Mosquito bits seems to cut down on mosquitoes, deer and horse flies, which are also wetland breeders.

At present, thanks to a neighbours blocked storm and leaking gutters, Im inundated with fungal gnats slowly killing all my potted plants and inhibiting any cuttings and seedlings. This product works at reducing numbers if instructions are followed correctly.

It is not a cheap sadly. But necessary until my swamp is drained.

I recently had a heavy infestation of wasps and yellow jackets. I found this product at Tractor Supply and decided to try it. I was somewhat confused by the mixing instructions for a hose-end sprayer but finally decided to go with 2 oz.

per gallon. I sprayed the entire side and gables of my house and into any holes in the vinal siding. The next morning there were hundreds of dead or dying wasps on the ground and porch. I highly recommend this product.

We had a sudden flea infestation in our garage probably thanks to our uninvited opossum-visitor. We tried to clean the area with bleach, applied pressure water to clean, tried several other insecticides (including two well known brand name).

None of them worked. I have searched for the active ingredients from industrial products (commercial grade) and found this active ingredient. It is a natural component (chemical) of chrysanthemum flower.

This product is very effective when used at the maximum suggested amounts. In my situation, I had to use three applications because I have had a major major infestation. However, now it is as clear as the blue sky.

The total time? It took three to four days to see the results since the chemical is a systemic one, which means this poison doesn’t kill instantly and it takes some time until it dies. It also worked on palmettos, and other insects as an un-intended positive result.

Overall, yes, I strongly suggest this product!.

The price is right and this stuff works! I haven’t seen a bug in ages. Pest control companies water down their product and aren’t allowed to kill everything. That’s why they have to come back so often.

It pays for itself in one use and lasts for a long time. It’s so easy just do it yourself.

I “assume” they work. I put some in my birdbath and so far, no larvae. The writing is so small that I’m not sure of how to use the item, the amount needed, or when do I repeat the application. As for the delivery service.

the person delivering the item left the cardboard box containing the Mosquito Bits, out in the rain. Luckily, the Mos. Bits are inside a plastic type bag.

Virtually 100% effective at controlling(basically eliminating) all listed pests. Mosquitos vanished within hours. Fleas and ticks were nowhere to be found within a day. The bottle says coverage up to 2700sq ft.

I would give a more conservative estimate of 2000sq ft. Even with repeated rainfalls over the last several weeks I comfortably got 3. 5-4 weeks of effective control from this product. It’s not the 3 months advertised but for the cost, I’m happy to reapply three to four times throughout the rough summer months.

I sprayed this in my frontyard and backyard. I can finally go outside without any bugs during the day. no more pesky mosquitoes. I live in Texas and there are plenty of them here. I needed something because we have animals and also for us to be able to go on the back yard without getting ticks BUY IT!!!.

This is a great outdoor bug deterant. I used it on the back of my house and all through the back yard and I noticed a big difference. There were no more bugs! But I need to spray the front yard also because I see a few bugs coming from the front porch.

This stuff acts like a barrier, but I spray it all over the yard anyway. It’s very strong against bugs.

You know when a product doesn’t work — mosquitoes biting you. After trying many different products over the past few years, I found this to be the absolute best. It comes in an easy to open and easy to close container which is surprisingly light when the container is full.

It’s easy to sprinkle the powder around. I found the scent pleasant unlike all other anti-mosquito products. I would sprinkle it around about an hour before we were going to sit out, and we would have a mosquito-free dinner.

I would re-apply after it rained. I liked this product so much that I made sure to order another one around Labor Day — to make sure we have it on hand for the start of next season.

I tried this product during a very bad infestation of mosquitos due to a very rainy June. My goal was modest – just keep them from buzzing around my front door. With products like this, I always wonder about the subjective element.

You can’t really count the mosquitos so kind of strive for a visual overall judgment. I think that with many products that promise a result, some people tend to see that result simply because they expect it.

In my case, I did not. I applied this liberally (in such a way that I would NEVER achieve the stated coverage). Pleasant smell that you do notice, but just for the first day. Could not really see a significant reduction in mosquitos.

First rain and the mosquitos were as bad as they ever had been. The label states “last for up to 3 weeks. ” That’s a tricky statement; it is not the same as saying “effective for 3 weeks. ” Does it mean the scent lingers that long? Or that the granules are still visible after 3 weeks.

Bottom line: I was simply hoping to keep mosquitos from my front door with this product and appeared to make very little difference.

I live next to a bayou and the mosquitoes are insane. They laugh in the face of deet and various repellents. This product actually works where others have failed and for cheaper than other options. My only issue is I have to reapply it after heavy rain or else the mosquitoes come back taunting and showing off new Kung fu moves they learned while they were gone.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought this specifically to kill the Spotted Lanterfly in my maple tree because Ortho’s website claimed it killed them on contact when used per the package directions.

Unfortunately, even when used exactly as directed it did nothing. They paused as they were covered in spray and then just kept on going. No change, no death, nothing. I’m sure it works on other insects but it didn’t work for this annoying invasive species.

IšverstiShow in original languageIn North Florida we have insects year around, and in the spring they definitely become more of a problem. Misquotes are a serious problem now, as well as insects on my citrus trees.

This product seems to work on killing BOTH, so I don’t have to buy these products separately, as well as lawn pests like lawn moths and sod web worms. I have applied it once and notice no misquotes on my screen porch where they usually land.

It will also kill fleas and ticks which are a constant pest for my out door cats. Seems like the ideal all around insecticide that is easy to apply with an Ortho lawn sprayer. (I’m waiting for the bees to finish pollinating my citrus tree flowers before spraying them just to be careful with the the little guys 🙂 Then I hope it will keep scale and leaf curl off these trees as well.

I waited until I had treated my yard a couple of times so leave an honest review. I really wanted this to work. The chiggers are so bad here in Arkansas that I have to practically wear a hazmat suit to work in my yard and garden.

With temperatures in the upper 90s and humidity nearly as high it is just miserable. I do not like spraying anything that will hurt the bees or pollinators and I really hoped this would work. I live on 5 Acres, and it is a wooded lot, however, where the house and garden is is very manicured.

I sprayed the lawn, up against the house, and all the trees and anything within 15 ft of the yard. We have trees, but we don’t have undergrowth but I sprayed it anyway as a preventative. I also sprinkled the granules and especially well around the border of the yard.

I “think” it helped some for about a week, so I sprayed again 2 weeks after the initial spraying hoping that would take care of any remaining monsters. We have had virtually no rain, so I don’t think it washed off.

Unfortunately, I am still being bitten. I think this is a product that does work but perhaps not for as long as I had hoped. I am not able to spray the yard weekly as it takes over 200ft of hose and is too labor intensive and if I have to spray weekly to cost prohibitive as well for my large yard.

I really have nothing bad to say but I do want to give an honest review. The product arrived quickly, undamaged and I think is a good price. It may be the area we are in I don’t know but I will still recommend the product for others to try in more residential areas.

I have been buying this product since early spring using the granules and yard spray every couple weeks and it is having little effect. I still can’t go outside without getting covered in mosquito bites.

I tried it last year with no success and decided to try again this year. I hate giving a bad review because I love what this company is trying to do. However, it just doesn’t work in southern Virginia and I feel like I wasted a lot of money.

We’d been paying a pest control company to spray our yard all summer with no real improvement. We live close to a park and marshy land, and the mosquitos were just relentless. This is cheaper than paying a service AND actually works.

I can wear shorts in our backyard for the first time ever. It’s only been two weeks, so not sure how long it will actually last, but I wouldn’t care if I have to spray it every single week if it continues to work this well.

No smelly insecticides to inhale. Water activates and it’s indescribable. Best product to have year around. Less creepy crawlers seen on porch or windows. Sprinkle the Ortho BugClear Arian your house and along grass line and you will most definitely see a difference.

More specifically Earwigs/Silverfish, which are absolutely horrible and terrifying to think of with my children or even worse our disabled child!!! Naturally I have been freaking out an trying to deal with them!!! I have bought numerous bags of this as well as sprays, and none of them kill or even deter the Silverfish!!! I have spent hundreds of dollars on this brand only to be disappointed, dissatisfied and frustrated!!!.

I wondered if it was the product that kept the bugs away or if it was the new state we were living in? The following year I didn’t use any insecticides on the lawn.

By the time the end of the summer approached we had SO MANY bugs! Mosquitoes, two types of little flies covering the lawn, yellowjackets, spiders … we couldn’t stand being outside. The third year I had a baby in early Spring so we were inside most of the hot Spring & Summer.

But when we did go outside, we were quickly chased back in the house by flying bugs. The yellowjackets mostly! This year I will be applying this stuff consistently. Never again will I skip an application.

I want to ENJOY my yard! The funny part is that I commented about how we didn’t have any bugs the first summer we were here and that the last two summers we had soooo many yellowjackets. Everybody kept saying “We always have a ton of yellowjackets!” I didn’t see a single one the summer I applied this spray, so I was surprised to hear the neighbors around me were suffering with Yellowjacket problems while we were barbecuing and enjoying our yard that summer.

IšverstiShow in original languageFor an old lady I had few problems. The first time I turned the water on it sprayed back at me. I unthreaded then rethreaded and it stopped. The water, apparently, comes out in a jet stream when no product is coming out, then turns into a nice wide spray when the product is coming out with it.

It was a bit difficult to see the level of product remaining, but I could guess by how heavy or light the bottle was feeling. Hopefully it will take care of the fleas. I used another product, but it didn’t kill a lot of them.

It made the environment more hostile than the Pet Armor Plus that was on my dogs…. all the fleas, apparently, jumped onto the dogs preferring the Pet Armor. It was A LOT! What a war! Hoping this kills them instead of just a shot across the bow.

The dogs got a different topical, as they obviously learned to live with their current topical. PLEASE work! I’m exhausted fighting this fight, checking all the time and all the cleaning and treating bedding—and I don’t even have carpeting! But I refuse to let my babies suffer.

IšverstiShow in original languageSo I purchased 2 bottles from Homedepot the other day. First bottle sprayed 3/4 of my yard 3000 square feet when I noticed the product level never drop at all. Then the hose blew off the connection.

So I tried bottle #2 this time the bottle stayed on but again know product left the bottle. Yes it was in the on position on both bottles. I’ve never had this problem with the one from Cutter backyard mosquito which has been my go to.

I guess it’s back to ol reliable.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis summer was much wetter than normal. We had a MAJOR problem with mosquitoes. We were using a local pest control company that installed passive mosquito traps that were not effective.

I used this fogging product at night with very light breeze, got bitten several times while doing so. Next night only had 1 bite after 20 mins outside when b4 would have been covered up. Estimate a 95% kill rate – EXCELLENT!!.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought my first one many years ago but left it in my barn and after many years it rusted up due to the heat produced and air moisture. It works so well for mosquitoes that I purchased another one and now keep it in the house when not in use to avoid unneccessary moisture and rust.

This is by far the best product I have ever seen for mosquitoes and flies in my stables. The best way to get rid of mosquitoes is to fog as soon as it gets dark on on calm night. Wait about a week and fog again.

Then wait about 2 weeks and fog again for one last time and it usually takes care of my mosquitoe problems for the summer. What you are doing is taking out the first generation and then each succeeding generation until there is none left to reproduce.

I live deep in the country in alabama in an enormous amount of woods and the fogger and this insecticide allows us to enjoy our summers without getting bit by mosquitoes. Best product ever!!!!!!!! Well worth the money.

P. S. I even use it to wipe out wasp nest after dark around the eves of my house. If used as directed you will not be disappointed. A must for those who live out in the country and like to be outside.

IšverstiShow in original languageProduct works well with my fogger and definitely reduces the amount of mosquitoes. Whether or not it kills them ALL on contact, is still in question. This is the third 64 oz bottle I’ve purchased, so it does help for about a week after spraying, but I still get bit once in a while in-between.

The invasive Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is the primary biter in my part of SoCal and is the reason I purchased the fogger and insecticide. These “ankle biters” are daytime pests that leave red and very itchy bites on the back of legs and arms.

I call them “ninja” mosquitoes because you rarely see them, until you feel the itch.

IšverstiShow in original languageConsider using something else like Neem oil, or horticulture mineral oil. It’s also available here. We need our polinators. Otherwise monsanto corn is the only thing that will sprout of the ground that doesn’t need a flower.

Its the go to in my garden, when bugs try to invade.

The results were terrific. Not a single bite for any guest, or me.

it is for outdoor use only & please do not use on vegetation. Based on past experience with other ortho products i believe it will work well & I cant wait to use it on those horrible mosquitoes.

Finally after 3 years of fighting flies and mosquitos I’m free! This really works. Didn’t think it would but after my kid sent me a video on someone using it I figured what the heck why not, so glad I did.

Flies were the biggest issue. Every door that opened 3-5 flies would fly in. There’d be no fly insight, but as soon as a door opened there they were flying in whether I was going or coming lol. Bought this bug yard control and followed the instructions.

Not sure if the instructions said to spray the fence, but I know the video I watched did. So, I sprayed my entire yard and fence and haven’t had flies or any other pesky bugs since. Minus the first couple of days after applying it.

I was very skeptical about this product. I bought it last summer because every time you step outside, at my house in NC, the mosquitoes eat ya alive!! I ended up not using it & moved to a new place & couldn’t take it any longer.

I was using 2 citronella torches & a bug zapper at my front porch & 2 torches & a bug zapper at my back porch plus spraying myself down w/ “Off”! (Also had to keep bug spray on my toddler grandbaby which I HATED).

I put in a request for the county to come spray my yard, they sprayed the edge of my yard & it didn’t help AT ALL. I remembered that I had the 2 bottles of Cutter Backyard so I decided to use it yesterday.

As I type this I’m sitting outside w/out any bug spray on me & no torches burning!!! I’m so IMPRESSED!! The only thing that’s flying around are bees. The yellow biting flies are gone, mosquitoes are gone, & from what I can tell the fire ants are gone too!! I have a screen tent set up & there were some kind of fly/bee looking insect that had taken over & every single one of them have disappeared! I had swarms of flies in my yard & they’re gone as well! Definitely worth buying!! & I’ll buy it again when the time comes.

The reason I am only giving 4 stars is because at times it seems as if the solution isn’t coming out of the bottle with the water hose attached. I would like to know what the ratio is so I could mix it & spray w/ a sprayer for when it’s not coming out of the bottle.

Totally disappointed!! What a waste of money & time. Used at the beginning of the season and that lasted for literally maybe 3 hours. still had product left so I figured I would try some again a few days ago.

This time it didn’t do a do a thing. there was no difference in mosquitoes or flies for that matter. I got so frustrated that I took the remainder of what I had & sprayed where I sit outside. sprayed a massive amount.

Very good product for use on ants, termites, spiders, mosquitos and and other pesky insects around my home and yard. I gave purchased this product from another source and wanted to try Solution Pest & Lawn.

5% sprayed on the lawn, furniture and in the underbrush for 20 ft around my yard mozzies went from unbearable-without-25% deet (10-20 bites pwr minute at dusk) to nearly none despite my property being surrounded by deep woods.

I try every new thing. As an avid gardener, dont want to hurt pollinators and I interefere with the ecosystem as little as possible, but you gotta keep your pets and family comfortable. permethrin is my only repeat purchase.

I apply it cautiously, forcusing on underbrush, hard surfaces, plants that are done flowering, the screens on my porch whos door the kids and dogs always push open but never close and steer clear of anything in bloom by a good margin and even using sparingly I still notice a drastic difference in mosquitoes.

The instructions with the product as well as the videos on the website clearly outlined how to apply the permethrin and the appropriate concentration.

It was easy to apply using a handheld sprayer and worked like magic. Despite Florida’s heat, humidity, and rain, one application has eliminated this pest for the time being. I have been very pleased with the product and with the excellent customer service from Solutions Pest & Lawn.

IšverstiShow in original languageDoes the job. Concentrated so it saves money and safe for my vegetable garden. I had a huge chigger infest in my yard and couldn’t even go out of the house for a few minutes w/o finding more bites.

Now I feel so much better I don’t even have to put bug repellant on everytime I go out to water my plants and flowers. This stuff lasts a long time and I haven’t seen any bugs since. Even mosquitoes.

That is a perk cause i just wanted to get rid of the chiggers. What can I say. ? I’m a chigger (and any other biting bug) magnet who is also allergic. But I also love the outdoors and my gardening. This has literally been a quality of life saver.

Works very well to kill pests listed on the product. We’ve used it for several years now. We use it both outside our house and inside. The quart will last quite a while if mixed according to the instructions.

We highly recommend this product- it is fantastic!! No bugs inside at all!! No spiders, no ants, and no earwigs!! We have a covered front porch & patio on back of our house, and when I wake up in the morning, there’s dead bugs laying all around the perimeter of the house!! Thus is the best product I have ever found. No more mosquitos! I can enjoy my deck and outside for weeks. I reapply every 3-4 weeks. A little pricy but worth every penny. I put the whole bottle in my 35 gal sprayer and spray the grass and use the wand to spray the house foundation and deck.

Hidden gem that is worth every penny! The difference between the neighboring yard and yours is night and day with this spray. On occasion this has been out of stock but would rather have bugs in my yard then waste my money on another product! We just wait until it’s back in stock.
