20 Best Late Spring Bass Lures (2023 Updated)

These small plugs are irresistable to trout. Due to a tighter wobble they can run in faster water than other kwikfish and flatfish plugs without compromising action. These are my go to trout baits in creeks nearby but they catch everything that swims.

The # 30 and #25 hotshots are synonymous with northwest steelhead and spring chinook fishing. The new high action rattle #35 and revised #25 are a great new addition to the hot shot arsenal. Backtrolled from a driftboat for steelhead and spring chinook , these plugs are DEADLY ! A # 30 forward trolled in lakes can be very effective for large rainbow trout.

The sizes can be a little confusing so lets stack em’ up from smallest to largest : # 70 smallest ( trout panfish) # 60 ( trout panfish ) # 50 ( trout , steelhead ) # 40 ( large trout , steelhead ) # 30 ( large trout, steelhead, coho, chinook ) # 35 ( Steelhead , Chinook ) # 25 largest( large native steelhead, Chinook ) Give em’ a shot trolled.

You’ll soon see why they are ‘ hot ‘ ! Good colors are metallic green, silver and chartreuse, and flouro red.

Um, nope. Bought 2 of these revolver baits. Big mistake. Pros: 1) casts easy. 2 ) hooks seem to be decent. Cons: 1 ) hooks tangle together on the cast. 2 ) bait does not operate well. On 8 of 10 casts the bait did not revolve until I jerked the bait violently in the water for an average of 5 ft.

Then it started working. 3 ) on the 4 th cast with one of the two baits one of the fins cracked and the edge broke off , along with the bone colored paint. 4 ) The plopper fin is made of solid plastic , not pliable, and seems to be too small to operate properly ( as noted in con# 2 ).

I would not waste another dime on this bait until googan tweaks their design.

The revolver is an awesome lure. I reel It in slow to medium speed and sometimes give it a lil jerk. It glides and i love the sound it makes with the propeller. The colors are great. I toss it near the reeds on calm days.

With a slight wind i toss it further out. It has the sharp look of a submarine style. Ive caught a couple on it, but they came off before landing them. Great lure! I recommend gettin one.

It’s a very good lure. the only problem is every time I go fishing with it I get caught on the treble hooks with my line than even catching fish. The hook up ratio is also pretty bad. the fish just seem to hit it out of anger and not fully take it.

I used it this morning and caught 2 fish but had probably 20 blow ups which sucked. I switched to the whopper plopper and I got hit like 10 times and caught 8 of those fish. idk what it is about the revolvers but their hookup ratio keep continuing to let me down.

Great lure that I have used for many years. The color on this really is very brilliant in the sun. Lots of fish are attracted to it. It’s also tough and lasts a long time since it is built so well. The original silver with black back also is an excellent version.

One of the most reliable lures I’ve ever owned! Whether your casting or trolling the jointed rapala catches bass/pickerel/walleye. My go to color patterns are gold/black and silver/black.

That’s what I call them, “Old Faithful”. I have caught more big bass on this lure than on any other. I like the J-11 for largemouths and j-9 for smallies. They work from ice-out to ice up, but are better in the summer.

Use any color that you like. The fish couldn’t care less about color. Color is to hook you, not the fish.

I bought a handful of these baits after a suggestion from a friend. Let’s just say I’m impressed. I fish a LOT and have fallen for my fair share of hyped up recommendations from fishing buddies. So, I go out on a fine Minnesota summer morning and am using the 1/2 oz Yellow Perch bait on a bait casting rig.

I caught several very respectable bass in the 4lb range, some very good Northern Pike, and a great Muskie! This is a workhorse of a bait. It’s a great sinking rattle bait with a square nose. The effectiveness is easy to see and if you want to put fish in the boat, buy some of these.

If you’ve fished Rapala Clackin Raps in the past. I’d recommend this bait as a superior replacement now that Rapala canceled that bait. I also like the sturdiness of this bait, many baits show wear after toothy fish love on them, this harder plastic weathers abuse very well.

I gave it 5 stars because I bought it from advice and was excited to use it. But, on my first trip. I some how cast it so unbelievably high up in a tree. Honestly, I have absolutely no idea what happened on that cast, everything felt normal, but somehow it was way up in a tree.

It looked impossible from where I was… I was hurt. But the lure did no wrong, it will forever live way up in a tree at River Park North. Bright and shiny, almost new. never getting a chance to live out its life catching big’ol bass.

Maybe one day it will be gifted to someone as it gets knocked out of the tree by an angry squirrel.

Purchased the Frittside 7 this spring. After catching a few fish with it, it filled with water. Took it home and tried to find a crack in the bait to no avail. Drilled a small hole in it to drain the water and sealed the hole.

Went fishing. Filled with water again. Repeated process and added “crazy glue” at hook hangers. Still filled with water. The bait catches fish but durability not so much.

This is a go to lure for smaller to medium size Calif Halibut and striped bass from the surf. Anglers tend to throw giant baits thinking 20 lbers and end up missing out on nice quality keepers which are feeding are smaller baits found in the surf.

They cast well and come in numerous colors to match the hatch on the bait fish. Best deal is they only cost $5. 00 in a time when some Lures can run $20. 00 or more.

We own many brands of lures. Most are very good. A few are excellent. Krocodile is one of the excellent. We primarily fish the Eastern Sierra. Krocodile lures will catch fish weather trolling or casting.

Last fall I fished Panguitch Lake in Southern Utah. I got a late start, somewhere around 10:00 am. I was told that the bite was slow. I did not see many bent rods. I dropped anchor and cast a Krocodile.

First cast, fish on! I have no idea how many cutthroats I caught and released. Other fishermen weren’t as busy as was I with my Krocodiles. Krocodiles were the only lures I used on that trip; they were the only lures I had to use! Krocodiles will catch fish.

I recommend them without reservation.

Looks good. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet. Appreciate the included siwash hook which can be used to replace the treble hook.

This is a excellent product. If you really enjoy using live minnows don’t buy these because If you purchase a pack of the 1. 5 tiny shad in black or albino you will never use live minnows again. Use with a 1/16 oz fish head jig head.

Cast out allow to sink and real in very slow and a pack of these will out fish any lure or live bait. I wish I could find some in 2 inch. I just can’t say enough about these.

I have been using the regular sized panfish assasins for a long time with great success. I got these for the extra lenth of tail and figured it would have more subtle motion which it seems to. I wish they would consider more colors but the ones they have work great thus far.

I cant wait to use them again. I was able to pull quite a few crappie out during the summer heat.

I just purchased this product and it really has been an awesome lure for me. I catch crappie and bream on this lure.

I used to use these when I was a kid in the 60’s. This lure, in red and silver or a Mepps spinner were deadly. I find myself going back to these classics and having better luck with these than anything else.

I picked up a gold super duper to try at a local lake that they stock with trout for the winter. I got there with about 45 minutes before sunset. I caught a nice rainbow on the second cast, and that’s mainly because I forgot to let it sink to the bottom on the first cast.

In the next 35 minutes I managed to catch 4 more fish, snagged on the bottom, spent 5-10 min trying to get it loose, and finally gave up and just snapped the line. I had other lures, and yes, these trout were aggressive and uneducated, but it was nearly dark, and I had fished the same lake last year with nowhere near this much success.

The next day I went to Bass Pro and picked up another gold one and a silver one.

I started fishing for brook, brown and rainbow trout in Wisconsin streams last year. Having only been fly fishing for trout prior this was a new twist. A friend mentioned this lure as a ‘go to’. He was right! When other lures aren’t producing, I tie on a super duper and I can be assured a strike.

My brother and I have caught more Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Hybrid, and Yellow Bass on the Little John MD 50. We can even troll and dig bottom on 10 lb test mono, in 14 ft of water, without a downrigger or added weight.

Cell Mate has won the most money in Bass tournaments for us. The lure is really quiet and gets the reaction bite. Don’t be afraid to crank it on the bottom and really let it dig! This is the second year in a row we have been fishing them.

We have learned so much from fishing Cell Mate that we put the same specs on other brands of crankbaits with a black marker in the boat. We started fishing them two weeks ago and will run them throughout the winter here in Tennessee.

After tournament weigh-ins, we get back in the boat and go troll for Hybrids. We have actually caught more and bigger Largemouth immediately after a weigh-in simply by trolling. It is so much fun, why not and Hybrids are amazing fighters, but their gill plates are like razors and will really cut you, so leave them in the net on the side of the boat when unhooking them.

The Little John MD is a clear to slightly stained water go to bait on lakes where thread fin shad are prominent baitfish. Fish it slow as you can over crank this small profile bait with its super tight wable action and ruin the action.

I’ve caught large mouth, Kentucky, small mouth bass as well as Brown trout on this well made bait. With its internal weight transfer system, it casts like a dream on 10# line on a properly set up bait caster reel and medium to medium light 7′ rod.

In windy conditions, a spinning rod will allow full casts into the wind. Cell Mate is my favorite color. Dives to 7-9′ depth with ease. Hesitate and the lure floats upwards maintaining its orientation.

Just love it!.

The Spro Little John MD 50 Is a fish catching Crank Bait. Good design and first class construction. Flat sided baits are very good in the colder water temperatures. I like the !/2 OZ. size baits and when using 8 LB.

Test Line they dive a little deeper and shake more.

While in Ontario Canada on our annual week long fishing trip in September 2009 our group of 9 guys hit one of our favorite Pike lakes looking to fill our allotment of take home sharp tooth’s when I became a believer in the Syclops.

There were 3 of us in my boat, me, another regular guy and the “new guy”. We all started with Spinners, which are usually a sure thing on any day in Canada, but that day something was just not right and the Pike strikes were erratic at best.

The lake was a good size but after half the day all the well known kill spots, and a bunch of new spots, had been worked pretty hard with poor results. After lunch the “new guy” decided to try the orange Syclops out of his Piker kit and as soon as that lure hit the water the schooling began.

It was unbelievable; the Pike were striking it like crazy. The other “regular guy” in our boat happened to have one in his tackle box and it did not take long before he took off his spinner and put on the Syclops and he too began reeling in the Pike.

Of course there I was with only my spinners so I had the pleasure of watching the 2 of them get Pike left and right while I barely got a strike all afternoon. At the end of the day when the 9 of us tallied our results we found out the 2 guys with the Syclops out fished the other 7 spinner throwers all together.

We thought this may have been a fluke but the next day, in completely different weather and a different lake, the results repeated themselves and the Syclops again slayed the Pike in comparison to the spinners.

Additionally, on that same day, the Syclops landed a wall hanger for the converted “regular guy” who has thrown spinners for 10+ years and not yet got his trophy. I almost forgot. there was one problem with the Syclops at first, the Pike got loose very easy.

We fixed this by scrapping the small treble hooks that came on them and replaced them with larger treble hooks and that cured the problem. They all hit the boat after that. In summary, I am “Sold on Syclops” and just ordered some for my next trip to the North.

I’ve tried these periodicaly about as long as they’ve been on the market. I keep trying them because of all the people who love them, but for me these have been mostly a dissapointment. They have a wide erratic wobble and they flutter intensly if you let them drop, some days this action seems to work pretty well for pike but I’ve had very little luck with other species.

The slow flutter makes it hard to count them down to any real depth. a lot of what I like about fishing spoons is their versatility, and this spoon is a one trick pony that works occasionally.

Let’s make one thing clear this lure will murder pike all day long. I have caught many large pike on these lures on the orange and silver colors. I use the 1 ounce size and seem to have no problem hooking pike however I have lost several nice smallmouth and a GIANT largemouth even though they were good hook sets.

Today went casting off Lake Ontario for salmon and trout and wasn’t sure if this lure would work on them or not but sure enough I hooked a nice size brown trout, northern pike and a real nice rainbow trout.

Guess what all three got off! Didn’t have a good hook set on the brown but had the pike and rainbow on for several seconds and they just got off. I’m not sure if it’s the size of the hook (hook is big on 1 ounce) or if these hooks just aren’t very sharp.

I noticed after losing the rainbow that the hooks were dull but I have lost a lot of fish with these lures even when they were brand new. Gave it 5 stars cause they are still great lures.

I’ve fished for the majority of my life, and most of the fish that I’ve caught have been top water blow ups. I’ve had this lure for maybe 2 months and I’ve already lost count on how many fish I’ve caught with it.

This thing is by far one of, if not the best top water I’ve ever used. Id also like to add that I have used a lot of 6th Sense lures/baits and have yet to catch anything😉 Googan keeps it simple, and they know why they’re doing.

It’s my favorite top water lure. Have caught many big fish on it. The nightclub color works great on cloudy and sunny day. And the style of the bait gives both a great walking and popping presentation.

Overall, it’s an amazing bait.

Really enjoy fishing with the blooper. Love the style and the look of the blooper. I have 3 different colors of the blooper just missing the nightclub. Can’t beat the top water blowups this lure produces.

It’s a must to have this lure tied on spring through summer.

Typical 4 day delivery. Received the name brand product I ordered. No real deal on the price. Haven’t fished with these lures yet but the review is really for the merchant and not the lures. If you want to know about WP lures, they work (I’ve caught 3-4 lb bass with them).

Use them in open water (they are NOT weedless) when slightly windy or in choppy water, vary the size by the amount of wind/chop and the size of the fish known to be there. The research I found recommended solid colors (white, black, or bone) or translucent (bluegill or munky butt) of which I have only fished the colors I bought.

Vary the size by the known size of the fish in the area (I bought 75 because I already own 90 & 130) but 110 is the most common size fished for LM bass.

I was never a top water type of guy. I know it is very exciting when they nail one. But I never had much success with them. But late last year I bought a cheap knock-off from a big chair retailer and I still didn’t catch anything with it.

I then was placing an order this past winter and these were on sale. I was told if you only own one, make it all black. It contrasts the top of the water and they can see it best. So I got the loon. Let’s just say, so far this year I have caught more fish on this lure than any other lure I use.

Including Ned rigs that catch everything. Or a wacky rig. And just yesterday I caught my PB largemouth bass with it. To say I am a believer would be an understatement. I have occasionally tried the cheap knock-off and never hooked up.

Had just one go after it. The noise it made is totally different than this one. And I think that is the difference. I ended up losing that knock-off and I will not replace it with that brand. I will get another River2Seas.

Why mess with what works? My PB I caught was 4 pounds 4 ounces and 22 inches. Now for you southern folks that is just an average bass. But for me in PA, it is a bigin. At least in my area. Do yourself a favor and get this lure.

If you can only get one, get the loon. It simply catches fish.

These are really great (with exception to the horrible tail flaw) when they work properly. I bought one at regular price online and then two at $5 a piece at DICK’s. Dunno if DICK’s got a discount on flawed merch, but all the frogs purchased from there took on water and began to sink every cast.

Hooks on those were also spaced further apart causing the body to slide out and needed to be reset almost every other cast. The other one that I bought at full price on Amazon did not have the same problems and slayed dat bass.

I had 4 fish hit it within 15 minutes of my first time using it. I was extremely impressed and thought I found my new go-to lure but sadly after just those few catches the frog started sinking and the whole body would spin.

In my opinion it is an amazing lure if you have money to replace it every few catches but at $10 a piece I’d expect better quality or durability so I can’t give it a solid rating.

Easy to cast this frog pretty far, and it works great in open water. In close it can roll over a bit, but not as badly as the Jr. version. The hooks are out a bit too wide, which leads to the legs popping through which leads to getting snagged very easily.

This and the Jr. version are the only two Booyah products I’ve used that I wouldn’t give a 4 or 5 star rating. They were on sale for $5 apiece, so I’m not too upset, but I was expecting better.

I am excited for the upcoming Walleye season. My fishing partner has 2 of these Bandit 200’s in spring craw/yellow. The action will trigger Walleye when nothing else does. We troll with about 95 – 105ft.

of 10lb diameter line and hit out marks on the GPS. Yeah, they seem to be the trick that brings in the fish. Now, I have 4 and might even give him 1 for letting me use his 2nd one. I definitely recommend these Bandit 200’s.

Bought this crankbait for a recent fishing trip and it outperformed all of my fishing buddies. It has a tight wobble and dives great. The spotted bass were killing it. I will be purchasing more of these in various colors and sizes.

I was using the chrome with blue back in the 300 size. BPS customer service & shipping issues were my only complaint. Would recommend only purchasing in-store as opposed to online due to these shipping issues.

I have caught so many different species of fish on Bandit 100-200 chartreuse shad. Pike in Canada, snook in Florida, crappie in Pennsylvania. It’s one of my confidence lures. I do a lot of trolling from a canoe in my home state of PA.

Bought this as a gift for my girlfriend in the pink tiger color. First cast and we noticed the entire lure was split up the belly causing the front ring that holds the hook to break off. Very disappointing because Rapala normally makes quality products.

These lures are not cheap and we didn’t even get to use it because it broke after this first cast. Very poor quality for a brand new lure, waste of money. Would love it if Rapala would replace it.

The best thing about this bait is the casting distance, and with a search bait you want to be able to cast long range. I use this for casting into sparse grass that hasn’t grown up to the surface. It has a great shimmy falling, and then rip it up when it starts to contact the weeds to trigger strikes.

All the colours are great (for different conditions). Some folks have complained about the durability but I haven’t noticed this to be an issue. It’s also possible for the hooks to tangle the line however the taller profile does diminish this compared to other baits.

I have been trying the clackin rap lately and found it to have some superior characteristics: better vibration, and hooks tangle less due to wider body – but this rap still outcasts them significantly.

If you want an awesome casting lipless crank this is excellent. Stock hooks are good so great out of box, I therefore rate the cost to be ok since I generally ended up replacing the hooks on other cheaper alternatives.

I love these Rippin Raps for Smallmouth bass here in Idaho. I have caught so many fish on them, that the finish is starting to come off! Straight retrieve or letting it fall and ripping it off the bottom, these things just get bit.

These baby poppers by Spro are the best frogs out there. I am pulling big lunkers on these luers. Nasty Shad aka “old Faithful” never disapoints. Leopard, Rain Forrest Black and Tropical are also great colors.

The bass just LOVE these frogs and can’t resist slamming them. I am looking for the Spro baby frog regular as well, hope I can find them. The only complaint I have is that after getting beat to hell by 5-7 pound bass, the belly of the frog starts to tear away.

This cause the hooks to sit to high on the frog and allows them to sink. I wish they had a reinforced hole on the belly for the hooks that resists tearing. Good problem to have though and that means I am catching plenty of bass! LOL Great bass bait.

i’ve been fishing spro frogs for about eight years now and they work , very durable and great selection of colors , the popping frog is my fav. it walks easy and pops and fish inhale it better than the regular 65 frogs they don’t always eat but the popping frog on a good day is 100 percent hookup ratio very seldom do they miss the popper , i like killer gill color or red ear because the color of the bottom but white or black will work any color will produce but killer gill and red ear is magical.

I have used many hollow bodied frogs over the past 5 years and it has quickly become my favorite and most productive lure in my boat. I have used approximately 6 different manufacturers of frogs and this is the one I’ve settled on as the most productive.

The leopard pattern is specifically my favorite in the month of May. I catch more numbers on this lure than any other with consistently larger size, the biggest being 22″ and 6 lbs 1 oz. I always buy 2 of them because the leg skirts get pulled off by some of the short strikes.

I don’t know if they designed it this way or it was a mistake. When reeling it in the front blade hits the back one causing it to be erratic. I solved the issue by opening the wire and adding more beads between the two.

So if you don’t mind making that adjustment it is actually a pretty good pike bait.

Out of the package, the hook kept getting caught on the outside of the dorsal fin, effectively ruining the “weedless” idea. It was hardly used before snagging and snapping the line. So much for weedless.

Hopefully it was just a defective product and we can get a better model.
