First off, my machine did pretty well for the price, when it was working. The interface is a bit clunky, but totally usable, and the utilities software for scanning/fax/etc. is pretty clunky also. Ultimately, I think it is junk because I managed to get 3000 pages out of it with a toner replacement, before quality began to go south.

The machine was printing images that progressively got more faded. I was recommended to replace the toner again (not cheap) by customer support in spite of the fact that it makes little sense that the first image would be good then subsequent images wouldn’t be.

So I spent the money on new toner, and experienced the same issue. After walking through this with customer support again, they told me they are unable to assist any further and that I should drive my printer to the nearest service center, which is 2.

25 hours one way. The drums show to be ~90% and the toner is all new. I called the nearest service center and asking what the most common 3 problems each individually cost to fix, it turns out I would spend 70-90% of what a brand new printer costs (assuming it’s one of those three).

Thank goodness I just spent hundreds of dollars on toner for a machine that is not working.

The Brother printer HL-2240 Laser Printer is a solid product, capable of volume production without the occasional hiccups & offline errors that seem to come with other printers. Its a very straight-forward printer meaning it sits nicely squared, somewhat compact/space friendly.

However it is black ink (monochrome) printing and no color option and it doesn’t have all the modern bells & whistles like Bluetooth or wireless, fax or scan and its not exactly a sexy looking electronic device that’ll captivate your visitors, and it comes in one basic color-monochrome, so no spectrum of colors like our phones.

But it works, gets the job done and the print work looks professional and since it looks low key, odds are it probably won’t get jacked. I noticed that retailers online are still selling this model brand new at $449.

I guess I have to buy about 7 laser cartridge before the ink will have cost more than the device. You know, it would be nice if Brother USA could have something like buy 4, get the 5th free or maybe offer a rebate to get the printer for free after buying more in ink that the printer cost.

I think you can make more money recycling a case of soda than a ink cartridge. Staples is offering $2 (Two) in rewards to recycle a ink cartridge. Maybe Brother can offer rewards too, maybe a mousse pad or pen holder after spending $500 in product purchases.

I needed to replace my previous Brother printer as age and constant use finally took its toll. I’m rather brand loyal so I went right for another Brother printer and so far it’s doing a great job. Set up was a snap and I really just like the way it looks sitting here by my desk.

My only complaint about the design is the printed pages aren’t easy to remove. My previous printer had a very pronounced paper guide/receptacle that lifted the pages up and gave plenty of area to grab them.

This printer has two movable guides in separate areas but neither seems to be very beneficial in removing the pages. They don’t lift the pages high enough. But that’s a minor problem. When it comes to a printer it’s all about quality and I’m happy with that.

It’s also much faster than my old one which is another bonus. BTW, don’t forget when you install any new printer, go into your control panel and DELETE your previous printer info, don’t just uncheck it in the options window.

This is a very good cheap laser colour printer as far as a Linux user is concerned. I am using Ubuntu 18. 04. LTS. To install this printer was a breeze. Simply enable and set up network from the control panel on the printer, my wireless ssid was detected and then I entered the password and within a couple of moments the green wifi light was on and it was connected to my wireless network.

I confirmed it was connected by checking the ip in my router control panel. Then in Ubuntu I went to System tools, Preferences, Settings, Printers and by the miracle of Opensource the printer was there and working.

nice one Ubuntu. I find it easy to control setting from the web interface you will need to log in, check out the Brother web site for Default password. There are other drivers for this printer available on the Brother web site by i have not investigated them as yet, to whether they provide more functionality.

HOWEVER there is a Caution, not to do with the printer but with Amazon. In the section under the advertisement entitled something like Also brought together they show the printer a set of toner cartridges.

DO NOT BE MISLED these are not compatible with the HLL3210 CW they dont fit. This printer uses TN 243 carts. the ones they show are for an older model printer. Dont assume that because Amazon links them together they will work.

To my chagrin, it was a really big surprise that the HP – LaserJet Pro 4001ne Black-and-White Laser Printer requires a hard wired, by ethernet cord, to an internet connection. I did not pay attention to the “ne” in the name, which essentially means hardwire to a network connection versus a “w” which would mean a wireless connection to the internet.

So, since this is a laserjet printer, and ideal for my CPA business office application, In order to connect and make this machine usable, I wound up calling my telephone coop who is my internet provider, the only one in town, and paying them somewhere in the neighborhood of $70-$100 for them to install a plug in wired to the router that they originally gave me for free.

As soon as the machine was hooked up to the internet, it tried to install itself, but it ran into a hiccup and produced an error message that no matter what I did, did not clear itself. I had to work to find a legitimate HP toll free number, not one to a group that for a fee services HP.

This machine is supposed to print 42ppm with a 350 sheet capacity, only in black, supporting a small office, such as mine, with up to 4000 pages per month.

I am a one person office, but this could easily be accessed by many people in one office. The machine comes with a power cord and a 148A cartridge in the box. However, there is a high capacity cartridge, 148X that will print up to 9,500 pages.

I had to provide the ethernet cable that plugs into a high speed port. HP has an instant ink program, but I have not signed up for that yet. This machine qualifies for 3 free months and then HP, with a credit card on file when you sign up, will bill you monthly.

I was about to sign up for this, as I have with 2 other machines, but the monthly fee for 1500 pages per month is $25. 99 or $311. 88 over a 12 month time period, which to me seemed quite costly So, I do not believe that I would use that much and therefore, I have not yet made my decision on the program.

There are options to buy ink for less pages per month so I will be considering those options, tioo. This is what I get upset about because it winds up that the cost of the ink outpaces the original cost of the machine.

However, i will state that HP states riight on the box that the HP+ smart printer always requires an internet connection and use of HP original toner. Oh, I forgot to mention that if you do enroll in the instant ink program, you will receive an extra 1 year warranty which will then give you a 3 year warranty, which originally had a 2 year warranty.

If you need quick, high volume, reliable professional-like printing on a smaller scale, then a machine like this is for you, especially since it does not take up too much real estate on either a desk or table surface.

Great basic laser printer at a good price. Appreciated getting “introductory toner cartridge” with the unit so I could test all my connections/set-up right away. I particularly like the two sided printing feature.

The setup instructions were easy to follow. Used the Brothers website for the latest software. Since I have another printer with copying capability, this was exactly what I needed. (This does not have copying/scanning capability.

) “First print” is a little slow, but it then picks up speed. Pleased to find Micro Center sells extra generic large toner cartridges at a good price.

There’s so many features that I love about this printer but the fact that it leaves ghosting on papers is a big negative. I use only brother ink and I have used multiple papers to see if it would fix the problem.

Brother was wonderful and replaced my machine and it still doing it on the new printer. I have a 6200 that does the same thing. Very disappointing.

The HL-L6400DW re-defines the term workhorse. This thing prints SUPER fast (almost a page per second) and the first page is usually out within 10 seconds. It has an extremely small footprint and hardly weighs anything, which makes it practically mobile if you find that you are relocating equipment frequently.

It has an option for a huge (20,000 page) toner cartridge, which also saves us a ton of time. The built-in paper tray holds an entire ream of paper, which is also nice. The print languages and protocols supported by this printer have also made my life easier as a system administrator.

Finally, the drivers that I used for Windows, MacOS, and Linux for our old printer (a Brother MFC-8890DW) worked out of the box for this new printer, so absolutely NO changes were required from a software/networking standpoint.

This was the recommended printer for my business. It was easy to set up. the print speed was fast. So far so good. I enjoy this printer and I highly recommend it. Hopefully I will get a chance go review it 3 to 6 months from now.

The first one I received had color registration blurring creating a color shadow on the test print, probably due to mechanical offsets between different toner cartridges. I returned it and got a second printer.

The second printer printed fine on the test print but the software was a bear to set up (more than an hour with repeated download of software from HP to make it worked). Finally set up but the Apple Air Print format was not correct as it printed two pages on to one paper page (2:1) although it was set up to print 1:1.

Currently, I only print with the USB cable connecting to the printer. The HP quality in hardware manufacturing and software (at least in its consumer products) are tarnishing the once great reputation of HP.

In the last several decades, I have used a lot of HP test equipment such as high speed digital oscilloscopes, pulse counters, medical/chemical test equipment, and PC. This is my worst experience.

After reading the reviews I was a little nervous about this purchase, but I watched plenty of videos, and read how to get past problems during setup only to have almost no problems during my setup. Two things I admit, the device is heavy, so be careful unpacking it, and it seems to be designed more for an office IT environment than home use.

It has significant more security and operational settings than I plan to utilize. The software also seems geared more for Windows users than MacOS users, which I think is why there are so many mixed reviews.

For MacOS/Macbook users: I had issues using the canon drivers similar to the reviews, but I quickly: 1. Added the printer/fax/scanner using the Apple AirPrint drivers vice the Canon drivers 2. Made the device IP address static And since I have had not a single problem all week with the device disconnecting or failing to print or scan from sleep mode.

Originally I set sleep to 60 minutes, but now I switched it back to 5 minutes. You may need to restart the device, but afterwards you can add it through Apple preferences and the Canon MF Scan Utility (Network Scanner Settings) and you can print and scan from the device to computer, or you can print and scan using the MacOS printer preferences, or you can print and scan using the Canon MF Scan Utility, or you can add your Android device and print.

All 4 methods will reliably wake the device. I’m very happy with this product, the speed, the image quality , the look, and the versatility. And FINALLY my ink won’t dry up due to minimal printer use.

The negative reviews are definitely the result of operator error, and less than tech savvy folks being unable to properly setup their device. As an old professor used to tell us, GTS, google that %$#@.

This is the first canon printer I have owned after decades of being an HP user. I finally gave up on HP because of bad customer service and printers that were not reliable and always seemed to have a bug in the drivers.

Things that I love about this printer are that it is really fast on both printing and scanning, even when using double sided. Print quality comes out great. My only two minor comments are that 1) sometimes documents in the feeder come slightly askew when using the sheet feeder.

Not frequent or bad, Just mildly annoying. 2) I wish the settings on the scan software were on the scan screen vs. buried in a settings menu. For example, to name a file something specific you need to go to the settings menu.

However if you don’t change it back, all future scans have the same file name. Same with setting double sided scans. At least these two should be on the top screen. Otherwise, a great product.

Though still early to give a full report on the product, the product was easy to set up following the directions. Because of no CD drive in laptop, I had to download software to install. Installation worked without issue.

I selected the WiFi option. At some point I did have to do several firmware updates which took up some time, but not tremendous. Finding and being able to read the fairly small password to install the firmware was inconvenient.

Make sure you write it down because you will need to provide it in the future for additional firmware updates that I have already been prompted to do. I am guessing full installation and testing out the print job took 45 minutes or so.

But I tend to read most everything and am pretty methodical. The print quality seems fine and is what I was looking for. It will be interesting to see how long the initial print drum lasts for it is just a starter drum.

I bought and received this color laser printer with scanner and fax capability and am impressed with the features and the quality of print that it delivers. The printer supports Apple AirPrint which allows iPads and iPhones to access directly and print photos or documents.

I bought this printer several years ago. It functions well, first time every time. I bought it because I do lots of card stock printing of items I later watercolor so I needed a printer that did not use ink as it is impossible to water color on ink printed copies.

I also like to make colored copies. While the machine is reliable. I have two things I miss a great deal compared to an earlier model that used the original Laser printing process with powered colored laser toners.

That printer from Xerox was considerably more expensive to purchase a bit more work and way more cost to purchase the printing supplies. However those laser color printed items were absolutely beautiful and I could do them very quickly on card stock! Even on the heavier water color printer paper.

The Versa Link C500 is simply not in the same price range nor in the print quality range. However, if you need to simply makes lots of copies that do not need to be extra special then this is the machine for your home office.

The other thing I miss is the ability to always talk to a tech person if I need help with the machine. The chat session way of making customers happy just is not the same a real person and it is huge waste of time to have to type in every bit of the information needed for the Robot helper to figure out what is needed.

It may be cheaper for Xerox but sometimes cheaper is inviting the customer to buy cheap products at a big box store and replace every couple of years. A real Customer Service rep indicates that the company thinks enough of their customers that they supply reps who will talk to the customer to problem solve issues.

I just can’t understand why any company does cheaper customer service only to see that customer never buy from them again? The black print is excellent but the color print toners for the Versa C500 are simply not as good a color quality and not as sharp in print details as the old type of Laser toner supplied.

I purchased this printer for my small business, and am using it to print carbonless forms, pads, etc. I purchased this C400 to replace my smaller HP printer that suddenly began experiencing problems.

I was much happier with my HP printer than I am with this Xerox C400. The quality of the C400 is excellent if you’re printing just a few forms at a time. However, when printing 50 or more forms, the print quality goes out the window.

The print is not crisp, and the colors on the forms look like someone took a sponge and ran it across the form before it dried. I print vinyl labels for some customers, but unfortunately this printer doesn’t print on vinyl.

The ink doesn’t dry on the vinyl and it all comes off on your hands when handling the paper. The ink cartridges are over $200 each and don’t print a fraction of what they say they will. The only good thing that I can say about this printer is that it is fast.

It prints a form per second. Unfortunately the quality is terrible when printing when printing more than just a few forms, so the speed is obsolete. If you’re looking for a quality small business printer, stay away from the Xerox VersaLink C400.

I have had this printer for a few months now and have regretted buying it every day since. Unfortunately I’m stuck with it until I can afford something else. which will be another HP.
