20 Best Laser Printer For Crafting (2023 Updated)

I replaced an older HP printer that has been just a champ for many years. My experience with replacing solid equipment that has reached the end of its life has been mixed at best. So I was prepared for the new printer to disappoint.

Work to be sure, but just not be my old printer. Reviews told me to be ready to have issues loading drivers and getting the computer to communicate with it. That went fine. One reviewer commented it was good but just didn’t feel as sturdy.

It is definitely lighter but didn’t feel fragile or insubstantial. It isn’t any more quiet than my old printer but it isn’t noisier either. And the duplex is OMG amazing!!! I have been manually duplexing for decades and it is worth the upgrade just for that.

The print quality seems fine. I haven’t had to print on anything but 8. 5 x 11 yet, but I am not too worried. So overall, I am pleasantly surprised with this printer.

Overall, this printer is a good value. It prints fast. Does two-side printing. It offers other features, which we don’t use, like document and remote printing. May want to read more on that if you’re interested.

Overall, this thing sets up fairly fast, and has pretty straight forward networking and configurations. The print quality is good. We have seen some issues with mis-feeds from this model, but it’s negligible, considering the price you pay for this.

Overall, I would recommend this. It can handle a small office environment well, for the price. Plus, you can order the large capacity toners. It also works well with quality aftermarket toners, but you may not get a toner reading since they’re not HP OEM’s.

If you’re looking to use this more long term, in a shared environment, I would recommend another printer. This printer could handle the load, but I have my doubts that it could handle it for multiple years though.

Plus, you would want to add the large capacity tray to it.

In the past, for most of our B&W requirements, have relied on Brother laser printers. That is, until the quality and reliability became to inconsistent. Years ago, when HP made laser printer *Tanks*, really wasn’t any other choice.

Sadly, those days are gone…but what is one to do?Took a chance on the M402dn, and can say, after 6 months, we are pleasantly surprised. Duty cycles are probably imaginary, but I can say with certainty, that we print at least 200-300 pages a day, easily printing over 1,000 once a week.

No quality problems as all, and little to no feed issues. One of its better features is the time to first print – easily fastest we’ve every had. I was aware of the feature, but didn’t think it would be that important.

It would be one hard to lose now, having come to love this aspect. Good printer, very economical, and quality is sufficient for our user manuals that we ship out weekly.

ery nice quality prints and copy. The scan option is good also. The initial software set up took about 15 minutes. There is a common issue with the Dell printer hub program that affects your ability to scan from your computer.

What happens is that once you install the software that comes in the CD, the printer hub program is checked off to automatically look for updates. Once it updates to the latest version of the printer hub, it doesn’t allow for scanning and you get a message that says “scanner not installed”.

I had to uninstall the software and reinstall it again and uncheck the automatically update option. To do this you click on the settings or the icon that looks like a wrench and uncheck the auto update option.

Another thing that I notice is that the body of this printer is identical to the brother 2540 and someone online wrote that the toners might be interchangeable.

Laser is much better than inkjet. No annoying colors that cause the whole printer to shutdown until you buy more colored ink. Plus, this is much sharper. Even more importantly, it does not have any LEDs that glow, and doesn’t show up in the system tray as a USB device when plugged in.

It functions as a printer and doesn’t cause issues in windows. Might need a better manual. It appears to have a second output tray you can pull out, but I’m not sure. I’ll probably find an online guide; I may have glossed over the manual before tossing it.

At any rate, totally worth the money. Looks modern, doesn’t have annoying bells and whistles, and it works well.

Once set up, this multifunctional all in one laser printer is amazing. So easy to use and quiet. I am a seller on ebay & Etsy and this machine prints labels and packing slips with ease. The scanner works great and for the price, it can’t be beat.

It does not include an owner’s manual but you can easily download it from Dell’s website. I did install it on 2 laptops; one was a Dell and it installed in a few minutes. The other was a Gateway and it took about a day of frustration but it was well worth it.

The Dell website is where I found my solution to my installation problem. Just have patience and follow the directions and all will be fine. I highly recommend this all in one!.

The printer claims to connect via USB. But USB did not work for me. It was easy to set up as a network printer. Winos 10 found it and installed it without my intervention — easy. Buy an extra cable for connection to your router.

Text print quality is good. Line drawings reproduce well. Photo printing is adequate — the printing density (i. e. darkness) will vary some across the image. The scanner is good — to a point. Small text (starting at ~6 pt) begin to fuzz a little, but is still readable.

Photo imaging is usable. OCR is spotty, but that may be my OCR software. I haven’t used the fax yet.

Before you read my review: One VERY IMPORTANT TIP for people is that if you are setting this up for the very first time with Wifi (as in, you refuse to plug any kinds of cables to your computer), then you MUST ENABLE the wifi on your printer FIRST.

You won’t have instructions to do this from the manual, and you won’t know you need to enable this on the printer itself unless you’ve worked with wifi printers before at least once (or looked through the PDF manual).

Remember, it’s just “enabling” the Wifi on the printer; you do NOT need to connect the printer to your router yet, as the CD software that it came with will set that up for you automatically. Review: This printer is everything my business needs: fax, scan, print, and mobile printing.

I didn’t realize what I had been missing out all these years until I got one for my parents. That is why I had to get this for my business! It seemed like a no-brainer, and I couldn’t go back after using it.

It’s fast, reliable, easy to use, and wifi-capable. The only problem was getting it set up on my Mac, which was the second system I tried to set up in my home office. The first was my PC, which set up without any problems at all.

I wasn’t too concerned though, as I got it to eventually work on the Mac without pulling out my hair, but then again, I am very tech-savy, so my parents would have never figured this stuff out (probably not even my wife and she’s smarter than me on almost everything).

Env: development We purchased this HP 1020 laserjet printer several years ago and have owned HP products before as well. This is a worry-free printer and works like a charm. We have only replaced the ink cartridge 1-2 times and nothing else has ever needed done with it.

It has such high quality and is very easy to set up and use. I would highly recommend this printer for anyone that does not need a color printer. We just use our printer for printing personal receipts, coupons, etc.

and do not need color; therefore, it is much cheaper since you do not need a color cartridge. HP is such a good brand and is always highly rated. You can also print envelopes and do two-sided prints as well.

We are not very knowledgeable on how to fix technology products when there are problems so this item suits us well. It works like it should and you just need to keep the paper supplied and the ink cartridge filled and it will serve you well for quite some time.

You will not be dissappointed with this at all. Performance This printer is fast and works well. We recently purchased an all-in-one printer and it is much noisier and much slower. Most of our printing is just for copies so black and white is fine.

The only problem we had is that it was not compatible with a newer computer so we had to upgrade to be able to print. Other than that, it just keeps working and working with no problems at all. Env: development.

I previously had an ink jet printer which did a great job but the number of pages per minute was very low. It took way to long to print anything more than 10 pages. So I upgraded to this laser printer and was very impressed with the speed of the print jobs.

The paper tray is easy to load and the print outs flow pretty well. I have not had any jamming problems so far and the quality of the print is pretty good though not excellent however, I am satisfied with the quality per the price of the printer.

The cost of the toner was a consideration in selecting this particular model of printer. I did not want to pay more than I did for the printer in ink! It is compact enough and does not require much more than the regular depth of a shelf to sit on.

It powers up very fast as well which is a nice benefit. Performance It is fast and the quality is very good for the price of the printer. Copy Quality I am satisified with the copy quality Ink/Paper Use It is better than I had expected but wish the ink quality could remain dark through out the life of the toner.

Ease of Use Extremely easy to use and would recomend this to a novice user. Durability I have not had any problems with the durablity of this product.

I’m torn because this brand has nearly perfect products, but if my review gets people to buy them they’ll sell out. I’ve never seen a more secure way of storing media. They’re made in England and if you buy directly from them from the US the shipping prices are astronomical.

So hopefully Staples keeps selling these (along with the extra large sizes for records!).

My HP 1320 quit working, so I went looking for a replacement. These are quality business type laser printers that probably sold new in the vicinity of $800? What I like is these printers work fine on remanufactured toner cartridges (no inkjet cartridge printers for me)! I buy the “X” extended life toners which will give me 6000 copies! Bottom line, a refurbished HP Laserjet1320N printer is well worth the purchase! I later found that my older HP 1320 had a major paper jam way deep in the printer, cleared that up and it is working fine again! Not sending this old workhorse out for trash! It went to our closet to remain there as a backup to the one I just purchased!.

This is my first network 1320. Of my previous three owned two are still in service with no repairs necessary. The 1320 laser printer is a work horse. Toner cartridges last a year or more. Print quality is excellent.

Double sided copying helps the environment. I will continue to employ these fine machines as long as nothing better comes along. and so far, nothing of equal or greater value has appeared.

My purchase was a total failure and even I returned it. About the item: the color of the product (the plastic body) was fade and totally differnt from the photo. it was almost turned to yellow, as if it has been under sunshine for a long time.

Test print was ok, BUT, when I tried to download the driver software for my laptop and my wife’s laptop, both failed. Then the printer started to print files one page at a time even without being installed.

So far this printer has been worth it for my family. Each page it prints has crisp text, which is a plus for anyone with vison problems. The step up of the printer is really easy. 1. Unbox and place the printer where you want it.

2. Connect the USB cable to your system and turn it on. 3. Install the drivers. (if you have a home WIFI chose install option #3) This installs the wifi drivers. Once this is done the end user can disconnect the usb cable.

4. Start printing. Note **The install drivers come on a CD, which is hard to believe in 2023. And the installation program can be downloaded from the company’s website for those without a cd or dvd drive in their system.

** Once this printer is connected to the wifi network it can be used from even a mobile phone (without the company’s mobile app) it works with direct print which for me was a plus! Even though that function was not listed on the box or in any of the manuals that came with the printer.

So far I’ve liked everything about this printer, it’s easy to setup and use. even installing the tonner cartage was easy. On the plus side the cost of the replacement tonner cartage is far less than I would have thought $50 – $60 dollars.

If you are primarily printing black and white pages then this printer is the one for you! Inexpensive and a small foot print a plus for small apartments or office’s. (I have it sitting on a small table out of the way) But well worth it to the budget minded consumer.

It is very small/compact but it needs room for all the trays to fold out so you can add paper and it has a place for the output paper to land. So the space saving is nice in theory but impractical. I have used high quality multi function laser printers for 20 years and ‘assumed’ the quality of the print would be pretty good on this one since the technology is mature.

The print quality is not great. Yes it prints, No is doesn’t print fast. The price is attractive but like everything, you get what you pay for. I would say if you dont want an inkjet printer because you rarely need a printer (like me) and you dont care about how well the printed page looks – then this is a good fit ( considering the cost of replacement toner) but for me the print quality is marginal at best and each time I want to print – this think is like a transformer – you need to open up all its flaps etc.

The printer is compact, and appears to be well constructed, and the print quality is good. I was somewhat disappointed that the feed tray sticks out in front, rather than being entirely contained within the printer.

Dust could be an issue. I initially struggled to get it connected via usb, and then getting it to print something other than gibberish. Finally got it working with some trial and error. Devices must be turned on in the right order.

Could use better instructions, or maybe a more user friendly installation wizzard.

A heavenly godsend. I’m a full time graduate student going completely online. I also have personal research projects I work on. I go through periods where I don’t print for months, and out of nowhere I need to print a lot of pages.

Had enough of wasting money on ink that would dry out or have heads clogged so bad I had to buy a whole new inkjet. It was so incredibly wasteful and always left me in a bind when I needed to print something critically important.

I decided I needed a decent laser printer that could lay asleep for extended periods and then print like a beast when the need arose. I print from my MacBook, my iPad, my iPhone without any issue. Setting it up on the network was absolutely hands down the most painless wireless setup I’ve ever experienced.

Doing scans wirelessly is quick too. Do you know why I love this printer? Because it’s no fuss and it’s invisible in the background. When I do need it, it does it’s job reliably and then gets out of my way and disappears back into the background.

One less super frustrating thing to have to worry about. Things I don’t like, the DPI resolution on the scanner is okay, but I’d like to see some ridiculous high resolution because I do scan small documents and photos sometimes.

Printing on envelopes is disgusting. If I didn’t have the self adhesive paper strips on the flaps, the heat from printing would have sealed the envelope closed. The printer also creases the envelope badly.

Extremely unprofessional looking after the envelope has been run through the machine. Those weird quarks out of the way, I print flawlessly on 28lb copy paper, 24lb “parchment” surface, and 24lb 25% cotton linen.

I got my Brother MFC-L2730DW from the shelf at Walmart, since it was the most expensive option. I knew it would be an investment on cost/waste and savings on my sanity. I love it! Buy it nice or buy it twice.

For years i have searched for a single device that can satisfy my needs for scanning, copying and printing as well as faxing. The Brother L2710DW satisfies all those requirements. I would have to say the best feature is being able to copy something with just a button click.

My wife loves this feature! No computer required and you still have control over copy count, density and scaling. Having a wifi network connected printer was a huge game changer for me. No more going to the computer whenever i had to print a document or user manul or woodwoking plans.

I can connect to the printer from the phone and print directly. Another wife pleaser too! Scanning multiple document pages used to take hours using my flat bed sanner. With the new L2710DW i can scan a whole document in minutes using the automatic document feeder.

It was quick and easy to learn. The only feature i have not fully examined is the fax capability. I may need this is the future for business purposes so i made sure it had the capabilty. Based on the excellent performance of the other features, i have no doubt the fax will be just as easy to use and intuitive.

Finally i would like to praise the fixed button specific controls. I have read all kinds of reviews that say that the menu driven single screen is the best format; I disagree! I don’t have to look a tiny screen with a small font on the L2710DW.

The screen is large and easy to ready and backlit and the apllication specific buttons make it super easy to switch between copy, scan, print and fax. This is a huge plus for this is the only office device i have and can quickly switch between features.

I give the printer and overall rating of a 5, even though i have not tested the fax feature. Im sure the fax will not disappoint and will be just to easy to use as the other features. The L2710DW is a real time saver, feature packed, easy to use smart device that evey personal or home office should have.

Replaced a 12 year old HP Laser Printer with this AIO because I needed a new laser and my Epson AIO InkJet was doing bad scans. For some odd reason, laser all-in-ones cost much less than equivalent laser printers.

Maybe it’s the lower capacity cartridges? For home use, this cartridge may only last a few years vs 5 years with a higher capacity one, but it’s still less than inkjet. I don’t give this 5 stars because sometimes the scanner document feeder doesn’t pull the pages 100% straight.

And the image quality on the scans from the feeder could be sharper for graphics. But it makes “kinkos” quality copies most of the time, which is better than inkjet AIO. I have had no issues so far printing from the Mac, Scaning to the Mac, printing over AirPrint, etc.

I have the printer connected via Ethernet. I haven’t tried faxing. One other reason I don’t give this 5 stars is that when it wakes up, it seems to draw LOTS of volts (not Amps). It is so strong that it can cause a voltage drop if connected to a UPS system, causing it to click.

I also have that connected to a voltage regulator, that clicks when the printer wakes up. This is before it prints. So it’s not the fuser drawing this power, it’s the machine waking. I had to connect the printer directly to the wall, bypassing these devices because I don’t want to shorten their lives or the lives of things attached to them.

I am assuming the printer itself is designed for this and hopefully will live a long life. But I have never seen another printer do that to the line voltage, so it is something to consider.

The printer setup on Win 10 Pro 64 bit was very frustrating as HP does not provide a CD and there are a number of choices for downloading software, rendering the process confusing from the start. Once installed and running, the printer and copy function worked well as would be expected from HP and printer output is very good.

A number of network issues were encountered, however, which hampered the the scanning function over the network. I was finally able to get the “Scan to Network Folder” to work after making changes to the anti virus software to allow the appropriate IP addresses through the firewall.

However the Scan to Computer function would not work properly, would not operate the auto document feeder and would only scan a page at a time from the scanner bed. I discovered that each time a print to computer request was made from the printer console, a window appeared on the computer stating a request was received from a WSD device and requesting an action to take.

On a different network computer this window never appeared and the scan request timed out with no way to prevent it. I found no information in the manual that discussed WSD devices and could not find a way to disable WSD.

I did not find any information at all on using the Scan to Computer option in the users guide. Therefore the Scan to Computer function is essentially useless. At best, without automating the process, it requires that one make the request from the printer console and then go to the computer and acknowledge the request and assign an action.

The Scan to Network folder option does operate in a fully automated manner and does operate the ADF, making this even more confusing and frustrating as it would appear they are both similar functions.

This experience has essentially confirmed a common perception, that being that HP continues to build superior hardware but marginal software and support continue to hamper the use of those products. I have owned HP products for many many years and reall want to like this printer but this experience is making that very difficult.

The current drivers for this printer may not work on your computer. Its likely very rare, but be warned, it happened to me. I run a menu application which replaces Windows lost SysTray functionality.

The HP drivers for my HP ColorLaser Jet Pro M252 work perfectly. Indeed, the printer driver should have nothing to do with the menu application. The HP driver for this new ColorLaser Jet Pro M283dfw did not function.

It would not install without various failures reported. The HP ScanDoctor program made the driver work, but erased the menu application which is crutial to productivity patching lost features in Microsoft Windows.

Reloading the menu application causes the M283dfw to stop working. But the ColorLaser M252 drivers have no such problem. The work-around is I had to set up a dedicated computer without the menu application just for the M283dfw and print to that over the network.

In the hopes that HP will fix this, the menu program is BullZip Express Menu, current version 4. 0. 6405. 28375. I tried an older version which I had archived and the HP driver had the same problem. This menu program is to compensate for the Windows 7 [Ultimate 64 bit] elimination of the SysTray feature which meant you can only add shortcuts to the desktop which becomes covered up and inaccessible while working.

I am very disappointed in HP and if I had it to do over again I would NOT purchase this printer but rather try my luck with the M255 in the hopes that driver would not have the same problem. And again, my M252 has never had a problem.

I guess whoever wrote the driver modified DLLs and destroyed their system compatibility. Again, if I had it to do over again I would definately NOT purchase the HP ColorLaser Jet Pro M283dfw.

You will notice many reviews talking about spotting on pages that goes away after multiple prints. We bought 5 of these printers for our business, 3 of them developed this issue. after hours of troubleshooting and RMA’ing parts from brother (i’ve had dental work that was less painful than their support team) I’ve narrowed down the issue to a manufacturing defect in the toner cartridges.

the two of this model that have not yet malfunctioned use an older cartridge that has a solid green handle. the newer printers we ordered have a black handle with a green sticker on them, and the 4 toner cartridges (bought another new one) all developed a toner leaking issue.

I would recommend not buying official brother toner or new old stock with the older style cartridge as the current cartridge they sell has a major defect they don’t seem interested in fixing.

I got this printer because the paper feeder on my old Brother printer wore out. I gave it to my daughter to fix and use, since the rest of the machine worked just fine. After some back and forth with Brother technical support, we determined that the toner cartridge was bad.

This included my scanning a page on my scanner/printer. I guess I was showing off, since it was a Brother brand all-in-one. Brother sent me a new toner cartridge. The cartridge came with explicit drawings and text about removing the old cartridge and putting in the new one.

Now the printer works perfectly, printing two-sided documents cleanly, crisply and fast — oh so fast. BTW — Although I may sound like a Brother fanboi I did my homework before each purchase. Brother is just a good manufacturer.
