20 Best Laser Measure For Outdoor (2023 Updated)

Just got this last week and testing all functions. I liked that it does quick measurements in door for length, area, volume, and indirect calculations. I liked the small size and carrying case too. The buttons sometimes bounce if I pressed lightly and I got two clicks out of it instead of the intended one; making a stronger positive push seems to give a better control.

For outdoor, depending on the sunlight and reflecting surface, I was able to get about 50′ out of it. The biggest problem is trying to see the red dot so I use the side edge of the laser unit as a sight to try to locate the dot; another option is to point to a closer location, then slowly move the dot towards your measuring spot so you can follow the red dot.

Instruction did say this unit is not intended for outdoor use so this is a bonus. The shortest distance it can measure is about 6″ (not mentioned in the manual), but I can live with this and switch to a measuring tape or caliper.

The biggest problem I encountered is when I switch measurement units for the memory data. When I switch measurement unit to M or Ft-in, the stored data display correctly in M or Ft-in. But when I select inches, the stored data displays in meters.

However, the three last active display (not data from memory) switched correctly. Seems to be a glitch in the programming? Will have to call Bosch on this.

Way more than I need, but that is so much better than not having a feature or accuracy that I do need. I have found it to be well within the variances stated. I have not downloaded the software and used the Bluetooth feature, so I have not experienced the frustration others have stated with the programme.

In fact, every programme native on the unit is so easy to use on the colour display, it seems strange that the phone/tablet app would be difficult. I had previously purchased the Bosch 100 ft. Laser Measure and found the display on that unit to be MUCH more difficult to read.

The numbers are larger, in colour, and rotate to make it easier on these old eyes. On that point, reading outside in full light these eyes could not see the laser pointer at 10m (about 30′), but that’s not my primary use (my only complaint with this product, maybe a green laser beam would be easier to see like my laser level).

Excellent display. Real time bright measure. Wish the horizontal angle derived measurement functions were available – It only has vertical. I’ll have to have a triangle app for figuring wall length if there is obstruction at the wall.

The only other device which has everything costs twice as much. Easy to use, it replaces a disto model which does not have the “camera”. Good tool. Remember that there’s a chargeable model for a little more money.

I have had a few different brands of laser measuring tools. I find the Bosch easier to use. Simple things like button location and response to touch just are better on this Bosch tool. Camera and measurement are a great idea.

I still need to use it more to give a more complete perspective on it.

I thought it might be a little overwhelming with the amount of features this has but it comes with really easy to understand instructions. Along with that, it has mini demos of every different way to measure.

The camera is amazing for the bright days outside, no question of where your laser is pointed. I would highly recommend this tool for all abilities and trades.

Great device with a couple of, in my view, design inferiorities compared with the old D2. Bottom corners chamfered I can not figure out why, but corners are crucial referential points. The absence of corners is confusing where exactly the edge is.

The red button got a bit harder to press which when applying stronger pressure needed can result in altering/losing aimed direction by the device being moved. The screen is brighter which is good, hence the shorter battery life, but that is OK.

I bought this D2 after finally managing to break my Leica Disto Classic which I’d had for 18 years and which has earned it’s 300 original cost many, many times over during this time. I found that the D2 did everything my old Classic could do, it’s a quarter of the size & weight, uses half the number of batteries and cost just 129; it fits easily into my pocket.

I used it on a building survey two days after I bought it and it’s paid for itself already. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

The laser itself is excellent: light, precise, not expensive, regular batteries (not built in, which I really hate). On the other hand it has a serious drawback: if the surface is even slightly reflective, it gets stuck, it is not able to take readings.

I work in constructions, with aluminium frames, and it’s a problem, even if the aluminium is mat. In such cases I have to use the more expensive Bosch, or to spray the surface with some mat paint. Maybe I should buy the much better (and more expensive) 7500i, which also has a pointfinder.

Most of the time it does the job, so I’ve got no special complaints.

Super lightweight, small and feature rich. Intuitive and easy to use. Fits perfectly in hand and allows measurement of the tightest spaces with minimal access. Perfect for every as-built condition, renovation, or paint and carpet job.

The free Disto app makes sketching easy but, for the ultimate in floor planning, pair it with Magicplan for iPad and never look back.

I really like this laser measure other than the fact we recently discovered it gives incorrect readings when measured in ‘inches’ mode. When toggling through other methods (feet/inch, feet, meter) they all convert to the correct distance, but for some reason it’s not making the internal conversion to ‘inches-only’ dimensions correctly.

It also seems to increase in margin of error the longer the distance gets. For instance, its only off by less than 1″ when measuring less than 10′, but as you get farther that margin of error increases to 2″ or more.

I will need to remember to avoid using the ‘inch’ function going forward.

Accuracy is spot on, as the other reviewers have said. A manual is available on the web that expands on the small card in the blister pack. I rated it at a 4 because it is basically only useable indoor or at night outdoors.

Any significant sunlight and you cannot read the display, and the laser range goes down to just a few feet. I am currently using it to check room size on houses I am looking to purchase, and it is a great asset.

I would recommend this product for anyone who does not need outdoor measurement capabilities.

I found this very useful. The directions were easy to understand. It was easy to cycle through the different measuring units and I found it to be very accurate. I used it for figuring out square footage.

It is very simple, quick and easy to use. I haven’t tried to use it up to its 165 feet capability but up to 100 feet it was pretty accurate. My only negative comment would be the ability to turn it off due to while holding the button down to turn it off it would scroll through the memory.

I would think that could cause failure of the device over time. I liked that I could fit it into my pocket and then whip it out any time, turn it on point and work! I never dropped it or threw it or anything but it seems to be very durable.

I use it on a daily basis. This is definitely something that I would buy and use. I would highly recommend this unit to my friends and coworkers.

I have a BOSCH GLM 15 but decided to buy the StanleyTLM65 as well. Reason was that Bosch unit does not measure in just inches, eg. 84″ 1-8 will only be shown as 7” 0″ 1-8. I didn”t want to do this conversion every time.

The Stanley device measured in inches as an option. The disadvantage of Stanley device is that the base is not square and not level. It has a slight edge which causes the unit to not stand perfectly vertical when pressed against a surface.

There is an edge which allows the device to pivot causing readings at a slanted angle. This problem was not there in Bosch unit as it was perfectly flat at the bottom. Same issue for when Stanley unit is placed horizontally.

The horizontal edge is not flat either. I think that this really creates possibility of errors due to a non-flat design. Bosch is definitely better. Once you get used to it, it might be ok.

After very infrequent use suddenly stopped powering on. Out of the 1 year warranty so it’s in the garbage now. edit. I see this product is now discontinued. Probably a good thing

I am a Chartered Engineer and Heating, Plumbing and Gas Consultant, and I bought the Stanley Intelli Laser to accurately measure buildings so that I can calculate heat loss etc. The device is small enough for the pocket, very accurate, easy to use and easy to read.

If you haven’t used one of these devices before you may find it a bit fiddly, but the best way is to steady it against a wall or other object to stabilise whilst it reads the dimension. Great piece of kit as expected from Stanley.

Versatile and compact Multi-Tool simplifies odd and difficult measurements I’ve been using this for a few months now and it is now my go to measurement device and with the instructions for how to turn complex measurement in to “no brainer’s” right in the app.

You always have it when you need it. It will find a new home on your belt as your new every day carry (and it is much lighter than your tape measure). That said the more I use it the more I find myself rely on it, and I’m finding new uses for it all the time.

I can say that many times while I have been using it the past few months, I’ve thought about jobs that I have done and think “I wish I had this tool on XYZ Job” or jobs it would have been a huge time saver or given me a simple answer without running out to the truck or grabbing a ladder or needing another person to help get the measurement for a bid or it would have helped me finish the job faster.

I can also remember times when I’ve made simple math errors or got interrupted when I was taking measurements; it would have meant that some of those jobs have been more profitable rather than costing me more time or money from small measurement or calculations errors.

Being able to store my measurements and calculations in the DeWalt app on my phone saves me time being able to retrieve the info quickly when ordering or verifying when I’m picking up materials. Now unless you’re a framer or a roofer more than likely you may just own or mainly rely on a 25’ as your primary tape, you carry on your belt or in your tool box.

Yet accuracy is important as range and this compact tool can measure accurately to 1/16” at 30’ but also gives you the ability to an extreme of 330’ for those of us that are mainly working on residential houses.

While most of my measurements tend to be under 20’ it gives me the ability to measure the height of the house or a multistory building from the ground even if I have a fenced yard with a dog in it that I’m measuring from behind that fence.

Yet this same tool is equally at home measuring a roofs slope as it is in verifying that the plumbing slope is sufficient to pass a code inspection for your Drain, Waste, and Vent installation as it is in helping you mark stud locations when framing a wall quickly measuring from a set point a to be over and over.

When I first received this Bluetooth distance measuring tool I wasn’t sure how it would win against the one I’ve been using for years – (DW03050, DeWALT 165′ laser). The new box contained the laser tool, a wrist strap, batteries (yes they’re included!) and a manual which included drawings to understand the quick set-up.

The full manual needs to be viewed via the mobile app. The app itself is easy to download and sync with the tool. I was a bit confused at first at how to navigate the buttons but figured it out pretty quickly.

I tried testing this outside and kept receiving an error code (E101). After downloading the manual I learned this can happen when pointing the laser to an object that isn’t easy to read (in my case a tree).

I tried a more solid surface and it worked just fine. The Bluetooth features blew me away with how much my phone app could customize my measurements! No joke – this measuring tool does everything. It takes some practice to learn all of the features – but if you’re measuring up rooms or creating specs every day – this tool is for you! Make sure you give it time to play around with the app before you go into using this full-force.

I was overwhelmed with all the features at first so take it slow to begin. It’s worth every penny however. I highly recommend this to my co-workers and anyone who uses a tool like this on a consistent basis.

I loved the look, feel, and available functions however it’s primary function (a measuring tool) is grossly unreliable to the point that I have to pull a tape anyway. About a third of the time I’m getting the E101 error message, even on hard flat surfaces like drywall and steel.

It seemed that it might be very intolerant to varying lighting conditions (as you will have in a real world application). Or maybe my particular model is malfunctioning. Sometimes it seemed to wok fine which would make me think I was doing something wrong, then I’d try it in a different part of the building and there’s the problems again.

The intermittent reliability is almost worse because I don’t know when to trust it. It was holding up my ability to do my job to a point that I had to stop using it. On the positive, I love the inclinometer feature and the level feature.

The phone app is great as well, especially for as-builting a room or when doing a quick quantity take off without the need for writing anything down. The quick Velcro to your belt is a great idea but the Velcro needs to be just a little bit longer.

If you have a thick belt and while you’re in the field trying to get your fingers behind your belt I don’t always get the pouch perfectly flat before the Velcro attached but it winds up only attached by a half inch.

Then when I’m going up a ladder or I bump into something, the pouch is falling off.

I bought this to replace a broken Leica D330. The features are the same. The feature that I like and need the most, is that you can set the precision to 1/16, 1/8 1/4 etc. and has a big bright display.

Although they said it wasnt best suited for bright outdoors, I was hoping the laser was going to be as bright as the D330. I think the 330 was brighter. I could see that laser in daylight over 300. In bright light, this one disappears at 150.

Still brighter than a Bosch and Klein that couldnt hold a candle next to the D330.

A major step forward from my old classic leica, lighter with more powerful laser. and of course the bluetooth , I have now used it in conjunction with the software , it needs a bit of getting used too and possibly will always require additional hand notes , but when using for small projects it wil probably be the norm.

I will be getting an X4 next as the camera would seem to be a useful enhancement.

This is a great laser that works well with Apple products. The battery has good life and would be better if I wasn’t so busy. Cuts down my time measuring and making of mistakes from typing by using the bluetooth feature.

Really like the unit. Memory can not be cleared. It has a rolling 5 spot memory. A user guide would be nice but most items can be figured out. Otherwise a 5 star. Being able to see all measurements on cubes and square after result displayed would also be nice and needed to achieve a solid 5 star.

I bought this in a last minute hurry as I couldn’t find my other laser measure and am very pleased with it. As well as having a greater range than most it has all sorts of arithmetic and geometry functions allowing it to measure things like difference in height, difference in length, height from a distance and many more.

It also has a level built in allowing the clever geometry to be calculated and working as a spirit level. Laser could be much brighter as it is nearly impossible to see outdoors, and the manual is a bit poor though the electronic version of the app once you install DeWalt Tool Connect is more verbose.

Seemed like a good piece of handyman equipment to have in the toolbox, but unfortunately I was in need of a laser level not laser distance measurer so had to return it. Prompt refund service from Mitre 10 New Lynn was exceptional especially where confidentiality and professionalism was concerned.

I bought after seeing one being used. It’s very accurate and easy to use. It has a nice instruction book and a cheat card. Using it is the best way to learn how to use. It has a lot o very nice features.

This is a great little gimcrack. You push a button, laser comes on and you read the distance from target to the butt-end of the thing. Why I bought it: I have a terrific old German folding camera, great lens & shutter, 6 x 9cm negative, simple to use.

The problem was it only focuses properly by setting the distance ring on the lens, expressed in meters. Since you cant directly see the image, and this model has no rangefinder, getting anything reliably focused under 10 or 15 meters is a challenge.

With this little wonder, I put the butt end on the front of the lens, get a distance to the subject and set the focus ring, now accurate to +/- 1/8 (or about +/- 3mm) and snap away. Fantastic!.

This little tool can make your life so much easier. Tape measures are great in some situations. But, if the floor is cluttered or it’s an area that’s difficult to feed a tape into, just put the laser measure flat against the wall and press the button.

It holds your measurements for convenience(2). It is astonishingly accurate as we tested it in many situations against my Fat Max. it never failed to deliver an accurate measurement. This little tool will make your life easier and speed up the process.

But, as always, keep your tape as a backup. It is a laser, so use common sense. I love it and would rate it 5 out of 5.

First of all, I’m an occasional DYI person around my house. Recently, we decided that the next reno project is update the baseboards in our house. Thoughts of having to haul a tape measure around, with helper holding it at one end, me at the other end, in some rooms that exceed the tape measure’s length, didn’t seem practical.

or very accurate. I’ve see contractors use laser measuring devices, but the were always expensive. When I researched online, the GLM 15 looked ‘OK’, with some reviewers saying that Bosch needed to add a couple more features.

Well, the GLM 20 is the answer. It’s easy to use. It’s deadly accurate. It uses regular AAA batteries. It even has a backlit display. What’s not to like?.

I was looking at both the Leica Distro D2 and this Milwaukee 330FT laser distance meter. The Milwaukee is hands down the easiest metering device I have ever used, other than the ones that have the simple 1 button readout.

The Leica on the other hand, had a less than intuitive interface, and from what I gathered from the instruction booklet, it was quite cumbersome to use. I have already practiced on my Milwaukee for length, volume, and area.

Very easy to use! I am also impressed that it works well outside even in bright sunlight. They’ve come a long ways when I bought my first laser meter, especially with accuracy. This Milwaukee unit is very accurate.

Purchased this tool for many reasons. It is very versatile for a wide variety of jobs, and because of that, I always have it on me. In my bags for framing, estimates, and even finish work. The display is super crisp and easy to read in the sunlight as well.

I bought this 1. 5 months ago and haven’t had a use for it until today. Put it in my Milwaukee backpack and when I got to site, the screen was cracked. Thought it would hold up as I put my clamp meter, and multi-meter in the bag all the time and the screens have never been damaged.

Took it to the Milwaukee Service Center to only be told they can’t do anything about it.

Point and shoot. Pew, pew. Bought this for a home remodel and love how easy it is to use. Accurate to my other tape measures. Wish I would have bought one sooner. Haven’t tried it outside or measuring anything longer than 55′-0 foot, but it has served me well thus far.

The level was an unexpected feature and is pretty accurate compared to my bubble and other digital level. It feels flimsier than a Bosch which I’ve used before, but does not feel like complete junk.

You needn’t always take measurements in a LEVEL plane! It’s convenient when obstacles are in the way between walls (eg. book shelves/furniture/paintings). You can measure from the middle-height of one wall, to near the ceiling of another wall (for which it uses it’s built-in LEVEL to triangulate the distance!) Similarly convenient when there is a hollow cavity such as an ARCHWAY and you want to measure from the center height of one wall to the taller beam-height creating the archway (ie.

where a hallway is underneath it. ) Basically, you can be lazy and still have accurate measurements!.

The Dewalt compact laser measure, DW055PL is an easy to use and easy to carry electronic tape measure. The only “limitation” is that it only measures out to 55′. Working in residential indoors, the 55′ has never been an issue.

DW055PL is very convenient as it carries well in the shirt pocket and is very light. Their are times you need to take multiple measurements and the DW055PL makes it easy and fast; I just pull the DW055PL out and measure distances to measure room sizes, distances to furniture and equipment racks.

What used to take several minutes with a normal tape measure (walk to end point, find a point to hook point, walk back while trying not to unhook, then unhook) now takes seconds. Most recently, I needed to help someone plan how to move furniture around.

Have the DW055PL made a huge difference.

I sale industrial laundry equipment and need to measure concrete pads and equipment I do not have to be pin point accurate but it is good to know that the DW055 is very accurate I have double checked against a tape many times and it has been dead on every time.

Hint :I carry post it notes in my computer bag for when I need to measure a flat surface such as across the face of a washer,just stick a post it on the end opposite from where you are measuring from and use the post it as your surface for the laser.

This will also work on walls over 55’ just fold a post it at a 90 then stick it on the wall measure to the post it and write that number down then use your post it as your marker to measure the rest.

This worked perfectly on the last job I did and I didn’t have to fight with a tape or need help holding or marking one end. The DW055 saves a lot of grief since occasionally I need to measure a large area and can’t find a place to hook a traditional tape on or in between equipment where hoses and cables run and a traditional tape gets hung up.

But the thing I like best is I can measure with one hand and write it down without having to constantly find a place to put my note pad down while I measure then go back to my note pad. It may not take the place of a traditional tape on every job and it may not be ideal for everyone but for me it has a permanent place in my sales bag and gets more use than my tape does.

This is the worst named-brand utility blade I’ve ever bought. As most reviewers have mentioned, the locking screw is scratchy but that I could live with. The more serious issue is that the blade tends to jam when one tries to extend it, even with the knob fully loosen.

The only way to push it out more smoothly is to push at the TINY black plastic bit from the blade retention part behind the locking knob. Another totally unforgivable crime is that the 10 spare blades included in the package are NOT the same Carbide Edge blade pre-installed in the knife.

This can be verified by the part number indented on the spare blades: The spare ones are 11-719 blades (the ordinary cheap type with no printed marks) and the pre-installed Carbide one in the knife is DWHT11918, with cool DeWALT and Carbide-Edge logos printed on it.

This is dishonest marketing and is clearly intentional: The package says 11 blades, 88 cutting points up-front, without stating that they are 1-Carbide + 10-Cheap blades. Shameful for a reputable company to sell products this way.

I used this laser measurer when building and installing custom cabinets and bookshelves in my living room. Despite always having a 16′ powerlock tape in my pocket this became my go to for taking measurements.

It is so easy to use and accurate that I wouldn’t trust anything else.

Avoid this item, it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I purchased this item and found that it does not switch on even though I charged the item. It works momentarily only when being charged.

I was not offered a refund.

Just used it for the first time. Back it up to the wall and press the button. It’s that easy. It even takes it’s own length into account. It lets you choose the measurement system –I chose feet and inches.

It works best indoors. It’s limited outdoors by how far you can see the red dot so you can aim it properly. They sell red goggles to help with this but I didn’t buy them. This beats a regular tape measure by far.

I was thinking of buying a 50′ tape measure, but not any more! I recommend this, it’s worth having even for occasional use. If you’re a pro, the 200″ model would probably be the better choice.
