20 Best Ladder For Painting 2 Story House (2023 Updated)

I purchased this ladder a couple of years ago. When I purchased the ladder no other ladders in the aluminum style of this length were readilty available. I need a long ladder to be able to clean the gutters and access the highest section of my roof.

I believe the ladder is of good sound design and quality, however I will state at the hefty weight of 71. 5 pounds, she’s a big heavy ladder. With a wing span of 32′ the ladder’s weight can get away from you if it’s windy outside.

So do be careful. As with any ladder, especially fiberglass ladders you need to verify the health of the ladder prior to each use. After all your life is in your hands. Secondly, UV light will degrade the fiberglass over time, so the ladder needes to be stored inside, out of the weather.

Third, if you store the fiberglass ladder hanging from a hoist system, the longer the ladder, the more hoist points ypu need to support the ladder. I have my 32′ extenion ladder hanging with four hoist points.

With the retraacted length of 17′, I gave a hoisting support on the ladder every 4′. There is a hoist point on each end ring as well as the third and two thirds length. The hoist system has straps from the hooks on the hoist to wrap completely around the ladder, thus hopefully eliminating any twist.

As for purchasing the ladder again, I would, however, most likely wouldn’t. I would purchase it’s aluminum brother, of 32′ extension ladder.

I previously had Werners 2-section 32 ladder and was unable to lean it up against the west side of my house where the ground slopes down steeply away from the house. When I tried to pivot the top of the ladder up, the bottom would lift up off the ground.

Even tying a concrete pier block to bottom of the ladder didnt work;It also lifted off the ground. All I managed to do is throw my back out. So I sold that ladder and bought this one. Im very glad I did.

Even though this 3-section ladder weighs 10 lbs. more than the 2-piece ladder, when its retracted its only 12 long instead of 16 and that makes it so much easier to maneuver. When you extend the middle section, youre having to lift both the middle and top sections together, so I added a second pulley and a longer pull rope to the middle section which gives me a 2:1 purchase and makes it an easy task to raise it.

I also installed Werners automatic leg levelers (PK80-2) which I highly recommend. Even when fully extended, this ladder feels very solid and sturdy.

First, this is a very sturdy ladder. I have used this ladder to install security cameras around our church. It is extremely stable and comfortable when working on the top corners of the building for long periods of time.

The ladder does weigh 80lbs and is best when two people extend it and put it in place. Second, Zoro customer service is very professional and responsive. My purchase was lost in transit multiple times.

Each time the transit company informed me that the ladder was “misplaced”, Zoro customer service sent me a new one using a different company, without any difficulty. UPS was the company that delivered the ladder and it was earlier than I expected.

Pro’s – Extremely Sturdy Con’s – The ladder weighs 80lbs and is best with two people to operate.

Werner Customer Service My model is 1232, not 1332. This is a fair value for a 32′ ladder that works perfectly well. almost. Easy to extend, heavier than some brands, solid, good width. A heavy 16′ ladder (retracted) is cumbersome for one person, but when you need 32′, you just suck it up or have a helper.

My problem was with the ladder-hook flapper. the hook or the flapper wasn’t well made and the flapper cleared the hook by 1/32″. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, but when extended, you absolutely cannot retract the ladder, leaving a 28′-31′ of extended ladder leaning on your work site until you can get a new hook/flapper to put on the ladder while it’s up there around 30′.

Forget trying to lever it down or trying to slide the ladder over to the ground, it will most likely crash to earth and get damaged or hurt someone or something very badly. Werner’s Customer Service (My ladder is a new, first-use ladder, stored well, carried well) is dogmatic excessively process-oriented as Werner will not trust their service rep to use their intellect in judging a warranty/repair inquiry.

I do not own a camera device of any type, and so cannot take & send the excessively large number of required pictures. They assume things which were not claimed. “show us the crack”. I didn’t say there’s a crack.

“How do you transport the ladder”, but then “how do you transport it on the truck”. ??? Huh? The part in question costs them maybe $5 to make. It isn’t working first time out. I’ve used extension ladders for 40+ years.

I have 4 others. In short, what may have been a 4-5 star review becomes a 2-3 star review due to their service and initial build quality-control, which leads me to question the ladder’s build quality, and most certainly their service.

If buying, check that the very few components work properly and if possible extend & retract the ladder in store, check the weight is acceptable for you. Make sure you get a good one because taking it to work/home, then finding something isn’t right, you’re left to deal with Werner.

And that is no fun at all. If it’s a properly-made ladder, Sure buy it. I’ve rented a few 32′ ladders over time, with & without wheels on the top. I installed wheels on this one as a result of those rentals.

Most of those ladders were lighter, one was more torque-prone (not good), all were good. Louisville was one I did like/trust, and now wish I bought, but I chose the more rigid, heavier Werner. and didn’t inspect/try it first in-store.

whoops a $410 mistake they still haven’t remedied.

Just purchased a D1224-2 225 lb- rated ext ladder, and per the following question on the Werner website, also a PK70-1 Quick Click Leveler Kit. Instructions say don’t use kit on Type II, but [otherwise] OK to use on ladders having direct swage construction without bracing.

The following answer to a question on the Werner website states it will work, contradicting the instructions. What gives? Is Wenger saying it will work, but not safely, or are they saying it is recommended but without full rating compliance? “Will the PK70-1 work with D1224-2? answer Customer Care · 5 months ago Model PK70-1 and D1224-2, will work together”.

I am a residential window cleaner and prefer working close to the glass using a ladder rather than use an pole. I have the Werner 24′ extension and it is an excellent ladder. However there are times that it is too tall and it can be tedious to get in and out of houses! I also have some levelers, and stabilizer on it, which does add to it’s weight.

I decided to add the 16′ Werner and it’s perfect! There was no other choice than a Werner for me, as the 24′ is such an excellent ladder! I will add levelers and a stabilizer to the 16′, but it will still be much easier to maneuver.

I will use it at least as much if not more than the 24′ in my work. These ladders have a good stance on their own – I use the levelers only due to the variations of landscape and terrain I deal with daily.

These are very well made ladders, and I took the extra time to specifically order the 16′ Werner in to Home Depot as it is not kept in stock in most locations. Worth the wait. It’s a long-term keeper.

To me, it is a superior ladder.

I’ve wanted this for awhile, and bought it the other day – can’t believe I waited so long. I’ve used it on a couple of jobs already and love everything about it. Super sturdy, light and great as an extension alternative too.

Tons of places to pop bits and tools etc. Little Giant rock.

Every time I use this thing it never ceases to amaze me. The company really thought of everything and the stability is phenomenal. Hanging up Christmas lights, I was able to reach the gutters with ease, knock down some bees nests, use it on the stairs, and reach the top of multiple trees throughout the yard, simply by adjusting positions and heights.

They really thought of everything. The one and only negative thing I can say is that it is heavy. But that probably has to do with why is so sturdy.

This ladder is sturdy, light enough to lift by myself, and the wheels make it easy to move across my lawn from one spot to the next outside my home. I haven’t used it fully extended to get to the second story yet, but I believe it will be easy to configure based on what I’ve done so far.

I feel very secure when on this ladder. One of the rungs was dinged when I got it, but not so bad I needed to exchange it. It fits in my Ford Taurus trunk with the rear seats folded down.

The ladder, at 40lbs and basically two 11 ft. step ladders in one, is a little bulky and heave to move around. It has wheels, but between the angle you have to hold it to get the wheels on the ground and the width of the ends, its pretty difficult to roll it around indoors.

When at lower heights, the steps are doubled, but at higher heights, when the interior extension portion is extended, the remaining steps are narrow, so if standing on them for an extended period of time, I could see it becoming uncomfortable for your feet.

As a 22ft extension ladder it is not as sturdy as a true extension ladder, but I trust it will hold. What I like most about it was how easily it transitions between positions. The locks and latches are easy to adjust and very secure when in place.

My thoughts: When you just need an 8-ft step ladder, this will seem too heavy/bulky. When you occasionally need a high ladder, you’ll be glad you have this one. If you’d rather have one ladder than 3 or 4, you’ll be glad you have this one.

Quality ladder. Very well built and it’s difficult to injure your fingers the way the latch mechanisms are constructed. Very versatile with the latches, the ladder extension, and the one leg extension.

I bought this ladder in July, knowing I would be putting up Xmas lights in Dec and my house is surrounded by river rock and uneven payment. This is the first time I put up lights without someone holding the ladder.

It’s amazing how secure I felt on this ladder. The rubber bottom and the ratchet legs makes and incredible balance. Get the ladder with the ratchet levelers, it’s well worth the money.

I love this ladder! It’s sturdy and safer, compared to the standard six foot ladders I would normally use, as I have an extra foot to reach whatever I’m working on around the house. It’s still a manageable weight and size but so much nicer to use around our home with 9 and 10 foot ceilings.

I like the “pro top” as it’s saved me or my husband from many trips up and down the ladder retrieving dropped items or fetching additional tools that we find we need. The steps are solid and wide enough to avoid foot fatigue or slipping and the bottom shoes sit securely to keep the ladder level.

This is one of my favorite ladders of those we own. It’s handy and well made and keeps this height challenged grandma feeling safe! 8-17-18 – I needed a shorter ladder and found this four foot one available through Warehouse Deals.

I was a little skeptical about it’s description as “acceptable” with numerous “cosmetic imperfections”. I shouldn’t have worried as it’s in great shape (a few minor scuffs) and is just as heavily made as the seven foot one is.

It doesn’t sit completely level though, if weight isn’t on it, but it does if I stand on it. So far, I’m very happy with it and it looks perfect for jobs around the house like washing inside windows and cleaning areas that are a bit out of my reach.

It’s not as heavy or bulky to move about for me either, when I don’t need the taller one. These are excellent ladders, in my opinion.

We have vaulted ceilings and the smoke detectors are sky high up the wall. It was a dangerous balancing and reaching act to change the batteries in them on a 6 foot ladder and now that we’re both old.

we needed something that was safer. This ladder is the perfect length for this and it’s a brand I know and trust. Not too heavy but very sturdy and we both feel very safe on it.

When it comes to ladders I never go cheap. Retired after 45 yrs. in construction I appreciate the extra safety and stability of a higher rated ladder. I only weigh 180 lbs but this 375 lb rated ladder is definitely not over kill.

You can get up on a type 3 ladder and say “This feels ok. It’ll do the job. ” Then you get on a type 2 and you can feel the difference. And then go up to type 1 and the difference in stability stands out.

Value your safety. Don’t go cheap on ladders. I’m very satisfied with this one. Louisville is a top name brand.

I have had an older extension ladder for many years. While I have used it many times I was concerned it was not sturdy enough. With this new ladder there is no doubt Little Giant is far superior in materials and workmanship.

The extension length is just right to suit my needs to wash my house and other uses. I have already used it to hang Christmas lights and found it very easy to get use to operating. Especially on uneven ground as the legs are individually adjustable for such a purpose.

I have not used it as for scaffolding as yet but expect it to be an easy project also. Overall I feel this is a very good value and much safer than my old ladder especially with the flared legs on each end to offer more stability.

Due to the length of this model it is a bit heavy but not too heavy. Also, the wheels can allow one to move the ladder to an area without having to pick it up. They do not get in the way of safe operation either.

It does fold into a length for easy transport. The shipping package was quite suitable for the mail process. I do plan on adding a slight bit of silicon spray to the pins for easier extension release/locking.

Bought this at Black Friday price that couldn’t be beat. As I’ve gotten older, I needed something lighter and easier to work with than my 32′ fiberglass extension ladder. Sold the ext ladder on CL, offsetting most of the cost of this more versatile unit.

Have just used it once, but found it much easier to use and move around by myself. At full extension it is a bit more wobbly than the extension ladder, I plan to purchase the stabilizer attachment. Plan to use the scaffolding option to finally repaint my open concept kitchen/den (20′ ceiling peak).

Pretty easy to move around, and can store it easily on my screen porch for easy access (as opposed to the 32′ ext ladder sitting in the back yard. I’d recommend it.

Bought this for my husband because he NEVER replaces his old stuff. Wow was he amazed! It’s sturdy, super-adjustable and even I can wheel this baby around. I also bought the work platform that goes with this ladder.

So much better and safer than any ladder we’ve owned before!.

Ladder is top notch Louisville quality. I only gave 3 stars due to packaging, or the lack thereof. Ladder is a fathers day gift. Shipped with no packaging at all. Was a little scuffed up, not bad, but had to spend 15 minutes peeling shipping labels and tape off ladder, and then clean the sticky residue off.

Boxes are not that expensive.

This is an awesome ladder-especially for us shorter folks! But, even if you just need to reach a few feet higher-to hang a picture or sheetrock, or wash a window, or change a lightbulb-this is so handy to have and it’s easy to move and store.

Absolutely LOVE this ladder. We have 10′, 12′ and 14′ ceilings. My wife ordered a 12′ ladder me for Christmas. couldn’t stand it up in some of our rooms! Back it went. this 8′ ladder is so perfect and sturdy we can stretch and reach light bulbs in the 14′ rooms! Light weight too, even my wife can carry it!! A+++++ :O).

Bought this as a gift. something my husband asked for. to replace a 40 year old wood ladder. This is light for an 8′ ladder plus the design is great. Safe to use leaning against a wall or pole (we’ve not tried that one yet) it was very sturdy against a wall though.

So, when opened as a ‘regular’ ladder it’s SUPER sturdy, has oversized feet and the ladder is a bit wider, great treads and supports 300# but I’d bet it’s safe for even more than that. just my opinion.

It’s unique design at the top allows you to get closer to your work and the top is thoughtfully designed to hold some tools. My husband was SO pleased with this PLUS when I was researching ladders I saw that this was made in the USA.

The ladder is very good. Stable, good height for around the house, fairly light weight and nice innovative design. The latching system for the legs makes it a little hard to open. Disappointed in the way it was shipped and the condition it arrived.

No packaging of any kind. The ladder looks used, not “New” as stated. I’ll keep it because functionally it works, cosmetically it looks bad and it is to much of a hassle to send back. I’m not sure I’ll order from ZORO again.

First, I would like to say that I love this ladder. If so, then why the one star rating? The ladder had 1 leg shorter than the other and we found it unusable for that reason. Zoro customer service was top notch and provided us with a refund immediately.

They told us to keep the ladder and we subsequently donated it to a local charity (they were made aware of the defect). We didn’t want to purchase another but do love the design and functionality.

not 8ft tall when open like specs say. 8ft~ closed length. these specs should reflect overall dimensions so someone can put in a bed of a truck and know exactly how long it is. also i cant use the AC52-UB bucket with this top like i thought i could.

the protrusions don’t slot into the ladder top.

After only 5 months the rivets in the top started popping out. The pale shelf is clumsy, in the way and often binds. I attempted to return it only to find there is no warranty. Will be my last Werner purchase.

My husband bought this ladder after we moved into our new home and its the best ladder ever. This ladder has a spot at the top of the ladder to hold all of his tools, paint cans and all other necessary items in completing a honey dew project.

I am so excited as I am no longer needed as a day laborer to hold tools or hand tools while he is on the ladder as all of this is accessible to him. This is a fantastic ladder! Very sturdy. Very usable. I have a similar 10-ft, but it’s too tall for my current garage rafters, so it’s a pain to use. Going to the 8 foot was just the right thing!

I purchased this ladder to install overhead lights in my workshop. It has a vaulted ceiling and the higher hang heights were right at 16′ requiring regular use of the highest recommended support rung.

I’m not afraid of heights but don’t really like them either. I was confident on this ladder, it was very stable at maximum height. Well built with rivets, bracing and special features. It didn’t sway or wobble or make those weird creaking noises that make you wonder if it will hold up.

The Werner Glidesafe ladder is one of the best that I have used. Previous ladders I have used were shaky when doing roofing work and a few weren’t very stable. The Glidesafe ladder has resolved these problems.

The ladder has wide feet to help with stability, a lock to keep the ladder at the desired height, and both of these features assists with ladder shaking. Also the Glidesafe also has the feature to add a walkthrough to the top of the ladder, which also makes this ladder an excellent product.

As a homebuilder, I see and use a lot of ladders on my job sites. I tend to lean towards Werner ladders (pun intended), due to their long lasting quality line of ladders. I took this ladder to one of my sites and used it to access a porch roof.
