Ever try to get two dissimilar lines tied together only to end up with lines that pull apart or a gobbed up mess that won’t readily slide through the guides on your pole? This tool will, with a little practice, give you nice strong knots that will not unravel when the “big one” gets hooked.
It even makes changing flies and hooks an enjoyable process because of the strong attractive knot you can produce with ease each and every time. You might even find yourself walking around looking for other fishermen changing flies so you can show them how easy and safely it can be done.
Safely! I haven’t mentioned the safety measure of using this tool. I’m sure many, probably most, and possibly all of you have stuck yourself with the point of a hook when tying it onto your fishing line.
Ouch!! Makes me wince just mentioning it. This tool CANNOT eliminate the care one must use when handling sharp objects, but the dangerous point of the hook, (sorry, NOT treble hooks), is placed inside the handle while making and tightening your knot.
The hook only comes out when your finished and ready to put the hook into action hooking what is supposed to be hooked. A FISH!.
I was a little confused with the direction given with the tool, but I went to their web site and watched their video, and it all came together. This is one great knot. I’ve made some trout snell rigs for the small fly fishing worms that I use.
I’ve caught fish while no one else was catching any. Tying small fly hooks with this tool is a snap. I’ve showed this tool to some of my bass fishing buddies and they were impressed, especially with the strength of the knot, and it’s adjustability to let the lure move freely between the knot and lure.
It only takes a few seconds to tie a knot with this simple device. If you don’t get one, It’s your loss. I’m 70 yrs old with stiff fingers and failing eye sight, so this tool allows me to tie knots without any aids.
Really! This makes knot tying too easy. If I lose this one, I’ll buy 5 more! Get one for people just starting out with fishing. They will love you for it! Even if they already love you. They’ll love you More! Can you tell I like this tool?.

Love this item. My poor eyes finally get a break. Drop this on the ground no problem, built like a tank. Delivery a+++. Packaging a+++. Also pictures don’t show the lanyard ring. It’s there and built to last.
Makes tying on flies a breeze. The smallest flies can be threaded, where as before I couldn’t see the eye let alone thread it. Tying a clinch is super fast and easy. Tying a nail knot is a breeze. The size and shape make it very comfortable to use.
I was disappointed with a couple of the cheap tying devices, but this is worth the extra money.

One of the most useful tools on my vest. Even for an experienced knot tier this is a great tool to have on hand especially during cold weather or for extremely small flies. Tying a knot shouldn’t be something that you struggle with, the goal is to get your line back in the water and that’s what the knot Kneedle helps you do.
From the first time angler to the experienced pro, I fish with both and have seen first hand the value of this tool. Well done and well thought out design.
My oldest brother gifted me one of these after I had a stroke on May 5th. I know us fishermen are known for exaggeration but this is the truth it was taking me anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half to tie one jnot.
With this tool it’s like having an extra hand. Still takes me longer than it probably should, but not nearly as long as it was.
I got one for my son and one for myself. This cool thing helped both of us. It is really easy to use and is faster than using only my fingers. I would definitely recommend to anyone! Shipping was fast too!.
The Cinch Tie knot tyer is must have tool for every fisherman. Take the hassle out of tying complicated fishing knots and turn out perfect knots again and again. The machined brass and stainless steel construction of the Cinch Tie ensure this tool will last a lifetime in all fishing conditions, both freshwater and saltwater.
The older I get the harder it is to tie good knots. Decrease in vision and finger dexterity make it particularly difficult to tie a strong not. The Knot Tyer is very well made with what I do believe, as advertised, is brass.
It has the weight of brass and not just anodized or painted pot metal so it feels like you are using a well made precision tool. Does it work? Yes, but it is harder to use than the videos on YouTube make it look.
I got the tool a couple of days before a fly-in to Canada. My plan was to have it on the boat with me for quick repairs. I realized very quickly that I was going to have to practice a little more than the time I had allotted to become proficient.
The knots I did get done pre trip were strong but there are a few nuances to figure out. I’ll get them all sorted and the next trip I’m sure I’ll give it a “5”.
I bought this tool in the eighties and give them away as gifts to friends and family. I learned to use this tool as a kid and it has served me well for 30+ years. I still have my original tie tool. The addition of the nail knot tip is great.
While waiting for the lakes to freeze over i started to play with this Newly purchased Knot Tyer. I pre-tie my ice fishing leaders. So each leader is set up for different colors and weights. I pre-tie everything up in a warm building so at the ice fishing hole I keep my gloves on long as possible and stay warm.
So i tied up several leaders last night. Super Easy system very fast and reproduce exact results. Now with cold, and over sized fingers i can tie the super lines of small diameter. super easy. over all impressed.
A leader with a tippet ring turns over perfectly, and they are light enough to use when fishing dry flies. Just tie the tippet ring to a leader with a clinch knot, and then add the required tippet in the same way.
Tapered leaders last longer with a tippet ring as the leader will not be shortened every time the angler replaces the tippet. Tippet rings also make it extremely easy to add droppers, and are an excellent choice for European Style Nymphing and for Indicator nymph fishing.
Been on the river 4 time now and still using the same leader with the same tippet ring. They are small, float with the fly and unnoticeable. Absolutely had no impact on strikes and hook ups. These tippet rings will save you dollars and dollars on tapered leaders.
The RIO Powerflex Tippet Guide Spool is made from a high tech co-polymer material, giving it excellent knot strength. A PTFE coating protects from abrasion, while giving it elongation (stretch) properties that average about 26%.
Available from 7X to 0X, the Powerflex is perfect for all species. Its light grey color provides superb camouflage in the water. RIO Powerflex Tippet is a high knot strength copolymer nylon tippet Powerflex tippet has a PTFE coating that makes knots slide up super tight, without damaging or crinkling up the material.
It is a light grey color that enhances its camouflage ability on the water. Available from 8X to 50 lb, Powerflex is ideal for all species. Features superb knot strength, stretch and suppleness to make this the finest nylon tippet for almost all trout fly fishing needs.
This was the tippet that made the difference. I wouldn’t have caught any fish with a different brand, LOL. Really, it’s a tippet, it did what it’s supposed to do. But I did learn that these tippet rolls can be snapped together.
I learned that from a fishing guide in Montana. Helpful.
I bought this product brand new and took it on a remote fly fishing trip. This tippet caused me to lose every fish over 12 inches. I lost 2 fish that would have been my personal best because of the failures of this tippet, I know my knots were good and once I figured out my tipper was bad I borrowed a friends tippet.
After that I was not losing fish and all my flies.
I’ve been fly fishing for 20 years and have used many different brands of tippet material. I bought two Rio Powerflex spools of different size. Both were terrible. The line broke easily, twisted and tangled, and frayed constantly.
It is terrible stuff. It is not even suitable to fish with. Save yourself some money and frustration and buy a different brand.
The Ty-Rite Junior Tool makes tying flies onto your leader much easier by holding the bend of the hook while you tie in. It allows you to tie a cinch knot with ease and is great for medium to smaller flies, hook sizes 14 to 22.
No more hooked fingers! No more dropped flies! Attaches to lanyard! Made in the USA!.
This product, which allows one to hold on to tiny hooks and tie some basic knots, is a winner. It has joined the other tried and true ‘winners’ that live around my neck on the lanyard which accompanies my fly fishing trips.
(Someday, again) Go to a fishing store and try it out. You will buy immediately. For gosh sakes; it only costs about $10. 00 Just take my word for it and buy it anyway.
Cold hands, dim light, failing eyes? Your knot tying troubles are over with the TYEPRO! Absolutely the best tool in your tackle box! Trying to tie or re-tie in the wind while the boat is rocking is no problem! Once youve used the TYEPRO youll be its greatest salesman!.
Went out to whip some fish today and had a chance to try the Typro. I have the small fly size. It made tying on the little chironomids was a real pleasure. I normally have a hard time putting the fine tippet material through the bitty eyes on the flies.
I does a great job of tying a clinch not if you lie to use them. most of the battle is just getting the tippet through the eye. A bonus is the very sharp nipper. This one gets five gold stars.
Frog Hair Tippet and Leader material is superior because our material is subjected to GAMMAs propriety process. The process produces a material that offers exacting tolerances, super high tensile and knot strength and up to two times the suppleness and shock resistance compared to all other brands of tippets and leaders.
For the angler, Frog Hair provides a more natural presentation with more hook-ups and a line that generates maximum fish fighting capabilities. Frog Hair Products are truly your new, competitive advantage.
Very great product, the best i have ever tried ( so far ). It works great even after a some seasons , seems like it never gets to old. ( my first one is like 3 – 4 years and still same strength ) and the ones i have bought in lokal stores seems like they loose the strength the moment i step out of the door.
OrvisSuper Strong Plus Tippet is the ideal all-around freshwater leader material. The knotted strength of the Super Strong is higher than any other nylon material, meaning when that big brown chomps on your hopper, you can finish the fight without fear of breakage.
Abrasion resistant for toughness Blend of elasticity, knot strength, and suppleness for perfect balance.
I already submited a review. but I had multiple purchases. I tested several major brands of tippet to see which ones would hold the best knot strength. I tied the perfection loop, and the surgeons knot.
Orvis Supper strong plus held the highest knot strength hands down. The regular Orvis Supper Strong, did not have the knot strength necessary to be in my tackle, it had to be the PLUS.
first time using this line during trout openers this year. I was unable to land a single fish due to the line giving out and snapping, lost roughly 12 fish. I purchased my usual 6lb test for rainbow trout fishing, but your line felt alot more like 3-4lb test line.
Never buying this tippet again and am sticking to raven line products. ruined my trout fishing experience.
There’s a reason they call this “Super Strong”, because it is. I do a great deal of my fly fishing in a river that has a very stony bottom. There has occasionally been times that I have gotten my leader snagged on rocks, and more often than not while trying to un-snag, either the leader, or tippet will be cut, and I end up losing a fly.
I then read about Orvis Super Strong leaders and tippet, and decided to try them instead of the brand I previously was using. After switching to Orvis, my salvaging a snagged leader and fly has greatly increased.
I’d also like to give mention to how well the tippet will hold a knot. I highly recommend this product.
With its low visibility olive tint, Umpqua’s co-polymer nylon tippet material is an almost flawless marriage of great tensile strength, elasticity, suppleness, and abrasion-resistance. The result is a tippet material of superior WET KNOT STRENGTH that remains supple enough to allow a fly to really “swim”.
Matches perfectly with our Trout, Power Taper, and Bass/Panfish leaders. Image shown is representative of the pattern only and may not reflect actual colors or size.
The Tie-Fast Combo Tool combines the Tie-Fast Knot Tyer with a heavy duty line clipper, an eye cleaner, a hook sharpener and a D-ring to use for easy attachment. The knot tyer will help tie a variety of knots including the nail knot.
The clipper jaws are razor sharp and can be re-sharpened. This tools finish is the dull silver stainless steel which doesn’t have glare that could spook weary fish. Clean-out needle to clear hook eyes.
An excellent clipperEasy-to-use nail knot toolTungsten carbide.
I have tried several different tools and this is the one I am sticking with. I had the Large Tie Fast tool and loved it but still had to carry snips and eye needle. When I saw this I had to try it. This is the must have tool for on the water.
Light, easy to use, and sharp nippers. Take the few minutes to learn to use the tying tool if you aren’t familiar with it. Watch a couple youtube videos, they really simplify what may seem a little confusing in the written directions.
The tying tool makes good knots simple. This is definitely something I would buy again if I ever lose mine.
I love this tool for three reasons. First, I use a lot of braid and fluorocarbon and the razor sharp clippers allow me to cut the tag end very close and without fraying. Secondly, I suffer from psoriasis and several years ago I caught poison Ivy on my hands.
Once the poison ivy went away, the psoriasis moved all over my fingers and joints (there’s some kind of fancy name for that condition but I can’t remember the name much less to try and spell it). It took two years to solve that problem but it left my fingers with virtually no feeling.
Have you ever tried to tie a 100% fishing knot in the middle of a river with virtually no feeling in your fingers. it’s tough. This tool allows me to easily tie several very strong knots in 5 to 10 seconds that normally would have taken me a minute or two of fumbling around.
The third thing I like about this tool is that they combined the clippers and the knot tying tool into one tool. As a bonus you also have an eye cleaner and a small file for sharpening hooks. I would love this tool at twice the price and would give it 10 stars if I could.
Tippet Rings Change out your leader or tippet effortlessly with our Fly-Fishing Tippet Rings. Tippet rings make attaching tippet or leaders quicker and easier to switch out and change. Small metal rings made of stainless steel.
Simply tie one to your butt section and tie your tippet to the ring. No more complicated knots. Imported. Sizes S (5⁄64 2mm 17lb. test), M (3⁄32 2. 5mm 26 lb. test), L (⅛ 3. 1mm 35 lb. test).
I now use tippet rings on all my setups, from large salmon fishing rigs to the tiniest size 24 dry fly fishing setups. The Orvis rings are the best I have found, they are round diameter wire rings, not stamped out of a flat piece of steel and polished.
You need to have round wire rings, otherwise the rings can break your tippet when trying to tie it on from the sharp edges on the ring. Helpful hint: Tie the tippet ring to the leader end first while the ring is still on the swivel, DO NOT try to remove it from the swivel then tie it on, you will end up dropping it and losing more than you successfully tie on.
Leaving it on the swivel to tie it on makes it faster, easier to tie on, and much more secure. Just tie on the one closest to the swivel opening, and slip it off after it is tied on the leader.
After watching a video of Tom Rosenbauer talking about he benefits and how he uses with streamers I decided to purchase and try. Have been very pleased with the product and highly recommend. The staff in the Raleigh store is fantastic and incredibly helpful.
Super easy to use. These make it easy to replace the Tippet section of your leader without using surgeons knots, which end up shortening your butt section each time. Can also be used to have dual Tippet sections at the same time, or for connecting multiple flies at once.
RIO Toothy Critter Hand-Tied Leader’s wire shock tippet resists razor-toothed attacks from pike, bluefish, barracuda and other similar species. Powerful butt and tapered leader makes casting and flipping larger, water-slapping flies easy.
Nylon-coated, braided, bronze-wire shock tippet has a supple feel for knot tying.
I’ve found that the leaders are invaluable when fishing for Stripers in inshore waters underneath and along side schools of Blues. The fine wire does not inhibit the Stripers from striking and prevents the loss of valuable flies when the Blues do take the fly before it gets down to the Stripers.
The Cortland Slip-on Braided Leader Loops, Clear, 30-Pound Test, 601253, are our ever popular and convenient way to connect your fly line to a leader without knots. Simply slide the non-loop end onto your fly line and shrink with heat to ensure proper connection.
The loop at the end allows you to quickly change leaders as needed with less knots needing to be tied. Perfect when combined with the Cortland Fairplay Pro leaders.
Found hanging from lanyards and in drift boats all across the world, the Tie-Fast Knot-Tying Tool will have you tying nail knots in seconds. From seasoned guides to first-time anglers, nail knots will become an afterthought with this perfectly designed and extremely handy stainless steel nail knot tyer tool.
When you have to try a leader onto braid or just need to replace a tippet section, this knot tying tool will save you time and frustration. First, it allows you to quickly connect leader sections even in strong wind conditions.
Second, it ties knots with subtractive loading, meaning the knot tightens as a fish pulls. Versatile portfolio of knot types as well…. Great value!.
I’ve been using the same slip knot (5 turns then back through the hole) since I was a kid: 73 now. Mostly it worked but occasionally failed and weakened the line. It had its limitations and so I wanted something better.
At my age fat-finger shakes and ageing eyesight make things more challenging. So. “Tie-Fast Knot -Tying tool ” it was. And I am so glad. This tool improves with practice so do not give up on it. now I am tying braid to nylon, heavy duty nylon to trace line and attachment to swivels and hooks is is a doddle.
Put one in your Xmas stocking. if you can wait that long!.
I am fairly new to the sport, and mastering the various knots has not come easily to me. I have been baffled by various guides and friends, watching how easily they tie knots and handle light tippet, and being taught how to tie a nail knot by your ten-year-old niece isn’t exactly an ego building experience for an aspiring fisherman.
Purchasing this knot-tying tool was one of the best things I could have done. I can tie various knots utilizing the tool, and the hook latch area keeps your fly in place without it fluttering around in the breeze and tangling all over the place.
I now spend more time out on the water (or in the nearby willow bushes untangling my line) and much less time fumbling over knots and rigging flies! An excellent product which will save time for even the most experienced angler.
The Orvis Tippet Tool is made to organize and carry your tippet spools. This anodized machined aluminum tool is strong, lightweight and functional and holds seven spools of tippet. You can attach the tippet tool by the carabiner clip or provided rings.
I used to have something like this that I rigged together with a few of those keychain type bead things, but it failed one day dumping my tippet spools in the drink. I’d thought about getting a proper tool like this before, but the last time out, I dropped my tippets out of my vest (was able to recover them thankfully) and I swore I would buy one of these.
I’ve become a huge fan of Orvis tippet lately (because of the quality, line cutter and bungie) so this was a no-brainer. Goes together perfectly and seems to work with other brand tippet spools. I like the neoprene washers that slide w/ a friction fit to keep the spools together.
I found out about this after I broke my old plastic tippet bar. It offers a few advantages over the old one: it’s aluminum so it’s less likely to break; it’s lighter weight; the rubber stoppers are adjustable so your spools won’t shift around; and the S clip could be replaced if it ever breaks.
Since the old tippet bar was a single, solid piece of plastic you would be out of luck if you cracked it. Overall I’m pleased with the improvements and have more confidence in this tool to do the job.
I bought this tippet bar a couple weeks ago from Orvis. I really like how it is light weight and fits perfectly with the Orvis Sling Pack. My only dislike is that the carabiner is made of plastic. It should hold up to its use but I felt that Orvis could have attached a carabiner made from the same material as the tippet bar.
All in all, it serves it purpose and I’ll probably never need to buy another tippet holder again.
Formulated for suppleness, our Cabela’s Trout Tippet works well in a variety of fly-fishing situations. Count on this affordable tippet to tie solid knots and hold fish. Formulated for suppleness Works well in a variety of fly-fishing situations Ties solid knots and holds fish.
Let me caveat by saying I’m new to fly fishing but have been trout fishing for years. This tippet seemed quite stiff and did not hold a knot (yes I know how to tie my knots). I lost two flies as soon as I hit the water.
Cut this off and tied on mono. Never had another problem. I will try this one more time the next time I am on the water but do not have high hopes. I can honestly say this is the first and only bass pro product I have been less than enthused with.
Purchased this after reading the reviews, and agree that this is a very good product. and the price makes it even better. I used it for the first Columbus Day weekend, and landed numerous salmon and brown trout.
The biggest salmon was 19 pounds on 8 lb test. The 8 lb tippet was pretty frayed after being pulled over and around rocks in the stream by the salmon, and yet held until I was able to land the fish. Also landed a couple over 14 lbs on the 6 lb test.
In addition, caught two brown trout, 11 lbs 3 oz and 11 lbs 12 oz, on the 6 lb test. Very impressed by this product, and will definitely buy more for my next trip to NY in 2 weeks.
Just got back from fishing for Lake Erie tributary steelhead. I broke off about 10 different steelhead on the 4x-6lb tippet. This should have been more than adequate for these fish as I’ve used much lighter tippet in the past, but the water was stained so I stayed with the 4x.
Sometimes I wouldn’t even get past the initial head shake. All broke at the knots. I used uni’s, polymar, and improved cinch and it didn’t matter. Maybe it was a bad batch, or it was an old batch. Probably should have stopped somewhere to buy fresh, but thought maybe it was something I was doing wrong.
Either way, i’ll not get it again. The plus side is that it was very supple and easy to work with.
Innovative 13′, 2X multicolor knotless leader uses color to allow the angler to see and follow the leader when nymphing. 12″ of bright orange butt section, with a perfection loop for easy connection to fly line, changes to an opaque white.
The last 2′ of the leader is a tri-color 8″ of orange, 8″of chartreuse, and 8″ of white. The bottom is finished with a 2mm tippet ring which allows easy addition of desired tippet. The leader is knotless save the perfection loop at the top and the tippet ring at the bottom.
The product works fine. But I will say for the area I fish I wish it was about 7 feet longer. I find that I constantly am getting the perfection loop at the end caught in guides which causes a lot of issues when I am trying to manage the depth of my line.
I tried with my friend’s 20ft leader and had a significantly easier time. I find that the only time I prefer this shorter one is when I am getting it further out away from me on wider streams. The length allows it to cast really well with only a short amount of line out.
I would also love a different color than white for the last section of sighter material. Would help me significantly to have another high visibility color.
It’s a nice leader but watch out for snags if you fish a very rocky stream. I caught a deep snag and broke off the sighted and ring section of the leader. I tied a loop on the end and added a section of the Tactical Sighter with a loop on one end and a ring on the other.
If you tie a loop and ring to the sighter material, put a dab of superglue on the knots.
Ditched my indicators for this product, which my buddy calls a “skinny indicator. ” I had never tried Euro-style nymphing, but I’m glad I did. It was effective even on my 7. 5′-3W (too short) and 9′-5W (too stiff) rods.
Still prefer swinging dries, but a 10′-3W paired with this product is certainly in my future for when I need to go deep. Too bad they don’t come in various lengths (or colors).
Aquateko’s Knot 2 Kinky wire is a superelastic alloy which can be stretched and bent at least ten times more than ordinary steel leaders without permanent deformation. The perfect formula of Nickel and Titanium alloys creates a superelastic property which allows a fish to apply an enormous bite.
The Knot 2 Kinky wire stretches and recovers while steel leaders snap under the same conditions. Knot 2 Kinky wire really does have programmed memory to stay straight. The laser straight memory is created by restraining the material in exactly the shape required (straight, of course) and heating to a temperature above 932°F (500°C) for period of time.
There simply is no other line that is straighter than Knot 2 Kinky wire. What angler hasnt experienced frustration, both inshore and offshore, using steel leader because of the constant kinks and bends which cause baits to swim improperly? It seems the steel leader is only good for one catch and then left the wire with a ton of bends and kinks.
No one wants to sit on a rocking boat trying to re-tie or change rigs when the fishing is on! Now you can cast your bait back in the water and catch another! With Knot 2 Kinky wire your day starts and ends with the same leader.
This wire might be good for other uses, but it didn’t work at all for my purpose. I wanted to make wire leaders to cast flies among bluefish. This wire springs back straight so it wouldn’t hold in a haywire twist at all.
I tried one or two knots I’d tie with regular mono line but the 35 lb. wire was too thick to really tighten down well.
This is a great leader when fishing for bass in toothy waters. I have caught a lot of muskies while fishing for bass. The leader also resists abrasions when dragging a jig on the bottom over rocks. Knot 2 Kinky is so thin that the bass don’t feel a difference from it compared to fishing line.
I caught literally 100’s of Northern Pike on the same leader. Most were 22 to 29 inches. Some were 30 to 36 inches. I had absolutely no problems! I recommend it highly. It is some what expensive, but it is very flexible and small diameter.
