20 Best Knife For Personal Protection (2023 Updated)

In my view at least, this is really the perfect EDC knife. It’s slim, being a two layer knife, and also surprisingly lightweight. You don’t really feel it in your pocket, especially if you add a pocket clip to it (Key Smart is my recommendation).

It also has the classic SAK look that makes people comfortable when they see you about to use it for something cool. So, The knife is classic drop point. Holds an edge well and is easily sharpened. The combo flathead driver/philips/bottle opener/can opener/wire stripper is a revelation.

Highly useful in all but the can opening IMO. The can opener aspect does work, but it’s definitely more for emergencies. This complete tool also makes a good littke pry bar. The scissors are top tier.

They are sharp, reasonably big, open up wider than most similar scissors. The also cut the same whether by the tip or fulcrum, and readily cut through slack materials as well. The tension bar probably won’t last forever, so having a back up isn’t a bad idea.

I’ve actually used the parcel hook more or less for its intended purpose (firewood instead of newspaper though). I also find the little nail file on the back of the bar to be a daily use item, and the bar itself can actually lock the pen in place, making it easier to write.

I mostly use the corkscrew to loosen knots and to hold the included eyeglass driver along with a tinder twist from Tortoise Gear, which I’ve also actually used. It’s handy. The pin included in the slot under the corkscrew has been useful for removing sim cards and such.

The toothpick I replaced with a ferro rod. The tweezers work well. The pen is maybe a little difficult to manipulate if you don’t use the abovementioned trick, but it’s quite useful regardless, and a really nice addition overall.

Yeah, I feel confident that I can tackle a lot of day to day things with this one. Lot of utility in a small package. It’s my daily carry.

I am NOT an outdoorsman. I rarely leave my city. I work in an office. I do go on hikes from time to time. I have never needed a saw , but I often need scissors and Victorinox makes GREAT scissors. I thought I would not use the corkscrew but once I ordered a Victorinox eyeglass screwdriver that goes in the corkscrew it made the corkscrew very important.

I like the hook for getting leverage when pulling on a string or wire, or carrying paint cans. I use the small blade for opening packages and everyday cutting but save the large blade for heavier work.

The small screwdriver works as a Phillip’s in a pinch and the large flat head is always great for prying things open or to scrape at things. I use the Reamer/awl for scraping, or pocking holes in many things, and the tweezers are a MUST.

I dont use the toothpick for teeth, I use it for getting at little things I may have dropped into a crack or to maneuver a tiny object. I am a city guy, Dad and Grandpa so I use my Victorinox for cutting hockey tape, fixing glasses, opening packages, getting out slivers, snipping threads, turning screws and cutting rope.

So for me its all about the scissors , screwdrivers , and tweezers. The Climber is all of that and it small enough to sit comfortably in my pant pocket. I also love that people dont get scared when I bust out a Swiss army knife.

Its a great tool and an essential every day carry.

This LMF II makes 3 for me. I finally got it on 6 Aug, 2020 instead of 24 Jul, 2020 because of COVID 19. Just goes to show you that you can never keep a great tactical knife down. I love these LMF knives because of how tough they are and they are made to do several tasks you may need to do.

Also since these knives were made for the Military personnel needs in mind. I keep one in my leave the house bag incase something happens I know I am prepared. I keep one by the bed, and now I have my edc knife.

They work great on outside tasks like hammering, cutting heavy thick material, and also a punch to help you get drill bits started. Heck I just look for stuff to do to see if the LMF can tackle it. That is why I love the LMF II because it can do things other fixed blade knives can’t.

That is what makes this such a great knife it is an indoor and outdoor tool that can handle whatever you throw at it. Gerber hit a home run with the LMF II.

Great Knife, the sheath is surprisingly very well made. The Knife is not only extremely sharp, as well the blade/ handle can be utilized with different grips/ applications ie. adapted for spear use. or other combat/usage applications.

A great product with service and usability incorporated.

This is my third Gerber LMF 2. They are great all around survival knives. I generally keep one of these in my car or my pack. If I’m going out on a major adventure, I keep one of these as my backup.

The sheaths in these are very very nice, arguably one of the best sheaths out there from a production knife company. If you can snag one of these for under $65, it’s a steal. P. S. This last one was razor sharp.

Oh and if you are going to do some hardcore batoning then I’d probably choose another knife for that purpose. This is a great all around knife and while it can’t do light batoning I’d probably steer away from doing heavy stuff with it.

I’ve never had one fail but this knife really wasn’t designed solely for that purpose in mind. There are positives and negatives to any knife. Weight them carefully and choose accordingly. Highly recommend these knives.

I’ve used 91 mm Medium Knives for a long time, but always found the main blade a little too short. When I used the blade on this 111 mm Large Knife, I instantly loved it. The blade is bigger, lockable and feels much tougher.

But the main advantage in my opinion of this specific model is that all tools are truely useful, and almost none are missing. I would indeed have liked to have the multipurpose hook (which do not exist on any 111 mm models), and see a sewing awl on the reamer-punch, but it’s just to quibble, and this knife is already more than complete.

This knife is also surprisingly light and is very comfortable to handle, more so than classicals 91 mm knives in my opinion.

I’ve always been impressed by the design and quality of the Swiss army knives, having had a smaller one in the past, I knew exactly which tools I used and which I didn’t. The outrider looked like the perfect option and I couldn’t be happier with it.

I have owned it for over a year now and it has been by my side through many an adventure. I’ve used it for everything from cutting my nails to skinning deer. And now after the 3rd deer I feel impressed enough to write a review.

The blade although harder to sharpen holds an edge very well. Stand out features for me are the larger locking blade, the amazingly good scissors, and the can opener. Not to mention the saviour bottle opener, you never know when someone is going to show up with a bottle of wine and no means to get at the goods inside.

The only thing I’d change is to swap the position of the bottle opener for that of the can opener so the can opener would have the locking feature.

This is my 4th victorinox. I have the trekker which is a little bare bones, the swisschamp which is an awesome collection of if you don’t need a lot of knife and the farmer x alox which is my casual pocket knife and the most attractive.

For me I love the outrider for the in line Phillips head, the scissors, the large locking blade and the locking screwdriver with the saw being the only tool I’ll very rarely use. It came down to this and the skipper but I use the scissors 10 to 1 over the pliers.

If they would replace the saw that I’ll probably never use with the pliers on the outrider it would be perfect! I say this is the best tool set on a large pocket knife because I question the the size and weight of the Hercules and workchamp still counting as pocket knives and not getting in to Leatherman multitool range.

I like this one so much I tracked down the blue Russian variant and bought it also.

This knife is aptly named. It’s definitely tiny. Too small for a useful everyday use knife. I would highly recommend the Case mini trapper instead. That being said, the tiny trapper is well made and up to the high standards that I expect from Case.

Seems to hold it’s edge well and was fairly easy to hone to a razor edge. It will be the knife I carry when I get my “Sunday go to meeting” clothes on but will stay home when I’m out and about in my jeans or bib overalls.

This would also be a fairly good knife to give a youngster for his first decent knife. It would fit well in smaller hands.

This is a sweet little knife and Case have done a nice job on the build quality of it. Well suited to carrying in the watch pocket of your jeans when you want something really compact and don’t want a pocket clip hanging outside your pants.

Being a small slipjoint with a half stop, it won’t scare anyone but it is large enough to do useful work – particularly around the office. Is it good value? Not really no. I think the price is relatively high for a knife this size and made from these materials.

That said, I’m glad I’ve got it and it is getting a fair bit of pocket time.

Made this purchase, Case Knife for a Veteran friend, that is dyeing of cancer. He was never able to afford a Case. It was an honor to be able to give something to someone who deserved it in every way.

Good medicine. He still can not believe a went to the trouble to get one for him. This was in my price range, only wish I could have had more funds to buy an even better one. It was the thought that made him so happy.

I have received several items from you and they have been good. It is not a bad reflection on you. You receive these wrapped and boxed and unseen before shipping. I have several case knives and consider them the standard for slip joint knives especially.

The knife was a nice beautiful example of a case but the sheild (which are glued in now) was so poorly seated to the point of actually cutting my hand when gripping and sliding along the handle. I have spent some time sanding and polishing the shield to make it managable but it is an ugly mess.

Such a shame. It I hope it is not their common quality control performance. I am still a case fan but I will physically see and handle any future case purchases. Thanks for your interest. Respectfully dwain4311.

This is my husbands favorite pocket knife. I got this for him for Christmas to replace one exactly like it that he had for a long time then lost it. He looked at others but was never satisfied, saying that this one was the perfect size, had 2 blades, and held a sharp edge.

Best pocket knife ever!.

Beautiful bone handle and great Case workmanship–with a few “but”s. Case’s medium stockman design is compact–and challenging to execute without interference between the blades. I CAREFULLY bent my spey blade so it would pass the sheep foot blade with less interference.

I dressed and polished the edges of both blades and now you can feel the catch of the spey in the sheep foot’s pull. but only slightly. The clip blade’s spring is a bit weak, so it doesn’t close with an authoritative snap.

Finish scratches betray a little interference between the clip and sheep foot blades, too. Feeling blades rubbing against each other is irritating in a high-end knife. I wish Case would make the sheep foot with a slight offset and add about 0.

010″ to the middle spacer. Still, it’s an outstanding knife. Beware that it’s chrome vanadium (carbon steel) and susceptible to rust. But it’s a real beauty and feels great in the hand.

It’s so rare to find any good products that are still made in the USA. And when you can get a quality knife like this, made in America, for a great price – it’s a no-brainer! I had one or two small Buck knives as a kid.

Now, I have a number of quality folding knives from Benchmade and Spyderco, and some fixed-blade knives from Gerber, and I’m very happy to add this one to my stable. This knife has heft to it, which is not a bad thing.

It has a presence when it’s in your hand. The fit and finish is excellent. The blade is very sharp. It feels rock solid when locked open. It’s beautiful to look at. And it comes with a quality leather holster.

It also has Buck’s “Forever Warranty. ” For the price, it’s quite a value, IMO. Buying from Swiss Knife Shop was smooth and delivery was extremely fast!! I also got my name personalized onto the blade.

Oh and almost forgot, this year (2022) is the 50th anniversary of the Buck 112 Ranger knife, and as a commemmoration of that, Buck is putting an “anvil” mark on the blade with a “50” inside of it. Pretty nice! All for the price of a standard Ranger knife.

All in all, you can’t go wrong with this knife or with Swiss Knife shop!.

This knife is the gold standard for lock back folding knives since 1964. The blade has changed it’s metal since the beginning but the knife is the same. All of the folding hunter style of knives have been modeled after the impeccable design of the classic Buck 110.

This knife comes nicely polished and shaving sharp right from the factory and it’s covered by Bucks forever warranty, that’s for life! I broke the tip on one of the two 110’s I own and I sent it back for a reshaping (for a modest fee because of abuse) and it returned completely fine, looking even better than new and as sharp as can be.

I could have had the blade replaced but I wanted to preserve the year marking’s for the year I purchased it and a new blade would have a different date stamp. Overall you won’t find a better knife company to deal with than Buck and I highly recommend this product.

I own a few OTF and OTS automatics by some very good knife makers, and they’re great knives. The regular Buck 110 in and of itself is a classic must own. The Buck 110 auto is phenomenal! This is absolutely in competition with any of the autos by the high end makers.

Deploys quickly and it has an absolutely solid lock once deployed. ZERO concerns about the blade closing in any situation or environment you deploy it. And it’s extremely sharp. If your a knife collector or just looking for a great everyday dependable auto you’d be crazy not to buy this one.

MORAKNIV. We can’t say enough about this knife. Our acreage property is heavily forested. upkeep (such as dead-cutting & skirting) leaves us with a tremendous amount of repurposing material. i. e. limbs, branches, etc.

When utilising these materials for projects such as natural fencing (and the like), the Morakniv helps to cut right through the work. its a great knife for trimming branches to required lengths, for cutting notches prior to lashing, for splitting lengths of branches, etc.

‘of course, it makes cutting through various ropes & twines for tying fence parts together no task at all. Only heat source here is wood. that means many, many, many wood piles/stacks. When clearing areas here & there of fallen branches & leaf-mold for new wood stacks, very young saplings are always revealed dotting the ground’s surface.

certainly one thing you don’t want is for a sapling to begin growing up through a wood pile. ‘and so they too must be removed. the Morakniv slices right through them like going though twine. even sapplings of 1/4 – 1/2 inch thick.

a coupl’a shaves and a quick slice and they’re gone. The thickness of the blade makes this a tough, tough knife. The modest blade length adds to its sturdiness. Its sharp. ‘and. it stays sharp. it takes alot of abuse and stands up to it all like a trooper.

The comfort of the grip feels so natural in the hand that a great deal of cutting can be attended to without fatigue. The design of the sheath will keep the Morakniv in place. it clicks in when married correctly with the sheath so you know its secure.

not a second thought needed. no worrying over losing the knife out the scabbard whilst moving & bending & stooping (etc), nor whilst traversing the forest. ‘And. knife & sheath alike are an easy, easy clean-up at the close of the work day.

Most muck simply wipes right off. any stubborn grime can be rinsed away under a bit of running water. dry off the Morakniv and back in the sheath to await its next job. After just a short time of owning & utilising the Morakniv, we can’t imagine getting along without them.

They have quickly become part of our standard gear for going into the forest to work. There’s no question in mind. we’ll definitely be purchasing more so to gear the various production areas that develop on the property.

having one, or even two just won’t do. They’re too valuable a tool that are utilised by many hands across various projects. it doesn’t make sense to juggle them around betwixt folks. considering their reasonable price and immense versatility, having several available for whomever may need at any given time is well worth it.

I’ve had my Mora Morakniv Companion for about a week now and I’m really enjoying it. It came sharp staright out of the packet – passed the cut paper test. Feels comfortable and well balanced. It clicks into the sheath which I like.

I’ve wrapped the sheath in 550 paracord as many youtube videos suggest to have the cordage at hand. I began carving with it yesterday and so far so good. This knife has a good reputation for a reason.

I havent battoned wood with it yet. it’s still too new. (lol). I’m very happy with it. Next mission. to carve a spoon. Enjoy.

Here is the plain simple truth. This is NOT the “be all” or “the best knife out there”. What it IS, is a great value for a knife that is better than it has any right to be, at under $20(USD). It is a no frills, basic knife that gets the job done.

The handle feels good, the blade takes an edge and holds it, the plastic sheaf holds the blade superbly, and clips onto your belt with ease. I kept seeing many reviews about the value of these knives and thought “what the hell, why not?”.

Glad I did. The spine of the knife has a rough finish but I’m sure that it helps keep the cost down. But to be honest, for under $20 I really can’t complain. It’s no Tops Tom Brown tracker but if you just need a knife for cutting things or small projects than you can’t go wrong with this knife, and if you break it or loose it, $20 won’t break the bank.

Try it. If you don’t like it, keep it in the glove box of your car for a back-up or emergency stuff or in a back pack/bug out bag.

It’s definitely not the kind of thing to tote around to school or to the mall, but would be perfect (and kind-of-handy) out on outdoorsy adventures … or maybe even doing specialized craft-stuff. And always handy (during downtime) in a vehicle’s glovebox … And that would be (obviously) only after some serious parental tutorial-time … the usual centuries-old cautions and how-to instructions … Because of the beefy handle and short fixed-blade, the little Mora is about as safe/controllable as any knife can get, and it’s actually/technically legal (because of the short 5.

9 cm blade) to take this particular knife onto commercial airplanes in Canada (only) … which I think is a crazy-stupid. I ordered an identical replacement model for myself (blue, again) yesterday morning.

You’ll notice a couple of small tiny scuff marks on the sheath of Eden’s knife (sorry about that), that I somehow inadvertently managed to do when I was adding that handy little loop of red nylon cord … a minor tweak/modification … customization by ***** … :slightly_smiling: BTW, *****’s knife does not have the optional “Neck-Knife Kit” … which I think is a goofy “over-the-top” (and possibly über-dangerous) idea that is best left to hard-core eccentric old Scandinavian bush-crafter dudes.

I ordered this knife over the phone and received it three days later. Thank you for the prompt delivery. The knife is just the right size for my petite frame. I ordered the extra lock strap, lanyard and fire starter kit.

The lanyard is robust enough that when the fire starter is attached to it there is no to minimal slippage. I am careful to have a quick release knot when wearing the lanyard around my neck. The knife is sturdy, fits well in my small hand.

The non cutting edge of the knife works fine when using the fire stick. This is a quality product that will be used for many tasks on my outdoor adventures. Your company sells quality outdoor products made to be used in real situations.
