20 Best Knee Pads For Snowboarding (2023 Updated)

I upgraded to these from my fox titan hard knee guards and I couldn’t be happier. They are very comfortable, you’ll forget you’re wearing them unless it’s really hot outside but as far as movement goes I’d say you lose very little if any wearing these guards.

Very nice quality though some people have had issues with the neoprene ripping, I’ve found that they don’t like to slide on sweaty skin and if you tug hard they will rip at the seems. To prevent this I wear long socks underneath (moose makes a terrific lightweight thigh high sock that I use) and don’t pull on them like a gorilla.

You can’t pull them off like a sock, you have to work them off a bit at a time. Great product, super recommend. BTW I got the L/XL and they fit my skinny long legs just fine. The small may have been better for my leg girth but I was worried about length.

They still stay in place and don’t slide on my featureless twigs.

I wanted to love these. I put them on and wore them around the house for at least an hour and I was convinced they would be perfect. The small/medium size fit great on my skinny legs. The level of protection is awesome.

They feel comfortable with the soft impact foam. However, when I went for my first ride I quickly realized these are not for me. They severely limit my range of motion. I had a hard time just getting my leg over my bike, and kick starting.

It also takes effort to maintain a seated position. These things want to be straight, you have to work to bend them. Maybe its worse because I’m tall (6’5) and my leg angle is more extreme.

I can’t yet speak to the durability or vouch for the protection provided but I did just ride with them in the heat (80deg, alpine sun). They are comfortable and cool. They would have stayed in place if the sizing was better.

The pad material obviously doesn’t breath but the rest of the sleeve wicks efficiently and has the cooling properties of one of those sun hoodies. Fit measurements were way off, I ordered a large based off calf size (my thigh measurement wasn’t even on their chart) should have gotten a medium as was my initial assumption.

These are clearly not downhill or aggressive pads but they are great for cross county and intermediate riding. After all the best pads are the ones you will actually wear. I have my doubts that these will hold up to many rowdy falls, but save me from 1 or 2 good ones and I’ll be happy.

My 12yo has been wearing these for over a year now, and before that he wore the youth version of these. They are fantastic. He is a small guy, they mold perfectly to his leg. They move with his legs, so he doesn’t feel that hard plastic digging into his legs when he runs like with other shinguards.

The sleeve idea is awesome. They never slip down, he never has to re-adjust them, like you see other kids constantly doing on the field. Often times in practice, he just wears them without “soccer socks”.

They are so comfortable he will just keep them on between closely times games in a tournament. You always see other kids take off their shinguards asap after a game bc they are so uncomfortable to wear.

We have recommended these over and over to other parents.

Just bought my second set. I love these – nothing behind the knee, easy to put on without taking off my shoes, and super protective! My first pair lasted 3 years so far and still going strong. Now I have two sets for those long weekends when the first one gets really wet, muddy, or nasty, I can simply switch to the clean second set! Much cooler too than any other I have tried.

great fit, comfy and works as intended. They aren’t constricting which was my biggest concern. They fit tight enough to not move around but not so tight that it is a compression knee sleeve.

The padding isn’t incredible but you get what you pay for. They don’t irritate your legs and it adds just a little extra comfort especially if you’re doing park and it’s a little extra icy out

I’ve tried a few other kneepads before this one. This one is so much easier to put on and comfortable. Great price for quality. No issues with it so far!

Bought for protection when snowboarding on Park Features and are just what I was looking for. Thankfully not fully tested but have protected from slight knocks when coming of pipes/gassers too early.

I loved the previous version of the Slayer. The sleeves grew longer in this contemporary version yet still are easy to pedal in, though I wish the opening behind the knee had remained part of the design – those hamstring tendons are having to get used to more attention.

The longer sleeve length above the knee seems to allow for more pad stability while the sleeve slips down with pedaling. My legs are on the skinny side – so I thought – but I’m filling out Larges and I think I was a Medium in the last version.

I love these. I’ve used them now for every ride for a full season of XC style riding, technical trail, and park. They’re way more impact resistant than you’d think for something so thin and light and pedal friendly.

But here’s the thing: they run small and you’re going to have to size up. I smartly bought the L and XL at the same time and was able to try them both out but it was really just as an added precaution because I knew REI would take them back at the store no questions asked.

I’m not a heavy guy. I was shocked that the XL was a perfect fit. Meanwhile the L felt like I was losing blood flow and would go into shock a few moments. They’re still not so comfortable when you’re just walking around (but that’s not what they’re for), but I now wear them for every ride and barely notice they’re there once I’m pedaling.

In fact, early on when they were still new to me I went down and actually turned to look at my knees to figure out why it *didn’t* hurt more and was surprised to find knee pads there. I swear I had actually forgotten I was wearing pads.

For comparison, in light pads I’ve also used the Fox Racing “Enduro Knee Sleeve” and I found these a lot more comfortable (once the sizing was right) and more protective. I still use the Fox Enduro elbow sleeves and plan to replace them with the Slayer elbow pads next season.

Pros: Love the hardshell and long coverage. The fit is fantastic although a little tight if you have larger thighs. The articulating knee joint helps feel less restrictive while pedaling and the perforated padding keeps heat build up manageable.

Cons: As optimistic as the anti-microbial lining sounds in theory, the pads will end up smelling pretty horrible with regular use. The biggest fault I’ve found so far after a year of use with these pads is the flimsy black cloth material that covers the lateral knee protection foam.

For something that’s used in abrasive conditions and meant to protect you during falls, the black cloth rip incredibly easily when they snag on branches or your pedals. Summary: I’m a fan of Dakine products and own two sets of pads and many gloves but feedback for the product designers on the next iteration of the pads would be to use abrasion resistant material all over.

I love these pads, they offer great protection minus the bulk and stayed in place when I first wore them. The velcro at the top is key as it allows you to dial in your fit and allows uninhibited riding while keeping your knees protected.

I got these at the end of last season and have maybe 15 ride in with them. and the small strap loops that keep the velcro strap in place have fallen apart. They must have been barely sewn on, because I’ve never had a crash or anything that would cause ripping.

normal use made the stitching fall apart and now the loops are disconnected. It’s an issue because those loops kept the top velcro strap in place-now that they have come undone, the velcro strap doesn’t stay put and causes the top of the pad to slip down, and thus the padded part no longer covers my knees.

I expected more out of these pads as they are on the higher end of the price spectrum and mine are still relatively new. I’ve filed a warranty claim so we’ll see how Dakine responds.

Had a pretty bad crash while longboarding yesterday. I was skating down a little hill when suddenly a Vespa pulled out of a driveway, I dodged it but in the process hit a pothole and made a Superman dive to the front.

I’m riding goofy, so I was flying right side to the ground and my rigt ellbow took most of the impact when I hit the ground. I weight 95 kg and must have had about 30 km/h when I hit the pothole, so it was quite an impact, my wrist guard and my hip took the remainder of the impact and after skidding a bit along the road I could simply get up, walk back to my board, reassure the Vespa driver that I was ok and skate back home.

Apart from some abrasion on my hand, hip and ellbow I was good. The abrasion on my ellbow most probably came from wearing the ellbow guards over a long-sleeved shirt. The mesh on the inside of the ellbow guard ripped, but the outside that hit ground only has a minor scratch (I’d upload a foto but this isn’t possible here).

As a suggestion to further enhance these splendid ellbow guards I’d add a velcro removable hard-shell PE ellbow-cap. This would probably have saved my ellbow from getting the abrasion by not connecting with the road upon impact (I felt the pull on my arm, when I hit the road) but by sliding along the asphalt.

And velcro-attachable, because that way one could remove the shell if one doesn’t need it or wants to wear it under a jacket, pullover, etc.

These are the first knee guards I have ever used. I choose them based on all the reviews describing them as comfortable and easy to wear. They are easy to wear and comfortable for short rides. On longer rides, the back of my knees were chafed.

I may not have been wearing them exactly correct and will keep experimenting. They do provide a sense of confidence that, if needed, they will protect the knees from serious injury. TakeAHike ordering and delivery time exceeded my expectations.

Pricing was very competitive.

Excellent protection and design. I love that they open all the way so you don’t have to slide them on and off, it’s especially nice when you’re sweaty. They hold up good to washing and air dry thoroughly on the counter or hung.

A little bulky but I think that comes with protection. Getting the Velcro adjustment/fit just right is important, I have noticed a minor blister on my leg when it’s not dialed in just right.

I bought these knee guards because they meet the requirements of EN 1621-1, Level 2 certification, which is the highest level certification for motorcycle body armor. I checked the Ion sizing guideline, measured my legs and bought XL, even though I don’t consider my legs to be XL.

I can’t tell you how well these guards fit and how comfortable they are. They are secure without being tight. They do not fall down, nor twist around, nor need to be re-adjusted, no matter how hard I ride.

I have taken a few hard hits to the knees, and felt nothing. Without pads, those hits would have not sent me to the hospital, but they would have hurt for sure and probably kept me off my bike for at least a week.

I wear them every time I wear a helmet, which is every ride. Once they are on, they disappear from my consciousness, just like all the rest of my kit that I have dialed-in very well. If I somehow lost these guards today, I would immediately get online and buy another pair.

I would not bother to even look at other guards from any brand. And I probably would not ride until the new pair showed up at my house.

Try using the Trail: two exits for a total of about 80km and 1500m of altitude difference. Very comfortable in all conditions, even when pedaling uphill. They always stay in place. They look very well done and the shell has a nice texture.

It is essential to check your measurements before deciding on the size.

Excellent product, fits extremely well and there is no movement when riding I actually forgot I was wearing them Hopefully I never have to test out is crash ability but I certainly feel very reassured it will work when required.

These are my favorite knee pads. I use them for trail riding and downhilling (bike park/racing). They are protective enough without being bulky and uncomfortable. So comfortable that they have just become an obligatory part of my kit every time I get on the bike and I don’t notice them.

I have had issues with other pads sliding down, get in the way when pedaling, squeak, and not protect when I actually fall but I have yet to experience this with this Shred enduro knee pad. I have been sponsored by Shred for 1 year.

If you’re experienced at park/dh these are fantastic to fit comfortably under skinny jeans for dirt jumps, or moto pants for dh race. They don’t slip, and don’t cause sweaty knee or restrict your ROM.

I purchased these for my son with your shin pads. He loves them. Hes gone through a few different types for bmx and he finally has pads that he will wear. They dont restrict his movements and they protect him well.

Super comfy and lightweight knee pad for light protection! Light, stretchy breathable fabric around sides and back – I forget they’re on while riding.

I just bought this one to learn how to skateboard as an adult, and it’s not a great option at all. My advice would be to save your money and purchase a reputable brand from elsewhere. Mine turned up with the creakiest sounding trucks, split pivot cups, and breaking bushings.

Had to replace a bunch of parts on it before I can even get to taking it outside.
