Best Kitty Litter For Ice (2024 Updated)

I really wanted to like this product because it would help me keep tabs on my kitties’ health, but it was so dusty. That was my biggest issue with it. Every time I scooped it, it left a haze of dust in the air that lingered for way too long.

I tried using a misting bottle with water in it to maybe drop the dust out of the air with the water, no go. The fist time I scooped it I thought, “maybe it will only do this the first time. ” Nope, it was every time.

On top of the dust (which looked like fog that filled the small room I keep the litter box in, the whole way to the ceiling, the room is 10’8″x9′) the odor control was not as good as my previous litter.

I used a clumping wood litter, and will be switching back despite the fact that it tracks through my house like crazy. The price of the 16. 4lb box of my old brand is slightly cheaper than the 6lb bag of the Alpha Paw Genius Litter and lasts a little over a month with me fully dumping the litter box every 3 weeks or so and the box has enough litter to fill the box twice.

I have 2 cats, both indoors all the time. The Genius paws hit about 2 weeks and started to have an ammonia smell from the cat pee, and within days it was obnoxious, even after I had extra scooped it, scooping out most of the litter that was wet and not just the poop.

I dumped the whole box the same day and was glad I had enough of my old litter left from before switching to fill the box. After I dumped the Genius litter, the litter box reeked of cat pee so badly that I soaked it for 15 minutes then cleaned it, then put baking soda in the bottom because it still smelled horrid, before putting the other brand in.

Note: my sense of smell is poorer than most people, and this smell was overwhelming for me. I would have to buy 2 bags of the Alpha Paw per month to have adequate odor control for my two cats, and figure out how to deal with the dust.

There are only 2 things this litter has going for it: the color changes for cat health and that it doesn’t track very much. I have decided to keep a bag of it on hand, just to put maybe a one inch layer over my normal litter once a month for a small health-check, but it isn’t worth it for me to switch.

sadly since my pinky has developed kidney problems, i thought i should buy this litter to verify my initial concerns. the litter was normal at first, and the next use it was blue. after confirming with my vet – she has kidney troubles.

a few weeks into using the litter, i noticed that she had also developed pica – and was eating her litter! silica gel is horrible for cats to ingest! and im grateful that it confirmed my suspicions about her kidneys – but horrified that she was eating this.

so i immediately got rid of it and had to switch back to the paper litter – as its not as harmful if she eats it. otherwise, it was a good litter.

I got this litter because my friend uses it, and thought it would be good to try. I just got the litter and the pads so I didn’t have to commit to the whole system. I like that it’s easier to clean up, and because I’m taking my kittens on adventures, we need a litter box in the car.

It’s easy to just clean the poop out as it happens, then just change the pad and the litter when it gets gross (about a week with the pad, 1-2 weeks for the litter, when two kitties are using part time for travel).

Pros are the reduced/little smell, not having to change the litter as often, and not having to deal with big messes (less likely to track out of the box, and easy enough to just throw it back in)—immensely helpful as it relates to a travel litter box.

The biggest con is that I really don’t want to have to buy an entirely new litter box just to use this litter—I already have enough boxes. It works okay with one of my sifting litter boxes, but it still falls through and gets stuck in the gaps—more so with the other sifting box.

I wish that they would sell a mat option that could be inserted into existing sifting litterboxes. I will probably eventually invest in the litterboxes, but they are super pricey, so that would have to be worked into the budget down the road.

I have 3 cats, 3 cats equals a minimum of 4 litter boxes. I have struggled with traditional, clumping litters for years. The smell was always awful and it made a huge mess. Even using a litter mat under the box I still had to sweep daily because my cats were tracking it everywhere! A friend recommended the Tidy Cat Breeze system to me about a year ago.

I replaced one of my litter boxes with it to give it a try. Holy cow! What a game changer! My cats love it and they don’t track these pellets around my house at all. Occasionally a couple of pellets will get knocked out of the box but they are easy to see and pick up.

I have replaced all of my litter boxes with these. It even replaced my Litter Robot 3 because this system works so much better and is easier to clean. I’m not sure how they would work in a traditional litter box because the pellets aren’t as absorbent as clumping litter but with the Breeze system there is an absorbent pad in a tray below so that’s not an issue.

These litter pellets also have almost no dust, they don’t bother my asthmatic son at all so now I have help cleaning the litter boxes. YAY, Breeze Litter Pellets!.

We are a multi-cat household. Six. We finally decided to try the Breeze system a few months ago. We still have one litter box with lightweight clumping litter. The beasties use that for pooping, and the Breeze for peeing, believe it or not.

When we were younger, hauling regular heavy weight clumping litter from the store to the car to the house wasn’t such a big deal. But now, eh, aging costs money. so this is more costly than the lightweight clumping, and way more costly than the heavy clumping type.

But the pellet system works. We’d been having one inappropriate pee-er occasionally, and Breeze seems to have solved that problem. We bought a second system, because Breeze controls the urine smell so well.

Wish there was a generic version of the pellets, but it’s really nice to not be walking on crunchy regular litter all over the place. The pellets can scatter if you’ve got a ‘digger’, but you can SEE them.

It’s nothing like having hundreds of tiny litter particles all over the place.

As tofu litter is more popular in Asian countries and after knowing my friend uses that for her cat, I wanted to try this to replace the clay litter I’ve been using for the past years. I got the original one because I just can’t imagine any artificial fruity fragrance mixed with cat pee to smell pleasant.

I mixed a thin layer of the old clay litter and the whole bag of tofu litter as transition. It doesn’t cause trouble because the finer clay stays at the bottom and tofu litter on top even when mixed, and this doesn’t affect the clumping either.

My first impression on this litter is, weirdly but honestly, they kinda smell good. The clay litter I used is not fragranced and I didn’t mind the sandy smell, but this smells like. stacks of papers? And it definitely neutralizes the ammonia smell better after the litter is used.

They clump fine, might break into pieces when scooping but still big enough to be picked out. I’ve seen reviews saying tofu litter in general doesn’t deal well with poops, but I don’t find differences than clay litter in terms of odor locking, except that my cat won’t fully cover the poops with tofu litter as he would with the clay litter, but no big deal for me as I clean litter box quite often.

From my use on my long hair cat, the biggest advantage of tofu litter over the clay litter is they don’t stick onto his fluffy pants when he squats–after countless times struggling to clean the wet stinky clumps on his butt and legs, finally something! I think it is because the pellets are longer, they might be touching his fur but just won’t stick as easily.

The other advantage is the tracking problem. They still track outside of the litter box as agreed by other reviews, but way better than the clay litter. Again I think due to the longer pellet size, they won’t stick in between the paw hairs, and most of the loose litters get captured by the litter mat, and I can deal with the few ones on the floor and sweep them up.

Unlike the clay litter, which is less visible when scattered, and I’m also tired of feeling/stepping on the sand particles around any possible corners at home. Overall this is a positive first experience.

I read about tofu litter produces less dusts than other types so hopefully some long term good for my cat. They are also flushable if this will be a plus for anyone. Since our litter box isn’t set up around the toilet, I continue to use litter genie.

One thing I would suggest is to use a litter scoop with bigger holes for this litter, because my current scoop is meant for clay litter and it takes forever to sift the pellets. They are more expensive than clay litter, and I don’t know yet how long a bag can last, but I’m willing to try out for longer.

I was SUPER skeptical purchasing this since I have been through every cat litter you can imagine for low dust. My rag doll seems to have an allergy for everything. Yesterdays news came in tops for that, but what cat wants to stand on super large hard pellets that don’t clump or mask any kind of smell.

I’ve been using Worlds Best and yes the clumping is great but not clear on how they can advertise low dust and tracking when I am dust busting 8 million times a day and my cats paws are yellow and he’s sneezing while peeing.

Cautiously tried this, and I am REALLY impressed. Barely any tracking and NO dust. I didn’t believe the 3 second clumping thing, but it somehow clumps better than any litter I’ve ever used. I scoop it, nothing crumbles, and then dump it in the toilet.

I still use my litter genie for the poop for sanitation reasons, however, scooping is on point. I’m really glad chewys started to carry this. I’ve been hearing about it but it seemed to good to be true.

The colored litter is not scented as someone else might have mentioned, as I think it is just for aesthetics. I like the original bc it looks the most clean, but I also have Ocean fish which is a light blue.

I also don’t have an issue with the color transferring to their beds or carpet in their play room, and the carpet is cream so I definitely would’ve noticed ( same reviewer mentioned this). I’ve never had issues with smelly litter, but this does the job just as well as worlds best.

I definitely recommend this if you have been looking for a zero dust, low tracking, environmentally friendly litter.

I tried this litter completely on its own when I was fostering kittens, and I will say that this is NOT suitable for kittens that are under 5 weeks because the litter will clump to their legs and little paws.

I had to use warm water and a paper towel to get those off of them. After around 6 weeks, things got better, but I decided to mix this litter with some wood shredded litter and that has significantly helped the sticking.

It still stuck sometimes, but it was much, much better than before. This 50% mix of wood and 50% mix with tofu litter is also what I use for my cat, and it has significantly help reduce tracking (actually, there is no tracking with 50/50 mixture) and helped with odor control.

My past experience with *only* wood litter was that the wood would stink up and smell like, well, rotten wood, and it would track horrendously. By mixing this tofu litter in, not only has it reduced that smell, but the litter no longer tracks.

I was originally thinkin about converting to this litter 100%, but I’m actually pretty happy with the 50/50 mixture I have, so I will keep that. If you’re iffy about fully converting to this litter, I would say try a 50/50 mix with gradations in-between (first 25/75 then 50/50), then make a decision! I think this mix has been very beneficial since the past 8 months I’ve been using it.

I always use this product. Now. Yes i know, it’s not the cheapest. But, it’s extremely, ++++ absorbent. There’s never urine odour either. The larger granules don’t seem to stick to the cats paws, unlike the smaller granules of other products I’ve used.

Just a few on the mat next to the litter tray. The cats don’t use it during the day, as they’re adults now. But it’s used at night. Easy to remove soil, purrrrrfect.

I tried Cat’s Pride Total Odor Control Scented litter and couldn’t be more impressed by the litter itself and the company’s integrity. First of all, each jug you purchase donates one pound of litter to a shelter! That in itself nearly makes this litter worth buying, in my opinion.

But the quality of this litter is unbeatable and affordable, which is such a weight off my shoulders. In attempting to do something good with my purchasing habits as of late, this litter is right on the money.

So many of the companies that aim to do admirable deeds such as this are out of my reach, economically speaking. It is a relief and comfort that I can afford this good deed! The litter states that it’s 99 percent dust-free, and I can attest that it is! Litter’s dust and tracking outside of the pan are huge pet peeves of mine, and this dust-free formula cuts down on these issues almost entirely.

It also cuts down on any scent that may want to travel to any other areas of my house. This is a huge plus, as well, as no matter how pleasant a cat litter tries to be, it is still always distinct. I hate that! This formula truly does away with any scents that come from what the cat does in the litter and the litter itself, even though it’s a ’scented’ litter.

I bought this for my recently adopted (2yr) cat. The old litter I used was free from the shelter, although it clumped well it made my bathroom stink. I decided to get a scented litter to see if it would help and it definitely does! It isn’t dusty like the other litter I used, great odor control.

Ever since I started using this though, my cat stopped covering up his poop and pee, causing it to smell more than it should. I also just recently for the past three days have been finding pieces of poop outside the litter box, which has never happened before.

And today, he actually went and peed on my boyfriend’s backpack instead of the litterbox. I clean out his litter box almost everyday if not every other day, so 100% convinced these new actions are because it’s scented.

Won’t be buying it again, it has great odor control but for a cat that clearly doesn’t like scented litter I wont get it again.

I was super skeptical about clay clumping litter! I’ve been using the purina breeze box with the pellets for years. I used the pellets because I couldn’t handle the pee and litter smell. You only smelled the poos with the pellets, which could be scooped pretty quick.

Our cats were indoor/outdoor for a few years, so we didn’t notice until we moved into our new place where we had to readjust to just having them indoors that the pellets get so disgusting so fast and make their paws so dirty.

It also just stinks. I was over it. Basically, poo paws all over the place. I went with this fresh step litter bc the reviews were great! I’m so happy I did! This litter is amazing!! You literally cannot smell it when they use the box.

You can’t even smell it when you clean the litter box! And it does not track much either! Just a few particles here and there. I 100% recommend this litter! Our kitties are much happier too!.

I’ve been using World’s Best Litter for my cats for quite some time due to how well its odor control works. However, the DUST is something ridiculous. My entire basement was persistently coated in a brown dust, and it was disgusting.

I spent hours searching the internet for a true dust-free litter, and landed on this product. Some folks mentioned dust in their reviews, so I didn’t have the highest hopes, but litterally have not seen ANY dust, not when pouring, not when scooping.

Nothing. I LOVE IT. And I like how urine sits at the top of the litter, rather than sinking. World’s Best had quick absorbtion, but nothing on this. I am definitely liking it. And my cats are picking this box over the box that still has World’s Best in it (didn’t want to change everything and have them totally confused).

I bought this at the recommendation of a friend who also has two cats. While the clumping is normally good the product sometimes is a gooey mass stuck to the side of the litter pan like mud. Every time I pour new litter in the pan, and when scooping, I can smell a light scent.

The first time I noticed it I thought it might have been a mistake, but after several packages the scent is always there. Plus, the dust is horrible, both putting it in, and when the cats cover up their business.

It tracks through the house even with mats by the pan, and the cats are constantly putting their feet in the water bowl to help clean themselves. One of the cats started sneezing when I switched to this brand so either the fragrance or the dust, or both, have affected her respiratory system.

Impressed and I liked it a lot. It does have a gentle scent to it. I wanted to get unscented for the cat’s sake plus I hate the intense chemically smells of scented litters. I secretly love Ever Clean’s gentle masking scent which keeps the litter area copasetic.

Clumping is good, Tracking is minimal (bigger clay pieces, so they stay near the litter box instead of across the house). Cat is cool with it. Guests say they can’t smell anything despite me living in a small apartment.

I’m still exploring all litters on the market, but I will definitely buy this product again and think it might be the best I’ve tried so far (among Dr. Elsey’s various versions, Skoon [awful], Pretty Litter [weird], and numerous Arm & Hammer [some amazing, some terrible]).

I bought this litter based on other reviews and I definitely have not been disappointed! (So thank you all!!) As background – Our household was using another name brand litter for our 2 cats. One of the litter boxes in our home is in a small bathroom where the ammonia odor quickly built up and was potent enough to linger even once scooped and topped off with fresh litter – not to mention it tracking everywhere! But not this litter! It really does what it says it will.

The smells from the box are absolutely contained for wellllllllll over a week and while not eliminated entirely (can any traditional style litter really do that though) the tracking of the litter has improved biggggg time! Now, full disclosure, I haven’t truly counted the number of days it stays “fresh” for, but I still can say for certain that in my experience, the scent is controlled for at least a full 7 days (and likely longer if I had actually counted!).

It sounds dramatic but seriously, what used to be a smell that felt like it overpowered a whole part of the house now is gone to the point where I’ve forgotten about it for longer than was “usual” and slacked on my litter scooping duties a little bit.

It also clumps way better than the other brand name we were using and the cats took to this no problem which is good considering I was concerned about them being sensitive to the grain and scent of this new litter.

Personally, I don’t mind the fabreze scent either! We were previously using unscented with our other brand (which really didn’t seem unscented at all) and with this one, despite it supposed to have a fabreze scent, I don’t feel like the fabreze lingers beyond those first few moments after you pour the litter into the box.

It pretty much works the same as if I spray regular fabreze for other scents in the house – it hangs around for a few minutes and then that there’s no air-freshener or litter box smell. All of these things have 100% converted me to this litter, and I’m so thankful I got it!.

I love the product but watch how it’s delivered. so I ordered three packs of 38 lb fresh step kitty litter I end up falling asleep last night woke up at 7:49 p. m. and my Christmas tree was on my porch that I ordered from Walmart and I happen to look out my storm door and I seen some outside my gate on the sidewalk outside of my yard so I wasn’t even on my property so I opened the door to see if I see what I really think I’m seeing yes they left all three packages right outside my gate on the public sidewalk.

I’m blown away that it wasn’t stolen. my Christmas tree was ordered from Walmart that delivery person put it on the porch. the delivery for the cat litter was supposed to be the exact same thing but they were different deliveries they weren’t brought together.

this is totally unacceptable so if you order this kitty litter don’t be surprised if they don’t bring it to your door because that’s heavy but I guess it was too heavy they wouldn’t sell it and have it up for delivery.

so that’s why delivery trucks have dollies anyway just be careful because I know I’m not the only one they’ve done this to. I order this off the internet because I’m disabled luckily my friend pulled up and he carried them up into my house.

cuz there’s no way I could have got them into my house myself no way. delivery instructions were to leave them inside the storm door on the porch. the Christmas tree delivery guy had no problem following them instructions.

I’ve had deliveries where they just put them right inside my over the side of the fence into the grass part of my yard there’s no beware of dog signs there’s no dogs even around my yard I have cats there’s no reason for them not to be able to bring it up to the parts cuz this is just totally unacceptable so just beware that if you order this kitty litter and it says it’s been delivered but it ain’t out there somebody probably took it cuz it’s probably been out on the sidewalk.

From the human that has to clean the litter box: 1 star – this litter does not clump well. Poops are very crumbly and if the scoop hits a poop head-on, it smears. Perhaps a trade-off to being dust free is looser clumping.

Though it is marketed as unscented, be aware that it does have a very noticeable scent– not overpowering like scented litters, but if you are expecting truly unscented, this is not it. From the six-month old kittens that use the litter: 5 stars.

I have to report fairly– even though I do not like this litter, my kittens love it. We have been using Sustainably Yours, but I was hoping to find something that tracks less. I gave Fresh Step a try in one litter box (out of three) and the kittens have been using it almost exclusively.

Another way I know they prefer this litter is that they actually come back inside to use it. I feed them at 7 AM and let them outside around 8 AM. In the past, they tended to wait to go outside for their morning toiletries.

However, since trying Fresh Step, they will use their litter box in the morning and will even come back inside to use it during the day (previously I did not see head nor tail until they come home for dinner).

It is very clear that they love Fresh Step. I’ll keep a litter box of Fresh Step while I continue to try other litters. I hope to find one they love, that clumps as well as Sustainably Yours but tracks less, and is also dust free-ish.

I’m discovering it is likely impossible to get everything on my wish list.

One pack is enough for 1 week in our case, not 4 weeks (!!!). The litter does not absorb moisture 🙁 So to prevent cat walking in its own pee we have to change it every 24/48h. The amount of litter you use does not change anything, we tried.

Very clean and easy to use with an automated litter tray. Does not clog, or get stuck to the coat of the cat. Excellent quality and lasts longer than ordinary clumping litter.

Works at keeping odours at bay

my wife uses this product instead of sugar. she likes it better than sweet and low. the price is reasonable and it is a good product
