20 Best Keyboard For Gaming Budget (2023 Updated)

This is my first mechanical keyboard. My fingers say it is great! Quality is outstanding. Nothing to complain about. This price is the lowest one I could find online. So it is a great value product.

I love everything about this keyboard except for the G-Keys on the left side. I am not a gamer, but I am a serious touch-typist and needed a keyboard that I can feel the difference in the keys. Newer models are too smooth or the F/J buttons don’t have enough rise so I can tell where my hands are or the insert/home keys are in a stupid spot! For this keyboard, my only compliant is that I hit the G6 Key EVERY time I want to use the Control key for a shortcut function.

(Like Control C for Copy) I thought I could get used to it, but I can’t. Driving me crazy! And programing that key will just train me to reach further than I need for when I am on my laptop or other computers I regularly use.

Otherwise I LOVE how weighty this keyboard is, the report of the keys is fantastic, and the placement of the Function/Volume/10Key and Insert/home is exactly what I was looking for. If this keyboard was built without the G Keys, I would give it a 10+++++++++.

Normal day to day uses really, nothing crazy. Gaming on it feels like any other kb. Good replacement kb for those who don’t wanna spend beyond 30 bucks.

Needed a backup and these were on sale so I got 2. Much better quality than expected. Very happy with this purchase. Would recommend as a well priced functional keyboard – my usage – Casual gamer and internet surfer.

Good keyboard for the price but there are some cons. I have used this keyboard daily for the past 18 months. I have ran across some issues. The keys feel good to press, the noise is fine, the RGB is actually RGB, you can set any range of colours on any key along with animations and a variety of customisations.

The default for this keyboard is unicorn vomit until you install the software or until the Logitech software starts. It’s like the keyboard has zero memory or brains. You will literally need to log on to your computer for it to change the unicorn vomit.

I had issues with my left Ctrl key. I use it pretty much constantly copying and pasting things 9 hours a day and it would intermittently not work. This was super frustrating as it started happening without 10 months of owning the keyboard.

Instead of taking it back under warranty I decided to just swap that switch with another switch. This involved disassembling the board and desoldering/soldering in the keys, much faster than doing a return to manufacturer.

Now the latest issue is I quite often get an extra space or random space thrown into a word so it seems the space is a little bit sensitive now. I haven’t bothered swapping the switch as of yet as it isn’t too frustrating to remove an extra space occasionally but it just goes to show the switches aren’t super awesome long term with heavy use.

Perhaps it is just the brown switches? All in all, knowing what I know now I won’t buying another one. I’ve always had good luck with Logitech products in the past but this one falls short. I guess I’ll go back to a good old K120, absolutely bullet proof keyboards.

I bought this keyboard a week ago and have been using thoroughly since. The brown tactile keys feel amazing to type on for any application, whether it be gaming or working this keyboard is great. Another feature that stood out to me was the robust build quality.

The sturdy combination of magnesium and aluminium makes the base quite heavy however this adds to the products substantial feel. The USB passthrough is also a great feature for addeing accesories like mice and RGB mousepads.

There’s only one minor issue when using this keyboard, it is the height of the keys above a desk. However, this is easily solved by purchasing a wrist rest. So if you’re in the market for a great gaming keyboard in terms of performance, build quality and value, the logitech g512 is an outstanding option that checks all the right boxes.

I bought this several months ago and i just wanna say it is amazingly durable. I’m somewhat a keyboard smasher from time to time, but this thing is just builded to resist. Also the fact that G512 doesn’t make a large clicking sound is even better.

Gaming late at night with it is just absolutely the best. Although there is some down side, I think, for new users, this key board might be over sensitive due to the fact that the key doesn’t need to be press all the way down to receive the command.

It can cause some trouble for new users. And I think a supporting system designated for this task should be made clear for the users too. Sincerely.

For years I always wanted a mechanical keyboard with those clacking key noises, but having tested some of them out a few years ago, I ultimately found some of them too loud. This was a while ago, but recently my interest in mech keys were renewed and were satisfied by this HyperX Alloy Origins keyboard.

The Aqua switches (it’s the company’s color code for tactile switches) have a satisfying press and sound that isn’t too overwhelmingly loud and obnoxious. And it feels great; I actually changed the keys themselves to the pudding cap ones, which makes the keyboard look really pretty.

Unfortunately, the new pudding keys are not labeled with volume+/- or color switch key labels, so using hotkeys take some getting used to, but now it’s pretty much second nature to me. I recommend this set of keyboards for anyone who wants to get into the world of mechanical keyboard customization, as there are plenty of compatible options that are available online.

Do your research first! There’s a lot of keyboard styles for you to get comfortable with, so try them out before buying it.

***Please note that the photos are not indicative of the out-of-box product. I installed new keycaps and am using the Glorious wooden wrist rest, neither of which are included in the box. When this product is at 72% of its MSRP, it is a no-brainer to get for a budget mechanical TKL (tenkeyless) keyboard.

The aluminum case is solidly built and has a nice heft. The HyperX red switches feel excellent and is on par with Cherry MX Reds, and can feel even better once lubricated with Superlube or proper switch lubricant like Krytox.

Mods I have done and would recommend: 1. Lubricated every switch with superlube. 2. Replaced keycaps with shine-through PBT keycaps. 3. Tape mod (cover the back of the PCB with scotch tape) 4. Foam mod (added a thin layer of foam behind the PCB) For 3 and 4, the case can be removed by removing the screws hidden behind the rubber feet, which can then be re-attached even without glue.

Overall, with a little work, this keyboard can look and sound like something much more expensive.

Really love how this keyboard feels and performs. Gives a satisfying thocky experience that makes typing enjoyable. The RGB lighting shines through clearly because of the transparent Fox switches and customising the light patterns is very easy through the Glorious website.

As this was a pre order, I received regular updates regarding the item’s status and delivery. Definitely worth the wait.

My PC in my home office is located on a large corner desk. The electric lighting in the room is from a fan on the ceiling and a lamp by a reading chair. There is no good place for a lamp on the desk.

I’ve been using the keyboard that came with my Dell PC. That keyboard suits my needs when working at my desk in the daytime since I can see the keyboard adequately with daylight from the windows. But in the evening and at night it is very difficult to see the keys.

This backlit keyboard provided me with the perfect solution. Also during the day, I can see the keys better than before. I set the lighting to “solid” and set the color to white (for me white gives the best visibility among the 9 colors offered).

The keyboard has a key to turn the backlighting on with medium brightness, full brightness, and to turn the lights off when not in use. For me, medium is just right whereas my wife prefers the brighter setting.

The visibility of the lighted keys is great day or night. The keys have a very nice feel and are quiet. I’m using a UBS2 connection and have no whining noise as some who used UBS3 have reported. The keyboard is substantial, sturdy, and well made.

I could not be more pleased. There are many backlit keyboards out there, but after researching the capabilities and reading reviews, the HyperX (owned by HP) was my overwhelming favorite choice. Many of the competitors — most from companies that I’ve never heard of — seemed to have flimsy builds, keys that stuck, keys that stopped working, keys where the coating wore off, lighting that was uneven and diminished over time, and other flaws.

I highly recommend the HyperX. Since I am not a gamer, I cannot comment on its suitability for gaming, although the vast majority of reviewers give it five stars.

Very cheap and 100% worth more than the price. Can play any game nicely and very good for typing and the rgb is out standing, and the fact it has a software too. Very worth it.

Or, justement, la touche CTRL gauche, située en bordure, s’est détériorée très vite (une des deux griffes de fixation, trop fragiles, s’est brisée), après quelques mois d’utilisation non intensive. Et cette touche sert pour plusieurs raccourcis, précisément : CTRL + W/X/C/V/Z/Y/.

Cette touche n’arrête donc pas de sauter du clavier. Vraiment ennuyeux par moments, voire énervant. Mais aucune des touches en bordure (CTRL, MAJ, ALT, ALT GR,. ) ne font partie du lot de remplacement.

Aussi, je ne mets qu’une note moyenne. Et, je ne recommande pas complètement ce clavier. Sauf si vous êtes prêts à coller ces touches récalcitrantes, au risque de ne plus pouvoir les démonter ensuite sans risquer de casser encore plus votre clavier.

It doesn’t really bother me, but it is noticeably louder than a normal keyboard. Cons: Keys aren’t visible without the backlighting. Recommendations: Try the keyboards in the store. I didn’t really like the sound of the clicky mechanical boards, so I went with tactile.

However, a couple issues mentioned in other reviews are definitely noteworthy. First, it squeals when colors are on. The brighter the color, the higher the squeal. As such, the default color-changing mode is intolerable, with its slowly pulsing screech.

This DOES seem to be related to interference, likely from my cheap USB speaker/sub setup. Nonetheless, I would not have thought that buying a keyboard required any sort of checking to make sure the keyboard wouldn’t scream like an angry cat.

I don’t actually care about the backlight, so I turned the light off and have it set to be very dim if I do turn it on periodically. Second, the caps/num/scroll/game-mode lock indicator lights are pointlessly bright.

I did not even realize they had names under them until re-reading a review that mentioned it. It’s like having a penlight staring you in the face for each one. I will be finding something to paint or cover those up to dim the brightness.

Third, my own complaint – I wish that the F and J keys had slightly more pronounced bumps to indicate home row placement. But, I expect I’ll adjust to that. Despite those complaints, this should work for my purposes – very light gaming and plenty of typing.

It replaced a 12-year-old Saitek Eclipse that finally started to have a couple common keys seize up. The G213 is not particularly loud, there aren’t a bunch of unnecessary keys added onto it, and everything is in its proper place.

I hate typing on low-profile keyboards and mechanical is too loud for my tastes, so I was glad that Logitech still offers a non-mechanical full-height option.

it requires Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) to customize, but the download link on their website is broken. had to download from Softpedia. 123 Mb download, 333 Mb when installed. you have to do that if you don’t want to be stuck with a keyboard that constantly does a multi-color-wave.

and the LGS sofwate has to be running in the systray. totally ridiculous. the keys are tall, long stroke, extremely flat/shallow membrane response, making it extremely clacky. if that’s good or bad depends on what you like.

they make me fumble too much. I can’t see how the key response is good for gaming, but again, that’s a matter of preference I guess. the palm rest is good. not removeable or adjustable. keys are supposedly spill resistant to 60 mL.

USB cord is wrapped in woven cloth, a nice touch. the elevation struts are nice and beefy, that’s good given how many others break. however with the struts down, they keyboard is completely flat with your desk.

with them up it is still a low angle. I have to put a block of wood under the front to make the angle more acceptable. now the front sits about 4″ high. this is a pain. the caps lock, num lock, scroll lock and gaming mode LED indicators are large, bright, white squares.

distracting, sort of annoying until you get used to it. probably good for peripheral vision while gaming. fortunately I discovered these undocumented functions to change colors without the need for any software.

starting with colors on, hold color button and press a number. (top row numbers, doesn’t work with keypad) 1, color wave mode, L-R 2/3, color wave mode R-L 4, pulse mode (repeat to cycle through colors) 5, color morph mode 6/7/8/9, off/on (same as just pressing the color button) 0/-/=, solid mode (repeat to cycle through colors) cycle colors: red yellowish white green slightly darker green lt.

blue/cyan blue purple magenta (reddish purple) white that is all hardwired into the keyboard. there are no registry settings. when you turn off the computer then boot up, it loses settings and defaults to color morph mode.

when you restart the computer, it loses settings and remains off even after windows loads. you can use the color button to select a mode but it’s unresponsive at first. takes several attempts before it comes online.

different BIOS may affect keyboard startup behavior differently but that’s what mine does. overall, I like the color functions but would not prefer this keyboard. some others might like it. I give it 4 stars because it is above average.

For a wired keyboard I like the K740 much better as its sleeker and the buttons feel much better to me. But its sold out & this keyboard has proven to be a very ok stop-gap. I need backlit keys but this thing cycles through a rainbow of colors which to me is distracting.

Im on Linux, and there is a G810-LED program in my package manager for this and other Logitech gaming keyboards so I run ‘g213-led -an 1490e1’ from the command line or little executable batch file to make it a nice solid blue & all is well.

Its a big, full-size keyboard with built-in hand rests, which I also prefer. I’m not a hard-core gamer so can’t comment about its gaming capabilities other than it has game mode and very helpful media keys.

Its a great deal for the price.

*Note* I purchased this during their holiday sales so I got it for about 30-40% off. Pros: After using it for a couple of weeks I really like it and is by far one of the nicer keyboards I have used mechanically (coming from multiple corsair and razer products ranging from 100-200$).

The size of the CTRL is perfect since I play on low sensitivity and need the extra mouse space that the numpad usually takes up. The switches feel great and they lighting is nice and bright. I plan on getting aftermarket keycaps but the one’s that come with it are good but nothing special in my opinion.

Cons: There is no lighting software that you can download like iCUE or Razer Chroma to change the lighting easily. I say easily because you CAN use your browser to change the lighting but its not simple enough to find and use.

DROP desperately needs a dedicated software for this as it will probably make a lot of people who care about RGB happy. The sound can be a bit loud considering the metal frame, but with headphones on I don’t notice it too much (it also doesn’t get picked up by my mic in discord, but that will vary depending on your settings/switches).

Overall it’s a great keyboard and I am pretty satisfied with my purchase despite the lake of a dedicated lighting software.

Everything about this keyboard is very nice with one major exception. The stabilizers. I had heard they weren’t great, but I like to judge things for myself. Well, I learned firsthand when I got the keyboard and the first thing I did was break one of the stabs on the spacebar swapping out the standard keycaps for the Matt3o MT3 /dev/tty keycap set I bought along with it.

I have numerous mechanical keyboards and have swapped out keycaps many times and have never broken a stabilizer in the process before. And it’s no wonder. compared to the stabilizers on some of my other boards, the ones on the CTRL are wobbly, thin, and cheap feeling.

And it’s a shame because I really do like everything else about the keyboard. The aluminum chassis feels reassuringly solid, the included Halo Clear switches are nice and tactile, and the standard keycaps are of a very high quality.

The stabilizers are (literally) the only weak spot on what is an otherwise excellent product. If DROP upgrades these in future with a better set of standard stabs this will be an easy product to recommend.

But until they do, it’s kind of a tough sell.
