A kayak roof rack for two kayaks is a system of bars and straps that attaches to the roof of a vehicle and secures two kayaks in place. The kayaks are typically placed side by side on the roof, and the rack system prevents them from sliding off or tipping over while the vehicle is in motion.

Heavy and excellent quality. Received in a timely manner. The only trouble I had was with the assembly. Some of the nuts were extremely tight on the bolts and would not tighten down regardless of what I used to prevent the bolts from spinning around and around.
I may have to search in my garage for some more appropriately matched hardware. Overall. I am very pleased with the quality of the racks themselves. Very excited to use them to transport my kayaks this summer!!.
I thought this was a decent set of kayak holders–I was wrong! I saw that this product got positive reviews-not sure why. First of all, the holes do not line up on ANY of the pieces–I found myself hammering in the screws, that’s a sure fire way to strip anything useful for the future?! Also, the product gave off a disgusting odor–we were putting it together in a garage with the door open and it still was very noxious.
I should have just thrown these pieces back in the box to return, but I needed them at the time. It took a week to receive–I couldn’t wait another week or two to find something else. Never again. would def not recommend this product!!!.

These racks are very sturdy and serve us well, even transporting a tandem kayak without problems. Two reasons why they didn’t get 5 stars: the plastic cap on one of the open ends of the steel tubes popped off when I moved the kayak.
Also, the universal attachment bracket is easy enough, but it would be nice to have the T-shaped attachment anchors for grooved cross bars as an option (without having to buy an additional kit).
I bought 2 Ascend fs12t kayaks from the Bass Pro in Ft. Myers. To get them home 50+ miles to Bradenton, I had to buy some kind of rack, so I bought 2 pairs of the Malone J-Pro Auto Kayak Carriers. I installed both in the parking lot at Bass Pro, mounted the kayaks, and made it home safely.
At first, I wasn’t too sure about them, however, I’ve used them several times since then and they’ve done a fantastic job.
I’m getting older and decided to pick up kayaking as a hobby. I wasn’t sure what kind of rack system to get so I asked a friend who suggested the Malone brand. I’m very happy he did! This rack came with attachments that went right on my car’s existing bars and was very easy, took less than 5 minutes the first try.
I’ve used this rack over 10 times in the last month and can’t believe how secure and stable my kayak sits while i’m going to the beach. No difference whether i’m on the highway or not. I imagine I’ll be buying another one soon for my grandson.
The Thule Hull-A-Port 834 features two protective cylindrical cushioned pads on the top tubes, bow and stern tie-down ropes and straps with a redesigned buckle protector. The Hull-a-Port 834 fits Thule square, Aero, Yakima round as well as most factory installed cross bars.
The 834 is easy to transfer from vehicle to vehicle with its universal mounting system. Sold as a pair which will accommodate 1 kayak.
The rack and mounts are all high quality and perform as expected. The bolts were too short for an older Thule square/rectangular bar. I tried several hardware stores looking for longer carriage bolts in this metric size but to no avail.
Converted everything to 0. 25” hardware. Worked but lost the value of the hardware that came with the rack. Thule, if the bolts were just a few cm longer, they would truly be universal among your bars.
I have the current design and an older version. The old design was stable and worked well. How did they ruin it. Let me count the ways. The old version had to parallel bars for clamping under the roof rack.
The new one has one piece that runs on a diagonal. They saved a piece of metal and sacrificed stability. The bolts on the old one had allen wrench or screw heads and a butterfly bolt on for tightening.
If necessary, you could use the allen wrench or a screw driver to hold the bolt while tightening. The new design has smooth heads on the top. All you can do is turn the butterfly bolt while the screw spins.
Useless. Lastly the older “J” had a loop at the bottom instead of being open ended. It was a good place to secure straps. Now I have to attach to the roof rack itself. Would I purchase again. No. Got any of the old ones in stock.
I have round bars on top of my truck bed cap so the bracket does not tighten down good enough to keep the whole thing from rotating on the bar. They would work great with a square or oval bar but not a round one.
Also I believe the newer models now have a strap keeper on top to keep the strap in place so it doesn’t slide down to the pad. Seems to right itself at the top of the tube once things get tight. Kayaks were very solid once I got it all snugged down and I didn’t worry about them flying off.
Looking for a great alternative to full feature kayak saddles here is a complete carrier that includes everything needed to transport a kayak safely and securely. Maximum kayak protection with integrated rubber pad.
Virtually eliminate hot spots with large contact surface area. Fits Thule standard and Xsporter load bars, Yakima, and most factory installed cross bars. Installs in minutes. Complete carrier for one boat includes four saddles, all mounting hardware, and heavy-duty straps.
Additional safety provided by bow and stern tie downs. May require the use of Xadapt3 (80 MM bolts) on some factory applications. Please consult your local retailer for further information. This item will require the use of Xadapt3 (80 MM bolts) on our XSporter (421/422) and Rapid Aero Bars.
I have Thule aeroblade racks and was looking for a kayak rack that hauled the kayak flat rather than on its side. These were compatible but clamp on and do not use the track mounting. I load my kayak from the side and roll over these and they flex enough not to break.
The friction straps these come with are quality. Along with the grip on the pads my kayak is secure enough I don’t use the front and back lines for my typical destinations although would for a longer trip.
My Top Deck came with a defective bolt such that I could not tighten the attachment. When I called REI to ask for a replacement they said they didn’t have single bolts, i needed to bring the whole kit in which means uninstalling it from the roof and driving back to the store.
The trule web site requires I register the product then file a complicated warranty claim, all for a. 50 cent bolt. Or I could buy a. 50 cent bolt and pay $4. 50 for postage. All WAY TOO much work for having paid 100 bucks for a product I currently can not use.
This product does what it says, but is markedly less substantial and full-featured than other similar products made by Thule. Straps do not have rubber bumpers on them to protect car top. Front and back ropes just have s-hooks and no ratchet device.
If you’re looking for something a step up from a foam blocks on top of your vehicle with some cords thrown in, this will do the job. If you’re looking for something more heirloom, upgrade to another Thule product.

I love this rack! I am a 59 woman, 5’5 and have bad knees and back. I can load my 55 lb. fishing kayak totally by myself now! Easy install on and off. low profile means I don’t have to take the rack off to get my car in the garage.
I did buy a rear window suction roller to assist in guiding the kayak. I would also recommend buying some rachet ties for the bow and stern ties as they are much faster than the ones supplied. No whistle noise while driving and kayak rides well.
I like Yakima much better than Thule. Better quality and easy install. This rack made all the difference between me going and not!.
Expensive, and does not include the locks. The locks are another $200. The included tie downs are garbage. Would habe been better value to include locks and ditch the straps. Loads my 17. 5 ft Wilderness Systems Tsunami easily as advertised, but does not roll as easily as expected.
Forget throwing your back out lifting kayaks on and off your roof rack. Instead, attach the Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier onto your Thule Crossbars and let the Hullavator Pro do the heavy lifting for you.
This carrier uses gas-assisted struts to lift and lower 40-pounds of the kayak’s weight, alleviating up to 90% of the heavy lifting required to load and unload your kayak. How exactly does this ingenious system work? Well, Thule designed the Hullavator Pro with double-extending arms that lower the kayak up to 40-inches for faster loading and unloading.
That means you can simply lower the each arm to your vehicle’s side, secure your kayak, and use the assisted lifting mechanism to easily place the kayak onto your roof. The gas-assisted struts also work in reverse, keeping you from painstakingly lowering heavy kayaks off your roof rack.
This one-boat carrier fits most kayaks with its expanding, corrosion-resistant cradles. Eight padded attachment points provide a secure fit without scratching or damaging your favorite kayak. Included with this carrier are all necessary straps for carrying and attaching one kayak.
Note that the Hullavator Pro conveniently attaches to all Thule Crossbars, except for the Aeroblade Edge, and it’s compatible with Thule’s One Key System for convenient one-key locking with Thule racks and carriers.
I’ve been a kayaker for many years and drive a taller vehicle (a Jeep Grand Cherokee). I usually went kayaking with my significant other who was very tall and could assist loading the kayaks on top of the car.
However he worked and I was a college student and wanted to go kayaking during the week with my friends and family who were mostly female. We struggled loading the kayaks on the car and in one circumstance dropped a kayak on my car hood.
This led me to search for a solution that didn’t involve taking a taller man kayaking with me. I saw these listed at REI and immediately fell in love. They are extremely expensive however they solve the problem of loading kayaks on top of tall cars.
They are extremely easy to install and very easy to use. Honestly as an engineer I appreciate the very thorough and sturdy design of them. I’ve taken my kayaks on long trips, up mountains and on highways and have never had an issue over the many years that I’ve owned them.
Every woman that’s in my life that kayaks wishes that they would buy them and I’ve noticed them becoming more popular in my area due to the fact that we have very many water sources that we can kayak in.
It makes kayaking enjoyable as a solo female and has allowed me and my friends to safely load our kayaks very quickly and without any difficulty. I couldn’t recommend this product more for anyone looking to solve this issue.
In my private life I often tell people, “These were very expensive, but honestly worth it…because now I will never need a man’s help again!”.
The Malone SeaWing/Stinger Saddle universal car rack kayak carrier with load assist module is the all-in-one package to safely and easily load and transport your kayak. Both the SeaWing and Stinger are corrosion resistant and UV protected, guaranteeing your gear will hold up for years to come.
This package deal keeps you and your kayak safe during use. The universal JAWZ mounting hardware fits round, square and factory oval cross rails.
It’s a great system and easy to install. The one improvement that I would make is to put an access notch on the bar that attaches the kayak saddle to the roof rack. If you could swing it away and swing it onto the bolt that tightens it onto the roof rack with a turn nut, you would not have to remove the bolt each time.
I really like this system. I’m a 70 year old female and can use it by myself. That was a major need for me to purchase a new carrier.
Just got this in the mail and set it up. The mounts themselves are too narrow for my fishing kayak, which is a sit on top kayak. Maybe with the right length rooftop, it might be able to sit in all the right places, but I need to return this.
Definitely would like to see this adjusted for more of a “W” bottom instead of a “V. “.
I am just getting back into paddling and now it will be for recreational fun, not serious whitewater. I bought this, got here super quick, installed easily and securely. The assist bar was well worth the money! It was also more reasonably priced here than other sites.
I am not a youngster anymore and this helps me get the 10’ kayak up on top of my car much easier than without- gives me confidence that I can go out solo still! I am just TICKLED! Just came back in from ‘practicing’ loading, securing and unloading.
Thanks for selling a great product and for being such a reputable, consumer-centric company!.
With the practical release lever on the front, the holder can be quickly set up or folded down when not in use. Tool-free mounting on the Thule Wing or ProBar thanks to the integrated mounting device.
Also compatible with the Thule SquareBar when used with a suitable (optional) adapter. The durable, soft rubber padding protects kayaks during transport, while the theft-proof construction ensures that the kayak is securely attached to the crossbars.
Locks are included. The integrated StrapCatch tensioning strap holder makes it easy to lash the kayak with tensioning straps, easy securing of the kayak with enclosed tensioning straps with buckle protection.
Folded: 46 x 20 x 11 cm, unfolded: 46 x 20 x 44 cm, 6. 8 kg.
How’s it going fellow kayak people? I currently have a 13 foot Perception kayak and have had zero problems. I would definitely recommend this for anyone that has one kayak or a set of two as you’re able to use two of these on one rack.
This is the least ugly, easy to install and secure kayak rack on the market in my opinion. It even comes with everything that you need Including additional blue straps for highway driving. I have found the additional straps are not needed-yes it’s that Secure and quite.
I have had this for over two years now. As a fellow Thule brand rack buyer, The drawback with Thule is that you have to buy the lock sets that are sold separately. I have been to multiple areas including downtown Chicago, downtown Milwaukee and other high traffic areas with other Kayakers and folks around.
I am not sure why people are stating this is not secure and maybe did not install the locks correctly however I have had zero lock issues. 10/10 recommend. .
These are easy to use and set up. The lock seems steady. However, if someone wants to steal these, they can and will. The racks are very loud at any speed regardless of folding or standing with load.
Some duck tape to the bottom holes fixed that. As awesome bonus, these came with straps and ties downs! I didn’t have to order them separately. Fix the noise and price, and its easily a five star j-cradle.
This is my 3rd kayak roof carrier that I’ve used and I really enjoy this one! Super easy to attach with my Thule wing bar evo. Collapses when not in use which is very convenient. Getting the kayaks on and off, and strapped up is a breeze.
An economical, secure choice for carrying your boat, this easy-to-use J Style kayak rack quickly mounts on most load bars with easy on/off design and padding to avoid scratches. Galvanized steel tubing.
Foam padding on upper supports. Condensed foam on lower supports. Attaches to most factory and aftermarket load bars. Easy-to-use hardware ensures that you can install or remove the carrier in minutes.
Open design at the bottom of the carrier. Tie-down cam strap attaches to the load bar for maximum stability. Soft padding protects your boat from scratches. Includes two heavy-duty tie-down cam straps and two bow/stern tie downs.
I kind of had higher expectations for this roof rack. I currently have it paired with the SportRack roof rack (SR1010). I had it shift once while driving 100km/hr on a 400-series highway. It was a bit scary, and it may have been my fault for not tightening it enough.
But it gets difficult to do so as you tighten it more and more. I wish there was a way to use a wrench instead of the provided knobs. Additionally, there are grooves on the product to fit on to square bars, but it is very annoying because I have them fitted onto a SportRack roof rack but the grooves on the kayak carrier do not perfectly match the grooves on the roof rack.
You would have thought that they align together since they are the same brand.
I got these for my Thule rack (rectangular bars) to carry a 13′ kayak and its a perfect fit. The straps may need to be replaced in a few years and I use a bungee rather than the included rope for a front safety, but the important bits are the holders and mounts, and they’re great.
I bought this rack to put them on my Thule square bars and they fit perfectly. The problem is that the end plastic caps of the tubes get lose easily because they are not glued strong enough or of poor quality.
This has happened to me twice, so I returned one box, and for the second one I will be fixing it going the MacGyver way.
You’ll quickly become the favorite kayak buddy in your group with the Yakima BigStack Stacking Kayak Rack! The BigStack enables you to carry up to four boats on your roof. Alternatively, you can use that extra space for whatever gear you need for your next multi-sport adventure.
The BigStack is equipped with top-of-the-line HullGuard padding to protect your vessel during transport. Its universal built-in hardware fits nearly any shape crossbar, but was optimized for use with Yakima’s aerodynamic bars.
With the Yakima BigStack Stacking Kayak Rack, you can haul everything you need for your next adventure, plus the kitchen sink!.
This is a great rack system. I installed it on my Yakima round bar base rack and used a padded cover for the bars to protect the kayaks. It could not be any simpler to install and use. I have multiple j-hook style carriers and it takes a long time to load up multiple kayaks.
However, with the Bigstack you just put them on one after the other and then tighten the straps. One set of straps for multiple kayaks. The included straps are very long, and although I only used them to hold two kayaks, there was plenty of length to add a third kayak.
Please make sure to read the instructions, as there are a number of youtube videos that demonstrate improper use of the strap guides. With that said, I was amazed at how quickly I could load and unload my kayaks.
I was even more surprised at how well it holds them in place. Our kayaks are recreational boats, the longest being ten feet (one 10 foot Pelican sit inside and one 9. 5 foot west marine sit on top). How well this system would work with longer boats, I can’t say.
Used the Big Stack on my 2011 Suburban with the manufacturer installed oval crossbars to carry 2 pyranha burns, 1 pyranha varun, and a dragorassi mafia. The supports mounted securely onto the crossbars and the boats were stacked two on either side.
The supplied straps held the boats very securely and felt as though they wouldn’t need the bow and stern lines, but these lines were installed just for safety sake. Other reviewers who complained that the boats did not feel secure clearly weren’t mounting the boats correctly.
I have only used the product on one trip but the trip involved about 19 hours total of highway driving at speeds of 75 mph and I never once had to get out and check or rearrange the lines. I would definitely recommend this product.
The Yakima Jaylow can carry one boat up to 80 lbs. in the J-cradle position or two boats combined for up to 110 lbs. in the vertical, stacker position. It features heavy-duty straps and bow tie-downs that will keep everything secure.
This kayak trailer jaylow provides maximum loading and minimal fuss. It is versatile, adaptable and fits round, square, factory or aerodynamic bars. It has a minimum crossbar spreads of 24 inch or more and can be quickly adjusted with the integrated cam lever.
This car trailer jaylow comes fully assembled out of the box and is easy to install without the need for tools.
We just got into kayaking again after a long break and needed to figure out how to carry the boats on a honda element. The Jaylow was appealing because it folded flat when not in use. But it ended up being really difficult to load my boat because this rack is more for side loading, which with the height of the element means it takes two people lifting (49 lb pungo 120).
The upright supports did move quite a bit when adjusting the boat and strapping it down, which was not super reassuring. The real deal breaker was the whistling noise though. Between the two rack pieces there are 28 holes that cause an earsplitting whistling noise.
The manufacturer’s suggestion is to cover them all with tape. Ended up returning this and getting a yakima sweetroll, and I am very pleased I can now load my boat on the element by myself (5’4″ tall, 50+ yo) and there is no whistle!.
Thule’s best-selling kayak carrier has been updated to be able to carry two boats in a stacker position. In J-cradle position it still securely holds one kayak without scratching or damaging your boat.
Made from high-impact injection molded nylon with soft TPE padding. Dual position design transforms from a J-cradle for one boat to a stacker position for two boats. Integrated StrapCatch for easy strap management when loading kayak.
Universal mounting design fits all types of load bars quickly and easily. New angled edge allows your kayak to slide more easily into the J-cradle. Upright bars fold down flat when not in use. Locks to load bars with Thule’s One Key System Lock cylinders (sold separately).
Includes load straps with bow and stern tie downs for one boat. Buckle bumpers on straps prevent scratching. Imported.
The biggest flaw and complaint I have with this is that the part where the strap runs through at the top is slotted/open, so the strap does very easily fall through (as another reviewer mentioned). Seems like a flaw in design because I see no logical function for it being open like it is.
My other biggest complaint is that when the strap is up over the kayak and you go to strap it down, it’s nearly impossible to adjust the strap without getting up and pulling the kayak forward to allow the strap to move freely.
I fuss with the strap every time for easily 5 10 minutes, just to get it strapped down. On the plus side, it is very easy to fold it up and down, and while it’s down, it is pretty quiet. Most other J racks have been loud, but this one is one of the quietest ones I’ve used.
Overall, a few little design flaws. Definitely takes some effort to strap in one kayak. I have yet to figure out how to add a second kayak. (Looks like I’ll have to get on the roof of the truck to do it?) When you have your kayak strapped in, I’d suggest tying off the excess strap.
Throwing it in to the kayak, as most videos suggest, only causes the 3 5′ of excess strap to fly out while driving.
I bought one of these in May and it’s fantastic. You can load one kayak or use it like a stacker and load 2. I was using it to load two 10′ kayaks on my rav4 but I’m roughly smurf height so it is tricky to use the stacker position solo (my son is 10 and I may have accidentally dropped his kayak on him when trying to load them with another rack.
He’s still afraid to stand too close when I’m loading them so it means it’s just me). That said, I’ve loaded them both on the Hull-a-Port XT for trips over 100 miles on the highway several times and they stay put perfectly.
Now that I have two racks I can load our kayaks much faster solo. If we wanted to bring a friend with her own kayak we can use one in the cradle positron and one rack in the stacker position and bring 3 kayaks on our roof.
Expensive but really good kayak carrier. Kayak feels very secure once in place. Recently carried kayak in carrier for a long journey in very strong winds. All very secure. Big advantage in that it can be folded flat on the roof bars when not in use.
Also very quick and easy to fit and remove from roof bars.
The carrier secures the kayak on its side, consuming minimal space on the load bar. A maximum of 4 sets of kayak racks can be mounted on a full size truck. Save your space. Features: Steel design with adjustable padding for carrying strength and kayak protection Wide mouth J bar offers easier loading and unloading Quick on/off hardware ensures fast installation and removal Optimally sized J style carrier leaves roof space All surface rust-resistant coating and hardware for longer product life Includes all mounting hardware and 2 straps Accommodates kayaks up to 36″ wide and 75lbs Will fit most factory or aftermarket round, square, oval and flat crossbars.
The crossbars shown in the pictures are not included. The carrier secures the kayak on its side, consuming minimal space on the load bar. A maximum of 4 sets of kayak racks can be mounted on a full size truck.
Save your space. ~The crossbars shown in the pictures are not included. Authentic TMS products contain vacuum sealed installation hardware.
This product seems to be very heavy duty, quite strong where it needs to be. Rubber pads look durable and should wear well. I’m very happy with this purchase. However, it is more a kit of parts to manufacture kayak carriers.
Assembly was quite time consuming and difficult. Tolerances are near zero, which makes the assembled carriers much stronger but more difficult to assemble. Overall, these took a couple hours to assemble.
If you are not a competent handy-person, you will have difficulty assembling. Once assembled, these things are GREAT. Appear to be very strong and very durable. Highly recommend to those with sufficient assembly skills and patience.
The product is a good value. The “name” brand kayak carriers are almost double the price of these kayak carriers. I bought a “name” brand kayak carrier and it was MUCH easier to install and better quality as well.
However, there is nothing to a kayak carrier so there is no reason that you need to spend over $100 on a name brand. Unless, you plan on mounting the carrier to your roof rack for extended periods of time.
Overall, I recommend this product for the consumer that does not mind spending a little time and elbow grease putting the rack together. Also, I was using ratchet straps for the other carrier. The straps that come with the carriers are much easier to fasten the kayak to the rack.
So this is not Yakima or Malone quality and is a bit of a hassle to put together but for the price it has great value. I suggest a rubber mallet and punch to get the carriage bolts through the rubber pad and metal.
Line up is not always perfect so the punch and hammer helps set the carriage bolt head through the rubber pad so the nuts can be added. Metric hardware (imagine that) so if you need longer bolts to hook these to bars (I have a special homemade trailer application) you will also need nuts as the 8mm doesn’t fit 5/16″ and I could not find 8mm plastic tighten knobs.
As mentioned for the price this is a good value but expect about and hour to put the 4 together.

Great quality and very sturdy. Please note that if you purchase these for Equinox, Traverse, etc. , you will need shorter bolts for the centers. The ones that come with it are too long and will probably scratch your roof.
Easy fix with an angle grinder — take ~1″ off the length. Great price and worth a little effort.
These kayak J cradles are an awesome value for around $60. They seem relatively strong and clamped on decently well to my vehicle’s cross bars (aerodynamic wing type). I have used them several times to carry 40-50 pound kayaks.
That having been said; they are of a universal mounting design and hence don’t clamp on as securely as a Thule/Yakima j cradle on Thule/Yakima crossbars. I would recommend these crossbars to anyone who wants to transport a kayak and doesn’t want to spend cash on brand name crossbars.
Difficult to carry two kayaks on a roof top. These are excellent to do so. They are heavy duty and allow ease in getting the kayaks loaded and unloaded. The kayaks lie beside each other adding extra support with the included straps.
The Elevate Outdoor high-strength steel T-Rack style kayak carrier mounts to existing vehicle roof rack cross bars no larger than 1. 25″ wide by 13/4″ thick. The supports are rubber padded to protect kayaks from scratching during hauling and two 114 inch straps keep kayaks firmly secured in place.

I was expecting to have to pay a lot more than I did, which was a great thing for a single mom of a special needs child on a VERY tight budget. Not cheaply made and easy to install too! Definitely would buy again! Planning on buying a second kayak so I WILL be back.
well worth the price. fit the roof rack ibought from you. delivery was very fast. assembly was simple and straight forward and when completed looked as good as the NAME brand setups at alot less money.
very happy with products also fit my truck perfectly. ram dennis.
The V-Rack carrier transports a single kayak or canoe in the horizontal position on a vehicle roof. The steel support bars are wrapped in 1/4 thick foam to grip and protect the kayak. Each support section is independently placed to accommodate a variety of hull widths.
Beware! This product literally looks used! 3 out of 4 of the kayak holders have ripped foam in several places. The bag of parts was torn open and parts were laying all throughout the box. Missing 4 bolts and washers.
I will never buy this again!!! Zero quality control! Waste of $$$.
The sturdiness of the steel racks is just what I was hoping it would be. I have two 13′ heavy Predator kayaks and mounted the racks on a custom low ride trailer. The racks work great, but the foam covering ripped right off the racks the very first time I pulled the kayaks over them.
Rubber dipped coating would have been better. Wrapped them with gorilla tape. Problem solved. Brackets are made for square tube mounting, not round.

These are sturdy & somewhat easy to put together. Putting them on my 2016 Subaru Outback roof rack is a bit difficult. The V shape in clamp doesn’t quite fit the ovally shaped roof rack. Got it tightened up & then put electric tape around bottom if screw so if any slippage it wouldn’t mar my roof.
They hold well for the kayak, keep in mind if you aren’t strong in the arms you will need help to put yak on top. Also keep in mind if you put 2 up there that you don’t overload the rack eating. Mine is 150 pounds.
Also if you leave them up there for the next time be aware that they’re up there! They make a weird noise in the wind, thought my car was acting up! All in all, first time buyer of these, & would recommend.
I bought these J hooks online from a vendor I have used for years. These hooks are in high demand, and I figured since they were in stock I would try them. The materials are of a lower quality and the pieces fit together sloppily, which will lead to unnecessary wear.
They might be good for short hauls, but I would not recommend not using the on longer drives. We found some higher quality hooks at a better price.
Have only used the racks a couple of times, but so far they seem to be exactly what I needed. The parts were easy to assemble, and the units mounted securely to the roof rack crossbars. The brackets are wide enough to fit nicely around the bars, and seem to anchor securely by hand-tightening the knobs.
Measurement 17. 32 x 7. 87 x 7. 87 Kayak car top carrier is a simple low cost solution to carrying your kayak. This kayak carrier designed mounts to virtually all crossbars and load bars on the market.
The carrier secures the kayak on its side consuming minimal space on the load bar. J bar style easily supports different cargo such as skis canoes paddleboards and other outdoor gear. In addition a maximum of 4 sets of kayak racks can be mounted on a full size truck.
Good Value. I wish the assembly instructions were a little more detailed. The rubber bar protectors have already started to show wear after 3 trips. I have an odd sized Kayak and it is a little heavier than most, so that may be a factor.
The straps could have been a little longer. Over all, it held the kayak and we drove 70 mph with no worries.
Very similar to more expensive sets. Fits on most cross bars, straps fit kayak well, cushioned to avoid damage to your kayak. The rig is very stable on the top of my vehicle and doesn’t make any noises.
You will be able to transport 2 kayaks. This standard design is universal and will mount to almost any load bar / luggage rack on vehicles today. Designed to transport 1 kayak (per rack) on their side, saving space allowing room for other cargo.
The large “J” style design makes loading and unloading fast and easy. Our racks will easily fit most factory and after market square, oval, or flat cross bars. Fits crossbars that are up to 3-1/2 inch wide square or rectangle.
Fits crossbars 1-1/2 inch at least in diameter for oval. Crossbars run from the driver side of the vehicle to the passenger side. Racks will not fit on bars that run from the front of the vehicle to the back of the vehicle.
Fold down design does not need to be removed after every use. Racks are 6-1/2 inch high folded down when not in use and 17 1/2 inch tall in the extended angle position when ready for use. Heavy duty steel design has memory foam padding to protect your kayaks and provide years of trouble free service.
Rack surfaces are painted to prevent rust with an added vent holes to extend the product service life. 2 different sets of bottom mounting plates one curved and one straight (flat), depending on your need.
Improved base with lock nuts to avoid loosening. Included are the quick adjust hull tie down straps, and the bow/stern tie down ropes for added transportation safety. Racks will accept kayaks up to 3 feet wide and weighing up to 100 pounds.
After purchasing two kayaks we thought we could just put them into the back of our 2018 Sierra Denali pickup and go to the lake. However, they were just big enough that they did not sit right in the bed of the truck.
So, I looked around for ideas for mounting kayaks to our 2019 GMC Terrain and the big issue I found was that I would not be able to park in our garage due to the height. Then I found the product from RACK EM and was sold when I saw I could fold the J Hooks down.
This allowed my wife to keep parking her car in the garage. They were very easy to mount. The only real issue was trying to figure out how to tie the kayaks to the J Hooks (we’re newbies). Once I scanned YouTube I found the solution.
We’ve used them a couple of times and we couldn’t be happier.
Most of the kayaking we’ve done so far is on flat water (lakes, reservoirs) but we have our sites set on doing some lazy rivers in our area. Doing so requires either a lift back to your car by a third party (you can pay for those services) or a second car prepositioned at the take out point.
We opted for the latter and needed to buy a second kayak rack for that purpose. This rack is about half the price of our other rack, a Thule Kayak Stacker, and still provides the versatility to haul both of our recreational kayaks.
I have not used it yet but already have it on the roof of the car. As another reviewer recommended, I removed the cross bars from my SUV and installed the racks to them in the comfort of my air conditioned house.
It was a straight forward process and it looks good too. Highly recommend them as a primary or secondary rack for anyone with a couple kayaks.
These kayak racks are outstanding. They were very easy to install, all hardware was easy to recognize, and the ability to fold these racks flat when not in use is a big plus too! I highly recommend these kayak racks to anyone needing a reliable method to transport kayak using a luggage/roof rack.
For the record, I installed these j-style racks on my 2004 Grand Cherokee. However, this manufacturer includes additional hardware to fit multiple vehicle and roof rack styles.

The Grass catcher was mounted on a 2021 Gravely ZT HD 52. The mounting required 2 holes to be drilled for installation of the specific mounting bracket. The bracket and catcher are built well and have an excellent powder coat finish.
The catcher works as it should. This size is suitable for a very small mowing area. The catcher was full after 3 passes, totaling approximately 200 linear feet (approximately 800 sqft)while mowing 6 grass to 4 height.
I purchased a bagger attachment to increase the capacity. Product is excellent quality and Wirks as it should, be cognizant of its capacity limitations.
Made very well, easy to install once you decipher the instructions and watch all the available videos. Basket is a bit small for my yard. Will be purchasing the extensions. Great investment and made well.
Solid metal, good welds, and good painting. The attachment to the mower deck is easy to operate both putting on and removing. Dumping the box is easy you dont have to take it off the mower just open the rear and use a metal take.
The build of these racks seems solid, they appear to be user friendly, and I suspect if used regularly (but not frequently) and treated well, they will provide years of use. The one issue they have, which may be something to consider, is the bolts.
They do not go in easily. In fact, they were such a bear, I looked up videos to see if I was doing something wrong. The advice given didnt work. I had to use an impact wrench to get them to go through and it was a process.
So, it may have been a fluke, but be prepared for some issues with the bolts.
A roof rack for two kayaks should be able to support the weight of both kayaks, as well as the weight of any gear that is stored inside the kayaks. The rack should also be able to keep the kayaks securely in place while the vehicle is in motion.
