20 Best Joint Compound For Drywall (2023 Updated)

Have an old house which I am renovating. This includes tearing down some old walls and putting in new sheet rock; also repairing dinged up old plaster walls. We’ve been using Orgill Lightweight All Purpose Joint Compound almost exclusively to seal new joints and patch holes in the plaster.

It’s worked very well for both applications. Couldn’t be more pleased.

I purchased this joint compound to finish off my kitchen ceiling after removing some bulkheads. It is very creamy and goes on smoothly. It spreads very easily and is easy to sand after it dries. No need to mix with water it is ready to use right out of the container.

I will be purchasing more to finish the job!.

My wife and i are re painting our main hallway which has tiled paneling so using the joint compound to smooth the wall prior to apply primer and paint. Product works great, if careful not too messy. and works as expected.

I had 3 lbs. of the Wall Joint Compound that was left by the previous homeowners. It was pretty dried out so I kept adding water little by little to get the consistency I desired. Then it was time to go to work patching and texturing some drywall.

I am far from an expert at this but I think things went very well. I will be taking this with me to my next home. Great product in my experience!.

The joint compound is perfect for small repairs in the dry wall. it spreads easy and dries fast. the sanding of it to smooth it is easy. the dust is not so great but cannot be helped.

Came in box in middle of plastic circle. None of plastic actually around container. Compound can upside down with mix all over can, box and packing material. Lid was on though. I have not opened so not sure how much missing from container.

I always buy this rather than spackling, spackling is good only for tiny nail holes, anything larger is no good. This product works smooth, has a greater ‘rework’ time, never cracks. You can use for nail holes, cracks and to level out divots and uneven areas.

Durabond 90 is my go-to for repairing plaster topcoats. Because it is a setting-type compound you have a more reliability as to when it will be ready to paint. Those premix tubs rely on drying and can take days to fully cure under bad conditions.

In an old house we don’t always have ideal temperatures or humidity levels. A couple tips: make sure to sift the powder before you mix it, because a few clumps can ruin a nice smoothed surface. Also, wash up your tools in a bucket and dump it outside.

don’t wash it down the drain or it could set-up inside your pipes or septic system creating a blockage.

There were some bathroom accessories installed in my bathroom- towel racks, towel holder and toilet paper holder- that I did not want anymore. When I went to take them out they left large holes in the wall from where they were screwed in.

These were definitely bigger than just paint over holes! I was thankful to have 3M high strength large hole repair fiber reinforced sparkling compound on hand! The compound is not overly sticky or thick and easily filled the holes.

It also dried quickly and cleanly and I am excited to get those spots painted over and it will look like new! The container holds a lot of compound and I am excited to have this one hand for future diy repairs.

I have used a variety of patching materials over the years, but almost exclusively chose the bottle type of containers, thinking that was the best option around. After using the 3M Large Hold Repair, I don’t think I will ever go back to any other type of patching brand/container.

Patching four holes took less than a minute and produced perfect results. The product says it is mainly for larger patches, but I can definitely say it works great on small ones too. Although you can use your finger easily, having a flat edged patching tool does make the install much easier and more consistent.

All around a great product.

People complain about two things air bubbles well add water and mix it and problem solved The other is mold. Well wax paper on the top after use n storing it oh and the obvious never let it freeze

Currently using this in our renovation and it has not caused us any unnedded headache in any of the rooms we’ve slathered it on. We purchase quite a bit at a time and it’s always a great purchase.

I do have to say it was wetter than I prefer, so I dug down for a dryer portion. But still, a big blob literally dripped off my knife. So, I poured out the excess water and did a quick mix by hand to find it then just how I like it.

It really did start out almost like a skim-coat mix, but get the water out and you’re set for any other type of job. Nice and creamy smooth and no bubbles anywhere. very happily unlike with USG’s quite dry and probably old-stock offerings at the Home Centers.

ProForm’s dry-rate was a little faster than most and skinned-over quite securely in an hour and it didn’t crack-up nearly as much in some of my deeper patch spots. I’ll be getting the big bucket next time.

Over the decades I’ve never watered down nor thoroughly mixed my ready-made buckets and I never had any inconsistency or problem (except for USG’s stuff of the last 2-years, around me). Sorry mixing devotees, but I like full strength mud and don’t have a problem keeping the lid laid-on while I work with a wad.

Excellent product! Great consistency, dries quickly and I have been able to wet sand in order to keep down the amount of dust released. It is great for patching small holes left behind from picture hangings, but also works quite well for patching drywall.

The lid fits tightly to ensure the product does not dry out. The container is short with a wide opening, which makes it easy to carry/use as you go AND allows you to easily use the product directly from the container with plenty of room for your putty knife to fit.

Incredible value. Used for many DYI including creating a brick wall look to hide all the paint oops and it looks amazing. Also created a brick look alike back splash that I get so many compliments while saving 100’s of dollars.

I have done painting as part of my job as well as doing all my own painting. I am retired now. I have tried various spackling and joint compounds. This is one of the nicest products I have worked with.

It adheres well and is nice to work with. You can add a bit of water if it gets too thick. The nicest thing is when you go to sand it, there is minimal dust and it is easy to clean up. Once sanded, it leaves a nice finish to paint.

Other products I have tried are very dusty and dust flys and settles everywhere. It is fairly economical as well. I will be using this from now on.

I don’t like this one I prefer the regular one of this brand. This one smells too much s much for being light. The regular cost $2 dollars more but it doesn’t smell alot low oder.

This stuff in my opinion is awful. It is very dry, patchy and difficult to apply. I have used several different brands and mudded/taped ceilings, walls corners even mixed for texture and to me this is $ store quality.

I always mix it up before use and it just didn’t work for me. Would not re purchase.
