20 Best Jar Sauce For Lasagna (2023 Updated)

I am generally not one to keep, or buy, jar Italian sauce as honestly prefer to make my own but there are times it is just easier. I saw a bottle of this sauce in Fresh Market and the made in Brooklyn caught me eye.

Out of curiosity I read reviews and amazed at the love of hate of it range. Honestly it was a good sauce in my review. I wanted to give it a chance on its own so did not add anything during cooking except a little salt.

It had a nice flavor, thick yet not too chunky. Was nervous the carrots might make it too sweet but it all blended together well. Served it up with hot Italian sausages, which I did let finish in the sauce, and rigatoni.

It’s a pricey jar of sauce but you may want to a very least give it a try.

I was very surprised how delicious this sauce is. I used it to make manicotti last Friday after running shopping and wasn’t able to find the pasta sauce I always use. I loved that all I needed to do was heat it up a little bit with a tiny amount of olive oil and gently poured it over my manicotti.

No prepping. The sauce didn’t dry out and it tasted bright, fresh and clean. I felt I was at eating a real meal with this marinara. It’s an impressive sauce when you have been used to using commercial grade pasta.

I also washed the bottle to store other spice blends I make myself. Will now use this sauce for my at home Italian cooking dishes. Delicious!.

I usually make my own sauce but was always looking for a quality store-bought brand to use when I’m in a hurry. Years ago, I heard this brand advertised on the radio and decided to try it. Unfortunately most supermarkets don’t carry it, so I was excited when I went online to the Walmart site and saw that they carried it! It is the closest thing to homemade you ever tasted.

It cost a little more than supermarket brands but it comes in a very large jar and it is worth every penny!.

I’m vegetarian and my partner is a meat eater. This makes an amazing meatball dish for both of us. I like to use 1 jar of meatball domino and 75% of a jar of dolmio bolognese extra garlic and onion to make my vegetarian dish.

I love garlic and it adds such a nice kick. For my partner I use 2 jars of domino meatball and the left over of the garlic and onion. It makes such a difference!!! I like to throw some spinach, courgettes, peppers in there for some extra nutrition, the sauce hides them.

If your vegetarian try the richmond veggie meatballs they are great! Takes 30mins to do both meals, my toddler has some with us it’s great. What’s left gets portioned, in to the freezer for a quick and easy meal later on.

I wanted to try the Dolmio sauces to save the effort of cooking my own and to avoid the ready made lasagne in plastic tray (for a change). Just like it said on the jars, I browned 500g mince beef and added the tomatoes sauce.

Placed a layer of tomatoes and beef sauce in a tray, a layer of lasagne sheets and a layer of creamy sauce. Repeated two times more, then grated some cheese on top of all that. Used a whole jar of tomatoes and one of creamy sauce in the process, I wasn’t sure but I made layers about equaly thick and so used all sauces.

I was quite satisfied of how it looked and thought it wasn’t too difficult, considering my very limited cooking experience. I couldn’t remember how much it all cost so while lasagne was baking in the oven I had a look online.

Found the sauces at ASDA where I thought I bought them a while ago and the 2 star overall rating caught my attention. I started reading all the negative reviews and was loosing hope about the dinner.

We decided we were going to order pizza as our kids are extremely fussy anyway and there was no way they were going to eat my lasagne. So I took it out of the oven, we all sniffed it to get that sick smell before we put it in our mouths, but it smelled and looked perfect.

Still not convinced we split it between the four of us but only tasted a very little bit, to avoid a big mouthful of “sick”. Luckily there was none of it. It was just fine and everyone of us cleared their plate.

Now I am not saying that there is no better lasagne out there, but it surely isn’t nowhere near as bad as the reviews suggest. Just like myself, probably people would rather share their negative experiences and don’t bother to give positive feedback – even I don’t know why I made an exception this time.

So I would say never mind if I liked it or not, but if my kids enjoyed lasagne made with Dolmio tomato and creamy sauces then it can’t be that bad. In fact it tasted really nice.

Ordered online. Was expecting a pasta bake – i. e add dry pasta, jar of sauce, top up with water and bung in the oven and forget about it. This is actually just a jar of pasta sauce. You cook the pasta as usual, mix in the sauce then place in a casserole dish with cheese on top and then put it back in the oven.

Pasta bakes appeal to me as I can forget about them whilst I’m dealing with homework, bath time ect rather than being stood at the hob for 15 mins. Really not a massive drama, just not what I was after.

Usual Dolmio taste and quality wored very well with great quality Iceland miince beef. I got two big portions out of this jar and 500g of mince. Chuck in your spaghetti, a garlic batton and 💥 you have a cheap low fat meal you look forward to and want to eat.

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. We enjoyed the sauce and I like the ingredients. I gave it four out of five stars because though it has vodka in it, it was nothing like a traditional vodka sauce.

It was much more like a traditional red sauce but not as sweet. My kids really liked it because it was not watery and stuck well to the pasta. I would buy this again but with the understanding it’s not going to make a penne à la vodka dish as you would normally expect.

I wanted to know the difference between Rao’s Tomato & Basil and Marinara sauces, so I found out and will share the info here. The ingredients are the same, but the ratios are different. In this one, there is more basil, less oil, fewer calories (80 vs 100 per serving–which is significant), and the sauce is smoother (Marinara is unexpectedly SLIGHTLY ‘chunkier’).

In other words, the “Tomato” part of “Tomato Basil” seems spurious; there are no ‘chunks’ of tomatos in Tomato Basil. And both HAVE basil, Tomato Basil just has more. You can visually see this, comparing two jars.

So, they should change the name from “Tomato Basil” to “Extra Basil” in my mind, lol. And yes, you could add extra basil yourself. Also, I noticed visually that the Marinara had more onion, even though the two list them at the same place on the ingredients list.

Side-by-side, I can actually visually see the Marinara oil globs in the jar, while I don’t see any oil globs for what I’ll call now the Extra Basil version. Deliberating on whether it’s worth the extra money (it’s already extremely expensive), my partner and I are considering the extra money might be worth it just to have fewer fat calories (pay more to get less, in a way).

My partner hypothesized that they don’t need to add as much fat to get a good flavor in the Basil version, due to the extra herb. It’s logical, but I don’t know. All I know is I didn’t miss the oil in the Basil.

Tasting both blind (I’ve tried both versions in 2 days, so it’s fresh in my mind), I would have actually said the Extra Basil has more fat, just by the flavor and texture. Taste- and texture-wise, the Extra Basil version tastes to me more like a pizza sauce (I love pizza sauce).

Though you could use the Marinara as pizza sauce too. I’ve tried many bespoke pizza sauces that didn’t taste as much what I think of as ‘pizza sauce’ as the Basil. When you open the jar, it smells like ‘a good pizzeria’.

I’ve never had a pasta sauce I could just eat with a spoon, until now. I joked with a friend: “I can just skip the pasta!” Rao’s does make a pizza sauce, and I either haven’t tried it yet, or I can’t remember when I did (I think I’ve tried every pizza sauce sold here).

Rao’s pizza sauce has tweaked ingredients (adds carrots and cherry tomatos, probably for sweetness and tartness). But I’d venture to guess the biggest difference is the size of the jar, as you supposedly need less sauce to make a pizza (not in my book).

I’d have zero hesitation to use the Extra Basil version instead, especially if I were needing more than 1 jar of regular pizza sauce (and it would actually save money). While I’m at it: Cento is the budget leader in pizza sauce, Rao’s is the quality leader (in my book).

Cento, while very good for canned sauce, and while having the exact same ingredients, to my memory is less flavorful, seems ‘waterier’, and more like a straight tomato sauce. Rao’s is just something different.

I’ve also found opened Rao’s to stay good in the fridge for a long time, something you can’t do with cans. Speaking of ingredients, Rao’s uses real olive oil, and doesn’t add sugar. Actually so does Cento.

Both Marinara and ‘Extra Basil’ are incredible sauces–either is by far better than anything prefab I’ve ever had. In fact, that’s true of all Rao’s tomato sauces, although the variations are less-obvious.

For instance, I just shrugged at the ‘Vodka’ version, and its extra cost (“tasted like Rao’s”). The Arrabbiata version seems to be just “Rao’s” with red pepper flake, for heat. Although with Tomato Basil, the differences go a bit beyond the extra basil.

If you’re balking at the price, try 1 jar of either. If you want a sauce more like fresh stewed tomatos made on your stovetop, where tomatos are the star of the show, get the Marinara. If you want something SLIGHTLY ‘thicker’/smoother and a LITTLE more emphasis on spice (not heat), more like a pizza sauce or storebought pasta sauce, or you just want less fat, try the Marinara.

Can’t go wrong with either.

This is my typical to go so sauce when I don’t have time to make my own. I loved the flavor and trusted the brand and ingredients used. Yesterday I went and purchased 2 cans to use. When I opened them at home, some weird dried flaky stuff fell on my hands and all over my pasta.

When I looked closely it looked like dry worms or some type of small, dried up bugs. Dissapointed and slightly disgusted as this has never happened before. I always check my expiration dates and it looked good.

I usually trust this brand anyways. It was frustrating I had to throw away all my food. I went back to the store to report this. I initially asked if I could replace the bottles with 2 new ones instead of a refund so I went the aisle and when I grabbed a new can I noticed it also had dried up bugs on the lid and bottom.

There were at least 3 more bottles that looked the same. I checked their expiration date and it was for the year 2025 so it was odd they went bad. I decided to get a refund instead. Careful when purchasing and hopefully the sauces have all been checked and taken off the shelf.

A little discouraged after this experience to repurchase this brand. Thank you to target employees for the assistance.

I have gotten everybody in my family and my friends group to switch from their “Top Shelf” (which just means nasty and overly priced) Spaghetti sauce to !! We LOVE LOVE LOVE the incredible taste and the even more incredible and affordable price!! We usually mix a few of the flavors together and it literally makes the PERFECT TASTING SAUCE EVER!! I use 1 can of the Garlic and Onion, 2 cans of the 4 cheese, 1 can of the Meat flavor, and 1 can of the mushroom flavor.

MmmmmmMmmmMm!! I add a little garlic powder and let it simmer while I cook the noodles and garlic bread!! It smells like HEAVEN and I promise everyone will definitely come back for seconds even thirds!! Lol.

Then they start asking for your recipe because everyone thinks it’s homemade, and I just tell them it’s a secret family recipe and I can’t give it out till I kick the bucket. I hope this reaches anyone who is using any of the other sauces for your spaghetti dinners, so you can go to your nearest Walmart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Save-A-Lot, Kroger’s, Winn Dixie, and anywhere you buy groceries!!! Plus not only does it taste like you slaved away for a few days in your kitchen making your sauce, but the PRICE of this sauce is only $0.

99 per can!! The highest I’ve ever seen it was $1. 29, but that was at a tiny little off the beaten path store in the middle of nowhere!! God Bless y’all. hope y’all try the Hunts brand and I hope it also helps you save a little bit of $$.

I always in the past have liked or loved the Hunts Pausta Sauces. Not this time. There is something terribly wrong with the Meat flavor recipe. The codes are all well within the time line. There is a bitter, harsh taste to it.

and I can’t believe someone passed on this at a huge company like this and said. yeah, let’s call this one meat. It tastes like something in there has turned. Maybe the tomatoes. Like I said. it’s got a bitter aftertaste, and is not tasty at all.

Kind of a salty garlicy taste. but not in a good way. First time I have ever hated a Hunt’s Sauce flavor. and I am 68 years old.

I have 3 kids – ages 27 to 13 and have been using this sauce for about as long as I can remember to give my picky-eaters at least a few more veggies. They might not eat green beans but I can sneak some zucchini into their bellies.

I have recommended this sauce to everyone I know. I have used it for chicken parm, spaghetti and once in a crunch, I mixed it in my meatloaf. I add some of my own spices, either meatballs, sausage links, ground sausage or hamburger meat and it is amazing.

It is even great for what we call Quick Spaghetti – just poured over cooked noodles. Bring it back!.

I prefer Prego sauces, as they tend to tell you right away if there are meat or dairy ingredients right on the front. So many of Prego’s pasta sauces are suitable for vegan consumption; they don’t tend to contain the dreaded “natural flavors” ingredient that tends to be animal based in tomato based products.

This sauce is also super affordable and there are so many varieties for different dietary needs.

I absolutely love this for a base for my signature spaghetti sauce. I love the taste as it doesn’t taste so bitter and all my guests including children love it! Iv not met one person who wasn’t in love with my sauce.

Even my ragu lover friends didn’t know what I used until I told them and now they use this. Add can of spaghetti ready tomatoes, garlic, onion, and some Italian seasoning and this will wow your guests.

I always love to sauté the minced garlic with the meat and onion before adding sauce then add garlic powder and sams Italian seasoning through Walmart and it will sure to be a hit!.

It was delicious!!! Thank you for choosing me to try this sauce because I’ve officially added it to my pasta sauce short list I have in case I don’t make mine from scratch. It tasted fresh the hints of basil popped in every bite without over powering the dish.

I not only tried it as a sauce on a cauliflower crusted pizza but as the sauce for lasagna! I went out and personally purchase 2 other jars to have enough but I used it in a regular gluten free pasta lasagna, a zucchini lasagna a sweet potato lasagna.

I was feeling like a chef that day and wanted to have options for our whole family. I did though have to blend it in a blender before using though since we aren’t big fans of chunks or tomatoes in our dish but aside from that I didn’t even bother adding extra spices.

The sauce was so good on its own I may or may not have eaten some straight out of the jar more than once for, you know, tasting purposes. HA. The kids liked the sauce as well which is a big deal since they are picking with sauces we use, which is why my list for the ones we approve of is so short.

I also like looking at the ingredient list and knowing what I am feeding my family is wholesome in nutrients this passed the test. So I’d definitely recommend this tomato sauce to anyone in the market for trying it out!.

This is one of the best marinara sauce out there. We tried it due to a mistake when ordering online. Sometimes a mistake can work out for the better. Exactly what this was. Incredible taste, thick enough without be too thick.

It adheres to the pasta well. You don’t have to doctor up this marinara sauce, it’s great just the way it is. Your missing a wonderful marina sauce if you pass this by. Looking to try other products from this company.

Absolutely the best spaghetti sauce in stores. It taste 100% homemade its filled with chunks of fresh garlic that you can see. The garlic taste is perfectly even balanced with the tomato. Its definitely a sauce that the longer it simmers the more robust it is in flavor.

Don’t get me wrong a good 20 min on the stove will have you drilling, you don’t have to wait long. I also really appreciate that there is no sugar or preservatives in the sauce. The freshness is so important for a good meal.

This is the best pasta sauce ever!! It is clean, delicious, no added sugar and considered one of the best for you. I’m afraid it’s been discontinued. I’ve been using this for years. I guess my search will be on for a replacement.

This is the only sauce I buy now not only does it have a very low sugar content unlike other pasta sauces/spaghetti sauce. I love that it’s made with San marzano tomatoes, which was actually the reason I bought this in the first place.

The taste is amazing it is the best I buy two jars at a time at least to make sure I don’t run out.

Has a noticeable amount of oregano in it as per much of the Northeastern Italian American sauce. Didn’t care for that aspect. I often have to thicken other jarred sauces with a little tomato paste, but not this stuff.

Very light seasoning if any, Very mild, I bought the low salt version and it looks like crushed tomatoes coming out of the jar, instead of that thick stuff you get from other Spaghetti sauces. I would recommend this.

Ordered ten jars of sauce. They were very well packaged. First each jar was wrapped in a plastic zip lock bag and then rolled many times over in padded packing. Then all were placed in a box. The packing must have cost more that the jar of sauce itself.

One did arrive broken but stayed intact in its packing. I reached out to Jet and they immediately issued a refund for the one broken jar. Excellent company with great pricing. Will be looking to them first for my my future purchases.

This is mine and my husband’s new favorite marinara. It is light and delicious. We had it tonight with meatballs and gnocchi. Yum.

Taste is good. I bought this before, and it doesn’t stay well for long in the fridge. Also, the cap doesn’t close securely. If you turn the cap clockwise, it will close and open again, even if you press down on the cap.

That’s not good. As a result, I would not buy or recommend this item.

Sauce is fantastic, gave it 5 stars, but shame on Walmart! They have a problem and have not fixed it!! Like others, I only got 6 bottles not 12 that I paid for. Person I talked to at Walmart was no help at all.

I’m always in the market for a natural no sugar added great tasting pasta sauce. While it’s a little on the pricey side, it’s well worth the money as it is amazing. When I was simmering it, the smell was so tantalizing, I thought I was in an Italian restaurant.

(it’s definitely restaurant quality) So far I’ve only tried it with some lean ground beef but the next time around, I’m going to try it with some healthy Italian-seasoned turkey sausage or some seasoned meatballs, I think that’s going to make it even better than it was the first time (if that’s possible).

I would HIGHLY recommend this delicious sauce. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

I originally saw this item on sale and with a coupon it was cheaper than at my local market…I ordered 4 and to my dismay all came with the lid popped or sauce spilled on the side letting me know they were not safely sealed…cs promptly refunded me and I was content with just buying it at the local store…then vita cost lured me back with a coupon and I decided to chance it since my local market was now more expensive even on sale…I ordered 3 this time and held my breath as I opened each carefully wrapped item.

the lids were intact and I had no pop-ups! Yay! I now have more confidence buying it here as it’s my favorite special occasion sauce…lol.

From their Aioli’s to their incredible Truffle Marinara, I never go wrong with Stonewall Kitchen accompanying any of our meals. I will never purchase another marina sauce as long as I can get my Truffle Marinara.

I even purchase it for family gifts. It’s got such a unique and lovely taste, earthy and bright there’s really nothing like it.

I had to try this great idea for pasta sauce, so I was willing to pay the price. It arrived quickly and safely in my favorite, a glass jar instead of plastic. However, I could not taste any truffle flavor.

It really tasted like ordinary pasta sauce with a higher calorie count than most marinari sauces. It was a disappointment but one has to try something this tempting.

Honestly I have been buying this sauce for years and continue to be impressed. I started buying it because other sauces like ragu and Prego had a lot of added sugar, salt, preservatives, etc. I could not figure out why my skin would have a reaction and break out if u ate too much spaghetti, and now I know it is because of those other sauce brands.

I have no problems with skin breakouts with yo mamas. I will say that the sauce is like a clean sheet when you get it. I like that because it is so basic and clean, I can doctor it up with spices and herbs and toppings that I like.

I usually add basil, oregano, onion powder, salt, garlic powder, a bit of hot sauce, parmesan cheese, and some honey to my sauce and let it slow simmer before adding it to my pasta. I think this sauce would be difficult to eat without doctoring it up.

But I like that I can add my preferred amount of salt/honey instead of the other sauce brands that add salt/sugar in large quantities.

Flavor was nothing special. I’ve tried making low sodium sauce myself. I’ve purchased low sodium plain tomato sauce, chopped my own onions, added bell pepper, garlic powder and spent a lot of time. It was about the same as this – not too exciting and a lot more work.

Low sodium is low sodium and it will take time to make the transition. In the meantime, I’ve chopped up onions and bell pepper to add a bit more “oomph” to Yo Mama’s sauce. Bottom line: it’s about the same flavor as what I can make and it takes less time.

Adding onions and a bit of water to thin it helps. (also a tiny bit of Truvia, right before serving individual portion, and red pepper flakes if you want a bit of heat. ).

This pasta sauce is so good! I have problems with some tomato based sauces because they can oftentimes give me heartburn. This doesn’t taste like a typical pasta sauce. it tastes more like a delicious tomato and basil soup.

I love that it is organic AND that there is no sugar added to it, because you’d be surprised as to just how much sugar is hiding in a regular jar of pasta sauce. This tastes very authentic, like someone’s Italian grandma spent all day making it.

It is wonderful. I am so happy that there is no sugar or corn syrup or any other fancy names that still mean sugar. I used to make homemade, but it still needed sugar (even with organic tomatoes). It is delicious.

It is not as sweet as what I used to make, however, I don’t want the addicting and fat producing sugar nor the inflammatory making oils. It is an excellent sauce. I haven’t found better.

I bought this brand because it was half off at my local grocery store so I thought I would try it especially since it was spicy. I now buy it at least monthly. It is set apart from any other sauce that I normally buy at the grocery store.

I tried this sauce recently! I tried one flavor with some ravioli, then another flavor for spaghetti! I really loved it, on both! So, I’ll definitely be buying again next time. The only thing that sucks is that it is spendy, so when I’m on a budget unfortunately, it’s not always reasonable to spend so much on sauce.

However, when I’ve got a little more to spend, it’s definitely the way to go! You can really taste the difference in the ingredients and flavors compared to the cheaper sauces. Super yummy!.

I love that the sauce is organic, non GMO, and has a simple ingredient list that is not a mile long. I usually sautee chopped onions, garlic, jalapenos, fresh chopped basil, parsley, and cilantro. I add a splash of white wine and let that evaporate.

Only then, I add a pasta sauce and heat everything up, bringing it to a simmer. In this case, I could still taste the acidity of the tomato sauce. If one loves acidic taste, this is a perfect 5 star sauce.

If one prefers more sweeter, less acidic taste, I would go with a sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes. I personally prefer the notes of garlic and other spices in the sauce, having the tomato sauce absorb those flavors, highlighting them.

It’s harder for an acidic sauce to do all that.

Whatever tomatoes they’re putting in here sure do the job, robustly flavored and with a rich natural sweetness. This stuff could easily function as a decent tomato soup right out of the jar. For me though I could have used some more basil, maybe a stronger onion profile.

If these sound like complaints you would never make this is probably your perfect sauce.

I was hesitant but excited to try it. I don’t like Ragu Sauces, they are really sweet. Dang, it was delicious! I have to say Im impressed with Ragu Simply Traditional Sauce. I cooked Hot Hungarian Wax peppers stuffed with hot sausage in it.

My family didn’t believe me when I told them it was Ragu, I had to show them the jar. The fact there’s no sugar added and made with Olive Oil makes it taste like my Italian families homemade sauce. I’ll be buying this often the seasonings are perfectly blended but leaves room to doctor it up to your liking.

Faithful Ragu consumers probably will not enjoy it but I think Ragu will gain many more consumers by catering to both types of sauce eaters. If you haven’t tried it do so. I recommend and price is right.

Wow! Two thumbs up! Let me start by saying I am a sauce snob and prefer my homemade sauce. That being said, I was totally shocked at how good this sauce tasted! I only tried it because of the low price in comparison to the other brands I like (and there aren’t many.

) Plus, I know other picky family members have used this sauce. I was certainly surprised by the taste. There were no funny tastes that do not belong and it was actually quite flavorful. Seeing that the brands I used to purchase regularly have doubled or tripled in price, you have a new customer.

The ingredients are wholesome, there is no sugar added, the taste passes my picky tastebuds and the price is right! Plus no need to make homemade sauce in these sweltering heatwaves! My only tiny complaint is that I wish the jar was a little larger.

This is the best Marinara Sauce available. It can stand alone, but can be combined with any number of meats or vegetables. It has a richness that others do not. Im thrilled to have found a reliable source for DellAmore.
