Very good the carstrong nylon is perfect. The Sherpa lined on back and hood in a extra, the amount of insulation right for level 4 rate. Only I have to adjust the drawcord on the droptail and ready.

I work in municipality doing road maintenance, plowing, asphalt repair in a state with six months of freezing temps and random periods of subzero days. Not worried about working in the cold anymore. The pockets, zippers, hood, everything is well designed and located.

I’m 5’8 175lbs and got the large regular. It’s about 4-5 inches below my belt line. The sleeves cover my wrist just right. The shoulder seam is positioned correctly. It has a fit like it was custom made.

Love this heavier weight jacket. Living in NC we don’t get really cold weather often, but this jacket is so nice when it’s in the 30s and 40s. I was looking for something heavier than my North Face that I got from Moosejaw a couple of years ago.

This is perfect! The hood is oversized and does fall over my eyes when I have it fully on. However, you can use the strings to tighten and keep in place differently if needed. I am 48 yo, 5’4” and about 145 lbs (34DD) and I like the fit of the large regular and can wear a sweatshirt with a long sleeved shirt underneath if needed.

My north face is a medium and I can wear usually one good layer under it but that’s usually all that’s needed since it’s about a 50-60 degree jacket in my opinion. The cost goes just above my knees and the pockets are a little on the low side and I consider myself to have a little longer arms for my height.

This is the best winter jacket ever. I live in New England and am very sensitive to the cold. This jacket is amazing. I use it to walk my dog everyday in the winter, even in the snow. It’s very water-resistant and works perfectly! I’ve taken it snowshoeing and XC skiing in northern New England in single digit weather and it keeps me plenty warm with appropriate layering.

This jacket is also very flattering. It fits very well and gives me a slim appearance despite being so warm. It is form fitting enough to look good, but still allows me to layer comfortably when it is super cold.

I got this jacket used 3 years ago and bought the exact same one this year. Having to replace it was no fault of the jacket’s; I have just worn it so much that it is smelly and dirty at this point, and my puppy attacked it and ripped it in a few places.

It took me five years of New England weather to realize I needed a jacket like this! I survived a recent winter storm in this jacket, hiking and doing low activity outdoors in 15-20 degree weather. Needless to say, it worked out for me! I tried a dozen of similar jackets in an Eddie Bauer store and decided this one was the winner.

It is not too flashy, and also not the most lightweight or form-fitting but it does the job well! I read reviews about other jackets and some people have problems with the zippers. I didn’t have trouble with this one.

In fact, the double layers allow you to easily zip up and down, compared to those that you need to bend down to find the other end of the zipper. The price is also reasonable. The only heads-up is the color.

It is pretty much army green, which may or may not work for everyone’s tatste.

I bought this coat for my husband who is a trucker. He needed a coat for work mid-season and I couldn’t find anything at stores. So I took a chance online. He needed something very warm but not bulky as he often has to sweep trailer or do other lengthy activities outside in below freezing temps.

This coat definitely fit the bill. He said it’s the warmest coat he’s ever had besides his NorthFace parka. It also has pockets and storage galore. Like we kept laughing when he’d come across another pocket.

It’s seems well built. He’s only had 3 weeks but it’s definitely had a workout in that time. Soooooo, if your hesitant about buying do yourself a favor and get it. You won’t be sorry. Oh, I almost forgot I lost my receipt and emailed customer service for another for tax box.

They were on it and I got very quickly. Coat shipped next day as well. Very happy customers.

I LOVE this jacket!! On top of looking great, it is very warm and has so many pockets, I’ve lost count of how many there are!! Body fits well, but the arms run a little snug, so if you plan on layering or wearing a hoodie underneath, I would suggest going the next size up.

If just going with 1 shirt, should be okay with your “regular” size. I’m 6’1″ and 215 # and normally wear XL shirts. Jackets, I wear L and XL, depending on the maker. For this one, I ordered an XL but the body was HUGE.

There are draw strings to tighten it up but I opted to return it and go with L, and I like that better. Just note what I said about the arms and layering and you’ll LOVE this jacket too!.

Bitter cold winters here in North Idaho and this jacket keeps me toasty warm. When I purchased it last year i did notice it was very stiff but it broke in nicely and takes a beating without showing any wear.

It also washes great. Lots of pockets everywhere, in fact so many pockets you will lose things. Great looking and you’ll find your friends and coworkers are envious and asking where you bought it.

I bought this jacket for myself while it was on sale. It’s great! Super warm and cozy! The materials are smooth and comfortable, and the fit is stylish. It’ll look great with casual looks, but I think it’ll also go well for slightly dressier occasions because of the classic looking style.

The zipper pulls move effortlessly. I haven’t tried them with gloves on yet, but they’re not too fiddly without gloves, so I expect them to do well. My only complaint is the sleeves. I have very long arms and torso, and it’s very difficult to find jackets that fall at my wrist and below my hips.

My preference is for sleeves to come down on my hands a little, which makes finding a comfortable jacket even harder. I thought if I ordered a Tall, that’s the sleeves would come down onto my hands a bit, but they don’t.

They still come down right at the wrist, which is great compared to regular jackets, but I guess I was looking at the pictures for this jacket too much and expected it to land like the sleeves on the green jacket does in the pictures Eddie Bauer lists.

The torso fits great though, and the sleeves aren’t a big enough issue to me to return it, but just keep in mind that the sleeves don’t come down passed the wrists even in the tall. Otherwise I’m sorry happy with this jacket and I’m looking forward to the many tears of use I’ll get out of it!.

As other reviewers have said, this coat is SO heavy & thick! It’s just way too cumbersome. I live in Chicago, so I need a warm coat, but warmth & heaviness don’t have to go hand in hand. Another thing I hate about this coat is that the hood is enormous! Trust me, I am very picky about hoods & one thing that really bothers me is when a hood is too small.

I’ve returned coats for this reason alone, so I was looking for a hood that provided adequate coverage, but this on is just way too big. It actually comes down over my eyes when I have it up (& this is without the fur attached).

The sherpa lining inside the coat makes it too warm for most days (the same reason I had to return the Lodge Cascadian) – and I am always cold. I also think the sleeves are a tad too short & the cuffs are too loose around my wrists.

As others have said, the zipper is not smooth & does get caught on the fabric. And for some reason, the pull thing on the zipper is really big. That’s not a big deal, but it’s just another thing that bugs me.

The pockets are fleece lined, which is nice, and they are decent enough, but I still feel like they could be a bit bigger. I am 5’4, 125 lbs. , got the small & it fits well. It hits just above my knees.

I’m returning this one & will be on the hunt again for something warm but much lighter & with a normal size hood.

This really is a beautiful coat-I purchased at reduced cost (why I rated 5 stars for value). I purchased for a trip to the northern climes this winter. Wanted a longer coat than my ski jacket. I like that it wasn’t a shiny material (purchased Atlantic color) like other down coats.

I usually wear a Large, but sized up as I find EB jackets are often too narrow at the hips. The style of this coat is very slimming. I was just not a fan of the hood. Loved the look with the fur trim, but goodness it is huge no matter how I adjusted it (tab on back, pulls on side).

I guess if you were also wearing a knit pom hat it might work, but I think your noggin would melt with a hat and this insulated hood. The lining was nice, easily to pull on over sweaters or fleece. I decided to return the coat for a few reasons: 1) the hood 2) the XL reg wasn’t the best fit for me-sleeves too long, too big across back 3) I like a 2 way zipper, but found the zipper on this coat got stuck in inner flap pulling up or down 4) it’s very heavy for a down coat.

But hey. it is called the Sun Valley Arctic Down coat for a reason. I had also ordered it XL Petite thinking it might fit better and it was now half off. But, pretty sure I’ll be returning this one too for reasons noted once I receive it.

But, if you have a need for a really stylish, really warm coat, that the giant hood is manageable for you and you are better at zipping coat on and off, go for it! You’ll look great and be toasty warm! And, if you get it on sale, you’ll be even happier you ordered it.

To meet my travel needs, I bought the EB MicroTherm 2. 0 packable down jacket with hood that I can layer under my EB Windfoil Elite hooded waterproof coat (which is surprisingly warm, packable and definitely stylish).

I can layer this coat over the down jacket and fleece topper (if needed) and still have room to move.

This is an update after my second winter with this parka. Firstly, I’m now on my second one of these as I decided to try one in my normal size after sizing down on the first occasion. Being so thick the overall fit is actually more snug than you might expect so definitely consider taking your normal size, if you’ve never worn a jacket this big before it’ll look and feel a bit odd at first but you quickly get used to it.

I’ve since given my original size medium to my younger relatives (17Y/O) and he was a little unsure at first having never worn a jacket so big before but after standing at the bus stop at -5 he was completely sold and has had lots of fun trying different looks with it, his favorite is to wear a balaclava or ski-mask underneath the hood instead of a beanie, as an overall look it kind of works but I have suggested to him that wearing a ski-mask in the middle of Southampton perhaps isn’t the best idea! His friends, most of who already wear various colours and styles of TNF jacket also think this parka is completely awesome which lets be honest is what matters most.

Apart from the sizing I stand by everything else I said in my previous review, stupidly warm but without being heavy and cumbersome, fantastic hood, works well in wet and damp weather, looks the business and is so far proving to be very well made and easy to take care of, I also stand by my comments on the outside pockets being no good for keeping your hands warm, definitely invest in a decent pair of gloves.

If you are looking for a warm hugging jacket look no further, this jacket puts the puff in puffer with as massive 700 fill. Overall i am extremely happy with the jacket. There are some thing which could be better and which i was half expecting which maybe the reason why I wasn’t disappointed.

Hopefully this will help give an idea. 1: sizing – i am 174cm, 78kg and medium build. i own several north face outerwear items, i have a retro 1994 mountain jacket and a Denali fleece both in a medium which fit great.

They do not stock these in the north face stores so i tried on the model below Himalayan jacket (550 fill) and the nuptse (700 fill) and both the mediums fitted great. So I first purchased a medium – it was way too big, a little surprising because the nuptse is the same fill.

The body was ok but the arms were so long. Had to return it and buy the small which fitted much better. 2: colour – i brought the flare – which is not red, its a cross between red and orange depending on the light.

Personally to me, in the photos the material looks to have a matte almost velvet look to it but when i got it, this wasn’t the case. The material is a waterproof shell not at smooth as the goretex mountain jacket.

Almost like a shell suit material but not crinkly. Now i have a Canada Goose Expedition Parka and comparing them (note they are not in the same category of jackets). Both are down jackets but the Canada Goose has a hard shell which makes it really heavy to wear over time, this Himalayan jacket is much much lighter and puffier which is what i was after.

When zipped up it does make is slightly harder to move around as it is so big and full (think michelin man) (The C. G. Has a fill of 625 and this is 700). Some of the features The hood is amazing when using it but when you’re not it kind of gets in the way because its so big.

They could have easily modernised it by adding a zip or buttons to detach it. It has really nice internal pockets, 2 mesh ones and 2 zipped.

The best heavy duty parka ever created. This is the ultimate heavy duty parka for the coldest winter. Whether you live in a region that is wet, windy, blistering cold or all of the above, this is the perfect parka for all.

A heavy down parka but I don’t the heaviness because once I put this parka on, I feel absolutely nothing from the outside environment. This parka is very very warm and helps retain body heat very well.

The sleeves are the perfect length and the zippers are heavy duty. The Black on Black is my favorite duty to it’s easy to pair with a outfit. Be very careful layering with this parka or else you’ll easily over heat.

If gearing up for fall or winter you need to really check out this Alpine North puffer. Usually I take a size large. The cut is so good that a medium fit the bill. Allows for great mobility. The color is fantastic.

Was tiring of limited shades for the past years. Durable. Great stitch work. Easy to maintain. Makes life easier. Insulates and breathes. At the cuffs are classic thumb notches. Classic outdoor wear.

My favorite all-time jacket was a Patagonia down parka, so perhaps my hopes were a bit high, but even so. basically this jacket is not the best deal. The cons: the collar is stiff and awkward, with no soft lining like the Down With It Parka, and as a result, it jabs uncomfortably into your neck when you walk, even when unzipped.

Given the good quality of the fabric, you’d think they’d put a heavy duty zipper on this coat, but the zipper feels too slim and flimsy for the jacket, like it’s not going to last. And the rubberization on top of the zipper also makes it stiff, affecting the way the fabric hangs.

Basically it gives you a rounded bosom and a rounded belly, which is not super flattering. As another reviewer pointed out, the pockets are particularly shallow. I’ve worried that my keys will fall out of the pocket when I want to walk with my hands in my pockets, so I keep them zippered.

But I love walking with my hands in my pockets! I was also a bit disappointed with the level of warmth. It’s warm enough, but nothing special. My $60 Uniqlo jacket from a few years back is the same level of warmth, and it’s much lighter and thinner than the Patagonia.

The pros: the deep slate blue color is unique and the fabric is high quality and seems to be more waterproof than the Down With It parka. Some people don’t like the smallness of the hood, but I didn’t mind that, it’s not fashionable looking but it fits snuggly on my head keeping the wind out.

Overall, I thought maybe I was sacrificing form for function, but this jacket doesn’t really deliver on either front. Sorry Patagonia, I still loved that old jacket! Backcountry has been great with customer service, and are facilitating an exchange.

I have been wearing this to walk the dog in the evenings, light wind, ranging from +2 to -2C. The wind feels cold and I need to layer with this. I have been wearing a long sleeve shirt with a fleece over top with this to stay warm.

And i am just barely comfortable and not over heating. Not sure what it’s going to do for me when actual winter comes and its -10C. Barely keeps me warm in the rink watching the kids play hockey. The neck is useless, no insultation there, always need a neck warmer or high neck fleece with it.

Got this to replace a “cheap” Helly parka, which was soooo much warmer! First Patagonia product I’ve been disappointed in. The length is nice, and its tts, those are the positives i guess.

so many faults with this jacket. 1. when zipped up, it hits your neck or chin since theres way too little space when zipped up — did the designers forget that people have a chin? 2. there is only 1 interior pocket, and its very far up your chest and far too small.

it barely fits my cardholder, let alone most phones. 3. the exterior hand pockets happen to be the perfect size for my phone (pixel 6) to get stuck inside if it gets into a horizontal position. 4. the hand cuff design was a nice idea, but poorly executed as the down makes it look like its flaring out, and looks silly.

5. for a 700 fill jacket, you’d think it’d be light but its actually heavier than my 800 and 850 fill power jackets. the materials also feel cheap (subjective i guess).

I literally just received this in the mail today and could not wait to wear it out on a four mile walk. It was about 18 degrees outside with some pretty brisk winds, and I was very warm and toasty with just a light layer underneath.

After that first use, this is now my favorite walking and hiking coat. It has all of the features of some of my bigger and much more expensive parkas from another retailer, but without the weight and length that hampers my walking.

The pockets are incredible. there are so many of them. I have room for my cell phone, water bottle, keys, and tissues, along with my credit card in the convenient chest pocket. The sherpa lining in the hood and hand pockets is very welcome.

I cannot wait to wear this coat out in a cold rain or snow. I know it will perform well. For the record, I’m 5’7″, 155 pounds and I bought and extra large in order to give me room through the shoulders and space underneath for layering.

The fit is perfect! This coat beats competitors that are literally triple the price.

Saskatchewan January. I took hour long walks and hikes in temperatures ranging from minus 15 to minus 35 before windchill. This coat is quite wind proof and the insulation is very good. I added a thermal long sleeved shirts once the wind chill went below minus 30.

I stayed comfortable in these conditions except for my hands. My only concern is that the hood doesn’t cinch down as tightly as I would like.

They only had XXL available. An XL would of fit me better but I wanted the coat for this season. Im not an eyesore when I wear it. It’s ergonomic and functional, which is what I was looking for. Its thinner then what i expected, which makes it easier to move around because its not bulky, but if its below -15C you need to have a quality under garmet.

It exceeds my expectations as a daily winter coat/dog walk hiking gear. It wouldnt hold up as survival or outdoor workwear, but in harsh conditions in an urban environment I feel unstoppable. Looks great, good pockets and features, excelent daily wear in cold conditions.

Great winter coat! Warm but light weight and fits true to size. The reflective bands at cuff are excellent especially when walking at night but they tuck away out of sight when you don’t want them. Length is perfect for warmth and comfort as well.

Fantastic for DIYers. If you don’t poor shower floors all the time, this device makes it really easy and goof proof. My first shower floor turned out perfect and works like a dream, plus I saved thousands of dollars doing it all my self.

They only support five sides of the slope, does not come with weep hole protectors, took too long to get to me, I pretty much had to stay on hold the entire time.

This was a replacement for a worn-out coat of another brand that served me well for over two decades. Tough shoes to fill, indeed. My requirements were simple – the replacement needed to be toasty warm in whatever nature throws at me, windproof and absolutely, positively waterproof.

I got all those things and a few extras with this parka! The fit and function of the parka are spot on. Excellent pockets, great storm flap over the front zipper, and not bad looking to boot. I also really appreciate the insulated and detachable hood.

I’m not personally a fan of hoods, so it’s nice to be able to zip it off. The collar has a nice fleece lining that feels good against your skin. I also appreciate the two way zipper, as sitting in a coat that comes below your waist can be like a strait jacket at times.

This solves the problem nicely. I highly, highly recommend it as an effective shield against nasty winter weather.

This coat kept me completely comfortable while working outdoors on the coldest NHL hockey game in history, the Minnesota Winter Classic at Target Field. Yet for all the superior insulating value that it offers, It’s incredibly lightweight and not at all bulky.

The hood functioned better than that on any previous coat. The soft inner collar lining is a nice touch. It has a large number of voluminous, well placed and entirely useful pockets. The fabric inside the arms is very silky, allowing one to easily slide one’s shirt sleeves in & out.

The only downside in the lower zipper pull. When pulled up on its own, it manages to always gets caught up on the inner fabric. The somewhat inconvenient solution is to always use the upper & lower zipper pulls together, which alleviates the catching issue.

Overall, well worth the cost.

I believe this is the same model (but refreshed) as my current LL Bean insulated coat that I use for skiing. Even after ten years, it is doing great. I ski about 20+ days a year with this coat. It usually keeps me warm with a long sleeve cotton t-shirt and a bib snowpant as long as the temp doesn’t dip below the mid 20s.

The video says it is now rated to -40F w/moderate activity. Maybe they’ve improved it a lot. I often find that if the temp creeps near freezing, I get too warm and there are no vents so I try to unzip the front to stay cool.

The best feature of this coat is the many pockets. The neck warmer is a godsend and is soft against the cheeks. I think they’ve removed the two pit pockets which I could never understand – maybe just a convenient handwarming location? I use them to store a water flask and camera.

If the fit is still the same, a Medium fits me perfectly. I’m 6-ft and 187lbs.

This parka truly is a beast! I’ve been wearing it non stop since mid December due to a really cold run of weather (-25C to -35C). The interior of the jacket is really smooth and glides over anything you have on.

The zipper is easy (not too low) and slides without much effort. Folks have said that the pockets are deal breakers because they’re not insulated. While I agree that this could be better, I find that I don’t really use the pockets often because I’m wearing a thick pair of gloves/mitts with the jacket which wouldn’t fit in the pockets anyway.

On the odd time that I wear thinner gloves, it’s easy to fit my hands in the pockets without issue and they help block the wind so my hands don’t get too cold. The snorkel hood design is excellent and makes the jacket have a great collar when the hood is down.

Even in these freezing temperatures, I can zip up the neck without the hood and bury my face deep inside, which covers well above my nose and ears. Having the hood up adds some serious warmth when there are cross winds.

The only downside of having the hood up is when the wind is head-on and I find that the wind funnels down the neck of the jacket. Like with any down product, you have to move to get things heated up to trap the warmth, but once you’re warm it’s hard for that heat to escape.

The buttons add great style although I haven’t had a need to use the top two because it does prevent unzipping the collar if you need to come up for air. Love this jacket. It’s sleek, stylish and really warm.

Had this jacket for a year now, and it is my absolute favourite jacket for running and cycling when it’s misty or drizzle. It is so breathable and thin it feels like you don’t even have a jacket on. It feels nice against the skin, I can wear it with a tank top or T shirt just to keep the chill off when there is some rain while being really active.

It’s very good as a windbreaker. It’s not designed to be waterproof, and that’s why I bought it, it’s That ideal balance of breathable but some water protection and wind protection. It packs down tiny into the chest pocket to fit in a belt bag or clip to the bike.

I was worried it would tear quickly, as it feels and looks tissue paper thin. But it is not fragile ! it’s survived mtb all year round, winds up shoved in the back or the truck, tramped on by kids, and it keeps going.

I sized up, I’m always a small in Patagonia and went with the medium and no regrets, it’s not baggy but has room in the shoulder. Oh and the hood is fantastic under a bike helmet, has a toggle at the back to angle the hood away from your vision.

The cuffs are baggy, which I like cause I can easily slide it up to check my garmin while moving, but that could be be a downside for some. 10/10 would recommend this jacket.

If you’re trying to have a windproof, relatively waterproof layer for the outdoors that you can bring anywhere in a pouch the size of a large avocado but with the weight of a feather, this is the jacket for you! There’s already plenty written online about this so I won’t go further; I wrote this review primarily to help those wanting sizing advice.

For context, I bought this for outdoor activity as I run and cycle and wanted a layer I could use when it got windy/a little bit chilly. I’m 5 ft 9 inches, weigh 135-140 lbs, and typically wear small in all the other Patagonia gear I own (Nano puff and better sweater).

Those fit me well without being constricting. This jacket is described as a SLIM fit and it does feel that way, unlike the other Patagonia Smalls I own. For me, all the dimensions were right EXCEPT the waist, which with my dimensions above was very tight-fitting.

It was tight fitting enough that I would say it was constricting, and I couldn’t imagine being able to, for example, run comfortably for any long distance with the jacket zipped up. As a result, I personally had to size up to a Medium.

Yes, the medium is looser and, in terms of fit, not quite as perfect of a fit as the Small when it came to the arm length and chest area. But at least now the waist is not as tight, and it isn’t loose to the point where it looks sloppy or overly oversized.

To give you an idea of the looseness, the arm length is still reasonable in that it doesn’t cover my hands or anything like that, just a little looser than the small in the arms and chest areas. However, more importantly, I can imagine now using it for active exercise.

If I were to just use this in, say an urban environment when it gets a bit chilly in the coffee shop, I think I would be ok with the small and can get away with that tight waist feeling, but for those buying this intentionally as a layer for outdoor activity, I’d recommend sizing up if you feel that’d bother you when moving.

For some additional context, when trying out the layering, I used my typical running clothes, such as a light long sleeve base layer or a t-shirt so it wasn’t as if I was putting on heavy layers underneath when trying out sizes.

I purchased this exact coat (then known as the Ridge Coat) 14 years ago in 2008 when I was a sophomore in high school. I still wear the coat. This coat has survived multiple moves, college while traveling with a winter sports team, a flood (dug it out of the mud and cleaned it up), blizzards, three kids, yard work, football games, and innumerable fishing trips.

I still wear the coat. The black is fading into a grey and there’s some fraying around the cuffs, but it’s holding strong. Barring an unforeseen catastrophe, I see no reason why I shouldn’t get another 14 years out of it.

They do run big and I bought my size but that’s ok. There’s plenty of room to add a carhartt vest or a sweater underneath. This was my first Carhartt coat and as a fourth generation blue collar customer, I can say that Carhartt has been an integral part of my family and will be for generations to come.

You won’t be disappointed with this coat.

This is a great jacket for cold to moderately cold climates. I’ll have to see how it holds up during colder days. Hard to get snowy days here in Seattle. On the other hand, I can definitely testify to its water-repellant characteristics.

It works and it works very well! I am very pleased with the quality of the Codura fabric and the overall build of the jacket. The inside right pocket is a bit large which causes my phone to fall out every time.

However, it comes with a zipper, so that solves that. The YKK zippers are great, even though the outside ones still need some breaking in (as per usual Carhartt tradition). Overall, I would recommend this jacket for its rugged look and feel and its built quality.

The price point is very reasonable.

I needed a new winter jacket. Carhartt is the only jackets get these days. I needed a warm loose fitting jacket. This is the jacket I needed. I have always liked the washed duck outer shell once it breaks in.

This has a good lining and the sleeves have quilted nylon. Real easy wearing a hoodie or a flannel shirt with this jacket. It’s sturdy and well made. Lots of pockets. Zipper is heavy duty and hopefully holds up.

I Length s right on and sizing is a little bit bigger, but good for layering and moving around. The only reason I’m not giving this coat a 5 star rating is the sleeves are oversized and way too bulky.

They are about 1 1/2 too big. The cuffs are not tight and hopefully wearing gloves will help somewhat. Hopefully I get a lot of winters out of this jacket.
